Speaker 0102.54s - 103.34s

Hey, everybody.

Speaker 2103.46s - 133.56s

It's Wednesday, May 8th, 2024. Welcome to the NFL ORG fantasy football podcast, where we know better than the best with Kendrick Lamar PERSON. To me, your man, M.G. Mark, is joined by Michael F. Florio and Laquan Jones PERSON. And fellas, I know this time of year, we get to kind of have some fun, do some things sort of outside the box, and to kind of help us along with that.We got Bucky Brooks, who you can see you on NFL Network and in a million other places. Buck, one, we appreciate the time. Two, we were talking about this before the show. How is it that you have the time and energy to do all of the things that you do?

Speaker 8134.48s - 139.72s

Well, I mean, when I'm not listening to the latest disc tracks from Kendrick and Drake PERSON,

Speaker 2139.72s - 143.86s

I find a little time to squeeze in some meet time.

Speaker 0143.96s - 144.76s

So, no, it's been fun, man.

Speaker 2144.76s - 148.56s

Look, all things ball, like, like there are a lot of other things that we could be doing,

Speaker 0148.62s - 151.48s

but, like, being able to talk about ball, like, it doesn't get much better than that.

Speaker 2151.9s - 195.24s

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Very true. Yeah, so we wanted to get you on because, obviously, the draft is wrapped up. You know, mini camps and OTAs ORG and stuff, they're going to be starting up. They have started up in a lot of places already. So I kind of wanted to get some of your thoughts on things that have gone on so far and how you kind of project some things.Figure we started quarterback, because why not? Because that was the big talk, especially at the top of the draft. And, you know, we saw Caleb Williams go number one. You know, we saw where Jaden Daniels and Drake PERSON, man, all these guys went. We know that all the talk about Caleb is that he's a guy who's ready to step in and be maybe the guy for the Bears ORG. But beyond that, are there any quarterbacks in this rookie class that you think are ready to be starters in day one? I think Jaden Daniels PERSON would be a starter

Speaker 8195.24s - 231.88s

from day one. I think when you look at Jaden Daniels going to Washington GPE, given Cliff Kingsbury's history, we've seen what Cliff Kingsbury did. He turned Calaisbury PERSON into the offensive rookie year in Calumary's first season. He's familiar with building game plans around a player and an athlete like this at the quarterback position. And with, you know, Jaden Daniels PERSON, the difference with him in like Drake May and J.J. McCarthy PERSON, he enters the league with 55 collegiate starts. Like when everyone is looking for maybe the secret sauce behind Brock Purdy's PERSON success, Brock Pretty played almost 50 college games before he entered the league.

Speaker 0232.14s - 255.8s

And look, it's not exactly the same as playing in the NFL ORG, but that experience matters. Those reps matter. Jay and Daniels, first Arizona State, then at LSU ORG, will give him an opportunity to have success immediately in Washington GPE. And then when you throw in the athletic factor, the fact that he can run around and use his legs, that also kind of buys you the opportunity to kind of get on the field and get on the field right

Speaker 8255.8s - 261.64s

away. Yeah. I mean, look, Jaden Daniel PERSON has some nice weapons around him. And we talked about

Speaker 10261.64s - 277.04s

Cliff Kingsbury PERSON last pot. And and like I'm wondering your thoughts on Luke McCaffrey of like his ability to be used under a Cliff Kingsbury's PERSON system. I mean, he looks like an complete weapon that you can utilize all over the offense. Yeah, no, it's interesting because

Speaker 8277.04s - 322.16s

there's been a lot of excitement and buzz about Luke McCaffrey and normally you don't hear that kind of buzz and excitement over a day three pick. But I think some of it is the family business. You know, you think about all the McAfreys PERSON and how many have had success in the National Football League, but then also the opportunity. In that offense, there's an opportunity for him to be able to get on the field and to play and have a role because you can't stop Scary Terry and you can't stop John Doxon without leaving someone in one-on-one coverage. And looking at every shone ability to put the ball into pain as a playmaker in the redzone, that offense with Jaden Daniels PERSON, the ball can go anywhere, particularly when he leaves the pocket. So that'll give him a chance to, look, be a very impactful performer. I'm not saying he'd be poking the court, but he could carve out a role, a nice role for himself as a rookie.

Speaker 10322.54s - 328.62s

So I want to ask you about another quarterback. Let's head down to Atlanta. Did the Falcons make the right move getting Michael Pennings PERSON?

Speaker 8329.36s - 391.6s

So, look, this is hard just because the amount of capital that the Atlanta Falcons ORG used to acquire Kirk Cousins first and then Michael Pennix. Normally when you see these situations, you talk about a bridge quarterback that is a middling quarterback that is struggling to kind of stay relevant in the league. And then you bring in the hot shot rookie. Well, now you have the most expensive quarterback on the free agent market. The Atlanta Falcons gobble them up and then they come and use a top 10 pick on Michael Pennix. I would say the plan is solid. The execution is faulty just because you simply don't commit those kinds of assets to it. And the only way that they can look right, and look, they really won't look right, but winning solves everything. So if Michael Pennix jumps into the mix and plays at a high level, when the next day is like, see, look, he was just so good, we couldn't pass him up.Much like Brock Purdy has allowed the Niners to kind of hide from the Trey Lance thing. It just comes down to performance. If Kirk Cousins or Michael Pennock PERSON plays at a high level, it won't matter. The conversation will be mute.

Speaker 3392.32s - 404.56s

And speak the big six. When outside of maybe Michael Pennix, do you think we see these guys starting by like, by week one, by October or some going to sit all year? When do you think we see these guys?

Speaker 8407.02s - 420.66s

So I think the first three to start will be Caleb Williams, Jaden Daniels, and Bo Nicks, respectively. Then I think it's a bit of a roll of the dice when it comes to Drake May and J.J. McCarthy and Michael Pennies PERSON. Because

Speaker 11420.66s - 467.06s

J.J. McCarthy is kind of stuck behind the great Sam Donald. And Sam Donald, like, we've heard, I think, what we're seven years in, where we talked about this is his year, this is his year. Kevin O'Connell is going to dust off. He's finally got the instructions how to play with the toy. And so we're going to see the best version of Sam Donald in Minnesota. In New England, I think they want to really have a slow cook process with Drake May PERSON. They let Jacob Brissette PERSON kind of get beat up until they can build up the office line until they can get the weapons and drop Drake May in maybe week eight, week nine, when he's ready. Michael Panics, we talked about Kirk Cousins PERSON. Kirk Cousins PERSON is going to be the starter. The reason why Bo Nix is in that category, I just believe that Sean Payton PERSON subscribes to the I Told You So Theory.

Speaker 8467.62s - 490.98s

And so he wants to kind of put him in the mix and tell everybody, I told you he was going to be good because I'm the quarterback guru. I can make him work. And so when everyone is talking about Bo Nix, not even rating as a first round talent, I think Sean Payton PERSON wants to show the football world. No, no, he's a first round talent. And here's why. And this is why we're going to win with it. You mentioned J.J. McCarthy PERSON and

Speaker 2490.98s - 511.22s

Sam Donald there in Minnesota. I mean, I feel like McCarthy PERSON was one of the more polarizing prospects out there, right? Because some guys looked at it. Some people looked at him and said, well, he was helped by all the talent around him. Some people said, well, he's just a winner and he's smart and he knows what to do. Where do you come down on J.J. McCarthy PERSON? Which version of the story are you more leaning toward?

Speaker 8511.98s - 573.62s

I'm more in the winner guy category. And the only reason I'll say that is because I think J.J. McCarthy PERSON was very intentional about his college plans. He was a four or five-star quarterback. Who could have gone anywhere? And he decided to go to Michigan ORG knowing that Michigan was going to run the football and run it like relentlessly with Jim Harbaugh PERSON.And so that decision to do that speaks volumes about who he is in terms of willing to check his ego at the door. From a talent standpoint, he's very talented. I mean, he's a player that can make all the throws in the pocket. He also has the athleticism to add a dimension to the offense. We saw him do that from time to time in Michigan. The one thing that we don't have, and it's not his fault, it's the style of play. We don't have many moments where he had toput the entire offense on his back because they were always playing in front. The running game was always kind of thriving. It's rare that we've had to see him in those moments. It doesn't mean that he can't do it. We just don't have any evidence to say, hey, he's going to be this because he did that while he was a collegian.

Speaker 2577.5s - 577.64s

I got to ask, was it really an old documentary that killed Spencer Rattler's PERSON draft stock?

Speaker 8581.54s - 642.94s

I mean, this is a guy who was a He was a Heisman candidate like a few years ago, right? And all of a sudden, you know, I mean, he loses his job to Caleb Williams. He ends up transferring. I mean, what happened with Spencer Rattler PERSON? And does he have the skills to be successful in the NFL ORG? I would say this, because it's funny, like, watching that kind of play out in the Twitterverse. I will say, it didn't help him. I see anyone who watched him on QV1, even though he was a teenager, he was 18, he didn't come off great. You know, and sometimes, man, it's hard to, it's hard to forget those impressions when you'rean evaluator. The other thing is everyone is outraged that the NFL ORG would consider something that he did in high school, but that's what they do for all prospects. Like Marcus PERSON and you guys, if y'all were being drafted, your high school coach would get a phone call. You know, he would get a questionnaire, he would get a letter, he would get a phone call. He might even get a visit based on what you may have been involved in in high school. That's kind of part of the process as you're trying to learn the player. The bigger thing that hurts Spencer Rather is, yeah, dude, he got beat out by Caleb Williams quickly at Oklahoma ORG.

Speaker 11643.52s - 655.66s

Like four or five games in, like they're playing Texas ORG. You look up, you're like, whoa, Spencer Ravler's supposed to be a Heisman WORK_OF_ART candidate. And Caleb Williams is not only in the game, Caleb Williams is leading the Sooners back.

Speaker 8655.76s - 665.96s

So that plays a part. Then when he transferred, he went to South Carolina GPE and he didn't really light it up. And when you watch his game, I don't know what his superpower is.

Speaker 0666.32s - 669.92s

Like he doesn't have the arm talent that Caleb Williams possesses.

Speaker 8670s - 695.3s

He doesn't run around like Jaden Daniels PERSON. Look, he's a solid playmaker in Bowman. But Boe Nix PERSON is a better physical specimen. So he just kind of gets stuck. Maybe he can do the Brock Purdy thing because that's why Brock Purdy landed in the seventh round because he didn't kind of pass all the pageant requirements. So maybe Spencer Radler PERSON is a better player than he is a prospect just because he plays the game at a higher level than he looks when he walks out on the field.

Speaker 2696.1s - 701.28s

Yeah, I know he was a guy that, again, I think early in draft season, his stock sort of dropped.

Speaker 8702.38s - 705.2s

You know, there are people making a case for him that maybe he ends up being of value.

Speaker 5705.2s - 709.44s

I just, you know, I was sort of, I didn't really know what to make of Spencer Rattler PERSON,

Speaker 2709.54s - 723.48s

but because, again, he went from being Heisman WORK_OF_ART candidate to a guy that just kind of fell off the radar was sort of sort of kind of a head scratcher to me. Talking about Bucky Brooks PERSON, we'll take a quick break, come back with more. We dive into wide receivers and running backs here on the NFL ORG fantasy football podcast.

Speaker 5724.52s - 754.54s

Hey guys, this is Matt Jones Drew Franklin from the Fade This podcast ORG. We got a great episode coming up. Picks in all the sports, football, basketball. We do them all. But here's a preview of this week's episode. Do you think it's more embarrassing to dye your hair or to have all the sports, football, basketball. We do them all. But here's a preview of this week's episode. Do you think it's more embarrassing to dye your hair or to have hair plugs?

Speaker 9776.42s - 776.8s

I don't think either are embarrassing if you're not trying to conceal it and act like you didn't.

Speaker 7777.04s - 779.92s

Okay. So you think if you just come out and go, I got hair plugs.

Speaker 9780.1s - 785.52s

Yeah. Like check out these hair. I mean, don't just walk around. Hey, tap in here. Hey, stranger. I don't want you thinking this is natural.

Speaker 7785.66s - 802.94s

You know, buddy. Do you have to do that with everyone you meet? Some people try to act like they, you know what I mean? Yeah. But I mean, like John Cena got it. You know, when John Cena came back to wrestling, he had a bald spot. And now he doesn't. You think he should be required in all interviews to say, look, by the way, I covered up my bald spot? Yeah, I guess it's weird.

Speaker 9803.04s - 810.42s

I mean, you don't wear a sign or, like, put a sign in your yard. All right. So what about toupee's? Those are the most obvious.

Speaker 7810.98s - 815.8s

But what's say you're like Bill PERSON's self and you can get it to where it looks good? His is magical.

Speaker 9816.48s - 822.54s

I don't even know if his is a toupee. It is. I think he went into the future and had a procedure we haven't even discovered yet.

Speaker 7822.9s - 830.62s

And this episode was brought to you in partnership with Draft Kings to hear more listen and subscribe to Fade This on IHeartRadio or wherever you listen to podcast.

Speaker 2866.28s - 872.16s

I mean, because it was the position that everybody talked about. Floreo PERSON, any questions you got about wide outs right now?

Speaker 3872.92s - 889.88s

Look, Bucky, I would ask you about 30 wide receivers in this class if I could, because it's a really deep class, and I liked a lot of the players in it. But have we overrated the depth of this class at all? Or is the opposite? Is this class going to surprise us maybe with even some later round breakouts?

Speaker 8890.4s - 957s

I think we've overrated it because the conversation coming out was, hey, this is a deep, talented collection of pass catchers. And it is. But they're different categories for how we put the past catchers. I would say the top three were different than everybody else. Marvin Harrison, Jr., Roma Dunzei, Malik PERSON neighbors, they went a different category. The next person right after that was Brian Thomas Jr.He was the one of the group that remained that had Y-Receiver 1 potential. The thing that you didn't know is, okay, it's not as polished as those other guys, but man, the talent is there. I kind of compared him to T. Higgins PERSON. How you like T. Higgins, like T. Higgins PERSON. Maybe he's a one. We know he's a great too, but maybe he's a one if Jamar Chase isn't there. We just don't know. That's how Brian Thomas PERSON looked. But then after that, I think there were a lot of guys who are destined to be role players, and they have to be with the right team, asked to play in the right role to really maximize who they are.So when you think about the Xavier Worthies and the Ladd-McConkies and the Ricky Pirsaws PERSON and those guys,

Speaker 0957.04s - 966.2s

they're really good players. They can be B-plus players, maybe A-minus players, but it may be A-minus player in a specific role. Not the transcendent

Speaker 8966.2s - 984s

player to A, we can just drop him in any offense. He's going to have a lot of success. But, no, there are a lot of players that will have success. I just don't know if there will be the lead, the leading man in their designated soap opera. So we, well, you mentioned

Speaker 10984s - 986.9s

Xavier Worthy PERSON and a guy of his size and his profile.

Speaker 8987.2s - 991.66s

Like, could he be super productive with the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes PERSON in that offense?

Speaker 10992.02s - 996.66s

I mean, we got some little distractions going on all field stuff, you know, with Rice PERSON.

Speaker 9996.66s - 1002.18s

So I feel like, you know, a workload. That's what we call those things.

Speaker 101003.6s - 1004.3s

We're not.

Speaker 81004.3s - 1006.26s

We're not a chair're not trying. Yeah.

Speaker 91006.26s - 1006.86s

Okay.

Speaker 111008s - 1010.64s

I think Xavier Worthy PERSON is interesting.

Speaker 91011.64s - 1015.8s

I wasn't as high on Xavier Worthy PERSON as some were coming out of the combine.

Speaker 111016.46s - 1019.48s

But now that he's landed with Kansas City, I can see Andy Reed's PERSON vision.

Speaker 81020.06s - 1096.48s

Remember, everybody sees somebody as kind of like a yesteryear player. So for Andy Reed, this is yesteryear's Deshawn Jackson PERSON. You know, like you can see him sitting in the table. Like, I mean, it's got Rosemary, D. Jack PERSON. He's skinny. He's this and that.Y'all tell me he can, but DeShon Jackson PERSON was able to do. So if he's put in that role, yeah, he can kill it. Now, the issue that you have is, look, man, Rashid Rice was just coming into his own, right? You could kind of envision how they're going to utilize him and whatever. At a minimum, we know he's going to be on the sideline for some suspensions, maybe even more. And so that changes a little bit of the construct of the offense because now we know Travis Kelsey PERSON's there, but Travis Kelsey is inthe twilight of his career, and he can't be the lead horse the entire season. So who feels some of the production that was, look, we was pegged to go to Rice PERSON. I think they still have to figure it out. To me, Xavier Worthy's PERSON production will be as the designated big play guy. The guy that some games, you look up, he got three catches for 90 yards because he's had big passes and those things. And then there may be a couple games where he's quiet, two for 12, two for 15. So to me, he's more of a kind of boom or bust projection in terms of what the production is going to be his first season.

Speaker 21097.42s - 1101.28s

I guess about Malik PERSON neighbors because, you know, he was a guy that everybody loved.

Speaker 01101.64s - 1108.32s

And at least for fantasy, we saw him go to New York, go to the Giants ORG, and we all kind of got heartbroken a little bit.

Speaker 101110.66s - 1112.64s

Can he elevate Daniel Jones PERSON?

Speaker 01112.76s - 1117.54s

I mean, look, the targets are going to be there because there's not really a lot of places to go necessarily with the football.

Speaker 101117.94s - 1123.46s

Can he elevate Daniel Jones or is, you know, Danny Dimes PERSON kind of is what he is?

Speaker 21123.46s - 1125.28s

I mean, can he sort of rise above that? No, man. That is, you know, Danny Dimes PERSON kind of is what he is. I mean, can he sort of rise above that?

Speaker 111125.94s - 1127.16s

No, man.

Speaker 21128.52s - 1129.34s

That is, man.

Speaker 111129.4s - 1131.5s

Like, that's the thing that everyone, because you love him.

Speaker 81131.5s - 1136.78s

You watch him on tape and you're like, oh, he's so fascinated, whatever. And with the six-picked, the New York GPE judge, you're like, no.

Speaker 111137.18s - 1139.2s

Right. Right.

Speaker 81141.12s - 1141.7s

That's it.

Speaker 111141.78s - 1145.36s

Brian Dayball PERSON is a really good offensive mind.

Speaker 81145.52s - 1148.36s

He'll find a way to get him the ball. I think he still can function.

Speaker 111148.96s - 1171.14s

And look, maybe he's able to do one of those DeAndre Hopkins PERSON type things where it doesn't matter how bad the quarterback is. Like he kind of finds a way to continue to produce at a high level. He's really good. And I would say the strength of his game is the ability to make things happen after the catch. And that might be the saving grace. So with the bubble screens, the quick throws, the slants, maybe he's able to kind of tally enough yardage to put up the

Speaker 81171.14s - 1175.72s

numbers that you want from a number one receiver. Lucky, I'm wondering how much when you're looking

Speaker 31175.72s - 1182.2s

at these rookies is it what you thought coming in? Because I didn't love Keon Coleman PERSON as a prospect

Speaker 01182.2s - 1185.02s

coming in, but I absolutely love his landing spot.

Speaker 91185.02s - 1200.3s

And I'm like, ignore all the bill stuff behind me. I'm like, Josh Allen with this style of wide receiver could be dangerous. So I guess twofold question, like, how do you balance that landing spot and what you thought of a player? And do you think Keon Coleman could be a good fit with Josh Allen and the bills?

Speaker 81200.82s - 1206.18s

The yellow jacket got you, huh? The yellow jacket. The puffer got you, the personality.

Speaker 31207.32s - 1213.12s

So here's the thing. And here's what you want to do. Like, like, where we are in the media world,

Speaker 111213.12s - 1217.44s

like, as a scout, you want to be objective. And so you can't be tied to your opinions per se,

Speaker 31217.44s - 1220.74s

because a lot of the stuff you're doing is speculating without really knowing where they're going.

Speaker 111221.28s - 1229.22s

Well, now, once you see where they go, to me, it becomes a much easier eval because you understand where he's going, who he's playing with and what the plan

Speaker 81229.22s - 1312.4s

is, the proposed plan for the player. Well, yeah, Keion Coleman PERSON, to me, like, I mean, he ain't a sleep because everyone knows. But Keon Coleman and Buffalo ORG, he has a chance to be the number one receiver. If he goes somewhere else, he doesn't get a chance to play that role. Because now you hear the conversation about Josh Allen basically handpicked him. Oh, I'm going all in on Keionnoy Coleman PERSON, because Josh Allen has a vested interest in making sure that his handpicked receiver plays. I'll say this. What hurt Keanan Colvin PERSON in the draft is he didn't run fast at the combine, but you still got to look at the tape and watch what he did at Florida State ORG. This dude is bean topping everybody. He's catching balls everywhere. He's super acrobatic. He's a red zone weapon. And the underrated value, when you're looking at wide receivers, find guys that have return ability.Because what return ability does is it showcases their ability to run after the catch. Keanu Coleman at his size was returning punts for Florida State ORG. That tells me, man, we can get this guy in space. We can do some things. And I didn't make this comparison before, but I'll make it now. He reminds me at Keenan Allen PERSON. Because Keenan Allen was also another guy that was a big guy that returned punts, I think, at Cal ORG a little bit. Kean Coleman may end up having some of that stuff. He's not that route running now,but man, if Josh Allen says, I want you, what do you think the ball is going to hit? It's going

Speaker 101312.4s - 1317.56s

ahead in his direction because everyone wants to be correct. So now that we know landing spots,

Speaker 81317.56s - 1324.56s

outside of Marvin Harrison, Jr., which wide receiver do you think will have like year one impact?

Speaker 101324.82s - 1328.48s

Like, who will have the number one spot out of that rookie class?

Speaker 81329.5s - 1341.9s

The number one spot outside of Marvin Harrison Jr. We already talked about Malik PERSON. Okay, I will say this. If you talk about biggest impact, I think Brian Thomas Jr. could have a significant impact.

Speaker 111342.14s - 1347.44s

And this is why in Jacksonville because everyone, look, last year I've seen Mark PERSON is doing

Speaker 81347.44s - 1348.36s

on TV, the hype train.

Speaker 111348.52s - 1349s

Do, do, do.

Speaker 81350.88s - 1351.76s

Bring it back.

Speaker 111352.86s - 1356.26s

The hype train was big on Jacksonville last year.

Speaker 81356.46s - 1360.4s

And so because they ran off the tracks, everybody is off of them.

Speaker 111360.96s - 1364.44s

I would say this year, they're better positioned to do what everyone thought that they

Speaker 81364.44s - 1365.34s

would do last year,

Speaker 111365.8s - 1367.52s

just because of the talent on the outside.

Speaker 81368.1s - 1424.6s

So the best two playmakers on the Jack Wars ORG offense are Christian Kirk and Evan Ingram. The ball goes to them. Like the coaches have said, that's where the ball is going. Well, now they bring over Gabe Davis, who averaged over 16yards per catch at 27 touchdowns in Buffalo ORG. Well, somebody on the other side is also going to get one-on-one covering, and that's BTJ. And so he gets one-per-catch at 27 touchdowns in Buffalo. Well, somebody on the other side is also going to get one-on-one coverage, and that's BTJ PERSON. And so he gets one-on-one coverage as a vertical stretch player, and he's super fast. So for years, they've had to play half-court basketball because they didn't have thevertical element. Now you have two guys, and you have to think early on, all the attention will be on Kirk and Ingram and then Gabe Davis because they've seen him in the league. That creates plenty of opportunities for Thomas Jr. PERSON to have big plays. And so when we talk about impact, I think about impact in terms of explosive plays, catches over 20 yards. To me, he's going to have an opportunity to be well up in that categorybecause he's going to get a lot of one-on-ones and I think they'll push the ball down the field.

Speaker 21425.24s - 1433.64s

So you talk about that, right, in crowded wide receiver rooms and that sort of thing. And, you know, there was all this chatter that the Niners ORG were going to make a trade at some point

Speaker 01433.64s - 1444.44s

that, you know, they couldn't keep both Debo and Brandon Ayuk PERSON. For now, they're both still there. I know they're working on an extension for Iyuk PERSON. But they also go out and they draft Ricky Pearsall PERSON.

Speaker 21445.24s - 1447.76s

Is there space for all three of those guys?

Speaker 111447.98s - 1458.2s

I mean, I guess if anybody can sort of scheme it up, it might be Kyle Shanahan PERSON, but it feels like it's going to be hard for all three of those guys to really coexist, you know, successfully in that offense.

Speaker 21458.52s - 1460.6s

I think it's a direct reaction to Super Bowl EVENT.

Speaker 81461.4s - 1537.18s

And without knowing what Debo pulled in in the Super Bowl, Calh Shanahan PERSON walked away from that game with a loss. But he also walked away knowing that, man, now that we lost this game like this, everybody's going to play us the same way, meaning everyone's going to play man-to-man against the 49ers ORG, because man-to-man took away the layups that were going to Brock Purdy. That first quarter, when they went up and down the field, they were hitting the middle of the seam or whatever.Canc City ORG quickly switched the man and said, hey, we got to take away these. And what happened is they found that Debo Sammy couldn't get open against man coverage. Brandon Ayyuk PERSON didn't get the production. He was getting open, but he didn't get the production. Well, Kyle Shanahan PERSON wanted another route runner to fill out the wide receiver court. That's Ricky Piersall PERSON.So now when they play those teams that attempt to play man-to-man, they're going to have more options. Because remember, it wasn't even Kansas City. If you go back and look at Cleveland, Cleveland stopped the Niners ORG' offense because they played man-to-man to make like 60% of their snaps. Shanahan PERSON is anticipating facing more man-to-man. He wanted a route runner. Ricky Pearsall PERSON is a route runner. That's why he wanted to take him early. So there's opportunitiesfor all of those guys, but it may be matchup based more so than, hey, just throw out the lineup

Speaker 31537.18s - 1550.96s

card. This is how we're going to play. And, Bucky PERSON, we've asked you about a lot of wide receivers here, but is there any fantasy sleepers that our listeners maybe should write down for draft season? Fantasy sleepers. So that means running back anything,

Speaker 81551.4s - 1556.38s

we can go anywhere on the board. Oh, I was thinking receivers, but you could take it anywhere.

Speaker 31556.94s - 1563.48s

Oh, okay. I'll just make sure I was going to add the proper context. I would say just as an overall

Speaker 81563.48s - 1567.32s

fantasy sleeper, I would just keep an eye on Blake Corn with the L.A. Rams ORG.

Speaker 31567.88s - 1569.32s

And the reason I would keep an eye on Blake PERSON.

Speaker 111569.32s - 1569.68s

Let's go.

Speaker 81570.42s - 1573.46s

When you look at, look, man, this dude put the ball in the paint,

Speaker 101573.52s - 1576.26s

I think 58 rushing touchdowns at Michigan ORG.

Speaker 81577.72s - 1599.24s

I'm watching how the Rams ORG are switching over their offense from being more of a zone scheme to a gap scheme. But that's exactly what he played in at Michigan ORG. So Sean McVey PERSON was able to take someone and say, this guy played in what we're going to do, he's a perfect fit for us.And even though they have Cameron Williams PERSON, man, you know how Sean McVeigh falls in and out of love with running backs.

Speaker 111599.72s - 1614.1s

He loves Ty Gurley PERSON one moment. Cam Acres. Oh, Cam Acres, you're my guide. And I can't find Cam Acres anymore. You know? And so, Aaron Williams PERSON is a toast to the town. And by week seven, it may be Blake Coram's PERSON team. So just keep an eye on Blake Coram PERSON being the guy.

Speaker 21615.5s - 1615.7s

Yep.

Speaker 81616.44s - 1620.84s

This is the part that Laquan PERSON is going to clip later and he's going to make this a social post.

Speaker 111622.28s - 1624.6s

It's going to be like he's going to retweet it like five times.

Speaker 81624.68s - 1625.58s

It's absolutely going to happen.

Speaker 111627.18s - 1628.56s

We'll take one more quick break.

Speaker 81628.64s - 1629.8s

We'll talk some more running backs.

Speaker 101629.9s - 1630.72s

Speaker 21744.74s - 1774.52s

So yeah, let's talk some running backs here. So we talked about the wide receivers. The thing you mentioned is that maybe we got a little bit too hyped on this wide receiver class. On the flip side, everybody was really down on this group of running backs. I, Bucky, have been of the opinion, that people were down on them, mainly because there weren't one or two guys at the top, right? We didn't have a Bjean Robinson PERSON, for instance, in this class. It wasn't like we had Sequin Barclay PERSON or whatever in this group. Have we underrated the depth of this running back class, or is it really just not great?

Speaker 81776.4s - 1855.44s

Yeah, there's not, I would say, there's not that star player. So it's not so much that everyone was devaluing that. I don't think anyone merited what Bejohn PERSON was. And I think anyone can look at Bejohn PERSON and see Bejohn as a rookie and just see, oh, man, this talent that he has is different. I would say that the players that were in this class are more situational playmakers, guys that need to play a specific role. They're not guys that can handle the entire obligation that normally comes along with being the workhorse. And so it's going to be really important that you find the right guys that fit into the role that is going to really work well for them. You know, I talked about Blake Corm PERSON, like, he's a great fit. I think Will Shipley's in a great place, even though it's a little different with Seyquan Barkley PERSON being there. Will Shipley's in a nice thing because he's Christian McCaffrey PERSON light in terms oflike how he plays. And in an offense that we use the running back in a few different ways, he's going to have a lot of success. But I can say the same thing about Isaac Garando PERSON for the San Francisco 49ers. He's going to be a guy that is going to have an opportunity to play in those things. So it's really kind of shaking the bushes and looking at the fits to find the running back that could surprise, even though on the surface coming into the league, there wasn't anyone that you were wowed about. So we talked about some of these

Speaker 101855.44s - 1865.46s

running backs and Trey Benson PERSON is a guy that I absolutely love, but who is a guy that you just saw the landing spot? He's like, okay, yeah, he's going to be able to produce and have a bright future there.

Speaker 81866.5s - 1890.24s

Yeah, no, so, and talking about it, like, like, Corm is obviously one. Schiffley PERSON is another one that you just kind of talk about. Like, man, that, that appears to be a really good fit. Trey Benson in Arizona ORG is interesting because he has an opportunity to be the young guy in the backfield. And there's something, too, that James Conner's played for a long time. Like he's been the guy for a minute,

Speaker 111890.24s - 1902.46s

but young, dynamic, being able to kind of have an opportunity to do it. Yeah, those guys are fascinated. But I think, man, this one is like, it's really about digging deep because the problem

Speaker 81902.46s - 1918.96s

with this running back class is we had a free agent class that none of us expected, right? We didn't expect the free agents to get paid. We didn't expect Josh Jacobs to end up in Green Bay. Like, we just kind of thought they all would be sent out the passion. That's it. No more old running back. Yeah, you have you have these guys doing it. I mean,

Speaker 111919.04s - 1923.66s

shoot, Zeke Yell PERSON has come back. He came back and he's acting like he's going to be the feature player.

Speaker 01923.66s - 1928.82s

I was like, wait, two years ago, two years ago, we were ready to get rid of him. So I think some of these

Speaker 111928.82s - 1933.96s

young guys are hamstrung by their situations where it may take a while for them to really pop.

Speaker 81934.36s - 1943.5s

It might be a year where we have to turn back the clock and lean on a bunch of older guys early into those young guys can kind of separate from the pack. So, I mean, real quick about

Speaker 21943.5s - 1957.58s

that, that's not making me feel better about Marshaun Lloyd PERSON. I wanted him to go to a great place, Bucky PERSON. He goes to Green Bay. I think he's really talented guy, but he's stuck behind Josh Jacobs PERSON. I mean, it feels like this is just, at least for the next two years, he's probably just stuck, right?

Speaker 81957.98s - 2005.72s

It seems like that, right? Because, like, when we've seen the way they played Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon PERSON, there's not enough evidence to say that Matt LeFleod PERSON knows how to fully maximize two running backs that can play. You know, like it was always, hey, Aaron Jones PERSON, you do all of the work. And, oh, AJ Dillon PERSON, we'll throw you in every now and then and kind of get it done. With Josh Dacob PERSON, you know, he loves the heavy workload. He did it in with the Raiders ORG. He can catch it out the backfield. So you don't have these clear lines where you can say, okay, he's going to play this role and Marshaun PERSON is going to play that other role. But you never, the one thing we know about running backs, man, sprained ankle, bruise here, there. It gives guys an opportunity. It's just, it's just, it's murkierthan we've seen at the position than in previous years.

Speaker 32010.52s - 2024.78s

And the one that everyone kind of thought would be the RB1 in this class, Jonathan Brooks PERSON, obviously suffering the season-ending injury in college. But Ian Rabbitport, after he got drafted, was like, no, they expect him to be ready in July. So, Bucky, what are your expectations for Jonathan Brooks in year one?

Speaker 82027.08s - 2041.4s

I think it's hard to really have high expectations. One, normally, I know people come back from an ACL, but normally it takes two years before you're really settled in. And so to think that he's going to come off of the ACL, jump right into the mix and be the guy. And also, they have Miles Sanders PERSON there.

Speaker 02041.48s - 2046.98s

They still have some other running backs there. I would think that they would probably be fairly conservative in their approach.

Speaker 82047.84s - 2064.5s

If he plays, man, maybe he does some stuff down the stress like the last half of the season. But it's hard to count on that. I actually can play. He's super talented. He has a lot of ability. It's just a matter if he's going to be healthy enough to kind of handle the responsibility of being a guy that gets in the mix and plays a lot.

Speaker 102065.2s - 2074.46s

So the fantasy streets are buzzing right now around Kamani Vidal going to the Chargers, and they already have a one-two punch with J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards PERSON.

Speaker 82074.9s - 2083.6s

So the fantasy streets are thinking or leaning on the side that he may have a larger role, or should we just be worried that, you know, they already have a larger mouse to feed there?

Speaker 102084.48s - 2087.82s

No, because I think with J.K. Dobbins PERSON, you got to treat him.

Speaker 82087.88s - 2092.14s

If we're playing Spades, you got to treat J.K. Dobbins PERSON as a possible. You can't count that book. You don't know if he's going.

Speaker 102092.86s - 2097.38s

Yeah, you can't count it. Like, if it works, it works.

Speaker 112097.38s - 2102.32s

But so now it's a situation with Gus Edwards and Vidal PERSON.

Speaker 102102.4s - 2105.54s

And I would say this, watching him, super productive at Troy ORG.

Speaker 112106.58s - 2114.34s

I mean, just like a go-getter. Like you see him handle a heavy workload. He kind of has the right temperament. And the one thing that we know about Jim Harbaugh PERSON,

Speaker 82114.88s - 2158.1s

he's going to run the football. The other thing that we would know just by looking at Michigan ORG, he's going to do it with multiple running backs. He did it up there, even though they had Blake Corm PERSON, they had another running back, Donovan, that could make it happen. So, yeah, I would be okay with that. I would keep an eye onhim. I would, I think you stash him and you just kind of wait and see how it plays out, but he's certainly going to get an opportunity because one thing we know, he is going to run the football. He said it. You can continue to believe him or not believe him, but they are going to run the football. And I will say this, the last time the Chargers ORG, like going way back, had a mentality at the top of the team that was like Jim Harbaugh was Marty Schoenheimer PERSON. Look up LT stats then. Look at the amount of

Speaker 52158.1s - 2162.42s

touchdowns that LT was putting up back then. And they were, look, they were a running team.

Speaker 82162.48s - 2177.24s

And he had everybody, he had a quarterback. He had Philip Rivers. He had Drew Reeves PERSON and they still ran the football. So for me, I am more intrigued by that because he is going to try and establish the team's mentality and they're going to run the football. So all those guys in the back field are going to be viable

Speaker 22177.24s - 2181.64s

options. I mean, I go back to even at Stanford, he had Andrew Luck PERSON and he ran the football.

Speaker 82182.18s - 2188.6s

That's what he does. Like he had us thinking, yeah, he had us thinking that Toby Garrow PERSON was like a real dude,

Speaker 22188.7s - 2190.32s

like a high-end dude.

Speaker 32190.44s - 2192.58s

So they're going to run the football. So, yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 22192.88s - 2195.44s

But all being there is somewhat of interest for sure.

Speaker 82197.02s - 2199.1s

Greg Roman's PERSON offense running a lot, I'm not sure.

Speaker 22199.9s - 2200.66s

That's, that's new.

Speaker 82200.82s - 2201.08s

You know?

Speaker 22202.22s - 2205.8s

I got to ask you about tight ends because we all love Brock Bowers PERSON.

Speaker 82206.24s - 2280.04s

He goes to the Raiders ORG. Does this mean they gave up on Michael? Because I like Michael Mayer, too. I mean, the dude had a great career at Notre Dame ORG. Does this mean they've given up on Michael Mayer? Or are they going to actually try to run two tight ends out there now?No, I think they're going to run two tight ends. I think this was a situation where you hear this time of year, best player available. He was the best player available. I think some teams had him rated as a top five player on the board. The ratings get to him, the quarterback's not there because there was an assumption that if Michael Pennix was there, he was going to be their guy. So Pennix PERSON is off the board. So now you have Brock Bowler PERSON staring you right then. You're like, oh, my goodness. Like, how great is this? I think what they will have an opportunity to do is people call 12 personnel, one back, two tight ends, two wide receivers. And what that does is it would balance out the way the defense has to play.It changes the coverages that you can see. So we're not only kind of open up the field for, like Michael Meyer PERSON, it may open up the field for Devante Adams because it's harder to double team with two tight ends on the field. The problem, do we really believe that Gardner Meninshu is going to be able to be the quarterback to do it? And people get excited about Garnedaventu PERSON, but I remember there are a lot of games. We had 150 or so yards for the Indianapolis Colts ORG and they won in spite of, not because

Speaker 02280.04s - 2284.52s

of. And so that's the situation. Who is going to be the guy that's throwing it? Because Bowers

Speaker 82284.52s - 2294.6s

can be as talented as anybody. But can the quarterback get in the ball? That's the million-dollar question with the Raiders ORG. And when we were talking about tight ends at draft

Speaker 32294.6s - 2307.34s

season, it felt like Brock Bowers was the only one. But there's some other guys like Ben Sinat PERSON, Chetavion Sanders, Eric Al. Is there any tight-end, now that we know landing spot that you think could have a year one impact?

Speaker 82308.06s - 2345.56s

Jatio Sanders, just because he goes to Carolina ORG. Drew Canales PERSON is going to make sure that he does everything in his power to fix the quarterback. So Bryce Young PERSON, they've upgraded the pieces around him. Deante Johnson PERSON coming over. You still have Adam Thielen PERSON. You have weapons that can move the needle. Well, someone has to be able to control the middle of the field. That's where Saunders PERSON comes in. He comes in and does it because that's what he did at Texas ORG. He dominated right down the seams. It's an easy throw for the quarterback. He's the guy that our kind of peg as, hey, let's keep an eye on him because his production could be through the roof his first year. I'm actually on the clock.

Speaker 102345.66s - 2347.26s

I'm going to be drafting him next.

Speaker 82348.18s - 2349s

Good look, Mucky PERSON.

Speaker 102349.58s - 2350.76s

He's drafted right now.

Speaker 82351.56s - 2353.58s

But, man, we appreciate the time.

Speaker 102353.68s - 2354.38s

Appreciate the insights.

Speaker 22354.5s - 2357.04s

I know you and DJ still doing Move the Sticks WORK_OF_ART.

Speaker 102357.18s - 2358.68s

What else you got going on?

Speaker 82358.92s - 2365.14s

Yeah, no, move the sticks. So we got that going. We're on a little week vacation. DJ PERSON's all tired from the draft.

Speaker 22365.22s - 2397.44s

So we're going to take some time off. Then we'll get back together and kind of start digging into it in the summer. So now, look, man, it's all fun. This is the fun time of year because the hard part is guessing where guys are going to go. Now that you see him, this is the fun part of being able to kind of get excited when the schedule comes out. Hopefully next week, get a chance to kind of peg when guys are going to make those major jumps. So I'm enjoying this part of it. I got to ask you about that too when the schedule comes down. I know there's kind of been this thing about the post-buy bump. Is that really a thing? Do rookies sort of like take a jump in your experience after having a buy week?

Speaker 82397.94s - 2433.3s

Sometimes because you got to remember. So like physically, these guys have not had a break. I mean, look, since before the summer of their final seasons. Because the way that the schedule goes, like, they go from playing to then the All-Star games to Combine to Minicam EVENT to playing. So that week by is the first time that they'll be able to take a deep breath and kindof just chill out for a bit. So, yeah, like they kind of can get their sea legs back, kind of figure out, oh, what am I doing? Because it's been a whirlwind. That first year playing in the league is kind of chaotic because you just don't know what is going on.So, yeah, that's your work.

Speaker 22434.7s - 2440.48s

Definitely something to keep in mind, sure, as we go through the season. Bucky PERSON, I appreciate you, man. Let's talk again soon. Hey, man.

Speaker 82440.52s - 2441.16s

Thanks for having me on, guys.

Speaker 22441.46s - 2462.74s

We appreciate everybody who's been jumping in on that as well.
