An MSNBC host is aghast to hear that Bill Barr PERSON may have been in cahoots with Donald Trump PERSON. Donald Trump blasts his trial judges, and that's resulting in calls for violence. And Arizona court rejects the RNC's attempt to upend election administration. Biden PERSON announces that he will raise tariffs on some Chinese products. And House Democrats NORP launch a probe into Trump PERSON's dinner with oil executives. I'm your host, Alison Gill PERSON.Hey, everybody, happy happy happy Wednesday. Dana PERSON is out. She will be back tomorrow. She misses you very much. So please send in those baby photos now so that she'll have them tomorrow when she gets here. And you can sendthose to us at DailyBeanspod.com and click on contact. She sends her love. Like I said, she can't wait to be back. And I miss her too. Also, I didn't get into the Trump trial today. But Pete PERSON and I are going to discuss all of it on today's cleanup on aisle 45 podcast. I highly recommend you check it out, including the New York Appeals Court rejecting Trump PERSON's bid to toss out his gag order. That got denied as well. Plus, we'll have updates on Rudy and Bannon and Pete Navarro and Matt Gates PERSON, all sorts of stuff going on.So you definitely want to tune in to cleanup on out 45 today for all of that intricate details of some of that testimony. All right, we have a lot of news to get to today. So let's hit the hot notes. Hot notes. All right, first up from today. So let's hit the hot notes. Hot notes. All right, first up from Maxine Jawslow at the Washington Post ORG. House Democrats NORP are launching an investigationin a Trump's meeting with oil executives last month at Mar-a-Lago FAC, where the former president asked the executives to steer a billion dollars to his campaign and promise to reverse dozens of Biden PERSON's environmental policies. The probe comes after the Washington Post on Thursday first reported the fundraiser dinner, where Trump said that giving a billion dollars would be a deal because of the taxation and regulation the oil companies would avoid thanks to him. That's according to people with knowledge of the meeting who spoke on the condition of anonymity. In letters sent Monday evening, Democrats on the House Overset Committee ORG asked nine oil executives to provide detailed information on their company's participation in the meeting. The Democrats voiced concern that Trump PERSON's request at the dinner may have been a quid pro quo and may have violated campaign finance laws, although experts say his conduct probably did not cross the threshold of being illegal. Lawmakers sent the letters to the CEOs, Chenere Energy, Chesapeake Energy, Chevron ORG,Continental Resources, EQT Corp, ExxonMobil, Occidental Petroleum, and Venture Global ORG. They also fired off a missive to the head of the American Petroleum Institute, the oil industry's top lobbying arm in Washington GPE, D.C. Now, rep Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on House ORG oversight, asked the executives to provide the names and titles of any company representatives who attended the Mar-a-Lago FAC dinner, copies of any materials shared with them, a description of any policy proposal discussionsat the event, and a list of any contributions to the Trump PERSON campaign made during or after the event.

Speaker 0265.16s - 269.66s

Raskin PERSON also asked the executives to provide a copy of any draft executive order or policy

Speaker 1269.66s - 1065.72s

paperwork to their companies or that their companies have prepared for Donald Trump PERSON or his campaign, and Politico ORG reported that the oil industry lawyers and lobbyists have drawn up executive orders for Donald to sign in a possible second term, including directives aimed at boosting natural gas exports and offshore oil drilling. So if they drafted up any executive orders, they'd like Trump to sign if he wins the presidency in November, the House Oversight Committee wants those too. Asked about the letter, Andrea Woods, a spokeswoman for the American Petroleum Institute, said in an email that the group, quote, meets with policymakers and candidates from across the political spectrum on topics important to our industry that range from strengthening energy security to addressing persistent U.S. GPE inflation. What? Just throw that a little inflation tagline in there. A venture global spokeswoman said of the meeting with Trump that venture global regularly engages with government officials, both past and present on bipartisan bases. And this meeting was no different. We would welcome a similar conversation with President Biden PERSON at any time. Okay, so if Biden hosts a fundraisersaying, give me a billion dollars and I'll cut these programs that I've put into place to save the planet, that's cool. That's what you're saying. Uh-huh. Now, a spokesperson for Schneier Energy ORG declined to comment on the letter. Spokespeople for other oil companies didn't respond to request for comment. But Democrats on the Oversight Committee ORG lack certain investigative powers because Republicans control the House ORG. Barely. But they do. And if the oil companies decline to turn over the information, Democrats NORP won't be able to subpoenathe firms. Yet, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, a vocal climate advocate who chairs the Senate Budget Committee ORG, which does wield subpoena power, has voiced interest in launching his own probe. I don't know. Senate hasn't launched very many probes and hasn't subpoenaed very many people, including that $2 billion for Kush PERSON. But anyway, Trump PERSON's comments at the dinner, quote, are practically an invitation to ask questions about big oil's political corruption and manipulation. That's what Senator White House ORG said in a statement. Fossil fuel malfeasance will cost Americans NORP trillionsin climate damages. And the budget committee is looking at how to ensure the industry cannot simply buy off politicians in order to saddle taxpayers with the bill. At the Mar-a-Lago FAC meeting, Trump PERSON promised to immediatelyend the Biden PERSON administration's freeze on permits for new liquefied natural gas exports in a second term. He also pledged to start auctioning off more leases for oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and to reverse restrictions on drilling in the Alaskan Arctic. Experts said Trump PERSON's remarks at the dinner probably don't violate campaign finance laws as currently interpreted by the FEC and the Supreme Court. They said a violation would need to involve a clear quid pro quo in which Trump PERSON promised to take specific policy action in exchange for specific campaign contributions. So generally asking for campaign contributions and promising to have your back, they need to be more specific. This alone, quote, will probably not be enough to indicate the existence of a quid pro quo. That's Dan Weiner, director of elections and government at the Brennan Center for Justice in New York GPE. Trump PERSON, quote, was doing what candidates often do, which is saying, please give me money and I'll do things that I know you want. The brazenness is quite astonishing, though, and it certainly flies in the face of the spirit of the law, if not the letter. Former Obama White House ethics advisor Norm Eisen, a Trump PERSON critic and prominent supporter of the four criminal cases against him, agreed. Quote, I'm not saying it's a violation of the law, but it raisesserious questions, and it's a reminder of why we have those laws on books. All right, next up from Sarah K. Burris at Raw Story, MSNBC host, Jose Diaz-Balart, had a moment of disbelief about some of the statements for Michael Cohen PERSON while he was under oath in the hush money trial. Trump is facing 34 felony counts in Manhattan GPE for falsifying business records to cover up an alleged affair. Among the things Cohen claimed under oath was that the then president back in 2019 coordinated with the then Attorney General Bill Barr to grant immunity to longtime Trump organization CFO Alan Weisselberg PERSON to testify in Cohen PERSON's case.Quote, this is such an unusual case in every way. That's what Diaz-Balart PERSON said. But then, to be bombarded with all this information, I mean, this is such a public world. And thinking about the fact that this witness is saying that the Attorney General of the United States of America GPE was in cahoots with the President of the United States of America with his attorney is so, how do people process this? Professor Maya Wiley PERSON explained that this is the first criminal trial of Trump, and it's the first time the country has ever seen a former president be on trial.Quote, and it's relating to whether or not there was an effort to conceal an agreement to have an impact or to interfere with the very election this former president ran. It means everybody is kind of processing this. It's what does this really mean. That's what Wiley said to Diaz Ballard, who agreed. She said Trump's lawyer, Todd Blanche PERSON, must be sitting in court, well aware that he's carrying the weight of history on his shoulders. Legal analyst Alison Gill, oh, that's me, pointed to a 2018 report from the New York Times in which it was revealed that then Attorney General Bill Barr gave Trump's CFO Weisselberg PERSON immunity so he could testifyagainst Michael Cohen. Quote, pretty neat trick to shut him up in this case, said Gil PERSON. And for Madeline Greenberg at Democracy Docket ORG, a state court has rejected the Republican National Committee's attempt to upend election administration in Arizona GPE, a key state for the 2024 presidential election. And from Madeline Greenberg at Democracy Docket, Mark E. Elias's PERSON joint, a state court has rejected the RNC Republican National Committee's ORG attempt to upend election administration in Arizona, a key state for the 2024 presidential election. This decision marks the end of the road for a case brought by the RNC ORG in earlyFebruary that sought to invalidate the state's 2023 election procedures manual, the whole thing. The lawsuit brought by the RNC, Republican Party of Arizona and Yavapai County Republican Party ORG, alleged that Secretary of State ORG Adrian Fontez did not provide the public with enough notice or opportunity to comment before implementing the election procedures manual. And that that's in violation of Arizona's Administrative Procedures Act LAW.The case, which specifically targeted the state's election policies, pertaining to proof of citizenship requirements, mail-in voting, procedures, and signature verification, sought to create chaos ahead of the 2024 election by invalidating the state's guiding election administration document. The court rejected this effort, finding that the plaintiffs failed, quote, to state a claim upon which relief can be granted, and holding that the state's administrativeprocedure rules do not apply to the election procedures manual. As Arizona GPE prepares for the 2024 cycle, the right-wing litigants have made a habit of targeting election administration in the state. With the RNC ORG's case now closed, there are four active anti-voting lawsuits aimed at election administration, two of which are still challenging the state's EPM. Last month, a state court judge rejected a right-wing bid to upend mail-in voting procedures via two separate lawsuits targeting signature verification and drop boxes. So thank you. Thank you to Democracy Docket ORG. We know that democracy is on the docket. So definitely subscribe to Mark Elias' PERSON democracy docket. Next up from Jim Tankersley at the New York Times, President Biden announced Tuesday he's raising tariffs on an array of Chinese NORP imports, including electric vehicles, solar cells, semiconductors, and advanced batteries in what he calls an effort to protect strategic American NORP industries from a new wave of competitors that are unfairly subsidized by Beijing GPE.The president will also officially endorse maintaining tariffs on more than $300 billion worth of Chinese goods that were put in place by Donald Trump. Biden PERSON criticized those tariffs as taxes on American consumers in his 2020 run for the White House. Mr. Biden PERSON's moves are the latest trade war escalation from a president who initially pledged to repeal at least some of the Trump tariffs, but now refuses to cede any ground to his rival in a tough on China appeal to swing voters in the industrial Midwest and beyond. They also reflect Mr. Biden PERSON's efforts to buildon Trump's consensus-defying trade confrontation with China GPE while focusing it on sectors of strategic importance to the U.S. like clean energy and semiconductors. Quote, China GPE is determined to dominate these industries. I'm determined to ensure America GPE leads the world. That's what Biden said on Twitter. The increased tariffs will apply about $18 billion worth of annual imports from China GPE. That's according to White House officials. The biggest increase will be the quadrupling of tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles from 100 to 100% from 25%. The move is aimed at shielding a corner of the American NORP automotive industry that is in line to receive hundreds of billions of dollars in federal subsidies to help the U.S.transition to clean energy. Now, Biden PERSON is betting on his efforts to use government investments in heavy manufacturing, including electric vehicles and other green technologies, to create middle-class jobs and help win swing states that are home to parts of those industries. Biden PERSON also nodded to the politics of trade before the announcement, singling out states they expect benefit from tariffs. Quote, we know China's unfair practices have harmed communities in Michigan and Pennsylvania GPE and around the country that are now having the opportunity to come back due to President Biden PERSON's investmentagenda. That's Lale Bernard, who directs the White House National Economic Council ORG. Ms. Bernard also criticized the Trump administration ORG for what she called a failed effort to force China GPE to change unfair trade practices. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen PERSON, who previously criticized tariffs as taxes on consumers, said the new levies were justified now because of China GPE's excess industrial capacity and how it poses a threat to the U.S. GPE and its allies and to emerging markets. She said that the Biden administration would not allow cheap Chinese exports to harm American NORP workers. Quote, President Biden PERSON and I have seen firsthand the impacts of surges of certain artificially cheap Chinese imports on American NORP communities in the past, and we will not tolerate that again. That's what Ms. Yellen said, explaining that the tariffs were not intended to be anti-China NORP. Administration officials had long debated reducing some of Trump PERSON's tariffs, which applied to a large swath of products, including apparel and home lighting, while raising levies in more strategic areas. But officials pointed to a long-awaited mandatory review by Mr. Biden's trade representative, also set to be released on Tuesday, that concluded China's flouting of international trade rules necessitated keeping all the tariffs in place. The relative value of the goods, subject to Trump PERSON'soriginal tariffs compared with the much smaller value of the ones targeted by Biden PERSON, reflects a crucial difference in their competing approaches to trade with China GPE. Here's this crucial difference. Mr. Trump favored broad tariffs as a means of wielding leverage with China GPE, given that its export economy remains highly dependent on the American NORP consumer. While in office, he tried to use tariffs as a club to negotiate more favorable terms of trade between the countries and bring manufacturing jobs back to America with little to no success. Trump PERSON had promised to goeven further if he wins in November, restricting investment between the two countries and banning some Chinese products from the U.S. entirely. He also promised to go even further if he wins in November, restricting investment between the two countries and banning some Chinese products from the U.S. GPE entirely. He also promised to apply that approach more broadly by subjecting all imports regardless of their origin to an additional 10% tariff. The tariffs were praised by some, the Biden PERSON tariffs, were praised by some of the industries that have been hit hardest by Chinese NORP exports. Quote, as America GPE works to build our manufacturing in key clean energy supply chains to reduce the country's reliance on China GPE's supply chains,we need to use every tool at our disposal to boost the U.S. GPE solar manufacturing industry. And that's Mike Carr PERSON. He's the executive director for solar energy manufacturers for America coalition. He went on to say that the administration made the right decision to strengthen protections for solar components we seek to build in the U.S. Biden PERSON will also increase tariffs on some medical equipment that officials call essential for pandemic response, including face masks and surgical gloves. Administration officials cast those increases as an appropriate counter to unfair non-market practices by the Chinesegovernment, including state subsidies for factories, and what officials call theft of innovative ideas from foreign competitors. Quote, China GPE's forced technology transfers and intellectual property theft have contributed to its control of 70, 80, and even 90% of global production for the critical inputs necessary for our technologies, infrastructure, energy, and health care. And that's created unacceptable risks to American NORP supply chains and economy security. That's according to administration officials and a fact sheet distributed before this announcement from the Biden PERSON administration. A spokesman for China GPE's Foreign Affairs Ministry responding to a question about the tariffs said the ministry's daily news conference on Tuesday that China, quote, will take necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests. will take necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests. Many economists oppose tariffs because they tend to act as an effective tax on domestic consumers by raising prices. Administration officials said this week they did not expect these tariffs to add to price growth, which is already uncomfortably fast for many consumers because of how narrowly targeted they are. Union leaders and democratic lawmakers are expected to cheer the announcement, though, but some Democrats like Senator Sherrod Brown of, have already urged Mr. Biden to go further and ban Chinese NORP electric vehicles. So the unions are praising this. And I have one more important story about the rise in calls for violence in response to Trump PERSON attacking judges. But we do have to take a really quick break. So everybody, stick around. We'll be right back.

Speaker 61069.72s - 1077.72s

Hey, everybody. Welcome back. I wanted to read parts of this incredible story. It's a Reuters ORG special

Speaker 11077.72s - 2378.66s

report for you. It's by Peter Eisler, Ned Parker, and Joseph Tanfani PERSON. And it's called Trump PERSON blasts his trial judges. then his fans call for violence. And the lead here says when Donald Trump PERSON attacks the integrity of judges hearing cases against him, his followers often respond with posts, urging that the jurists be beaten, tortured, and killed. And the story starts on a recent Tuesday morning, a visibly frustrated Donald Trump PERSON sat through a tense hearing in the first ever criminal trial of a former American NORP president.During a break, he let rip on his social media platform. New York Justice Juan Mershahn, Trump PERSON declared on true social, is highly conflicted and he's overseeing a kangaroo court. Trump's supporters swiftly replied to his post with a blitz of attacks on Judge Mershahn PERSON. The comments soon turned ugly. Some called for Mershahn PERSON. The comments soon turned ugly. Some called for Mershahn and other judges hearing cases against Trump PERSON to be killed. Quote, treason is a hangable offense, one wrote. Quote, they should all be executed, added another. The April 23rd post by Trump PERSON and the menacing responses from his followers illustrate the incendiary impact of his angry and incessant broadsides against judges handling the criminal and civil suits against him. And his presidential campaign, as it intensifies, Trump PERSON has baselessly cast the judges and the prosecutors in his trials as corrupt puppets of the Biden administration bent on torpedoing his White House ORG bid. Here are just some comments. This judge must be arrested the minute Trump PERSON is inaugurated. Yep, I hope Trump PERSON has that judge hanged for treason.Punishment for treason is death. Needs to be strangled with piano wire before he makes it to the hangman. Gallows for traitors. Judge needs a hatchet to the face and his whore daughter. Wow. Those are all comments calling for violence against judges. The rhetoric isinspiring widespread calls for violence. In a review of commenters posts on three pro-Trump websites, including the former president's own true social platform, Reuters documented more than 150 posts since March 1 that called for physical violence against the judges handling three of his highest profile cases, two state judges in Manhattan and one in Georgia, overseeing a criminal case in which Trump PERSON is accusedof illegally seeking to overturn that state's 2020 election results. These posts were part of a larger pool of hundreds identified by Reuters that used hostile, menacing, and in some cases, racist or sexualized language to attack the judges, but stopped short of explicitly calling for violence against them. That's the bigger pool of hundreds of posts. Experts on extremism say that the constant repetition of threatening or menacing language can normalizethe idea of violence and increase the risk of someone carrying it out. Mitch Silber PERSON, a former New York City Police Department Director of Intelligence Analysis, compared to Trump supporters now calling for violence against judges to the U.S. Capitol ORG rioters who believed they were following Trump's, quote, marching orders on January 6th. Quote, this is just the 2023, 2024 iteration of that last phenomenon. That's what Silber PERSON said. Quote, articulating these ideas is the first step along a pathway of mobilizing to violence. Now, Trump's spokesperson, Stephen Chung PERSON, didn't respond to specific questions about the posts. Trump, the presumptive Republican NORP nominee, has a right to criticize what he calls unconstitutional witch hunts, Chung said. He also asserted without citing any examples that Trump PERSON has been the target of calls for despicable violence from Democrats NORP and crazed lunatics. Yeah, no. On Patriots.Win, an online forum that described itself as Trump PERSON's community of choice,Trump's attacks on the courts and judges regularly spur calls for violence too. Marchand PERSON, quote, needs to be strangled with piano wire. That's what one said. He deserves garritting in the street. That's another. The Gateway Pundit, a website influential in the pro-Trump ORG community,is also a frequent venue for Trump PERSON-inspired violent rhetoric against judges hearing cases. Quote, these judges and lawyers should hangfor perpetuating these fraud cases. That's what one commentator wrote on April 16th suggesting the executions would be, quote, an example for future generationsof judges and lawyers. Gateway Pundit ORG just filed for bankruptcy. The FBI and the New Gateway ORG pundit just filed for bankruptcy. The FBI and the New York Police Department ORG declined to comment on whether any threatening post directed to the New York GPE judges were under federal or local investigation. While Trump PERSON himself hasn't called for violence on judges, his language can signal to followers that judges are no different from partisan rivals worthy of scorn, derision, and attack, threatening the legitimacy of the independent judiciary. That's what experts on political violence say. Trump PERSON is constantly riling up his supporters to be angry on his behalf. That's Lillianna Mason, a John Hopkins PERSON. John Hopkins PERSON? It says John Hopkins PERSON in the article. I think it's Johns Hopkins University ORG, political scientist. Quote, he takes that large group of angry people. He points them in a direction, and then the judges get all these death threats. Now, Chung PERSON had no response to that analysis. That's the Trump PERSON spokesperson. And the posts also illustrate a shift in the way violent language is being expressed online by Trump followers. In 2021, Reuters ORG documented a wave of threats by Trump supporters targeting U.S. GPE election workers. Legal experts found that many had met the legal standard for prosecutable threats, which typically requires language or context that reflects a clear intent to act or instill fear rather than simply suggesting a frightening outcome. In contrast, the current barrage ofpro-Trump ORG threats generally stop short of that red line. Posters often call for violence without explicitly stating they intend to commit it themselves. Such language is usually defensible as constitutionally protected free speech, but experts say it can have the same effect as a direct threat to intimidate and so fear. And, you know, earlier on, they said, you keep repeating it over and over again, and it makes violence more acceptable. On February 29th, Reuters published an investigation into death threats targeting mostly federal judges involved in Trump PERSON-related cases, including threats those judges receivedpersonally. For this story, Reuters examined three prominent pro-Trump websites to assess the prevalence of violent online posts directed at the state judges handling some of the highest profile cases against Trump. Here are some more pictured here. A rope in a tree would fit this guy, responding to Charlie Kirk PERSON. He'd look good hanging from a noose, responding to Gateway Pundit ORG, put the target on this puk, responding to the conservative, and he should be recused from living. That's in a response to Donald Trump PERSON.The judges in both Trump's New York GPE cases issued gag orders, barring him from attacking judicial staff, and in Mershahn PERSON's order, witnesses, jurors, and family members of the judge and prosecutors. On April 30th, Mershahn held Trump in criminal contempt for violating those gag orders, one of them, and fined him $9,000 and warned that he could be jailed for further infractions. On May 6th, Judge Mershahn fined Trump an additional thousand for a subsequent violation. His April order noted, the singular power that Trump PERSON's derisive statements and social media posts have to inspire his followers instill fear in his targets and endanger the rule of law. The judge has warned that he could impose jail time for any additional violations by the former presidentwho calls the gag order's election interference. Reuters examined more than 1,800 posts by Trump PERSON on truth social from March 1st to April 30th. And at least 129 of them, he attacked judges handling his cases in New York GPE, Georgia, and other jurisdictions, either in his own words or by reposting critical comments or videos from supporters or others. Much of his anger is focused on Judge Mershon PERSON, who is presiding over his criminal prosecution on charges that he violated New York GPE lawby falsifying business records to conceal a sex scandal to interfere with the 2016 election. Trump also frequently attacks New York GPE Justice Arthur Angoran PERSON, who ruled in February during a separate civil trialthat Trump PERSON committed fraud by inflating his property values on financial documents. And Trump has appealed that verdict. That was the $175 million bond. Trump PERSON often labels both judges corrupt and conflicted and falsely accuses them of taking orders from President Joe Biden PERSON. And as state judges, they were not appointed by the presidentwho has no authority over them. Trump PERSON's comments and reposts on true social often trigger a furious response from his supporters. At least 152 posts on three pro-Trump websites in March and April urged the beating or killing of Mershon or Angkoran in New York or Judge Scott McAfee in Georgia. Reuters found at least 65 of those were on true social, about half in replies to the former president's posts, and the rest weresplit about evenly between Gateway Pundit and Patriots.Win. All three sites have comment policies, discouraging, threatening, or violent rhetoric. Truth Social's terms of service forbid users from writing posts that are filthy, violent, harassing, libelous, or slanderous, or advocate, incite, encourage, or threaten physical harm against another. That's wacky because that's all they do. A true social spokesman said the company works expeditiously to remove posts that violate those standards. Gateway Pundit and Patriots.Win ORG didn't respond to a request for comment. There was evidence on each site that at least some comments had been removed. However, most of the posts advocating violence stayed up on those sites for days or weeks. Three experts in violent political speech reviewed the posts and documents by Reuters ORG, including Jonathan Leder Maynard, a London-based political extremism expert who said many of them echo the quasi-fascist language used by lone wolf terrorists to justify their bloodshed. Politically motivated harassment of judges is not exclusive to the political right. Left-wing activists have protested at the homes of judges who have restricted abortion rights.A California man was accused of traveling to Justice Brett Kavanaugh PERSON's home, intending to kill him. Nicholas John Roski PERSON has pled not guilty to a charge of attempted assassination. The plea negotiations are ongoing. Roski PERSON's lawyer didn't reply to a request for comment. I don't know that that equals the other stuff. It's not exclusive to the political right, sure. But it sure is heavy in that direction. A Reuters ORG examination of websites catering to the left revealed dozens of hostile comments attacking the competence and credibility of conservative jurists. The targets include Judge Eileen Cannon, Trump appointee, who has issued a number of rulings favorable to Trump and an ongoing federal prosecution in Florida GPE. On Democratic Underground, a liberal site, posters have attacked Cannon PERSON as corrupt and suggested she be tried for espionageage. That's a little different from hanging and garreting and a hatchet to the face. They go on to say a review of comments on those sites did not reveal the sort of violent language that Trump PERSON supporters use in their online posts. Calls to execute judges picked up in April on pro-Trump PERSON sites when Mershahn began hearing Trump's prosecution for trying to hide a hush money payment in order to interfere in an election. He should be recused from living. One Trump PERSON supporter wrote of Mershahn began hearing Trump's prosecution for trying to hide a hush money payment in order to interfere in an election. He should be recused from living, one Trump supporter wrote of Mershahn in an April 14th post on Truth Social ORG. That comment, another calls for violence cited in this story, were posted anonymously.Mershawne, 61, has served on a criminal bench since 2009. Grew up in New York City, borough of Queens, also Trump PERSON's boyhood home, began his career as an assistant district attorney in Manhattan, the office now prosecuting Trump. In 2022, Mershant presided over a tax fraud conviction for Trump's business, ordering his company to pay $1.6 million. That's a 17 felony count thing. That was Mershant, too. Last year, he sentenced Trump PERSON's longtime chief financial officer Weisselberg to five months in prison after his conviction on tax fraud. Now, Trump also has directed vitriol at Mershahn's daughter, Lauren Mershahn, an executive at Authentic, a digital marketing agency that works with Democratic NORP candidates. Trump PERSON has said the judge is conflicted because of his daughter's work and should recuse himself. Pictures of Mershant's daughter featured regularly in broadsides by Trump PERSON supporters on truth social. Some mocked her physical appearance, some called for her arrest, on one website,an avowed white supremacist published personal information about both Mershaw PERSON and his daughter, including his home addresses and the judge's phone number. Last June, the New York Advisory Committeeon Judicial Ethics ruled that Mershans PERSON' impartiality cannot reasonably be questioned based on his daughter's work for Democratic NORP campaigns. Trump filed a motion last year, saying that he should recuse himself because of what his daughter does.He said, I'll go ask the commission. They came back and said, you don't have to recuse yourself. A spokesperson for the New York courts, Al Baker, hi, Al, it's me, Allison PERSON, we texted back and forth. I'm at the trial. Al Baker said both Marshan and Angoran have, quote, been subject to threats Allison PERSON. We texted back and forth. I'm at the trial. Al Baker said both Mershon and Engoran PERSON have, quote, been subject to threats and have so of many other judges. And their safety is the utmost priority. He declined to elaborate on security arrangements.Lauren Mershon PERSON did not respond to request for comment. Now, Angaron, we're going to Judge Angeron now, 74, has also been bombarded with invectives from Trump PERSON and threats from his supporters. A New York court security officer reported in a sworn statement last year that Engoran and his staff had received hundreds of threatening and harassing messages, including some lace with profanity and anti-Semitic insults against the judge who is Jewish NORP. The hostile communication spiked after Trump attacked the credibility of Angoran PERSON and his clerkon true social. Now, quote, resign now, you dirty treasonous piece of trash snake. That's one voicemail left at his chambers and included among a half dozen quoted in the security officer's statement. Quote, we are coming to remove you permanently as another one. As a Democrat, Angkoran was elected in 2015 to the state Supreme Court and has been a judge for two decades. He has drawn the former president's ire and rage after repeatedly ruling against him in civil business fraud suit filed by New York Attorney General Tish James PERSON.And Goran ultimately ordered Trump to pay $454 million in disgorgement fines. The judge issued a gag order last October after Trump shared on social media a photo of Engeron's law clerk posing with U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer PERSON and falsely describing her as Schumer's girlfriend. And Goron barred Trump PERSON for making any statements disparaging court staff. The judge fined Trump PERSON twice for violating that order, quote, the threat of an actual violence resulting from heated political rhetoric is well documented. That's what Engaron wrote in November. Angkoran received a fake bomb threat at his home in January, and an unknownthreatner sent an envelope containing a white powder to his chambers the following month. In a March 22nd post on Truth Social, Trump PERSON labeled him corrupt, radical left judge in New York, a Trump PERSON hater at the highest level, and called by his supporters for the judge's death came quickly. One poster on truth social said Engaron should be hanged. Another one in him executed. Online rage thundered for days accompanied by appeals for violence.Quote, he should be skinned alive, bobbed in a vat of alcohol, then dipped in honey before being staked to an ant hill. That's a March 25 post about Engoran on Patriots ORG. Now, the threats aren't limited to New York. As state courts in Colorado, Illinois GPE, and Georgia have taken up Trump-related cases, at least four judges in those states have faced threats or harassment according to interviews with court and law enforcement officials and a review of social media posts. State courts typically provide judges with far less protection than their counterpartsreceive on the federal bench, where some Trump PERSON-related cases have also landed. Georgia's Judge McAfee presiding in the election interference case against Trump PERSON is among the targets. Fulton County prosecutors charged Trump PERSON with illegally pressuring officials to overturn the state's 2020 presidential election. McAfee PERSON has received less attention from Trumpthan the New York GPE judges. Trump has repeatedly denounced Fulton County DA Fannie Willis, though, who brought the case, but has refrained from criticizing McAfee PERSON by name. But after the judge denied his motion to dismiss Willis PERSON over her romantic relationshipwith Nathan Wade, Trump posted two Fox News videos, one of his spokespeople and a legal analyst assailing the decision. And Trump backers quickly turned on McAfee PERSON. Judge McAfee should be hanged, one comment suggested on Gateway Pundit ORG. After a subsequent decision, again denying Trump PERSON's request for a dismissal, more violent comments followed. These people need gutting like We Do Fish. One identified commenter wrote beneath another Gateway Pundit ORG post about McAfee's decision. McAfee and Willis PERSON did not respond for comment to this story. And even when Trump PERSON himself does not single out judges for criticism, supporters often threaten and harass judges who rule against the former president's interest. In late February, in Illinois circuit court judge in Chicago, Tracy Porter ruled that Trump PERSON should be unable tostand on the primary ballot because of his role in the 2021 capital attack. Furious at that decision, Trump supporters targeted Porter PERSON with violent online messages and medicine calls to her office. Now, as head of the state martial program, Sima Rosa, Jim Simaosa, oversees security for Illinois GPE' highest-ranking judges and maintains a statewide database on threats. The threats against Porter PERSON haven't been previously reported. These are new. In the days after Porter's ruling, the Illinois Marshals program saw a rise in threats against other state judges, that's according to Simaosa PERSON, describing it as a copycat bump. Threats against the judiciary often climb whenanother judge is attacked in a high-profile case. Porter PERSON's ruling was later nullified by the U.S. Supreme Court. Trump didn't mention Porter by name, but in a March 4th speech, he criticized states that didn't want him on the ballot and rogue judges. A Cook County Circuit court spokesperson said Porter PERSON could not comment due to the aspects of the case that continued to be litigated. He said the judiciary and law enforcement give high priority to protecting judges. Quote, we have a lot, a lot of threats, Simorosa PERSON said, citing nearly 18% increase in threats to his state's courts so far in 2024. And it's escalating, he said.At least 25 states have state-run security programs that provide services like threat assessment and physical protection for judges. But most state and local judges across the country rely on sheriffs or the cops to respond to request for protection. In a survey of nearly 400 mostly state judges by the National Judicial College, that's an education group, nearly eight out of 10 agreed that it's becoming more dangerous to be a judge. The survey completed in 2022 and made available to Reuters in advance of publication later this year, also found that more than 70% of respondents had received harassing or menacing communications. New Mexico judge Francis Matthew told Reuters he received dozens of threatening messages after ruling that Cooey Griffin PERSON,that's the Otero County Commissioner who founded Cowboys for Trump ORG, was ineligible to hold public office because he participated in January 6th. On the day of his ruling in September 2022, Matthew received one email calling for his execution and another that included his home address, according to communications shared with Reuters ORG. Griffin PERSON said in an interview, Cooie, that he and his family have also received threats and that he never called for violence against Matthew PERSON. As far as threats and stuff goes, that's something that's out of my control, he said. Although Trump PERSON has not criticized him on social media, Matthew blames Trump PERSON for orchestrating the deluge of threats targeting judges. Quote,Trump PERSON's behavior is teaching people that they can do these things. Chung, Trump PERSON spokesperson, didn't respond to that claim. Much of the violent rhetoric documented by Reuters ORG illustrates a phenomenon identified by social scientists. Online communities catering to specific political views can create an echo chamber where participants spur each other to increasingly extreme posts. In pro-Trump forums, when someone pushes the norm, quote of what's considered acceptablespeech by posting a call to execute judges or other public officials, and if nobody questions it, then the norm of what's acceptable shifts. That's Kathy Berger PERSON, who studies inflammatory rhetoric at the nonpartisan dangerous speech project in Washington GPE. Berger reviewed the violent posts identified by Reuters ORG. in Washington. Berger reviewed the violent posts identified by Reuters ORG.One says, a face only a fist could love, and then somebody responded to that saying, or a steel-toed boot. The pattern emerged in a series of gateway pundit comments posted April 2nd. In response to an article criticizing far-left judge Juan Mershawne, one reader referred to a photo of the jurist by saying a face only a fist could love or a steel-toed boot, as I said. A third person wrote or an aluminum bat and then another poster up the ante.Cult combat commander 45 PRODUCT. So as you can see, the experts talking about how they goad each other on to increase the extreme, like the extreme nature of their posts and they up the ante each time shifting what's normal. I think that's so important. And then there's a really cool interactive piece on here with how Trump PERSON posts can trigger calls forviolence. It's very well done. It's on Reuters ORG. I really recommend you check out this piece and this interactive part. You can actually see the posts on here. So if you go to Trump PERSON, if you Google, Trump PERSON blasts his trial judgesand Reuters ORG, R-E-U-T-R-S, you can go and see this piece, interact with it. I think it's a very important piece. So please check it out. And after that, we definitely need some good news. And we'll have it right after this break. Stick around. We'll be right back. Everybody, welcome back. It's time for the good news. Who likes good news, everyone? Then good news, you want to play what the mutt, find the cat, opine and the bovine, what the shell.

This appears to be St. Mary's Church in Painswood GPE. And the bovine is the furry cow. And I love these guys. I actually know this. These fluffy cows are my favorite. They're highland cows. I think, I hope so cows are my favorite. They're Highland cows. I think. I hope so. Let's see. Yeah, Highland cows. And they're just so cute. I wrote a few months ago about being lucky enough to provide two mares a home for their retirement. Yes, yes, yes, from the barn where my daughter worked and took lessons. Well, it turns out when you have two horses, one goes mad when you're taking the other out to ride. Where's my friend?I can't see her. Oh, my God, I'm dying. So we found them a foster brother. He's still getting to know his sisters. So no news yet on whether he'll solve the problem. But we're thrilled to welcome him to our little herd. He's adorable. I love this photo. That's so interesting. When you take the one out to go riding, the other one freaks out. Oh my gosh. That's adorable. Separation anxiety for horses. All right. Next up from Christine M. No,ongy M. The part that could be done extempore for it is nothing but roaring. Note that he's not allowed on the counter, but he don't acknowledge my foolish human laws. And he hissed at me when I made him get down.Nailed the roaring part. What a beautiful baby. I love how when the black cats have the secret brown fur when the sun gets on them. Thank you for that. Great name too. Great pull, Christy PERSON. Next up, Susan, pronoun she and her. Good morning, good beans. I thought these would be the perfect picks for Dana PERSON. My partner called this the Beagle Mind Meld PRODUCT. We think they were making plans on bringing the hose into the house and my grandson turning on the water. We got quote, Hurricane Sassy, the incorrigible one in April of 2022. I had lost my black lab a year earlier. And for my birthday, my partner said, do you want an engagement ring or a puppy? I said, I don't need a ring.I need a puppy. And we got her when my grandson was one, so it was kind of perfect. As for her name origin, she was the runt of the litter and described as sassy. My fiance calls his daughter the hurricane, so we added that. I had a jerk of a boss who we called incorrigible, so we added that because he didn't like women working in his field. At the time, it pissed me off, but then I embraced it. Screw you, Mike. Damn right, I'm incorrigible. And here's Sassy and my now three-year-old grandson doing the Beagle PRODUCT mind meld. Oh my God. I was wondering what that was going to be. I was on my daily phone call with my daughter, and we were discussing the massive slapdown that Marjorie Taylor Green received in a recent attempt to oust Speaker Johnson PERSON, and I stated that I hoped it would send a message to MTG ORG, that she doesn't have the power she imagines, and maybe this would stop her fromtrying again. And my daughter followed with, I doubt it, she really puts the turd in undeterred. Quick wit is one of my favorite things about my kids, aside from the fact that they're both just quality people. We will all be voting together in November as I've been trying to bring everybody I love with me for a few years now. I love this, Angela PERSON. That is such a great joke. She puts the turd and undeterred. That is fantastic. Amazing. The only ever good one I ever heard of putting the something in the something. I had actually said to my friend that she puts the whore and horticulture. She was gardening and I thought that was funny. And then a friend of mine, when I was back when I was a comedian, said that I put thelaughter in slaughter, which I thought was very clever. But this is perfect, the turd and undeterred. Thank you.
