Speaker 5122.78s - 128.68s

You're listening to Fox Sports Radio ORG. Here we go, hour two and a Friday.

Speaker 3129.08s - 184.28s

Draft is done, at least the first round. Tonight starts at four our time. I think it's seven Detroit GPE time. It's the herd wherever you may be, and however you may be listening. Thanks for Megynast, party your day.So I defended, to some degree, Michael Pennix to Atlanta ORG and Buffalo moving back. Again, there's certain rules in this draft. I'm a big believer and move back if you can unless, you know, Arizona has a receiver that's transcendent. Chicagogets a quarterback who I think is transcendent. I think a lot of teams, I think the Chargers tried to move back and instead said, we'll take Joe Alt PERSON, best tackle on the board. I like Harbaugh's talk that we needed weapons. We look at offensive linemen as weapons, which I thought was smart. But overall, I thought most teams got it right. Little questions about the tackle Cincinnati got with eight starts. But, you know, they're probably saying job number one is to keep Joe Burrow PERSON healthy, but he's a developmental player. Didn't love that. Other than that, I'm okay with most of it.

Speaker 7184.28s - 192.98s

Was this a blip with half the round going offensive players to start just because it's a weaker defensive draft? Or do you see this as like a legit trend going forward?

Speaker 3193.06s - 247.1s

Generally, you get to about 17, 18th pick and you run out of really elite players. I thought like Jared Verst PERSON to me was about the last, like really, really special player. Now, they'll be special players everywhere. But, you know, a lot of GMs I've talked to. You get to about 18, 19, and then you find somebody with a hole. Like, they're a good route runner but lacks speed.Or they've got the speed. They're not great route runners. Or they've had injuries before. Jared Verst PERSON to me feels like he could walk in as a power rush or be a really good player, opposite Young, with Kobe Turner PERSON on the inside, let it loose. He could be a really nice player. But you get around 18 or 19, and that's always what execs have told me. Then you kind of run out of first-round talent. End of that first. That's why I defended Buffalo ORG. End of the first can be Death Valley GPE.You're getting a second-round player and paying a first-round price. Didn't love the Niners ORG receiver pick. It's fine. Receivers hard. Kansas City and San Francisco GPE have missed on a lot of receivers, and those are good GMs.

Speaker 7247.1s - 259.26s

By the way, C.J. Stroud was doing a live stream, and he, like, almost fell into tears that the Niners took Pearsall PERSON because he wanted him. I guess he worked out with him, watched tape, but he loved him as a receiver. So it's just not poo-poo the pick too much.

Speaker 3259.26s - 357.04s

All right. So the Jets, I said this earlier last hour. This was a grown-up move. Olu Foshanu, the Penn State ORG tackle that didn't allow a sack. So the number one priority for the New York Jets over the next nine months, which is today, April 26th until January 5th, nine months basically,is to keep Aaron Rogers upright and healthy. Brock Bowers PERSON would not ensure that. A wide receiver would not ensure that. A wide receiver would not ensure that. Old quarterbacks need better offensive lines. Stafford went to the Rams with Whitworth, Super Bowl EVENT. Kirk Cousins chooses Atlanta ORG.Smart call. Brady went to the Buccaneers ORG who had excellent interior blockers. But when Aaron Rogers went to the Jets and Russell Wilson went to Denver with battle lines did not work out. So to me, you've got to make sure Aaron is upright. And old quarterbacks, I think, need better offensive line. There's a reason old people move to gated communities. Safety, right? And I think that tight end for Penn State is he's the gate at Del Bocca Vista of the Jets ORG. Old quarterbacks need to be upright and protected and not be thinking about what's coming from my backside. And the other thing is Aaron Rogers and Tom Brady PERSON have never loved young receivers. They don't have the patience for it. They want to win now. You already have Garrett Wilson PERSON. There's no reason to go get another wide receiver, a young guy. If you can have them on the depth charters, your second, third, or fourth, fine. There's tight ends all over this draft, but I like to pick. Here's Robert Sala PERSON after getting an O-Linman, not a star

Speaker 12357.04s - 385.38s

tight-ender receiver. You guys know me by now. O-line, D-line, the more the merrier. You can never have enough, you know, from an O-line perspective to be able to protect the quarterback, keep him upright, allow him to go through progression so he can get it to our playmakers, and we do feel like we've got a bevy of them getting and improving our offensive line and free agency and adding to the depth in the future of the offensive line was a big part of the discussion.

Speaker 3385.76s - 419.38s

All right, somebody that was in 10 of these war rooms of the Arizona Cardinal ORG, probably more when he was scouting. Steve Khyme, my buddy, former NFL GM for the Arizona Cardinals from 2013 to 2022, Patrick Peterson, Honey Badger, Budapaker, Kyler Murray, Callais Campbell PERSON. So let's start with panics. I said earlier,I'm never going to bag on you for drafting another shooter in the NBA or being quarterback heavy in the NFL ORG. People are sort of outraged by it, and I'm like, Kirk PERSON's coming off a surgery.

Speaker 14419.56s - 433.46s

Right. Did it bother you? Not at all. I actually love the pick. Again, like you just said it, Colin PERSON, 35-year-old quarterback coming off in Achilles. And to me, Michael Pennix Jr. PERSON was the best natural pure passer in this draft.

Speaker 3433.46s - 434.62s

You told me that months ago.

Speaker 14434.72s - 447.54s

Smooth stroke, tremendous anticipation, great ball placement. I thought, again, you can talk about the injuries all you want, which, again, is forecasting. I can't forecast all those injuries. But I can tell you right now, from a pure passing standpoint, the guy is exceptional.

Speaker 3449.2s - 453.28s

What about the money? People say, you know, I said my bigger issue is Dak Prescott PERSON getting

Speaker 14453.28s - 460.06s

$380 million, not Kirk getting $180, right? It's a heavily front-loaded contract. Does that

Speaker 3460.06s - 471.64s

mean probably, listen, after a year, I would say year one is Kirk. But what if at Thanksgiving, Kirk goes down, has a bad stretch? Would you go with Pennix PERSON? Absolutely. I mean, look at the money

Speaker 14471.64s - 480.14s

that Denver is eaten with Russell Wilson PERSON. I mean, there's business decisions you have to make. And again, there's no better problem to have than a young quarterback being successful.

Speaker 3480.96s - 497.46s

Yeah. So now, J.J. McCarthy PERSON, I didn't love him. I think he'll work in Minnesota ORG. The draft illustrated that there wasn't this wild scramble to move up, even Minnesota ORG moved up. There were a lot of smoke screens in this draft.

Speaker 14497.56s - 500.08s

Yeah. Harbaugh, best quarterback, got to go number one.

Speaker 3500.16s - 509s

That's just Jim PERSON wanting to create urgency so he can move down. In the end, didn't the draft tell us that more people like Pennix than J.J. McCarthy PERSON?

Speaker 14509.26s - 549.18s

I don't think there's any question. I mean, to me, it just showed what the real market was. And I think that that's the thing that we do as the media. We create some of these thought processes when in reality you watch the tape, and the tape tells you what a player is. And to me, again, just based on instincts and the feel for the game, Michael Pennix, Jr. PERSON,as far as the pure passing skills, was exceptional and really fits in what the NFL ORG is looking for. J.J. McCarthy PERSON is a winner, though. You cannot hide from the fact that he is a winner. He operates the offense at extreme high level. I know people talk about system quarterbacks. To me, a system quarterback is a lot of guys that operate at a high level. And if J.J. McCarthy PERSON can do that at this level, which he played in pro offense in college,I think he'll have a chance to be a good player as well.

Speaker 3549.3s - 557.06s

Yeah, I mean, I went and looked at the draft previews of J.J. McCarthy several months ago. They all said at this point, game manager. Yes. None of Pennix PERSON has said that.

Speaker 14557.28s - 563.3s

Yeah. There were concerns about him, but he was not viewed as a game manager. He was viewed as a great deep ball thrower.

Speaker 2563.5s - 563.7s

Yes.

Speaker 9563.76s - 571.16s

Concerns about his underneath stuff. I always said, I'll take a quarterback. I got to teach a drag route too, but you can't make Tua PERSON have a great deep ball.

Speaker 14571.34s - 572.7s

I can't teach that.

Speaker 3573.36s - 582.88s

Yeah. Bo Nicks at 12. Now, I don't know what the comp is, but I tend to think with Sean Payton PERSON, it will work.

Speaker 14583.12s - 584.42s

What do you think on that?

Speaker 3584.42s - 585.72s

No, I think he went to the perfect place, just like J PERSON on that? No, I think he went to the perfect place.

Speaker 14585.8s - 619.24s

Just like J.J. McCarthy PERSON, I think he went to the perfect offense, you know, with a great play caller. I think Sean PERSON will put him in a position to succeed. You know, the kid has tremendous leadership skills. He's another guy who's a football junkies. Dad was a football coach, was also a quarterback. I think sometimes when we get on Bo Nix, it's because some of his struggles previously at Auburn ORG,which I think is hard to do. When you look at the second round, second pick in the draft, Jaden Daniels PERSON, who did not play particularly well at Arizona State ORG at times. So both of those guys got to better football programs, got coached in a way where they could improve their game and really help their stock.

Speaker 3619.5s - 631.58s

I remember this about Bo Nix PERSON. He was a freshman at Auburn ORG. Oregon came in with Justin Herbert, and they were favored to beat Auburn. And Bo Nix PERSON, as a freshman, had the game-winning drive late.

Speaker 7631.88s - 636.62s

Yeah. And I remember, you know, at the time I'm like, who's Bo Nix PERSON? In fact, I was mad. I said,

Speaker 3636.72s - 642.34s

Oregon, you can't lose to a freshman. Right. So Bo Nix PERSON was a highly touted guy who, by the way,

Speaker 7642.72s - 648.02s

I think there's value in transferring, better program, better players, and flourishing,

Speaker 14648.1s - 655.78s

and that's what he did. Yeah, there's no doubt. I don't love the portal, but at the same time, some of those opportunities that we've seen, like a guy like Bow Knicks ORG,I think it certainly has paid off.

Speaker 3656.14s - 673.36s

People are very critical of Buffalo ORG moving back. Now, first pick in the second round, they have all day and all night to negotiate. It didn't bother me. Your take on wide receivers, their needs moving back.

Speaker 14673.5s - 689.14s

Yeah, I mean, I always love the top of two anyways, you know, because you always have that time, as you talked about, to really judge what's left on the board. Sometimes there guys that maybe slipped out of the first round. It should have been first round picks. And certainly a lot of good players. I mean, who's to say Ladd-McConkie's not going to be better than Xavier Worthy PERSON?

Speaker 0689.74s - 723.38s

He may be when it's all said and done. But, you know, I think probably the biggest thing that I would have a concern is here is a team that you're chasing and the bill's chasing the chiefs. And it's almost like a mind trick a little bit, that they're trading with the team that they're chasing, you know? And I'm not to say that the bill shouldn't have stood pat and took Xavier Worthy PERSON, but, you know, the Kansas City Chiefs had already gotten Hollywood Brown, who's a very similar player in the offseason. So another speed guy, another undersized, sort of lean, linear guy.You know, Worthy reminds me a little bit of Deshawn Jackson coming out of Cal ORG.

Speaker 3723.5s - 732.54s

Okay, there you go. So that's your comp. Because to me, he's a track guy that's a bit small. Yep. I do worry sometimes if those guys can get off the line, injuries, but you like Xavier Worthy PERSON.

Speaker 14732.54s - 744.6s

Yeah, you know, again, I think, you know, for what it's worth, you know, he's a speed guy that's going to uncover and create big time plays down the field. Now, the biggest difference is, can he get gritty? Can he play between the hashes? That's the real question.

Speaker 3745.08s - 765.1s

So the Bronk Bowers pick is interesting. So outside a receiver, the biggest difference is, can he get gritty? Can he play between the hashes? That's the real question. So the Bronc Bauer's PERSON pick is interesting. So outside a receiver, the number one miss first round position is tied end. Bowers is exceptional. Yes. The Raiders ORG needed a quarterback. Instead of moving up, they went tied end. He's good, but that's not generally a position of need, or is it?

Speaker 14765.76s - 779.74s

I think if you have a game changer, it can be. Particularly for a team like the Raiders who took the best player available is really what they did. I know that the Raiders ORG were disappointed because I know they wanted Jaden Daniels PERSON, and I know they also would have takenMichael Pennix Jr. PERSON if he would have fell.

Speaker 3779.92s - 781.96s

Yeah, you heard that too. Yeah, so their inability

Speaker 14781.96s - 796.44s

to get up to get Pennix PERSON probably is a real head scratcher, yet at the same time to be able to get panics probably is a real head scratcher, yet at the same time to be able to take a guy like Brock Bowers PERSON, you know, if you're playing with a mediocre quarterback or a guy who's average at best, there's nothing like having a guy like Brock Bowers PERSON to help that quarterback play.

Speaker 3799.92s - 820.92s

You hosted the show last night with Jay Glazer, LeVar, Rob Stone PERSON, the Fox Sports Radio Draft Show last night. When you're in, I've only been in the draft room one time. You know, you go through, I am sure, five or six run-throughs on this. Yes. Do you ever get caught off guard?Like when these situations happen, we tend to think everything's thought out, but we're, I mean, Atlanta ORG takes penics.

Speaker 14821.18s - 822.08s

Yes.

Speaker 3826.8s - 828.68s

Did you ever have a sense of stuff that was going to happen, or were you ever truly surprised?

Speaker 14832.56s - 868.24s

Well, I mean, I generally felt like I kind of had a feel for it, yet at the same time, there was one year. I think I was picking 19 or 18, and I'll never forget there were four players that I coveted. I mean, I really, really wanted bad. And then at 19, those four players were still there at like 15.So I think, okay, we got a chance to get one of them. All four of those players went right before I picked. All of them. And you want to talk about a sick feeling. So I'm sitting there. Matter of fact, I was picking a 20.And then we traded back with the Saints ORG. We took Dan Buchanan PERSON, who ended up having a decent career early on. And then we took John Brown with the third round pick that we acquired from that trade. It was a good receiver for some time.

Speaker 3871.28s - 876.22s

Yeah, you could see when Jacksonville moved back yesterday, they wanted Brian Thomas. Because Ridley left, and you could see they were praying Pittsburgh ORG didn't take him,

Speaker 9876.44s - 878.76s

and Pittsburgh ORG has a history of landing quarterbacks.

Speaker 14878.96s - 883.7s

So, Jaden Daniels goes two.

Speaker 9883.88s - 885.22s

So I thought that was the pick.

Speaker 0886.42s - 887.68s

Did you at two?

Speaker 3887.88s - 889.52s

Yeah. Why over Drake May PERSON?

Speaker 14889.52s - 915.06s

Well, you know, I knew Cliff PERSON really liked him. And to me, Drake May was a guy that was in that number two spot the whole offseason until sort of the lead up to the draft. I think that Drake May maybe didn't have as good offseason in terms of the workouts, the measurables, and all those different things. I felt like he was a little careless with the football, you know, sort of turning the ball over. And I don't think he took the Carolina ORG program to a higher level that he should have for being a top-notch quarterback.

Speaker 3915.52s - 947.22s

And I thought Jane Daniels played it just flawless as senior year at LSU ORG. Yeah, the, you know, it's funny about quarterbacks. Where they land matters a lot. I thought there was an argument to be made for New England to get the roster right. Yeah. And then go get a free agent quarterback next year. The ghost of Brady still hangs over that franchise. They go get Drake May PERSON with a weak roster, and also he's the least refined of these guys. Does that worry you?

Speaker 14947.46s - 970.3s

Yeah, you know, there's something about Drake May PERSON that just sort of reminded me of a guy like Kyle Kyle, Kyle Bowler coming out of Cal, or even like a Blaine Gabber coming out of Missouri ORG. Has all the physical attributes, looks the part, is a very, very smart guy, good, good upside, yet at the same time, is it there? Does he have it? Right. And to me, with the quarterbacks, if you don't have that it factor, it's going to be hardto be successful in this league.

Speaker 3970.3s - 972.6s

And you knew it with Kyler PERSON immediately when you got it.

Speaker 14972.6s - 978.72s

Yeah, it felt like, it felt like just Kyler PERSON was just a baller. You know, he just had that sort of confidence that he was the best on the field at all times.

Speaker 3978.92s - 1005.24s

All right. Steve Kime PERSON joining us for our radio audience. So when you look, so now you have time in your Buffalo ORG, and you're sort of sizing everything up, what if, and Buffalo does need a receiver, Washington Husky still have two. I would argue A.D. Mitchell, many people like him overworthy at Texas ORG, there's receivers everywhere in this draft. Do you think Buffalo, with the first pick, is getting calls this morning to move back? Oh, I don't think there's any question. You know, generally, and I've had the first pick is getting calls this morning to move back?

Speaker 141005.34s - 1028.18s

Oh, I don't think there's any question. You know, generally, and I've had the first pick in the second round, that pick is highly coveted. And we're talking about probably anywhere from, I'm guessing Colin, six to eight teams are probably calling to try to get up to that spot. Because there are still guys on some people's boards that are top 15 picks for them. You know, a few years ago, I traded up in high in the second round for Buda Baker PERSON, who was a safety out of Washington ORG that I loved.

Speaker 111028.3s - 1035.8s

Yeah. And I had a first round grade on him, so I traded up to the very top of the second round, was able to acquire Buddha PERSON, and the rest's history. I think he's been to five or six Pro Bowls EVENT. Yeah.

Speaker 31036.28s - 1052.68s

So, you know, it is funny how people are viewed. Do you follow any of the draft stuff and the experts? You're watching all this stuff? Because, listen, I think most of the draft stuff and the experts you're watching all this stuff because listen i think most of the time um you know the draft people are mostly onto it obviously

Speaker 01052.68s - 1064.6s

panics was much more highly thought of than mccarthy that's pretty clear yeah but but by and large um did you ever have a moment in the draft when you well you just said this

Speaker 31064.6s - 1071.62s

that you thought you may have been on an island with a player like everybody liked booted to some degree it was a whole player

Speaker 151071.62s - 1085.14s

safeties don't usually go in the first round Kyle Hamilton did that's right but it do you ever feel and second guess yourself thinking you know I like this guy and nobody let none of these draft preview did you rely on sc, your intermission? What is Buffalo ORG doing right now?

Speaker 141085.2s - 1138.5s

You know, I was hoping that the scouts would sort of drive guys up to me that they liked, that maybe even were, and you know, as a general manager, you want people to be emphatic about their opinion. You don't want them to just get with the herd and just do what everybody else, no pun intended, to do what everybody else is doing. You want people to have their own original opinions and that's what you get paid for as a scout. But, you know, for me, I always relied on my gut and my instincts, you know, which was the big part of it. You have to do that as an evaluator. And listen, I mean, the best quarterback in the game early in the draft process was not thought of as a top 15 pick. Patrick Mahomesearly on was thought to go in a second round. Texas Tech ORG had had some poor habits, was not always mechanically sound, and there were some questions about him. I throw on the tape, and I'm like, this guy's going top ten. There's no doubt. Eventually, the right people are going to see him on tape, and he's going to climb the ranks, and he obviously did,and Kansas City traded up for him, and the rest is history.

Speaker 31138.6s - 1161.44s

Well, we talked about this yesterday. Josh Allen was the third pick. Justin Herbert, a lot of people like two and more than him. Is there anything with all these team drafting quarterbacks? The sizes are different. The shapes are different. The armed talent is different. Is there anything with quarterback? Washington, New England, Minnesota, Denver ORG. Like, I think Chicago ORG got the best quarterback. Do you believe that?

Speaker 01161.56s - 1164.68s

Caleb Williams in terms of power and jet fuel.

Speaker 31165.78s - 1176.36s

Was there ever in your career, was there something that there's a through line where you're like all quarterbacks at some point have this? Or does that not exist? No, I don't think it exists. I think

Speaker 141176.36s - 1194.74s

they're all so different. And again, the mental makeup is a real big part of it, obviously. And that's the hardest part to read. I mean, we can judge the skill sets, the arm, the throwing motion, all those physical traits that we all fall in love with. The hardest part is to read is the heart and the mind. And the two toughest things to do and probably the most critical things to do, particularly at that position.

Speaker 31195.18s - 1224.24s

So I think Arizona has a chance with 11 picks starting yesterday, two, and the first, to come out the most improved team. I ran into Kyler at a UFC ORG fight. We chatted, got along great. There are some concerns like, we know he's the guy. We know it's the talent. Do you think stuff is overvalued in terms of video games, putting stuff out, not practicing?I mean, when I watch him play, he looks dialed into me. But are those legitimate concerns going forward for Cardinal Fibald ORG?

Speaker 141224.24s - 1257.66s

I think he's a fierce competitor. I really do. I think he's just a guy that's young and still has not played a ton of football. You think about in the offseason he always played baseball in college. Then he goes to the pros. He had a couple good years and he gets hurt.So now he had to sit out and I think that time maybe it bodes well for him because now he was able to sit back and see what it takes to be a real true pro. And I think the Cardinals a ace it. To have two those first round picks to be able to get him a weapon like Marvin Harrison Jr., to be able to sit back and see what it takes to be a real true pro. And I think the Cardinals a aced it. To have two of those first round picks, to be able to get him a weapon like Marvin Harrison, Jr. PERSON, to be able to get the rusher from Missouri ORG, who I know is a versatile player who can play inside and out,I think they aced it as well as the two other teams who had two first round picks, Minnesota and Chicago ORG.

Speaker 31258.08s - 1262.32s

Were you surprised the Bears ORG in their history took another receiver?

Speaker 141262.88s - 1279.48s

I loved it because I thought there's nothing better for a young quarterback than a great player like a Doonze. And to me, I'm not saying he's Larry Fitzgerald PERSON, but he has some of those traits. Great character, great leader. He's got tremendous ball skills, great in a crowd, great catching radius. I think they're all in and he's a really good player.

Speaker 31279.48s - 1293.76s

So Ryan Poles missed on a couple early receivers, Bealus Jones, Chase Claypool. He's had a great six months. The Bears ORG have a defensive coach. My prediction was Matt Iber Fluse PERSON was going to pound that table.

Speaker 91294.42s - 1300.66s

Do you think last night, I mean, you know, you had offense, defensive coaches. Do you think Iber Fluse PERSON was pounding the table?

Speaker 31300.82s - 1307.66s

Because Poles PERSON is now, he's ac aced his old line tackles the the draft

Speaker 91307.66s - 1312.06s

you know Cole Commets been a player D'Andre Swift PERSON they get there's been a lot of

Speaker 61312.06s - 1320.4s

positive moves do you think Chicago do you think that nine pick was settled on earlier or that Iber Fluse PERSON may have been saying I'm a de-coach I need to pass

Speaker 141320.4s - 1339s

Russia I thought I would think the coach Iberflus PERSON sort of was smart enough to know, listen, if one of these three receivers is here to pair with this quarterback, you can't go wrong. To me again, those top three receivers, everybody had them a little different ranked, but at the end of the day, too valuable, too good of a player, too solid. He's almost

Speaker 31339s - 1353.78s

a can't miss in my opinion. Finally, Caleb Williams, any concerns at all, you watched a ton of him. I always say, just go watch the Arizona ORG game. He'll put your, because Arizona ORG was in a good football team. Anything that worries you about some of his off-script stuff?

Speaker 141353.78s - 1386.06s

I just, I think the simple part of the game. I think, again, when you have guys like him that can do so many rare things physically, sometimes you take sort of for granted the ability to play calm and poised inside the system, not having to improvise so much, which can create bad habits because of your skill set. And for him, I think he's just got to play smart. He's got to play within the system. Don't hold on the ball too long. Get rid of it and live to fight another day. But I think he is a tremendoustalent, and he does some things that are very, very hard to imagine.

Speaker 31386.22s - 1387.9s

Now, you saw Mahomes PERSON on tape.

Speaker 141388s - 1407.82s

Yep. You saw him. What do you make of that comp? I think there's some similarities, especially the sort of the off-platform throws, the ability of armed talent, the freakish nature to get themselves out of trouble and still make throws down the field. Just exceptional. And I know Cliff PERSON had them both and he thinks are very similar.

Speaker 31409.4s - 1426.5s

Some people worry, Chicago ORG's a big town. He is beautiful girlfriend, big celebrity, USC ORG. I've argued he's the first NIL ORG superstar. We've got to give him a little bit of a pass on this. jumps into the stands for mom, the nail polished. What do you make of all that stuff?

Speaker 141426.6s - 1453.68s

You know what, to me, in those situations, particularly if I want to be the guy drafting him, don't overthink it. There's very few Caleb Williams walking this earth. So don't overthink it. And if you're going to miss, you're going to miss on the person, not the player. Really? You know, I think if you're going to miss, you're going to miss because the guy didn't love it enough. But that's not, to me, after talking to Cliff PERSON about him and the way Cliff said he's dialed in, the way he competes, the way he wants to be better, he's a football junkie. I don't have concerns. Yeah.

Speaker 31453.88s - 1460.24s

The guy, he was all riled up last night. That was so much fun to watch. That was great. Steve Kime, see you at dinner tonight. Absolutely. All right.

Speaker 71650.94s - 1651.56s

Turn on the news.

Speaker 31651.96s - 1654.32s

This is the herd line news.

Speaker 51655.46s - 1656.92s

Let's start with Jim Harbaugh PERSON.

Speaker 71657.02s - 1672.68s

Everybody's new favorite coach in the NFL ORG. Chargers went at 5, did not trade down, and they got the best tackle available in Joe Alt out of Notre Dame ORG. Some have criticized the pick after L.A. ORG got rid of their top receivers. Malik Neighbors PERSON was on the board. Hardball PERSON pushed back on that narrative.

Speaker 111673.6s - 1705.12s

I know the question is going to come up and you're going to say, like, you know, what about a weapon? What about a offense alignment? We look at as weapons. That group, when we talk about attacking, we talk about attacking on offense. Offense align is the tip of the spirit.Have total confidence and trust that we got it right. And then you've got to go make it right. And I believe that we've got a great partner in doing that in Joe All PERSON.

Speaker 31706.14s - 1709.02s

You know, first round, get the best player available.

Speaker 111709.3s - 1713.32s

They also have picks at the top of the second, third, fourth, fifths, six rounds.

Speaker 31713.5s - 1775.4s

They can move back on those and get other picks. Sometimes the people that cover this draft are not smart. Wide receiver is the deepest position in the draft. There are tons in the second and third and fourth round. Pooka Naku was a fifth rounder last year in a bad draft. The idea that you just, when you get to the top five pick, take the best player available and the tackle bust rate is like 30% bust. The receiver bust rate is 73% bust. But first of all, the other thing is, when Rashon Slater PERSON got hurt their left tackle, now they have another tackle. If a big body 310-pound guy has ever gotten hurt, there are chances they get hurt again, like centers in the NBA ORG. Like, Joe Alt is the best player available in their eyes at that spot. When, you know, generally speaking, taking the best tackle in a draftis never a bad thing, unless you don't have a quarterback, and they do. So they have eight picks left, second or third, two fourths, fifth, sixth, and two seventh. They're going to probably move down second and third

Speaker 01775.4s - 1782.36s

and accumulate more, but there is plenty of time. The second round is a great receiver round. Great.

Speaker 71782.82s - 1813.56s

Yeah, I mean, listen, I think the charges are going to be a good place. I think this is a, not to give away too much for later, I think this is a playoff team in the A. Great. Yeah, I mean, listen, I think the Chargers ORG are going to be a good place. I think this is a... Not to give away too much for later. I think this is a playoff team in the AFC. And the AFC is stacked. I think they crack the code mostly thanks to Jim Harbaugh PERSON.Next up, let's do the Dallas Cowboys, Colin PERSON. Traded down from 24 to 29 to take Oklahoma tackled Tyler Guyton PERSON. See him here on the video. He will take over at left tackle after Tyron Smith PERSON left for my jets. Here's Jerry Jones chiming in on Tyler Guyton PERSON.

Speaker 91814.4s - 1834.52s

It's hard to do with offensive island. You would hope to have a little sexiness to this pick using your first round pick. I actually thought we had that with Tyler Smith two years ago. I think we got it here. This is a sexy pick for an offensive line because it's got a lot of upside. And so I'm excited about that.

Speaker 31835.58s - 1870.22s

Yeah, I mean, the Cowboys ORG have drafted pretty well with their top picks. Micah and C.D. Lamb PERSON. You can't criticize the Cowboys ORG' top picks. They've usually been very, very strong. And, again, they moved down and got it tackle. I'm not going to beat up on that. You can't criticize the Cowboys ORG' top picks. They've usually been very, very strong. And, again, they moved down and got a tackle.I'm not going to beat up on that. It's fine. Listen, you've got to get Dak PERSON some help. If that help is a tackle, it's help. That's not good enough with an average offensive line. Now they have to go get another receiver. So Dallas is in a spot where let's go get another receiver in the second and third round, and I think they will address that. Yeah, my guess is the logic

Speaker 71870.22s - 1879.26s

here. If we take a first round receiver again, let's say he doesn't pan out because as you said the bust rates high, let's just take a safe tackle and then we could take two receivers later.

Speaker 31879.42s - 1883.26s

That's right. Yeah, it's just a numbers game and they did Buffalo ORG move back,

Speaker 71883.7s - 1885.14s

Dallas ORG moved back.

Speaker 31886.14s - 1888.06s

It's okay. This is the smart play.

Speaker 71888.44s - 1890.12s

Jets slid back one pick, got a tackle.

Speaker 31890.32s - 1907.1s

That's right. Final story is the Niners ORG. A lot of questions about what they were going to do with the Brandon Ayuk PERSON situation swirling. So they end up drafting a receiver at 31. GM John Lynch PERSON, he knew the questions were coming. He addressed the receiver and their situation after the draft.

Speaker 11908.26s - 1921.86s

Brandon being a part of this team, Debo is a part of this team and a big part of this team. So like I said, we feel great about that group and we feel like we just made it better with another really good addition to it who complements the group real well.

Speaker 51922.5s - 1923.86s

Close the door on a trade.

Speaker 11924.42s - 1938.86s

Never close the door on a trade. Never close the door on a trade. I mean, we'll always listen and we have. But we like our group as it stands. I think they're going to make a move with Ayyuk PERSON.

Speaker 71939.1s - 1948.52s

With Buffalo ORG. Okay, so let's come up. Let's say, is there another team? How's this? Is there another team with a quarterback on a rookie deal who could afford Iyuk the way Houston GPE was?

Speaker 31948.52s - 1948.76s

Carolina ORG.

Speaker 71950.04s - 1960.62s

Carolina ORG did just draft the receiver, but, you know, you can always use another one. I'm thinking of an AFC team. You know the GM a little bit. Indianapolis Colts have Pittman PERSON. And, you know.

Speaker 31960.84s - 1962.4s

And they wanted Brock Bowers PERSON.

Speaker 71962.56s - 1971.46s

I was told they did try to move up to get Brock Bowers PERSON. Keep an eye on the Colts ORG. Yeah, and Shane Steichen PERSON will get the most out of any weapon. That's not a bad call at all. You got Anthony Richardson PERSON.

Speaker 31971.68s - 1976.8s

I mean, load them up with receivers. Yeah, I don't think that's a bad call. I love Ayuk PERSON. I think Ayuk PERSON is crazy.

Speaker 71976.94s - 1982.12s

I mean, it's weird. We both like him. But, again, when you see the money Amor-Rossain Brown PERSON guy, I'm not giving. I'm sorry.

Speaker 31982.28s - 2004.12s

By the way, Anthony Richardson PERSON's got a big arm. Brock Purdy PERSON doesn't. So I-Uk, there's an argument to great-fit-in-indoss-Ain-Brown guy. I'm not giving, I'm sorry. By the way, Anthony Richardson's got a big arm. Brock Purdy doesn't. So I-Uk, there's an argument to great-fit in Indy with Stuyken PERSON and a strong-arm quarterback. The Niners ORG don't throw the ball over the top. They just don't. It's not the, it's not Shanahan PERSON's offense. So I could argue I-Uk's great, but the slot guy they got, the Ricky Pear, Saul PERSON, the kid from Florida GPE, he's a slot guy. That's much

Speaker 72004.12s - 2017.56s

more built for their offense than an over-the-top receiver, although he's not as good as IU ORG. I don't know who's pushing this Debo narrative. There's some reporters in Sanfran GPE that Debo could be on his way out. I just personally hate that move. I think he is such a valuable.

Speaker 32017.72s - 2030.2s

You can't find that in the draft. You can find straight line guys inside outside. You can't find the Debo's Samuel. He is one of the best chess pieces, right in the league, I would say. Ohbo PERSON's him he is one of the best chess pieces right in the league I would say no I think he's probably now the best chess piece well I mean McAfric ORG they

Speaker 72030.2s - 2032.3s

have basically McCaffrey and Debo are two of the best

Speaker 32032.3s - 2034.1s

they're probably two of the best so I wouldn't

Speaker 72034.1s - 2035.38s

move off Debo I'm sorry yeah

Speaker 32035.38s - 2038.06s

JMAC with the news

Speaker 52038.06s - 2039.98s

Speaker 32353.06s - 2541.1s

So we know that 30% of the first round will be a miss, and certain positions like wide receiver, tight-end safety tend to be very, very prominent positions in terms of missing. Offensive linemen miss rarely in the first round, especially centers. Last 20 years, 92% of centers drafted in the first round, sign a second contract. So here's the three players in the first round. I just, I don't see any potential for missing. One of them is Caleb Williams, the quarterback for the Bears ORG. They have a really, really good roster. Backs, receivers, tight ends, and they still have draft picks. I just like what they have. They have a deep threat. They have veteran receivers. They have productive tight ends. And their GM picked another receiver in the first round. I just can't see it missing. Marvin Harrison of the Cardinals ORG. Listen, the last time he had a great receiver, DeAndre Hopkins PERSON, it was back-to-back Pro Bowls EVENT.Kyler Marie PERSON is an accurate thrower of the football. Marvin Harrison PERSON can go deep underneath. It doesn't matter. He runs the routes. I think he's the best receiver probably since Calvin Johnson PERSON in the draft. I don't see it missing. And Joe Alt, I am Harbaugh in Michigan and Harbaugh, Stanford, and Harbaugh on the NFL built great offensive line. 6-8, 320, one sack allowed all season, and Notre Dame ORG played a real schedule. I don't see a miss there. I'm not talking multiple Pro Bowls, but I can't see Caleb, Marvin Harrison, or Joe Alt PERSON missing. The three players that I do worry about, and I look at, and I think there are circumstances that worry me, Drake May PERSON, doesn't have any playmakers, defensive head coach, they just don't get yards after the catch. So he's going to have to make plays with his feet. He's not a refinedquarterback yet. Defensive coaches don't tend to elevate unrefined young quarterbacks. I worry about that. Amarius Mims PERSON, eight college starts. I know Georgia ORG's got good players, and I understand Joe Burrow PERSON in that division needs protection. But a developmental offensive tackle in a division with T.J. Watt PERSON and Miles Garrett, that is a heck of a pass rush division.I don't like it. I didn't like the pick. Ricky Pirsall PERSON, a wide receiver. He's more of a slot receiver. I think there's better receivers after him. He makes an occasional spectacular play. He's got an incredible work ethic.Receivers, a high bust rate in the first round. And be honest with you, this is an offense that is complicated. It can take time to develop. They may move off another receiver, meaning people will put pressure on it. And the Niners and the Chiefs ORG, despite the fact they're well-run, have missed on a lot of wide receivers. It is a tough position to draft. So those three positions I have concerns about. The Lakers ORG are going to get swept. They lost game three last night, and it looked just like the other games against Denver ORG. LeBron James PERSON is taking some heat this morning for his comments after the third straight loss in this series.

Speaker 132542.24s - 2548.92s

You're supposed to have anxiety and pressure and feel the pressure. That's what it's about. This is what the postseason is about.

Speaker 02549.44s - 2556.48s

Me and this guy been playing together for six years. We've been to the mountain top. We've been close to the mountain top. We've played a lot of games.

Speaker 132556.84s - 2576.16s

We know what it takes to win. We know what it takes to win a championship and how, you know, damn, and near perfect you got to be. That's not like something that's so crazy to obtain. I've been a part of it four times. And it's just basketball. At the end of the day, it's just basketball.

Speaker 32576.98s - 2784.06s

Well, when you win, it's legacy, brand building, and amazing, when you lose, hard to pivot to, well, it's just basketball. Basketball is really important. It is your brand. So we had said, we suggested this was viewed as a hot take. Jay Mack and I said, lose to the Pelicans, rest LeBron and AD, go play O'KC ORG.You match up great. They're young. You're bigger. You'll lean on them. And it will give the off season after you win that series or go seven, optimism and hope. When you get flushed out in four or five by Denver, Darvin Ham PERSON's in trouble.LeBron PERSON's angry. People get defensive. They'll probably have to make a big move. The upside to getting shelled by Denver again, it will force the Lakers to go get Trey Young PERSON, who I think fits. You've got to stop convincing yourself, basically, that Austin Reeves and Dilo PERSON are dependable in the playoffs. They're not. And D'Avonham PERSON's going to take the heat. But what you really see in this is Denver is like the luxury brand of the Lakers ORG. The Lakers ORG are the generic brand. Everything the Lakers do well, rebounding, Denver ORG's better. Defend late size, Denver ORG's better. Defend late size.Denver ORG's better. Clutch time offense. Denver ORG's the better luxury brand version of this. And so sometimes in sports you kind of try to see around corners. What's a good matchup? What's a bad matchup? How will it land if we lose? And this was obvious. Denver ORG's just better everywhere. They've got younger stars, bigger stars. They have the best defender in the series. Arguably, AD's great, but AD is now relied on to score a lot of points because Dilo PERSON,Rui PERSON, just haven't shown up in the series. So you're going to get a really noisy offseason for the Lakers ORG. My guess is the upside to it, and there's duality in everything. There's an upside to every bad side. Is they're going to move off players who are convincing people they matter?DeLo, Rui PERSON, go get Trey Young PERSON, go get a dependable third star. I like Austin Reeves PERSON. That's not it. That's not beating Denver ORG. Some of this is, and we said before,we thought the Lakers ORG matched up well with Denver ORG. We didn't think they'd beat Denver ORG. There's a reason they've lost 10 or 11 straight. Denver does everything the Lakers ORG do well, slightly better or significantly better, and every one of these games has looked virtually the same.Whereas Jamal Murray may have a bad half, Deelow PERSON will have a bad game. Where Michael Porter may have a bad quarter, Ruy will have two bad game. Where Michael Porter may have a bad quarter, Rui will have two back-to-back bad games. That's the difference. The top end players overwhelmingly in the Nugget ORG's favor. Also, you can see this.So much is being asked of Anthony Davis that he runs out of gas in the fourth quarter, where Yokic can have a bad half in Denver, and then Jamal Murray PERSON can take it up. So you're watching Anthony Davis PERSON here. Like, Dilo PERSON scores no points. Rui PERSON gives you nothing. So Anthony Davis by the fourth is out of gas.So you know how you solve that? Trey Young PERSON. Trey Young gives you 28 a night. There'll be 34-point nights. So nights that Anthony Davis PERSON doesn't play well, doesn't have to worry about it. That's a guarantee. There are no guarantees with D. Lowe and Austin Reeves PERSON. These are second-tier players. So, Trey Young is a first-tier player that is imperfect. There's about six guys in this league without a lot of flaws. There's another dozen that are excellent. Kyrie Irving, Trey Young PERSON, with flaws. The Lakers ORG need another one of those. Okay.

Speaker 92784.34s - 2786.2s

So how do you get a Tray Young PERSON?

Speaker 72786.66s - 2809.66s

D-Lo, as you said, probably going to opt out. So you can't include him in a trade. So now you're looking at, oh, we've got Rui Hachimora and Austin Reeves, two starters, and three first-round picks. Is that even enough, A, to get Tray Young PERSON, and B, what's the rest of your roster? Like, the Lakers played three guys off the bench last night. Dinwiddie, Tori and Prince, and Gabe Vincent PERSON, my guy who was elected.

Speaker 32809.66s - 2813.96s

I got news for you. You know who had the best bench in the league last year? The Pacers ORG.

Speaker 72814.62s - 2815.54s

I'm not talking about bench.

Speaker 32815.64s - 2816.96s

They have three guys.

Speaker 72817.64s - 2822.84s

That's it. Trey, A.D. and LeBron PERSON. There's no room for error. Remember, LeBron PERSON and A.D.

Speaker 32822.88s - 2831.28s

played like the whole season, and they were in the playing. Okay, so you're saying right now, the Lakers have three guys. What do they have now? In the regular season.

Speaker 72831.38s - 2836.08s

Against anybody else, they look pretty good. They just ran into a juggernaut in Denver ORG, which they should have dumped.

Speaker 32836.08s - 2850.92s

Against everybody else, you do realize they don't play Denver every night. They had to be in the playing games. That's a fair point. They're not great against everybody else. They're especially vulnerable against Denver ORG, but they were in the playing.

Speaker 72850.92s - 2851.8s

They were in the playing last year,

Speaker 32851.84s - 2852.64s

and they got the conference finals.

Speaker 72852.78s - 2854.42s

So, like, the talent is there?

Speaker 32855.04s - 2856.34s

I just, I don't.

Speaker 72856.6s - 2858.94s

No, the talent is not there because the West.

Speaker 32859.24s - 2860.12s

Well, the top end talent.

Speaker 72860.18s - 2860.4s

I'm sorry.

Speaker 32860.5s - 2861.04s

LeBron and AD PERSON.

Speaker 72861.18s - 2861.68s

Top end talent.

Speaker 32861.76s - 2862.1s

We would agree.

Speaker 72862.2s - 2869.28s

And by the way, they'll be a year older next year. So this is not like Oklahoma City, Minnesota ORG. Okay, what do you do? Let's solve it.

Speaker 32869.48s - 2887.42s

Trey Young PERSON. Figure out how to get him. Make it work. Just get him. If you have to give, first of all, first round picks, with LeBron PERSON and AD, those aren't going to be great picks anyway. Fair? Move anything that's not LeBron and AD to get Trey Young PERSON. If you get Donovan Mitchell, that's good too, and AD to get Trey Young PERSON. If you get Donovan Mitchell PERSON, that's good too,but I would favor Trey Young PERSON.

Speaker 72887.5s - 2895.98s

Yeah, let's see what happens with that Cavs ORG' magic. Because Donovan Mitchell PERSON, to me, is way more appealing. That guy's an animal. Trey Young PERSON, I'm not

Speaker 32895.98s - 2897.34s

anti-Donovan Mitchell PERSON.

Speaker 72897.34s - 2903.2s

If he lands here. It's probably just too difficult. I think he's viewed as a better defender, I think. Better everything, probably?

Speaker 32904.06s - 2911.8s

Well, you know. He can be a little bit of a hole. Sometimes he gets, he's got a little Westbrook PERSON, a little bit, I think. Better everything, probably. Well, you know. He can be a little bit of a hole. Sometimes he gets, he's got a little Westbrook PERSON, a little bit, a little bit. Trey PERSON doesn't? He does too.

Speaker 62912.42s - 2913.82s

I like his game, though. It's fun.

Speaker 32914.24s - 2914.94s

Hour three next.

Speaker 62915.26s - 2927.18s
