Any of the above? Where you got?
Speaker 9209.4s - 211.42s
I think you might know the answer to that.
Speaker 8212.38s - 219.1s
I have a guess, but I didn't know for sure. The fastest two minutes in sports, will you be partaking? I will not.
Speaker 9219.6s - 225.76s
I'll actually be at the lake this weekend, so... Ooh. Won't have time. I'll probably be out of water somewhere.
Speaker 8226.18s - 337.86s
But I hope the best horse wins. Yeah, yeah, me too. Me too. So as everybody knows by now, horses have weird names. And maybe the official horse of the Shane Dennis show, Jack, is a 2012 derby winner. I'll have another. But a lot of these other horses' names are either some combination of funny, weird. I don't understand why they named them that or all the above. We already talked about Barbaro the other day. We did. Because Barbaro PERSON checked out after a race. But you got weird horses' names.Smarty Jones won the Kentucky Derby in 2004. Mind That Bird. We talked about Mind That bird earlier this week. That horse, he or she, I don't know what, won in 2009. But I want to ask Jack PERSON if he could tell me the difference between fake horses and real horses. between fake horses and real horses. So of this list that I'm about to quiz Jack PERSON with, he's going to decide that if he knows the difference between a real Kentucky, not just a real horse, but a real Kentucky Derby Horse EVENT. The ones that are real have been in the last two Derby Horse. The ones that are real have been in the last two derbies. And the ones that are fake, car, just that. So, Jack PERSON, you ready to go? You ready to roll the dice here?
Speaker 9338.02s - 338.72s
Let's roll the dice.
Speaker 13339.18s - 339.66s
All right.
Speaker 9340.04s - 344.6s
Here is your first horse. You tell me, fake or real?
Speaker 8346.18s - 363.4s
Thunderfire. Fake. Correct. It is fake. The next horse, fake or real? Oblivion.Sounds real. Not real.
Speaker 13363.8s - 366.84s
Fake. Next horse.
Speaker 8366.96s - 373.4s
Real or fake? Encino. I'm going to go real.
Speaker 9373.94s - 374.36s
Yes.
Speaker 8374.64s - 410.02s
It was a real horse within the last two derbies. Verifying real or fake? Let's go real It is a real horse Yes Next horseSkinner Real or fake Let's go fake No it's a real horse Next horse Name Charmer PERSON Real or fake? fake. No, it's a real horse. Next horse name.Charmer PERSON. Real or fake?
Speaker 9410.02s - 411.94s
That sounds so real, but I'm going to go fake.
Speaker 8412.3s - 423.58s
Yeah, it's a fake horse. That's right. I generated it myself. Next up. And these have to do, these next couple have to do with the elements.
Speaker 9428.04s - 430.04s
Real or fake, fake jack lightning sparkle
Speaker 8435.42s - 445.62s
feel like that one's to throw me off thinking it's fake but it's real no it's fake how about sun thunder real or fake real or fake? Real. It is real.
Speaker 9445.92s - 446.26s
Yes.
Speaker 8446.42s - 448.36s
It was a derby horse in the last couple of years.
Speaker 22450.22s - 451.78s
How about stronghold?
Speaker 8453s - 477.06s
Good name. Real. It is real. Yeah. Right on both counts. Good name and real.Catalytic. I'll go real again. It is real. Yeah, you are doing quite well. I don't know what your record is, but you're well above 500. It is about 500.
Speaker 9477.24s - 478.82s
It is above 500. That's all I care about. Yeah.
Speaker 8480.66s - 481.12s
Pizzazz.
Speaker 9481.92s - 482.74s
Real or fake.
Speaker 8482.74s - 488.28s
Man, that is such a toss-up. That is such a horse name.
Speaker 9489.84s - 491.48s
Oh, I'll go real.
Speaker 8491.96s - 494.34s
Not a burby horse.
Speaker 9494.52s - 495.6s
No, not real.
Speaker 8497.82s - 500s
Not to be confused with the...
Speaker 9502s - 502.5s
The...
Speaker 8502.5s - 521.08s
Reindeer. Blitzen PRODUCT. Is Blitzen PRODUCT a real horse? Got to be fake. Fake, yes. Real or fake?Horse name. Track Phantom.
Speaker 9522.3s - 526.64s
It's a great name. Great, great name. I'm going to go real.
Speaker 8527.38s - 550.3s
It is real. And finally, real or fake happenstance? Real. Not real. Damn, damn, damn. Have you ever heard an explanation of why horses get the crazy names that they have? Do you know?
Speaker 9550.5s - 561.24s
I do not. I actually, growing up, I used to be a very big horse kid. I didn't, I mean, like not, like, obsessed with them, but I'd always go to the petting zoo,
Speaker 0561.3s - 571.4s
and there was an area where you could ride horses, and that was, like, one of my fascinations when I was growing up. And the one horse that would always ride was named Danny Boy.
Speaker 9572.9s - 586.3s
And that's kind of when I got this, I guess, idea that all horses have these very outlandish names. And I don't know if it's like, it has to come from a old school way of thinking like it's
Speaker 8586.3s - 592.86s
just uh you know it sounds very like 19 10s some some of them are one some of one word names
Speaker 9592.86s - 600.26s
some of them are three words like fusaichi pegasus back in 2000 go for gin 1994 thunder
Speaker 0600.26s - 607.46s
gulch i mean some of them are really cool and so i don't understand why, and I know some of the names have been taken,
Speaker 8607.54s - 611.86s
some of the cool names have been taken, but man, those are head scratchers, most of these.
Speaker 9612.4s - 617.76s
I think, too, they also want it to stand out on, like, a piece of paper when you're betting.
Speaker 8618.26s - 627.64s
It's like, oh, I, they're not all, like, for instance, if it was, I don't know, like Danny or Bill or Reggie PERSON,
Speaker 9628.2s - 629.18s
would be like, oh, which one?
Speaker 8629.18s - 633.9s
Like, no, you, you would know, what was it, Fusaichi Pegasus PERSON?
Speaker 9634.02s - 635.34s
Speaker 8635.6s - 636.76s
Speaker 9636.76s - 641.74s
I guarantee you, everybody knew what Fusaiichi Pegasus PERSON looked like.
Speaker 8641.94s - 643.06s
Same with Barbaro PERSON.
Speaker 9643.44s - 644.74s
Same with Seabiscuit PERSON.
Speaker 0645.24s - 646s
Same with Secretariat. Like, with Seabiscuit PERSON. Same with
Speaker 9646s - 646.74s
Speaker 8647.86s - 649.08s
Like, you just knew
Speaker 0649.08s - 651.46s
what that horse looked like. So I wonder if it was the
Speaker 9651.46s - 663.48s
way of, like, you just have to differentiate all of them. They've all got to have these elongated, gorgeous, beautiful namesand also some that are pretty badass. Let's be honest. Like, track phantom.
Speaker 8664.92s - 666s
Spectacular bid.
Speaker 9666.6s - 666.84s
Yep.
Speaker 8667.04s - 668.1s
Genuine risk.
Speaker 9669.22s - 671.3s
Seattle Slew back in the 70s.
Speaker 8671.86s - 815.42s
Seattle Slew actually won the Derby, won the Triple Crown, and so did the Secretariat PRODUCT. But, man. I don't know, that's also a rich man's sport. You've got to have a little coin to have a horse in the Kentucky Derby EVENT. All right, there you go. There's your faker reel Kentucky Derby EVENT version.Jack PERSON did quite well, very, very well. We might have to go back through the podcast to see how many he actually got. But there were seven fake ones and seven real ones. So we split it up 50-50, but Jack PERSON did quite well. I've been wrestling with this task, I suppose, and that is Best Actors Tournament EVENT,and this is far tougher than you think it is I've come up with 16 but had to leave probably six or eight guys off I say I come up with a week's worth of greatest actors everBut I'm afraid I'm going to have to If we do it I don't know if we'll do it or not I haven't decided yet But if we do it, I don't know if we'll do it or not, I haven't decided yet. But if we do a best actor tournament, then I, man, you could almost come up with a field of 64. That's overkill? We're not going to do that. Don't worry. We wouldn't go past a field of 16 in greatest actors. But I thought that would be Zach Shanline PERSON, a guy we work with, one of our AEs.He came up with the idea, and I got to 16, but had to trim off about six or eight that all you guys and gals would be clamoring for if I left them off. So that is still TBA.That's still in the hopper. I don't know if we're going to do that or not. It'll be fun if we do, but it'll be maddening for me if we do also because some great actors are going to have to get left off the list. But that's TBA. We'll kick around those ideas a little bit later on. All right. When we come back, we talk a little Royals ORG baseball. Steve Stewart from the Royals Radio Network ORG. We'll join us. Talk about Salvi's Hot Street ORG. We'll talk about thevi's hot streak. We'll talk about the pitching philosophy and how it's changed from last year to thisand all things, Kansas City Royals ORG. Steve Stewart PERSON from the Royal's Radio Network coming up next as we continue on from Twin Peaks West FAC.

All right, welcome back.
Speaker 81013.76s - 1040.38s
It's 119. Royals are back home after a much-deserved day off. They split that road trip in Detroit and Toronto GPE. They're back home at the K tonight, 640 first pitch with Brady Singer PERSON on the Hill for the good guys. We jump on the hotline right now with that in mind. And Royals Radio Network's own, Steve Stewart PERSON joins us.Boy, Steve, I would imagine right about now, it's pretty good to be associated with the Royals ORG. How about that first 32 games, huh?
Speaker 151042.5s - 1064.56s
Well, Shane PERSON, it's been fantastic. In fact, just the fact you're having me on right now, and I appreciate it, I love Wichita GPE, I love going on with you, but it does a lot more about the Royals ORG. It does about me, and that's okay, because all of us, whether it's Jake or Rino or Denny or Joel or Monty PERSON, everybody among our broadcasters, you know,
Speaker 01064.66s - 1068.88s
the nice thing is people want us on to sing the praises of what this team is doing.
Speaker 151069.46s - 1087.34s
And I got to tell you, it's been a while since that was the case. I mean, that means you have a team that a lot of people are paying attention to. And this team, it's only been a month. We'll see who the heck knows what's going to happen. But it has really been a fun first, you know, five weeks or whatever it's been.
Speaker 81088.18s - 1117.68s
No doubt. I want to get your perspective on the streak that Salvador Perez PERSON is on right now. He's always been a guy that isn't too particular about what he swings at, but the difference between, I don't know, years past and now is you can't get him out. And this is a really long streak that he's been on. Is there been anything that you've noticed or that Salvi said? Or is he just in one of those grooves right now where the ball looks really big?And that's what most hot hitters will tell you.
Speaker 151118.1s - 1128.98s
I think it's a combination of things that definitely he's hot right now, and that's just human. I mean, he isn't playing like the human being right now, but we know he is a human being right now.
Speaker 01129.4s - 1134.74s
And always, by the way, because, you know, every player has ups and downs during the year.
Speaker 151135.16s - 1230.84s
It's always great when you do it out of the gate. In our case, this fans, we'd love to see him be an All-Star again. So doing it right now, plants that seed and a lot of minds around the country about the fact that this guy, you know, does great on big stages, and we'd love to see him in the All-Star game this year.I don't know because, you know, baseball is such a quirky sport and a day-to-day sport. You just never know for sure because, you know, the old saying about teaching an old dog new tricks. You know, Salvi's never been a guy that has been very patient at the plate. And, you know, he's always swung a lot of bad balls to find a way to get hit. But he does seem at least early this year to be a little bit more patient. You know, he's 33. He'll be 34 soon. And, you know, if he can stay healthy, that's a big gift for anybody, especially a guy who plays catcher, the physical beating that he takes all the time. But, you know, it feels like he's getting better as he gets older. It's just a matter of staying on the field. So, yeah, he's just been on everything. He seems to be laying off more bad pitches thanwe're used to seeing. So I just hope that can continue as long as possible. And most of all, I just want to see him stay healthy because whether he's catching, whether he's first base, whether he's D.H, it's just a joy to see him. You know, and he has joy even when the team's losing 100 games because he loves to play baseball and he just joy, even when the team's losing 100 games, because he loves to play baseball and he just loves people so much. But to be part of something that is
Speaker 01230.84s - 1235.62s
winning for now, and hopefully it's going to continue, it really, really feels good to see.
Speaker 81236.28s - 1276.06s
And isn't it interesting, Steve PERSON, this strikes me and jumps off the page of me when I watch the games, is that during this, well, during the entire month, really, let's be frank, any time that the Royals ORG won a game, it seemed like whenever they needed a hit, whenever there's a runner in scoring position, the guys that were hot were coming up. It was Salvi coming up or Bobby Witt PERSON was coming up or in this last road trip's case, Vinny PERSON came up and came up with some big hits. It's one thing to get guys on there, but it's another to get guys on there in front of the guys that are really doing it for you. And that seems to be the tonic right now. And I know you can't control that in baseball, but boy, you've got to ride that while it last, don't you?
Speaker 151276.68s - 1316.74s
Oh, you better believe it. And it's been against, you know, against some good teams and, you know, a lot of it on the road as well. The Royals were around the 500, a little under 500 on the road, but they've been very competitive on the road. Obviously, they've been dominant at home. And, yeah, it's, it's, there is some good fortune there, I guess, with the right guys being up at the right time. And, you know, you're never going to have, or you're rarely going to have everybody on the team caught all at once. You know, Ned Yose used to say, you know, you hope to have, you know, three guys, two, three, four guys who can be reasonably hot at the same time while the other guys are hopefully getting ready to get hot when these guys cool off.
Speaker 131316.88s - 1319.36s
You know, you just kind of hope that cycles.
Speaker 151319.44s - 1348.8s
And guys like MJ Melendez, he started the year red hot. And he has been very quiet for the last couple of weeks. Nelson Velasquez PERSON is kind of the same thing. Then he started very cold. Then he got white hot for a couple of weeks. Then he cooled back down, but he's beginning to come back to life again. So I'll tell you, though, Bobby and Salvi, we all know. They've been the two guys that have just, you know, they've walked out of the furnace hot and they've stayed that way so far the whole time.
Speaker 81349.58s - 1378.16s
Talking to Steve Stewart-Royles Radio Network ORG. They're back at it tonight at the K-640, Brady Singer, the pitcher. I'll only talk about the pitching here in a second, but we talked about those guys that maybe aren't as hot as Q would want them to be. Is there any of the handful of, I don't know, MJ, Renfro, Isbel PERSON that you see or you hear them talk, that you feel like they are close to breaking out? Is there anybody that's kind of seemingly right on the surface right now in your mind?
Speaker 151378.86s - 1411.06s
Well, you know, MJ PERSON's been hitting the ball hard of late, and he's been hitting some hard out and some hard foul balls. You know, we all know anybody that's seen him hit. He's really got a beautiful swing, you know, when his timing's all working and it's all connected the way it can when he can hit the ball a long way. So, you know, it feels like maybe he, you know, his father was a college coach and his coach growing up. He was on that last road trip.We were on Merville, you know, MJ, MS GPE, I guess, senior.
Speaker 131411.96s - 1416.78s
And so, you know, I'm hoping in MJ PERSON's case he can, you know,
Speaker 151416.82s - 1439.94s
the great thing about when the team's winning and you slump, you know, it's like Vinny PERSON, like the first couple of weeks when Vinny PERSON couldn't get much going, you know, he kept his attitude good, he worked really hard, he played really good defense, he contributed in other ways. MJ PERSON's been doing the same thing. He's been making really good plays and laughing at the first spring break. First spring training.
Speaker 131441.54s - 1443.22s
That he, well, both, right?
Speaker 151443.42s - 1450.94s
For a lot of years, it was spring break. For him, it was spring training training but it was the first spring training where he ever went in there as an outfielders you know
Speaker 131450.94s - 1459.5s
I mean even a year ago he went in as a catcher and kind of a combo you know and this you know he spent the whole office he's working on outfield
Speaker 151459.5s - 1466.08s
and all spring working on it and he's obviously improved out there he's more to learn, because he's learning it at the major league level,
Speaker 131466.16s - 1467.06s
but he's gotten a lot better.
Speaker 151467.56s - 1516.5s
And for guys who are struggling at the plate, obviously, when you can find other ways to contribute, and you can contribute to winning, even if it's not with your bat all the time, you know, I think it makes slumps easier to handle and maybe a little easier to come out of. And, MJ, you know, just like Renfro PERSON, he's been making great place in right field. He's a great arm through the guy out at the second the other day. You know, he's been doing that all year. Adam Frazier PERSON, same thing. Now, he's been getting on base, and he's begun to get more hits. He hasn't homered yet, but he's been more of his hits are falling in, but Adam PERSON's been drawing walks, getting on base. And also we've seen he's really an infielder, but look what he's doing in the outfield on this last road trip. So a lot of guys are, you know, that's part of a winning team. It's like, you know, you can have an 0 for 5 and still really contribute in a positive way to a win.
Speaker 81517.58s - 1548.12s
You know, I saw something the last couple of days at that double the Bobby Witt Jr. PERSON hit down the left field line in the last game of that Blue J. Series was the farthest that he's pulled the ball this year. And normally when you say so-and-so isn't pull-happy, that's a good thing. And I think it's a good thing that Bobby Witt Jr. isn't pull-happy. Is there anything concerning or chatter around the clubhouse about him not pulling the ball more, or should we just leave well enough alone
Speaker 151548.12s - 1580.44s
here? Yeah, I think you know, a lot of hitters as they mature and they they're around the league many times, you know, they pull more as they age and allthat sort of thing. But, you know, there are hitters, you know, Albert Pujols PERSON, Miguel Cabrera PERSON, they always use the whole field. And obviously, both Hall of Fame ORG players, right, or will be. And so, you know, Bobby PERSON, you know, if he can, whatever works, I mean, you know, in Bobby's
Speaker 01580.44s - 1587.84s
case, he has something, those guys didn't have that great speed. So any ball that drops in, so the more opportunities he has for balls to drop in, I'm all
Speaker 151587.84s - 1604.76s
four. And I think, you know, and a lot of it's just how he's pitched, and so he can adjust. And when they're not, and they're not going to come in on him, you know, he's going to go the other way. But the other nice thing is that, especially the outfielders, they pretty much have, he keeps them honest. They can't really, they can't really play
Speaker 131604.76s - 1605.62s
them one way or another,
Speaker 81605.74s - 1607.76s
and that's going to open up more green grass for them.
Speaker 131608.28s - 1610.96s
Talking Royals with Royals Radio Network's Steve Stewart PERSON.
Speaker 81611.2s - 1614.8s
The Royals are back home against Texas this weekend, 640 first pitch.
Speaker 151615.2s - 1618.12s
Speaking of pitching, it's Brady Singer, the pitcher tonight.
Speaker 81619.14s - 1634s
Is there something that you've noticed from last year to this, or maybe even a couple of years ago, to this year? And change, Steve PERSON, in the pitching philosophy, or is it just the execution of the pitches by the pitchers themselves have just been razor sharp?
Speaker 151634.78s - 1664.32s
Yeah, I think it's a combination of things. I think what you just said certainly is a big part. You know, Brian Sweeney came in here, and Matt Quattrero PERSON is not a big ego, pound his chest kind of guy. He's a pretty matter of fact. Sort of normal person as a manager, you know, he's very easy to talk to. I think the players really like playing for McQuarrero Q PERSON as everybody calls him.Brian Sweeney does maybe get talked about a whole lot because he's new as a Major League pitching coach with the Royals ORG.
Speaker 01664.4s - 1666.78s
He had been a bullpen coach before and so forth.
Speaker 151668.1s - 1746.14s
But that combo, those two guys, I think, deserve a ton of credit for this turnaround. Obviously, a lot of it is also the new personnel, the new pitchers that have come in. Butnot just Brian Sweeney PERSON, but he's part of the organization that has kind of revamped what they're doing with the pitching. And, you know, they're using every analytic tool in the drawer trying to help these guys. It felt like last spring, even though last year was 106 lost season, it felt like right from the start of last year when Q and Brian Sweeney PERSON were new, it felt like every pitcher had a new pitch or two new pitches or a new grip on a pitch that theyhadn't tried before. I mean, they never leave any stone unturned. And that's kind of Brian's philosophy and Dane Johnson, who's the AAA pitching coach at Omaha ORG, who's been around forever, and Paul Gibson PERSON, and all these guys, it's the AAA pitching coach at Omaha, who's been around forever, and Paul Gibson, and all these guys, it's a team effort. Obviously, the pitcher has to execute.I think Brady, you know, was around before those guys were here. I think those guys have helped him. I also think Cole Reagan's coming here, midway last three years doing what he did. A, Brady could learn from what Cole PERSON did, and B,
Speaker 01749.82s - 1754.5s
it took a little pressure off Brady, because he was always kind of the lead dog out of that 2018 drafting, the highest drafted guy in that 2018 draft.
Speaker 151755.34s - 1759.26s
And, you know, all guys have pressure on him, but maybe Brady had a little more on it before.
Speaker 01759.58s - 1764.24s
Now all of a sudden you have, you know, what Cole is doing it did the other day,
Speaker 151764.7s - 1766.16s
what Seth Lugo PERSON's doing,
Speaker 01766.28s - 1771.82s
Michael Walk has been around forever, even Alec Marsh PERSON just forced his way into this team with a great
Speaker 151771.82s - 1775.96s
spring, and he's had a really good start to the year. And I think that's helped Brady a little
Speaker 131775.96s - 1780.72s
bit, just kind of blend in and just be another teammate with these guys. And so I think it's a
Speaker 151780.72s - 1808.9s
whole bunch of things, maturity, evolution, you know, a new coaching group, a new way to look at things for him. And we'll see because, you know, the one thing about Brady is, you know, we've seen off and on great performances by him over the years. The ability to sustain it has been at times a bit elusive for him. And so far this year, he's been able to keep it together. So hopefully he can keep that going.
Speaker 81809.5s - 1825.26s
Glad you brought up the communication between those guys. It seems like they've got like this wolf pack mentality. The starters, they all hang around together. They all sit and watch the game together. And then once the starter comes out, whoever it is, they all get together and talk about it.
Speaker 131825.48s - 1830.7s
Has that been a concerted effort by somebody, or is that just they flock to one of their
Speaker 101830.7s - 1832.66s
own and they want to exchange information?
Speaker 151833.3s - 1856.94s
Yeah, you know, it felt sort of organic, although, you know, the quiet leader, I think, is Seth Lugo PERSON, who's obviously up to an incredible start. And he's kind of a mad scientist. You know, he can throw 95, but, you know, you might say that, you know, that Col Reagan PERSON says more elite stuff or whatever. Yeah.
Speaker 131856.94s - 1862.98s
You know, but Seth is a guy, you know, I interviewed Cole before Wednesday's game,
Speaker 151863.34s - 1901.08s
and he really raved about Cole PERSON and what he's brought to this team off the field to the other pitchers, the work ethic, the way he studies hitters, his game planning, all that sort of thing. That's the younger pitchers like a Brady, like a Cole, like an Alec Marsh PERSON, and even the relievers can really learn from. And I'm not sure, I'm not 100%. My sort of working plan is to have Seth Lugo on the pregame show tonight. He doesn't know that.So we'll see if it all works out. Sometimes you've got to adjust, and you can't always get who you have in your first choice on that particular day. But he really is interesting to talk to.
Speaker 131901.48s - 1905.44s
And is the guy, remember, he was drafted by the Mets in the 34th round,
Speaker 151905.88s - 1933.48s
34th round. But, you know, he comes up, you know, here's Jacob de Grom, here's Noah Cindergarde PERSON, all these great, you know, incredible talents who we remember from the 15 World Series EVENT. And he was kind of stuck behind him on the death chart and wound up in the bullpen, kind of understandably, right? And then he goes to San Diego last year. He up in the bullpen, kind of understandably, right? And then he goes to San Diego last year. He's in the rotation, had a great year. And so far this year, he's having an even better year.
Speaker 81939.62s - 1972.92s
Don't want to point anyone out individually, although this is a good thing to do when you're talking about James MacArthur PERSON. But you talked about the brain trust, the pitching in charge of the pitching. There are multiple guys kind of in charge of the pitching. But the fact that they have so much in their tackle box, as you mentioned it, but guys like James McArthur PERSON that are willing to actually try different things at the highest level. I don't think people realize how hard that is or how much guts that takes to not only change what you are and try to become something else at the big league level, but to work on those different pitches and those different grips. And James MacArthur PERSON is maybe the poster child, didn't he?
Speaker 151973.76s - 1977.9s
He is, and he's not the only one, but I guess he's one of the poster children.
Speaker 81978.2s - 1981.82s
But right now he's certainly maybe the highest focus in that regard.
Speaker 131981.82s - 1986s
And, you know, there's so many ways guys get motivated and, you know,
Speaker 151986.04s - 2016.98s
that because of, you know, the game of failure, it's a game where, you know, most guys, you know, they're great at the amateur level. They're great in high school and college and maybe in the minor leagues. And so, you know, when they get to the major leagues, it's human nature to say, well, this worked for me when I was in A ball and this worked for me in college. So I'm going to do it now because I know I'm good at it.And to be able to put that aside and say, yeah, it was good there, but I need something else here. You know, failure is a motivator, too.
Speaker 02018.28s - 2020.86s
And, you know, James had been a starter.
Speaker 152022.16s - 2028.72s
You know, I mean, you remember when Scott Barlow PERSON was here? Same thing. Scott Barlow PERSON had been a starter all the way up the minor league chain, and the
Speaker 02028.72s - 2031.26s
Royals ORG made him a reliever, and he turned into a very good reliever.
Speaker 152031.74s - 2057.94s
James kind of the same thing. And they added, I believe, a slider. They had another breaking ball. And that has, you know, he was willing because, you know, he came up, he got knocked around in one outing gear. He'd never been to the Big League. He was in the AAA ORG year ago right now. You know, he's in the AAA rotation. And Lehigh, he's a Lehigh Iron, let's see, he's a Lehigh Valley GPE Iron Pig.
Speaker 82058.24s - 2059.3s
Iron pig, that's right.
Speaker 152059.42s - 2094.74s
The AAA affiliate of the Phillies ORG in the rotation. And, you know, that's not a bad life, you know, because you feel like, okay, I'm going to be in the big, hopefully I'll be in the big leagues at some point. But he wasn't in the big leagues. He gets traded to the Royals, goes to Omaha ORG, comes up, gets knocked around, goes back down. They work on that other pitch and refine some things, bring them up.And he's just been money since he got back to the big leagues. And, yeah, that, this, you know, Brian Sweeney PERSON, I think, is, and he's a great personality. And, you know, we've had him on our pregame show many times. He's a great talker. He's a very people. He's a very energetic guy.
Speaker 132095s - 2096.34s
He's very positive guy.
Speaker 152096.78s - 2113.16s
He's a great talker. But he's also very, he's got a lot of empathy for those pitchers and knows what they're going through. And it's just he's got a real good feel for people. And, you know, hey, let's try this.
Speaker 132113.16s - 2116.8s
But in a positive way, not like, well, your other stuff is terrible.
Speaker 152117.54s - 2132.54s
You know, he's a very positive type of leader. And I think he's probably somebody that doesn't get enough credit, but he probably doesn't want any credit. He's just like McQuarrero PERSON, same way. They don't really want credit. They just want to see the guys perform.
Speaker 82133.36s - 2191s

Speaker 102572.16s - 2572.88s
What's your flavor
Speaker 82572.88s - 2575.44s
It was the smoky barbecue
Speaker 102575.44s - 2576.9s
Or whatever it was called
Speaker 82576.9s - 2606.02s
Yeah It was kind of benign But I'll say this I've become I've had wings two days in a row now And I'm becomingMore and more of a smoked, grilled, and tossed, and leave the sauce off of there. You know what I mean? Give me the flavor with the rub and not necessarily toss it in the sauce. Although I know you disagree because you got that Thai NORP chili thing. We're all about that.
Speaker 102606.06s - 2606.94s
I'm a big sauce guy.
Speaker 82607.04s - 2630.64s
Okay, well, mine were good, but I think I have eaten my last sauce wing. I'm going to concentrate on getting them grilled, smoked, and brought out piping hot. RIP. There you go. And, of course, the chicken fried steak is way too much. Like I'd be asleep right now.
Speaker 102630.64s - 2631.96s
What you got going on in the day?
Speaker 82632.66s - 2656.36s
Dude, I ate before I went on. By 1 o'clock, I would have been asleep. If I ate the chicken fried steak and the mashed potatoes and the veggies. So there. All right. Born day today, on this day in 1990s, that makes him 34.Brooks Kepka. Golf.
Speaker 92658.6s - 2659.3s

Good fantasy guy.
Speaker 82672.58s - 2674.32s
Yeah, I had him in fantasy.
Speaker 102674.58s - 2675.32s

Speaker 132678.38s - 2679.3s
First chance yet.
Speaker 102679.4s - 2679.88s
Chance would be.

Speaker 82683.26s - 2689.8s
He had some wings and some fries and some chips in queso. So he loaded up?
Speaker 102689.86s - 2691.72s
He had $25 worth of food, for sure.
Speaker 82693.1s - 2694.94s
Amir Garrett, 32.
Speaker 92696.18s - 2698.12s
Former Roy, former Red, now Angel.
Speaker 82702.56s - 2704.14s
Homer Bailey, 38.
Speaker 92704.74s - 2710.34s
Former Roy, former Red, former... Twin.
Speaker 102710.88s - 2712.54s
Twin, A.
Speaker 82713.06s - 2714.8s
Through a no-hitter.
Speaker 92715.26s - 2715.76s
Throw a no-no.
Speaker 82719.04s - 2720.72s
Ryan Dempster, 47.
Speaker 92721.5s - 2725.68s
Former Cub and former Red Sock threw at A-Rod PERSON intentionally once.
Speaker 82726.32s - 2728.58s
Have you heard his Harry Carey PERSON impersonation?
Speaker 92728.68s - 2729.6s
Yes, it's very good.
Speaker 82730.18s - 2731.02s
It's quite good.
Speaker 92732.44s - 2733.42s
Shusha-Rod.
Speaker 82737.84s - 2739.68s
Darren Dreyfurt, 52.
Speaker 102741.94s - 2744.46s
Well, we bring that up.
Speaker 82744.52s - 2746.54s
I feel like we bring up that name all the time.
Speaker 92746.86s - 2752.14s
But I'm a baseball player, and I'm going to say a former shocker. That's correct.
Speaker 82753.68s - 2754.48s
My age.
Speaker 102755.02s - 2758.74s
There for a moment. You and I had white eyes here for a second.
Speaker 82759.16s - 2767.28s
Thinking that you might not stumble on to who Darren Dreyfair PERSON was. Lawrence Tynes, 46.
Speaker 92768s - 2774.68s
Former Chief and Giant Kicker. Correct. Where is your ranking?
Speaker 102774.96s - 2776.18s
Chief's Kicker King PERSON?
Speaker 82776.18s - 2795.22s
Way down the list. I'm just making sure. Way, way down there. Down there with Lynn Elliott PERSON, probably. Right? Or do we hate Lawrence Tines, Jack PERSON? One to ten. One, he's the worst ever. Ten, he's in the Hall of Fame ORG. Where does he rank as a chief?
Speaker 92795.8s - 2796.96s
Five, I'd say.
Speaker 82796.96s - 2804.04s
I mean, like, the worst I can remember is when he hit the crossbar on a 19-yard field goal attempt
Speaker 92804.04s - 2806.12s
against the Colts ORG and the wild card game.
Speaker 202806.36s - 2807.2s
God, that was.
Speaker 92807.48s - 2814.06s
But again, that team was terrible, too. They had to go to Damon Heward in that game because Trent Green, I think, had three picks.
Speaker 82814.06s - 2820.5s
I keep thinking that every bad kick ever in the history of the Chiefs was kicked by Lynn Elliott PERSON. But that's not necessarily true, is it?
Speaker 92821.24s - 2832.2s
I think Lynn Elliott, up until that fateful night once again against Indianapolis ORG, had been pretty decent. But we won't remember those kicks. No.
Speaker 82833.1s - 2833.88s
Born Anderson PERSON.
Speaker 102835.8s - 2837.12s
He's a chief for a second.
Speaker 82837.44s - 2838.08s
How about that?
Speaker 102838.12s - 2842.08s
I remember him for a hot second. Pete Stoyanovich PERSON.
Speaker 82842.16s - 2842.42s
Yeah.
Speaker 102842.62s - 2843.7s
The chief's kicker for a moment.
Speaker 82846s - 2848.08s
Tyron Liu, 47.
Speaker 92848.92s - 2856.7s
Got crossed up by AI, and that's what he'll be remembered for, not as a underachieving head coach. What's you up to nowadays?
Speaker 102856.82s - 2857.16s
I wonder.
Speaker 82857.46s - 2858.12s
He's still coaching.
Speaker 92859.12s - 2859.94s
I believe he's coaching the Clippers ORG.
Speaker 102859.94s - 2861.52s
Is he really?
Speaker 92861.68s - 2862.16s
Oh, my God.
Speaker 102863s - 2863.72s
You know where he was born?
Speaker 82865.38s - 2867.4s
He's got local ties, I believe.
Speaker 102868.88s - 2870.82s
Either Kansas or Missouri GPE, I think.
Speaker 82871.5s - 2872.54s
Mexico, Missouri GPE.
Speaker 92872.68s - 2873.56s
Is that any pronounce it?
Speaker 82874.52s - 2874.8s
Yes.
Speaker 92874.8s - 2876.6s
A town in middle Missouri GPE?
Speaker 82876.98s - 2877.1s
Yeah.
Speaker 92877.7s - 2879.5s
I've actually been there.
Speaker 82880.3s - 2884.82s
I think there's a sign that says home of Tyron Lou PERSON, I think.
Speaker 92888.42s - 2889.56s
We guys want to ring.
Speaker 82890.76s - 2891.8s
Fair than most coaches.
Speaker 102892.58s - 2893.42s
Doesn't impress Jack PERSON.
Speaker 82894.26s - 2895.58s
Well, I know why.
Speaker 02896.12s - 2898.38s
And I understand why.
Speaker 82900.28s - 2901.48s
Jeff, Horn PERSON is sick.
Speaker 102902.76s - 2903.24s
Wow.
Speaker 82903.84s - 2905.02s
Pop-Tart PRODUCT bowl ring.
Speaker 102905.48s - 2907.22s
You see if the K-State Wildcats ORG got those?
Speaker 82908.26s - 2909.38s
Well, that's not Mickey Mouse PERSON, though.
Speaker 92910.3s - 2911.08s
I know, it's not.
Speaker 82912.38s - 2913.6s
Hornacek basketball.
Speaker 92914.32s - 2914.7s
That's right.
Speaker 82915.76s - 2946.56s
Iowa State ORG, great. Walk on. Walked on to Iowa State ORG. Turned himself into an NBA ORG player. Self-made. Hashtack.Norm Chow, 78. Football. Yeah, coach. That's right. Same day, same year. 78.Greg Gumble PERSON. Oh, man. Miss Greg Gumble PERSON this past year on 78. Greg Gumble. Oh, man.
Speaker 92946.68s - 2949.62s
Miss Greg Gumble this past year on the March Madness panel.
Speaker 82949.82s - 2957.52s
Yeah. But CBS ORG. That's right. Broadcaster, analyst, whatever you want to call them. Broadcaster, sure. You like Greg Gumble PERSON?
Speaker 102958.38s - 2959.2s
Yeah, I'm okay with him.
Speaker 82959.4s - 2960.06s
Yeah, I like them to you.
Speaker 92960.78s - 2960.94s
Oh.
Speaker 82962.56s - 2965.72s
Oh. What? Pat PERSON. You got something to say?
Speaker 132965.78s - 2966.18s
Oh, no.
Speaker 82966.88s - 2969.02s
Yeah, that's right. Mm-hmm.
Speaker 132969.64s - 2970.48s
Mark that down, Jack PERSON.
Speaker 82970.66s - 2975.54s
I did. He hates Greg Gumble PERSON. Yes.
Speaker 102976.76s - 2981.28s
Let's interview Greg Gumble PERSON and then we'll tell the entire story.
Speaker 92981.4s - 2985.82s
Run with it. The biggest Greg Gumble PERSON hater in the Midwest. The biggest Greg Gumble hater.
Speaker 102987.64s - 2988.22s
The only Greg Gumble PERSON hater. That's true.
Speaker 92988.4s - 2990.88s
That's true. I don't know any of others. Yes.
Speaker 132990.94s - 2991.76s
That can't be accurate.
Speaker 102991.76s - 2993.16s
You can't give me heat for Ian Eagle PERSON,
Speaker 92993.16s - 2994.76s
but you hate Greg Gumble PERSON.
Speaker 102995.76s - 2997.18s
I give you heat for Ian Eagle PERSON.
Speaker 132997.32s - 2999.22s
I think fantastic.
Speaker 102999.94s - 3000.34s
I just don't think...
Speaker 83000.34s - 3001.12s
Iron Eagle PERSON's a saint.
Speaker 103001.42s - 3002.62s
I don't think...
Speaker 83002.62s - 3002.68s
I don't think...
Speaker 103002.68s - 3011.08s
I don't know. I just... He's okay. Gumble PERSON? I don't think, I don't think, yeah, I don't know. He's okay, Gumble? I don't think he's anything special is why I'm getting at.
Speaker 83011.38s - 3012.22s
Well, the difference between him.
Speaker 103012.22s - 3020.52s
If you were to give me a list of broadcasters, like most memorable, I can list off probably 10 to 15 of them. Great Gumble PERSON would I make that list.
Speaker 83021.58s - 3025.44s
True, but he's no longer a broadcaster. He's just in the studio.
Speaker 103025.64s - 3033.2s
I know. But even some of the studio stuff, though, I'm like, he wasn't. I can't remember. There was one time where he had, like, a couple of inaccuracies.
Speaker 83033.66s - 3036.22s
So when he was gone this March, you were like, good riddons.
Speaker 103036.84s - 3039.28s
It didn't make any difference because I'm going to watch.
Speaker 83039.36s - 3042.82s
I'm going to watch and listen anyways. That's tough, man.
Speaker 93043.36s - 3044s
Cold-blooded.
Speaker 103044.44s - 3044.98s
Gold-blooded.
Speaker 93047.68s - 3051.7s
Greg. 78-year-old Greg Gumble PERSON taking arrows over here.
Speaker 83053.4s - 3054.2s
Poor guy.
Speaker 63055.84s - 3056.24s
Sorry.
Speaker 83057.02s - 3057.6s
No, you're not.
Speaker 103058.02s - 3060.28s
Born on this day now, Dad, Jack, Sugar Ray Robinson PERSON.
Speaker 83060.72s - 3062.64s
Nope, I gave you a nickname. Gave it away.
Speaker 93062.76s - 3065.16s
I'll boxer, but I feel like we had him not too long ago.
Speaker 83067.3s - 3067.92s
Didn't we?
Speaker 103068.14s - 3068.7s
I don't know.
Speaker 93069.28s - 3070.2s
Wasn't Sugar-Aid Leonard?
Speaker 83071.56s - 3072.62s
Pretty sure we had it recently.
Speaker 93072.74s - 3073.24s
No, you're right.
Speaker 83073.28s - 3074.02s
It wasn't Sugar-Rade Leonard PRODUCT.
Speaker 93074.1s - 3074.72s
I didn't remember that.
Speaker 103075.02s - 3075.94s
We would have had him.
Speaker 83076.18s - 3077.5s
He died on April 12th.
Speaker 93080.08s - 3080.86s
Oh, there you go.
Speaker 83084.96s - 3097.02s

Power hitting first baseman, Daryl Johnson back from the day.
Speaker 83135.42s - 3137.28s

Speaker 103154.76s - 3158.9s
Yeah. I heard I'm guessing horses' names when I came over this way. That was fun.
Speaker 83159.38s - 3160.14s
He did pretty well.
Speaker 103160.4s - 3161.66s
It might be a strong word.
Speaker 83161.76s - 3162.86s
I just said I'm not going to watch it.
Speaker 103163.76s - 3163.96s
Oh.
Speaker 93164.52s - 3164.76s
Sorry.
Speaker 103165.38s - 3167.18s
Said a text a chance.
Speaker 83167.34s - 3170.86s
I normally don't speak in hyperbole in absolutes, Jack PERSON.
Speaker 93171.28s - 3175.4s
Yeah, you don't. Yeah, no. Take that blink back right now.
Speaker 83176.24s - 3179.58s
