It is espresso.

Speaker 546.5s - 48s

Does Paul wonder what you're doing every morning?

Speaker 348s - 51.42s

No, he said this morning he goes shot for Charlie PERSON. I said, yep, that's it.

Speaker 552.32s - 58.22s

I think she's about hooked. Now it's going to be like $4 a jar starting next week.

Speaker 358.28s - 65.58s

I'm going to start sending in my binmo pretty soon. I'm like, hey, you know, a little something, something. No, it is caffeine morning. We've got plenty of it. We are very spring-like today. I like it, hey, you know, a little something, something. No, it is caffeine morning.

Speaker 565.8s - 70.86s

We've got plenty of it. We are very springlight today. I like it. Yeah, it feels good. Bill PERSON's taking

Speaker 370.86s - 76.88s

the day off. We've got Annie Nye in the back, running everything. Aaron Cooper PERSON, taking some time off as well.

Speaker 576.98s - 89.06s

Who's going to be behind it all? We've got that coming up for you in just a little bit. Plus a brand new benefit that Miranda Lambert PERSON has signed on to do, how you can get tickets to watch her perform and help our furry friends in need. I feel like that is such a win-win. We've got that coming up. And in case you missed it, the first time around, Megan Barker PERSON, she came by to see us in the studio. We're going to encore that performance and her interview coming up in just a little bit. It's a good morning. We've got a lot of stuff to cover. So hang out with us. One question that I posed on social media yesterday, and I would love to pose it to everybody who is watching and listening this morning.

Speaker 4140.04s - 142.94s

Who is the artist and or band

Speaker 3142.94s - 149.26s

that you have seen live the most? Oh, that's easy for me.

Speaker 5149.34s - 149.66s

Is it?

Speaker 3149.7s - 153.82s

Because I'm a ticket stub person and I keep, and I'm an only child, so I keep track of these kind of things. Okay.

Speaker 5154.06s - 158.16s

14 times Mary Chapin Carpenter, 13 times Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers ORG.

Speaker 3158.36s - 159.14s

Oh, wow.

Speaker 5159.34s - 159.56s

Yeah.

Speaker 3159.98s - 161.26s

Okay, those are some good numbers.

Speaker 5161.32s - 164.02s

And then I think 11, Steve Earl PERSON. Okay.

Speaker 3164.44s - 164.6s

Yes.

Speaker 5165.24s - 165.96s

Steve Earl PERSON. I like Yes. Steve Earl.

Speaker 3166.18s - 166.62s

I like it.

Speaker 5167.38s - 172.86s

That is not what I expected. No, when I first, I was a little nervous interviewing him for the first time because I think

Speaker 3172.86s - 190.32s

he's like super, like genius. He's genius level. Sure, sure. So like you don't want to ask stupid questions. But I want him over immediately by saying, you know, you're a fan of someone when you can tell them all the places you've seen them that don't exist anymore. And I ran through this litany of that. He just started laughing. He goes, yep, gone, gone. Close that place down. Yep.

Speaker 5190.82s - 192.26s

So it was pretty fun.

Speaker 3192.56s - 193.2s

That's amazing.

Speaker 5193.2s - 195.78s

Well, let us know if you want to join in on the conversation.

Speaker 3195.78s - 200.18s

You can find me on Instagram, any of the socials on Facebook, be Kelly Sutton PERSON.

Speaker 0200.24s - 220.8s

So who have you seen the most live? Well, we're hanging out this morning talking about entertainment headlines. The first one that came across my desk was music for mutts. I mean, both of my favorite things altogether in one. Thank you, Miranda Lambert PERSON. She's going to be doing this at the Ascend Amphitheater FAC.It's the first one that she's done.

Speaker 3221.34s - 223.7s

So we're saying first ever or inaugural.

Speaker 5224.46s - 226.14s

But not first annual. Thank you,

Speaker 3226.22s - 230.72s

because there's no such thing. So music for Muts ORG, benefit concert. It's going to raise money for

Speaker 5230.72s - 236.3s

her Mutt Nation Foundation. She founded this back in 2009 with her mom Bev PERSON. It's going to be

Speaker 3236.3s - 271.6s

happening October the 5th, Nashville's Ascend Amphitheater. Miranda is headlining the concert. Don't know who else is on the lineup just yet, but you know it's going to be a lot of her friends. You're going to be hanging out. If you want tickets information, you can find it all on her website. They go on sale this Friday. She said, I'm just going to have an adoption event, lots of other activities, make it a big old party. I hope everyone will come out and party with us. So I think there might be dogs up for adoption on site. Oh, I know. That's the risk I run when I go to anything where there are dogs up for adoption. I just want to buy one and take one home.I'd take that one.

Speaker 5271.96s - 272.6s

I'll take that one.

Speaker 3272.9s - 274.18s

You know, that's how I got my dog.

Speaker 5275.52s - 275.92s

Wicked.

Speaker 3276.16s - 279.48s

Wicked. He was a pet of the week on the TV show.

Speaker 5279.48s - 280.28s

Oh, and you just kept him?

Speaker 4280.52s - 281.2s

Yeah. Oh.

Speaker 3282.44s - 290.46s

I actually had a day where Reese PERSON came to work with me. It was not bring your daughter to work day, but it was one of those days where I didn't have a choice.

Speaker 0290.6s - 303.02s

Something was like you. They were out of school. So she was with me that day, and we always do pets of the week. It was on Tuesdays, and our friend Kenneth from the National Humane Association ORG was there, and he brought this little puppy in, and he was so cute.

Speaker 3303.42s - 310.76s

And I was holding it. And then after the segment was over, I look over, and he was so cute and I was holding it and then after the segment was over I look over and he is handing the dog to my daughter who's standing behind the camera

Speaker 0310.76s - 316.94s

and she's holding him and looking at me like mom this puppy and we had just lost our two

Speaker 4316.94s - 334.72s

so it had been a year I was like we need to just give us give ourselves some time and at that point it was so funny I should go back and see if I still have the text. So I'm texting Paul PERSON. I think I'm going to get this dog. Are you watching? Have you seen this dog?I think I'm going to bring this dog home. Rase is in love with this dog.

Speaker 5334.76s - 337.02s

And there's no responses to any of these.

Speaker 3337.2s - 337.98s

We're on our way home.

Speaker 5338.08s - 339.98s

I'm driving to Nashville Humane ORG.

Speaker 3340.5s - 345.42s

Seriously, I'm here. Okay, they're putting the dog in the car. I'm coming home with this dog.

Speaker 5345.78s - 348.24s

You are not answering me, so this dog is now ours.

Speaker 4349.12s - 350.36s

I pull in.

Speaker 5350.4s - 353.54s

I would have seen his reaction reading the entire novel.

Speaker 4353.8s - 354.28s

It's like, okay.

Speaker 3354.64s - 355.64s

There was just no response.

Speaker 5355.94s - 357.94s

So I pull in to the house.

Speaker 3358.48s - 362.2s

He opens the garage door and is standing in the garage.

Speaker 5363s - 368.32s

And I open the door, and he jumps out and runs straight to Paul PERSON.

Speaker 3368.46s - 373.46s

And Paul PERSON just looks at me and I'm like, he loves you. And he's been with us ever since.

Speaker 5374.1s - 379.12s

So, yeah, I can get myself into trouble if I go somewhere with their dogs. So when did tickets on sale again?

Speaker 3379.3s - 379.58s

Friday.

Speaker 5379.72s - 380.94s

Friday, okay. I made the tent.

Speaker 3381.02s - 391.4s

Oh, same with the Roots and Boots show. Yes, the Roots and Boots Show EVENT. That's exactly right. Okay. Okay, so Miranda has aots and Boots show. Yes, the Roots and Boots Show EVENT. That's exactly right. Okay. Okay, so Miranda has a new song out called Ranglers WORK_OF_ART, and here's what she had to say about. Take a listen.

Speaker 0391.4s - 405.26s

Y'all, my new song, Ranglers WORK_OF_ART, is about getting revenge. The very best way you know how. Burning it down. She's in it all on fire, and if there's one thing that she learned,

Speaker 3405.84s - 446.98s

rainless and forever to burn. Okay, come on in here, kerosene. Come on in here. Gum powder and lead. Burning it down. Miranda's back. She's got something that's just perfect for her brand. Burn it down. It takes a long time for Wranglers PRODUCT to burn. I wore mine. I'm not going to burn mine anytime soon. Russell Dickerson has a complete opposite of that. This is a good day to have a great day. It's a song that he just released and he said, you know, it's just about being positive and feeling all the good vibes. I mean, going into summer, that is such a perfect song. And it's very funny. You need to look at some of the things that he posts on social media

Speaker 4446.98s - 526.82s

because there are some funny pictures that are going along with this. He's actually going to hit the road with Sam PERSON Hunt on Sam's locked-up tour. For a full list of dates, if you want to get tickets to go see that, it's easy to find. It's on Russell PERSON's website. Good day to have a great day.And last but not least, if you want to go see our friend Luke Bryan out on the farm, he's doing it again, the farm tour, 15th farm tour that he has hosted. So he finds some family farms and he sets up camp and basically does a big old field party out in the middle of nowhere and the money goes to help farmers in those different local places. He's got shows that are coming up in North Carolina GPE, Shelbyville, Kentucky, Miller's Port, Ohio, Smiths, and Pennsylvania GPE. This is all going to be inSeptember. He's going to have Connor Smith, Tucker Wetmore, and the Peach Pickers ORG, which is Red Aiken's, Dallas Davidson, and Ben Hayneslip PERSON with him on the bill. So get tickets because they do go fast. I have been to one of his farm tour stops, and let me tell you, it's really, really fun. Because it's a Luke Bryan show, but in an outdoor fun setting and not as many people. And it's just a really good time. And I appreciate the fact that the money goes to help the farmers.Hang with us, everybody. We've got more still to come right here on Coffee Country ORG. And Cody FAC, I see him. He's standing outside. We're going to let him in. It's Ira Dean PERSON.He's going to be in the studio with us coming up in just a few.

Speaker 2527.6s - 531.48s

More Coffee Country and Cody is on WSM ORG.

Speaker 3532.6s - 540.24s

I love catching up with somebody that I have not seen in a minute. And in I think probably five years it's been, Ira Dean PERSON.

Speaker 6540.36s - 545.3s

It is good to see you. Where have you been? I've been hiding. I'm in the artist protection program.

Speaker 3548.7s - 553.54s

Changed my name and liked us. You've been down in Florida GPE? Yeah, I've been in Florida. I got married

Speaker 6553.54s - 561.18s

in February. Well, congratulations. Thank you for first time. Really? Ever. Okay. Yeah. I think I had

Speaker 3561.18s - 566.72s

commitment issues. I think you may have. A little bit. Well, at least you realized that before you got married.

Speaker 6566.8s - 567s

Yeah.

Speaker 3567.16s - 570.46s

That's a good, because others are on their fourth or fifth by your time now.

Speaker 6570.46s - 571.76s

My friend's on number six.

Speaker 3571.84s - 572s

Yeah.

Speaker 6572.42s - 573.4s

You know what?

Speaker 3573.7s - 575.44s

Sometimes you got to wait for the right one.

Speaker 6575.54s - 576s

I did.

Speaker 3576.24s - 577.06s

I held out.

Speaker 6577.4s - 578.82s

Oh, good for you.

Speaker 3579.32s - 582.32s

First time we met, it was trick pony days.

Speaker 5582.7s - 586.24s

I'm thinking, gosh, it might have been at the wild horse,

Speaker 3586.48s - 586.96s

maybe.

Speaker 6587.18s - 587.54s

Wow.

Speaker 3587.88s - 588.18s

I know.

Speaker 6588.18s - 589.02s

That's a long time ago.

Speaker 3589.16s - 591.72s

I mean, what years are we talking like surca?

Speaker 6591.72s - 594.12s

We're talking like 96, 7?

Speaker 3594.52s - 595.68s

I remember Rebel ORG.

Speaker 6595.96s - 597.5s

Rebel, that's 96, 97.

Speaker 3597.66s - 600.2s

After I got fired from Tanya Tucker for the third time, we put.

Speaker 6600.44s - 602.72s

How did you get fired from Tanya Tucker PERSON?

Speaker 3602.72s - 603.7s

I used to be a mess.

Speaker 6604.12s - 604.4s

Okay.

Speaker 3604.7s - 607.46s

Well, that's a lot of people on Music Row FAC, honey.

Speaker 6607.56s - 612.58s

The band leader would fire me. She hired me right back. She thought it was funny. And so I stole.

Speaker 3612.58s - 615.28s

I was going to say you really had to do something to get fired by Tanya PERSON.

Speaker 6615.28s - 617.3s

I stole the limo, I think, in L.A.

Speaker 3619.5s - 631.36s

And took it for a five-hour spin and missed my flight out of there. And I had a great time on sunset. Ira PERSON. Yeah, I showed up, and the whole band had already flown out.

Speaker 6631.76s - 637.52s

And I pull up in a limo, and she's out front waiting for a limo. I'm like, hey, what's up? She goes, aren't you supposed to be on a plane?

Speaker 4638s - 638.76s

Oh, gosh.

Speaker 3638.8s - 639.5s

That's what I hear.

Speaker 6639.64s - 640.84s

Then I got the text. You're fired.

Speaker 3641.08s - 647.86s

And she says, no, you're not. Come on. Oh, my gosh. Okay. Well, we should have Tanya PERSON call in and tell the story.

Speaker 6648.44s - 650.2s

Tanya PERSON, you tell him I'm not fired.

Speaker 3650.24s - 650.86s

That's right.

Speaker 6651.14s - 653.3s

So that's when things started.

Speaker 3653.54s - 656.04s

How did you meet Heidi and Keith PERSON? How did that all come together?

Speaker 6656.4s - 659.6s

Galee PERSON, that's so long ago. Keith was playing for Joe Diffie PERSON at the time.

Speaker 3659.74s - 660.98s

He was Joe Diffy's PERSON bass player.

Speaker 4661.08s - 662.82s

I was Tanya Tucker's PERSON bass player. Yeah.

Speaker 6663.22s - 675.76s

And he came to me at Jamber in the Hills ORG. And I used to dress like Huggy Bear PERSON back in the day for y'all that don't know. And he's like, man, we need to form a group. I got this idea. And he was real cowboy looking.

Speaker 0676.06s - 677.78s

I'm dressed like this and you're like that.

Speaker 4677.96s - 679.12s

We find a chick singer.

Speaker 0679.56s - 681.94s

And I was like, this sounds like the village people to me.

Speaker 6682.02s - 685.14s

All he needs like a telephone repairman and an Indian.

Speaker 4685.38s - 685.74s

Perfect.

Speaker 6685.94s - 686.16s

Yeah.

Speaker 4686.38s - 693.34s

And I was like, nah, it ain't my bag. And then I got fired from Tanya PERSON. Again. Yeah. And I was like, hey, you still want to do this thing?

Speaker 6693.72s - 693.98s

Yeah.

Speaker 4694.02s - 702.52s

He's like, yeah. So then Heidi PERSON was, I actually knew Heidi from her ex-boyfriend at the time who was signed on curb and I used to play gigs with him.

Speaker 6703.26s - 714.36s

And then I guess Keith PERSON's ex-wife, at the time she wasn't an ex, they had a girl night and Heidi PERSON was at the party and played a demo and yada, yada, yada. The rest is history.

Speaker 3714.9s - 721.6s

I love how big dysfunctional families get together. This is awesome. That's the country music family in a nutshell.

Speaker 6721.6s - 726.94s

Oh, yeah. So-and-so's friends, ex-wife's cousin was playing. Yeah. Oh, my gosh.

Speaker 3727.08s - 730.24s

The mailman dropped off a demo. And I thought it sounded good.

Speaker 6730.24s - 732.08s

I was like, who's this chick? Yeah.

Speaker 3732.7s - 741.58s

But you've always been writing songs. You've always had a hand in music. We were just talking off camera. You really started loving music. How old were you when you fell?

Speaker 6741.58s - 743.08s

I was playing clubs when I was 12.

Speaker 3743.66s - 744.44s

Were you really?

Speaker 6750.96s - 794.2s

My dad, there was a talent contest at a bar. My mom and dad were divorced. And my dad came over in the middle of night and said, my mom's name was Gene. Gene, I got to take Ira PERSON for a little bit. She's like, where? There's a talent contest up at the bar. So I went up there and played it, and I won, and then I ended up getting a gig. And then I played music with my brother. My brother was actually the talented one. I just made people laugh. He was like, I wanted to grow up to be like my brother. He was amazing. And my mom said, as long as it didn't affect my schoolwork, so I was underage. So she had to walk me in the club, and I would do my homework at the table in between on breaks. And I was failing out like crazy until I realized I could invite my teachers to the bars and then get them hammered. And then that's what happened.I graduated a year early.

Speaker 4795.04s - 797.42s

I graduated as a junior and went on the road.

Speaker 6797.92s - 802.18s

Came back and did the cap and gown thing a year later.

Speaker 4802.64s - 803.86s

You grew up in Raleigh GPE, right?

Speaker 6804.02s - 805.14s

I grew up in Raleigh GPE. I was born in Raleigh, right? I grew up in Raleigh.

Speaker 4805.14s - 806.58s

I was born in Raleigh GPE.

Speaker 5806.64s - 808.98s

My dad got a job transfer up into Minneapolis GPE.

Speaker 3809.2s - 842.76s

Oh, wow. So I went to high school with all the Prince and the Revolution ORG's little brothers and sisters. Oh, wow. And so Des Dickerson, who was Prince's guitar player, had a 71 purple Cadillac PRODUCT, and he'd pull up, and they'd all be in the garb, the ruffled shirts of the whole bit, and they'd pick up their little brothers and sisters at our high school. And matter of fact, Des Dickerson PERSON lived on the same street as I did, and they would practice in the basement. And there was an old song called 777-931. That was Des his phone number. He had to change his phone number after that song came out. And my phone number, I can remember this. This is crazy. It was 7-7-5-783.

Speaker 6843.06s - 845.66s

But we'd walk down the street. I did a show with

Speaker 0845.66s - 850.96s

Des Dickerson, like a charity thing with Darius Rucker. And I was like, man, there was a guy in a

Speaker 6850.96s - 861.88s

purple Cadillac. And he's like, what high school? I said, North St. Paul GPE. And he's like, that's where I went. I was picking up my little sister. And I was like, man, y'all used to practice at this house. And he's like, yeah, that was my house. 7-7-933-11.

Speaker 4862.16s - 865.98s

Oh, gosh. That is too funny. Yeah. So, yeah.

Speaker 6866.18s - 876.58s

Then I went to college in Southern Illinois GPE, and I got thrown out of there. I was a jazz performance major. Went back to North Carolina GPE. I was a maintenance man, got electrocuted, and then I was like, okay, I moved in Nashville GPE.

Speaker 3877.3s - 881s

You got electrocuted? Yeah. Have you written a book yet?

Speaker 6881.08s - 881.32s

Nope.

Speaker 3881.58s - 882.08s

All right.

Speaker 6882.2s - 886.64s

That needs to happen. I can't remember much anymore because I got fried.

Speaker 3888.06s - 889.38s

Was it like serious?

Speaker 6889.58s - 900.3s

Serious like. Okay. It was almost drowned. I was working on a waterline underneath the hotel, Elizabethan Inn Hotel ORG. I don't even know if it's still standing. It's outside of Nagshead, North Carolina GPE.

Speaker 0900.42s - 901.76s

It's Amanda, North Carolina GPE on the beach.

Speaker 6902.64s - 928.56s

There was a water leak underneath. They had some little houses around there and I had to, my boss said, crawl under there and see what's wrong with the water lake. I went under there and it was full of water. And so I'm likeup to laying on my back with just my head hanging out. And something stung me in the rear and I thought I was a water mackus and I was on the walkie toky. I said, something bit me. He goes, nothing bitch, you just go in there.Well, I didn't know. It was the power line that was in there.

Speaker 0929.1s - 935.48s

And so as soon as I hit my wrench to the metal bottom of the tub to tighten up the thing, that was the ground it out.

Speaker 6936s - 953.4s

Boom, knocked me out. I went underwater. The boss had to climb out of there, pull me out. And then I came to and he's like, you got to go to the hospital. I was like, no, just put me in a, get me to my house so I can just sleep for a little bit. And I woke up and called my brother and said, let's get out of here. I don't want to work.

Speaker 4953.64s - 960.04s

Wow. Yeah. I want to play music. And we were, me and my brother were down there playing beach music and stuff, making good money.

Speaker 6960.16s - 966.4s

So we moved to Nashville with 300 bucks. Man, I love these stories. These are fantastic stories.

Speaker 3966.66s - 967.92s

There's a songwriter named Chris Wall

Speaker 6967.92s - 976.12s

and I was just telling them the story. I was like, I don't think I'd move. I look back on my life and like $300 and just pick up and move. I would never do that now.

Speaker 4976.24s - 979.76s

Matter of fact, my first job was in this hotel. It was.

Speaker 6979.76s - 982.74s

It was a barback and a bartender at the picking parlor right around the corner.

Speaker 4983.4s - 988.82s

And then I ended up playing music at there used to be a place called The Stage ORG. I don't know if it's still there right across at the picking parlor right around the corner and then I ended up playing music at there used to be a place called the stage I don't know if it's still there

Speaker 6988.82s - 992.64s

right across from the picking parlor wow and I played out there with some of the lone star guys

Speaker 4992.64s - 999s

that is too funny these are amazing stories yeah seems like a lifetime ago it probably is

Speaker 6999s - 1006.94s

it really was well memory could probably drink by now let's jump to present day because there's a new song.

Speaker 41007.02s - 1007.92s

We're going to play the video.

Speaker 61008.12s - 1009.08s

We're going to play the song.

Speaker 31009.44s - 1011.82s

Give us the title and all the backstory behind it.

Speaker 41011.82s - 1013.08s

Missing how it used to be.

Speaker 31013.4s - 1015.88s

It's a song I wrote with a buddy mine named Dave Turnbull PERSON.

Speaker 41016.12s - 1016.72s

Love Dave.

Speaker 31016.84s - 1017.76s

I love him to death.

Speaker 61018.12s - 1020.42s

And my father passed in 07.

Speaker 31020.98s - 1028.9s

My mom passed last year at March, March 14th, I believe. And me and Dave had to write

Speaker 61028.9s - 1035s

shortly after that. And usually I write a bunch of uptempo stuff, rocking stuff. And I'll be

Speaker 31035s - 1038.96s

honestly, I wish everybody had the relationship I had with my parents because they were awesome.

Speaker 61039.16s - 1046.04s

We were great. And when my mom passed, it hit me hard. And me and Dave sat down and wrote this, you know.

Speaker 31046.18s - 1047.38s

I had to get it out.

Speaker 61047.46s - 1048.26s

I was missing her bad.

Speaker 01048.96s - 1057.94s

And it just kind of all the memories growing up of, you know, we used to, you know, go ride the bikes and had to come home when the streetlights came on.

Speaker 61058s - 1065.56s

I can still hear my mom yelling out the back door. Yeah. And just the, I grew up in a great time. It was a small town and it was awesome.

Speaker 11065.82s - 1068.34s

Right. And then it just, all those little moments came back.

Speaker 61068.42s - 1081.94s

So we wrote this and the label, I just signed a new deal and the label loved it. And they're like, would you mind if we release this on Mother's Day? And I was like, that's perfect because it's one day before my mom's birthday.

Speaker 51082.52s - 1084.06s

Oh, that's so good.

Speaker 41084.18s - 1085.14s

Is this your mom's voice? We'll hear at the beginning of the video. Yeah, my mom's in the video. She's wearing a sombrero. before my mom's birthday. Oh, that's so good. Is this your mom's voice?

Speaker 51085.24s - 1086.54s

We'll hear at the beginning of the video.

Speaker 61086.54s - 1091.94s

Yeah, my mom's in the video. She's wearing a sombrero. That was her last birthday. She passed away 10 months after that. Wow.

Speaker 51092.06s - 1096.72s

And that's my dad playing guitar in it. And that's my wife at the end.

Speaker 61096.78s - 1099.14s

And that's my daughter. That's my grandkids.

Speaker 31099.3s - 1101.32s

Oh, this is so good.

Speaker 61101.32s - 1103.68s

I know. I don't look like a grandpa. They got a hip grandpa.

Speaker 31103.82s - 1108s

Yeah, they do. Yeah, they do. Yeah, they do. They're too young to know, but they don't know how good they got it.

Speaker 21108.56s - 1113.82s

More coffee, country, and Cody FAC is on W.S. I know the radio show. Y'all read that stuff.

Speaker 61114.92s - 1115.66s

I read.

Speaker 31115.66s - 1116.6s

I don't know.

Speaker 61117.32s - 1118.94s

I can't read.

Speaker 41119.42s - 1120.3s

Yes, you can.

Speaker 61120.3s - 1120.88s

No, I can.

Speaker 41120.94s - 1121.74s

I'm dyslexic.

Speaker 31121.86s - 1122.34s

It's horrible.

Speaker 61122.44s - 1123.8s

I'd still be on the first line.

Speaker 31123.94s - 1124.98s

We can't sing or play.

Speaker 51127.52s - 1127.6s

So we balance each other out nicely.

Speaker 41133.6s - 1137.18s

It is funny. Whenever we talk about somebody who is doing music and is a songwriter or an artist and all of a sudden they're hosting something, I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa, stay in your lane.

Speaker 31137.38s - 1140.38s

Yeah. Stay in your lane. I'm looking at you, Lindsay L.

Speaker 61140.62s - 1144.26s

Because they come after our spots and I'm like, you don't see me putting out an album.

Speaker 31144.52s - 1145.72s

Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 61146.08s - 1148.06s

But maybe, maybe one day we're working on something.

Speaker 31148.06s - 1149.12s

We do have a duets project.

Speaker 61149.12s - 1150.62s

Oh, really?

Speaker 31150.88s - 1152s

Yeah, because let's dive into that.

Speaker 61152.04s - 1152.88s

Let's dive into that.

Speaker 31153.02s - 1154.46s

Okay. Because ACMs are right around the corner.

Speaker 41154.58s - 1154.8s

Sure.

Speaker 31155.06s - 1156.78s

And we won the ACM in two.

Speaker 61156.84s - 1159.78s

I got an ACM from 2003. I'm getting ancient.

Speaker 41160.36s - 1161.02s

No, you're not.

Speaker 61161.14s - 1161.68s

Yeah, I am.

Speaker 41161.68s - 1162.52s

You just hit your stride.

Speaker 61162.72s - 1164.22s

I know. I'm in my prime people.

Speaker 41164.32s - 1166.9s

Yeah, you are. But I can't read out loud.

Speaker 31167.5s - 1177.68s

And so we go, and this happened a lot. So we go the day before and you're supposed to read the cue cards. And they always write the stupidest jokes. Of course. And they're horrible. And I'd get through that. You know who did most of those jokes?

Speaker 61177.78s - 1179.32s

Who? Jerry House PERSON.

Speaker 31179.74s - 1182.08s

Jerry House PERSON was writing most of those jokes.

Speaker 61182.28s - 1183.22s

I hope he's not listening.

Speaker 51183.22s - 1184.08s

I don't think I knew that.

Speaker 61184.24s - 1185s

Oh, that's really good. Oh, yeah. House ORG used to help with all of the, especially the's not listening. I don't think I knew that. Oh, that's really good.

Speaker 51185s - 1187.9s

House ORG used to help with all of the, especially the monologues.

Speaker 31187.98s - 1190.86s

I don't know so much about the rest of the show.

Speaker 61190.98s - 1194.16s

I'm sure Jerry Houses ORG were great, but the ones they gave me were horrible.

Speaker 31194.16s - 1205.86s

Sure. And so I would choke my way through it. And then I would tell Heidi when we left, she knew after the first time, but I'd say, I'm going to tap you when you come in. I got the gist of it, and I'll just make it up.

Speaker 61206.48s - 1208.08s

And so that's what we did.

Speaker 01208.16s - 1224.68s

Every time we were on the war, I tap her when it's time to come in. And Dick Clark PERSON would get so mad. He put a red light out there to flash at me. And he goes, why can't you just read the cue cards? I said, I'm dyslexic. You didn't find him rehearsals. He had a Pittsburgh GPE accent off TV, but on TV, never knew it.

Speaker 31224.94s - 1225.78s

That's hilarious. He's like, you're going to read the cue cards tonight? I was like, yeah, I'll TV, but on TV, never knew it. That's hilarious.

Speaker 61225.9s - 1230s

He's like, you're going to read the Q cards tonight? And it's like, yeah, I'll do it. And then I just make

Speaker 31230s - 1233.82s

it up. Reba laughed. She's like, oh God, one day we're going to host this thing together.

Speaker 61234.08s - 1239.32s

She's hosting again. Solo, 17th time she's doing it. Jeez. Isn't that crazy? I love her.

Speaker 31239.32s - 1244.34s

I do too. We were talking off camera about how close you were with the cash family.

Speaker 61244.68s - 1255.68s

Yeah. With Johnny and June PERSON. How did you meet them? How did that happen? I moved here in 1990 and I was underage and I got a gig at the Belko Club in Hendersonville GPE.

Speaker 31255.86s - 1263s

For 30 bucks a night and all the beer I could drink. And it was awesome. They're closed now. I can tell on them. Statute of limitations. They can't lose their liquor license now.

Speaker 61264.26s - 1285.6s

And I got a, had a band there. Well, I did a solo thing. And then this redheaded kid about my age came in. And we put a band together and it was John Carter Cash PERSON. Really? Yeah. And he knew I was broke. As a joke, I was paying $200 a month for a couch. I was driving a Chvette PRODUCT with no floorboard in it. And in the wintertime here, it'd get freezing.

Speaker 01285.84s - 1294.08s

And it had no heat. So I'd take a milk jug and fill it up with water and put it in the microwave and stick it in my lap and drive where I needed to go. I was that broke.

Speaker 61294.2s - 1295s

I was broke as a joke.

Speaker 31295.64s - 1298.06s

And he said, man, you know,

Speaker 61298.32s - 1309.74s

he was one of, I was getting ready to beg for my job back in North Carolina GPE. And he said, you need to stick around. And I invited me over for lunch, and I never left. And then me and John and June PERSON just became tight. We were tight.

Speaker 01310.12s - 1313.84s

And me and John PERSON, I got to open up shows for John.

Speaker 41313.94s - 1317.46s

I got to sing on our one of two songs.

Speaker 61317.62s - 1331.44s

I'd sing backgrounds with the Carter family when I was 19, I think. He was, I was in the studio. I was stealing the catering from the studio. He knew me by then, this time, because I've been staying at his house.

Speaker 41332.62s - 1336.94s

And he came out, and I had a tuna fish sandwich with a crust cut off and a chicken wing.

Speaker 01337.4s - 1339.36s

And I got embarrassed because he caught me.

Speaker 61339.88s - 1345.88s

And so he started talking out of nervous energy. I said, well, when are we going to record together? When are we going to write a song or something?

Speaker 01345.96s - 1351.9s

He goes, well, how about no? And he picked me up by my arms, walk me in, and there's the Carter PERSON family at the microphone doing backgrounds.

Speaker 41352.24s - 1357.56s

And he moved Anita and June PERSON aside. And he put me in there. I was holding a sandwich and a chicken wing.

Speaker 61357.88s - 1359.7s

He said, June PERSON, show I were his parts.

Speaker 41360.2s - 1369.54s

I sang on the remake of Put It in God's Hands WORK_OF_ART and another song called Don't No, the remake of Don't Take Your Guns to Town and then a new song called Put It in God's Hands.

Speaker 61370.26s - 1370.62s

Wow.

Speaker 41371.34s - 1371.9s

That was a 91.

Speaker 61372.74s - 1373.9s

How amazing is that?

Speaker 41374.06s - 1374.9s

Yeah, it was awesome.

Speaker 61375.02s - 1375.7s

That's very cool.

Speaker 41375.7s - 1379.24s

And then he was just, he pitched my songs even when they were horrible.

Speaker 61379.56s - 1385.44s

I remember calling Alan Jackson PERSON at his house to send a song of mine over. And now looking back, that song was so bad.

Speaker 41385.76s - 1386.04s

Oh.

Speaker 61387.84s - 1394.88s

It was terrible, but I just got to spend some Christmases with them in Jamaica up in Cinnamon Hill at Johnny and June PERSON's place.

Speaker 41395.08s - 1398s

And that's where I ended up getting married. That's so cool.

Speaker 61398.06s - 1401.46s

The only place I ever saw unconditional love, those two loved each other.

Speaker 41401.56s - 1401.82s

Yeah.

Speaker 61402.14s - 1402.98s

And I need all the help.

Speaker 41403.18s - 1413.96s

I told my wife, she goes, where do you want to get married? And I said, I know our unconditional love lives. and i need all the help i get i told my wife she goes where you want to get married i said i know our unconditional love lives and we need we need we need all the help we can get let's let's let's get married there that's so cool that's amazing i know you've been through a lot

Speaker 61413.96s - 1418.3s

we've known each other for a long time there's been some ups and down there were some demons yeah

Speaker 41418.3s - 1425.26s

at what point did you say okay enough is enough i? I'm putting all of that beside.

Speaker 31425.8s - 1427.04s

It's going to the wayside.

Speaker 61427.12s - 1430.26s

I said it a hundred times. I tried. I tried and I tried.

Speaker 31430.36s - 1436.6s

I know. My dad suddenly passed November 7 of 07 on BMI night.

Speaker 61436.84s - 1468.48s

Oh, wow. And he made me go to the BMI's because I was getting an award for Gary Allen's PERSON a feeling like that. I wrote that. And I came back home. I bought him the house across the street from mine. So we'd always like that. I wrote that and I came back home. I bought him the house across the street from mine. So we'd always be close. I love that. I love that man. And I, you know, I found him, passed away the next morning. I was going to go show him my award. And I, you know, I imploded. I imploded. I was sober at the time, somewhat. And I kind of climbed in a whiskey bottle for a few years, and that's when I said enough's enough.

Speaker 41468.94s - 1472.32s

I just, I hit bottom. I didn't want to be me no more. Right.

Speaker 61472.56s - 1478.9s

Mm-hmm. Of all people that helped me, it was Eddie Montgomery PERSON that got me out of there and start

Speaker 41478.9s - 1479.22s

writing.

Speaker 01479.48s - 1481.7s

He's like, get out here to Kentucky GPE and just get away.

Speaker 61482.22s - 1492.22s

And that's kind of what started. Me and him tied one on a lot out there. And that's kind of what started. Me and him tied one on a lot out there. And then when I left his place, I just I was done. I just couldn't do it

Speaker 31492.22s - 1501.94s

no more. Yeah. You know what? The thing is, the reoccurring theme is how many people love you and how many people pour into you and how many people believe in you.

Speaker 61502.24s - 1564.36s

You have these collaborations, man. It's a humbling experience because I thought, you know, I let a lot of people down in this town when I relapsed and relapse and relapse, you know. I was on the wagon or under the wheels all my whole life. And when I got ready to make this record, when I got called by Noah Gordon PERSON to make a record, it all started from, I played, I was Gordon PERSON to make a record. It all started from, I played, I was writing with Ronnie Dunn PERSON. I played him the song I had cut with Vince Gill and John Osborne from Brother Osborne WORK_OF_ART. And he's like, why didn't you ask me to sing on this? I was like, because you're busy. And he goes, no, I want the second person second chorus. And I was like, okay, so he sang that. And then me and Gary Allen PERSON were writing, and we wrote this great song. And I was like, man, I want to cut this for my record. You want to sing it with me? He's like, yeah. And they just kept evolving. And I called Uncle Cracker PRODUCT. And he's like, yeah, and I called Gretchen Wilson PERSON.And she's like, of course. And it just kept evolving. It called Ted Nugent PERSON. I was like, I wrote this song. I'd love you to put a solo on it. Well, come down to Waco GPE.Let's do it.

Speaker 41565.12s - 1570.98s

And David Lee Murphy, who me and David have known each other since 2000. Waylon PERSON introduced me

Speaker 61570.98s - 1576.78s

and David PERSON, believe it or not. Who else is on that? I mean, there's so many people on this thing.

Speaker 41576.96s - 1582.68s

Yeah. And I'm so proud of it. Finally, I made a record that I'm proud of. It's taken me a long time.

Speaker 61582.76s - 1585.26s

You know, I've been in town since 90. Yeah.

Speaker 41587.4s - 1587.78s

It's taken a long time for me to actually,

Speaker 61588.96s - 1590.92s

we were talking about this earlier. Every place, after Trick Pony ORG broke up,

Speaker 41590.98s - 1591.92s

I'd get a record deal,

Speaker 61591.98s - 1595.3s

and then the record label would close. I was like, I'd close them down.

Speaker 41595.42s - 1595.6s

Yeah.

Speaker 61595.68s - 1605.54s

It's like, if you want to, you want to end your label, sign me. And so I told Noah PERSON that before he signed me. I was like, Noah PERSON, you know, I got a long history of closing record labels down.

Speaker 01606.24s - 1607.74s

And it's a great record.

Speaker 61607.92s - 1613.4s

And I'm in a way better place. And I just got married and I got a beautiful, beautiful supporting wife.

Speaker 31613.54s - 1618.42s

And my first time ever being married and I wish I would have met her.

Speaker 61618.54s - 1620.2s

No, she wouldn't have nothing to do with me back.

Speaker 31621.42s - 1622.28s

Timing is everything.

Speaker 61622.28s - 1623.46s

Yeah, but it's humbling.

Speaker 31623.88s - 1627.14s

It's been a humble experience making this record and making it with my friends.

Speaker 61627.58s - 1634.46s

And the support and love I've gotten out of this down, a lot of it I didn't deserve as many times I let people down.

Speaker 31634.46s - 1641.32s

But it's been years and years and years and years now that my horns haven't grown.

Speaker 61641.48s - 1642.04s

So I'm happy.

Speaker 31642.4s - 1645.86s

Oh, that's so good. So album's going to be coming out in a couple months.

Speaker 61646s - 1649.32s

How can people keep up with you? Where can they find you? What's the easiest way?

Speaker 31649.32s - 1659.58s

I'm on all the social media stuff, Instagram ORG. Look for the little blue dot because of all the things, people impersonate me. I'm like, if you're going to impersonate somebody. I know, I know, right?

Speaker 61659.58s - 1663.3s

I go after Luke Combs PERSON or somebody. I was like, why me?

Speaker 31664.42s - 1668.24s

And so I redeemed bass, I think is on Instagram ORG.

Speaker 61668.24s - 1673.3s

Yeah, I was going to say, I think you're based on Instagram. There's Iridine PERSON Facebook fan thing.

Speaker 31673.78s - 1680.82s

You can jump on there. And I'll be out writing and playing and doing shows and all that stuff.

Speaker 41680.88s - 1684.08s

I think I'm going out with Brooks and Dunn on their tour to just write with Ronnie PERSON.

Speaker 11684.28s - 1690.02s

Oh, that's fun. And then I think we're doing a not me in Brooks and Dunn PERSON, but there's a tour coming up.

Speaker 41690.38s - 1694.18s

They're trying to book me for a fall tour on this other thing. So to support the album.

Speaker 61694.52s - 1699.68s

That's so good. We're going to throw it back, though. We're going to do nothing to do around here, right?

Speaker 41699.88s - 1703.18s

Is this one? You talk about some famous friends on this one.

Speaker 61703.5s - 1707.3s

Yeah, it was Ronnie Millsap, Leroye, Montgomery Gentry PERSON.

Speaker 31707.38s - 1707.88s

Who else is on this?

Speaker 51707.92s - 1708.98s

Cole Ford PERSON's on there.

Speaker 31709.06s - 1709.62s

Jeffrey Steele PERSON?

Speaker 61709.7s - 1710.5s

Jeffrey Steele PERSON.

Speaker 31710.68s - 1719.42s

Me and Jeff PERSON wrote this. And I always had a dream of, I wanted to do a band like the Travelling Willberries ORG, but a country where we all played on stuff.

Speaker 41719.84s - 1723.08s

And this was my, it was me, Lerrae Parnell, and Ronnie Millsap PERSON.

Speaker 01723.52s - 1735.42s

I was like, okay, that's a good band so far. And then this is kind of, and then it went off the tracks. And I was like, I just started calling everybody. Let's all just make a party out of it. And so Eddie and T. Roy PERSON came in and same, you know.

Speaker 41735.84s - 1739.24s

So, you know, it's hard to believe T. Roy PERSON's gone now.

Speaker 61739.24s - 1741.98s

But at least we had this great, we had a lot of great moments,

Speaker 41742.1s - 1747.5s

but one that, you know, everybody can be part of and listen to, if I ever croak.

Speaker 61748.38s - 1751.08s

Let's talk about everything that's going down in entertainment headlines.

Speaker 31751.62s - 1754.06s

It is a marathon of bars here.

Speaker 61754.38s - 1759.1s

Now, if you are keeping track at home, and I don't know that you are, but we have currently

Speaker 31759.1s - 1764.56s

Old Red, that's Blake Shelton, Whiskey Row, that's Dirk's Bentley, Luke's 32 Bridgebar ORG,

Speaker 61764.72s - 1766.88s

that is Luke Brian PERSON.

Speaker 31767.2s - 1772.9s

We are about to have Luke Combs, who will be opening category 10.

Speaker 41773.1s - 1780.12s

I think that's happening later this year. Who else do we have? We have AJ's Good Time Bar, so it's Alan Jackson PERSON.

Speaker 51780.28s - 1783.24s

He's still got his place there. Did you get Redneck Riviera ORG?

Speaker 31783.32s - 1785.48s

Redneck Riviera is in there, John Rich.

Speaker 51785.72s - 1796.32s

Yeah. We have Casarosa PERSON. You said Chiefs ORG? Chiefs ORG. Yes. Casa Rosa is Miranda.Chiefs is Eric Church PERSON. Am I missing? It's crazy. You got Garth PERSON, right?

Speaker 31796.66s - 1804.28s

Oh, Garth PERSON. Oh, please don't tell you. I'm sorry, sorry, sorry. Garth PERSON is there. And then we had FGL house.

Speaker 51804.46s - 1804.64s

Right.

Speaker 31807.22s - 1807.48s

But now we're down. Right. Because we had FGL.

Speaker 51825.28s - 1827.08s

We had FGL. We had no FGL. We don't have no FGL. We don't have no FGL house. It actually closed randomly last week, which I didn't even know, was happening. But now the new Scuttle Butt is Lainey Wilson might be taking over what was formerly known as FGL House. It's located on 3rd Avenue. It was opened back in 2017.

Speaker 31827.32s - 1834.04s

I do remember it was kind of one of the first outside of, you know, what was the major bars.

Speaker 01834.16s - 1835.74s

It was one of the first ones, FGL House ORG.

Speaker 41836.24s - 1837.6s

2017, it opened.

Speaker 01837.94s - 1846.14s

It has closed. And now people are saying that Lainey Wilson PERSON will be in talks with T.C. Group, T.C. Restaurant Group

Speaker 41846.14s - 1848.62s

to have it bear her name.

Speaker 31848.78s - 1869.6s

If that happens, she'll be the second female to have a freestanding establishment. Third, overall, if you count Tanya Tucker, because she's doing a pop-up bar that's inside Nudis called Tanya Tucker's Tequila Cantina ORG. So, and I've been watching people online, they said, you know, what about Tootsies ORG? And I'm like, well, Tootseys ORG is actually owned by a man. Steve PERSON.

Speaker 41869.76s - 1878.34s

Yes. It's not owned by Tootsy ORG. Layla's ORG, maybe, which I don't know if Layla's is actually owned by a female or if it's again one of those.

Speaker 31879s - 1895.8s

But yeah, it'll be very interesting to see if that happens. Morgan Wallin, on the other hand, does have an opening date already for his bar. That one is going to be called this bar. Not to be confused with that bar or the other bar, which honestly, if that doesn't happen, it's such a missed opportunity.

Speaker 41896.34s - 1898.8s

It's going to be opening 4th Avenue

Speaker 31898.8s - 1909.48s

just behind the Ryman ORG. So if you walk the alleyway in between the Ryman and the honky tonks and you come to the end of the alleyway at 4th Avenue FAC, that corner, that's where he's

Speaker 51909.48s - 1913.26s

going to be. Where there used to be like eight parking spaces. Right. It's not a big,

Speaker 31913.38s - 1923.16s

you can go high, but it's not, yes, exactly. Going to be a tall and skinny. And not to be out done, Old Dominion ORG has their place opening as well. That's coming up later. They shared some

Speaker 41923.16s - 1939.04s

pictures. Still looks like it's going to be a while because it's framed. But it's ODI ORG's O-D-I-E-S. So got a lot of bars to hang out in if you're coming to Nashville GPE. Stay with us. We've got more. We'll run down the list of who's playing at the Grand Alopery tonight when we come back on Coffee Country and Cody FAC.

Speaker 21939.96s - 1947.18s

4-25-4400. Thank you for hanging out with this this morning.

Speaker 31947.34s - 1961s

Again, thank you to Megan Barker PERSON. We encoreed her in studio with this. Our friend Ira Dean PERSON stopped by. Love seeing him, new music, all the good things happening for him. And I'll be catching up with him down in Texas for the ACM ORG.

Speaker 51961.2s - 1964.7s

Boy, he can, he's got stories to tell, and he can tell a story.

Speaker 31964.84s - 1985.78s

I love hearing his stories. He he's got stories to tell and he can tell a story. I love hearing his stories. He's got amazing stories to tell. If you're going to be hanging out with us tonight at the Grand Ole Opry FAC, we got a lineup for you that's pretty spectacular. Writers in the Sky, Frank Ray, Craig Morgan PERSON's going to be there, Charlie McCoy, Ashley McBride, Henry Cho PERSON, and Lady A.And we will see you back here tomorrow morning. Have a good one, everybody. Good. Thank you back here tomorrow morning. Have a good one, everybody. Good.
