Speaker 337.06s - 62.46s

What a wonderful day. Are we thankful for the words of Caesar PERSON? We are thankful. Do we bend our hate? We bend. Say his words.Say his words. Say his words. What a wonderful day.

Speaker 263.46s - 67.14s

And what a wonderful day. It is Todd PERSON. I am here with Sean PERSON,

Speaker 367.92s - 69.52s

who is sitting in the heart of Dallas.

Speaker 069.68s - 71.62s

We're doing this kind of old school

Speaker 471.62s - 73.84s

where we aren't face to face.

Speaker 273.96s - 76.36s

We haven't done this in a while, but high for Dallas.

Speaker 476.36s - 77.04s

I sound a little different.

Speaker 277.24s - 78.08s

Yeah, hello.

Speaker 478.3s - 79.06s

How's it going up there?

Speaker 279.18s - 81.2s

Trying to stay inside out of the heat.

Speaker 481.4s - 85.5s

No shit. One of those kind of days already in Texas GPE. But the real news of why we're here is what One of those kind of days already in Texas GPE. But the real

Speaker 285.5s - 90.84s

news of why we're here is what Sean and I got together to do last night. And that was,

Speaker 491.84s - 97.02s

we saw a kingdom of the planet of the age. We saw a sneak of kingdom. One of those wonderful

Speaker 297.02s - 101.18s

things when you sign up for enough of these, they come across. And we were fortunate enough to be

Speaker 4101.18s - 111.8s

able to snatch those up and wait in line with a lot of people who love to bitch and moan that I'm not going to get to see a free movie.

Speaker 2112.16s - 116.58s

Yeah, so before Sean PERSON got there, it was already the, I'm not going to get in, I'm not going to get in.

Speaker 4116.64s - 119.76s

The lady from AMC completely walked up and said, we're showing at two theaters.

Speaker 2119.98s - 123.88s

About 350 seats in each, you're going to get in.

Speaker 4124.38s - 125.72s

And still they complained.

Speaker 2125.92s - 131.12s

And then at the very end, one lady, did you hear the one that was really like yelling

Speaker 4131.12s - 133.14s

out, I'm too old to be standing in this line?

Speaker 0133.34s - 134.04s

Yes, yes.

Speaker 2134.34s - 139.72s

I mean, if I don't have my QR code, I've been, I've got my QR code, but I've been

Speaker 4139.72s - 141.06s

standing here, I better get in there.

Speaker 2141.16s - 142.28s

It's like, you're going to get in there.

Speaker 4142.36s - 144.08s

You're like at the, almost front of the line.

Speaker 2144.08s - 148.24s

And even with that, the person said, if you don't have a QR code,

Speaker 4148.58s - 156.76s

come talk to us. Come talk to me. They're going to let you in. They're going to find a way to let you in. The long story short, going to these previews is often a journey in and of itself.

Speaker 2156.76s - 162.44s

Simply, you're seeing a lot of people getting something for free, acting like a bunch of people

Speaker 4162.44s - 176.12s

getting something. Entitled people getting something entitled people yes so we go anyways we go into the theater uh just to give the complete what what there was also someone in line that i joked with sean i may throw it down with them because they had one of the loudest laughs

Speaker 2176.12s - 185.04s

i've ever heard of it was just grating and i said please don't let that person sit next to us i go out to get my refreshments. Snacks, yeah.

Speaker 4185.08s - 196.36s

And what does Sean PERSON text me? But do you remember? He's sitting two teeth down for me. Yes. And I was like, uh-uh. And he's like, oh yeah, sure enough.Yes. Good thing was, they were quiet during the movie. I appreciate it.

Speaker 1196.44s - 198.48s

Even though her, I think that was her boyfriend,

Speaker 4199.16s - 203.96s

had apparently sign this issues and constantly made noises through the movie.

Speaker 2204.62s - 205.96s

I don't think that was the ape.

Speaker 1206.08s - 223.64s

So let's get to the movie. The movie itself, let's use Wikipedia ORG's description. 300 years after the events of war for the plenty of the apes, ape civilizations have emerged from the oasis to which Caesar PERSON led his fellow apes, while humans have regressed into a feral primitive

Speaker 2223.64s - 244.72s

state. When the ape, king, Proimus Caesar PERSON, armed with weapons forged from human, lost human technologies, perverts Caesar PERSON's teachings to enslave other clans, the chimpanzee hunter, Noah PERSON, embarks on a harrowing journey alongside a human woman to determine the future for apes and humans alike. So that's it. It's kind of a hero's journey.

Speaker 3245.84s - 250.58s

I don't know that we've had really in the ape film thing.

Speaker 2250.82s - 251.74s

I'm let my mind sit.

Speaker 3251.94s - 254.06s

A hero's journey, just a hero's journey.

Speaker 4254.06s - 254.26s

I know.

Speaker 3254.34s - 257.56s

I'm trying to think if when a denying the call would have been,

Speaker 4258.86s - 274.12s

you know, I can just think Caesar PERSON, not really denying the call, but well, no, yeah, whenever he's cat, when Caesar PERSON is put in the ape enclosure and he then stops wanting to see well. Yeah, yeah. That could, that could be a little

Speaker 2274.12s - 291.08s

bit. It felt unique. It felt unique in this way to me that it didn't feel necessarily like, you know, we didn't have an immediate human ape separation because like they say this is in the future things have you know humans have evolved yeah

Speaker 4291.08s - 298.9s

Caesar PERSON's teachings have gotten there I will say and I'm gonna I'm gonna spoil with how I felt last night and it's changed a little so much so that I've already bought a ticket to

Speaker 2298.9s - 304.42s

go tomorrow uh-huh well you're gonna stay awake during this one yeah I admit to it so

Speaker 4304.42s - 305.62s

it was a seven o'clock showing yeah and the truth of it was there were two factors number Uh-huh. Well, you're going to stay awake during this one? Yeah, I admit to it. So the...

Speaker 2305.62s - 307.22s

It was a 7 o'clock showing, yeah.

Speaker 4307.38s - 319.54s

And the truth of it was, there were two factors. Number one, my poor sweet wife is sick. I have gigs this weekend. I can't sleep in the bed. I have been sleeping on the couch. I could not sleep.I was already tired. And I made the dumb decision to have a double red wine.

Speaker 2320.66s - 324.74s

And about halfway through, I got myself a lovely little power nap.

Speaker 4325.2s - 329.6s

You got your little bit of Phen of the Menace ORG power nap in? Oh, God.

Speaker 2329.76s - 349.04s

A Phantom Minus PERSON power nap? The difference is, Phantom Minish PERSON, you don't need the red wine. You just watch the movie. But I did kind of in the middle stretch, and it was after the journey begins that I just kind of and the next thing I knew, I was in a place. I was like, oh, well, yeah, yeah I missed that I'm going to see it againmy feelings last night were kind of

Speaker 4349.04s - 351.68s

unmoved by it uh

Speaker 2351.68s - 355.82s

me on reflection I'm enjoying it more

Speaker 4355.82s - 356.98s

well me too

Speaker 2356.98s - 360.02s

so this is not a spoiler because

Speaker 4360.02s - 395.16s

it's in this description that you just read but it's really a lot about how time and from a distance from a meaning can change that meaning depending on who is using. Exactly. And most importantly, I mean, the most direct correlation I can think of it right now isevangelicals who support Trump, you know, that he has no basis in Christianity ORG anywhere. He doesn't follow any of the teachings of Christ PERSON that there are churches out there saying that he's the next coming of Jesus PERSON. Right.

Speaker 2395.26s - 401.72s

And I think that's a pretty, it's not even saying on the nose. I mean, it's a truthful, I think it's the intent.

Speaker 4401.84s - 417.2s

I think you're looking at that the Christianity, how many thousands of years evolved evolved from it, that we look at it and people now use it to distort it to their own views. And I think that that's like prosperity churches and stuff like that, where that's not what Jesus PERSON, Jesus wasn't about making money. No, no, it wasn't.

Speaker 2417.4s - 419.02s

Not to get into a church stuff.

Speaker 4419.18s - 427.06s

Damn you, Sean. We're talking apes. But I think that's exactly right. And I think that maybe last night, my power nap aside,

Speaker 2427.96s - 432.16s

I think that's where initially my thought was,

Speaker 4432.32s - 434.46s

I don't know, but the more I thought about it on the way,

Speaker 2434.54s - 441.9s

it was literally drive home. I texted the girls when I left, and they were like, how was that? I wasn't. Me? By the time I got home, I said, well, hang on.

Speaker 0442.6s - 445.88s

I think that, I think because it really adhered to what

Speaker 2445.88s - 448.16s

the original did with so many

Speaker 0448.16s - 450.42s

social things that

Speaker 2450.42s - 458.76s

maybe this might be one of the stronger ones. And I said, so that's why I already took one of my Cinemark ORG tokens and bought myself a ticket to go see it again.

Speaker 4459.76s - 474.42s

So, and I don't want to get into spoiler stuff, but I remember last night we were talking about certain characters and surprise if they could do what they did. And then I started thinking about it, no, they've done that in the series as well, if you think about it,and especially in the second movie.

Speaker 2475.2s - 476.72s

Yeah, and now...

Speaker 4476.72s - 477.64s

And beneath, yeah.

Speaker 2477.8s - 481.6s

And I think that if we get into also comparing it to the originals,

Speaker 4481.64s - 482.78s

let's talk production design.

Speaker 2482.86s - 484.02s

I think that it is...

Speaker 4484.02s - 491.48s

Oh, well, yeah. I mean, there's a scene that feels like it came straight out of the first movie with all the humans being captured in the field.

Speaker 2491.92s - 511.6s

And they've even got rope nuts and everything, yeah. Yeah, you've seen that in the preview. I think some of the things where we look at a dystopian earth civilization, I don't want to say any of it, because some of those were the lovely little nuggets that I really enjoyed, but you're seeing vegetation and rust and whatever, take over things and how they...

Speaker 4511.6s - 515.54s

And then eventually you kind of get a glimpse of what they used to be.

Speaker 2515.7s - 533.98s

Yeah. I think some of that is really great. I think that that's actually where I started going back and going, okay, hang on. What expectation did you walk in with and what were you hoping this was going to be? Because as my brain went back to it, that was the first thing was the production design. I think the production design is outstanding.

Speaker 4535.22s - 539.08s

Oh, and the visual effects. That's the next thing you got to go to.

Speaker 2539.08s - 544.06s

The character, the way they look, oh, you're going to hear my dog barking because an airplane is flying over.

Speaker 4544.72s - 578.48s

I mean, just the visual effects on the characters themselves, the way the light goes through skin, the hair, the skin itself. I mean, it was the hands whenever. There was a scene where Noah PERSON covered the female character's hands, and his hands were massively bigger than hers. And I was wondering, did they do that? Did he cover her hands in real life with his hands and they made him bigger? Or did they have like an effect hand that then they went over?Because that just showed the size difference between the humans and the AIDS. Right.

Speaker 2578.72s - 596.6s

I thought that much like that, there were times, you know, not the size difference, but the environmental special effects. Because there's a moment when, pretty much at the head of the film, when we first meet the young human woman and there's kind of a fish smokehouse.

Speaker 4597.38s - 603.26s

And I thought some of the lighting within that, because you knew a lot of that, they may have hung some of the fish there that she's kind of.

Speaker 2603.76s - 615.96s

Oh, yeah. There's practical stuff. But the lighting, much of that had to be digitally done to make it work across all facets of it and this is either where she's cowering in a shadow or i think that's no one in that

Speaker 4615.96s - 623.36s

moment you know yeah no as the fish is moving and he's he's not real and and the lighting and the

Speaker 2623.36s - 626.3s

consistency that shot or he's yeah where he's in

Speaker 4626.3s - 631.18s

between the light and he's in between the fire and you and the camera and yeah he's backlit and

Speaker 2631.18s - 636.42s

everything i thought that that moment alone i thought damn the the i think that's wet a workshop that did

Speaker 4636.42s - 642.9s

all that and their work alone needs to be applauded just for that well if by the way if you hear any

Speaker 2642.9s - 645.02s

jingling that's my dog. Oh, that's okay.

Speaker 4646.88s - 647.28s

We heard a little bitty bark, not a big deal.

Speaker 2649s - 649.14s

You know, we don't want to keep this too long.

Speaker 4653.76s - 654.46s

This is directed by West Ball, who did the Maze Runner WORK_OF_ART film films.

Speaker 2659.56s - 659.66s

And I told Sean last night I'd heard Barry Jenkins, the award-winning director of Moonlight WORK_OF_ART,

Speaker 4663.9s - 669.08s

apparently went school with West Ball and had said really good things about how strong of a director he was and how the Mazur PERSON and films were not indicative of his strength. You could tell the studio

Speaker 0669.08s - 673.9s

had probably kept a thumb on him because he was relatively new. I think that's another

Speaker 4673.9s - 678.58s

thing that's kind of resonating with me is this. There is a director's presence in this one.

Speaker 0678.88s - 683.58s

You know, you can't say that in a lot of the original films because the studios were controlling,

Speaker 2683.74s - 685.22s

cutting budgets, etc.

Speaker 0686s - 686.06s

But this one,

Speaker 2686.48s - 686.58s

you could tell,

Speaker 4688.24s - 688.48s

this is a storyteller who wanted to tell a story.

Speaker 2689.24s - 690.92s

It's a little long. I think you probably could have turned about...

Speaker 4690.92s - 691.9s

Two and a half hours, yeah.

Speaker 2692.02s - 700.64s

I think you could turn to about 15 minutes and been okay, but then again, I think some of what works so well is how it can be an action film and then very quiet.Yeah.

Speaker 4701.4s - 708.28s

They do invoke a lot of Caesar with Noah PERSON the way he talks very quietly.

Speaker 2708.98s - 712.72s

Well, I even think the look of him now, I know, you know, obviously...

Speaker 4712.72s - 714.94s

They're not saying he's a descendant of Caesar PERSON or anything.

Speaker 2715.26s - 730.2s

But yeah, he's kind of got that patch where it's a little bare patch, which kind of matches the scar that Caesar PERSON used to have. And being a chimp, it's obvious it's easy to look and say he looked alike. But there were, I think there were intentional similarities. Yeah. Not so much that's distracting.

Speaker 4730.84s - 735.96s

On the bad guy side, I swear they made one of the chimps look like coba. Yeah, I thought the exact

Speaker 2735.96s - 741.94s

same thing. Yeah. I, um, now go ahead. No, if you had something because I again, I don't want to keep

Speaker 4741.94s - 758.84s

this too long. We're probably a little over 10 minutes now. I was just going to talk about the writer, Josh Friedman PERSON. I was looking at his filmography. As far as film writing, he wrote, Roar the Worlds for Steven Spielberg, for a black dahlia for Brian DePalma PERSON. He wrote this. He's writing, at least of right now, who knows, stuff always changes.

Speaker 3760.14s - 761.98s

The Fantastic Four WORK_OF_ART movie.

Speaker 4765.92s - 773.44s

He's writing Avatar 4 and an untitled Star Trek WORK_OF_ART film. But he did stories for chain reaction, Terminator Dark Fate, Avatar, the Way of Water, and Avatar 3 WORK_OF_ART.

Speaker 2778s - 778.1s

So take that in mind when you see this.

Speaker 4779.44s - 790.08s

He's written some okay stuff. He's written some stuff that you might find mediocre. He's written some good stuff. And then he did some TV stuff like Terminator WORK_OF_ART, the Sarah Connor Chronicles, Locke and Key WORK_OF_ART, The Finder WORK_OF_ART,

Speaker 2791.56s - 822.8s

Crossbones WORK_OF_ART, yeah. Snowpiercer and Foundation WORK_OF_ART. I don't know if you watch Foundation on Apple ORG TV, but that's excellent. I wanted to. I haven't gotten there. I think that it definitely feels likean intentional step away from the previous films by and large. And I even read something today with Westball PERSON saying that he intentionally wanted to do that because he didn't want to get into that fandom, that toxic fandom behavior where it's like, well, that's not where I saw this going. He's like, let's just avoid it. Let's use it as that's happening.

Speaker 4822.8s - 839.14s

Yeah, let's get a couple hundred years away. Yes. We're not going to be dealing with how humans really react with apes anymore because, you know, they've been devolved and all that kind of stuff. Yeah. Yeah.So I think it's more about the, it's more about the ape society and how they've evolved in the last couple hundred years.

Speaker 2839.14s - 848.8s

And the weird thing is that I think that it, going back to what you said before is how it's a direct correlation to our use of behavior, has humanity really evolved much?

Speaker 4849s - 854.34s

We have those foundations and we continue to use them against each other instead of to help each other.

Speaker 2855.56s - 859.72s

And what this one does that the original movies didn't do

Speaker 4859.72s - 867.58s

was it introduces different factions to the apes.

Speaker 0867.7s - 891.2s

In the first movie, there was just one city. So we only knew what one place. The second movie, it was that same city, but we got the mute. And the third one, we weren't really dealing with the apes anymorebecause we went back and passed. The fourth one, we were dealing with the apes coming together finally. And in the fifth one it was just one place again and this one actually covers two factions and how they are different and how they

Speaker 2891.2s - 901.46s

you know grew apart and stuff like that i'm curious to see if where they'll take this if it does well enough to to to warrant a sequel i would think that they said they want to do another trilogy

Speaker 4901.46s - 905.6s

yeah i wouldn't think disney was going to do. They may not do it with West Ball PERSON, but

Speaker 2905.6s - 908s

it does

Speaker 4908s - 909.98s

have a moment at the end where you go,

Speaker 2910.08s - 912s

okay, they're trying to tell us. It does lend itself

Speaker 4912s - 913s

to a sequel, yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 2913.5s - 915.84s

So there's... There's no post-credit

Speaker 4915.84s - 917.86s

scene. No, don't worry about that. Thank

Speaker 2917.86s - 925.22s

God PERSON. If I can be a sole entity that exercises Hollywood the post-credit scene, I will work my ass off. Come on. Half the time you know they're doing it to make people stay through the credits so scene, I will work my ass off.

Speaker 4925.58s - 927.98s

Come on. Half the time you know they're doing it to make people

Speaker 2927.98s - 951.86s

stay through the credits so that, you know, all these people that worked on it, you get to look at their name up there for a minute. They got paychecks. They get to keep working. I appreciate them and you know I apply them. I just, I'm so tired of that. That's a discussion for another time.I think overall that we're both saying a day afterwards, we like it. I don't know where it fits yet, but that I can also say that War for the Plan of the Aves WORK_OF_ART, after we saw that, we saw that when they showed all three of them.

Speaker 4951.86s - 959.48s

All three together, yeah. And I think when it finally showed, it was like almost 11 o'clock at night. And so we were both like, oh. Yeah.

Speaker 2959.72s - 963s

So I have a feeling that it's going to play like that.

Speaker 0963.04s - 969.18s

Where I really like that film now, when I saw it the first time, I was just like, oh, God, I'm just beaten down by watching three movies back to back to back.

Speaker 4970.38s - 971.98s

I don't know where this one fits yet.

Speaker 2972.64s - 978.6s

I'm glad to see that we get a good story that when the three of us sit down together, we'll be able to talk about.

Speaker 4978.6s - 978.8s

Yeah.

Speaker 2979.26s - 987.18s

Which to that point, we'll wrap this up by saying we actually are in production on rise at the Plenty of the Apes FAC.

Speaker 0988.82s - 1006.92s

So we are, we're getting there. We will, we will release it. I had hoped that we could release it right around the time of this film, but we're doing this for that very reason. We wanted to come out and say, hey, we're still here. We're working on this. It's just been a little bit of chaos between Richard and his workouts for a comic book day DATE.

Speaker 31007.08s - 1008.4s

I've had a lot of things happen on my watch.

Speaker 01008.4s - 1009.88s

People being sick, travel, yeah.

Speaker 21010.02s - 1012.22s

And Sean PERSON's got puppies that have issues.

Speaker 41012.4s - 1015.42s

And so we've all been struggling just to get things to work out.

Speaker 21015.86s - 1017.38s

With that said, we are working.

Speaker 41017.58s - 1018.32s

It will happen.

Speaker 21018.4s - 1019s

It will happen.

Speaker 41019.1s - 1022.16s

I would venture guests within the next couple of months.

Speaker 21022.86s - 1023.14s

Yeah.

Speaker 41023.56s - 1024.9s

I think that's it, Sean PERSON.
