Speaker 50s - 16.78s

How would you feel if the family of the car that you just bought got back in touch and said, look, the previous owner was really in love with this car, so much so that in his will he's written that he wants to be taken to the crematorium in it.

Speaker 117.16s - 19.7s

Oh my God.

Speaker 520.64s - 20.94s

Right.

Speaker 121.62s - 24.36s

So they want to borrow the car to pop him in.

Speaker 524.76s - 25.24s

Okay. Feats down, drive him off to the crematorium. Right. What? So they want to borrow the car to pop him in. Okay.

Speaker 125.46s - 27.84s

Feats down, drive him off to the crematorium.

Speaker 428.64s - 29.08s

Right.

Speaker 529.26s - 29.68s

Are you sure?

Speaker 429.9s - 30.24s

No.

Speaker 131.14s - 31.64s

Right.

Speaker 432.18s - 32.54s

Now.

Speaker 132.98s - 34.06s

So how do you feel about that?

Speaker 534.96s - 45.78s

Now, genuinely, dear listener, so to break the illusion of production here, sometimes we have a pre-discussion before we hit the record button about what we're going to talk about, including some of the talking topics, and we reveal all. And then when we tell the stories, we pretend we're here. Sometimes we have a pre-discussion before we hit the record button about what we're going to talk about,

Speaker 445.84s - 47.18s

including some of the talking topics,

Speaker 147.38s - 48.14s

and we reveal all.

Speaker 548.24s - 49.26s

And then when we tell the stories,

Speaker 349.44s - 50.84s

we pretend we're hearing them for the first time.

Speaker 551.2s - 55.72s

Genuinely, that is something I did not know.

Speaker 359.68s - 60.96s

Hello, I'm John Mark Carr PERSON.

Speaker 561.4s - 62.36s

And I'm Mars Lacey PERSON.

Speaker 362.68s - 63.76s

And I'm Amy Haynes PERSON.

Speaker 564.22s - 86.26s

And on this week's episode, Amy shocks us with an update on her Volvo and genuinely does shock us. Miles has ticked off his first press car for driven and it's a good one. Amy and I have been to the Goodwood members meeting doing some podcasting and photography. Miles has been sitting in traffic jams in India. I've been driving some massive trucks. Mars PRODUCT has done his CBT and is now a

Speaker 386.26s - 93.52s

motorcyclist, and we have some spectacular stories about speed awareness courses. Welcome to the

Speaker 593.52s - 109.9s

Driven Podcast. Enjoy. Hello.

Speaker 3113.7s - 114.46s

Hello and welcome to the latest driven podcast.

Speaker 5119.28s - 126.12s

I'm afraid, dear listener, this is one of those episodes where it is just the three hosts. And I know that that does divide the room, as divided by one of our kind reviewers, who's recently been very

Speaker 3126.12s - 132.96s

kind in giving us a five-star review, but did say, for the love of God, please stop the

Speaker 0132.96s - 138.08s

wittering drivel that is the host's only episodes, or keep them to just 20 minutes or so at most.

Speaker 1138.38s - 143.82s

So I don't know what your name is, but I'm afraid this is probably one you're going to want to

Speaker 3143.82s - 165.12s

skip. So, yeah, sorry about that. But what I will say whilst we start, because we're sort of halfway through our return season for the Driven Podcast ORG, is I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone, including the person that gave us that review, because they did give us five stars, and that was very kind. And they were very complimentary about one of the other episodes that we did.

Speaker 5167.24s - 169.24s

I wish it was the episode and not the guest.

Speaker 3173.74s - 173.82s

Johnny Smith PERSON. Oh, maybe it was the guest. Yeah, no, yeah, maybe it was. But no, a huge,

Speaker 5180.02s - 218.9s

huge, heartfelt, genuine thanks to everyone that's taken a moment to review the podcast so far. We do ask for it, and I know it sounds a bit crass when we ask for it at the end of each episode, but it genuinely does make a massive difference to us and what we do. The more people that leave nice reviews, the more the promotional algorithms will promote our podcast to other people like you. And the more people that listen to us means that we make more money through advertising revenue. The more money we make through advertising revenue means we can do more of the same and more. So a huge thank you to everyone that has given a review. And if you haven't done it yet, this is your prompt. Go and help us out. This is the only thing we ask. We don't charge for these. We don't do Patreon. We don't get you to subscribe every month. This is a completely free and I want to continue a completely free outlet for as long as

Speaker 3218.9s - 225.3s

possible. So yeah, if you are enjoying it, let us know with a nice review and share it with a friend.

Speaker 5225.84s - 227.26s

And you can say if it's drivel as well.

Speaker 3227.5s - 227.86s

You always.

Speaker 5228.02s - 228.4s

You can.

Speaker 2228.58s - 229.78s

No, you can.

Speaker 3229.9s - 231.8s

Constructively. It's still a review. It's still a review.

Speaker 5232.36s - 234.9s

If you could just say, your crap, five stars.

Speaker 3235.5s - 258.36s

Well, I think that's what this person's done, essentially. But then two or three episodes later, there's another one, five stars. Hooray, you're back. Missed you guys during your break. But loving the new format, it feels like the show has had a real glow-up. That's nice. And then, this reviewer goes on to say, I'm excited to hear them all, but the hosts episodes with John Miles and Amy PERSON chatting and laughing away are always my favourite, so keep up

Speaker 5258.36s - 263.52s

a good one. So, you know, we're on the fence, we've got a 50-50 device. Where do you sit

Speaker 3263.52s - 265.28s

in this, dear listener? Let us know.

Speaker 5265.38s - 268.34s

Maybe we should a poll on Instagram ORG. That's not a bad shout.

Speaker 3268.98s - 269.92s

Yeah, okay, we'll do that.

Speaker 5270.08s - 272.5s

But if it came back with saying they're really rubbish.

Speaker 3272.68s - 273.38s

Then we'll stop doing them.

Speaker 5274.04s - 275.26s

I quite enjoy them.

Speaker 3275.72s - 298.62s

From a self-indulgent point of view, they are quite nice because it is one of the few occasions we, the three of us, get to sit down and have a chat. And you, dear listener, are just along for the ride. You join in on this conversation. We can't hear you, but feel free to talk.Whatever you're saying, we're sure it's just marvellous. Yeah, right. What have been up? Well, we have a developing breaking news story, actually. Do we? Yes, yes, we do.

Speaker 2298.72s - 302.14s

How breaking. Before we came into the recording studio,

Speaker 3302.14s - 309.22s

in fact, this was yesterday in our little WhatsApp group, Amy PERSON said, remind me to tell you a story about the Volvo ORG.

Speaker 0309.5s - 309.74s

Yeah.

Speaker 4315.82s - 318s

So obviously in our first episode of this new season, Amy PERSON revealed dramatically that she has purchased a new car. The car is a Volvo ORG.

Speaker 3319.14s - 321.48s

What's the latest news, Amy, with the Volvo ORG? Okay.

Speaker 5322.12s - 326.66s

So I want to hear your thoughts on this and also listeners, I'd like to hear

Speaker 4326.66s - 336.28s

your thoughts as well. So this Volvo is a 1995 Volvo that Will and I bought from a 102 year old.

Speaker 5336.46s - 336.72s

Yes.

Speaker 4336.76s - 341.28s

Who stopped driving it when he was 99. Good grief. He drove for a very, very long time. I think he

Speaker 5341.28s - 347.18s

was a second owner. Like he've had it for a very, very long time. So technically, he can't play Cludo PRODUCT anymore either.

Speaker 4347.88s - 350.3s

He cannot play Cludeau. That's true, yeah. Or Lego PRODUCT. Or Lego.

Speaker 5350.36s - 351.98s

Really? I didn't know that.

Speaker 4353.6s - 360.46s

Anyway, and so this car was really manky when we got it and it had to have some lots of cleaning

Speaker 5360.46s - 366.72s

into it and get fixed and so on and so forth. But it was a very beloved car of this old man.

Speaker 2367.8s - 370.38s

We're still in touch with the family of the old man.

Speaker 5370.46s - 374.34s

We found the very sad news that the old man has since passed away.

Speaker 2374.7s - 374.9s

Oh.

Speaker 5375.22s - 376.88s

So he really can't play Clued PRODUCT out now.

Speaker 2376.88s - 378.04s

He really can't play Clued PRODUCT in there.

Speaker 5378.06s - 379.02s

Definitely not like that.

Speaker 2379.88s - 383.42s

However, his will got read out fairly recently.

Speaker 5383.6s - 384.16s

Oh, God. Oh, no.

Speaker 2385.2s - 387.58s

So initially we were like, when we got the phone call, I thought, oh, no.

Speaker 5387.92s - 389.4s

Did he want, does he want it back?

Speaker 2389.48s - 390.2s

Or did they want it back?

Speaker 3390.2s - 390.8s

That's immediately what I thought.

Speaker 5390.9s - 394.26s

And like, then we think, do we sell it back for the amount that we paid for it?

Speaker 4394.4s - 395.86s

Or plus the, like, how does that work?

Speaker 3395.9s - 396.2s

But no.

Speaker 5396.68s - 397.7s

Should we make some money here?

Speaker 3397.86s - 400.34s

That's not what, that's not what.

Speaker 5400.9s - 409.7s

But it was the first thing I thought, yeah. How do I? Get money out the dead. No. So that was not the thing. That was the problem. It thought, yeah. How do I? Get money out the dead. No. So that was not the thing. That was the problem. It's not saying this is a problem.

Speaker 4410.62s - 415.94s

How would you feel if the family of the car that you just bought got back in touch and said,

Speaker 5416.1s - 424.16s

look, the previous owner was really in love with this car, so much so that in his will he's written that he wants to be taken to the crematorium in it.

Speaker 1424.48s - 427.08s

Oh, my God.

Speaker 4427.94s - 428.38s

Right.

Speaker 5429s - 431.74s

So they want to borrow the car to pop him in.

Speaker 4432s - 432.62s

Okay.

Speaker 1432.86s - 435.2s

Seats down and drive him off to the crematorium.

Speaker 5436.02s - 436.46s

Right.

Speaker 4436.66s - 437.06s

Are you chair?

Speaker 1437.28s - 437.62s

No.

Speaker 5438.54s - 439.02s

Right.

Speaker 3439.5s - 439.92s

Now.

Speaker 5440.36s - 441.46s

So how do you feel about that?

Speaker 3442.32s - 449.24s

Now, genuinely, dear listener, so to break the illusion of production here,

Speaker 5449.34s - 451.88s

sometimes we have a pre-discussion before we hit the record button

Speaker 3451.88s - 453.16s

about what we're going to talk about,

Speaker 5453.22s - 454.54s

including some of the talking topics,

Speaker 3454.78s - 465.3s

and we reveal all, and then when we tell the stories, we pretend we're hearing them for the first time. Genuinely, that is something I did not know. I, right, oh, okay.

Speaker 5465.3s - 467.66s

You can see why I said, remind me to tell you about the Volvo ORG story.

Speaker 3468.08s - 471.1s

So, remind it, it's a V-9-40 PRODUCT.

Speaker 5471.16s - 472.82s

It's a wagon.

Speaker 3472.94s - 472.98s

9-20?

Speaker 5472.98s - 475.9s

9-20 wagon, big, big boxy wagon.

Speaker 2476.1s - 480s

If you fold the seats down, you could quite easily fit a...

Speaker 5480s - 481.16s

Full, human.

Speaker 3481.32s - 481.72s

Human.

Speaker 5481.92s - 482.88s

Will he be in a casket?

Speaker 3483.06s - 483.3s

Yes.

Speaker 2483.36s - 484.04s

God, I hope so.

Speaker 3484.96s - 485s

Right. So obviously, we've. God, I hope so.

Speaker 5485.42s - 486.32s

Right.

Speaker 2487.86s - 489.42s

So obviously we've said yes I had a respect to him and the family.

Speaker 5489.58s - 489.78s

Good.

Speaker 2489.94s - 491.46s

But when it comes back to us,

Speaker 3491.54s - 493.98s

I'm not going to look at it in quite the same light.

Speaker 5494.18s - 494.84s

Oh my God.

Speaker 2496.22s - 498.18s

Have you ever had a request like this before?

Speaker 3498.34s - 499.52s

No, of course not.

Speaker 2499.74s - 500.58s

No one has.

Speaker 5500.64s - 501.32s

This is bizarre.

Speaker 2501.48s - 502.94s

John's got some interesting stories.

Speaker 3503.06s - 506.1s

I thought he might have something along the lines. I just, this isn't

Speaker 5506.1s - 508.14s

normal. No, I know, right? Is it

Speaker 2508.14s - 510.2s

even legal? I don't think, I guess

Speaker 5510.2s - 512.02s

it's, yeah, I guess they. He's stories

Speaker 2512.02s - 513.68s

about, like, casket getting taken on, like,

Speaker 3513.8s - 516s

motorbike sidecars, and there's a whole thing.

Speaker 2516.26s - 518.36s

Somebody got strapped to the top of a D-type.

Speaker 5518.8s - 519.92s

It's a thing. I

Speaker 1519.92s - 522.14s

I mean, I guess

Speaker 5522.14s - 524.04s

it wouldn't really bother me.

Speaker 2524.7s - 526.38s

I know some people, like, some people are very funny about,

Speaker 5526.42s - 527.9s

oh, I'd never buy an ex-hurst,

Speaker 2528.32s - 531.64s

which other than it being quite an impractical car to actually have.

Speaker 5531.86s - 532.38s

It would be great van.

Speaker 3532.38s - 534.3s

The idea of it would be a great van,

Speaker 5534.58s - 536.68s

but the idea of me driving an ex-hurst,

Speaker 3536.74s - 538.1s

like if we're doing one of these banger rallies,

Speaker 4538.22s - 539.22s

it wouldn't faze me at all.

Speaker 3539.36s - 542.12s

Because to me, it's been used as a storage vehicle.

Speaker 4542.24s - 544.9s

It just happens that the thing that's been stored and transported

Speaker 3544.9s - 546.66s

has been a dead person.

Speaker 5547.12s - 548.86s

But that doesn't do anything.

Speaker 3548.98s - 551s

I don't know if it would bother me, but does it bother you?

Speaker 5551.98s - 552.86s

I don't think so.

Speaker 3554.32s - 556s

It's a great story to tell.

Speaker 0556.1s - 557.8s

As they said, who will be driving it?

Speaker 5558.26s - 558.94s

I'm guessing.

Speaker 0559.2s - 561.38s

So basically, it is Will PERSON's best,

Speaker 5561.52s - 562.32s

this is a long one,

Speaker 2562.62s - 563.22s

my husband William PERSON,

Speaker 3563.54s - 566.68s

his best mate's girlfriend's grandfather is the deceased.

Speaker 2567.02s - 570.26s

So it's going to be Will PERSON's best mate that's probably going to drive it.

Speaker 3570.36s - 570.74s

Right.

Speaker 5570.9s - 573.26s

So, yeah, we have that connection.

Speaker 2573.26s - 575.94s

And have, here's a question on a more technical basis.

Speaker 5577.24s - 579.04s

Have the rear damper's been fixed yet?

Speaker 2580.96s - 582.16s

Because of the ice.

Speaker 4584.38s - 585s

Gosh.

Speaker 2585.68s - 587.1s

There's going to be nothing left

Speaker 4587.1s - 588.12s

on time we get there.

Speaker 2588.42s - 590.26s

They have, but there's still not great.

Speaker 4591.38s - 593.14s

Oh, my God.

Speaker 5593.14s - 595.9s

So I have said that if we can,

Speaker 4596.28s - 597.98s

and I don't know if again this is disrespectful,

Speaker 5598.16s - 599.26s

but I would like a photograph.

Speaker 0600.56s - 601.42s

Of what?

Speaker 4601.72s - 605.72s

Just, you know, to show its great extensive use.

Speaker 0605.88s - 607.14s

If we would ever sell it on again.

Speaker 4607.36s - 610.08s

Anyway, I would never use that to sell a car.

Speaker 5610.3s - 612.26s

You know, I'm sure we have all done this.

Speaker 2612.32s - 614.1s

If we've sold a car or a van or something,

Speaker 5614.36s - 615.72s

and sometimes you get a question like,

Speaker 4615.76s - 616.86s

oh, I know this might sound really funny,

Speaker 5616.96s - 619.16s

but we have to do like an IKEA ORG run.

Speaker 3619.26s - 622.22s

Do you think I can fit a flat-pack wardrobe in the back or something like that?

Speaker 2622.22s - 624.12s

And you could actually genuinely reply,

Speaker 0624.66s - 625.86s

well, you can fit a coffin.

Speaker 5626.16s - 634.04s

I know that for sure. But can you? Is somebody measured? Have you done a... No, but it's... From the length of the Volvo

Speaker 3634.04s - 637.66s

is longer than the defender with a towbar.

Speaker 5638.22s - 640.04s

And so I've slept in the defender.

Speaker 3640.04s - 641.02s

Okay, so it will fit.

Speaker 5641.14s - 644.68s

I imagine the Volvo ORG before... Do I go and try it? Try it out first?

Speaker 3644.68s - 645.32s

I think you should. I think on the it out first? I think you should.

Speaker 5645.76s - 651.3s

I think on the grounds of research, I think you should lie vertically in the back of your Volvo ORG.

Speaker 3651.62s - 651.96s

Yes.

Speaker 5653.02s - 656.48s

I don't know how much space there is between, I don't know how tall it was.

Speaker 3656.78s - 657.06s

I don't know.

Speaker 5657.06s - 658.12s

Yeah, that's the thing. Depends.

Speaker 2658.24s - 660.82s

I'm going to imagine he's not north of six foot.

Speaker 5660.98s - 662.14s

No, I wouldn't have thought so.

Speaker 2662.32s - 664.62s

And the other question is, is it a posh casket?

Speaker 5664.7s - 666.7s

Because if it's just a cardboard box, you know what I mean?

Speaker 3666.76s - 667.98s

You can just fire it in no problem.

Speaker 5668.08s - 671.02s

Yeah, what you don't want to have to do is tie the boot lid down with a bit of string.

Speaker 3671.6s - 673.44s

You know, you see people coming up from the garden centre.

Speaker 5673.44s - 675.52s

I totally forgot. The boot doesn't shut properly.

Speaker 4675.92s - 676.88s

Oh, my God.

Speaker 3677.52s - 681.32s

But we just rely on the fact that the boot lid is so heavy, it just stays shut.

Speaker 5681.4s - 682.68s

Or it just flaps around.

Speaker 3682.9s - 684.4s

Because it's really heavy.

Speaker 5684.48s - 691.32s

It doesn't flap around. But if you can imagine, and I suppose the Volvo ORG doesn't quite have, oh, no, maybe if you're going uphill at a bit of speed.

Speaker 2691.32s - 693.42s

Oh, no, no, I don't even want to picture this.

Speaker 5693.76s - 697.38s

This can't, that can't happen. Well, just ratchet strap the coffin now.

Speaker 2697.38s - 701s

Oh, that will look nice. Just, just ratchet strap.

Speaker 3701.58s - 702.62s

Just a minute, lads.

Speaker 5704.84s - 706s

That ain't going nowhere.

Speaker 3706.24s - 706.7s

Off you go.

Speaker 5707.38s - 708.74s

On the back.

Speaker 3709.04s - 709.56s

Off you pops.

Speaker 2710.06s - 711.1s

Oh my God.

Speaker 3711.14s - 715.76s

Well, I did not think that that was going to be our opening story.

Speaker 5716.14s - 718.24s

I'm sorry if you have to cut out of this.

Speaker 3718.6s - 719.6s

No, I'm sure it's fine.

Speaker 2719.6s - 720.22s

I'm quite happy to leave it in.

Speaker 5721.82s - 723.7s

As I say, I just...

Speaker 3723.7s - 726.32s

Could you say, would it not, You know, it would be a lot easier

Speaker 2726.32s - 728.42s

if you, you know, you cremned in first,

Speaker 5728.58s - 732.38s

then you could just fit the vase. That's true. Some could just sit in the passenger seat with them pop-in-law.

Speaker 2732.46s - 733.94s

Yeah. Even you could do that. Yeah.

Speaker 5734.68s - 737.86s

But, no, I think it's the getting to the crematorium

Speaker 2737.86s - 740s

was in his will. Bloody out.

Speaker 5740s - 741.52s

Well, you can't deny that.

Speaker 2742.08s - 747.28s

I bet that didn't throw up... I bet that didn't come up on a... What's it checked, did it? HPI. HPI check? No. Maybe what, deny that. I bet that didn't throw up, I bet that didn't come up on a what's it check, did it? HPI. HPI check.

Speaker 3747.86s - 749s

Maybe they should do that.

Speaker 4749.62s - 751.9s

Outstanding finance and really strange will requests.

Speaker 2752.24s - 752.54s

Yeah.

Speaker 3753.22s - 754.5s

Yes. Yeah.

Speaker 2754.82s - 760.52s

Well, if you, dear listener, have any experience in transporting the deceased,

Speaker 3760.72s - 765.8s

the recently deceased in the back of your vehicle. Podcast at Driven.com ORG.

Speaker 4766s - 768.06s

I love how we took that really seriously as well.

Speaker 3768.9s - 771.14s

That is, I just can't believe it.

Speaker 2771.2s - 771.58s

There we are.

Speaker 5771.82s - 775.52s

So I'll let you know that, I have no idea when the funeral is,

Speaker 2775.56s - 776.76s

but I imagine it's fairly soon.

Speaker 5776.76s - 777.38s

Well, I hope it's fairly soon.

Speaker 2777.44s - 778s

Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 5778.6s - 780.54s

Otherwise they're going to have to pay for a cleaning bill as well.

Speaker 3781.82s - 782.68s

We did have this.

Speaker 5782.68s - 783.38s

We had the phone call.

Speaker 3783.46s - 789.42s

Well, we'll have the phone call, I think, yeah, end of last week. of last week and so yeah it must be soon I don't know when though yeah I'm

Speaker 2789.42s - 793.32s

drastically trying to work out how I can fit this into a title of this podcast episode

Speaker 3793.32s - 800.56s

without it sounding a bit crass um more on that later the result of which you can now see

Speaker 2800.56s - 807.02s

because I've clearly thought of it but um at this point in time, at 14 minutes past two on a Thursday, I have no idea.

Speaker 3807.34s - 811.62s

Well, the thing is now, you kind of ruin this episode now, because every story after that

Speaker 5811.62s - 811.96s

is going to be wrong.

Speaker 2811.96s - 813.38s

Nothing else is worth discussing.

Speaker 5813.38s - 814.74s

They might as well just stop recording else.

Speaker 3815.04s - 815.74s

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 5816.92s - 822.84s

However, I will start with our usual typical question, and that is, what have we turned

Speaker 3822.84s - 824.98s

up to the office today in?

Speaker 5826.68s - 834.02s

Can I fit a dead body in the church i've just

Speaker 3834.02s - 837.62s

got to pop to commentary for a quick podcast yeah don't worry about it it's on the way

Speaker 0837.62s - 844.2s

miles just to spice things up and change things of uh you give us a new variety from every other

Speaker 1844.2s - 845.3s

episode what have you turned up in today?

Speaker 4845.38s - 847.42s

Yeah, I mean, just for a change, you've turned up in my three series.

Speaker 1847.42s - 848.44s

All right, that's good. Anyway.

Speaker 4849.2s - 851.48s

Amy Haynes PERSON, you've turned up in something.

Speaker 2851.74s - 855.26s

Yes, I've borrowed a mini-countryman, a new one, a very new one.

Speaker 4855.26s - 855.66s

New-new.

Speaker 3855.92s - 856.3s

New-new.

Speaker 4856.3s - 856.84s

Very new.

Speaker 3856.88s - 860.2s

So it's all the very high-tech one.

Speaker 2860.52s - 861.78s

I don't know if it's got a different name.

Speaker 3861.9s - 862.64s

I've not actually looked.

Speaker 5862.7s - 863.12s

So they do.

Speaker 3863.2s - 863.92s

I went on the launch.

Speaker 4864.16s - 866.5s

It's the three trim levels

Speaker 3866.5s - 867.32s

That makes sense

Speaker 4867.32s - 868.94s

I think yours is a C

Speaker 3868.94s - 870.34s

And that's kind of like

Speaker 2870.34s - 871.96s

The comfort every day

Speaker 5871.96s - 872.94s

It's very comfortable

Speaker 2872.94s - 874.58s

One point five

Speaker 5874.58s - 875.5s

Leaser ORG engine I think

Speaker 3875.5s - 876.94s

I've not been given any spec sheet

Speaker 5876.94s - 877.92s

Oh I thought it was delivered

Speaker 3877.92s - 879.46s

No no that one's it

Speaker 5879.46s - 880.04s

Oibrid

Speaker 3880.04s - 881.58s

And then the John Keeper Works

Speaker 5881.58s - 883.52s

is the kind of sporty top trim one

Speaker 3883.52s - 885s

Very stiff Very. Very stiff.

Speaker 5885.38s - 885.92s

Very stiff.

Speaker 3886s - 886.84s

Very stiff.

Speaker 5887.58s - 888.82s

We just went to go and look at it.

Speaker 3888.92s - 892.92s

I just stood next to it and it happens to be parked next to an A class Mercedes ORG.

Speaker 2892.92s - 894.34s

A class or B class one of those things.

Speaker 5894.34s - 895.58s

And it makes it look tiny.

Speaker 3895.74s - 896.4s

Yeah, it's a big car.

Speaker 2896.88s - 897.58s

It's like a vein.

Speaker 3898.16s - 899.08s

It's very, very large.

Speaker 5900.02s - 900.8s

Very comfortable.

Speaker 2901.32s - 906.22s

A little bit too techy for me. Not the fact that I'm not technical,

Speaker 5906.46s - 910.36s

because I'm fairly technical, but it's like, there's a couple of things that I would get frustrated, I think.

Speaker 0910.48s - 914.88s

But I like lots of the styling. From a photography point of view, really like it.

Speaker 5915.18s - 928.44s

It's very cool inside. But like one thing I mentioned to you guys outside, the indicators, when you're indicating, you haven't got a thing in front of you on the heads up display, or any form of dash directly in front of you to show which you know to make sure that I am indicating so you have

Speaker 3928.44s - 933.14s

to look to your left on the big screen to you left has got a little head up display thing hasn't it

Speaker 5933.14s - 938.86s

but the indicators aren't there no the only thing that's on there is your speed and if you change a

Speaker 3938.86s - 943.06s

song I've noticed it comes up from there so that's it very important information the two things yeah

Speaker 5943.06s - 946.42s

I mean the speed bit I get but yes I definitely want to see that in my direct eye line

Speaker 3946.42s - 948.12s

when I've skipped to the next share track.

Speaker 2948.22s - 949.92s

Yeah, no, I could do just sing a little tiny,

Speaker 5950.02s - 951.84s

bling, bling, bling, bling, when I'm indicating.

Speaker 3952.2s - 952.52s

Yeah.

Speaker 5952.94s - 953.42s

But that's it.

Speaker 3953.72s - 957.5s

I've only driven it about 30 miles, though, so I've not had enough to play with yet.

Speaker 5958.06s - 963.44s

The only car in the world to have a round OLED screen.

Speaker 3964.02s - 964.38s

Really?

Speaker 5964.52s - 964.98s

Fun fact.

Speaker 3965.52s - 968.88s

Yeah. Apparently nobody else has done it. So it's the first one ever. Well, I suppose your technical. in the world to have a round OLED screen. Really? Fun fact for you? Apparently nobody else has done it. So it's the first one ever.

Speaker 5970.06s - 973.7s

Well, I suppose you're technically, if you're thinking about a circle versus a, for example, rectangle,

Speaker 4975.44s - 976.48s

you're missing a lot of space on the corners that you could be utilising.

Speaker 3976.98s - 977.12s

Yeah.

Speaker 4977.26s - 978.92s

And all the apps are very square.

Speaker 5979.02s - 980.62s

So like I put Apple ORG CarPlay on.

Speaker 4981.24s - 982.78s

And it's a square in the circle.

Speaker 5983.32s - 983.64s

Yeah.

Speaker 2983.82s - 984.62s

So I can understand.

Speaker 4984.76s - 985.9s

But at the same time, I really like

Speaker 5985.9s - 987.92s

that it's a nod to the original mini PRODUCT of the

Speaker 2987.92s - 989.66s

centre dial. We do like that.

Speaker 5989.86s - 995.8s

I do like that. So not mad about that. As in like, I'm not actually disappointed. I like that. I have to say.

Speaker 2996.8s - 999.78s

It's crossed my mind

Speaker 5999.78s - 1001.34s

recently. I've been thinking about

Speaker 21001.34s - 1004.2s

like a cheapish car

Speaker 41004.2s - 1005.46s

that would be good fun.

Speaker 51005.7s - 1011.58s

Oh, yeah. And I keep looking at the supercharged mini PRODUCT-Cupress. Yes. I keep looking at those thinking,

Speaker 41011.98s - 1016.86s

when they came out, I thought they were great. They are. I mean, there's still a lot of them on the road,

Speaker 31016.94s - 1022.52s

which to me kind of indicates that they're probably quite good. Yeah. I've driven a range of minis.

Speaker 51022.6s - 1030.28s

I've worked with many for years And everything I've driven of theirs I've really really liked Even when I first got to live My very first countryman And I was like absolutely not going to be interested in this

Speaker 41030.28s - 1031.94s

Admittedly it was a John Cooper Works

Speaker 01031.94s - 1035.62s

And then I got in it, loved it Within a week I was like yes, like this a lot

Speaker 51035.62s - 1041.76s

So the only one I wasn't sure about was the electric But that was just because the electric hassle Yeah

Speaker 21041.76s - 1046.8s

But no, 10 out 10 Would recommend There we are Strong, thinking about it John Marka hassle. Yeah. But no, 10 out 10 would recommend. There we are.

Speaker 51046.96s - 1047.34s

Strong.

Speaker 21047.64s - 1048.34s

Thinking about it.

Speaker 51048.78s - 1049.2s

John Marker PERSON.

Speaker 21049.3s - 1051.78s

Yes, John Marker PERSON. Yeah, sorry, Miles PERSON. No, no, no, no.

Speaker 31052.06s - 1055.28s

This is what we do. It's okay. There's plenty of me to go around, guys.

Speaker 51055.64s - 1066.54s

Don't need to fight. I turned up in a B.YD. Seal 3.8S. Good grief. And what does BYD ORG stand for? It's not build your Dreams. I said it was

Speaker 21066.54s - 1070.04s

build your dreams, didn't I? And I got that completely wrong. No, you said it was something like

Speaker 31070.04s - 1076.72s

Beyond Your Dreams. Beyond your dreams. Build Your Dreams PRODUCT is the kind of modern namesake

Speaker 21076.72s - 1082.5s

that has been awarded to BYD ORG, but it never stood for that. No. It's actually a breakdown of

Speaker 51082.5s - 1086.38s

the word B.RD, which is a Chinese NORP word for the car manufacturer.

Speaker 41087.04s - 1092.22s

And they just decided, well, BRD in English LANGUAGE is a bit of a B, a bit of a Y, a bit of a D.

Speaker 51092.7s - 1093.26s

So they've gone with that.

Speaker 31093.32s - 1111.62s

And then it was a, they called it, there's a special name for it. They call it a retro tag or something where they basically take the acronym and say, oh, well, let's make it stand for something English LANGUAGE. And there's somebody in a marketing department somewhere went, build your dreams. That's not terrible, is it? And then they went with that. But it turns out it is, and they don't use it anymore.

Speaker 41111.78s - 1112.14s

Okay.

Speaker 31112.54s - 1113.26s

So it's just B.D.

Speaker 21113.26s - 1114.9s

So it's just BYD. B.D. Okay.

Speaker 31115.06s - 1137.96s

B.D. Seal, it is a electric car. It is impeccably fast. It is surprisingly good handling. But beyond that, it is just another EV. And it's quite difficult for me to get excited about it individually as one. The big competitor is the Tesla Model 3 PRODUCT, which is about the same sort of size, although this B.YD PRODUCT is slightly more expensive.

Speaker 41138.68s - 1147.54s

And I'd say some of the interior trim fit and finish is better than the Tesla ORG. So I can see why they are, or certainly

Speaker 01147.54s - 1151.48s

they certainly were towards the end of last year. They were outselling Tesla ORG as a brand.

Speaker 31151.72s - 1155.76s

And I can kind of understand why. So yeah. But there's big things to come from this brand.

Speaker 41155.94s - 1159.98s

They've got apparently in the next 12 months or so eight cars launching. Good Christ.

Speaker 31160.18s - 1164.18s

So really? Eight. That's a lot. Yeah. That's more than Taylor Swift now on months.

Speaker 21164.5s - 1165.06s

Exactly. And ex-boyfriends. And ex-boyfriends. Yeah. So a lot. That's more than Taylor Swift PERSON now on ones. Exactly.

Speaker 51165.58s - 1166.52s

And ex-boyfriends.

Speaker 21166.74s - 1167.6s

And ex-boyfriends.

Speaker 51168.32s - 1170.92s

So, yeah, it's an interesting thing.

Speaker 41171.04s - 1173.52s

I mean, we might be using it tomorrow.

Speaker 51173.64s - 1175.28s

You and I, Amy PERSON, to go record the podcast.

Speaker 31175.28s - 1175.58s

I didn't realize it's electric.

Speaker 51175.76s - 1176.4s

Not that I'm at all.

Speaker 21176.4s - 1177.68s

Yeah, no, full EV.

Speaker 51178.24s - 1178.78s

Full easy.

Speaker 31178.78s - 1179.52s

So what is the Rangers PRODUCT?

Speaker 51179.62s - 1180.86s

We have got to go quite far.

Speaker 31181.24s - 1184.66s

It's, in this one, it's 323 miles, best case scenario.

Speaker 51185.44s - 1188.76s

If you get the, so this is the all-wheel drive sporty one.

Speaker 31188.88s - 1221.66s

If you get the less sporty one, rear-wheel drive only, it's slightly better range, but not that much better. It's 354 miles. And likewise, with the pricing, so this one is £48,000. If you get the slightly better range one, it's only 46. So you're like, well, you're not really gaining that much in terms of mileage. So you might as well just spend the extra money, you get the fast one. But yeah, I'd be genuinely intrigued to see what you think of it. Okay. It's an interesting thing. Interesting thing. Anyway, moving on.

Speaker 21223.7s - 1225.4s

There have been lots of press cars recently.

Speaker 41225.52s - 1229.86s

We'll go through the list of other press cars and exciting cars we've been driving individually later,

Speaker 31229.96s - 1249.6s

but we should probably start with the news that Miles Lacey over here has ticked off his first press car for driven. We spoke about it, I think, in our very last episode of the Driven Chat ORG podcast, the old format, and you said, oh, I really hope I book in a Audi RS6 PRODUCT. And you've been driving a Audi RS6.

Speaker 21250.12s - 1251.64s

Isn't it great when the system works?

Speaker 31251.76s - 1256.88s

Yeah, I know. It was amazing. It's more specifically the performance, AudiR6 PRODUCT, Avant

Speaker 21256.88s - 1260.84s

Performance. Yeah. It's a rocket ship, isn't it?

Speaker 31261.28s - 1268.96s

Yeah. Fast car. I didn't actually go for a drive with it. No, you didn't. It was one of those things. We had it for a week and it was like, oh yeah, that's all the time

Speaker 21268.96s - 1274.76s

in the world. It never is, is it? No. Yeah, Audi ORG dropped it off and it immediately looked,

Speaker 31275.16s - 1280.22s

the guy that dropped it off described it as battleship grey. Yes, it's Nardo PRODUCT grey.

Speaker 21280.22s - 1287.8s

It's the colour. But it looks, it's got that presence of a battleship that's ready to go and, you know, do war.

Speaker 31288.7s - 1289.92s

It's a very impressive thing.

Speaker 21290.1s - 1295.2s

I had it for a week. I did about 900 miles in it, something like that, 8,900 miles. Hence the fuel bill.

Speaker 31296.24s - 1298.06s

Yes. How much did you spend on fuel?

Speaker 21298.3s - 1298.72s

A lot.

Speaker 31300.56s - 1304.06s

About, oh, that was about 300. It was about 300. Was it really?

Speaker 21304.22s - 1305.52s

No, it was 270. 270. it really? No, it's been 270, 270.

Speaker 31305.64s - 1305.82s

Yeah.

Speaker 21305.94s - 1306.54s

There's a lot of money.

Speaker 31308.16s - 1313.08s

But one of those cars, I'd really wanted to drive for quite some time.

Speaker 21313.8s - 1316.56s

Not because it's not new or anything like that, it's been around a while.

Speaker 41316.76s - 1321.82s

The performance is what's taken over the current outgoing car, so the performance is a standard car now.

Speaker 31322.02s - 1323.54s

So it's got all the tech on it, all the toys.

Speaker 41324.42s - 1327.64s

And it's just a very, very complete, awesome bit of kit.

Speaker 31328.56s - 1330.04s

It's just a lot of money.

Speaker 21330.2s - 1332.84s

Yeah, so I have actually forgotten how much it is.

Speaker 31333.24s - 1334s

Has it a yes?

Speaker 21336s - 1337.84s

In my head, I want it to be like £100,000,

Speaker 01338.26s - 1341.08s

which for an estate car seems like an awful lot of money,

Speaker 21341.16s - 1343.36s

but then actually in real time it's not,

Speaker 31343.36s - 1354.64s

because that's basically a five series now, as we discussed with Dan Prosser in next week's episode um go on hundred and so this one

Speaker 21354.64s - 1363s

admittedly had a few toys on it this one was 140,000 pounds and and nine thousand of those

Speaker 31363s - 1365.24s

pounds was on the carbon ceramic brakes.

Speaker 21366.98s - 1367.08s

9,000 pounds.

Speaker 31367.86s - 1368.08s

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 21370.98s - 1371.24s

And the rest of it was just because it's expensive.

Speaker 41372.62s - 1373.32s

How do you find the carbon stront brakes?

Speaker 21377.5s - 1378.1s

I actually brought this up because they're amazing.

Speaker 51381s - 1381.48s

It's a big heavy car and needs big brakes, so they're great.

Speaker 21384.42s - 1388.98s

However, the one thing I did find is if you're driving on a wet road and you don't touch the brakes for a while, when you do touch the brakes, there's no

Speaker 51388.98s - 1393.1s

friction whatsoever. So it feels like you're just pressing really, really hard into the bulkhead

Speaker 21393.1s - 1396.78s

and the car doesn't slow down. Really? Do you have to do a dab on off, back on again? Yeah.

Speaker 41397.34s - 1402.72s

And I found that a bit disconcerting at times. As ex-Bentley Vehicle Dynamics Engineer ORG,

Speaker 21403s - 1406.64s

yes. Would you say for somebody wanting to buy a performance car,

Speaker 31406.72s - 1408.02s

because I genuinely don't know the answer to this,

Speaker 21408.08s - 1409.6s

and I often talk about this in the pub,

Speaker 31410.74s - 1413.16s

carbon ceramic brakes seems to be a big aftermarket option,

Speaker 21413.2s - 1415.42s

as you say, £9,000 option now on the RS6 PRODUCT.

Speaker 31415.5s - 1417.04s

If you were buying it with your money,

Speaker 01417.1s - 1419.6s

if you had that money in the bank to go and buy yourself a new RS6

Speaker 21419.6s - 1422.24s

and you weren't doing a tractor every weekend,

Speaker 31422.54s - 1426.1s

would you bother putting carbon ceramics on your roadcar? Nope. Right.

Speaker 51426.4s - 1427.82s

I have to go miles on this. Yeah.

Speaker 31427.9s - 1431.18s

Because we borrowed a Bentley Continental GTS PRODUCT recently.

Speaker 21432.08s - 1433.44s

Also had the carbon ceramic brakes,

Speaker 31433.48s - 1434.2s

and that's why I was asking,

Speaker 21434.34s - 1437.8s

because when you're driving it nicely,

Speaker 31438.04s - 1439.42s

then you think, yep, these are great.

Speaker 51440.1s - 1445.32s

When you're going through traffic and kind of like stop-start, it's a bit... They're squealy as well? No, they weren't squealy at like stop, start, it's a bit.

Speaker 31446.42s - 1446.8s

They're squealy as well?

Speaker 51448.16s - 1448.22s

No, they weren't squealy at all, actually.

Speaker 31449.64s - 1451s

They were just a bit jerky. A bit on or off.

Speaker 41452.16s - 1452.26s

Yeah, very on or off.

Speaker 51455.76s - 1459.74s

And so, like, I was taking a lot of pictures, so Will PERSON was driving a lot. And the amount of times I got not flung forwards into the dash, but I was like, oh, I see.

Speaker 31459.74s - 1460s

Oh, I see.

Speaker 51460s - 1460.74s

Hell, man, are you okay?

Speaker 31460.84s - 1463.7s

And he said, is these breaks? Drivel a car before me. Yeah.

Speaker 51464.96s - 1471.36s

So, yeah, but no, that no that was like like I think they're awesome when you're as you said when you're driving but I probably wouldn't have them as a

Speaker 21471.36s - 1489.5s

daily and again I don't know that if that argument even stands of if you drive them on a if you drive the car on a track regularly because you're still going to go through pads and the pads are really expensive so if you're going to use a car like thaton the track what most people tend to do is actually bin them, if you were going to use a car like that on the track, what most people tend to do is actually bin them off anyway and just put a really good set of steals on.

Speaker 31489.5s - 1511.8s

Well, that's it. I'm sure I remember our good friend, our good friend, Al Clark PERSON, in his GT3, he's got 911 GT3 PRODUCT, 996, which I think came with ceramics. And then he decided at the point of doing a big service, he didn't want to pay I'm sure thebill I'm sure from memory it was something like 14 grand for a set of carbon ceramic discs

Speaker 41511.8s - 1521.78s

so obviously he's just like well I'm not going to do that I'm going to put steels on but yeah I just that's the reason I ask because I loads of people go crazy about oh I've got carbon ceramics on my

Speaker 11521.78s - 1527.64s

car and I never really work out what the best it is because if you can get get them hot, they crack. Eventually, you're going to have to replace them.

Speaker 31527.8s - 1533.84s

They're going to be the price of a small hatchback when you do need to replace them. What's the point?

Speaker 21534s - 1539.84s

I just think it's a thing to talk about, isn't it? As good as they are. But yeah, I personally wouldn't

Speaker 31539.84s - 1586s

go for them, I don't feel like the car. Is it weight? Is that what it is? Yeah. So you do, there's a, there's, in the boring world of chassis dynamics, there's less unsprung mass. Yes. All that kind of stuff. So per wheel, it doesn't weigh as much. But again, are you going to notice that as a normal driver on the road?Probably not. The list goes on. But, yeah, obviously go to the website or watch the YouTube channel for the full review, but I was very, very, very impressed by the car in many ways. Good. Yes, do that.We have Miles PERSON' debut on the YouTube channel. Go and have a look at the engineer's analysis of the RS6 PRODUCT. And a, if not there already, very soon will be a written article as well. With some beautiful photos from our Henry PRODUCT. Yeah. He's good, in he. He's all right. photos from our Henry PRODUCT. He's good in he.

Speaker 41586.02s - 1587.16s

He's all right. He's all right.

Speaker 31587.62s - 1595.74s

He's a lot cheaper than Amy PERSON over there. If you're listening, Henry PRODUCT, you're plenty expensive. Yeah.

Speaker 41596.22s - 1597.18s

Please don't put your rates up.

Speaker 31600.12s - 1616.74s

Now, last week's episode was the Goodwood Members Meeting ORG and sounds of Goodwood Members Meeting. You would have heard if you listened, dear listener, the voices of myself and Amy Haynes PERSON. Amy PERSON admittedly only for the very opening and the very closing of the episode because you were flat out busy doing what you were there to do.

Speaker 01616.86s - 1622.46s

Take photos for Goodwood ORG. We closed off our episode by complaining, basically like two old people.

Speaker 41622.58s - 1629.86s

We're complaining about how our backs ate, legs ate, how sore our feet were. I did pick up on that. Because we, I think, well, a lot of

Speaker 31629.86s - 1652.16s

people don't understand. If you are a consumer, I guess if you go to events like Goodwood ORG, any motorsport event, especially if it's a weekend event, you're there for two or three days, you will appreciate that there is quite a lot of time on your feet, walking around, often in not the most comfortable shoes. And, yeah, we bore the brunt of that. How quickly or have your feet recover yet from the experience?

Speaker 51652.26s - 1656.64s

They have finally, but only to the point now I've just been able to wear the same shoes that I wore over that weekend.

Speaker 01656.84s - 1657.44s

Oh, no.

Speaker 31658.2s - 1659.56s

But like my feet were throbbing.

Speaker 51659.66s - 1663.34s

Actually throbbing. You know when you wake up and you can still feel your feet throbbing?

Speaker 01663.44s - 1669.9s

It was like that for at least three days. So yeah, more like 17 miles and did a 27 hour shift

Speaker 41669.9s - 1674.92s

over the two days basically. And you don't really sleep very well. So you've got like 12 hours

Speaker 01674.92s - 1678.82s

sleep for the whole weekend. So I was tired. It's a long old day. It's a long old weekend,

Speaker 41678.9s - 1683.78s

isn't it? But we survived. Yes. But it's awesome because the racing is completely different to what

Speaker 31683.78s - 1685.22s

you will have seen over the last few years.

Speaker 51685.58s - 1689.02s

Apart from the members meetings, only been going for the last eight years.

Speaker 31690.32s - 1692.44s

So really, really cool event to go to.

Speaker 51692.56s - 1698.1s

Really quite empty, but in a good way, not like where is everybody empty, but like I can actually watch some racing empty.

Speaker 01698.3s - 1698.58s

Yes.

Speaker 31699.5s - 1702.18s

Wicked cars every year and good mix.

Speaker 41702.32s - 1704.58s

Good cars, good sounds, good people, yes.

Speaker 51704.58s - 1710.28s

So thank you for everyone that's taking the moment to leave nice comments and send nice messages about last week's episode.

Speaker 41710.38s - 1712.02s

Because, yeah, those ones are a schlep.

Speaker 31712.12s - 1712.74s

They really are.

Speaker 51712.74s - 1714.68s

But we know people like them.

Speaker 31714.76s - 1715.44s

So that's why we do them.

Speaker 51715.64s - 1715.76s

Cool.

Speaker 21716.24s - 1721.78s

Can you just for a moment try and explain how good the Canam ORG cars were?

Speaker 31722.52s - 1723.04s

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 21723.14s - 1728.46s

Because they, even on the podcast, they came across extremely loud.

Speaker 51728.86s - 1730.4s

So with a quick, sorry, quick question.

Speaker 21730.54s - 1748.38s

So one of my things I had to photograph Four Goodwood because I was For Goodwood was the Canam Cars PRODUCT. And I realised I knew nothing about Canam Cars ORG. So I spoke to my lovely husband and he was under the impression and I want to know if this is true and I don't know if there's any more information you can give me. That Canam Cars ORG are basically racing without rules. They just had to have two seats.

Speaker 31749.2s - 1756.04s

I think, yeah, pretty much. There were very few guidelines to it. It was very, very rock and roll of the era.

Speaker 01757.28s - 1761.72s

Yeah, the Canadian NORP-American championship of let's put the best drivers in the world

Speaker 51761.72s - 1763.36s

because James Hunt PERSON had a drive.

Speaker 01763.84s - 1767.78s

There were like big F-1 PRODUCT drivers, and the cars were utterly bizarre.

Speaker 31768s - 1778.56s

And even just walking around the paddock, there were cars with like double wheel front axles, tiny, tiny little eight-inch tires on these things, racing against other cars that had like bigger tires,

Speaker 01778.66s - 1798.86s

and some were V8 flat plane crank, and some had trumpet. You see the Lotus ORG, I know that was a bit more of a prop, wasn't it from Lotus? But Lotus ORG had that gorgeous one with, it looked like a work of art with the induction trumpets coming out on the top of it. Just amazing. But yes, I think that's pretty much right. And I'm sure there will be people shouting at their speakers and headphones right now go, oh, actually there's more to it than that.

Speaker 21799.36s - 1806.38s

But it drew, as you say, it drew some impressive drivers and some engineers that we now know to be extremely

Speaker 41806.38s - 1811.56s

famous and very well established. Adrian Nui cut his teeth on Canham ORG cars way back when.

Speaker 31811.82s - 1817s

He would go out to America to do those regularly. I know this because I've just finished reading Adrian Nui's PERSON book.

Speaker 41817.5s - 1823s

Is it what's called? How to Build a Car? How to Go to a Race Car. It's quite an in-depth read,

Speaker 21823s - 1826.32s

but it's definitely shone a bit of light on him.

Speaker 41826.32s - 1832.2s

Do you need to be like engineering-minded to appreciate it, or do you think a Luddite NORP like me might get it?

Speaker 51832.3s - 1833.14s

Yeah, no, you would.

Speaker 21833.34s - 1833.72s

You would.

Speaker 31834.04s - 1836.2s

There's parts of it where it does get a bit nerdy.

Speaker 21836.4s - 1840.9s

Okay. Which I guess you'd need to have, because most people buying it, perhaps buying it because of you.

Speaker 31841.48s - 1843.44s

But yeah, back to the Canem PRODUCT stuff.

Speaker 21843.6s - 1845.72s

Yeah, it was actually, they were quite advanced for the time.

Speaker 31845.8s - 1847.56s

They had like active aero and all sorts of stuff.

Speaker 21847.68s - 1848.06s

Yes.

Speaker 31848.22s - 1851.46s

But they look just like massive engines with some bodywork on top.

Speaker 21851.62s - 1851.78s

Yeah.

Speaker 31851.92s - 1852.12s

Yeah.

Speaker 21852.24s - 1852.82s

There was one.

Speaker 41852.88s - 1854.58s

I don't know which model it was, but there was a...

Speaker 31854.58s - 1856.12s

I'm sure you saw it black.

Speaker 41856.52s - 1857.6s

And there was no seat.

Speaker 51858.32s - 1861.36s

There was no seat in it of any description.

Speaker 41861.54s - 1863.12s

And I thought, well, maybe the seat gets fitted later,

Speaker 51863.22s - 1864.68s

but it just turns out there was no seat.

Speaker 31865.02s - 1869.72s

And the driver, it basically just sits on top of where a seat would probably be?

Speaker 51869.9s - 1874.38s

Yes, and was it like it looked as if his legs would be touching the very, very front note?

Speaker 31874.38s - 1879.4s

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I saw that and I thought, I would not want to go into a wall with that. No, God, no, no, yeah.

Speaker 51879.76s - 1881.1s

But, yeah, very loud.

Speaker 31881.22s - 1901.12s

I was terrified, as you probably heard in the podcast, that the sound of them was going to destroy either the microphone I was using or my podcast recording device, because it was so loud. I had earplugs on and noise-canceling headphones, and I'm trying to monitor the audio through my headphones with ear defenders on.

Speaker 11901.34s - 1905.6s

And even then, I'm still feeling like I'm probably still damaging my ears somehow.

Speaker 51905.8s - 1908.16s

We were told in the morning that when we were photographing it,

Speaker 31908.28s - 1911.42s

earplugs were not a request, but you had to wear them

Speaker 51911.42s - 1912.86s

because they were that loud.

Speaker 31913.42s - 1915.32s

So, yeah, but they made for great photographs

Speaker 01915.32s - 1916.54s

because loads of people were plugging their ears.

Speaker 51916.78s - 1919.54s

But you could tell who was deaf in the crowd because they just...

Speaker 31919.54s - 1923.08s

Just smiling. Just smiling, take the tape photos in the ipring.

Speaker 41924.52s - 1925.94s

I'm sure they used to be louder.

Speaker 31926.84s - 1927.86s

Honestly, it's all old people.

Speaker 51930.5s - 1931.84s

Protect your ears, people.

Speaker 31931.94s - 1932.46s

It's important.

Speaker 51932.58s - 1933.22s

It is important.

Speaker 31934.62s - 1935.44s

So yes, Goodwood ORG.

Speaker 51935.68s - 1936.08s

Very good.

Speaker 31936.12s - 1937.84s

And the photos are, can we see them?

Speaker 51937.9s - 1938.72s

Where can people go?

Speaker 31938.8s - 1940.18s

If they want to look at your amazing photos.

Speaker 51940.18s - 1944.8s

I've just started trickling them on to Instagram ORG. I don't usually bum bar on Instagram ORG too much. But yeah, I've put a couple of posts on there.

Speaker 21944.8s - 1945.66s

There's some nice ones there.

Speaker 31945.78s - 1947.92s

It's of the Cannam PRODUCT, I've called it Cannam Cockpix

Speaker 51947.92s - 1950.04s

because it's just, I literally shove my arm up in the air

Speaker 21950.04s - 1951.4s

and just photographed down into the,

Speaker 31951.68s - 1957.42s

because you can see every one of the drivers and all these different liveries look really cool. So. Yeah, some of the sponsors were brilliant.

Speaker 51957.72s - 1964.14s

Just, yeah, really, really cool to see that. And these cars, I said this in last week's episode as well, but these cars are staying here in the UK

Speaker 21964.14s - 1964.7s

Oh yeah.

Speaker 31964.94s - 1966.88s

Up until the Goodwood Festival of Speed

Speaker 21966.88s - 1980.68s

where they'll all be going up the hill. That's epic. So they've come over here for the Goodwood Revival EVENT, sorry, the Goodwood Members Meeting, and they'll be staying for the Festival of Speed EVENT, and only then will they go back to the Americas LOC?Can you imagine the sound of those things starting up?

Speaker 31981.44s - 1988.46s

It's going to be amazing. Yeah, if you're heading to the Festival of Speed EVENT, just make sure you work through the programme to see,

Speaker 01989.08s - 1993.66s

just get anywhere near either the start or halfway up the hill to hear them ripping past,

Speaker 21993.74s - 1997.32s

because it's going to be incredible. And take some earplugs for goodness sake.

Speaker 31998.44s - 1999.78s

Question for you, both.

Speaker 21999.92s - 2009.26s

Yes. Members meeting. Yes. Was there a pick of car that stood out to you? One car? One single car.

Speaker 12009.76s - 2011.42s

And I know there was plenty.

Speaker 52012.2s - 2013.86s

I'm going to have to look around the paddocks in my own brain.

Speaker 22014.72s - 2017.62s

Because normally you come away and go, oh yeah, that's the one.

Speaker 32017.62s - 2020.32s

I don't know if there was one in particular for me.

Speaker 52020.46s - 2027.94s

There were a few really cool stories that I spoke to Olly Webb PERSON, and he was driving a Mustang in the Ken Miles Cup PRODUCT.

Speaker 32028.38s - 2035.1s

But something like eight, nine weeks ago was a little old lady's daily driver in California that had been converted.

Speaker 02035.3s - 2044.92s

So there are loads of like really cool cars like that. I don't really think there was anything that I took away from the weekend going, I'm so glad I saw that.

Speaker 32045.64s - 2047.04s

I don't know if you had anything.

Speaker 52047.04s - 2051.46s

No, I suppose I'm so glad I saw the Can I'm Supposed of Set PRODUCT,

Speaker 32051.58s - 2053.7s

just because I've never seen them before.

Speaker 02053.88s - 2054.64s

And that was quite cool.

Speaker 32054.8s - 2058.5s

But, I mean, in terms of, again, I go on what my person preferences and visuals.

Speaker 02058.74s - 2061.52s

So the very, very, very last race at the Sunday night was,

Speaker 32061.58s - 2065.18s

I can't remember what it's called, but itice. All your, was the Gordon Spice?

Speaker 02065.44s - 2067.92s

Yeah, the owners drive.

Speaker 52068.1s - 2071.04s

With the Caprize, the UFO jeans, five suit.

Speaker 42071.12s - 2072.4s

No, D-Type, C-ty.

Speaker 32073.84s - 2074.86s

Yes, that was the one before.

Speaker 42074.98s - 2075.94s

I can't think what it's called, but yes.

Speaker 22075.94s - 2076.14s

I can't remember.

Speaker 42076.2s - 2077.98s

Yeah, that was one of my favourite, just because it was.

Speaker 22078.16s - 2079.24s

You do like a jack, don't you?

Speaker 52079.24s - 2080.16s

Yeah, I do like a Jack PRODUCT, yeah.

Speaker 32080.3s - 2081.42s

So, just personal interest.

Speaker 52081.62s - 2082.38s

So that was really cool.

Speaker 32082.44s - 2086.46s

And also there's like a pastel yellow D- that I'd never seen before, short nice D.

Speaker 52087.34s - 2088.26s

Yeah, cool.

Speaker 22088.62s - 2089.62s

But I like some of the shots from that.

Speaker 52090.04s - 2090.56s

Very good.

Speaker 22090.9s - 2104.8s

Very good. I have a small anecdote. Oh. Olly Webb, you just mentioned, of the Mustang PRODUCT. Yes. I'd just got back from...No, I was just about to leave for India GPE. Ah, that was my next point, yes.

Speaker 52104.8s - 2106.18s

It's going to open us up for the next conversation.

Speaker 22106.32s - 2106.7s

Indeed.

Speaker 42106.92s - 2110.44s

And I got a call from Mr. Olly Webb PERSON.

Speaker 22110.56s - 2121.12s

And it was like, you know the, you know, like you said before, when you're at a Metallica ORG concert and someone goes, what's his name? James Hetfield. Yeah. He's broken his finger.

Speaker 32121.64s - 2122.9s

Does anyone know here?

Speaker 22122.9s - 2126.86s

Does anyone not to play the guitar? Literally. And you're like, that's me.

Speaker 32127.88s - 2129.38s

I got a call and he said,

Speaker 22129.78s - 2136.42s

can you get yourself to Brand's Hatch in like less than an hour and a half? Because that very Mustang PRODUCT needs to be shaken down and I need to get on a plane.

Speaker 42136.86s - 2137.68s

And I was like,

Speaker 22137.8s - 2139.78s

like already keys in the ignition.

Speaker 42139.88s - 2146.32s

Like, got to go? Couldn't get there in time. No. Couldn't get there in time. Say someone else, pipped me to the post.Oh, I know.

Speaker 52146.62s - 2150.56s

Was it like a race? Did you have to go from Milton Keyes FAC and then you got the call saying somebody's already here?

Speaker 22150.9s - 2162.02s

It was, yeah. It was literally, it needed to be shaken down. I don't know what the circumstances were, but it would have involved me turning up and driving a glorious Mustang around Brand ORG's hatch. But it didn't happen.

Speaker 42162.68s - 2165.92s

So, Olly PERSON, if you're listening, I'm ready for the next one.

Speaker 22166.08s - 2166.26s

Yeah.

Speaker 42166.54s - 2168.08s

Just make sure it happens at Silverstone ORG next time.

Speaker 22169.2s - 2170.76s

Just a little bit more head time.

Speaker 32170.96s - 2171.12s

Yeah.

Speaker 52171.26s - 2171.66s

That'd be good.

Speaker 32171.96s - 2174.36s

So you were saying about, yeah, India GPE.

Speaker 22175.34s - 2178.62s

So, yeah, the point I've listed this out as a schedule in our notes,

Speaker 32178.72s - 2183.14s

because Amy and I, whilst we were destroying our feet and lower backs around Goodwood ORG,

Speaker 22183.78s - 2186.1s

Miles was sitting in traffic jams in India GPE. I got a call, what was it, a week or so before? I can't join you around Goodwood, Miles was sitting in traffic jams in India.

Speaker 32187.02s - 2188.44s

I got a call, what was it, a week or so before,

Speaker 52188.48s - 2190.86s

I can't join you at Goodwood sadly because I'm going to India GPE.

Speaker 32190.96s - 2193.8s

Yeah, so I obviously traditionally would have joined you

Speaker 52193.8s - 2195.66s

to co-host at the members' meeting.

Speaker 32196.76s - 2198.58s

But I got the call to go to Mumbai GPE.

Speaker 22199.44s - 2200.7s

I've always wanted to go to Mumbai GPE.

Speaker 42200.86s - 2201.28s

How was it?

Speaker 22202.24s - 2203.3s

It was bizarre.

Speaker 42203.52s - 2203.88s

Okay.

Speaker 22204.34s - 2205.24s

Have you been to India GPE before?

Speaker 52205.48s - 2206.44s

I've been to India GPE before.

Speaker 22206.84s - 2208.52s

I've been to Bangalore GPE.

Speaker 52208.88s - 2210.76s

And I've also been to Bangalore GPE.

Speaker 22211.56s - 2213.9s

I've also been to Sri Lanka, but that was for a holiday.

Speaker 52214.76s - 2215.5s

But Mumbai GPE.

Speaker 42215.96s - 2223.76s

So we flew into Mumbai GPE and we latterly found out that none of the shoot was in Mumbai whatsoever.

Speaker 22223.76s - 2228.64s

We had to get in a car and drive four and a half hours to Puna GPE.

Speaker 42228.94s - 2229.26s

Okay.

Speaker 22229.48s - 2229.76s

Yes.

Speaker 52230.02s - 2230.8s

I don't know where that is.

Speaker 22231.34s - 2234.56s

Puna GPE is sort of that way.

Speaker 52235.68s - 2237.18s

Whilst is pointing to his right.

Speaker 22237.44s - 2237.72s

Yes.

Speaker 32238.48s - 2239.28s

Left, left.

Speaker 22239.44s - 2241.52s

People that can't see what we're doing.

Speaker 32241.64s - 2242.4s

It's that way.

Speaker 22243.62s - 2245.44s

I suppose it would have to be left, otherwise you're in the sea.

Speaker 32245.52s - 2246.16s

Indeed, yeah.

Speaker 22246.34s - 2247.36s

So there's a long enough drive,

Speaker 32247.48s - 2252.06s

but we had a driver called Ankit PERSON. And he, can I just say,

Speaker 22252.26s - 2266.42s

if he came over to here to race in the British Touring Car Championship EVENT, he would win. Brilliant. He would win 100% because they're just fearless, absolutely fearless. I mean, bear in mind it's one of the most overpopulated countries globally.

Speaker 32266.58s - 2269s

I think the most populated, yeah.

Speaker 22269.42s - 2273.46s

There's just people and things and stuff happening all the time everywhere.

Speaker 32274.3s - 2284.12s

And that includes on the road. So you could have a seven, which they often are, a seven lane wide motorway, each side. Seven lanes. Right.

Speaker 22284.46s - 2288.7s

With road markings that mean absolutely nothing to know one.

Speaker 42288.92s - 2291.68s

Because basically if there's a gap, people go for it.

Speaker 22292.12s - 2299.54s

And all you hear constantly is horns because that is the law to put, basically press your horn to say, I'm here, don't crash into me.

Speaker 32299.66s - 2300.42s

Yes, it means everything.

Speaker 22300.52s - 2339.3s

It means I want to come past. I'm not coming past. I'm beside you. I'm behind you. I'm in front of you. I am here. Yeah. Yeah. And basically that means if you've pressed your horn, you can do whatever you want to the point where we were on the equivalent of we were going,we'd finish the shoot at this point. We were going back to Mumbai GPE. And we're on what would be the equivalent of our main motorway in the UK, which is the M1 FAC. And our driver took the wrong turning, went off the slip road too soon. And he went, hmm, a bit of a long way around to loop round. I'll just do a U-turn on the motorway. Oh, of course.Yeah.

Speaker 02340.92s - 2342.74s

So then I've got a video of it. Maybe I could post it on our social.

Speaker 22344.96s - 2349.06s

They're driving against the traffic. And there's four of us in a Suzuki ORG, like, you know, SUV type thing going,

Speaker 02349.26s - 2350.54s

oh my God.

Speaker 22351.14s - 2361.7s

But that was nothing because later down the line, the same bit of road, there was a whole family on a motorbike at night with no lights on coming the wrong way up the motorway.

Speaker 42362.22s - 2369s

I mean, it's no wonder that so many people, you know, snuff it there because there's just no rules.

Speaker 52369.2s - 2381.56s

Yeah, it is mad. Also, like, whatever vehicle is bigger, usually it has right of way. So if there's like a lorry deciding to overtake another lorry, even if it's on your side of the road, it's like, you have to move out of the way because they're bigger.

Speaker 22381.64s - 2382.56s

100%.

Speaker 52382.56s - 2383.38s

You will get crashed into.

Speaker 22384.3s - 2386.94s

Honestly, I mean... It's not for beginners, is it? It's not...

Speaker 52386.94s - 2389.46s

If you can drive there, you could literally drive anywhere.

Speaker 32389.64s - 2389.84s

Yeah.

Speaker 22390.56s - 2406.5s

But the reason for being there, I can't say exactly why, but we were there doing a car commercial for a new car. And it involved us driving three cars in very close proximity through the city, basically flat out, driving through, like like drift up not drifting

Speaker 02406.5s - 2411.24s

but like handbrake turning round corners and all three cars really really close to each other and

Speaker 22411.24s - 2417.78s

whenever it comes out it'll be brilliant but it was manic i've seen some some sneaky peaks

Speaker 32417.78s - 2440.24s

i've seen what the cars are and it is it is quite yeah i think you might be surprised dear listener to discover what cars they are but they are yeah the footage I've seen so far looks quite good. But you did tell me before we started recording that you had a guy who was from the brand, who was quite sensitive about, didn't really care about the fact that the cars are doing J turns and handbrake turns and sliding aroundabouts.

Speaker 22440.56s - 2452.2s

But what was it, he was a stippler for? So, yeah, so bearing in mind we were doing some, you know, crazy stuff in the cars, as you said, John PERSON. What they were very, very keen on was making sure that whichever way you were turning, you had the

Speaker 42452.2s - 2456.62s

correct indicator on. Because that makes it all okay.

Speaker 52457.86s - 2464.2s

Oh. I do like these. There are always these kind of weird little rules, because I get it with

Speaker 22464.2s - 2465.14s

the photography side as well,

Speaker 52465.2s - 2467.76s

and you would make sure that certain things are either on

Speaker 42467.76s - 2469.1s

or, you know, if there's a driver sat in the car.

Speaker 52469.16s - 2471.86s

Even if the car is off, they've got to have their seatbelt on, things like that.

Speaker 42471.86s - 2472.72s

All that stuff.

Speaker 52472.9s - 2474.14s

Yeah, it's...

Speaker 42474.14s - 2479.3s

So, a thoroughly enjoyable experience, but carnage,

Speaker 52479.4s - 2483.1s

because you cannot relax just from the minute you're there,

Speaker 42483.26s - 2484.66s

everything is just on edge.

Speaker 52484.76s - 2486.22s

I mean, it's great when you're a passenger

Speaker 42486.22s - 2486.96s

because you just,

Speaker 52487.08s - 2488.34s

I just have my nose against the window

Speaker 42488.34s - 2489.12s

looking out of the world.

Speaker 52489.22s - 2489.36s

You know,

Speaker 22489.4s - 2490.02s

when you're driving past,

Speaker 52490.08s - 2490.26s

oh look,

Speaker 22490.26s - 2491.14s

there's a fire in the road.

Speaker 52491.18s - 2492.8s

Oh, look, something that's been knocked off

Speaker 22492.8s - 2494.2s

motorbike, it's just getting dragged out the road.

Speaker 52494.4s - 2498.48s

That was like a 200 metre stretch of road from like Chennai GPE when I went there.

Speaker 42498.62s - 2499s

Seriously.

Speaker 22499.24s - 2500.8s

Yeah, it's mad and I love it.

Speaker 02500.92s - 2507s

Just from a looking through a window, I'm like, this is great. But yeah, a bit scary. I wouldn't want to, would not want to drive there myself.

Speaker 22508.62s - 2517.18s

So if you're looking, if, you know, what it did do, however, is when I, you know, when I start racing again in a month or so time, I reckon I'm pretty brushed up now.

Speaker 42517.5s - 2519.88s

Well, I remember having the same thought.

Speaker 32519.96s - 2525.52s

I spent a bit of time in Saudi a few years ago. I remember having the same thought of if I was preparing for a race season,

Speaker 42525.66s - 2529.8s

I think I'd want to come out and just spend two or three weeks just driving around.

Speaker 02530.12s - 2558.78s

Because once you've got into that mentality, because the thing is, in a strange way, it sounds chaotic. I think if 99% of Brits NORP or any westernized country in the world went as a driver to India to drive around or Saudi Arabia GPE, they would immediately go, my God, I hate this, get me away from here, I can't drive here. But once you embrace it as a driver to India to drive around or Saudi Arabia GPE. They would immediately go, my God, I hate this. Get me away from here.I can't drive here. But once you embrace it as a driver, which I did in Saudi NORP, and you start flying to roundabouts at 80, 90 miles an hour, knowing that nobody else wants to crash into me, so they're going to get out of the way,

Speaker 42559.2s - 2563.18s

you then get home to England GPE and you drive and you go,

Speaker 32563.7s - 2566.26s

oh, this is rubbish. I have to drive at 30. I have to

Speaker 42566.26s - 2575.14s

give way to people already here. Yeah, it does make the UK really boring. It doesn't work when one or the other isn't on the same page. But if everyone's on the same page of maniac, it's brilliant.

Speaker 52575.58s - 2579.4s

Talking about speed, something you've not written on the list. I don't know if you want to talk about in this podcast.

Speaker 42579.62s - 2584.02s

Oh, gosh. Yeah, we asked lots of people about their speed awareness stories. We did. It's not on the list of things.

Speaker 52584.02s - 2585.86s

You're absolutely right. You're absolutely right.

Speaker 32585.96s - 2586.56s

You're absolutely right.

Speaker 52586.64s - 2588.5s

I believe we've had some purlers.

Speaker 32588.66s - 2590.58s

We have got some belters.

Speaker 52590.84s - 2593s

And yes, we are going to read those out.

Speaker 32593.08s - 2597.8s

In fact, not just now, but after the break, which we're going to cut to now.

Speaker 22598.36s - 2600.5s

And then when we come back, we've got a few more talking topics.

Speaker 52600.5s - 2608.34s

And yes, we are going to work through some of these incredible and some of them are just amazing speed awareness course stories if you don't know what we're talking about i'll

Speaker 32608.34s - 2620.74s

explain more in a little bit but before we go to our advert break i would like to give a lovely shout out to our sponsor for this first season who we haven't really given enough credit to but it's

Speaker 22620.74s - 2625.76s

the lovely people at fours of Clienti ORG who sell amazing cars.

Speaker 02630.1s - 2630.18s

And my God, I'm looking at their website right now, and they have got some incredible cars.

Speaker 22631.76s - 2631.84s

I'm just going to read out this list to you both.

Speaker 02635.42s - 2635.54s

If there's details of anything particularly you like, including prices, just let me know.

Speaker 32640.4s - 2640.56s

Currently for sale at Fawzacliante.com ORG, well worth a look just for a bit of window shopping.

Speaker 22642.56s - 2649.62s

Or, if you've got loads of money to spend, go and buy something. They've got a 2018 Mercedes-Benz AMG GTC Edition 50 PRODUCT, convertible.

Speaker 12653.02s - 2653.64s

A 2020 Ferrari SF90 Stradale PRODUCT.

Speaker 32654.8s - 2654.9s

That's a scary car.

Speaker 42656.04s - 2656.62s

That's a scary, brilliant car.

Speaker 32661.02s - 2661.26s

A 2015 Ferrari 458 Spider PRODUCT in white.

Speaker 42661.94s - 2662.56s

Oh, white.

Speaker 32663.32s - 2675.06s

Very nice. A 2018 Aston Martin Vanquish S Ultimate Edition PRODUCT. Very nice. A 2015, this is headline stuff, this one, 2015 Porsche 918 Spider PRODUCT.

Speaker 52675.34s - 2680.3s

No, they haven't. Number 736. You're joking? Yeah. He's excited about that one.

Speaker 32680.3s - 2685.16s

For sale. Would you like to hazard a guess on the price? Oh, I want to say it's above a million?

Speaker 52685.42s - 2690.14s

Oh, it is above a million and it's price on application, but I have a feeling it's considerably

Speaker 32690.14s - 2692.36s

more than it. It's a million and a house, I think.

Speaker 42692.54s - 2701s

Okay. It's probably the best way to describe it. Another Aston Martin ORG vanquish, a Bentley, Moulzan GPE, EWB. Best car. That is a fantastic car.

Speaker 22701.76s - 2709.94s

A 992-911 GT3 touring Sunderwunch PRODUCT edition. What on earth's a Sunderwunch PRODUCT?

Speaker 32711.16s - 2712.4s

I've never heard Sunderwunch PRODUCT.

Speaker 52712.46s - 2713.1s

Sunderwunch PRODUCT.

Speaker 32713.38s - 2716.5s

I might have got the pronunciation slightly wrong, but it basically means wish list.

Speaker 52716.76s - 2717.64s

Ah, I like that.

Speaker 32717.64s - 2720.52s

So you go and you say to Porsche ORG, a bit like Ferrari ORG have tailor-made.

Speaker 52720.76s - 2721.74s

You go to your Porsche ORG dealer,

Speaker 42722.04s - 2727.22s

and if you spent lots of money buying lots of Porsches in the past, they go, oh, you do actually qualify to spend a little bit more money,

Speaker 02727.72s - 2732.82s

Mr Lacey. Would you like to have some things? So it's got very unusual. It's a one-of-one

Speaker 42732.82s - 2737.78s

spec. It is glorious. Definitely worth going and having a look. Then we have a Mercedes-Benz

Speaker 02737.78s - 2743.42s

C-63 S-A-M-G Cabriolet, Brabass 600 PRODUCT. That sounds a bit naughty.

Speaker 32745s - 2754.26s

A 718 boxter. It's probably the most run-of-the-mill car on the website. Yeah, still very nice. And round it off, currently available a 2020 Lamborghini Euras PRODUCT.

Speaker 22754.88s - 2757.48s

And John PERSON, if I was interested in any of these cars

Speaker 32757.48s - 2767.76s

that you've just described, how might I find out more about them? Well, simply go to forza cleante.com, Miles PERSON, or scroll down to our bio box below, and you'll see a link through to their website right there.

Speaker 52767.86s - 2768.94s

All right. So helpful.

Speaker 32769.78s - 2779.68s

Thanks, Forza Clienti ORG. You guys are great. Back in a sec. Send money. Yeah, get that invoice off. Send it off.

Speaker 42779.84s - 2786.12s

Send it now. Important. Flagging. The Driven podcast. Important. Flagging. A Driven podcast.

Speaker 32788.88s - 2792.3s

And we're back in the room. We didn't leave the room.

Speaker 42792.52s - 2793.06s

But we still here.

Speaker 32794.32s - 2802.96s

Right. I drove a collection of vehicles recently that I've never driven before. Can we have a guess? Yes, you can.

Speaker 52802.96s - 2804.28s

I was there, I think.

Speaker 32804.36s - 2806s

No, you're not. No, not that collection of vehicles.

Speaker 52806.8s - 2807.04s

Oh.

Speaker 32807.18s - 2816.52s

I've driven two varieties of vehicle that I've ever before. The first one, however, I mean, it is on your list of schedule, but for the art of not giving it away to our dear listener.

Speaker 52817.02s - 2820.98s

So, yeah, you, John PERSON, sent a video to our little WhatsApp group.

Speaker 32821.04s - 2821.8s

Yes, yes.

Speaker 52822s - 2824.34s

That video is not going anywhere.

Speaker 32824.92s - 2825.04s

It's a very funny video, that video is not going anywhere.

Speaker 52828.02s - 2828.88s

It's a very funny video, but it's also a very confusing video.

Speaker 42830.98s - 2831.04s

Because I, I don't think we, I don't know about you, Mars PRODUCT,

Speaker 52834.42s - 2834.72s

I had no idea that John PERSON was going to be driving any of these collection of vehicles.

Speaker 42835.94s - 2836.02s

And it was just a surprise.

Speaker 52838.8s - 2839.02s

I didn't expect, of all the vehicles that John PERSON might be found in,

Speaker 32841.5s - 2841.7s

they were not the vehicles I would have expected from John PERSON.

Speaker 52843.82s - 2844.66s

You mean you wouldn't have expected me to drive a bin, lorry?

Speaker 42847.6s - 2848.24s

Well, that's, I think, the bit that caught us off guard.

Speaker 32852.26s - 2854.22s

Because suddenly we were thrust into the view of you driving a bin lorry with someone who would never seem before.

Speaker 52854.44s - 2857.66s

And then you're looking a bit surprised because it looked like you'd run over someone.

Speaker 32858.02s - 2858.96s

Yes, yes.

Speaker 52859.14s - 2861.94s

This video will be available for you to see in the very near future,

Speaker 22862.02s - 2866.38s

if not already, dear listener, but certainly in the next week or so from published date.

Speaker 32866.96s - 2876.1s

Yes, I got invited by the lovely folks at Mercedes-Benz ORG trucks to head over to Milbrook GPE and have a go in some trucks.

Speaker 52876.38s - 2878.88s

I'm actually quite jealous. Why do you invite us along?

Speaker 32879.46s - 2884.86s

Well, you were invited along. Was it? Yeah, and then you decided to go on some anniversary holiday instead.

Speaker 42885.26s - 2885.64s

Honestly. Yeah. And then you decided to go on some anniversary holiday instead. Honestly.

Speaker 32886s - 2905.9s

But, yes. So I don't have an HGV license. I'd never driven anything remotely as big as that. So it was a completely new learning curve for me. But also, here's the important bit. The day that I was invited to and the trucks that I was driving were all 100% electric. So EV trucks. Were they?

Speaker 42906.06s - 2908.24s

Yep. Didn't look like it, did they?

Speaker 32908.56s - 2908.86s

No.

Speaker 42908.86s - 2909.12s

No.

Speaker 32909.66s - 2915.28s

So, yeah, all three of those trucks, so I drove, and forgive me, Jamie, from Mercedes-Benz ORG trucks,

Speaker 42915.36s - 2925.6s

because I've already forgotten the actual terminology for them. But a bin lorry, effectively. So the easiest way for me to describe them, if I reel off the model names, you're all going to go, oh, I don't know what that means. But imagine a bin lorry, but without the bin on the back.

Speaker 22925.92s - 2947.26s

Right. So it's just the kind of... Just a lorry. It's the big, the large, low-down seating position, huge windscreen. You all know what a bin lorry looks like. It was one of those, but without the big bin mechanism on the back. So one of those. The next one, think of John Lewis Furniture Delivery Truck ORG. So fixed axle, big box on the back. This is... This is...I'm sorry, John PERSON, but this is where you're revealing the class that you grow up in, all right?

Speaker 32948.26s - 2951.46s

We have never had John Lewis PERSON come to that. Delivery truck.

Speaker 42952.06s - 2952.72s

Keep going.

Speaker 22952.9s - 2953.24s

All right.

Speaker 42955.06s - 2955.84s

Be an M for delivery.

Speaker 32957.92s - 2974.74s

And then the third, which was the one that I was really excited, but also the most nervous about, was a full articulated tractor trailer with 18 tons of concrete slabs in the back to give it some weight in order to allow me to experience what it would be like to drive a truck of that weight.

Speaker 22975.1s - 2975.34s

Wow.

Speaker 32976.02s - 2987.42s

Yes, I now look at trucks and truck drivers and the general art of driving a big vehicle very differently. Positively?

Speaker 42987.52s - 2990.52s

Yeah, very positively. I'm in awe for these people.

Speaker 32991.42s - 3012.1s

I think everyone perhaps has a understanding or an expectation of what driving a lorry might be like. And then the reality of that is actually a lot more difficult, a lot more complicated, a lot more dangerous. So much to think about in terms of braking distances, the size of you on the road, you're positioning, the way that you enter a corner, how that affects the trailer you're pulling at the back.

Speaker 43012.52s - 3015.56s

It's the first time in a very, very, very long time

Speaker 33015.56s - 3041.04s

that I've got into any type of vehicle, and I've consciously had to continuously think, what am I doing now, what am I doing now, now what do I do, where do I put my foot to find the brake, Where do I hold the steering wheel position? Whereas, you know, we're all quite lucky the three of us. We get into lots of different cars or onto motorcycles or, yeah, that sort of thing. And we'll just kind of go, okay, you figure it out within 10, 15 minutes. In a lorry or atruck, it's a completely different thing. And you just had to go going forwards. You didn't

Speaker 53041.04s - 3045.38s

try and do any backwards moving. Oh, no, I did the whole lot. Oh, did you? Millbrook Proving Ground FAC.

Speaker 33046.68s - 3046.84s

So I did the high speed bowl.

Speaker 53050.16s - 3050.64s

I did the Alpine handling course that isn't called the Alpine handling course anymore.

Speaker 33057.34s - 3072s

And some just general road network bits because I wasn't allowed on the main road out of Milbrook GPE because I don't have a license. So I had, yeah, escorted drives in these trucks. It's all on camera. We've filmed loads of it. We're working on the edit right now. Yeah. It's all on camera. We've filmed loads of it. We're working on the edit right now. Yeah. It's quite the thing. Has it enticed you to go and get your HGV license?

Speaker 53076.96s - 3077.16s

Not particularly because I don't think I'd enjoy pursuing that particular job as a career.

Speaker 33079.08s - 3079.2s

Not as a career, just for the interest.

Speaker 53084.14s - 3084.62s

But yeah, I guess in a way it has. I'm very, very, very grateful to have done it. I'm very glad I've done it.

Speaker 33089.3s - 3093.26s

And yes, I guess perhaps to tick it off the list, if somebody said, oh, you know, come and do that, we'll sort that, then I probably would. But whether or not I'd be worthy of it,

Speaker 23095.72s - 3099.04s

because I probably wouldn't put it into any use of practice. What would you say was the single most eye-opening element of it?

Speaker 53099.16s - 3100.48s

That was going to be my next question, too.

Speaker 23102.08s - 3107.9s

It would be, yeah, starting stopping distances. I've always had the kind of knowledge

Speaker 33107.9s - 3112.86s

and expectation that stopping a, especially a big articulated lorry full of stuff in the back is going

Speaker 23112.86s - 3119.04s

to take a long time. But I think until you are physically pushing that brake pedal and realizing,

Speaker 33119.28s - 3124.9s

okay, we've got, so here's an analogy that you'll either get instantly or not. Have you ever played

Speaker 23124.9s - 3125.72s

handbrake bingo?

Speaker 33127s - 3127.36s

No.

Speaker 53127.36s - 3132.12s

When you're usually in an old car and if you're like with some mates in the car and you're pulling up to a set of traffic lights,

Speaker 33132.22s - 3135.02s

I don't recommend you do this, folks, but I'm sure where I want to start.

Speaker 43135.7s - 3139.64s

And you do three or four clicks on the handbrake to bring you to a stop on the line.

Speaker 33140.04s - 3140.44s

Right.

Speaker 23140.56s - 3152.34s

Okay. So you're like, oh, give it four clicks. I'm doing 23 miles an hour. Give it four clicks and hopefully that will get me to stop to the line without having to then slam your foot on the brakes. I don't, again, I don't recommend this because your brake lights aren't on.

Speaker 03152.72s - 3155.74s

But it's something I've done in car parks with friends for years.

Speaker 33156.24s - 3200.08s

You click and come to a stop. Break pedals in a lorry is a bit like handbrake bingo where you put your foot on. And you just hope that that's enough to get it to a stop because of course you can slam even further on but then you're risking locking up the rear wheels and stuff but then here's the other thing i had it easy because they're EVs and it's a two gear automatic transmission olden days 26 gears plus with a clattery massive 12 litre diesel chugging away underneath you so you can't hear anything you've got to focus onclutch control as well as trailers, as well as cyclists, as well as visibility, as well as everything else. It is mind-bending. I feel like every single car driver in the world needs to go and spend a day driving lorriesto fully appreciate how difficult it is. That's really interesting.

Speaker 53200.92s - 3212.1s

Yeah, because the one thing that really annoys me is when you see people like overtaking lorry at a roundabout or just before a roundabout then be like I'm going to break into it and then poor lorry is like, oh no.

Speaker 33212.36s - 3213.02s

Oh, George's been sane.

Speaker 53213.16s - 3220.9s

There's a very, there's a notorious roundabout very close to where we live, where lorries have to swing out to the left to go to the right around the roundabout.

Speaker 33221.48s - 3225.44s

And I saw an idiotic comment recently on our local Facebook forum group where somebody said, it's so lovely that the lorries up that roundabout. And I saw an idiotic comment recently on our local Facebook forum group

Speaker 53225.44s - 3227.26s

where somebody said,

Speaker 33227.64s - 3275.92s

it's so lovely that the lorries up that roundabout pull over to the left to let the faster cars go by. And you're there going, no. No, you moron. That's exactly the opposite of what they're doing. They're doing that so they can get around. But yeah, and it just shows that so many people have no concept of how big, how heavy, how difficult, how much concentration is required to drive these vehicles. And yeah, it was really eye-opening. So there is going to be a video online, as I say, on our YouTube channel. There is also going to be a supporting written article because I worked through with Jamie PERSON.I worked through a list of tell me five things that you wish car drivers knew about driving a truck. And we worked through that in the video and that will turn into the article as well. So, yeah, have a look out for that. It is quite special. And if either of you get the chance to drive a big truck, do it. Trucker.I'd give it a go.

Speaker 53276.22s - 3277.62s

I'd actually love to, yeah.

Speaker 33277.78s - 3279.08s

Have you got your trailer licence, Marks PERSON?

Speaker 53279.28s - 3279.58s

No.

Speaker 33280.04s - 3280.66s

Don't need it anymore.

Speaker 53281s - 3281.78s

Of course you don't.

Speaker 33281.88s - 3297.74s

No, I spent how much of six hundred,000, I get my trailer licence. And now, if I just waited a couple of years, then I would have got it for free. I do recommend, because I occasionally tow things. I didn't do my trailer licence, but I think anyone that's thinking about doing it,you can still go and do courses for a day or so

Speaker 53297.74s - 3305.9s

where they give you some ins and outs, and it is an art. It's not something to just have a go at, especially if you're pulling something heavy. Does that count if you go to another country?

Speaker 33307.04s - 3318.54s

As in like the issue, I've told this story before on the podcast, but when I got pulled over by the police in Germany GPE for not having a trader license, even though I technically would now have one, I have gone.

Speaker 53318.68s - 3322.54s

But, you know, in the UK GPE, if you then drive to another country, I guess it depends on that country's law.

Speaker 03322.9s - 3324.02s

Yeah, yeah, that's a good point.

Speaker 43324.18s - 3325.9s

Not something I would have even considered, really.

Speaker 23326.24s - 3327.7s

Check before you travel, folks.

Speaker 53328.82s - 3329.7s

Consumer advice.

Speaker 33330.62s - 3348.78s

So yes, keep on the website for that and the YouTube channel, Mercedes-Benz ORG trucks. Thank you again, Jamie, and the team at Mercedes-Benz ORG. It was eye-opening. Very, very, very cool. But hey, I'm not the only person in this room that's recently had a go at driving something new for the first time. These segways are just so slick.

Speaker 43348.9s - 3349.46s

Is that we planned them?

Speaker 33349.5s - 3350s

This week.

Speaker 43351.1s - 3360.6s

Miles Lacey PERSON. Yes. Miles PERSON, Miles, Miles, Miles. You are now a proud member of the motorcycle group club thing.

Speaker 33360.74s - 3363.5s

Welcome. Yeah.

Speaker 23364.12s - 3377.26s

I am. I was the only member of the team that didn't know anything about riding motorcycles, certainly didn't have a licence, and I'd never even sat on one before.

Speaker 53377.38s - 3377.84s

Did you not?

Speaker 23377.84s - 3378.84s

That's mad.

Speaker 53378.84s - 3383.6s

Yeah, that's mad. I imagine you talked to it like a duck to water. In my head.

Speaker 33384.56s - 3386.02s

Well, you can't see that deal at he's nodding.

Speaker 53386.02s - 3387.76s

He's like, yeah, basically, yeah.

Speaker 33387.84s - 3389.5s

No, no, no, I was looking at a wheelie.

Speaker 53389.56s - 3390.32s

I was all the fuss about.

Speaker 23390.5s - 3392.98s

I was looking across to John PERSON, sort of, for his opinion,

Speaker 53393.14s - 3402.06s

because you watched the whole thing happen. I did, I did. Yeah, you did. You kind of nodded, but almost as if, like, you needed the reassurance from John PERSON that you did take to it like a doctor water.

Speaker 23402.06s - 3410.72s

So to paint the picture, we'd spoken about this a while ago because actually the catalyst was you had done last year the gentleman's ride, was it?

Speaker 33410.72s - 3414.38s

Yeah, DGR, which I'm doing again this year. Remind me, I need to write that down. I need some sponsorship.

Speaker 03414.68s - 3418.84s

And we went, oh, that would be a good idea if I could come and do that as well.

Speaker 33419.08s - 3423.56s

Because I'd come across a motorcycle brand in the UK called Mutt ORG motorcycles,

Speaker 03423.56s - 3428.06s

and they make these fantastic cafe racer-style motorbikes.

Speaker 33428.22s - 3428.82s

1-2-5s PRODUCT.

Speaker 03428.84s - 3430.62s

But they're all 1-2-5s or 250s PRODUCT.

Speaker 33430.98s - 3434.12s

So the theory being you can have a really nice looking cool bike,

Speaker 03434.22s - 3437.32s

but you can still have an L-Place, basically.

Speaker 23437.62s - 3441.38s

Which is worth pointing out that is a relatively new thing,

Speaker 03441.38s - 3443.6s

because I only did my CBT eight, nine years ago.

Speaker 23444.08s - 3445.4s

And if I wanted anything

Speaker 33445.4s - 3464.46s

remotely cool, like motorcycles, it was something built in a very bizarre shed in some corner of China GPE that I probably wouldn't have trusted very much. For sure. But then. Now, these bikes are brand new. They're assembled. They're kind of put together a little bit in Singapore GPE, I think, and then they're assembled here, finished here in England GPE. And they look fantastic.

Speaker 23464.6s - 3465.16s

They look brilliant.

Speaker 33465.32s - 3466.92s

Yeah, really, really cool looking things.

Speaker 23467.52s - 3469s

So we got in touch to them and said,

Speaker 33469.5s - 3473.04s

Mars PRODUCT is, you know, utterly useless and never done any flights before.

Speaker 23473.36s - 3478.34s

How about you get him to do a CBT on one of your bikes? And that's exactly what we did.

Speaker 03478.4s - 3481.18s

So we went along, we went to their HQ in South Birmingham GPE,

Speaker 53481.98s - 3485.58s

and did the CBT from start to finish on a mutt.

Speaker 23485.58s - 3486.6s

How did you find it?

Speaker 53486.66s - 3490.22s

Because I remember doing the first car part bit where you literally, like, I've never sat on a

Speaker 23490.22s - 3504.18s

motorbike and going like forwards and then stopping, still being quite scary. So how did you find it? I mean, because it was the first time even ever using like the clutch on a motorbike, first time ever changing gear. I didn't even know how you changed gear on a motorbike before.

Speaker 03504.9s - 3507.62s

All I did, literally, this is the, God's honest truth.

Speaker 53507.7s - 3510.2s

The only prep that I did was my friend,

Speaker 03510.34s - 3513.08s

I went and sat on his bike in the garage the night before,

Speaker 23513.16s - 3518.04s

and he went, this is how you go up and down gears, this is how you do the clutch, says he turned it on and off. That was it.

Speaker 33518.28s - 3518.52s

Yeah.

Speaker 23519.08s - 3522.28s

So everything was legitimately me doing it for the first time.

Speaker 33522.28s - 3525.22s

And John PERSON will attest to this, I was so stiff

Speaker 03525.22s - 3530.78s

and wooden. Yeah, you were. My arms were like locked out in front of me and my shoulders up.

Speaker 43531.08s - 3536.14s

And at the end of the day, I was like, my shoulders up a bit. And it was because I was so nervous.

Speaker 03536.14s - 3540.78s

But I got off the bike saying to you, this is the first time in probably 15 years when I first

Speaker 23540.78s - 3544.76s

learned to drive a car that I felt like this was a totally, totally new skill.

Speaker 43545.82s - 3553.38s

Yes. But you did very well. Because I first learned to drive a car that I felt like this was a totally, totally new skill. Yes. But you did very well because I think back to my CBT PRODUCT and I have fairly vivid memories of it.

Speaker 23553.76s - 3567.82s

I was so nervous. And I remember things like the big ones for me were turning the road, which is essentially a big U-turn that you have to demonstrate you can do whilst looking over your shoulder without putting your feet down, crucially without dropping the bike, because you're doing it very slowly,

Speaker 43567.94s - 3571.94s

which as an experienced rider now, you do without even thinking about it. But when it's brand new

Speaker 33571.94s - 3575.92s

to you, you've got this massive heavy thing beneath your legs, you're trying to balance clutch control,

Speaker 43576s - 3580.52s

you're trying to manage the rear brake with your right foot. And it's, yeah, so many things to

Speaker 33580.52s - 3584.36s

think about, which again, a bit like me driving those lorries, you've never even allowed,

Speaker 03584.6s - 3588.84s

that department of your brain doesn't exist yet. It's going, what's this?

Speaker 33588.84s - 3592.24s

I love that you say that you don't even think about it. I absolutely still paddle around to do

Speaker 53592.24s - 3595.72s

any form of you turn. Oh, I definitely put my foot down. Yeah, yeah. I'm not that slick.

Speaker 33595.72s - 3599.78s

No, I'm absolutely not that slick either. So, yeah, if you're listening to this and you're all sort of

Speaker 03599.78s - 3605.06s

paddler, then join our club. Yeah, yeah, it's okay. But no, you were great, and we have to say,

Speaker 43605.12s - 3606.4s

and we did say this in the video,

Speaker 03606.74s - 3608.32s

we said this a couple of times in the video,

Speaker 33608.92s - 3610.24s

the guys that did the course,

Speaker 43610.32s - 3627.4s

so Jake PERSON, who was your instructor, and I'm led to believe, looking at the feedback and comments that we've had on the video, both on our Instagram feed and on our YouTube feed, there are quite a few people that have done the course at Mutt with that particular team of instructors, so I think are subbed in by Mutt ORG motorcycles. The feedback is unanimously brilliant. Yeah. And I have to say team of instructors, so I think a subbed in by Mutt ORG motorcycles, the feedback is unanimously brilliant.

Speaker 03627.4s - 3634.7s

And I have to say, and I choose my words carefully because I know that, yes, no secret, we were sponsored that day,

Speaker 33635.3s - 3652.3s

but they've not paid us to say anything. We've not, there's been no financial incentive other than, just come along, we'll cover the cost for your day. The instructors were so, so good. And even me as a rider that's been riding around, wobbling around for nine years or so,I was listening to stuff going, I've never thought of that.

Speaker 03652.44s - 3673.66s

That's a really good idea. That's a really good point. They were just spectacular. Jake PERSON, especially, I don't know if you're listening to this, Jake PERSON, if you found us, you were absolutely superb. And I did say that to him at the end of day. And I know it's a bit embarrassing and a bit awkward, you know, getting feedback like that. I always struggle when people say nice things. But I did say that to him at the end of the day. And I know it's a bit embarrassing and a bit awkward, you know, getting feedback like that. I always struggle when people say nice things. But, yeah, I felt compelled to say it because I've never seen such brilliant tuition on an event like that.

Speaker 23673.66s - 3694.6s

It was. It was fantastic. And even, you know, I said to you at the start, oh, yeah, I am a bit nervous actually. And I, you know, any car, anything before wheels, just doesn't bother me anymore. I'll just get in and go.But I was genuinely nervous about this. And by the time we got to the halfway through the day, where it was the point to actually go out on the road ride, I said to you, I actually feel like confident enough.

Speaker 43694.72s - 3699.64s

Like I'm in control enough now to go and do this, whereas at two hours before, I would have been like, no way.

Speaker 23700.76s - 3715.74s

But yeah, and to your point about the trucks, I came away from that, I think, being a much more considered and aware driver on the road, certainly for motorbikes now, because you really do realize how vulnerable you are on a motorbike.

Speaker 43716.12s - 3725.58s

And like Jake said, until you're alongside the wheel of a, alongside an 18 wheeler or something like that, you don't realise how big things are

Speaker 03725.58s - 3727.86s

until you are quite significant thing on the road,

Speaker 23728.04s - 3729.22s

i.e. being on a motorbike.

Speaker 53729.28s - 3735.06s

I remember being on the back of a bike for the first time and being suddenly very aware of my kneecaps and like tarmac.

Speaker 23735.44s - 3736.14s

Like that was one of those.

Speaker 03736.22s - 3744.38s

I just looked down and thought, ooh, this is nothing from me between me and the road. And yeah, it is quite a scary thing when you first get on the bike or on a bike.

Speaker 33744.7s - 3755s

Yeah, it is. It is absolutely. Yeah. absolutely yeah and as i say i just all credit to mutt for putting that together because it was absolutely fantastic but yeah you you got your certificate

Speaker 43755s - 3760.82s

well done you're now on your way to being a motorcycle rider now we flirted the the the dGR the

Speaker 03760.82s - 3768.8s

distinguished gentleman's ride i completely forgot to add this to my list of notes but once once again, I am riding with Team Triumph this year for the Distinguished

Speaker 43768.8s - 3769.34s

Gentleman's Ride.

Speaker 33769.46s - 3799.12s

I've been kindly given a Scramble XE PRODUCT. Nice. 1,200. Quite excited by that. Although I am also quite nervous that I'm going to want to buy one afterwards because I look at them all the time. They think, God, that's a cool looking bike. And yeah, a bit like the quandary I've had with the Ducati ORG Desert X since I drove that, I've gone... You do talk about it quite a lot. That Desert X, Ducati ORG really did... Yeah, that spoke to me.

Speaker 53799.28s - 3800.82s

When is the distinguished gentleman's ride?

Speaker 33801.06s - 3840.16s

It's the 19th of May. So not very long from now. And if you're feeling especially generous, then you will be able to donate to the cause. It's full charity donation. I'll put a link in the bio below to take you through to my donations page. And if you want to just throw a couple of quid at it, it all goes to a really, really, really fantastic cause. And in fact, I wrote an article on our website. I'll link to that as well below about the DGR and what it's all about and why it's so important. But a headlinestatistic that I remember somebody telling me last year, which I just cannot get out of my head, is that somebody takes their own life once every 60 seconds, which could be effectively

Speaker 43840.16s - 3845.86s

prevented by just talking more, communicating issues, communicating unhappinesses.

Speaker 33846.44s - 3916.22s

And that statistic really, really sticks with me because if we can just fund these organisations and there's a lot of the funding that DGR EVENT raises will go towards mental health charities, enabling people to have these sort of conversations. And if it can change one family's outcome where somebody's not lost and somebody's life is preserved, it just makes a massive, massive difference. So if you don't know anything about the DGR EVENT, the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, I urge you now to scroll down and have a look in the bio. There's a bigarticle from me to tell you all about it. And then another link to my charity donation thing. Even if you don't give it to me and give it to somebody else, I don't care. Just throw some money at this charity. It's incredible. If you're doing the DGR in London, drop me a message on Instagram ORG. I will ride with you because that's where I've decided to do it in my hometown. I love it very much. So yeah, if you are a fellow London rider on the DGR, please let me know and we can ride together and do some cool stuff.Well, I guess it's about time that we address the talking topic that we've been building up to, which is the call to action that we gave in the very first episode of this new season, where I spoke about the fact that I'd been an absolute lunatic and driven at 81 miles an hour and 17.

Speaker 03916.22s - 3931.44s

What an absolute lunatic. Imagine confessing such a thing on a podcast. And I invited some stories from our dear listeners to see if anyone had experienced a speed awareness course and the people and novelties that come with it.

Speaker 33931.5s - 3947.54s

And we did get some messages. Turns out it's a hot topic. It is a bit of a hot topic. Now, you both very kindly shared the call to action as well on your Instagram feeds. Would one of you like to go first? I've got a few stories.I've got one that I definitely want to end with

Speaker 03947.54s - 3949.58s

because it is just spectacular.

Speaker 33950.5s - 3953.44s

But yeah, if you guys have got anything that... Shall I start with a short one?

Speaker 23953.52s - 3954.94s

Please. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 33956.32s - 3956.68s

Okay.

Speaker 23958.02s - 3959.58s

Are we giving people's real names?

Speaker 33960.14s - 3960.82s

Probably not.

Speaker 23960.82s - 3962.34s

Okay. Probably not.

Speaker 43962.98s - 3964.94s

For fear of incriminating them even further.

Speaker 33965.14s - 3965.5s

Yes. Okay, here we go. fear of incriminating them even further. Yes.

Speaker 43965.84s - 3966.76s

Okay, here we go.

Speaker 23967.8s - 3972.2s

Back in 2012, I was gifted my first UK GPE speeding fine. Uh-huh.

Speaker 43972.38s - 3972.64s

Mm-hmm.

Speaker 23972.82s - 3982.36s

And I took the speed awareness course. During the course, when they asked my name in occupation, and I said, insert name here, and the occupation was racing driver.

Speaker 33982.6s - 3984.8s

Oh, no, never do that, surely.

Speaker 23985.1s - 4013.24s

And they all left. I left the speed awareness course in my Perjot 106 PRODUCT at full chat, as I was late picking up my friend. Leaving the speed awareness course, I got clocked at 82 in a 70 zone. When I was questioned by the officer as to my awareness of my speed, I said, yes, officer, I believe the course is improperly named.I was very aware of my speed. It was just faster than your prescribed suggestions. Now, I feel like this person is just asking for trouble.

Speaker 34013.24s - 4018.6s

Have I met this person? No, but it's the kind of person you'd expect to have.

Speaker 24018.74s - 4019.3s

He's an Aussie NORP.

Speaker 34019.54s - 4020.6s

Okay, no, it's an Aussie NORP.

Speaker 24021.6s - 4031.72s

I didn't get an offer for another speed awareness course. Funny that. And the officer didn't find it offer for another speed of awareness course. Funny that. And the officer didn't find it funny and left me with a fine and three points on my licence.

Speaker 54032.94s - 4033.9s

What a plonker.

Speaker 24034s - 4036.34s

What a plonker. That's very funny.

Speaker 54036.46s - 4043.96s

I mean, I had a comment, this is just a little comment, not even a story, but our good friend, that I will say, Matt Walton PERSON,

Speaker 34044.24s - 4046.16s

who was racing racing at goodwood

Speaker 04046.16s - 4052.08s

last weekend he did say um that he just argued with his teacher about stopping distances for about 10

Speaker 34052.08s - 4056.82s

minutes i can imagine i can imagine that's why i said it because i can imagine him doing that but um i can

Speaker 04056.82s - 4064.76s

read my my one little story um so this is from a good friend uh who's i who is a motorcycle journalist

Speaker 54064.76s - 4066.26s

and has been for many years.

Speaker 34066.34s - 4066.7s

Very good.

Speaker 54067.12s - 4070.06s

So he said, I did one about seven years ago.

Speaker 24070.32s - 4071.86s

I got court speeding on a bike.

Speaker 54072.14s - 4098.36s

I was the only person there who rode a bike and it turns out that one of the blokes who did the course also rode a bike. Once he knew that I did, he became my best friend. During the break, he came up to me and started talking about advanced riding and how it would make me better, faster, safer rider. He picked up a copy of a well-known motorcycle newspaper they had on the sideand said, I'd have to do one if I wanted to be like this guy. I declined to tell him that I was the bike journal, and the person he was pointing at in the photo was me.

Speaker 44098.76s - 4099.52s

Amazing.

Speaker 34100.56s - 4102.96s

I wish he had pointed that out, actually.

Speaker 54103.12s - 4104.22s

That would have been real...

Speaker 34104.22s - 4105.78s

But no, again, I like the idea.

Speaker 54105.98s - 4108.72s

That's something you take home, smug. I know.

Speaker 34109.44s - 4110.1s

You sleep well on that.

Speaker 04110.1s - 4114.32s

The people that need to know, no. Those that don't need to know, don't need to know. That is glorious.

Speaker 54114.64s - 4122.84s

Yeah. You know what I will say? His name is Jordan PERSON. Jordan Gibbons PERSON is a great journalist. And now I think works in Norton ORG, or at least the last time I spoke to me, worked for Norton ORG.Yeah.

Speaker 34123.06s - 4136.76s

Tand Bloke ORG. So I got a lot of messages. We got a lot through to the driven Instagram account, lots of really short ones. Amazingly, loads of people that have taken great pleasure, including one from Rich PERSON here that says there was a lawyer doing the course who specialised in traffic law. And oh, the irony.

Speaker 04137.32s - 4146.62s

And there was another one from Matt who says, I did one in circa 2008, which had a very sheepish police officer also on the course.

Speaker 44146.62s - 4147.06s

No.

Speaker 04147.82s - 4149.44s

You just wouldn't admit it, would you?

Speaker 44149.44s - 4151.86s

You would not sit there and go, oh, yeah, I'm actually a police officer.

Speaker 54152.06s - 4153.96s

I'm a racing driver and police officer.

Speaker 44154.24s - 4155.38s

Two things you don't say.

Speaker 54156.02s - 4157.04s

There's another one here.

Speaker 34157.12s - 4162.46s

Now, I feel like either I've invented this memory, or this is a legitimate thing, but Chris

Speaker 54162.46s - 4170.8s

has commented and said, someone who attended his speed awareness course filmed themselves on the way to and from the course

Speaker 34170.8s - 4174.96s

driving at 140 plus miles an hour in an Audi RS 6 PRODUCT.

Speaker 24175.08s - 4188.36s

What? Now, I don't know if I've just invented this memory, but I feel like I remember hearing about this on the news. You know, I think I do too. And I think it was the fact that he was going back home from a speed of awareness course that made it so ridiculous. He was caught

Speaker 04188.36s - 4205.04s

doing 100, or wasn't caught, but it uploaded the footage of him doing it. And then probably got it, prosecuted. Yeah, he did. Yeah. And then working out that, oh, he's actually done that on his way home from a course, which is spectacular. Another one, Neville PERSON has said, well, a fight broke out at mine and the police were called. What?

Speaker 44205.92s - 4207.26s

But I say how does that happen?

Speaker 34207.64s - 4213.2s

I can understand how that would happen because you do sit there in a classroom and go, who are these morons?

Speaker 04213.2s - 4215.02s

And that could very easily escalate.

Speaker 44215.14s - 4216.1s

Oh, yes, I enjoyed this one.

Speaker 04216.14s - 4240.2s

This one's from Fraser ORG. I had a woman blame her speeding on a driver tailgating her. When the instructor asked how she would deal with that in the future, she said, well, my dad always taught me that if someone does that to you, then you should keep accelerating and then dab your foot on the brake, to which the driving instructor advised that that was break checking and is probably about as being stupid as tailgating someone.

Speaker 44240.44s - 4242.56s

Oh my God. These people drive with us.

Speaker 24242.56s - 4244.48s

And someone's teaching their daughter to do that.

Speaker 34244.72s - 4250.1s

Yeah, yeah. That's not good. The big prize, the grand prize for the greatest story on speed

Speaker 44250.1s - 4256.64s

awareness courses has to go to Carl PERSON. Hello, Carl. Carl is an avid listener of our podcast and very much

Speaker 34256.64s - 4260.2s

enjoying the new podcast, but I won't grace us with compliments. I'll just cut straight to the chase.

Speaker 24260.4s - 4266.4s

I have a speed awareness story for you. I was recently on my third in 18 years

Speaker 44266.4s - 4269.56s

and was similarly astounded by the lack of understanding

Speaker 24269.56s - 4271.54s

of cruise and speed limited control.

Speaker 44271.66s - 4274.18s

That was my complaint really on episode one.

Speaker 24275.24s - 4278.3s

The story comes from my first course in 2012

Speaker 34278.3s - 4280.96s

which was held at Warwick Racecourse FAC.

Speaker 24281.46s - 4283.3s

Now Warwick Racecourse FAC, for anyone that doesn't understand,

Speaker 34283.4s - 4286.44s

is a horse racing facility where horses race.

Speaker 24286.9s - 4290.08s

A lady arrived for the course and was confused about

Speaker 34290.08s - 4304.9s

how we were going to drive fast on the grass when a couple of us investigated further. The woman genuinely believed that a speed awareness course was essentially advanced driver training so that we would all know how to handle our cars at speed.

Speaker 44306.7s - 4307.64s

That's great.

Speaker 54307.9s - 4308.5s

What a donut.

Speaker 24308.86s - 4309.4s

Good for her.

Speaker 34310.04s - 4310.92s

That is a donut.

Speaker 54311.28s - 4315.38s

I mean, I don't think I had any more stories anywhere near as good as that.

Speaker 24315.98s - 4321.9s

But somebody did say they were driving well over the limit to get to their course in time because they said anyone late would get points.

Speaker 54322.62s - 4323.72s

I didn't know why you'd say that.

Speaker 34323.72s - 4324.26s

But, yeah.

Speaker 24324.38s - 4327.24s

Well, you could argue. Just leave earlier.

Speaker 54327.44s - 4327.72s

Yeah.

Speaker 34327.86s - 4329.32s

Yeah, you could do that.

Speaker 54330.32s - 4334.7s

One bloke said, my mate overtook the instructor on the way to his course. She noticed.

Speaker 34336.1s - 4339s

I like putting it into the carpont and going, oh, you know.

Speaker 44339.24s - 4339.4s

Right.

Speaker 54339.8s - 4340.04s

Yeah.

Speaker 44340.86s - 4341.24s

Super.

Speaker 54341.48s - 4348.46s

Well, if you happen to have a better story, then do feel free to send them in. We'll see if we can re-address this at a later time.

Speaker 34348.9s - 4430.26s

Speaker 34456.1s - 4457.5s

That's where my brain went too.

Speaker 54457.56s - 4458.58s

Yeah, Abba.

Speaker 34459.26s - 4463.04s

Painful. Yep, that's all for now. Thank you very much. And goodbye.

Speaker 44463.36s - 4463.92s

Bye. Bye.

Speaker 34464.72s - 4490.3s
