Speaker 20s - 46.58s
This week's show goes in a lot of different directions. It gets a little spicy. It gets a little bizarre. It gets a little weird. And hopefully it gets your attention. This week, we have Jake LaTondres, Bassmaster videographer, right back from Lake Murray LOC,with lots of behind-the-scenes info from there. And as if that's not enough, I am joined by Mr. Fear My Heart, Carl Joccobson PERSON, with a really cool initiative. And some stuff he wants to get off his chest. As I said, this one gets spicy. Carl Jocopson and Jake LaTondras joined me this week. Oh.I'm Bob Cobb for the Bassmaster ORG.
Speaker 047.12s - 48.36s
Welcome to Mercer ORG.
Speaker 250.22s - 52.24s
Welcome one, welcome all friends, family,
Speaker 052.38s - 55s
freeloaders, fishing freaks, and all my humpers.
Speaker 255.12s - 179.08s
Happy hump day to each and every one of you. Welcome into the awkwardly honest fishing podcast that goes by my last name, which is Mercer ORG. This is the 161st edition of the Mercer ORG podcast. And, you know, you guys think I have plans. You think that it's all set out.You know, this is this week, we're going to talk about this. I'm a mess. And this episode proves just that. We have Jake PERSON LaTonderson, who one of the best Jake takes we've ever done. Really funny. A lot of stuff we cover, a lot of the best Jake PERSON takes we've ever done. Really funny. A lot of stuff we cover, a lot of behind the scenes stuff going on at the event. And then I have Carl Jacobson PERSON on. And I was like, you know, we'll just do 20 to 30 minutes real quick on a new initiative that he's got going. Well, he wanted to open up and open up he does. We talk about a lot of things. Well, we basically try to fix every problem there is in professional bass fishing. We go over every single little controversy or little thing that got traffic this year on the Bassmaster Elite PRODUCT series. And we both give our opinions on how to fix it. We may be totally wrong, but this show is totally long. And if you need to break it up in a couple of bits, that's fine. But I never cut off a good conversation for to fit into some sort of box. And again, this week I did not.The 20-minute segment with Carl Jacobson PERSON, much longer than that. I hope you enjoy it. Let's just jump right into this. This is going to be a fun one. Let's kick it off what Jake PERSON's take. They always enjoyable. Jake La Tonnes PERSON. Just in case anybody on earth ever, ever thought of thinking that we do not love the fine folks that listen to this show, we literally, you know,we're like, Jake PERSON's just back from blah, blah, blah. And it's normally just, that's the sentence you use, but it's been a day or two. Both of us literally just freaking walked in the door. You haven't even seen your children yet. You're picking it up in a little while, I assume. So, hey, thanks for doing this, Jake PERSON.
Speaker 1179.38s - 181.02s
I literally just walk.
Speaker 2181.04s - 185.16s
I brought my backpack down here to pull my computer out to get this
Speaker 1185.16s - 191.28s
fired up literally just walked in the door who does this we're stupid we're stupid
Speaker 2191.28s - 198.4s
dedicatedly stupid yes yes that better earn us a freaking like or something I'm not asking this
Speaker 1198.4s - 204.1s
week you better freaking give us some love okay that's right you better bring it because I
Speaker 2204.1s - 206.58s
didn't give any to my wife for you guys.
Speaker 1209.12s - 210.92s
I didn't even say hi to my dog.
Speaker 2211.1s - 212.74s
I haven't even said hi to my dog yet.
Speaker 1212.92s - 214.04s
Not even a bone.
Speaker 2214.48s - 215.72s
Not even a bone.
Speaker 1215.96s - 217.78s
And I wasn't talking about the dog.
Speaker 2221.78s - 237.12s
What a bizarre event, an awesome event. They always seem ridiculous. When it goes a day longer, it feels like a lot longer. Like I know this sounds stupid to people, but like everybody yesterday is walking around like a zombie. Do you feel the same?
Speaker 1237.72s - 245.42s
Oh, I was shot, dude, because I did some extra work while I was there with Sega and Taku Ito PERSON. And so. You can say it like that extra work. Extra work sounds with Sego and Taku Ito PERSON.
Speaker 2247.24s - 248.06s
And so you can say it like that extra work.
Speaker 1250.68s - 250.86s
Extra work sounds like you're doing extra stuff for your employer.
Speaker 2252.44s - 252.94s
You did a little side hustle.
Speaker 1253.18s - 271.48s
Okay. Side hustling. Side hustling. Yeah. We were rolling the dice. And yeah. So, you know, I worked every day.I'm assuming you did. And we all did. And even the days off, you know, the anglers, I talked to even talk to, even Taku was saying on his day off, he just laid around and slipped and it makes you lazy.
Speaker 2271.72s - 278.4s
And it gets you away from your, you know, the last day of practice and it kind of pulls you away from your, your psyche.
Speaker 1279.1s - 279.92s
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2280.22s - 286.5s
We and, me and Davy stayed right there, which was awesome. Tell me about that.
Speaker 1287.4s - 287.6s
No.
Speaker 2288.24s - 298.94s
And, but we were all set on the day off, like the first day, the canceled day, the postponed day, whatever post-canceled day, whatever we're referring to it as.
Speaker 0299.1s - 300.86s
That was a total typo in my post.
Speaker 3301.02s - 303.2s
It became a thing, and it kind of was a joke.
Speaker 0303.84s - 304.76s
I digress.
Speaker 2307.32s - 334.42s
But we're all set to go fishing, dude. I'm excited. Like the days off, I mean, there's a storm coming, but it's nice. And we're going to go to this private pond. And I mean, freaking Davey Hyde PERSON is the governor of South Carolina. So, you know, we're going somewhere good. And then Bowman called and was like, we need you to do a dip. Did you get on there at the live and do, talk about cicadas with Brandon Pollanick PERSON for an hour and a half
Speaker 3334.42s - 338.26s
or whatever. So it screwed up our fishing trip. So we didn't get to do it.
Speaker 2338.78s - 358.86s
But it was a good tournament. I mean, domination by Patrick Walters. I mean, and not secret domination. Like he was just better than, you know, anybody in the entire tournament, some odd things that happened. There was a sign, a flag that was floating around all week. I talked about it in the stage.
Speaker 3358.86s - 363.48s
I saw it. He said John Cox PERSON does not need lives cope.
Speaker 2363.78s - 364.3s
I know.
Speaker 3365.32s - 366.36s
That's not what is it.
Speaker 1366.96s - 368.04s
Slow down.
Speaker 2368.24s - 388.02s
Okay. Okay. You're all hopped up just got off the plane. I'm getting there. It said, I thought all week on stage had been saying it says John Cox PERSON does not need live scope. But it turns out that when I saw the sign, it says, big cox does not need live scope. So every part of me wants to start calling a big cox when he weighs in.
Speaker 1388.38s - 390.24s
And it was spelled COX.
Speaker 2390.7s - 392.84s
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, big cox.
Speaker 1393.28s - 398.5s
The funny thing about that flag was we parked in front of it on two different occasions.
Speaker 2398.78s - 403.58s
I did once with Lee and I did once with Brandon Cobb PERSON and the wind was blowing.
Speaker 1403.74s - 408.94s
Whoever put it up should have pinned it, like stretched it out, pinned it against two trees
Speaker 2408.94s - 411.52s
because it was blowing the wrong way and you couldn't read it.
Speaker 1411.78s - 415.18s
So it was like you had to look in a mirror backwards to read the thing.
Speaker 2415.34s - 416.7s
But yeah, it was pretty funny.
Speaker 1417.14s - 418.2s
The secret decoder.
Speaker 2418.54s - 419.76s
That was not the only sign.
Speaker 1419.98s - 421.96s
I don't know if I'm comfortable even showing these.
Speaker 2421.96s - 444.06s
I didn't even know if you saw them, but like a lot of anglers got them. I got into town and I found out that there was these stickers floating around from some dude. And if I was a better human, I'd know your name. He had a glorious gray beard longer than mine. But he is obviously from the Bassoll lodge at Lake Sam Rayburn FAC. Did you see these?
Speaker 1444.64s - 446.78s
I did. Lisa PERSON.
Speaker 2446.78s - 450.2s
They were on everybody's show me that. I know.
Speaker 1450.32s - 450.86s
I want one.
Speaker 2450.9s - 454.18s
Did you get extra? Well, I got these two. I'll give you one of them.
Speaker 1454.4s - 460.2s
Which one do you want? Square one or this round one? The square one.
Speaker 2460.76s - 461.44s
You're getting around.
Speaker 1461.44s - 462.06s
Rectangle.
Speaker 2462.36s - 463.36s
Okay. You're getting around one.
Speaker 1463.48s - 465.44s
I know you're going to do that. That's why i said that
Speaker 2465.44s - 477.4s
well but i'm thinking i mean i got you but i don't i don't want to be the president of anything not even a bass club never mind a freaking and what about america we need a new president
Speaker 1477.4s - 482.86s
new no no part of me no i'm aging you know how old people look when they're the president
Speaker 2482.86s - 488.44s
of the prime minister or anything? I'm rapidly aging as master MC.
Speaker 1490.32s - 492.42s
I don't need any more stress in my life.
Speaker 3492.96s - 492.98s
I mean,
Speaker 2496.22s - 497.4s
I just have to remember to when to bring the boom and the Shackalaka. Hey,
Speaker 1501.92s - 502.38s
those three o'clock a.m. wakeups and early flights home age me quick.
Speaker 2503.4s - 517.1s
Yes, they do. They do. On the way home, I actually hung with uh w w w w wrestler robert rhodes PERSON he's now retired now yeah yeah i guess um we know each other i mean
Speaker 1517.1s - 523.04s
canadian people know each other oh previous oh we've met each other at different charity events
Speaker 0523.04s - 528.2s
and believe it or not when you're in the wrestling business and you live where I live,
Speaker 2528.44s - 531.14s
which is he lives like not far from me and a half hour away,
Speaker 1531.78s - 534.04s
we end up on the same flight every once in a while.
Speaker 2534.12s - 548.96s
So we were literally sitting right behind each other. And it was cool to see him. And I'm name dropping him just so I seem cool really right now. I mean, I run into other people never name dropped them. But this guy is a badass. So I did. It was pretty cool to hear his take on like wrestling's
Speaker 1548.96s - 554.78s
exploding now. Like it's freaking really making a huge comeback. Oh dude. I didn't it's bigger than maybe
Speaker 2554.78s - 581.2s
it's ever been like. Wow. But the cool thing was he said a lot of it in his opinion has to be due with the new. Well, actually you know what I was just thinking if if I said stuff like that, you know, he didn't say anything, Jake PERSON, is what I'm saying. I was just thinking, um, buddy wrestling is great right now. I just thought, I mean, we were having a real conversation.
Speaker 1581.38s - 588.68s
And I thought, you know, if I was saying stuff like this about Bass PERSON to some dude, and then he got on his podcast and started talking about it, I'd hate that dude.
Speaker 2589.84s - 590.76s
So it was great.
Speaker 1591s - 594.18s
It was great seeing him, the glorious one.
Speaker 2594.18s - 596.62s
Man, I don't, I'm not a wrestling fan.
Speaker 1596.82s - 604.74s
I was when I was a kid. And growing up in West Tennessee GPE, it was really big. I mean, we had like, it was the WWF ORG back then.
Speaker 3604.98s - 607.82s
Yeah. And they would come to literally
Speaker 1607.82s - 623.46s
our high school and set up a ring and sell tickets and clowns would walk around the the crowd and that was back in the like tojo yamamoto kamala like kamaugauga undan dragon i do you gondon GPE giant i know
Speaker 2623.46s - 625.98s
them very well sorry yeah i don I know him very well. Sorry.
Speaker 1626.42s - 626.54s
Yeah.
Speaker 2627.76s - 628.1s
I don't know him personally.
Speaker 1628.56s - 629.06s
I just know.
Speaker 3630.22s - 633.02s
I was a freaking figure, dude. I am a wrestling geek. Like, just so you know,
Speaker 2633.8s - 639.18s
if the WWE ORG ever calls, you're in. See you,
Speaker 1639.28s - 644.42s
you're out of bass. You would actually do pretty well there.
Speaker 2644.82s - 646.86s
Oh, gosh, I would love to do that. And I wouldn't leave bass. Oh gosh, I would love to do that.
Speaker 1647.7s - 649.18s
And I wouldn't leave bass.
Speaker 2649.26s - 657.38s
I mean, I'd love to do both in a perfect world. You'd be able to, but they've got this female announcer right now who's a total badass. Really?
Speaker 1658s - 658.92s
Oh, she's incredible.
Speaker 2659.1s - 675.58s
She, like, makes it super theatrical. Like every, she's insane, clearly, just like me. Like, why do I call, um, Ed Lachran PERSON,who's a lawyer, the barrister. And if you notice when I say it, I'm like, the barrister. Edward Lockren the third.Like, it's a character.
Speaker 1676.08s - 680.62s
And he's actually called him that in your interviews before when you went out, when you guys,
Speaker 2680.78s - 683.86s
when you interview the top 10, yeah. The barrister.
Speaker 1684.28s - 684.54s
Um,
Speaker 2684.6s - 685.4s
but it's cool. She puts, um, Samantha Irvin, yeah. The barrister. But it's cool.
Speaker 1685.58s - 689.1s
She puts Samantha Irvin, I believe her name is.
Speaker 2689.2s - 695.78s
I'm going to look it up so I'm not sounding like an idiot. But she is a badass announcer.
Speaker 3695.78s - 704.3s
So my chance of getting a job there is probably less likely.
Speaker 0705.74s - 709.26s
Do you know that Ed Lockerren PERSON and I have a mutual friend?
Speaker 2710.06s - 711.48s
Have I ever told you that?
Speaker 1711.96s - 713.62s
No, I bet you're about to, though.
Speaker 2713.62s - 717.18s
He grew up with a guy named Michael Kay PERSON,
Speaker 1717.48s - 737.1s
who was a bartender at the town pump, my bar in Fort Collins, Colorado for 10 years. And before I ever met Ed Lockerun PERSON, he's actually been to the town pump, my bar. Come on. I'm telling you.I wasn't even really paying attention.
Speaker 2737.26s - 738.14s
Samantha Irvin.
Speaker 1738.76s - 739.72s
It's her name.
Speaker 2740.18s - 744.98s
Come on. You don't even know what I said. Great story. There she is. There she is. WWE ORG announcer.
Speaker 1745.48s - 745.98s
Badass. She's engaged to a what I said. Great story. There she is. There she is. WWE ORG announcer. Badass.
Speaker 2747.18s - 749.22s
She's engaged to a wrestler too.
Speaker 3749.48s - 750.56s
She's engaged to a wrestler.
Speaker 1750.68s - 751.42s
So stand down.
Speaker 3751.62s - 752.1s
Speaker 1752.9s - 753.58s
Stand down.
Speaker 3753.58s - 755.54s
People are turning this off at a rapid pace.
Speaker 2757.5s - 759.34s
But wrestling is bigger than it's ever been.
Speaker 3759.44s - 760.36s
Part of it's because the rock.
Speaker 2760.48s - 766.7s
Part of it's because it now has new ownership. You know, UFC ORG. It's all under one oh dana white
Speaker 1766.7s - 772.92s
owned yeah wwee really i didn't know that well dana white no no the company that owns ufc owns
Speaker 2772.92s - 780.38s
w vwee so it's all one to one bigger umbrella i got you so yeah yeah that's um so i'll work
Speaker 3780.38s - 785.34s
for them all and bass and um then we'll never do podcasts, but we're doing one now.
Speaker 1787.18s - 788.84s
Let's talk about bass fishing.
Speaker 3789.04s - 789.68s
Let's do it.
Speaker 2789.92s - 790.72s
Let's do it.
Speaker 3791.44s - 792.32s
Speaker 2792.96s - 793.56s
Speaker 1794.52s - 797.52s
It was one of the most popular venues last year.
Speaker 2797.52s - 800.24s
Like people were excited to get back there.
Speaker 1800.24s - 803.46s
I think since 2012 since we've been there.
Speaker 2803.58s - 816.98s
I mean, I think the last time we were there before last year was, um, that's when, um, Casey Ashley won and Davey Hyte was second. It was the South Carolina GPE showdown.Giant crowds because both those dudes were in it. I remember that.
Speaker 0817.28s - 818.24s
But, um,
Speaker 2819.18s - 838.56s
after last year, people were excited to get there, but I was, people were so excited. Like that last year they were calling points aquariums and everything this year a little tougher but still incredible weights um i think it's just a little tougher later in the year and also it has been getting ballistered oh my goodness
Speaker 1838.56s - 870.74s
the the top water action you know i thought this year compared to last year, let me say this. I thought the fish bit better on top water than they did last year. And I may not have been with the right guys. I was with Brian New on day one last year. And then I think I was with Matt Roberts and the rest of the time out last year. But and it seemed like the top water bite, even when the fish were blowing up, they wouldn't
Speaker 0870.74s - 875.62s
eat anything. You couldn't make it meet anything. And then this year, you know, they had about
Speaker 1875.62s - 886.98s
a one, I don't know, an hour and a half to two hour window where it was insane. Every morning, no matter where you went, they parked up on a point, and the top water bite was insane.
Speaker 2887.44s - 890.5s
That was, that's an impressive bite.
Speaker 1891.16s - 891.64s
Yeah.
Speaker 2891.8s - 896.58s
And the really impressive thing is how fast you have to be.
Speaker 1896.8s - 899.58s
Like, it's not, it's not, hey, they blew up.
Speaker 2900.08s - 912s
Let me cast over there. Like if your bait is not immediately the end you saw it playing and out they if you could hammer it right away you caught them but if if you were just a little off
Speaker 1912s - 959.5s
two seconds you literally and you know what i was talking to lee about how impressed i was and also um just kind of took note of the fact that i don't know what's harder skipping skipping a jig under vegetation, low hanging vegetation to the water at short distances or bomb casting into a red solo cup at 110 feet. into a red solo cup at 110 feet. Like, it's not easy for them to be as accurate as they want to be when those fish are blowing up way out there. You know what I'm saying? When they're bomb casting, because they could be, they could be 24 inches off on their cast, and it's a no-go.
Speaker 2962.6s - 982.44s
And then by the time they reel it in and try to cast again, it's over. Yeah. No, it's incredible. it's incredible to watch um it uh you were with brandon cobb day one which was a big shocker um the way it went because you would expect him to be a big time player in that event i mean i was with brian new
Speaker 1982.44s - 985.32s
last year you know on day one and yeah but news new year, you know, on day one.
Speaker 2987.06s - 989.44s
Yeah, but news new to there. You know what I mean?
Speaker 1996.38s - 999.2s
Like he lives right there, but everybody gives new PERSON like, oh, he's, it's, he gets to sleep in his home bed, but he'll let you know that he's new to it.
Speaker 2999.4s - 1001.72s
I think he expected to do a lot better this year.
Speaker 01001.84s - 1007.08s
I mean, he said that. He said last year, I just recently become a resident of the area.
Speaker 21007.7s - 1012.1s
But Cobb PERSON plays always on those blue back lakes, it seems.
Speaker 11013.34s - 1052.12s
Yeah, he, uh, I don't know, man. You know, I think sometimes you're either on two to four pound fish or three and a half to five and six pound fish with an occasional six or seven mixed in there. And, you know, like, like Lee was saying a couple times during the three days I was with him, you know, he's like he's on two and a half pounders and he's not upgrading because everything's like 2.79 to 2.74. And he's literally either he's culling ounces or he's wasting his time weighing fish that are ounces apart. They look like cookie covers.
Speaker 31052.78s - 1056.84s
And it's like you might as well just throw them back because you're not really gaining any ground.
Speaker 11057.64s - 1072.12s
And I think, but you know, the mentality would be, well, they're catching fish and they're biting. They're on a positive reaction right now. So it's hard for them to pack up and leave thinking, well, they're catching fish and they're biting. They're on a positive reaction right now. So it's hard for them to pack up and leave thinking, well, there's probably some four and five pounders in there too.
Speaker 31072.34s - 1074.3s
I need to upgrade two of these fish.
Speaker 11074.3s - 1106.78s
And then they end up, you know, for the next two hours catching two and a half to two and three quarter pound bass. And they don't really upgrade, you know? So it's a really tricky lake and if you it's all about decisions and if something's not happening the way you want it to on one point you could go to the next point and literally hit the lottery or you could go to the next point and spend 20 minutes therego to the next point and end up running around until you're out of gas. Yeah.
Speaker 31106.94s - 1107.36s
I mean,
Speaker 11107.68s - 1110.94s
there's a lot of running around on that lake if it's not happening, you know?
Speaker 21111.5s - 1132.96s
Well, I mean, you look at areas. It's not, most tournaments go down to the spot. Now it's not. Like, in that, in that, I mean, there were some key spots, obviously. But there was people who didn't make the top 50 that were fishing the exact samespot with people that made the top 10. It was just, it's when you hit it. It's all about timing.
Speaker 11133.6s - 1206.32s
I mean, I was with, you know, with Brandon Cobb on day one. And then surprisingly not where Lee PERSON started, but we went back when he left his spot. We went to a couple of other areas that Brandon Cobb PERSON was on on day one. You know, and Lee PERSON caught bigger fish and Brandon PERSON didn't.Who knows? Who knows why or what? But I think sometimes, you know, one of the unique things that Lee Livesey PERSON was doing was instead ofcasting to the point, he would park super shallow and fish it, you know, fish it like fishing upstairs. He was he was literally fishing up slope. And, you know, I think that had a lot to do with what was going on. And his boat wasn't blocking the herring from coming up out of deep water onto those uh onto those um spawning uh shoals he was literally parked on top and waiting for those things to blow up and it just seemed like it was a better a better strategy pulled down in in uh shallow water so may he fished that whole,
Speaker 21206.66s - 1208.94s
he fished there every day basically.
Speaker 11208.94s - 1252.12s
Every day. It was one spot bloom. Yep. I mean, for at least till 11.30 or 12 every morning, I think he shared it with Derek Hudnell on day one a little bit. And then Derek Hudnell PERSON started there. And I'll tell you what else is key on that lake too is especially day one and I think you'll agree with this drawing a drawing a top 40 boat number going out on day one is prettyfreaking key because with 102 boats out there if you're like Brandon Cobb drew boat number 96 going out on day one. So we were essentially the last little.
Speaker 21252.12s - 1252.78s
Bad rotation.
Speaker 31253.28s - 1254.32s
Bad rotation.
Speaker 11254.74s - 1315.62s
Bad. So he went to, instead of going to his A and B spots knowing there were going to be one, two or three boats on those spots, he ends up going to his C and D spots. And there were people on those spots. So He ends up going to his C and D spots and there were people on those spots. So he ends up going to an F spot, if you will. You know, his first location knowing he's going to catch 10 or 12 pounds there just to get a limit in the boat and then start trying to fit into his regular rotation somewhere. And it's just so difficult on that lake when you don't get a good boat draw and then vice versa on day two if you're boat number four going out on day one you're going to be boat number 98 going out on day two and all of a sudden you find yourself in the same sort of hole and i kept thinking about the old cliche that we talk about, you can't win a tournament on day one,but you can lose a tournament on day one. You've heard that. Yeah. What do you think about it?
Speaker 21317.46s - 1322.68s
No, no, I think that's key. I mean, I think it's pretty well-known. I mean, it's like having,
Speaker 11322.82s - 1326.58s
it's as key as having a good number in a Florida
Speaker 21326.58s - 1359.26s
site fishing tournament. I mean, you, but it also to me shows why what Lee did and Patrick PERSON spent a lot of time at one point too. I mean, it, it's, it just shows to me, you know, the event, it's weird because it's changed from a run and gun body water to like, you can also set stakes and be like, this is my area. Like I'm sure at some point, people stop pulling in. I mean, that you kind of own it.You've been there the whole time. Yeah.
Speaker 11359.46s - 1404.34s
So one of Lee's sort of after mid, you know, late mid morning spots closer to the ramp on day two, Brandon Lester PERSON was parked on the spot he wanted to get to, right? And so Lee would go to a secondary point or a point across the channel and fish that. And then he'd run by the other point to see if Brandon Lester was still there and and he still pulled down in the same spot so then he'd go to a different secondary point or a different point moving from point to point in the same region constantly spot checking to see if brandon lester was there and you know and that starts playing with their heads thinking okay i'm just burning time
Speaker 31404.34s - 1406.14s
right now knowing i'm not going to
Speaker 11406.14s - 1453.96s
upgrade on these other points, but I don't want to leave because this is all I've got, and I really want to get on that point. And so then, you know, I think their relationship start to play a role. Well, he's going to stay on that point, obviously, for the rest of the day. So should I move in on him or should I just stay away from him? And one of the, you know, courteous things that Lee PERSON had said was, he said, I'm not going to go in on, move in on Brandon Lester PERSON because he came there on day one and I was already sitting there and he chose not to move in on me.So I'm going to give him the same amount of respect, you know, in reciprocation. So there's a lot of that that goes on. And other times are like, well, I don't really care who's there. I'm going in there.
Speaker 21453.96s - 1461.66s
Wait, wait, wait, before you start that, I just wanted to point out that this is a bass fishing podcast and something nice happened between two anglers.
Speaker 11462.02s - 1477.12s
Okay, now go ruin it with what you were saying. The antithesis of drama. And then, you know, there's other times where so maybe it's a friend like Kyle Patrick on that same point.
Speaker 21477.12s - 1482.52s
And, you know, and then they, and then they, you know, they don't mind moving in on them.
Speaker 11483.36s - 1494.34s
And in fact, there was that one incident and a moment when Lee PERSON moved in on Kyle Patrick on the same exact point that Brandon Lester PERSON was sitting on.
Speaker 21494.88s - 1512.12s
Oh, you see it? You see how the narrative sounds so different. Like everybody I've talked to thought that Kyle moved in on Lee PERSON just because Lee, you know, hadn't been moving much. So it just seemed that way. But, but Lee PERSON actually moved in on Lee just because Lee hadn't been moving much so it just seemed that way but Lee PERSON actually moved in on Kylebut they were fishing fine together right like
Speaker 11512.12s - 1515.18s
they were getting along oh yeah oh absolutely
Speaker 21515.18s - 1518.16s
side like could have touched the other boat
Speaker 11518.16s - 1521.3s
and was casting the other way towards into the shallow water
Speaker 21521.3s - 1525.32s
which is where the that school of fish were on day one.
Speaker 11525.68s - 1529.14s
And he didn't know about day two because he couldn't get in there because Brandon Lesser PERSON was
Speaker 21529.14s - 1529.46s
fishing.
Speaker 11529.96s - 1534.9s
But, you know, as the pressure built on the fish, the boat started moving out on that point
Speaker 21534.9s - 1537.6s
because they pushed the fish out into deeper water.
Speaker 31538.2s - 1544.02s
And so he pulls into shallow and starts casting the other way, striking up like casual
Speaker 01544.02s - 1544.82s
conversation.
Speaker 11546.1s - 1552.7s
Hey, man, how's it going? And's like dude pull up here man just pull down right beside I mean right beside me go
Speaker 21552.7s - 1557.98s
right beside right beside hardly enough space in between the boats for somebody to fall in yeah exactly
Speaker 11559.82s - 1586.54s
in fact uh you know Lee PERSON's casting in front of his boat. Kyle is waiting on, at least casting a Carolina ORG rig, okay, with a crawler on it. Kyle Patrick PERSON is waiting with a fluke bait for the blowups to happen. And because, you know, if you're casting a Carolina ORG rig, as soon as you send it on a bomb cast, it's halfway there and the fish start blowing up.
Speaker 21586.54s - 1586.78s
Yeah.
Speaker 11587.2s - 1652.16s
And you can't like, you can't, you either got to choose one or the other, right? And so Kyle PERSON's like waiting on the fish and there's nothing blowing up. And Lee says to Kyle PERSON, he goes, because he had his live scope on, he goes, hey man, will you point your live scope out in front of my boat and see if there's any fish out there? So he does. He goes, no, they're out in front of my boat, but you got to cast an angle. So Lee casts across the bow of Kyle Patrick's PERSON boat and catches a two and three quarter inch or two and three quarter pound bass which Kyle needed but Lee PERSON didn't so Lee turns it loose on the other side of the boat and he goes sorry man I'd give it to you but I caught that fish so yeah that was a very casual friendly encounter and at one point they're going back and forth, you know, cutting up, cutting each other down or whatever. And I'm like noticing the southern term just so, you know, cutting up.
Speaker 21652.2s - 1652.64s
Cutting that.
Speaker 11652.76s - 1657.54s
Like you don't ever hear that. That's a southern term. We'd be cutting up. No. Turpin PERSON.
Speaker 21657.9s - 1658.5s
That's what you hear.
Speaker 11658.5s - 1660s
In the north, they say, we're joking around.
Speaker 21660.94s - 1663.62s
That did not sound northern at all. That did not.
Speaker 11663.62s - 1667.52s
That's my best. Okay, you say it then. And whatever he sounded like, we did not sound northern at all that did not that's my best okay you say it then and whatever he sounded
Speaker 21667.52s - 1676.02s
like we did not mean to offend we just chirping chirping you're a chirper oh chirping chirping yeah um you know
Speaker 11676.02s - 1684.66s
chirp chirp like a bird anyways continue your story yeah so kyle Kyle PERSON i don't know why i had a two
Speaker 21684.66s - 1690.46s
shot going with Kyle and lee in the frame because they're both having conversation back and forth.
Speaker 11690.62s - 1693.96s
And then Lee PERSON starts getting more serious and casting out to his left.
Speaker 21693.96s - 1699.58s
So I pointed my camera that way, but I could see Kyle PERSON moving up on the bow of his boat.
Speaker 31699.74s - 1702.12s
And he puts his foot, he's barefoot.
Speaker 21702.46s - 1704.78s
He puts his foot up on the troll motor bracket.
Speaker 31705.5s - 1708.32s
And I guess he was just resting his foot there.
Speaker 11708.32s - 1709.62s
And it slips.
Speaker 21709.88s - 1713s
And his foot goes down on the cable, the troll motor cable.
Speaker 11714.02s - 1717.94s
And literally goes, yeah, punk right in the water.
Speaker 21718.1s - 1723.18s
And the first thing Lee PERSON did was before he even saw it, he knew he fell in the water.
Speaker 11723.24s - 1726.98s
And he goes, yes, yes. It was the best.
Speaker 21727.84s - 1759.08s
It was the greatest reaction ever. And I've watched that clip. I don't know about the cable or whatever. To me, it looks like there's no reason for him to fall in. Like he's just like I'm having a good day and I'm just going to step where there's no boat. And they, but I will give him credit.I mean, he impressive return. Like he got back in the boat very quick, very agile. The winner of the day, though, was Davy Height PERSON. Davy Height had the greatest line ever. We relived it on live,
Speaker 11759.16s - 1767.74s
because if you fall in the water on live, it's going to be around forever. That's going slow-mo yeah we're going to relive it
Speaker 21767.74s - 1773.62s
forever and we were reliving it and then davy height said he is literally a hole jumper
Speaker 11773.62s - 1788.54s
i thought zona coined it well too when he stepped on that cable and zona goes he's hanging on that cable like a fruit bat. I didn't hear that.
Speaker 21788.82s - 1789.82s
That's crazy.
Speaker 11792.4s - 1795.58s
Yeah, that was a highlight of the day. Yeah.
Speaker 21795.58s - 1797.06s
And Kyle PERSON did.
Speaker 11797.16s - 1811.04s
He hit his chest when he tried to get back in the boat. And I think he was like he bent over and people, we thought he was laughing. But he was that he actually kind of did bruises his torso upper torso so hope you're feeling better Kyle
Speaker 21811.04s - 1815.02s
that was pretty funny I feel like he's that kind of person though like I feel like he's the
Speaker 11815.02s - 1886.62s
gana spas that hurts himself a lot and it's in weird times and you just kind of laugh it off and act like you're not hurt but then when you get in your truck, you're like, ah. You know what else is funny about that moment? I think it was like five minutes before Kyle PERSON fell in the water. I'm hearing something in the woods on that point. And I turned around and I looked and there's like a guy sneaking around in the bushes back there. And I'm thinking, well, that's pretty weird. And then this lady steps out of the bushes. And then a kid steps out of the bushes back there. And I'm thinking, well, that's pretty weird. And then this lady steps out of the bushes. And then a kid steps out of the bushes and another kid steps out. And it looked kind of odd, really. And I go, I think that's Steve Kennedy PERSON. And it turned out to be Steve Kennedy PERSON. Oh, the Kennedys PERSON.It was the whole Kennedy PERSON clan. They were geo. What do he Kennedy PERSON clan. They were geo. What do he call it? They were geo learning about nature. They were like homeschooling their kids. And geo, I think they called it geo, geo something.I can't remember. But Julia PERSON sent me a text because I was kind of making fun of them. But that was a comical scene there at that point on day.
Speaker 21886.62s - 1887.66s
They're an awesome family.
Speaker 11888.06s - 1889.4s
They're an awesome family. Oh, yeah.
Speaker 31889.56s - 1897.98s
Geo learn. And I'm scared of S.J. though. His son fears me because he's always putting stuff like literally put stuff on my pockets. Frogs, turtles.
Speaker 21898.9s - 1900.56s
Always like on what?
Speaker 11901.04s - 1901.82s
He puts it on what?
Speaker 21901.82s - 1909.48s
It's like I'll just be standing there talking to someone and he'll. And then I'll reach to my pocket and be like, ah, the turtle.
Speaker 11909.48s - 1910.22s
There's a copperhead.
Speaker 21910.38s - 1912.3s
Frog. There's a copperhead.
Speaker 11912.32s - 1913.22s
There's a baby alligator.
Speaker 21914.14s - 1916.14s
Why is everything spinning?
Speaker 11917.52s - 1918.42s
Yeah, right.
Speaker 21918.72s - 1920s
Don't lick the frog.
Speaker 11921.46s - 1922s
No, they are.
Speaker 21922s - 1923s
They are an awesome thing.
Speaker 11923s - 1926.06s
I think if you get bit by a snake, you probably feel stoned for a little while don't you
Speaker 21926.06s - 1928.72s
Or does it go straight from a bite to
Speaker 11928.72s - 1932.8s
Oh I think I think that's what happens
Speaker 21932.8s - 1933.96s
I think the pain
Speaker 11933.96s - 1937.2s
Yeah I don't want to get bit by poisonous snake
Speaker 21937.2s - 1940.06s
They are
Speaker 11940.06s - 1941.54s
But they are an awesome family
Speaker 21941.54s - 1943.36s
They're always doing something adventurous
Speaker 11943.36s - 1945.1s
So Yeah yeah they are They're great. They're always doing something adventurous. Yeah.
Speaker 21945.8s - 1961.82s
Yeah, they are. They're a great family, great people. So you had people falling in the water. You had people hiking through the jungle to come across you. Sounded bat. What else happened?
Speaker 11964.02s - 1970.04s
I'm going to ruin this with my immaturity. I don't know, man. We just spent, you know, we spent a lot of time fishing.
Speaker 21972.78s - 1973.08s
We saw the Northern Lights LOC.
Speaker 11973.76s - 1977.3s
I did not. I missed it. Was it two nights in a row or just one night?
Speaker 21978.82s - 2050.76s
Well, there's a story about that. And maybe through the magic of, well, my wife, maybe we'll put some most northern lights pictures on the screen right now. Um, they were, I mean, we were literally sitting around and I had heard, you know what I mean? My, my kids, my, especially my daughter's all about that stuff. Sarah PERSON's kind of about that. So we knew that was going to happen. But you think you're in South Carolina GPE. There's no way I'm going to see it. So we're sitting around. And then I see on Instagram a picture like of somebody, it was Eric Lopez PERSON saw them. And I'm like, Davey, the Northern Lights are happening here in South Carolina GPE. We need to go outside. So then we went out to the deck and it was just me and him like a couple of weirdos staring at the sky. We took about 48 selfies because I kept telling Davey PERSON it'll never turn out. Like he's like, we need a selfie together with this. And I'm like, you're never going to be able to have Austin focused in them in the Northern Lights LOC. So we've got a lot of blurrypictures together. But we do have some cool pictures. And it was really, I mean, I've seen it here. I've seen it in the Arctic LOC where it's. Yeah.
Speaker 32051.12s - 2051.88s
Outerworldly.
Speaker 12051.98s - 2054.06s
Like it looks like a freaking Beatles PERSON video.
Speaker 22054.22s - 2056.48s
Like it's like a set like Lucy PERSON and this guy.
Speaker 12056.48s - 2058.12s
It's like being inside of a lava lamp.
Speaker 32058.3s - 2058.52s
Yeah.
Speaker 12059.44s - 2059.8s
Exactly.
Speaker 22061.16s - 2104.1s
But it was really cool. We stayed away too late like a couple of weirdos. And it was one of those We stayed out way too late, like a couple of weirdos. And it was one of those moments in my life where I'm like, I'm a weirdo in the middle of the night laying on a dock with Davy Height PERSON,the guy who won the Bassmaster Classic with Bacon Rind. I mean, 12 year old version of me is like, yes. But here's the funny part. So we come, you know, in the morning we show up and we'relike look at all these pictures and not and all excited about it and you know we hang with a lot of photographers so photographers are like oh well i want to shoot it and one of those photographers was and we came up with these great ideas i'm like andy what you got to do is you got to get the trophy and you got to get a shot of the northern lights and the trophy and we're like that'd
Speaker 02104.1s - 2109.06s
be great and then i went back to the cabin and I'm sitting there and Davy's boat is parked.
Speaker 32109.4s - 2114.24s
And I'm like, Davey, leave your boat in tonight because it'll be a shot of the Yamaha and the Phoenix PRODUCT and this.
Speaker 02116.62s - 2118.42s
So Andy PERSON stayed, Andy stayed.
Speaker 22118.58s - 2126.62s
We were standing in a little two bedroom cabin. It was wonderful, but it was just a small cabin. One bathroom in between it, which I find awkward at times, but it was just a small cabin one bathroom in between it which
Speaker 32126.62s - 2132.88s
i find awkward at times but it was fine with davy PERSON um you had to go like through our bedrooms to
Speaker 22132.88s - 2137.52s
get to the bathroom that's what made it awkward you know what i mean like if you had anyone over
Speaker 32137.52s - 2142.56s
they're just all walking through your bedroom um so andy stayed on the couch
Speaker 02144s - 2146.2s
that night he said, I'm staying.
Speaker 32146.66s - 2149.68s
He woke at 1 o'clock, 2 o'clock, and 3 o'clock.
Speaker 02150.24s - 2153.58s
And the Northern Lights, it was the day the lights died.
Speaker 22153.78s - 2155.56s
There was nothing. So he got nothing.
Speaker 12155.56s - 2156.24s
Oh, man.
Speaker 22156.38s - 2158.84s
But it happened the next night that he didn't.
Speaker 12159.86s - 2161.44s
So I just think the Northern Lights did.
Speaker 22162s - 2163.96s
Northern Lights dislike Andy PERSON.
Speaker 12164.56s - 2169.12s
Andy PERSON Crawford. I mean, they were, they were like, people were, I saw pictures posted of the Northern Lights dislike Andy. I mean, they were, they were like people were, I saw pictures posted of the Northern
Speaker 22169.12s - 2172.54s
lights there like all the way down in Florida GPE.
Speaker 12172.84s - 2177s
As brilliant as they were all the way up the coast.
Speaker 32177.56s - 2177.92s
What was that?
Speaker 12177.98s - 2180.86s
What caused that sunflares and electromagnetic?
Speaker 22182.2s - 2188.54s
Articulate and there's, I don't I know I don't know how to explain it and
Speaker 12188.54s - 2195.42s
sound somewhat intelligent so here's a lesson class go Google what causes the northern lights
Speaker 22195.42s - 2199.38s
and just by saying that there will be the smart people in the comments well you idiot
Speaker 12199.38s - 2208.8s
do you not understand that this is how this works yeah I i do know how it but i'm nobody wants to
Speaker 22208.8s - 2215s
explain yeah i'm just not smart enough i'm tired i'm jet lagged one time i saw them in saskatch one PRODUCT and
Speaker 12215s - 2221.04s
they were all white like all yeah a lot of times they're white like really you don't get the color
Speaker 22221.04s - 2229.06s
a lot of times i thought it was a fog at first, but then it was moving. And I was like, dude, these are like Aurora Borealis and white.
Speaker 12230.64s - 2231.34s
They were.
Speaker 22231.84s - 2232.52s
They were.
Speaker 12233.44s - 2234.48s
So that was cool.
Speaker 22234.92s - 2235.14s
Yeah.
Speaker 12235.56s - 2238.52s
Oh, you got a last cast story.
Speaker 22238.62s - 2240.46s
You told me you were going to tell about Lee Livesee PERSON.
Speaker 12240.68s - 2241.22s
Yeah.
Speaker 22241.48s - 2242.38s
I've not told me that.
Speaker 12242.68s - 2243.6s
On day four.
Speaker 22244.52s - 2247.84s
And we literally pulled, on day, on day four. And we literally
Speaker 12247.84s - 2248.88s
pulled,
Speaker 22249.04s - 2249.3s
we were,
Speaker 12249.42s - 2370.06s
we left his last spot. He said, man, it's time to go. So we're running back from his last spot.Oh, let's see, where was it? It was across the lake. And, oh,I know it was where Mark Fraser PERSON had been fishing and Lee Livesey PERSON, um, since no one was there on day four, he went in there and upgraded all of his fish had you know didn't have a huge bag but he ends up with 19 pounds and then with like 10 minutes left we're run across the lake we come into that narrow cut before you get to the main point you come around to theramp and he had pulled up there on day two and day three he's like man this little point looks interesting to me he's no one he's not seen anyone fishing on it and it's kind of a secondary point and it doesn't look like all the other points that people are fishing but he had a sneaking suspicion there were fish on it so like on, he pulls up, and as soon as he pulls up, you know, he pushes the bait fish in with his boat, and there's some blowups out on the deep end of the point, and he starts casting. And I think he caught a, he got bit, but he never caught a fish there. And he goes, dude, I know there's fish here. At some point in the tournament, this little point's going to come into play because there's no pressure on it, right? And so day three, he goes up there. There's no wind, no blowups. He's throwing a Carolina ORG rig. He's throwing a fluke around, not even a bite. And so, again, with like 10 minutes left, he leaves his spot on day four goes across the lake pulls up to this point gets on the shallow end and starts fishing it uphill from the shallow side and literally it was 257 we have to be in at 3 o'clock on day 4, 257. He's pulling down at 257. Of course, we're a minute and a half from the ramp,
Speaker 02370.36s - 2373.36s
so he's got enough time for like four or five casts.
Speaker 12374.14s - 2470.26s
And, you know, Lee PERSON, he's done to do, he does not give up. He does, he goes way out of his way, like to do something outside the box, especially on day four, when he has nothing to lose. And he always, you know, he fishes into the last second. So he's making a few casts and literally at 258 and 30 seconds. No kidding, Dave.He freaking sets the hook. He's throwing a Carolina ORG rig. And I didn't even have time to pull my camera out because I knew he wasn't going to be there very long. We were running short on time. So I'm filming this with my phone. And he catches a four-pounder at like 258 and 30 seconds. Literally like throws his rod down, just like his searching. He grabs his scale to see which tagged fish is the smallest fish. And he's got the other fish, the four-pounder in his hand. He finds the fish he's going to call. He throws it out of the boat, puts the other one in the wheel, shuts it down, pulls his belts up, locks his rods down, pulls his trolle motor up, gets in, puts his kill switch in, boom, off we go. We literally pulled up to the dock at three o'clock on the money likewow 259 59 I mean he still had a minute to go but he pulled up at the last second and that fish that four pounder he called a 274 with an almost four pounder and that fish moved him up in the final standings from seventh place to fourth place and the difference was $18,000 and $25,000.
Speaker 02470.26s - 2474.88s
So that one fish on the very last cast of the day made him $7,000.
Speaker 12475.4s - 2478.26s
So good job, Lee PERSON. Wow.
Speaker 32478.26s - 2480.42s
Every cast counts.
Speaker 02480.88s - 2482.56s
And I mean, it was so exciting.
Speaker 12483.24s - 2502.72s
And really there was no live. No one saw it. But I did send Lee the clip. So I'm sure he's going to post it the next few days. That was pretty cool. Wow. That is cool when you can pull that off. That rarely happens. It rarely. People try it at every tournament, but it rarely happens like that, you know.
Speaker 22502.76s - 2503.76s
but it rarely happens like that, you know.
Speaker 12505.22s - 2505.38s
Paul Nick PERSON is also like that.
Speaker 22508.98s - 2524.16s
I mean, I ask everybody who does the check-ins, and I'm like, who is always the last? And they're like, it's always Paul Nick, almost always. Like, can he uses the seconds? So you have, if check-in's 3 o'clock, you have until 3 and 59 seconds.
Speaker 12524.42s - 2525.82s
It has to switch over.
Speaker 22526.12s - 2542.88s
But he uses like he will use right up the end. And a lot of times he might even be casting right there. Like he's there. So he knows that he's in type thing. And they're like, are you in? He's like, nope, still casting. And then they count him. He counts himself down, I guess, or whatever.
Speaker 12543.12s - 2546.72s
But he did that on Champlain FAC and I pay the price for it.
Speaker 22547.02s - 2551s
I still, he still owes me a chiropractor visit. Well, what happened?
Speaker 12551.24s - 2553.88s
Because we can't, remember he won he won at Champlain FAC?
Speaker 22553.88s - 2554.28s
Uh-huh.
Speaker 12554.44s - 2585.7s
He was, he literally pushed it and he had like 24 pounds or whatever it was. And he was still casting up to the very last second. And then we had three and four footers coming across the big lake to the to the, to casting up to the very last second. And then we had three and four footers coming across the big lake to the dock at Champlain FAC. And he did not let off the throttle. And that's one of the most brutal boat rides I've ever been on in terms of just bouncing around in the boat and coming back, having to lint back to the camera trailer.
Speaker 22586.04s - 2589.68s
Wow. Yeah. Everybody thinks Brandon PERSON is a nice guy.
Speaker 12590.22s - 2590.32s
Not that day.
Speaker 22592.42s - 2593.06s
He'd the piss out of poor Jake PERSON.
Speaker 12595.86s - 2598.96s
No commission on the wind, nothing, man. No ice cream, nothing.
Speaker 22600.1s - 2604.7s
No, no. He didn't get ice cream again this week either. Did he? He didn't make the cut.
Speaker 12606.06s - 2608.04s
Did he know outside of the cap? I don't think so. Yeah. I don't think he did.
Speaker 22608.68s - 2614.96s
Yeah. He's just outside of the classic cut. Dude, we're past the halfway point of the season now.
Speaker 12615.2s - 2617.22s
It was day two was the halfway point of season.
Speaker 02617.22s - 2624.06s
And it is this season is, and I know people are going to say the rookies.
Speaker 22624.34s - 2626.48s
The rookies are nine people. They're nine.
Speaker 12626.8s - 2628.78s
10, if you include Tim Duby PERSON.
Speaker 22629.14s - 2631.08s
10% of the field.
Speaker 12631.88s - 2632.1s
Yeah.
Speaker 22632.6s - 2663.48s
So it's, but if you look at the, it is the most amount of mega powers that are out, like I'm talking like way down in the standings and and i'm not i'm not i'm smarter than you know probably be super entertaining for the podcast it would get more people to watch it if i would go here and i would start reading this list and i would sayand then i would say but i'm not going to do that because we're not going to go there no no because
Speaker 12663.48s - 2665.1s
you know what i i don't want i mean that's a shitty spot No, no, because you know what? I don't want.
Speaker 22668.36s - 2690.56s
I mean, that's a shitty spot to be in as a, you know what I mean? They don't want to be there. We don't want them to be there. No, no. But I'm not going to pile on. You know what I mean? What I mean is they're more sensitive this time. And I'm scared of the next four events because if you think craziness happened this season it just seems that I mean it's not just fishing the world is more increasingly
Speaker 02690.56s - 2699.14s
more controversial negative looking for the unpositive stuff in everything but it
Speaker 22699.14s - 2706.5s
even when everyone's happy they get ornery in the last four events so there will be some I mean it's coming down I mean there will be some, I mean, it's coming down.
Speaker 12706.7s - 2712.12s
I mean, there are people that have to, I mean, who was it?
Speaker 22712.32s - 2713.04s
Maybe it was caught.
Speaker 12713.04s - 2713.42s
Stop it.
Speaker 22713.42s - 2715.56s
Don't even say a name. Okay.
Speaker 12715.92s - 2716.16s
Okay.
Speaker 22716.28s - 2716.48s
Fine.
Speaker 12716.58s - 2721.02s
Say it. Whatever. He's a day. Average. Average top 30 for the rest of the events.
Speaker 22721.02s - 2724.48s
Who's that, Jake PERSON? The classic. I think Brandon Cobb PERSON said that to me.
Speaker 12725.62s - 2726s
Is that right? Yeah, but that's not that bad. I mean, he's. No, no, no the classic. I think Brandon Cobb PERSON said that to me. Is that right?
Speaker 22727.36s - 2727.52s
Yeah, but that's not that bad.
Speaker 12728.1s - 2729.38s
I mean, he's... No, no, no, no. I'm just saying...
Speaker 22729.38s - 2731.12s
He's freaking Brandon Cobb PERSON.
Speaker 12731.12s - 2738.8s
This point in the season, that's when people really start looking at those AOI stand. He's going, okay, man, they start doing the math,
Speaker 22739.18s - 2742.52s
you know, because it's going to come down to the wire for a lot of people.
Speaker 12743.8s - 2745.84s
What's your take on the math?
Speaker 22745.84s - 2776.24s
Would you, if you were an angler, that's, well, you are, but if you were an elite series angler and, which I'm not, which you're not, but you hang around with a bunch of them. Clearly. Would you pay attention to the numbers?Like there's some that work them out. There are some that, like Paul Nick, which he says he doesn't even look at it zona thinks he's a liar um i i think he's being honest i think he finds out sometimes but i honestly don't think he looks at it because
Speaker 12776.24s - 2858.32s
it doesn't matter and he's that kind of locked in dude yeah he's got that type of mentality for sure like he because i think he's the kind of guy that that knows how to, how to stay away from personal inner pressure. And that's how he fishes because he probably knows deep down inside he doesn't do well under his own pressure. Because he, you know, under under his own pressure because he you know he's his own worst critic and that that allows him to you know make decisions that he wouldn't normally make so i think he does have that kind of mentality i if you answering yourquestion i probably would be that guy that does the math because i like to know where i stand to know where i need to be. But I also think, you know, I've asked this to a lot of anglers on different occasions about different strategies that they have. And, you know, they, they don't, some guys, some guys don't do the math. Let's say they have to catch such and such pounds on a daily basis to stay in the top 10 or whatever it is after day one. They don't do the math because they think that limits them mentally to that weight per day.
Speaker 22858.44s - 2862.92s
Yeah, if you're aiming for a top 50, you'll probably finish 55th. Exactly.
Speaker 12863.22s - 2865.8s
Or 52nd or whatever. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 22866.32s - 2876.58s
I think it would be hard to do. I have no doubt that Paul Nick PERSON can do it. I mean, he used to cut like 12 pounds a week or something when he was a wrestler. You know what I mean?
Speaker 32876.66s - 2886.08s
Just think of the, I mean, for a little dude like that to cut a bunch of weight like that every week. That requires an incredible amount of not just physical but mental
Speaker 22886.08s - 2894.4s
focus um yeah i did that in boxing when i was young same deal of course she did my son does it now
Speaker 12894.4s - 2901.94s
how many pounds did you have to i mean even even under the circumstances where you don't have to cut
Speaker 22901.94s - 2905.46s
10 pounds you still have to if you want to stay a certain
Speaker 12905.46s - 2911.28s
weight, then you have to maintain that weight. So essentially, you're cutting pounds every day
Speaker 22911.28s - 2918.72s
by not gaining any weight. Gotcha. Gotcha. In the wrestling gig, they try to, I think that's, you know,
Speaker 12918.76s - 2923.02s
they go to a lower, lower weight class. You know what I mean? Same thing you see in the UFC ORG.
Speaker 22923.78s - 2931.18s
And there's a lot of people that say that they shouldn't do that because they think it causes more concussions because you're
Speaker 12931.18s - 2938.18s
sucking all the moisture out of your body, including your brain and it becomes more susceptible.
Speaker 22938.68s - 2945.74s
But back to angling, I think if you can avoid it, it's the smartest thing to do.
Speaker 12945.74s - 2949.28s
Because, dude, you, none of it matters.
Speaker 22949.44s - 2953.02s
I mean, your job every single day is to catch the five biggest bass in front of you.
Speaker 12953.16s - 2958.36s
Now, it doesn't matter whether the day one, you caught 20 pounds or you caught two pounds.
Speaker 22958.54s - 2963.28s
Like, you can't, it's not a sport where you can lay off.
Speaker 12963.48s - 2964.34s
And you know what I mean?
Speaker 22964.6s - 2965s
Exactly. You have, and any time in history that I where you can lay off. And you know what I mean? Exactly.
Speaker 32965.96s - 2966.6s
You have,
Speaker 22966.72s - 2969.56s
and any time in history that I've seen somebody lay off,
Speaker 32969.56s - 2969.88s
I mean,
Speaker 22969.96s - 3055.74s
especially the leaders. Like you look at, and I've said it a bunch of times before, so I'll say it again. And I don't see him that much, but I mean,I'm sure he would admit it. Edwin Evers was leading for Angler of the year. And there was two events left. We were in Waddington, New York, and then we were on Lake St. Clair LOC. Edwin Ivers had, him and Kevin PERSON were going down. It was a battle between the two of them. And Kevin got, Kevin, it was supposed to be, Edwin PERSON was supposed to have, like, it was supposed to be super tight. Oh, here's what happened. Kevin and him were both in the top 10, going into day three. Kevin had a horrible day three. So it looked like we were going to Lake St. Clair and Edwin PERSON was going to be, they were going to be separated with less than 15 points. Kevin had a horrible day and like bombed, like went way down. And all of a sudden,Edwin PERSON goes into the final event. He is 40-point lead. And so here's what happens when you start paying attention to those numbers. Every single time that we'd ever been to St. Clair, Edwin PERSON, Brandon, Erie GPE. Edwin had won an Erie out of Buffalo GPE. I mean, that was always what he did.But with that 40-point lead, he stayed close. And he stayed, and he admitted that he
Speaker 03055.74s - 3065.72s
fished very reserved. He tried to do the safe thing. And me and Overstreet PERSON recovered him, I remember, and it just, you saw the snowball starting to unravel.
Speaker 23073.42s - 3095.56s
And Aaron Martins ended up winning that angler of the year, which was amazing. But that's what happens when you're too focused on the points. And I'm not pointing a finger. I'm just like, from my experience, the amount of times I've seen it when you just are focused on those points. Because if Kevin catches him on day three, and I've asked Edwin PERSON this, I'm like, if Kevin catches him on day three and you leave here within 15 points, do you ever think of fishing lake St. Clair? And he's like, no. Not even a thought.
Speaker 13096.02s - 3096.26s
It's like.
Speaker 23096.26s - 3101.52s
So a big lead and balancing points can do that to you. I think,
Speaker 13101.64s - 3120.52s
you know, the analogy that reminds me, that it reminds me of is in football, like with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter and you've got a, you know, a 14 or 17 point lead and you start running the ball and getting away from what got you that lead in the first place,
Speaker 23120.62s - 3124.3s
you know, they start letting the air out of the ball and all of a sudden it's three and out.
Speaker 13124.64s - 3158.14s
The other team scores, you know, no, don't panic. We still have a 10 point lead. There's only four minutes left in the game. They get a three and out. The other team scores a field goal. So they're still up by a touchdown. And all of a sudden, they try to pass and the guy picks six on them and scores and wins the game or, you know, something like that. It's just playing just, I mean, Lee PERSON, that's funny that you bring that up because Lee went back to the same point that got him to day four, top 10, three days in a row.
Speaker 33158.14s - 3172.24s
He went back there and he caught, as I recall, he caught his five fish, but they were all, you know, I think he had 14 pounds, 13 or 14 pounds when he left.
Speaker 13172.44s - 3225.26s
And it was a lot slower. Like it was dying, it was a dying bite. And, you know, he talked about, he talked about when he went to the second point where he actually upgraded. I think all of his fish, or at least four of them, ended up with 19 pounds or 18 until he caught that four-pounder. You know, he kept looking back going, man, I wish I would have thought about coming here to start the day. As soon as we pulled up, they were blowing up all over the point. There were hundreds of fish, you know, underwater there. And he kept telling himself, man, I should have started here. But I think, you know, instead of making a different kind of decision, which didn't really backfire on him because Patrick caught 26 pounds anyway.
Speaker 33227.06s - 3232.58s
There wasn't anything he could do about it. But in his own head, he thought, you know, I'm not going to, I'm not going to let the error.
Speaker 13232.72s - 3297.22s
I'm not going to, I'm not going to do anything different because this is what got me here. So he stuck to his game plan. And it kind of reminded me of that whole concept where he didn't want to make a new decision and do something different when he had a pattern going that, you know, that made him, made him some money and gained some A-O-I points. And, I mean, even Lee was, he had, I think he started out at Toledo Bend and Lake Fork FAC.He didn't really do that well, as I recall, right? And then he had to play catch up. He was way down in that AOI standings after the first two tournaments. And now he picked it back up. Like, I remember him saying, dude, I got to do something. We're only two events into the season, but I got to do something because I don't want toplay catch up in the end. And now all of a sudden he's had three good tournaments in a row. And he's sitting in the top 20 AOI. So he's feeling pretty comfortable. And you can tell just by his daily attitude that he feels more comfortable, you know, than he did after his second tournament this year. You know what I mean?
Speaker 23298.08s - 3308.28s
This Alabama GPE swing going to be big for everybody. And like, I'm just looking at the point. Trey McKinney's still leading Jordan Lee in second place.
Speaker 13308.92s - 3310.34s
I haven't anyone talking about that.
Speaker 23310.44s - 3314.02s
How come no one's talking about Jordan Lee PERSON? We've talked about him a lot.
Speaker 13314.22s - 3314.78s
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 03314.94s - 3322.38s
I mean, I think Jordan Lee PERSON wants nobody to talk about Jordan Lee. I think Jordan Lee PERSON is a pit viper right now.
Speaker 23322.52s - 3340s
And he is very like the next 10 years for Jordan lee i mean not like the first 10 years haven't been incredible but i'm saying watch what watch like take this date in your head in 10 years from now look what that dude accomplishes um but i think he's real smart like i think
Speaker 13340s - 3345.72s
he's just been silently i mean every time i bring it, he's like, there's no need to talk about it.
Speaker 03345.76s - 3353.94s
Like he just wants to be, but he's 30 points back on Trey McKinney PERSON right now. He's got 4.48. Trey McKinney's got 478.
Speaker 23354.62s - 3359.74s
So, but we go into Alabama GPE. And that dude's going to catch him.
Speaker 13360.28s - 3363.6s
And clearly, it looks like Trey PERSON catches him everywhere we go.
Speaker 23363.72s - 3373.38s
So I'm sure he'll be a player there. But it's going to be an exciting, you know, angler of the year race. And then you look in third, Chris Johnson, and fourth, Corey Johnson PERSON,
Speaker 33373.72s - 3375.82s
Cody Huff, Justin Hamner PERSON,
Speaker 23375.96s - 3378.48s
Jacob Fouts PERSON. What a story that is.
Speaker 33378.62s - 3381.34s
J.T. Tompkins PERSON, Cal Patrick, Wesley Gore PERSON.
Speaker 23382.46s - 3390.66s
And then just outside of the top 10, you got Patrick Walters. But so many cool stories when you think about it.
Speaker 13390.84s - 3407.8s
They really are. Jacob Fouts PERSON is one of the most, I mean, I don't know who, you know, a lot of people may not know his story. A lot of people do. But, you know, he was like, like dude he was like down and out my
Speaker 23407.8s - 3416.58s
he still is yeah but it's only one seat you know but he's fishing his way out of it like he
Speaker 13416.58s - 3424.4s
it is amazing like you know he's catching him making cuts everywhere um hopefully the sponsor
Speaker 23424.4s - 3425.56s
thing it's better for him,
Speaker 13425.6s - 3430.92s
but it is already better because of the support he got from local people and it's working for him,
Speaker 23430.98s - 3431.8s
whatever way you look at.
Speaker 13431.8s - 3435.28s
He's made the cut every tournament this year, and he's got two top tens. Is that right?
Speaker 23435.8s - 3438.06s
Yeah, he's got two top tens. I know for sure.
Speaker 13438.36s - 3442.78s
I mean, I don't know when he missed. I mean, he's in top 10 for Angular years, so he has to be.
Speaker 23444.26s - 3445.92s
I'm really happy for him.
Speaker 13446.8s - 3451.14s
You know, he was the first one to have a 22-inch screen on his boat for Lovscope PRODUCT.
Speaker 23451.34s - 3452.48s
Yeah, you say that a lot.
Speaker 13452.58s - 3457.98s
I'm still thinking you're trying to get a damn free MBC PRODUCT. I'll tell MBT, NBT ORG.
Speaker 23457.98s - 3458.54s
Oh, wow.
Speaker 13459.54s - 3464.86s
Next week, you show up with the shirt. Nancy Bob Taylor, NBT Marine ORG.
Speaker 23470.64s - 3477.14s
I need a hat. But he would but he you know he was the first one really yeah he was i just i just remember it from being with him on the st lawrence river LOC and then now it's like
Speaker 13477.14s - 3482.64s
the thing you know yeah yeah that's why i thought was funny when block it was such a big
Speaker 23482.64s - 3510.82s
supporter of him like when he came out with his video Blockett PERSON, it's like, finally somebody can tell the truth. So there's part of Blockett PERSON that's like, this is wonderful. And then there's another part of it. Are you kidding me? What are you doing? You have a television on your boat? This is BS. We were this close to being best friends. Funny Trey McKinney's from the weekend that I started talking.
Speaker 33511.38s - 3512.8s
Yeah, I mean, he was real sick.
Speaker 23513.18s - 3515.7s
So we'll all probably be real sick in a few days.
Speaker 03517.04s - 3526.32s
I hope not to. But he was really sick. And like, you know, shut down sick. That kind of sick where you're came in 25 minutes early on day one. You know, you know, shut down sick. That kind of sick where you came in 20,
Speaker 13526.42s - 3527.38s
you can't stay away.
Speaker 23527.76s - 3535.26s
You know, you're a mess. So the day that it got canceled, postponed, whatever. Post ORG canceled.
Speaker 13535.36s - 3535.98s
Post ORG canceled.
Speaker 23536.1s - 3587.76s
That's right. The day that got post canceled, I'm driving back to our cabin. There's a little country gas station there. And I just noticed that that Trey PERSON's boat and trailer are at the gas pump so i'm you know running around we got to go do a live segment whatever and like an hour and a half later i realize his trailers still there and you know i kind of made a joke about you know there'll be angler saying this 19 year old kid doesn't respect the pumps or what, you know what I mean? Like, right. Turns out, come to find out that what was actually going on is he was so sick that he had like gone and got gas or whatever. And he went back into his truck. And I don't know if he was like, you know, texting or doing whatever, but next thing he knows he wakes up for like an hour and a half later.
Speaker 13588.38s - 3589.62s
He was passed out.
Speaker 23589.62s - 3607.38s
I hope nobody wanted gas because he just drove away. Like I talked to the ladies that worked there because they were like, oh, he's our favorite. He's so kind. And I guess he stopped there every morning. And I'm like, do you realize what happened that day? And they're like, no, but he was here for quite some time.
Speaker 13608.38s - 3610.32s
He bought a lot of gas.
Speaker 23613s - 3614.32s
Yeah, he was really sick.
Speaker 13614.38s - 3618.38s
Brandon Feen PERSON was in his boat and said he was literally like.
Speaker 23618.38s - 3619.56s
You traveled home with him.
Speaker 13619.96s - 3620.78s
So you're done.
Speaker 23620.98s - 3621.78s
Well, kind of.
Speaker 13624.96s - 3626.44s
He sat in the back of the plane.
Speaker 23626.5s - 3627.32s
I sat in the front.
Speaker 13630.22s - 3635.16s
But Brandon PERSON was with him and he said he was really sick. He literally weighed in.
Speaker 23635.16s - 3636.82s
And he was with a lot of people.
Speaker 13639.28s - 3647.94s
Yes, he was. But he checked in 20 or 25 minutes early on day one he was so sick well no wonder
Speaker 23647.94s - 3654.14s
people have a hard time with him look at him he's friggin super sick comes in 25 minutes early and
Speaker 13654.14s - 3679.04s
still has 20 pounds like did you see that did you see the shot that brandon ORG captured tray was casting that caffeine shad or whatever that fluke he was throwing and he was skimming it under the surface and it's coming. It's coming. And all of a sudden out of nowhere, this five, this beautiful five pattern comes up on its side and eats and it was just epic, man.
Speaker 33679.1s - 3679.82s
It was badass.
Speaker 13680.28s - 3683.84s
Congratulations to Brandon PERSON on capturing that shot.
Speaker 23684.22s - 3686.5s
A lot of cool shots caught this weekend.
Speaker 13686.78s - 3687.94s
A lot of top water.
Speaker 23688.88s - 3698.7s
Top waters, I mean, I said it 10 times on live. It should be worth more points. I mean, it's,it's what addicted everybody to fishing. And I think,
Speaker 13698.94s - 3700.34s
weirdly enough,
Speaker 23700.7s - 3711.56s
some of this top water doesn't get its full due. Like, because it's not your classical like it's super still and you're popping a bait like there's mayhem going on and your top water and you're
Speaker 13711.56s - 3769.68s
like where's the look oh my i got one it's like striper fishing or tuna fishing out on the ocean you know and the birds you know the birds tell the story and all that stuff i mean there's so many biological indicators out there. Even when it's calm out off of those points in the open pelagic water, you see the strippers, you know, come, you see the, you see the blueback herring come up and they're popping. And then all of a sudden the stripers come in and they're slapping the water, you know yards out there and so all of a sudden it's at least where we were, Lee PERSON would be like, watch this hearing about three or four minutes. Those hairings are those stripers are pushing the herring this way and they're going to come into this point and as soon as they get here, the bats are going to blow up and sure enough, you know, two or three minutes later and there they go. It's a it's a pretty cool pattern to watch happen because there's so much going on.
Speaker 23770.38s - 3777.68s
See, that's why I have you on this show, dude. Right there, that moment proved it. You would never hear the term biological indicators.
Speaker 13778.48s - 3785.56s
That comes from my wildlife and fisheries biology degree from Colorado State University ORG. Of course it does.
Speaker 23785.66s - 3786.28s
There you go.
Speaker 13788.94s - 3791.62s
So many things we learn about you, Jake PERSON.
Speaker 23791.92s - 3796.4s
But you got to go get your kids now. So go get your kids. I think that's everything.
Speaker 13797.32s - 3800.82s
I think we covered it. Congratulations to Patrick Walters.
Speaker 23801.18s - 3801.64s
Yes.
Speaker 13801.98s - 3809.14s
Bad ass win. He freaking smashed it, dude. And he smashed it on community holes that everyone knows about.
Speaker 33809.42s - 3812.38s
And he freaking smashed it, dude.
Speaker 13812.46s - 3818.82s
He is, and I'm not going to, you know, carry this on for another 30 minutes because I know we need to go.
Speaker 33819.24s - 3828.48s
But Patrick Walters is quickly, you know, starting to show that legendary status under his name with
Speaker 13828.48s - 3831.78s
what he's doing. I'm telling you, the dude's freaking stud.
Speaker 23832.02s - 3851.06s
He's 57th in all-time earnings. He's in a three-way tie with Ike and Ellie and Steve Kennedy to have the most century belts at three. Three of them have three. And, I mean, he got close again this week, not too close. I mean, he was within seven pounds, but he did a lot better than anybody.
Speaker 03851.06s - 3857.4s
Like the tournament went exactly how most people predicted if you take Patrick Walters out
Speaker 23857.4s - 3871.08s
of the field. Like the winning weight and everything, what second place was, it was exactly what everyone thought. But he decimated um he is the biggest win margin he is the all time small most record like if you read his stats you're like
Speaker 33871.08s - 3879.78s
and dude's been here for six years not even six years this beginning of six years and he i mean
Speaker 13879.78s - 3886.38s
not to mention this n pfl wins yeah he's got three of those and he's going to try win another.
Speaker 23886.46s - 3887.2s
He's already there,
Speaker 33887.5s - 3887.74s
you know,
Speaker 13887.78s - 3889.12s
he's pre-fishing today.
Speaker 23889.32s - 3890.42s
He's got one day of pre-fish,
Speaker 13890.48s - 3892.64s
I guess, and there's a high likelihood
Speaker 23892.64s - 3898.86s
that he can go back to back win that tournament this week. Things are good for Patrick PERSON.
Speaker 13899.54s - 3907.56s
Congratulations, Patrick PERSON. Got a new baby, all that stuff, man. It's just life's good for him right now so life is very
Speaker 23907.56s - 3915.86s
good i like i really like Patrick PERSON too yeah he's a great dude he's a great dude um wonderful dude
Speaker 13915.86s - 3922.44s
wonderful tournament and um his dad's always there supporting him yeah yeah i mean it's just
Speaker 23922.44s - 3925.38s
his whole family was there this time, obviously.
Speaker 13926.62s - 3928.22s
See how weird the world is, though?
Speaker 23928.52s - 3929.28s
Listen to this,
Speaker 13929.34s - 3930.16s
and I've got to say this.
Speaker 23930.82s - 3931.38s
And, I mean,
Speaker 13931.38s - 3933.46s
I've never even talked to Patrick PERSON about this or his dad,
Speaker 23933.46s - 3945.58s
but I do know this existed from talking to other college anglers. When Patrick PERSON was in college, his dad was around a lot at tournaments. You know what I mean? His dad was,his parents are great parents. They're there.
Speaker 13945.72s - 3946.5s
They're like showing up.
Speaker 23946.5s - 3951.22s
They're able to be there like John Cruz's PERSON parents that are all, you know what I mean? Yeah.
Speaker 13951.42s - 3952.58s
At every event.
Speaker 23953.28s - 3977.36s
And which is awesome. And nobody, but in college, there were people who were like, gave him a hard time. Maybe not to his face.Maybe it was all behind his back. But it's just stupid how the world is. Like people would give him a hard time because Maybe not to his face. Maybe it was all behind his back, but it's just stupid how the world is. Like people would give him a hard time because his parents are around. Yeah. Oh, what a loser with a functioning family. Yeah, right, right. With a functional family.
Speaker 13977.82s - 3984.26s
Yeah. How dysfunctional is that to say that? Well, it's, it's just life, though. Like,
Speaker 23984.26s - 3985.6s
it's like you're smart
Speaker 13985.6s - 3991.96s
and that's good but in grade school people call you walking in psych i mean i called my wife a walking
Speaker 23991.96s - 3996.46s
encyclopedia when she was a child and it scarred her she hated hearing that if i said to you
Speaker 03996.46s - 4004.38s
this guest i'm going to bring on is a walking encyclopedia on whatever you'd be like impressed but it's
Speaker 24004.38s - 4007.22s
just funny how it certain times life, things are different.
Speaker 14008s - 4015.92s
But it's no different than if you're a football player or a baseball player and your parents show up to all your football games, your baseball games.
Speaker 24016.16s - 4018.74s
It's the same damn thing, man. Uh-huh.
Speaker 14018.9s - 4020.5s
Uh-huh.
Speaker 24020.76s - 4046.62s
And you hear it. I mean, I hear Trey McKinney's PERSON mom's at all the event. He's 19 years old. He fell asleep at a gas pump. He weighed in day one with a scarf around his neck that I'm sure his mother put on. That's cool. You know what I mean? Like, I mean, as much as, I mean, that's what I do love about him, too. You know, there's, he gets wound up in the forward facing sonar thing and everything and that becomes,
Speaker 34046.96s - 4048.18s
I mean,
Speaker 24048.36s - 4078.08s
let the kid fish, let him do whatever. Here's one point in the forward facing sonar but I, and remind me to go backto why Tray's an interesting 19 year old compared to many 19 year olds. But one point in the forward facing sonar thing because I'm lookingthrough the AOI standings and if it's just all forward facing sonar, how come Koya is in like 50th? I think he is. I mean, I have to check that. But he's, you know, he's way down there. He's had a few. Yeah, he's had a few bad ones.
Speaker 14078.08s - 4083.64s
But if, if that's all it takes, he is the old man when it comes to it.
Speaker 24084.34s - 4087.54s
Well, it wasn't like Trey PERSON was using it this time all the time or
Speaker 14087.54s - 4093.58s
patrick they're throwing top water and flukes and you know i'm going to find out he's in like
Speaker 24093.58s - 4100.76s
third hold on let me put on my glasses talk about something tell us about something interesting
Speaker 14100.76s - 4111.28s
jake well i check this out so after after the tournament was over, me and Sego and Taku went out and we're shooting some content for Shimano Japan ORG.
Speaker 24111.64s - 4113.04s
Yeah, they fired me a few years ago.
Speaker 14113.1s - 4119.74s
No big deal. Sorry. Shouldn't have said the name brand. Sorry, I didn't know that. I forgot. Yeah, you did.
Speaker 24119.74s - 4120.66s
So anyway, we go.
Speaker 14120.66s - 4127.86s
I got a ring of service right back there, 25 years of service. Where is it?
Speaker 24127.88s - 4132.52s
I'll find it. I'm not showing it's got the freaking logo on it. They've got enough. Hold on. I'm going to shrink.
Speaker 14132.68s - 4136.48s
I'm going to shrink your story. I'm supposed to be distracted. Yes.
Speaker 24136.62s - 4138.8s
Pergit is 56th, an angler of the year.
Speaker 14139s - 4139.74s
There you go.
Speaker 24140.44s - 4147.5s
And Joey Sepuentes is 1002nd.
Speaker 04148.16s - 4155.76s
So what's happening on the water is not all about forward facing sonar because those are two of the self,
Speaker 24156.06s - 4179.08s
not self-professed, but agree, you talk to anglers. Extremely good at it. So, I mean, is forward-facing sonar a big player this year? Yes. Will it be legal forever? I don't know. But will it change? I don't know. But I'm just saying there's more going on right now than just forward facing sona. Finish your story. And then I'll finish why I said Trey's a different 19 year old.
Speaker 14179.92s - 4190.54s
So we, one of the few things we had left on our shot list that we had to get for the, the content was catching a nice bass.
Speaker 34191.38s - 4191.82s
What?
Speaker 24192.36s - 4194.34s
For the company to be remained.
Speaker 14194.34s - 4197.12s
For the company that we're not talking about.
Speaker 24197.3s - 4199.68s
For them as the client. Okay. For the client.
Speaker 14201.06s - 4264.62s
So dumb. We had to go catch a bass and the spot that lee left before he catches the four pounder i'm like man there's a lot of fish there but they weren't biting but there was a stump in the water that had like five or six four to five pounders on it that lee he kept getting followbacks on his flu as he would drag him through there so i'm like taku let's go to where lee was let's just go to that spot.So we, we freaking leave the ramp and we haul ass over there. We've only got like an hour and a half before dark. And he pulls up and he pulls down. I tell him kind of what Lee PERSON was doing. And instead of doing that,he does what Taku wants to do. So he pulls down and gets out like a, uh, uh, a flipping hook and puts one of those Japanese organic origami worms on it or whatever it is.And he's live scoping. And I go, there should be some four or five pounders right there. And literally within five minutes on his live scope, he catches a five pounder, like, literally like the third cast.
Speaker 24285.38s - 4291.68s
And we get our five pounderer for the video and yeah the moral to the story is is that if you sure what if jake's your camera guy he's gonna sell your spots before you even leave town that is the moral to that story first thing i did was and when we got back to the dock was text lee and told him what we did so that he wouldn't find out when he watched the Schmato PERSON video. Yeah. The client's
Speaker 14291.68s - 4298.78s
freaking video, damn it. The client's video. I thought we were going to end this 10 minutes ago.
Speaker 24298.88s - 4304.74s
We were. We were. And then we got talking. Here's why Tray McKinney PERSON's what I do appreciate about
Speaker 14304.74s - 4305.96s
him. So it's Mother's Day.
Speaker 24306.2s - 4311s
I do Mercer ORG in the morning, run around, and thank you all for watching it.
Speaker 14311.5s - 4312.52s
It is awesome.
Speaker 24312.88s - 4315.36s
It's not awesome, but it's awesome how many of you guys watch.
Speaker 14315.44s - 4316.52s
It's really not very good.
Speaker 24316.88s - 4318.04s
But I thank you for watching.
Speaker 14318.84s - 4322.56s
But I run around and I kind of get the anglers while they're still sleepy and whatever
Speaker 24322.56s - 4324.88s
and just ask them bizarre questions.
Speaker 14329.98s - 4335.72s
So I come up to Trey and he's always a mess in the morning like that's when you see the real like that's when you see he's a 19 year old his hair's all disheveled um but i came up to him and i'm and he
Speaker 24335.72s - 4345.58s
looked better and i'm like you're you're feeling better today and he's like and his mother's right there his mother's day right he's, my mama got me some medicine.
Speaker 34347.08s - 4347.18s
And I feel much better.
Speaker 24348.4s - 4354.6s
And I'm like, well, what medicine? And he's like, what medicine, mama? She says a Z-pack.
Speaker 34356.48s - 4356.72s
And he's like, yeah, that stuff's good.
Speaker 04361.64s - 4362.1s
But it's just, dude, every other 19-year-old on earth hides that.
Speaker 24362.82s - 4368.56s
You know what I mean? Like they literally try to, I mean, everybody has a kid that doesn't want to kiss them goodbye,
Speaker 34368.68s - 4369.36s
hug them goodbye.
Speaker 24369.54s - 4370.16s
You know what I mean?
Speaker 14370.24s - 4376.72s
Like when you drop mom at high school and stuff, he already don't want me to do that. But Trey PERSON's like,
Speaker 24377.26s - 4447.32s
my mama got me some medicine. I just thought it was cool. Speaking of kids, go get yours. And we thank you for tuning in. Always good stuff from Jake, and I thank him for fitting this in around a crazy week. And speaking of a crazy week, this show's about to get a whole lot crazier. Me and Carl talked about doing, you know, 20, 30 minutes talking about something. We go a lot longer. But he talks about a lot of things that have been going on in the Vast Master Elite PRODUCT series. We may notsolve any problem, but we try. And we give a lot of opinions on a lot of things. And before this starts, I just want to let you know that none of this is supposed to be offensive to anybody.Because all of the parties discussed within care and love this sport and as long as any decisions that are made are made from that direction with care and love in control then things will be good and I have faith that things will be good I mean things are good right now but well I think we try to make them a little bit better. You let us know how this works out.
Speaker 04447.4s - 4450.38s
The one and only, Carl Jacobson PERSON.
Speaker 24451.4s - 4463.08s
Carl Jacobson PERSON, you look, I mean, the setup is wonderful. People realize what we went through to make it happen. I mean, you were a blowing out mass with lights. And now I look at my lighting and I need to fix it.
Speaker 34463.48s - 4465.22s
I just shake my head at your lighting.
Speaker 04465.34s - 4474.4s
I'm like, what are you doing? Like, this is how you light a podcast set. I've got the boat lit up. I've got the gym a little bit dark,
Speaker 34474.8s - 4476.24s
with face, perfect.
Speaker 04476.44s - 4477.26s
Got my good side.
Speaker 34478.22s - 4484.34s
This was actually a 30 second scramble with a light I found quickly.
Speaker 04487.82s - 4488.16s
We're not even sure how it works, but it works.
Speaker 24489s - 4499.72s
It works. It looks good. Now it's set. I've got my new podcast set ready to go. It looks good. It explains you your gym and your vehicle on the water.
Speaker 04500.64s - 4501.56s
It's the man cave.
Speaker 24501.56s - 4502.82s
That's your dream behind you.
Speaker 04503.4s - 4514.66s
Yeah. It's the dream cave. It's weird. It's like, it's, I've dreamt and thought about having something like this and somehow I have it.It's crazy. It's pretty cool.
Speaker 24516.12s - 4547.94s
So I want to talk to you about something very cool that you're doing. But before we get into that, I mean, let's be honest. We literally, we're supposed to record. I mean, I'm trying to's be honest. We literally were supposed to record.I mean, I'm trying to not be honest, but I'm going to be 100% honest. We were supposed to be recording. It hasn't been that long. Like, it's been an hour and 15 minutes. We've talked about what we should talk about and never do that. But it's because the fishing industry is in a weird, not the fishing industry. I mean, I think the world, but the competitive fishing industry,
Speaker 34548.44s - 4550.06s
it's a weird time.
Speaker 24551.5s - 4559.84s
There's many different opinions and many different, well, tell me where you're at with everything going on.
Speaker 04561.44s - 4682.32s
I have definitely, you know, I always do my best to see the positive side of everything. And even when I'm getting knocked down, I'm like, I'm coming back. And whatever it is, I try and look at the positive side, especially like after a tournament, like I just had a rest, recover. And then I'm like, okay, this is what I've got to do. This I get back up and I go again. And I've never, you know, dove into the negative stuff too much. But like, there's something weird with fishing now where I'm getting similar feelingsand I don't like it. And I'm like, it's just a little concerning. And I don't like it. And I'm like, it's just a little concerning. And I don't think it's anything too crazy that can write the shit. But I see it. And it's not cool when your competitors and the people that you look up toand the basis of the sport has a big negative feel around it. And life and the news and in general, that has been the case. But fishing has always been that thing that we all escape. You know, the real world realities come on. We get on the water and you take a deep breath and you're like,oh, I'm on the lake. And when that's getting carried with you onto the lake and onto the fans that want to watch fishing and onto the competitors and onto you and onto the commentators, it's affecting everyone. And I'm like, something's off and something's going to change. And I don't know, we have just spoke about it and it's it's so hard what the I didn't say this to you but my my my philosophy on ford face and sonarwas everybody's right and everybody's wrong that's what I got from when I spoke when it you
Speaker 14682.32s - 4685.22s
it doesn't matter who you speak to, they're right.
Speaker 04688.08s - 4688.58s
When you speak to the rookies on Ford ORG Face and Sonar,
Speaker 34694.12s - 4694.38s
they have put more time than anyone ever into that technology and into that technique.
Speaker 04696.86s - 4784.6s
They understand it like the back of their hands. It's really, really difficult to decipher the different fish, how to fish for them, where they're at, all of these things. It's a skill, it's a technique. And they are correct in they just got really, they got better at it than everyone else. So they're right. And it's not the be all end all. They don't jump in your boat. It's difficult. Then you talk to the other side and they're right. It shows the fish, the depth in lifetime. Your lure going in front of their face. You can make multiple casts at them. You can hook one and miss it and continue to cast to it. You don't have to worry about seasonal patterns. You can just put your trailer motor down and find them. It's definitely, it's the most powerful fish catching technology ever created. It's made it easy for easier for younger guys to get into the sport and dominate. They don't have to put in the work. They're right too. They don't have to learn what most of the guys had to learn. So like, they're wrong in saying that, oh, you just put it down and you catch fish. And the rookies are wrong for saying, like, it's still, like, it's still really hard. Yeah, it is, but it's like, it's the best technology ever created. It's made things a lot easier. That's why you're dominant. So which side do you take? Everybody's right and everybody's wrong in every sense of it. So, like, how do you come up with a plan for that?
Speaker 14784.72s - 4800.8s
And you have to take all of that out of the equation. Everyone's competition, everyone's finish, everyone's opinion and say, what is best for the bass? What's the best for the future? What's the best for the lakes? What's the best thing for these kids coming up and learning the future of the sport?
Speaker 04800.8s - 4835.76s
And that has to be the sole thing that you look at nothing else it has nothing to do with where the legends are finishing and where the rookies are finishing it just has to be is this good for the fish the lakes the sport and what's going to happen in 10 years and I think if we do that we'll make the right decision if you really look in depth of how it's going. But it's, you and me just had an hour and a half conversation. I don't feel like we, I feel like I understand. You help me understand more and you understand where I coming from. But you sort of like, you keep going,
Speaker 24835.88s - 4840.5s
okay, go back this way. And then you just keep hitting. It's not like we came up with a solution
Speaker 04840.5s - 4863.46s
and said, yeah, we didn't. This is what they should do. This is needs to be done. And everything would be fine um so it's a weird it's a weird time and um we'll talk about the positive thing that we got going with the elites but what's crazy is i did a post about what i was what i'm doing with the fear
Speaker 24863.46s - 4865.2s
my heart thing and nobody cares it's no it's this is what i was, what I'm doing with the fear of my heart thing. Nobody cares.
Speaker 04867.44s - 4875.04s
It's no, it's, this is what I was going to say. It's the first time ever that I seen some spark from a positive thing like that.
Speaker 34875.66s - 4877.64s
Like I see it.
Speaker 04877.82s - 4918.54s
Like, it's the first time where I'm like, people are finally sick of the drama and the crap and that actually hit them. And dude, I've always posted stuff. And it, I've helped. I know that people see my story, but it comes from like me digging down and coming back and fighting and not giving up and people like that. But like just a general in-person positive posts that highlight something, it just is dead.If you don't click bait it, if you don't say the most controversial stuff, it's not going to go anywhere. And that post I posted with Caleb, it's the first time that I've gone, people want
Speaker 24918.54s - 4928.08s
this now. And it's cool. That's great to hear because um you're right i mean nobody gives a crap
Speaker 04928.08s - 4933.58s
nobody crap nobody cares like and it's not just fishing it's everything i mean why do you think
Speaker 24933.58s - 4939.3s
that every storm has a name now why do you think it's the first time this has ever happened in
Speaker 34939.3s - 4944.36s
a hundred years for everything like everything is attention grabbing the world's become that way
Speaker 14944.36s - 4949.42s
it's i mean and it's not like it's a surprise. I mean, there was a whole bunch of
Speaker 24949.42s - 4953.58s
educated writers and stuff that were like, yeah, you know, you're going to give me voice to
Speaker 34953.58s - 4958.36s
people 140 characters at a time and they're not going to give you the facts. They're going to
Speaker 24958.36s - 4965.28s
just feed you what they, you know what I mean? And that's, yeah, yeah, I fight it every single freaking week with this podcast like yeah
Speaker 04965.28s - 4976.8s
do you know how many times that I sit around and I think of a title and it's something that somebody said on the show like it is literally something they said and I can't do it like I don't and
Speaker 24976.8s - 4985.72s
there's part of me that drives me like I'm like what's wrong with you why don't you just collect bait the crap out of this yeah Yeah. Because that's what works.
Speaker 04985.88s - 4986.18s
I mean, people.
Speaker 34986.18s - 4986.88s
That would have worked.
Speaker 04987.18s - 4987.34s
Yeah.
Speaker 34990s - 4991.54s
It's a weird time.
Speaker 04991.8s - 4996.96s
But I feel like some of what you're feeling, some of what some people in this
Speaker 34996.96s - 5001.62s
industry are feeling is kind of exactly how the world is feeling.
Speaker 05001.92s - 5006.18s
Like, I mean, if you don't think, I mean, social media and everything,
Speaker 25006.26s - 5007.92s
although there's so many benefits to it,
Speaker 35007.96s - 5010.04s
there's a lot of negatives that come with that.
Speaker 25010.04s - 5024.34s
And it's the constant feeding of negativity, the constant, you're wrong, you're... Yeah. In general, it's bad. So...
Speaker 05024.34s - 5029.5s
But I'm glad to people liked your post. Yeah it's not just that i got a lot of messages
Speaker 25029.5s - 5034.32s
from it and i got like a lot of people saying that this is what we need this is
Speaker 05034.32s - 5186.82s
whatever you're highlighting that's what people are going to see and whatever like you know it's just this it's that thing you like you're and me and certain people, you're in a fight for attention and getting people to, to support you or follow you. And you're up against a monster because the negativity is going to just, it's going to crush you every single time. So, like, you're, you're constantly in a battle uphill. But like, I feel like it's just the right thing to do. But like, I'm so glad for got people that do do the podcast that can handle it and are bringing things to light. Like, I'm glad that that is there because some things need to be spoke about and it needs to be put out there. So, like, I'm happy that that's there and it's getting spoken about. But that's not all you can speak about. There's a ton of stuff that is going on every single day that is positive that will give people hope and that will make people realize like the world is an ending. There's a bunch of amazing people out there and there's all of this really cool stuff happening and we're just not highlighting it none of it's getting shown because it doesn't sell and so it's it's i want i think we all need to get in a meeting with the anglers, but Bassmaster ORG is the leader. We're looking at them. We're looking at you guys at the pinnacle. And this is my dream. This is what I left. My entire country for my family, my friends, everything that I've ever loved. I left my life behind. I need Bassmaster ORG to show me that I left all of that for a reason, that they are the pinnacle, they are the leaders. We are going to make the right decisions every single time and also lead this sport into the direction that you're going to want to be in and you're going to want to get kids into and your daughter or your son and you're going to be excited to do that and it's not like that right now. So like, okay, something's got to change. We've got to do something and geteveryone's enthusiasm back. Get everyone excited about the sport and know that when we go and compete, we're on a level playing field and we're out there to fish and do what we love and the reason
Speaker 35186.82s - 5192.28s
that we got into this sport. And I just don't think it would take many decisions to just
Speaker 05192.28s - 5220.68s
write it right back onto that level. But right now, it's just stale and sitting there and we think, and the anglers think, this is how it's always going to be from now on. That's the part that scares people, I think. But it's not going to be like this forever. It's going to change. It's going to get better or it's going to adjust. But right now it feels like, oh, this is how the sport's going to be from now on.
Speaker 25222.94s - 5250.12s
How was it stale? How was it stale? I mean, you said it's stale and it feels like this. And again, I'm not, I'm not defending Bass at all. I'm just trying to find out what's going on because when you say like you know is this what my kid's going to do well more kids are doing it now than ever in history
Speaker 05250.12s - 5252.06s
literally ever
Speaker 25252.06s - 5256.26s
in history there's more young competitors not just on the elites
Speaker 05256.26s - 5261.94s
I'm talking about the amount of people fishing collegiate tournaments high school tournaments grade school tournaments
Speaker 25261.94s - 5271.78s
so competitive fishing is exploding from one side, but it sounds like you don't feel that.
Speaker 05272.62s - 5366.5s
Yeah, so it's, it's, that side is great, but are we leading them into the, like the right thing, you know, and it's going to come back to the Fort Face FAC, and I know everyone's talking about that, but the different things, are they getting led into a sport that has a great future that doesn't have that animosity and the things that are happening right now? Are we leading all of those people? Yeah, the participation is huge. But what does it look like in 10 years and 15 years? It doesn't matter if there's more people than ever. Is it, are you going to be begging for a bite in five years, wondering what the lake's going to be like? Or is it going to be this amount of heat all the time from against rookies from theolder guys? Or is it going to be like somewhere that they're super excited to get into and fish and know that they're going to get the respect or from someone when they do well. Like, I feel for the rookies right now because, like,I know I was there. And if I had, if I got discredited and I did really well as a kid, I'd be like, this freaking sucks. And that's what's happening right now in a couple of little decisions. And that wouldn't, a couple little things. And that wouldn't have happened. You'd be like, because Brandon PERSON didn't get that heat that much because they knew he was just a fighter. And he was doing, you know, there was, it was sort of like the rules were the same. And he was just fighting through. And that's how you know something's got to change. Because there's guys that have been dominant,
Speaker 15366.7s - 5369.44s
like Brandon PERSON, that haven't got this heat before.
Speaker 05369.96s - 5417.24s
And Brandon PERSON, it was like, is he ever going to not catch him? Like he's just, he would just, he's one and one and one.Did he ever get, why didn't he get that heat like what you're seeing now? And it's because the rules are always like flowing because the things are changing. You went from three guys in the opens to nine and it's always like something is going to change it to be like, oh, now we have to fix that rule. And that's what happened this year.We just had a couple little things that we had to just got it in check, the guys wouldn't have had as much to be mad at. But I think there's just like two or three things that if you just fixed, we could just get back on the straight and narrow and heading in the right direction. All right.
Speaker 25417.24s - 5419.08s
Let's fix them. Me and you.
Speaker 05419.18s - 5423.92s
Let's fix them right now. If we can control it, what needs fix it? Uh-oh.
Speaker 25424.14s - 5427.44s
Your lighting system shut down.'s a bad to go flat
Speaker 05427.44s - 5434.68s
hang on oh boy look it was so good up until this point um Carl PERSON's got to fix his lighting it was so
Speaker 25434.68s - 5480s
good I mean we shouldn't have talked for an hour and 15 minutes it turns out without recording because if you do your laptop will go dead. Are you back? I'm back. I'm back, I think. Hang on. But let's deal with all these topics one by one.If there's a feeling out there, I mean, and none of what we're going to say here is law. It's just opinions. And like you said at the beginning, everybody's right on both sides of the forward-facing sonar argument. There's, but that doesn't, I mean, you have to, it has to go one way or another. But let's, it's not just forward-facing sonar.
Speaker 35480.12s - 5487.02s
So you said that if a few calls were made differently, let's start in chronological order.
Speaker 05487.18s - 5489.58s
So what was the first thing this season that stood out to you?
Speaker 25490.48s - 5495.48s
The big one that most people don't know about, and this is what I hate for the rookies,
Speaker 05495.48s - 5542.04s
is the way it's set out is that you weren't under the same rules with information until you made the elite series EVENT. So it just happened that the guys in the rookie had a couple months where legally they could gather information on a lake before they made the elites. The difference was from years past and I had spoken to Bass PERSON like for years I'd say this isn't right. The guys are the guys that know they're in the elites. They're going to be able to get info because the schedulescome out, but they're not officially in the elites. You need to fix that. And because the centrals and the Easterns NORP would be finished, it would just be three guys in the Northerns NORP. And like, back then when there'sthree, you didn't know if you're going to make the elites until like you weighed in on the final
Speaker 25542.04s - 5544.12s
day. Yeah. So it was
Speaker 05544.12s - 5630.1s
so it just didn't play. And the guys probably didn't see it as much where this year with nine, they had, they kind of, there was probably 15 guys that knew that I had a legitimate shot to get into the elite series EVENT.And then they weren't under our rule set. So they're allowed to get information. And information in this sport is the Be all the end all that is nothing that beats it forward face and sonar doesn't even touch it if you can get the right info from a guy that's lived on that lake and he can give you the right deal it's your it's unstoppable it's unbeatable and it sucks for them because the the guys that just because that was in the rules, they're not getting the credit that they deserve because they're really good anglers. They've put us so much work and time into, they want this worse than ever. And like it's just getting, it's just a little bit like winning with Ford ORG Face and Sonar. That's the machines getting the,the machines getting the credit, not the angler. So I hate that for that, for anyone that wins with that too. But just that alone, in this day and age, in the tooth, 2024, at this higher sport with this amount of money on the line, with our families and the money and your careers, that should never, ever have happened. And that needs to be fixed like now.
Speaker 25631.22s - 5637.08s
So, and again, I do not work in the tournament department department.
Speaker 05637.24s - 5638.98s
I just moved the hole that makes the words.
Speaker 25640.44s - 5644.32s
These are just, but to me, the obvious answer is there.
Speaker 35644.44s - 5645.54s
Everybody's under the same rules.
Speaker 25646.1s - 5651.08s
If you're fishing the EQs, if you sign up to be part of the EQs, I mean, we know who's
Speaker 35651.08s - 5652.4s
trying to qualify and who's not.
Speaker 25652.56s - 5657.14s
If you sign up to be part of that, you cannot receive any information once the schedule is
Speaker 05657.14s - 5659s
announced, no different than Elite Series Angler PRODUCT.
Speaker 35659.16s - 5662.38s
And if you don't make it, you didn't make it.
Speaker 05662.44s - 5663.6s
It doesn't matter anyways.
Speaker 25664.24s - 5666.54s
So, that's an easy fix.
Speaker 05666.7s - 5679.66s
Easy fix. Yeah. Bats ORG's not going to change it now. I mean, they, they're, they've never, as far as I know, I don't think we ever change rules midseason. I mean, it, it would be a rule change going into next
Speaker 25679.66s - 5688.22s
year and it would affect the guys qualifying into next year. Nobody's going to fight on that. Nobody in the elites is going to say, no, no, no, we need them to get information
Speaker 05688.22s - 5695.7s
and nobody qualifying, even if they want it, is going to go publicly and say, no, no, no, no, no. I need extra time to gather information.
Speaker 35696.1s - 5702.12s
So on paper, that's an easy one to fix. Yeah, we've fixed it. Done.
Speaker 25702.28s - 5702.98s
We're fixed one.
Speaker 05702.98s - 5705.22s
I wish I had to grab a gavel.
Speaker 35705.46s - 5705.86s
Okay.
Speaker 25706.5s - 5707.38s
That was easy.
Speaker 05707.54s - 5707.88s
Next.
Speaker 25708.06s - 5711.34s
Yep. What do you do with Ford ORG Face and Sonar?
Speaker 05711.84s - 5713.12s
That's got to be the last one.
Speaker 25713.24s - 5713.66s
Slow down.
Speaker 05713.66s - 5717.52s
I mean, you can't just. I went too far ahead.
Speaker 25717.56s - 5729.9s
You went too far ahead. It was like when I weighed in and I was third and I said, I was doing my winning speech and you're like, there's still three people to weigh in. I was like and I said I was doing my winning speech and you're like there's still three people to weigh in. I was like, oh yeah.
Speaker 05731.7s - 5732.42s
Oh yeah.
Speaker 25735.92s - 5744.62s
The next thing is just getting the rules lined up in check.
Speaker 05756.08s - 5762.44s
the rules lined up in check to where we know that grey area has no place in this sport. I can, grey area is ruining, is bringing the tension to all of us.
Speaker 35767.56s - 5774s
Because some live in the grey area LOC and when you don't and you live so far outside of it it's so hurts you because dude like a guy at a gas station be like
Speaker 05774s - 5786.68s
they might in a spinner bait and i just like i'm like all right i got to just burn all my spinner baits now you know like um i you know some of us live on that side where that's nothing and the other there's some and the gray
Speaker 25786.68s - 5795.48s
area is where it's one or lost yeah and i had last year on lake murray i was second in angle of
Speaker 05795.48s - 5989.16s
the year think we're going into the lake murray and i caught 19 pounds on day one my momentum dude was it was freaking unstoppable. Like, I'm like, dude, I can't make a bad decision. There's 30 minutes to go and I'm going down this bank and there's this bed and there's a six and a half pounder like five feet from it and a one pounder in the middle of it. And I'm like, are you kidding me?And so like I tuck into the shade shade all the things i've learned off proznik and guys watching bass master like i was hopeless at bed fishing i've never been any good and i put every trick on the in the book on this fish and i was catching them on beds and dude i got it from five feet off the bed to sitting right on the bed flaring its gills and dude my knees were clacking and And I'm like, I'm going to catch this fish. And my marshal's sort of like, you've got to be back in 10 minutes. And I like swim this, I swim this swim bait over its head, a top hook. And I just get it real fast to it.And I kill it. And it just turns vertical and just inhales this six inch swim bait. And dude, this fish was so smart. It was unbelievable. Freaking hook it. I get it. I fight hook it i get it i fight it i get it inand i'm like i'm like dude now i'm probably leading and the hook is in its lip but when it went in it hit it on the outside of the lip and i knew and i shut its mouth and i'm like i can see the entry point of where that hook went in. And my marshal's like, dude, it ate the bait. I watched it. There's not this. And I'm like, all of my senses were like, I can't let this fish go. Like, I just did all of that work. And all of these amazing things are going to come from it. And so if I keep that fish, I'm leading A-O-Y, I'm second in the tournament, I have a camera the next day. Dude, what would have come from that fish is... Lots of big game. Unbelievable things for my family, for all my fans, for my sponsors, every single one.And my Marshall ORG said, it's good, dude. You caught it. And I said, dude, I kind of let it go. It's on the outside of the mouth. And I unhooked it and I let it go.And I was 24th in the tournament then and just life just went on. And I'm like, you know, it's just me telling people, I let a sixth founder go. And like, no one cares. This is, this is where like just, I want to make sure that Bassmaster ORG protects that decision that I made there, that every single person is going to behold to that standard of integrity. And just right now, I just don't know if it is.But if it is, just be transparent with us and let us know, tell the story, make sure there's nothing up in the air. That's to our imagination. Because when it's to our imagination, we're going to think the worst every time. And I'm not pointing at anyone. I hate this for Corey PERSON because he's got a little. We're talking about a rule, not a person.
Speaker 35989.6s - 5993.72s
Yeah, we're not talking about Corey PERSON, but just that thing, it dampened his win.
Speaker 25993.8s - 5996.04s
I hate that for him, that people said something.
Speaker 05996.04s - 6025.12s
And it could have been, you could have shown a full clip, shown what the lead up to that. And told, this is what happened and this is why it was legal. So it wasn't left up to the imagination of us and people. Like you should get the full extent of you win when you win. And I think that with that, like when I look back and other things happen, I'm like, no one cared. The only reason I let that fish go was for me.
Speaker 16025.62s - 6027.28s
That's the only reason I let it go.
Speaker 36028.24s - 6035.36s
And bass could do a better job maybe of when things happen like that.
Speaker 16035.36s - 6036.12s
It was on video.
Speaker 06036.74s - 6064s
You could highlight that and say, this is the standard that we hold for our anglers here at Bassmaster ORG. This is what we expect. But that never gets shown. It's the win, the thing. It doesn't.It's all about whatever else it is. And I think we've got to bring that, know that like the integrity of the sports being held to the highest level.
Speaker 36064.16s - 6065.78s
So like I feel comfortable
Speaker 06065.78s - 6103.94s
that when I'm competing and putting $5,000 of my money up that like I'm on the same level playing field as everyone else it's bloody hard to do and I don't envy their position and I love Chris Lisa I think they all do a great job but like when you break a rule you're done you. You're last, brother. I'm sorry. You just, you, I hate that for you, man. I hate that. You didn't show the camera. You shouldn't have run that. You didn't read the rules. It's going to suck, but you're, you're going to come last. You don't have fish in this. If you say, don't, did you watch the meeting and no.
Speaker 26104.06s - 6107.46s
Okay, but you're getting ahead to another rule. We've got one rule of time.
Speaker 06107.56s - 6110.9s
There's no way. I'm sorry to bring in. But I do want to deal with all of them,
Speaker 36110.96s - 6112.2s
but I don't want it to get.
Speaker 26112.96s - 6115.82s
So specifically the fish being hooked inside the mouth.
Speaker 36117.04s - 6119.28s
What I've been told is, is,
Speaker 26120.34s - 6137.86s
so how the rule reads right now, and you can correct me. I don't have the rules in front of me, but I'm paraphrasing. Any fish that you are visually sight fishing has to be hooked inside the mouth. Corey PERSON took a lie detector and was asked if he was sight fishing the fish.
Speaker 36139.28s - 6141.5s
He passed lie detector, said he was not.
Speaker 26142.44s - 6148.36s
So via the rules, how can somebody be penalized for something? Yeah.
Speaker 06148.98s - 6150.9s
And that being said,
Speaker 36150.9s - 6151.7s
I mean,
Speaker 06151.74s - 6154.88s
we've told the story a ton of times about Brandon Lester PERSON. I mean,
Speaker 36155.24s - 6163.66s
he's a wrangler two years ago when Paul Nick PERSON won it because he caught an eight-pounder in the St. John's River that somehow
Speaker 06163.66s - 6171.78s
sucked his bait in, but it went back out through their gills, which happens. I've been amazed how much I see it in underwater footage.
Speaker 26172.5s - 6176.28s
But that fish ate the bait, but it was hooked outside the mouth.
Speaker 06176.84s - 6179.3s
It hooked inside the mouth, but it went through the gill.
Speaker 26179.92s - 6180.82s
Oh, yeah, that was the opposite.
Speaker 06181.02s - 6183.22s
So he sucked it in through the grill, but it was hooked inside the mouth.
Speaker 26183.22s - 6185.08s
Inside the mouth, but it didn't go through.
Speaker 06186.18s - 6188.58s
So this is how the rule reads,
Speaker 26188.7s - 6190.4s
which makes it confusing.
Speaker 06190.66s - 6192.1s
And this is here, we're going to fix it.
Speaker 26192.2s - 6193.22s
We're about to fix it right now.
Speaker 06193.22s - 6193.94s
That's what we're doing.
Speaker 26194.46s - 6195.42s
The rule says,
Speaker 06195.66s - 6219.42s
and I could get this wrong because I'm just thinking about it, it says a fish may not be intentionally foul hooked while at all. I think, or it might say while site fishing. Or it might just say a fish may not be intentionally foul hooked while at all. I think, or it might say while sight fishing or it might just say a fish may not be intentionally foul hooked. And then it's like full stop. And then it says while sight fishing, every hook, every fish must be on a bed.
Speaker 26219.54s - 6222s
Yeah, on a bed must be hooked inside the mouth.
Speaker 06223.5s - 6256.24s
So this is how you, so that, that's kind of confusing because this needs to be fixed because I think I should have kept, I should have been able to keep my fish. Don't you reckon at Murray LOC? It, I, I, I was fishing for the fish. It visually ate the bait. I just got unlucky that it hit it on the outside of the mouth.Brandon PERSON, it's breathed it in. He hooked it inside the mouth. The fish obviously was trying to eat it or whatever, and he got unlucky.
Speaker 36257.18s - 6264.56s
So the rule, so you shouldn't have to let go of fish that you just got unlucky on. Man, if it missed it by this much,
Speaker 06266.24s - 6290.04s
like the fish ate the bait. you should be able to keep it. So I think it should be that just the intentionally snagging part potentially. If you are, if you are site fishing, if you are sight fishing at all for bass, you cannot intentionally snag the fish and would that just clear it
Speaker 26290.04s - 6299.04s
yeah um but i think you're going to i mean right away it opens to the gray of forward facing sonar
Speaker 06299.04s - 6304.72s
where people are like are you trying to like i honestly think the whole snagging of a bass on a bed
Speaker 36304.72s - 6310.6s
in an elite series event when you're in contention, when you have a camera and you,
Speaker 06310.8s - 6311.4s
you know what I mean?
Speaker 26311.48s - 6312.72s
Like, I mean, it's insanity.
Speaker 36312.94s - 6321.02s
Like, why would I ever, 98% of its body is out of play.
Speaker 26321.36s - 6323.3s
So 2% is in the mouth.
Speaker 36323.6s - 6325.22s
So if I think I'm good enough,
Speaker 26325.34s - 6325.88s
and trust me,
Speaker 36325.94s - 6327.58s
I snagged some suckers growing up,
Speaker 26327.64s - 6327.74s
dude,
Speaker 36327.74s - 6329.84s
I am a freaking snagging expert,
Speaker 06330.02s - 6330.42s
okay?
Speaker 36331.7s - 6332.12s
Like,
Speaker 06332.14s - 6338.42s
we're not talking to hundreds of suckers. We're talking thousands of suckers. I have snagged. I'm willing to admit it.
Speaker 36341.66s - 6342.26s
It's hard.
Speaker 26342.44s - 6346.38s
It's, you know what I mean? Like I, if you're out in the middle of lake, I mean, if you're just blatant cheater, you know what I mean like I if you're out in the middle of lake I mean if
Speaker 06346.38s - 6352.14s
if you're just late and cheater you know what I mean I mean yeah sure you could snag a fish
Speaker 26352.14s - 6375.74s
get it in the boat and say it was hooked in the mouth but if you're trying to do it on camera I don't think anyone would ever do that but I think that what we are in danger of and I'd like to hear your opinion as dangler, is the initial thought, and I'm sure there's people watching this, listening to this that are thinking it right now, well, why not just make it every single fish you catch needs to be hooked in the mouth? Yeah.
Speaker 36376.12s - 6377.32s
And that is such a,
Speaker 26377.44s - 6384.58s
that's got nothing to do with forward faces, so now it's got nothing to do with bed fishing. When you throw a jerk bait, some of those fish, I mean, what's to stop a fish?
Speaker 06384.58s - 6385.78s
Most of them. Jerk bait, it gets hooked in of those fish, I mean, what's the top of a fish? A jerk bait.
Speaker 26386.32s - 6392.1s
It gets hooked in the mouth, and it also gets hooked in the chin, but the one in the mouth comes out, and now it's illegal fish.
Speaker 06392.28s - 6400.04s
Or a top water bait when a fish, you know, just pops it and gets it in the top of the head. Those are all so that's
Speaker 26400.04s - 6421.68s
where I think that one becomes difficult. I think straight up, like you shouldn't be able to snaggy a fish clearly. Yeah. I think we one becomes difficult. I think straight up, like you shouldn't be able to snag a fish clearly. Yeah. I think we and Zona talked about it in last week's show. I mean, Zona straight up said, I think Corey should have called Laysen ORG and dealt with thatsituation. But the problem is you're dealing with things and you're feeling with because if the rule
Speaker 36421.68s - 6425.66s
says if you're not looking, if you're not sight fishing that fish on a bed,
Speaker 26426.26s - 6457.02s
only one person on earth knows. Yeah. If he was looking at that fish. I mean, his brother bird dug it and said there's a fish here. Yeah. It's such a weird, but according to Bass rules, yeah. He did nothing wrong. And he passed a polygraph that proved that. Yeah. So how do you... So then you're dealing with a situation where you let said fish go because you felt acertain way. Well, if somebody doesn't feel that they did anything wrong...
Speaker 06457.02s - 6457.3s
Yeah.
Speaker 26457.94s - 6459.08s
And I'm not saying they did.
Speaker 06459.38s - 6478.68s
No. And in that situation, I just feel for Corey PERSON, because if he did everything right, which he did, obviously, he, did, obviously, he, like, it should have just been explained better to all of us. So, like, because, like, if you just see the clip where he's looking and there's a bed and then he catches one and it's on the outside of the mouth, it just looks bad from a visual perspective, like, if you
Speaker 36478.68s - 6484.66s
explain it properly, then, then it wouldn't have probably got the attention of the heat.
Speaker 06484.96s - 6494.26s
But, you know, but, and this is where I want the rules to be fixed. I don't know if we can fix them right here, but like in that situation, if you were, if you were
Speaker 26494.26s - 6500.5s
just solely bed fishing and site fishing, you know, and maybe the rule, maybe just you're going
Speaker 06500.5s - 6537s
to have to deal with the unlucky ones. Like, say, well, in this situation, Corey PERSON would have had to let that go. If you're sight fishing for fish on beds, they have to be caught inside the mouth, no matter what.So that means perspective fishing, like the forward face and sonar thing, snagging and all that, I just don't, I just, that's a one in a million.I've talked to guys. They're just like, dude, if you can do it, like good luck. But when you're seeing them on that perspective modeand they're on a bed and you know they're on a bed, I think they should just have to be hooked inside the mouth. And then if you get unlucky and they're on the outside of the mouth, you got to bloody let them go and it sucks.
Speaker 36537.44s - 6537.58s
Yeah.
Speaker 06537.7s - 6557.72s
You either do that or, so there's going to be two, got to be two rules. Let's either if you know you're fishing for bedded fish, they have to be inside the mouth. If or you cannot intentionally snag a betting fish in full stop. Like I think they're the two rules right there.Yeah.
Speaker 26558.08s - 6560.48s
I think that's pretty simple, straightforward.
Speaker 06560.48s - 6567.76s
But it sucks that like, yeah, for my fish, I'm like, damn, that's just unlucky.
Speaker 36568.12s - 6571.04s
Still screwed. Like, yeah, like, no, yeah, I would be screwed on that.
Speaker 06571.06s - 6582.48s
No, I would be able to keep it on. I would have been able to keep that fish if it was, I didn't intentionally snag the fish. So I would have got it in. It's on the outside of the lip, but the fish ate the bait. But isn't the,
Speaker 26582.48s - 6587.64s
putting the, inserting the word intent, doesn't that make it gray? Yeah.
Speaker 06588.06s - 6590.04s
Yeah, well, that's the, you know what I mean?
Speaker 26591.24s - 6592.36s
That's the problem.
Speaker 06592.52s - 6595.1s
Like, because I mean, I don't know your intent.
Speaker 26595.48s - 6597.5s
I don't know your intent on anything.
Speaker 06597.5s - 6599.7s
You can tell me I really just feel this way,
Speaker 36599.7s - 6601.98s
but I don't truly know your intent.
Speaker 06603.24s - 6603.54s
Yeah.
Speaker 36605s - 6614.24s
But I, and I, listen, I, I think that as the world continues to evolve and change,
Speaker 26614.24s - 6621.16s
I think that one area that Bass PERSON is getting better at and they should continue to get better
Speaker 36621.16s - 6631.74s
at is that kind of communication, you know, because I mean, they've never never, like it's always been that way. So-and-so got D-Qed, like, you don't know why, you don't, you know what I mean,
Speaker 06631.74s - 6637.72s
but, but it's, and I think at one time, that was fine. But now we live in a time where before
Speaker 36637.72s - 6642.52s
away is over, there's going to be a dude making TikToks PRODUCT about you and crucifying you.
Speaker 26642.96s - 6645.54s
And you don't, yeah, you can't defend yourself.
Speaker 36647.3s - 6651.88s
Yeah, and it's real easy to, you know, so rightfully wrongfully.
Speaker 26651.88s - 6657.32s
So that situation, but that's going to be, that's going to be something Bass PERSON is going
Speaker 06657.32s - 6660.48s
to have to deal with moving forward because that's how the world is.
Speaker 36660.6s - 6661.08s
I mean, people.
Speaker 06661.64s - 6663.4s
It's going to have to be put out there.
Speaker 26663.68s - 6666.22s
And it's, man, it's, I don't envy their job because, people, it's going to have to be put out there. And it's, man, it's,
Speaker 06666.46s - 6672.22s
I don't envy their job because, yeah, it's so hard, but maybe you need like a panel because,
Speaker 26672.42s - 6676.84s
you know, a good thing that I thought, like, there's, there's a huge difference between,
Speaker 06677.16s - 6683.72s
like, someone passing me in the no way to get in front of me to intentionally get to a 10
Speaker 26683.72s - 6687.8s
pounder. And I'm like, dude, you can't, you know, you can't idle quicker than me.
Speaker 16687.84s - 6691.02s
You can't stay on pad through the no weight to get in front of me.
Speaker 06691.3s - 6695.36s
So if he does that, you might be, you might be dequeed.
Speaker 26695.4s - 6697.18s
You might be whatever, like, whatever happens.
Speaker 06697.24s - 6702.16s
But like, if I'm running in some backwater and the Sabine ORG and I don't know where I am
Speaker 26702.16s - 6705s
and I'm just trying to get to a spot and someone's like he ran
Speaker 06705s - 6709.9s
that no wake like that's not a decurable like I wasn't trying to run it to get an advantage.
Speaker 36709.9s - 6715.7s
So like this is where the whole situation of gray area sort of starts.
Speaker 06715.9s - 6718.36s
It's like and dude your intent is everything.
Speaker 16718.5s - 6721.66s
I know you said that but like that has to be on like the test or whatever.
Speaker 06721.66s - 6722.9s
Like what was your intent?
Speaker 36723.24s - 6725.96s
Was your intent to get
Speaker 06725.96s - 6746.88s
information and gain an advantage was your intent to snag that fish was the intent to just catch it was your intent to run that to gain an advantage to beat people there was your intent just you didn't know you know so that's everything really your intent is everything when that should show up i guess if you
Speaker 36746.88s - 6757.92s
ask the question yeah so that yeah that's i think so how do we fix so how do we fix that
Speaker 06757.92s - 6762.6s
like i don't i'm i'm not sure that your rule fixes it like i'm i think it's still it's just
Speaker 26762.6s - 6765.3s
another version of what we have. You know what I mean?
Speaker 36765.3s - 6772.28s
Like you cannot. It's the same knowingly snag a fish when bed fishing. You cannot intentionally
Speaker 26772.28s - 6777.78s
snag. So are you saying it's okay to snag him if you did it by accident? Yes.
Speaker 36777.92s - 6781.84s
There's a lot of people making accidents all of a sudden. That's what you're saying,
Speaker 26781.84s - 6788.32s
you're saying, well, it's an accident. Yeah. If I plow through a crank, Pete PERSON, you know what I mean?
Speaker 36788.4s - 6793.38s
With big treble hooks through a bed repeatedly, I might accidentally catch one,
Speaker 26793.44s - 6795.94s
but I was never trying, you know, like that's.
Speaker 06795.94s - 6796.34s
Yeah.
Speaker 26796.58s - 6802.58s
So the fix is if you are betting fish, if you are fishing for bedding fish, no matter what,
Speaker 06802.96s - 6805.12s
visually or on your graph, whatever you're doing.
Speaker 26805.36s - 6809s
Electronically or visually, they have to be hooked inside the mouth.
Speaker 06809.08s - 6809.78s
That's fixed.
Speaker 26810.68s - 6811.04s
Okay.
Speaker 06811.16s - 6812.24s
So that fixes it.
Speaker 26812.32s - 6812.62s
All right.
Speaker 06812.68s - 6813.36s
We got that one.
Speaker 26813.82s - 6814.66s
I'm all for it.
Speaker 06814.78s - 6815.48s
I'm all for it.
Speaker 26815.58s - 6817.32s
And honestly, I don't know that that.
Speaker 06818.5s - 6821.18s
You're going to get unlucky sometimes like what happened.
Speaker 26821.28s - 6824.06s
You're going to just, okay, that sucks.
Speaker 06824.18s - 6825.9s
I could have waited a bit longer
Speaker 26825.9s - 6830.56s
or i shouldn't use that lure with the treble on it like that's what i kept thinking like dude that one
Speaker 06830.56s - 6875.2s
that i caught it was my fault i had a quad on the top of a top fork and when it sucked it in it hit it like that and i'm like you're like i was going to catch it it was ready to go i should have finished it like after that i should have fished a texas rig and got on it and got it to catch it. It was ready to go. I should have finished it. Like after that, I should have fished a Texas GPE rig and got it on it and got it to eat it. But I had an exposed hook and it hit it on the side of the face. I'm like, I didn't blame anyone. I blamed me. I said, that was a dumb move. I used that bait to get it in there. And then I used it for it toeat it. And I should never have done that. I'm like, dude, you would, I rushed it. I was getting impatient and I tried to catch it. So like a lot of the time it is your fault. You got to use a different like it will if you know it's got to be inside the mouth, you won't use an open
Speaker 26875.2s - 6881.02s
hook. Yeah. And sometimes you just get screwed by it. I mean, yeah, look, never mind a bas rule.
Speaker 06881.02s - 6885.36s
Look at, look at Steve Kennedy, Kennedy, you know, in California.
Speaker 26887.38s - 6887.54s
You know, he set the record and everything.
Speaker 06892.74s - 6893.44s
But like he let multiple 10, 9, 8 pounders, like multiple ones go.
Speaker 26896.38s - 6920.3s
He could have decimated the record even more. Yeah. And maybe still hold that record to this day if he could have kept those fish. But rules are rules. I think there's a lot of negative with every fish gets hooked inside the mouth, but I just don't know that there's any way they can do it any other way. I mean, if you can visually see a fish, anyway, you can't have it hooked anywhere,
Speaker 36920.42s - 6926.48s
but in the mouth, I just think that because, yeah, because it's just going to, I mean,
Speaker 26926.48s - 6930.42s
there's no other way to, like, as much as it sucks that some guys will get screwed for being
Speaker 36930.42s - 6935.28s
honest. Yeah. You want to get rid of gray. Yeah. There's only one way to get rid of gray.
Speaker 26935.82s - 6944.44s
Yeah. And that's it. Um, okay, so we've got two rules down, right? I think we're done pretty good
Speaker 36944.44s - 6945.7s
on them. I'm happy with them. We've done okay. We're more effective rules down right i think we're done pretty good on them i'm happy with them
Speaker 26945.7s - 6950.96s
i think we've done okay we're more effective uh when we're recording than we are we're just talking
Speaker 36950.96s - 6958.7s
and we went around and round um what what else what else has happened that we need to to deal with um
Speaker 26958.7s - 6966.08s
so what's everyone mad about um you want me to give you them and you tell me if they're mad about them?
Speaker 06966.32s - 6967.04s
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 26967.2s - 6967.68s
All right.
Speaker 06967.74s - 6968.7s
Go through the list.
Speaker 26968.94s - 6970.34s
Drame McKinney PERSON fishing in locks.
Speaker 06971.3s - 6978.16s
Yep, that should have been, you know, that was, that should have been up to the tournament
Speaker 26978.16s - 6980.94s
directors to kind of like express that a little bit better.
Speaker 06980.94s - 6983.16s
I don't think it was trace fault at all.
Speaker 26983.4s - 6987.86s
I think the, I think we, you know, it sucked because I think the story
Speaker 06987.86s - 6990.14s
is like Drew was in there. He went
Speaker 26990.14s - 6992.2s
open the door. They blew up.
Speaker 06992.28s - 6993.84s
He said, can I fish in here? And the lock,
Speaker 26993.84s - 6996.26s
I said, absolutely not. He can't fish.
Speaker 06996.38s - 6998.9s
And he went. Yeah, same one.
Speaker 26999.08s - 7001.16s
And it was a different lock guy, but the different
Speaker 07001.16s - 7003.98s
lock guy came and you can, you can fish it. So like,
Speaker 27004.82s - 7005.08s
um, Trey PERSON did nothing wrong. can fish it. So like, um,
Speaker 07005.88s - 7010.26s
Trey PERSON did nothing wrong. If he got permission from the, the, there was no signs.
Speaker 27010.26s - 7014.94s
There's no signs and you can fish in there, but like, that just should be, that's going to be
Speaker 07014.94s - 7029.66s
one of those ones where, all right, we're going to rule there. You're not allowed to fish in any locks because I could see it where I was like, imagine if 10 of us found it and 10 of us tried to like, like, like fish in that lock and just be a mess. Like that should have, that should have been a rule from the start.
Speaker 27030.26s - 7032.92s
So we can fix that one right now.
Speaker 07033.16s - 7033.42s
Yeah.
Speaker 27033.58s - 7034.74s
Just you can't fish in locks.
Speaker 07034.74s - 7035.4s
No, fishing in locks.
Speaker 27035.64s - 7036.54s
No, it's fixed.
Speaker 07036.7s - 7037.02s
Okay.
Speaker 27037.16s - 7037.32s
Yeah.
Speaker 07037.94s - 7040.86s
And there's confusion around that because a lot of people will.
Speaker 27042.02s - 7054.04s
And trust me, the only reason I know about some of this stuff is because I've obviously heard it from you guys from everybody, but people will. And trust me, the only reason I know about some of this stuff is because I've obviously heard it from you guys from everybody, but people will compare it to a core lock. Well, a core lock, you know what I mean?
Speaker 07054.04s - 7057.98s
Like in the Tennessee River LOC, that is run by the core.
Speaker 27058.14s - 7064.06s
We are secondary, but these locks in Florida GPE, I mean, are owned by construction companies.
Speaker 37064.18s - 7066.3s
They're owned by a lot of different private things.
Speaker 27067.04s - 7071.98s
But I think that's how, okay, we want to get ready to gray. You can't fish in locks anymore.
Speaker 37072.18s - 7072.3s
Yeah.
Speaker 27074.22s - 7078.06s
This is what I don't like and this keeps happening.
Speaker 07078.06s - 7081.68s
And I'm sure it can, it's always going to happen.
Speaker 27081.86s - 7087.24s
But I don't like when like I think you can't fish in there or I think you can't do that
Speaker 07087.24s - 7091.32s
but someone else thinks you can and then they're allowed to do it.
Speaker 27091.46s - 7095.32s
Like that's that gray area where I'm like, oh, I didn't know you're allowed to do that.
Speaker 37095.44s - 7096.54s
Like that should have been.
Speaker 07097.04s - 7098.68s
But why does you think you couldn't?
Speaker 27099.52s - 7104.08s
I've just always thought like there's no way you can turn around and block traffic in there
Speaker 07104.08s - 7109.96s
and like you know what I mean? Like imagine if 10 of of us 15 of us all found them and we all just parked at
Speaker 37109.96s - 7116.78s
the front the guy would be like get out of the way and yeah so it's got and then you know the thing
Speaker 07116.78s - 7135.86s
has got a stop of like yeah the got one guy might let you fish there that's the thing I think happened in Louisiana like one guy let let him in his in the private area and the same guy's like, no, you can't come in here. Like you got, you can't. And they stop that by saying like you can't go into any private waters or whatever. Because that happened,
Speaker 17135.86s - 7141.52s
that happened a few times, I think down in the scene where someone could let you fish their dock and,
Speaker 37141.52s - 7145.94s
you know, their little private like marina, like, you go to go in there
Speaker 17145.94s - 7147.34s
and they're like, no, you can't come in here.
Speaker 37147.58s - 7149.5s
But so I think that's a-
Speaker 07149.5s - 7151.94s
And what makes Louisiana GPE different is the fact that you can own water.
Speaker 27152.98s - 7153.14s
Yeah.
Speaker 07153.26s - 7164.32s
You know what I mean? That's what makes it stand out from all the other states. Like you, so you literally can be like, yeah, see this lake? Nanny is there allowed in here except for my buddy this guy? Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 27164.38s - 7166.1s
So I agree with that.
Speaker 37166.34s - 7171.98s
I think that the lock situation with Trey PERSON, he didn't break any rules.
Speaker 27172.14s - 7173.88s
He broke the rules that people thought.
Speaker 07174.44s - 7179.42s
You know, a lot of anglers thought you're not allowed to. But in that situation, there's no saying that you're not allowed to.
Speaker 27179.5s - 7193.68s
But I think ultimately, if we're getting ready, gray, you're not allowed to fish locks anymore. But I think that I equate that rule very similar to a lot of rules that come along. Like it's not a rule until it gets broken.
Speaker 07194.06s - 7195.38s
Every rule in the book.
Speaker 27195.5s - 7208.56s
I mean, if there wasn't for Dick Garlock who decided to go scuba diving in the Thousand Islands LOC, nobody ever thought we should put a rule in that said you can't scuba diving in the thousand islands. Nobody ever thought we should put a rule in that said you can't scuba dive.
Speaker 37208.7s - 7212.86s
I mean, but then some dude did it. Yeah. Yeah. That's what happens. Everything.
Speaker 27213.16s - 7225.08s
Like every single rule in the Bassmaster rule sheet, I mean, Trip ORG would never admit them all to me. But I mean, in times, he'd be like, yeah, well, that rule was so-and-so's rule. Like, it gets a lot of them. Yeah, there's a lot of them. I mean, some people he'd be like, yeah, well, that rule was so-and-so's rule. There's a lot of them.
Speaker 07225.44s - 7263.7s
Yeah, there's a lot of them. I mean, some people have more than others. Yeah, we know that for sure. And I feel like for Trey, like I think that's one where Bass PERSON could have said, because I don't know the story. I don't know.I haven't asked anyone. And they could have said, hey, this was our screw up. And this is where this isn't on Trey. Tray asked us and we said you could fish in there. So we need to, we just take the heat off Trey PERSON. If he didn't do anything wrong, there shouldn't be any heat on him. It's, it's got to be come back the other way, like just to protect him a little bit too. I know I work for bass and I
Speaker 27263.7s - 7286.96s
know I'm going to say this and right away people are going to be like, well, he's just saying that because he works for bass. I swear to you, I'm not. But it's like intent. You don't know. So, but to play devil's advocate, what should be thrown on bass?Like they were at, he called and asked, can I fish the locks? Yeah. Is there any signs? Are you allowed? Have you asked? Yes. They said yes and there's no signs. So there's nowhere? Are you a lot? Have you asked? Yes.They said yes and there's no signs.
Speaker 07287.04s - 7291.86s
So there's nowhere in our rules that says what he did was illegal. Yeah.
Speaker 27291.96s - 7295.98s
What he did is think of something that nobody had thought of.
Speaker 07296.12s - 7301.24s
Yeah. Because we're so used to being on Tennessee River LOC where you obviously can't fish in the locks.
Speaker 27301.46s - 7305.98s
You know, it's, um, Brandon PERSON had a good one a few years ago
Speaker 07305.98s - 7308.74s
because I sort of said something that happened similar to that.
Speaker 27309.04s - 7312.34s
And I said they have to tell everyone when someone asks
Speaker 07312.34s - 7339.14s
and you'll have a good opinion on this. So like say Trey asked Bass PERSON and said, can I fish in there? And they said, yeah, is there any signs? Do you think Bass PERSON should have said, hey, everyone, you're allowed to fish that lock?So we all knew, or should is Trey PERSON rewarded for like finding something sneaky that no one else thought of that he was, you can't expose his deal that he found?
Speaker 27339.34s - 7340.8s
Like, should, you know what it means?
Speaker 07340.8s - 7346.52s
If I, if I found out 10 years ago that that Gussie and the Johnsons PERSON were catching them,
Speaker 27346.98s - 7363.1s
I mean, I actually did find out about it, but shows how bad I am in Anglia GPE, never took advantage of it. But if you found out, if you were the first guy to find out that Maribu PRODUCT makes smallmouth go nuts, like do we need to even, I mean, you guys benefit from that little sneaky bit of information
Speaker 37363.1s - 7369.96s
every day, whether it be a bait, an approach, like everything that happens.
Speaker 07370.2s - 7374.18s
I mean, somebody was the first dude who figured out how to catch him on forward
Speaker 37374.18s - 7375.02s
face and sonar.
Speaker 07375.38s - 7378.02s
I mean, that's where I think it's weird.
Speaker 27378.14s - 7388s
Like, I think if Bass PERSON didn't care and Bass just wanted to remove any opportunity that they would take the blame,
Speaker 07388.16s - 7391.84s
that's the easiest way to do it. Yeah. So-and-so asked about this and we cleared it.
Speaker 37391.84s - 7396.54s
But I don't know if as a competitor, if I feel right about that. Like, I mean,
Speaker 07396.54s - 7399.3s
Brandon won a tournament running all the way out to Lake Ontario LOC.
Speaker 27399.8s - 7403.96s
Yes, what he said. Like, they weren't thinking of that. He doesn't want Bass PERSON telling everyone,
Speaker 37404.12s - 7411.48s
hey, you can run to the islands out there. they're like real okay so like but i think if it skirts the ruling line
Speaker 07411.48s - 7418.34s
is this a rule i think bash should say hey because they do do it they say hey you can hey everyone
Speaker 27418.34s - 7424.14s
we're seeing people run this area you're not allowed to run that or you can they'll put it
Speaker 07424.14s - 7425.26s
mass text out.
Speaker 27425.8s - 7432.24s
And I think if someone's like sort of working in that around the rule, just like in a round
Speaker 07432.24s - 7436.84s
where like, is this allowed or not, then maybe they need to tell everyone. Okay.
Speaker 27437.4s - 7440.2s
But I still think he goes back to what rules he's skirting around.
Speaker 07440.64s - 7501.98s
Like, yeah. I know. Yeah. Because like what? Yeah. I, that's one of those things where like I didn't know that you,so it's hard because I didn't think you're allowed to fish that, but you were. So why did I think that you're not allowed to fish that? I've been through that lot 150 times like back and forward. Like I didn't think you're allowed to fish in there but that's my that's probably my bad like i should have done more research and like it's crazy that like you got to think outside the box that they're in there and he got the he got he's seen him blowing up and like they're in here and that that's what happens to all of us that somewhere where that makes youclue in and find a spot but i think i guess bass has probably got a look at it when tray PERSON rings and say is this going to be weird that's just that's that's a hard one that that one's just tough but i think yeah you can't have 10 of us fishing that lock so that has to be a row like you can't have 10 people
Speaker 17501.98s - 7509.02s
pulling up out the front blocking a lock so and the moment it becomes a deal, it gets shut down.
Speaker 27509.3s - 7509.88s
You know what I mean?
Speaker 17509.96s - 7513.88s
Like, and then not by bass, but what I mean is if, like, I've heard people.
Speaker 27514.98s - 7516.44s
And again, this is just hearsay.
Speaker 07516.44s - 7519.74s
I don't know if any of this is fact, but I've heard there was anglers that
Speaker 27519.74s - 7524.3s
contacted the boss of the guy who said that he could.
Speaker 07524.72s - 7526.46s
And the boss said, no, you can't fish locks.
Speaker 37526.66s - 7531.68s
So that's, well, yeah, because if I was that dude's boss and as soon, there's anglers,
Speaker 07532.06s - 7533.96s
why are anglers calling me asking me?
Speaker 27534.1s - 7535.08s
No, it's not legal.
Speaker 07535.2s - 7536.2s
You can't, you know what I mean?
Speaker 37536.2s - 7538.02s
Like it's, it.
Speaker 07538.82s - 7542.18s
So I think, I mean, if we're trying to fix everything.
Speaker 37543.7s - 7544.48s
Next rule.
Speaker 07544.78s - 7547s
Next rule is just you can't fish in locks.
Speaker 37547.16s - 7548.36s
I mean, it's pretty simple.
Speaker 27551.96s - 7553.32s
Okay, what else are we going to?
Speaker 07553.7s - 7555.72s
What else is everyone mad at?
Speaker 27556.44s - 7559.72s
Trey McKinney PERSON running the...
Speaker 07559.72s - 7562.24s
Oh, God, we're going to go through everything.
Speaker 27562.68s - 7563.58s
Trace PERSON getting that.
Speaker 07563.84s - 7565.54s
Tell me what people are upset about.
Speaker 27565.78s - 7573.4s
I mean, okay. That's a good. Yeah, this is a good one. I have to stick up for a few people here.
Speaker 07573.4s - 7578.72s
And one of them, they're both got a hard time on this, G-Man and Trey PERSON. Yeah.
Speaker 27579.6s - 7579.92s
Okay.
Speaker 07580.46s - 7585.38s
The only thing Trey PERSON did wrong was he didn't listen to the rules meeting.
Speaker 27585.54s - 7587.2s
That's the only thing that got me.
Speaker 07587.34s - 7693.7s
When he said I skirted over the rules meeting, I got my back up a little bit. I'm like, dude, I'm fighting for my family here. We've put a lot of money on the line. Read the rules meeting. Like, listen to them. That's a great lesson for a young kid. Like, he's getting a hard time. But he's 19 and he's going to learn some bloody hard lessons. And he's learning him fast and hard, which is unfortunate, but it will forge him into, I think, a better person. At 19, you need some hard love, hard, like, he's going to get this heat because he's dominating, he's young, he's doing well, this is going to be a part of it, and it's how he's going to deal with it. And what happened with, I seen, and even you were saying, like, I don't know about,a lot of people said, like, put that video out the own this was this what happened with g man and tray PERSON happens every single tournament there's this is zero problem someone always put someone in he was speeding the guy gets a penalty so much so that the next day the exact thing happened. Angler PERSON ran the bridge. A guy saw him. He put him in. That is not spoken about. And it just got washed away, which is what should have happened with Trey and Gman PERSON. But it was put out on live and Gman got a lot of heat for it. And he had to defend himself. You cannot blame him for that. He's going to have his fan base that's going to give Trey PERSON a hard time. And Trey's going to have his fan base that is going to give G PERSON a hard time. G man, hard time.
Speaker 27693.82s - 7699.2s
But at the end of the day, Gerald did nothing wrong. He did exactly what he was supposed to do.
Speaker 07700.02s - 7749.28s
Trey PERSON needs to learn that. He had to learn the hard lesson of one, don't skirt over the rules meeting, dude. Listen to them and make sure you read them. And two, running a bridge, like I've seen a lot of people say, that's a long time for him to get. If you are trying to beat someone to a spot, I'll give you a scenario.Garcy's trying to run to a spot on the St. John's River FAC. He only has one really good shell bar. A guy beat him to it. That guy is in 22nd, whatever it was. Gussie PERSON didn't get there. He's in 94th.Gussie was in 90th, whatever. If Gussie PERSON, if that guy ran a no way to beat Gussie there, he'll take an hour and a half penalty all day, 45 minutes all day. That's nothing.
Speaker 37749.46s - 7751.1s
I'll tell you that to get there.
Speaker 17751.4s - 7752.7s
That's a bad penalty.
Speaker 07752.7s - 7798.86s
When you're running and you're trying to beat someone to a spot, I had an angler do it to me in a no way and just idle past me. And I'm like, dude, you can't do that. If you beat me to that 10-pounder, that is detrimental to my whole year. I beat you here. I've got a better number. You can't pass me in this, no way. That's not set for a 45-minute penalty. You should be, if you didn't read therules and you intentionally, whatever, ran a thing, I think you could be up to your catchers dequeed for that day. That's how big of an advantage it is to run a no wake. All of those no wake through Harris PERSON chain and all of those things. If you just ran the whole thingand beat everyone to the lock, I'll take 45 minutes to beat everyone.
Speaker 17799.16s - 7801.32s
Like that's huge. So if you run that,
Speaker 07802.32s - 7856.1s
then that needs to be, there needs to be a ruling of intent. And so that's where I think you can have a thing like, did you accidentally run it and you didn't know and it was the middle of the day? Or were you trying to get back and you were running late and you ran the no way or you were trying to beat someone to a spot. There's a defined area there. But a story that I just want to say that reminds me a little bit of tradeand what happened with GMM is when I was like 18, I was so passionate about fishing. I wanted to win. And I didn't like a lot of the old guys. They gave me a lot of heat and they were like, he hasn't been fishing that long. The whole thing, I've fished way longer. And I used to think, I spent more time on the water than you. You were like the old dudes because I was spending three, four days during school. I was learning the new techniques.
Speaker 37856.4s - 7858.5s
And they used to give me crap for it.
Speaker 07859.06s - 7868.08s
And so I had that same animosity towards some of the old guys, but the old guys are the ones that, one, forged the way for the sport.
Speaker 37868.5s - 7871.64s
Two, had taught me half the techniques that I knew.
Speaker 07872.76s - 7990.28s
And so I had a mentor, John Schofield PERSON, and he was like, he's a legend in Australia GPE. I was just so lucky that he took me under his wing. I listened to him and I just, whatever words he spoke, dude, it was like the guy. I was listening to him. I wanted to make himproud. And I was so competitive that when it was like, must have been about 17 or 18, I came seventh in this tournament. And I had my head down. They called my name and I walked up and I got the check and I was pissed off. I didn't like I don't like losing. But there's 50 of the best guys, dude. I come seven and I was mad and I walked back. And I showed a bad side of sportsmanship and myself because I don't like losing.I still fight that now to every day. And he rang me that like two nights later. And dude, he made me cry. Like he did not hold back. He just like, and this is the person that means the most to me. And he just told me what I was doing and that it was not good. And he did, he just, he gave me a lot of hard love. And I was like, I couldn't believe that I'd done that. But like, I never forget that to this day. And it helped me big time because he could have just let it go. And I could have been like a spoiled little brat and being mad all the time because I didn't win or I wasn't in the top two but like that hard love from a guy that had been in the sport and seen it,he doesn't, he didn't want to say that to me and he knew it was going to hurt me and hurt my feelings, but it was the best thing that ever happened to me. So like, Tray is getting some hard lessons, but you have to have respect for the guys that have forged
Speaker 17990.28s - 7995.82s
the way to hear. You have to know that the history of the sport and the things that the
Speaker 07995.82s - 8071s
reason you get this opportunity here is because of guys that went through the trenches and got it to hear up. And you have to make sure that like you you show that that means a lot to me i think i i it costs me a lot to gain the respect of a lot of these guys and that part of it means everything and i want that for tray PERSON when he wins when he wins if he wins dangle of the air he wins a tournament i want people to congratulate him and to look him and being young like that, sometimes he just needs someone to tell him that that is an important thing. It's not justabout you winning everything and what you can get. You should want people to want you to win. And he's just young. I think he's a good kid at heart. And he came up to me and asked me and he's like, I know you're friends with G man, but he's's like he caught me at a bad time and i said it's going to be uncomfortable dude but you're going to have to go up to g man PERSON and look him in the eyes and shake his hand and that would fix a lot of stuff and say i shouldn't have said that to you and i'm sorry dude that would fix everything and it would be done. And at the same time, if it wasn't brought up on Bassmaster ORG, I don't think that should
Speaker 18071s - 8071.76s
ever get mentioned.
Speaker 38071.88s - 8074.66s
It was mentioned that G man put Trey PERSON in.
Speaker 18075.26s - 8081.46s
That put G man under a lot of pressure and he had to read the comments and, and defend
Speaker 08081.46s - 8081.86s
himself.
Speaker 38082.02s - 8086.9s
And Trey PERSON had to do too because he had to like look at the comments from the other side.
Speaker 08086.9s - 8086.96s
Both of them.
Speaker 28087.12s - 8097.5s
You go to either of their posts and they're both getting hammered. They both got hammered and like that shouldn't have happened. It should have, that's almost one that should have just been dealt with in the tournament.
Speaker 08097.82s - 8103.62s
And it's done. Like, because the same thing happened the next day and nothing happened.
Speaker 28104.62s - 8108.64s
The biggest difference in it all is it became public on all of it.
Speaker 38108.98s - 8109.08s
Yeah.
Speaker 08109.2s - 8115.26s
Because, you know, your analogy, when you got the call, that's the big difference.
Speaker 38115.26s - 8117.66s
Your call happened at a private time.
Speaker 08118.54s - 8118.62s
Yeah.
Speaker 28119.14s - 8127.84s
The public of it, like, I don't know why it got mentioned on Bass PERSON or who mentioned it. I mean, but I just knew it was out there.
Speaker 08128.68s - 8139.54s
And why it wouldn't have been mentioned the next day, I don't understand that. And I also think that Trey's 19 years old.
Speaker 38139.98s - 8144.86s
Yeah. You know, I think that's what people forget. Like, I'm going to tell you a 19 year old version of me.
Speaker 08145.28s - 8146.14s
Yeah, we're going to do some.
Speaker 28146.14s - 8149.02s
It has a much different response to Gerald.
Speaker 08149.4s - 8151.96s
And trust me, I'm 19 year old version of me.
Speaker 28152.12s - 8154.66s
Love Gerald Swindle and loves Gerald Swindle to this day.
Speaker 38155.46s - 8162.74s
But I just think that there's some of that that's going to happen.
Speaker 28162.9s - 8163.64s
You know what I mean?
Speaker 08163.72s - 8166.06s
Like everybody's going to look at things differently.
Speaker 38166.36s - 8167.46s
I don't know why.
Speaker 08167.46s - 8171.56s
And I had actually heard, again, everything I say is officially unofficial.
Speaker 28171.82s - 8185.9s
Nobody in the tournament department told me this was better at my job. I would have asked them and got a real answer. But I'd heard the reason he got an hour and a half was because an hour was for the violation and 30 minutes was for not watching the video
Speaker 08185.9s - 8188.62s
the meeting video or vice versa.
Speaker 38189.12s - 8189.22s
Yeah.
Speaker 08189.38s - 8191.8s
It was 45 each.
Speaker 28191.88s - 8192.66s
45 and 45.
Speaker 08193.16s - 8193.58s
Okay.
Speaker 38194.08s - 8199.44s
So which is a problem that anglers, I mean, he's not the only one not watching meetings.
Speaker 08199.44s - 8203.24s
I watched an angler last year that was the first boat to leave the dock.
Speaker 38203.4s - 8206.22s
And I watched Lisa PERSON walk up to said angler.
Speaker 08206.8s - 8219.3s
I'm not going to say his name, but it made me laugh a lot and say, do you know what your special takeoff instructions are? And he was the first boat out on day one. And he's like, yeah, go that way.
Speaker 28220.34s - 8221.96s
And she said, no, there was special instructions.
Speaker 08222.68s - 8231.08s
I mean, it's not just to trick you. That's right. I remember she did that. She said that. I'm going to hold you accountable that you listen to this meeting.
Speaker 28231.34s - 8245.9s
And maybe that's what they need to do. And made said Angler PERSON sit and watch the meeting before they went anywhere. And I thought it was. But I mean, here's what I'm going to tell to all you, Angler PERSON, start watching the damn meetings because nobody wants to go back to real in-person meetings.
Speaker 08245.9s - 8249.22s
I mean, we like it the way it is. So start watching the meetings.
Speaker 28249.74s - 8256.2s
But I also think that some of the things that are coming out about Trey PERSON, not watching a meeting. And, dude,
Speaker 08256.56s - 8263.5s
there's a reason that it's so amazing that he's 19 years old and doing what he's doing because it's a lot to handle.
Speaker 28263.76s - 8264.12s
You know what I mean?
Speaker 08264.16s - 8265.64s
There's a lot of pieces that are
Speaker 28265.64s - 8271.28s
coming at you and you got to get you you got to get your fishing license is it this date you got to get
Speaker 08271.28s - 8277.48s
you you've you've you've got a million and one things yeah and he's he's unfortunately learning
Speaker 28277.48s - 8283.7s
some some hard lessons but he's also kicking butt too so like it's it's it looks it looks bad
Speaker 08283.7s - 8309.24s
because it looks like everyone's bitter and stuff like that and I'm sure there's plenty of that. But like at the same time, like if he's going to win and he's and he's going to dominate like it sucks that there's he's got that around him a little bit. And he's just going to have to like fight his way through that and explain it and try and make sure that he writes, you know, what's going on, like watching the meeting.Yeah.
Speaker 28309.4s - 8322.14s
No, I mean, there's reasons you need to do that. I mean, you're a professional. You're, I mean, there's safety reasons. There's many, many reasons around it. And I think that's a bad situation for them both.
Speaker 08322.14s - 8330.86s
Like, I just think that the way that it became a public thing, the way that Gerald felt like he had to make a video to defend himself. And I'm not judging either of them,
Speaker 28330.9s - 8333.26s
but I just think that nobody wins.
Speaker 38333.42s - 8336.72s
There's going to be people for the rest of Trey McKinney's PERSON career
Speaker 28336.72s - 8344.12s
that will dislike him because of that video. That's the kind of social clout that Gerald Swindle PERSON has.
Speaker 38344.3s - 8345.64s
I mean, there's no part of me to that Gerald Swindle PERSON has. I mean, and
Speaker 08345.64s - 8352.04s
there's no part of me to say Gerald made that video to make this happen, but that's just the reality. And
Speaker 28352.04s - 8353.4s
there's going to be people
Speaker 08353.4s - 8355.94s
and Trey PERSON's got a lot of vocal
Speaker 28355.94s - 8361.64s
fans that no matter what she does forever is always going to look at him under a certain light. Yeah.
Speaker 08363.36s - 8364.24s
Ultimately, they're not
Speaker 28364.24s - 8368.2s
those people you just can't listen to and they're not in the arena.
Speaker 08368.2s - 8369.42s
They're not competing.
Speaker 38369.66s - 8370.68s
They don't know what it's like.
Speaker 08370.84s - 8386.26s
But yeah, they're saying stuff online. But yeah, at the end of the day, that should have just been a matter that was dealt on the water. Trey PERSON got what he needed with running and that. And then it's all over. And then the day after the exact same
Speaker 28386.26s - 8392.46s
thing happened and nobody talked about it you don't even know who it was i'd never heard about it
Speaker 08392.46s - 8398.52s
until you mentioned it like until we were having our the exact same hour and a half pre-show very next
Speaker 28398.52s - 8409.2s
day the identical the guy got 45 minutes and the guy put him in just like what g man PERSON had to do so that's just
Speaker 08409.2s - 8417.64s
probably yeah that's probably just an unfortunate um you know situation but like hey i like that g man
Speaker 28417.64s - 8421.86s
and people are holding people accountable i want them i want them to do that and i think it's
Speaker 08421.86s - 8425.42s
good for tray PERSON to like do that's not a wash under the rug.
Speaker 28425.42s - 8431.12s
Like you, you're going to, when you do something like at 19, it's going to suck and it's
Speaker 08431.12s - 8479.66s
going to hurt. But like, I think that you need to have those people that are going to hold you accountable when you're just sort of like trying to get stuff done. You're like, I've got to sharpen up on that and be better. And that'll only help him. It's just, it sucks that it got a bit nasty and itshould never get to that it's just fishing at the end of the day we're doing all doing something that we love and the rookies have a lot of passion they love fishing and we should like look at a lot of the good things that that the young anglers are coming up and enjoying it and loving it but like I feel bad for them right now because they are ringing. Like Chris PERSON said, I think on his podcast, like a rookie crane him said, is it always like this? Like he's like, no, this is kind of the worst that it's been. But I would say this.
Speaker 28479.78s - 8497.34s
I think if you do what Trey McKinney PERSON's doing as far as competition was like dude you don't think Kevin Van Damme PERSON you don't think people disliked you know what I mean like that's yeah and I think that that's also part of whether it's rightfully or wrongfully so that's part of can the competitive
Speaker 08497.34s - 8598.94s
environment like there's going to be like yeah was everyone super welcoming to you yeah they make you earn your spot? Like, again, right or wrong? That's... I said that to Trey PERSON when he asks me, what do you do with G-Man? And I said, you just, you do, if you want to write the shit with him, you're going to have to go and shake his hand. So it didn't make, like, you caught me at a bad time, whatever you're going to say, but it's going to, it's not going to be comfortable. But that's what, that's what, like, guys like, gee, they're not going to take a phone call. They're not going to listen to. They're going to have to come up and shake his hand and be uncomfortable face to face like a man. That's what we needto teach people that. That's what it takes to do things in real life, look someone in the eye and say, like, I was wrong. I shouldn't have done that or vice versa, whatever it is. But, you know, there's. But Trey did call G PERSON, right? Yeah, he called him, I think, and just left the message. But, like, and I knew that. And he said that, and I said, that ain't going to cut it.And he was like, what do you mean? I said, you're going to have to, it's going to be uncomfortable. You're going to have to go and shake his hand if you want to write it. And we do teach that a little bit in this this day and age like you just this like that's the easier route to go whatever but like I think we should the old school guys are going to teach you no you shake my handlook me in the eye and let's have a conversation that's what gerald PERSON did to him to say like hey dude you ran that bridge so you sort of got to like you got to it that's what gerald did to him to say like hey dude you ran that ridge so you sort of got to like you got to that's all taught things and some people have people that teach them and some people don't and if you don't like some then you then you learn the you learn the less than the hard way which is dealing
Speaker 28598.94s - 8607.16s
with g man well i'm going to have them both on next week's podcast we'll have a sit down between the both of them
Speaker 38607.16s - 8615.42s
and maybe we can fix it um yeah gman has just such a good heart and he's passionate and what's cool
Speaker 28615.42s - 8623.38s
about and both of them do and dude what i keep thinking about is like everyone's super passionate
Speaker 08623.38s - 8628.64s
about this sport that's why there's so much like, they're just like, we love it.
Speaker 28628.76s - 8629.9s
Yeah, it's the good part.
Speaker 38630.02s - 8636.86s
We're like, and like, yeah, we're getting like, we're getting our butts squawk by the young guys on Ford Face and Sona PRODUCT.
Speaker 08636.86s - 8640.76s
I'm like, it's freaking don't like the old guys stop.
Speaker 38640.82s - 8644.58s
I said to all of them, I said, you guys kicked my teeth in, dude.
Speaker 08644.66s - 8693.74s
I was on the ground begging for mercy and you were like no just stomp me out like in 2015 16 i'm like where's that fight i wish you's like where is that now like you guys crush me and i had to go like i'm going to quit and go home or i'm going to choose to dig deep, learn more, get better, spend more time in the water, do what I have to do to compete and that's how I got here. And the older guys are sort of getting that back right now and it's time for them to like bite down on the mouthpiece and say, all right, let's let's go. We can play at this game too. We know everything about bass fishing plus plus we can do that, or whatever it is, or you get it banned, and we just go back to bass fishing again.
Speaker 28694.92s - 8707.66s
Well, I mean, and I don't think it's as simple as just forward-faced and sonar. I mean, I mean, that's just my opinion. But if it was, why is Kyoya in 50th for anglo the year if it was why is
Speaker 08707.66s - 8715.84s
joy so Fuentes PERSON in well everyone caught up that's what happened yeah like they had it to
Speaker 28715.84s - 8722.66s
themselves for a little bit and it was real fun for a lot of guys for quite a few years and then
Speaker 08722.66s - 8732.98s
so many people caught up that you can't have 30 winners. Like there's literally, there's 40 guys that are like forward-faced and sonar freaks. But like,
Speaker 18733.02s - 8736.12s
that'll be the level playing field for it.
Speaker 38736.16s - 8736.84s
If they don't,
Speaker 18736.94s - 8742.78s
if it doesn't get banned and it keeps going, it'll just get to where like everyone will sort of almost
Speaker 08742.78s - 8751.76s
cannibalize each other with it. And it'll go back to how like everyone will sort of almost cannibalize each other with it and it'll go back to how like old school fishing was and the other fishing will get better and that'll get tougher
Speaker 28751.76s - 8758.94s
because because it's a technique or because it's technology it seems different but if you look
Speaker 08758.94s - 8767.58s
at the history of the sport when Aaron Martins PERSON was the only one throwing a drop shot he whooped on people and then they all kind of caught up.
Speaker 28767.84s - 8768.28s
You know what I mean?
Speaker 08768.36s - 8775.16s
Like it's what's happened when the northern guys were the only ones who really focused on smallmouth bass.
Speaker 38775.4s - 8777.34s
They had such a huge advantage.
Speaker 08778.04s - 8783.22s
And now that's kind of caught up. Which brings up our last.
Speaker 28784.22s - 8790.92s
So how are, what was our, watch the meetings. That's how we, that's how we fix that one. Yeah,
Speaker 08791.02s - 8792.88s
watch the meetings and we'll get along.
Speaker 38793.6s - 8793.86s
Yeah,
Speaker 08793.98s - 8796.48s
or else she's coming at you and it'll be uncomfortable.
Speaker 28797.88s - 8797.9s
Um,
Speaker 38798.7s - 8799.26s
um,
Speaker 28799.26s - 8809.1s
the big one, forward face and sonar. It's, um, like you said at the beginning, it is everybody's right.
Speaker 38809.6s - 8812.02s
And I think that no matter what the call is,
Speaker 08814.06s - 8816.46s
somebody's going to be pissed, no matter what they do.
Speaker 28817.38s - 8836.1s
And I swear to you as somebody who works with Bass and not that I'm part of that committee or anything, but the vibe that I get is, there's part of me that if a genie in a bottle came out and said, guess what, it's next year it's illegal in tournaments.I'm not shocked.
Speaker 08837.2s - 8839.68s
There's another part of me that's like next year,
Speaker 28840s - 8851.3s
it's limited to the number of units you can put on and that sort of stuff. Not shocked. Kind of shocked if it's just status quo.
Speaker 08851.76s - 8855.12s
Again, these are just my opinions. Yep.
Speaker 28856.56s - 8862.78s
And not shocked at all if it's limited to like certain amount of events or a certain amount of time you can use it.
Speaker 38864.48s - 8868.24s
So what is your, what do you want to see in your heart?
Speaker 08868.34s - 8869.24s
What would you want to see?
Speaker 38872.4s - 8875.84s
I don't have, dude, I really don't like, because you know what I mean?
Speaker 08875.84s - 8878.8s
Like I fell in love with bass fishing before forward facing sonar.
Speaker 28878.96s - 8881.78s
So the safe answer is making it illegal and.
Speaker 08882.08s - 8882.48s
Yeah.
Speaker 38883.22s - 8884.92s
I love watching a meet a frog.
Speaker 28885.94s - 8906.56s
I love all that, like all of of us like and that's the truth even the rookies. They fell in love with the sport of bass fishing before they were ever looking at them on a graph like it's not a graph that made them so that's the safe answer.Make it illegal. It does make the sport a little more boring at times depending on how you look at it. But I've also had people say, I love it.
Speaker 08906.66s - 8909.82s
Like they're obsessed with watching it. There is people that like it.
Speaker 28910.12s - 8957.94s
And they're the people we hear from the least because they're not being threatened right now. The people that feel threatened are like, I don't want this. So you hear, they're obviously the vocal. And I think if tomorrow, if Bass PERSON said it's gone, there'd be a whole new group that would get real vocal. And that's the ones that are for it.How I honestly think it all goes to, I mean, what I want, I don't know. I don't know. I want bass fishing to be what it's always been, what I love. But I also love what we'relearning from it. You know what I mean? But is it needed? I don't know. I mean, I think where it ends up next year, my honest opinion is it'll be limited. Whether that is time, whether that is tournaments, whether that is transjaces. I think that's going to that.
Speaker 38957.94s - 8958.26s
Yeah.
Speaker 08959.26s - 8960.2s
You would think.
Speaker 38960.36s - 8964.1s
I mean, it's people's, people's bolts have turned into science project.
Speaker 08964.46s - 8964.7s
Yeah.
Speaker 38966.24s - 8974.34s
But I, I, and I, you know, I was kind of, I love the whole, I hated it when I first heard it.
Speaker 08974.42s - 8978.22s
But the European Power Hour EVENT approach, I hate that whole thought.
Speaker 38978.82s - 8978.98s
Yeah.
Speaker 28979.08s - 8983.18s
Then there's part of me that like as a fishing fan, I want to see.
Speaker 38983.52s - 8984.92s
Goa GPE you do other things.
Speaker 28984.92s - 8985.22s
I want to see do other things.
Speaker 08988.1s - 8988.36s
I want to see people be challenged.
Speaker 38989.16s - 8989.78s
And like, so there was,
Speaker 28990.82s - 8991.16s
you know,
Speaker 38991.2s - 8992.16s
that whole side of it
Speaker 28992.16s - 9015.56s
where if like from seven to one, it's traditional fishing. And then at one o'clock at the same time for everybody, like it's not a choice thing. It's like at one o'clock to three o'clock, you can do whatever you want. And I like that from a TV show element of it from a competitive side, I like that feeling of like all of a sudden, now it's like a reset. Like all day I've
Speaker 39015.56s - 9023.2s
watched Jason Christie hammer him traditionally. And I'm a huge Christy PERSON fan. And now
Speaker 29023.2s - 9029.56s
I get to see if Koya PERSON can catch him because we know he can do damage in 45. You take Toledo Bend GPE as an example.
Speaker 39030.16s - 9031.14s
He could do it quick.
Speaker 29031.28s - 9032.34s
Well, does he have enough time?
Speaker 39032.44s - 9036.46s
So there's part of me that likes that, but almost everybody I bring that up to says they hate it.
Speaker 09036.6s - 9039.08s
So that's not going to happen by the sounds of things.
Speaker 39039.7s - 9044.56s
I think the most likely is it'll probably get limited to the number.
Speaker 29045.24s - 9047.8s
I think there'll be events with and events without.
Speaker 09048.1s - 9048.58s
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 39048.74s - 9050.76s
As a happy medium to. Yeah.
Speaker 29051.76s - 9090.84s
But to start. I don't. I don't. I mean, there's part of me that I think getting rid of it makes it, I mean,we all love that. It's truth. We all love that. But do you love it as much when you're like, you're the only ones on the lakes not using it? Yeah, that'd be weird. In five years from now, when we have three, five different classes of this year's rookies that have come into the elite series EVENT, does it seem strange? Again, and there's going to be people that will make comments on thisthat will make their feelings be fact, and that's the problem. There's no facts.
Speaker 09090.96s - 9094.52s
It's just feelings. Like where people are like, it has to be this way because this.
Speaker 29095.26s - 9103.04s
I mean, Randy Blockett PERSON will tell you, this is what is happening. But he doesn't know that's his opinion. He never says, I think.
Speaker 09103.3s - 9105.64s
He just says, I'm seen. And it's his thoughts. And that's his opinion. He never says, I think. He just says, I'm seen. And it's
Speaker 29105.64s - 9112.02s
his thoughts. But, and that's not me slamming him because everybody's entitled to their opinion.
Speaker 09113.76s - 9120.3s
But I think none of us really know. Like, it's a weird, very weird time in history. And the scary
Speaker 29120.3s - 9125.48s
thing is the future. Because if you don't like what it is now, I mean, there's people
Speaker 09125.48s - 9130.78s
that one day it'll be AI and there'll be, this is happening in salt water.
Speaker 29130.78s - 9136.76s
In saltwater, you can put a target on a fish and follow said fish. Your boat follows it.
Speaker 09138.12s - 9144.5s
That's, I mean, that to me is not. So yeah, I don't know. So where are you with it? I mean,
Speaker 39144.5s - 9147.68s
I have no, I have just given every possible option I can think of.
Speaker 09147.74s - 9152.76s
I have no answer for this other than, other than the committee is working on it.
Speaker 29153.26s - 9153.5s
Yeah.
Speaker 39154.1s - 9157.62s
No, I know it's people definitely working on something.
Speaker 29158.94s - 9162.82s
Yeah, I just think you've got to take everyone's personal feelings out of it.
Speaker 39162.9s - 9171.52s
You got to take all the competitiveness out of it. You know, a read came out dude i i realized how dominant it was and i'm like man i got to
Speaker 29171.52s - 9178.88s
get on this so i started throwing it and i got really good with it and it was deadly and i knew i'm better
Speaker 09178.88s - 9185.1s
at everyone i know with this thing i throw it you know, where people don't throw it.
Speaker 29185.2s - 9189.36s
And I dominated like I had some of my best finishes.
Speaker 09189.68s - 9214.1s
And I made the elites with the A rig. And then they said, dude, I was like, I'm going to crush them. We're on Gunnersville GPE.We're on this. Like I had all of these tricks up my sleeve. And they said they just out of nowhere, it's banned. And I'm like, I just put three years of time into this thing I know it better than anyone and you just pulled it out from
Speaker 39214.1s - 9220.18s
underneath me and I've got to go and like just do all of this stuff again and you can figure it all
Speaker 09220.18s - 9239.36s
out and I had to deal with that so like taking you got take, I've put this amount of years into it and this and that. That's all that doesn't matter. The number one thing is the future of the sport, the fishery, is it good for the bass? Is it good for our sport? That's got to be at the forefront of all of it.
Speaker 39241.5s - 9269.52s
And I don't know how I do think you can get to that point. like I just I'm I'm at that age where I'm in between I have fought for technology my whole life yeah I love it I love my minkoda I love spotlock I have loved 360 PRODUCT mapping 2D all of it I embrace it every single time and i've had builders say oh look at all those
Speaker 09269.52s - 9275.36s
screens on you and i've argued with them and said do you use a hammer for it to know you know
Speaker 19275.36s - 9280.64s
or do you use a nail gun like go back to using a hammer that's how i used to argue with it and
Speaker 39280.64s - 9287.8s
i fished toledo band and i still was on the fence of Ford Facing ORG,
Speaker 19287.96s - 9291.88s
but I fished Toledo PRODUCT band and I knew they were going to be off the bank and I went all in with
Speaker 09291.88s - 9296.98s
it and I stared at it for three full days of practice and I stared at it for three full days
Speaker 19296.98s - 9301.82s
of the tournament and I made the cut and had my best finish this year still and I caught seven
Speaker 09301.82s - 9347s
pounders and I hooked giants and I just got back to the camper and I was sitting there and Taylor PERSON's like what's wrong with you? Why aren't you happy? And I'm like, I feel real weird right now. And I've never felt like that before in my life. I just had come off a great finish. Dude, making a check for me is like winning. I love it. I just get so fired up because it feels like my work paid back. I just, it's so many cool things to it because I know how hard it is to do it.And I something wasn't right. And that's when I was like, I don't know about this anymore. And because I just, it was, it was different. And I just think that's where, that's's where it got that's where it got me
Speaker 39347s - 9353.92s
where i knew like something has to change yeah i don't know what that is but like just the
Speaker 09353.92s - 9379.18s
the heritage of the sport seeing wildlife nature fish busting birds on the water all the things that what get kids into fishing, that the things that got us all passionate about, I'm worried that we're going to lose them a little bit. And if that's even a part of the case, then I think we have to look at it like super serious.
Speaker 29381s - 9393.76s
Yeah, I mean, feelings and feelings are important. I mean, dude, the feeling is what got you in a plane the feeling is what made you not give up you know what i mean it's yeah and that feeling wasn't
Speaker 09393.76s - 9399.42s
coming from like getting my buttwop it was coming from just fishing and catching them and
Speaker 29399.42s - 9405.02s
having success yeah so what do you do?
Speaker 09405.7s - 9407.2s
I don't know what the answer.
Speaker 29407.36s - 9410.88s
Like I think it's a hard, like I, like I said, nobody's going to be happy.
Speaker 09410.96s - 9412.94s
I don't know what their decision is going to be.
Speaker 29413.24s - 9424.38s
But I will say that I'm happy they didn't rush to make a decision because I think you
Speaker 39424.38s - 9425.68s
have to have some information. I think we have to have some information.
Speaker 29425.88s - 9433.52s
I think we have to have some information. Like it's easy to be like, well, all the lakes are going to be out fish. Well, find me a biologist that tells me that.
Speaker 39433.72s - 9437.5s
And maybe there is out there already saying it.
Speaker 29437.74s - 9442.04s
But I mean, there has to be some real information put into it to make the decision.
Speaker 39443.4s - 9446.08s
This is something that I,
Speaker 09447.88s - 9448.12s
what do you think about this?
Speaker 39449.6s - 9449.64s
I, and you might have spoke about this,
Speaker 29453.46s - 9453.9s
but like it feels like nothing special anymore.
Speaker 09456.84s - 9513.94s
Like everyone got a century belt. Everyone's catching 10 poundsers. Everyone's catching giants like continuously. And it's like I, I again feel for the people that did it but but I'm like it's hard to be special anymore what is what is special what to you is special in fishing because it feels like everyone's doing it and everyone's catching them and it's like hard to like stand out at all for anything like you catch 10 pounder and they're like yeah did youcatch 10 of them like I didn't I caught one it was a fish of a lifetime and you're like yeah but this guy caught 800 last month and you're like do you know what I mean like that's how it feels from a feeling point of view I'm looking at and I'm like I feel bad because guys caught 100 pounds but also 30 of them would have done it if I'm looking at and I'm like, I feel bad because guys caught 100 pounds, but also 30 of them would have done it if they led them at fork. I'm like, that has to be looked at too. That is a sign of it where I'm like,
Speaker 39514.02s - 9517.84s
are we catching every single fish in the lake now? Like,
Speaker 09518.02s - 9523.38s
is what is left up to the imagination? I feel like that,
Speaker 29523.96s - 9526.8s
I mean, I feel like that's generally in everything. I mean,
Speaker 39526.8s - 9531.82s
I look at my other line of work. I mean, I produce a TV show. I mean, the amount of time I
Speaker 29531.82s - 9538s
spend shooting underwater footage, nothing special. It just, I mean, something gets millions of views
Speaker 39538s - 9542.98s
and it's cool, but it's like, feed me another one. And in the past, I use those underwater clips
Speaker 29542.98s - 9550.62s
as a prime example. I'm like, you know, I spend hours and I've got this incredible shot of a fish coming up and eating a jerk bait and its mouth open.
Speaker 09551s - 9553.82s
When I was a kid, dude, that was a freaking commercial.
Speaker 29554.84s - 9558.66s
Like that was all you would see. You would see that and you'd see it. And then there would be some
Speaker 09558.66s - 9566.16s
cool words or some commentary with it. You know, the new whatever bait, go get it. And I would watch that for years.
Speaker 29566.28s - 9571.88s
And that would never get old. But now we live in a world where people just hyper watch.
Speaker 39572.04s - 9575.34s
You know what I mean? So I feel like that. I feel like that.
Speaker 29575.84s - 9578s
I mean, even look at Bass Live PRODUCT, prime example,
Speaker 09578s - 9580.78s
as much as I love Bass Live PRODUCT, I love that it tells the story.
Speaker 39581.18s - 9583.4s
There's a little bit of the specialness missing.
Speaker 29583.8s - 9598.82s
Like when it used to be just one show that was on and I had to work so hard to get it, the fact that I can get live bass fishing so much makes it less special. Yeah. That's why like...
Speaker 39598.82s - 9599.38s
I don't...
Speaker 09599.38s - 9706.3s
I'm good with it either way, whatever way it goes. Bass PERSON has a hard job and this is what they're good at, and I know they can do this, and they can bring this back. And I've spoke to you about this. We have to get back to telling the story. We have to get back to tell them the story of the angler. And I know for a fact that my tournament win on Team Keller ORG was the last time that it happened. I got so lucky. But Bassmaster ORG knows how to create a star. They know how to tell the story. That's why they are better far beyond MLF ORG and every other person that's tried to come inis because they know how to tell a story. They know how to create a star. And that's what they did for a bunch of us in 2019 when the split happened. Lee Liversay was a star overnight, dude. They just knew if when they knew how to get his personality out and get his story. And as much as it is about the fishing, people need to relate to someone. And the way they told my story and brought it out, dude, everyone just still remembers Tenkiller PERSON. They still can watch that show and Tommy and Mark PERSON and you talking about it over and telling all the things that had happened and showing the footage, that made me, that made my career, that made everything. And a lot of us got that, Brandon PERSON got that Van Dam.Like when they won, they capitalised for their entire life. We're like, we've lost that a little bit. One, a little bit because of Ford ORG facing because that's got the main star. And two, I just feel like Bass PERSON needs to say, we've got to get back to telling the story again. Joey's Fentez PERSON. He won two back to two in the same year.I think he did, didn't he? And like, I just don't know if we, got out of that what he should how special that was
Speaker 19706.3s - 9717.58s
and the story and who is this guy and where did he come from and how did he do that it's like you can watch the footage of him catching them small mouth and winning but like that bassmaster
Speaker 09717.58s - 9724.68s
showed dude is everything that's what got me here I just watching fred catch the fish at
Speaker 39724.68s - 9729.12s
murray on the frog i ski fishing the red river
Speaker 19729.12s - 9735.92s
that footage and the overspeak of it and the way the passionate with zona and Tommy PERSON and the people
Speaker 09735.92s - 9765.52s
that spoke about it and you at the way in or when you add it all up it's all of that still it you told they used to tell the story perfectly and you just got like that's my guy that's how I fish that's how I think and that's how you got fans for life and that's how you got people watching where we've sort of just got a little bit live has given us better fishing footage but we've lost the story. I get that.
Speaker 29766.94s - 9804.88s
No, no, I think. What I'm thinking about is I think about my son too because he, I mean, he watches a lot of other mainstream sports, you know, basketball, football, soccer, you know, and I just watch how they watch them. Like the younger generation doesn't even watch a full game very rarely. You know what I mean? They watch the game in 30 minutes. They watch the highlights. And that's kind of what's, it is weird. It is definitely a different time. I still think Bass PERSON tells the story. I just think it's hard to, the story isn't as micro, you know what I mean? Like before you saw every bit of that two-hour show or that one-hour show.
Speaker 39811.7s - 9817.7s
Now your story gets told. They still do packages on guys and tell their story but yeah there's you might not be watching that hour when it when it plays you know yeah but I mean I think telling
Speaker 09817.7s - 9822.78s
the story I mean that's the whole reason bass is what it is I mean that was Jerry McKinnis's
Speaker 29822.78s - 9825.84s
greatest gift to the sport, in my opinion.
Speaker 09826.14s - 9827.72s
Greatest gift. It's the reason
Speaker 39827.72s - 9830.06s
Bass PERSON, when Jerry
Speaker 29830.06s - 9837.92s
was doing the FLW ORG tournaments, you go back and look at them and they were incredible then. And then he started the Bass PERSON thing and that was
Speaker 09837.92s - 9851.02s
the tip. I mean, I think Jerry McKinness PERSON was a huge part of that tipping factor, but Jerry PERSON's always said one thing. Tell the story. Whatever the story is, tell it. And that's where I get all the time when you hear me saying meeting, be who you are,
Speaker 29851.12s - 9863.3s
be real. Like, that's the whole reason this show exists so that you can see that anglers are more than just the dude setting the hook, you know, that the jersey on the back, like looking at the
Speaker 09863.3s - 9868.62s
back of Jersey PRODUCT, there's a story, there's a person, there's a human, there's someone that fought tooth and nail
Speaker 29868.62s - 9874.8s
to get there. Yeah. It has a dream and is just a regular dude that had a job that, you know,
Speaker 09874.9s - 9879.9s
that all of those things. I think we just lost that just a touch, but I know that we can get it
Speaker 19879.9s - 9887.2s
back. Like, and that's what separates Bassmaster ORG from absolutely everyone. And if they go more all in on that,
Speaker 09887.74s - 9915.6s
I think you'll see a huge difference with like live and stuff as well. Just like having that cut show is so much for the angler. And UFC ORG does the best job to do. Like if you watch a fight and you don't know who it is, you don't't really care but when they tell the story leading up to it you're like i hope this guy wins or like that's my guy like you'll pull for him and it'll make you buy the pay-per-view and make you stand until one in the morning watching it because
Speaker 19915.6s - 9923.88s
you're invested in that guy connected to it yeah and so we have to do a lot of it ourselves now with
Speaker 09923.88s - 9940.8s
social media but bass there's no more power than Bassmaster ORG telling your story from their perspective. You, Zona, Tommy PERSON, like all those guys. And Bass PERSON's power with it, they tell the best story. And it's more powerful when it comes from that too.
Speaker 29942.24s - 9947.78s
We still didn't figure out forward facing sonar though. So what's the real game?
Speaker 09950.32s - 9953.38s
What story are we going to tell about forward facing sonar?
Speaker 29953.82s - 9959.7s
Let's do 50-50 next year so we can see how, like, you can't do the power hour.
Speaker 09959.96s - 9961.48s
It gets too sketchy, but like.
Speaker 29961.94s - 9962.3s
Why?
Speaker 09963.04s - 9967.8s
You don't think I can turn my lights on in Canada when I'm in America GPE.
Speaker 29968.5s - 9971s
You don't think there's a way to control people's...
Speaker 09971s - 9976.5s
They could do it, but I could just see it turning into like, he was looking down at his thing.
Speaker 29976.6s - 9977.54s
Like, you know what I mean?
Speaker 09977.54s - 9982.16s
It's always going to, but dude, that's the world you live in for the rest of your life, just so you know.
Speaker 29982.22s - 9985.1s
No matter what you do, I mean... Yeah, people are going to say something. Yeah just so you know, no matter what you do. Yeah. I mean.
Speaker 09985.38s - 9985.5s
Yeah.
Speaker 29986.72s - 9987.36s
People are going to say something.
Speaker 09987.6s - 9987.72s
Yeah.
Speaker 29991.3s - 9991.6s
But, okay, so power hour's gone because you're not the only one that shut it down.
Speaker 09993.3s - 9998.94s
So it's fine. Maybe we start with 50-50, so we see how some do with none at all and half with it.
Speaker 29999.02s - 10002.32s
And I think, I think that's a good happy medium straight off the bat.
Speaker 010002.4s - 10004.44s
I think that would keep a lot of people happy.
Speaker 210004.44s - 10010.28s
And like the electronics companies get to showcase their stuff still
Speaker 010010.28s - 10013.8s
and the guys that love it still get their deal,
Speaker 210013.86s - 10017.94s
the guys that don't that might and then make a decision after that.
Speaker 010018.48s - 10019.5s
I think that's a good call.
Speaker 210020.94s - 10027.36s
I think that's the happy medium where it keeps people somewhat happy no matter what end they're on.
Speaker 310027.36s - 10033.9s
I mean, there's part of me that for the rookies, I think we should make it illegal because just get so they can.
Speaker 210035.1s - 10037.1s
And I don't think that they're just that.
Speaker 010037.4s - 10039.62s
I mean, is there a few that would struggle?
Speaker 210039.78s - 10040.18s
Probably.
Speaker 010040.66s - 10045.98s
I mean, but when you hear comments about and it's just gross how you hear it about everyone.
Speaker 210046.18s - 10048.04s
Well, without electronics, they're nothing.
Speaker 010048.32s - 10054.96s
They'd be, no, I mean, you can catch them in a, yeah, you can see their mechanics, dude.
Speaker 210055.04s - 10056.24s
That's how you can tell.
Speaker 010056.34s - 10060.06s
The way they cast, the way they position their boat, like, they're good.
Speaker 210060.36s - 10062.96s
That's the problem is they're really, really good.
Speaker 010063.36s - 10065.44s
And they're really good with that.
Speaker 210065.56s - 10067.94s
And that thing is dominating.
Speaker 310068.14s - 10068.78s
It's powerful.
Speaker 010068.98s - 10084.38s
And so, like, they've got it all together. They're casting their boat position, the way they think it's all good. And, you know, the other thing is what no one,we don't talk about is we, like, Bassmaster ORG and the anglers created them by, oh, yeah.
Speaker 310084.7s - 10095s
For having the nine. We got the nine, like before you got the guy that fished Oklahoma GPE Three Lakes and now he's on the St. Lawrence River LOC. He's going to get his buttwopped.
Speaker 010095.7s - 10106.28s
We got nine of the most versatile proven hammers that there is. And now we're complaining. No, we created them. That's how you get that's we
Speaker 310106.28s - 10111.9s
asked for it and you're getting it you get yeah you getting the best of the best they just spent
Speaker 210111.9s - 10120.26s
a full year on the road competing against 250 guys in the opens like they're good well and you
Speaker 010120.26s - 10126.56s
also created them long before that decision was made like Like I think the thing that nobody takes into account.
Speaker 210126.56s - 10129.36s
And again, I go back to my kids and I watch how they learn now.
Speaker 010129.42s - 10130.26s
It's so different.
Speaker 210130.42s - 10133.84s
Like, dude, how did you learn what a shad spawn is?
Speaker 010134.34s - 10140.16s
How did you learn about a lot of the things that we, they learn like this?
Speaker 210140.46s - 10185.58s
Like literally, I mean, you talk to Tyler Williams PERSON. What do you do? Well, I fish every day. What do you do with the days that you're not fishing? I lay in my trailer and I Google things. Like, so you just think of the, like, for us not to think that's going to affect things.Like, yeah. It's not the last two years that social media has been a big thing. Like, I mean, YouTube ORG's been around 16, 17 years now. So let's say for the last 10 years, every, whether it be a tournament pro, whether it be the Gugans NORP, whether it be whatever, they've continued to flood the world with all this.So you think in the past, okay, I'm from wherever, Canada, Australia, Maine GPE, and I want to learn about a Shadspon. It's so hard to learn. Like you can read about it. You find the information. You read about it, but you still can't to learn. Like you can read about it. You find the information,
Speaker 310185.58s - 10192.22s
you read about it, but you still can't physically see it. I can go on here. And by the end of an
Speaker 210192.22s - 10209.58s
hour from now, without knowing anything about it, I can be an expert on Shadspawn. I can tell you exactly how they look like in the water from above the water from below the water. I can tell you exactly the kind of lures that you should use in this situation, the timing of it and everything, just by Googling it. And I don't even type it in. I could just
Speaker 010209.58s - 10217.08s
be like, tell me about the shed spawn. And so I think that what we're seeing is a lot of that
Speaker 310217.08s - 10222.44s
coming together. And it's a lot of people's fault. But I mean, the positive all of it is,
Speaker 210222.54s - 10225.88s
there's more kids fishing than there ever has been.
Speaker 310230.62s - 10234.74s
And I don't think forward facing sonar has anything to do with that. I think I've heard stories from people where they're like, my kids are more engaged with it because it gives them something.
Speaker 210234.74s - 10240.7s
But people were fishing. The growth in competitive fishing didn't start with forward facing sonar.
Speaker 010241.06s - 10246.9s
And honestly, the honest truth that nobody will ever say, and they have not said
Speaker 210246.9s - 10261.14s
this to me. But I honestly believe if I was a genie and I landed on Chase Anderson's PERSON desk and said, hey, I can make forward facing sonar disappear from Earth LOC. Like, it's not even a thing. Yeah.
Speaker 310261.62s - 10282.34s
You don't think he'd say, where do I sign up? Like Bass PERSON never, the all too convenient narrative that goes online where, oh, Bass is getting paid big bucks and that's why they're doing this. They never brought the units. The anglers brought the units. Bass PERSON is just being forced to make a decision. But that's what they're supposed to be good at.
Speaker 210282.96s - 10294.22s
And that's what they've proved to be good at over the years. And I think that decision will happen. But I think till then, everybody knows the rules you're fishing under.
Speaker 010296.6s - 10301.48s
It's going to make for a cool story when someone does like crack them and they're not using it too.
Speaker 210301.48s - 10310.7s
And like to see when it does start to wane and then guys catch them other ways like it i said to you like it's just people think that this is how
Speaker 010310.7s - 10315.6s
it's going to be forever and it's never the case like they thought that erig was going to do that
Speaker 210315.6s - 10321.66s
it didn't do that but like but it is a really really powerful tool and it's super fun it's fun to use
Speaker 010321.66s - 10325.44s
and it's incredible and it's like we learned so much of it. And I love
Speaker 310325.44s - 10330.54s
using it. It's unbelievable. Like I've learned more about bass, you know, in the last couple of years
Speaker 010330.54s - 10335.04s
using it than I'd ever would, you know, but it's just whether we just got to figure out whether
Speaker 110335.04s - 10340.36s
it's, whether it's right for the sport or not. So, you know, right now I think we're good to decide
Speaker 310340.36s - 10345.02s
on 50-50. Okay. So that's our decision. 50-50.
Speaker 110346.9s - 10347.2s
You see, see what happens?
Speaker 010350.02s - 10350.26s
You've been in charge of this company for one hour and you're already.
Speaker 210351.4s - 10353.9s
Already on the fence.
Speaker 010359.42s - 10363.92s
I mean, because, and there's that narrative out there that like, well, that's why the Alabama GPE rig got made illegal because there was no money behind it.
Speaker 310364.04s - 10367.74s
No, it got made illegal because there was a lot of pressure from the industry.
Speaker 210368s - 10398.44s
The industry made a clear-cut decision on it. The industry hasn't made a clear-cut decision. The industry is leaving that in the tournament organization's hands. And the truth is, most likely, regardless of what happens in tournaments, you're going to be fishing against it for the rest of your career because other people are going to be using it that are pleasure fishing, that are fishing other circuits. So there's not this bunch, you know, I've yet to hear from any of the electronics companies, you've got to do this, you've got to promote this.
Speaker 010398.54s - 10408.68s
This is what we want or what we, I mean, there's a case to be made that it's actually hurt fast financially in some ways because now they don't have to advertise as much.
Speaker 210409.84s - 10418.82s
So it's, the consumer is telling the story. The consumer is buying the stuff. Yeah. That's what's telling. That's what's driving it. People are buying it.
Speaker 010419.36s - 10420.2s
They're liking to use it.
Speaker 110420.28s - 10421.08s
They're catching fish.
Speaker 310421.08s - 10424.22s
It's helping them catch big and better fish.
Speaker 010424.36s - 10425.2s
Like that's what's
Speaker 210425.2s - 10428.12s
driving it that's the weird part
Speaker 010428.12s - 10431.18s
because routinely when people are like it needs to be out of
Speaker 210431.18s - 10433.38s
tournaments needs to be gone and then I'll be like
Speaker 010433.38s - 10435.86s
do you have it and they're like oh yeah I love it
Speaker 310435.86s - 10439.66s
I am yeah done it I'm like wait a second how is that
Speaker 210439.66s - 10461.58s
right or wrong there will be a decision made it may not be any of the decisions we've made here today but one of the best decisions Right or wrong, there will be a decision made. It may not be any of the decisions we've made here today. But one of the best decisions that you made was the reason that we came together to do this show. And I hate to squeeze this for time. But literally, this show is going to go to air in a couple hours. So we got to stop.
Speaker 010461.7s - 10471s
My poor wife cuts all this stuff together. I don't, I mean, I'm just like, it's done. And now it's going to her mess to deal with.
Speaker 210473.4s - 10478.96s
Talk to me about the initiative that you've started that I think is great.
Speaker 010480.7s - 10584.1s
So, you know, fear my heart is my mantra and something that I've sort of lived by and come up with that for since, you know, 2012, 13, whenever it was. And I've used it to not only motivate me and look at that and know that like I can, I can do anything with heart. It just resonates with so many people. And it's the thing that I want to get behind the most over everything. I want fear my heart to help people, change people's lives, show people that you can do it,even though that you have less experience, less talent. Like I just, I am passionate about it. It's my one thing that I just absolutely love. And I've always, I just don't know where it's going to go. I don't know what it's, I don't really know what it's about. Or what it did we just keep doing things that are positive. And we got some work done on our shop here and we opened up one of the bays and got a better living area here and we just like the universe god or whatever puts people in front of you for certain reasons and somehow we got put in front of a guy his name stacey harvey PERSON he's got a company called warrior precast and we would have never been able to get this done but he's a passionate fisherman and he saw he liked supporting us and he wanted to get it done and he helped us make this happen and we never would have been able to do it without him and he just was in the shop and he got talking about all sorts of things and he said it's just disappointing to see likeeveryone arguing with the fishing industry he's like I think everyone's tired of it and we just got
Speaker 210584.1s - 10591.06s
talking about that and uh and I said there's so many positive things going on all the time and
Speaker 110591.06s - 10596.92s
he he said you know i've tried to help um i think it was like flw or whatever he's like i wanted
Speaker 010596.92s - 10660.08s
to do incentive to show someone that like they would jump up from like way back up into it and show that like the guys that like fought their ways like that'd be good for fear my heart he's like if you can come up with an idea um he's like i'd like to support fear my heart support you and he's like sort of figure it out and that's eventually what we're going to do but leave it up to g man PERSON he's always like he's g man's got such a good mind when it comes to things like that and i just asked him i said man we got a cool opportunity with this and he's always like he's g man PERSON's got such a good mind when it comes to things like that and i justasked him i said man we got a cool opportunity with this and he's like it g man PERSON just said it shouldn't be about the competition it should be about the person that shows the most heart and i'm like oh that's good and uh and we we ran with that and um it's just we're given a thousand dollars away to an elite series angler that does something positive through an elite series week whether he shows heart grit determination integrity sportsmanship and it the cool thing is it's easy because it happens week in and week out
Speaker 210660.08s - 10667.78s
all the time and we never see it guys that you never even work with will help you on the water
Speaker 010667.78s - 10767.12s
tow you in asks how you're doing get your truck out of the water you need a hand whatever it is it's unbelievable it's such an awesome community the whole campground is helping each other like there's a positive vibe around everyone we all love fishing for the same reasons we all have the same passion and we want the same things and so it's just cool like i think to be able to highlight that and so we put it out there and it was awesome like i had people coming up to me at with a way in and saying hey this guy did this and um had people nominating Elite Series EVENT guys the whole time. And it was stories that I was like, man, that would have never got told or never got seen. And it's people that are doing stuff out of the goodness of their heart that aren't at the forefront, not putting it on social media. And Caleb Summerall PERSON, he ended up winning it. And Mike Huff had 21 pounds going into day two was trying to get onto thespot that Caleb was on. Caleb asked him what did he have. He only had three fish and he said, hey, come in and catch him. And Caleb doesn't work with Mike Huff, doesn't really know Mike. Well, he's just another competitor on the water. They're both competing against each other. And he's willing to say, come in and get your fish and get a check and get out. And that shows true sportsmanship, true heart. And it was cool to be able to give it to Caleb Summerall for the first one.And like I said at the start, the response I got from that post that I posted up was the first time ever where I was like, people are ready to hear something positive. Yeah.
Speaker 310767.28s - 10768.74s
People are sick of the drama.
Speaker 010769.32s - 10781.48s
They're more ready for this than ever. And I'm like, this is cool. And I think more people are going to do it. You know, even Bill Loan PERSON, I saw like, he's given out, he's given out bass, you know,
Speaker 310782.14s - 10784.1s
bass memberships to the kids and stuff.
Speaker 010784.1s - 10785.72s
Like, how awesome is that?
Speaker 210785.72s - 10792.12s
Like, I should be highlighted at the forefront of everything. And it sort of just gets swept away a lot of the time.
Speaker 310792.12s - 10797.02s
So I think it's going to turn into something pretty big. We're going to do it for the rest of the season.
Speaker 210797.42s - 10805.06s
And huge thanks to, to Stacey PERSON for supporting us and getting behind fear of heart. And we're just going to keep trying to do positive things
Speaker 310805.06s - 10809.3s
as much as, you know, doom and gloom is at the forefront all the time.
Speaker 210809.3s - 10815.12s
I think everyone, and in real life when you actually get around,
Speaker 010815.46s - 10817.22s
cool things are happening all the time.
Speaker 310817.36s - 10822.26s
Humans are being incredible and doing cool things and being welcoming
Speaker 010822.26s - 10850.84s
and cooking for everyone and inviting you over and just everyone's getting along in real life, but it's not, that doesn't sell. And so we want to highlight the things that, you know, are tough to get the clicks and tough to get the likes and tough to get any traction with. But like I feel like that's right. That's what I've always wanted to do.And it's cool that we sort of got a little glimpse into something that is positive. Yeah.
Speaker 210851.3s - 10866.2s
And it's something that I think that, I mean, it's going to be very interesting to see how people respond to it because you know what it's like to say, oh, people are ready for something positive. Yeah, I think they are. But I still think that that if I
Speaker 310866.2s - 10868.4s
title this, everything
Speaker 210868.4s - 10870.14s
that's wrong with the fishing industry,
Speaker 310870.62s - 10871.56s
it'll get a lot more.
Speaker 010872.78s - 10874.12s
Carl PERSON, Colites,
Speaker 310874.32s - 10875.66s
gas fish.
Speaker 210876.76s - 10878.02s
Why Carl PERSON's
Speaker 310878.02s - 10879.52s
quitting bass fishing?
Speaker 010882.56s - 10884s
It's just, and
Speaker 210884s - 10886.44s
as you said at the beginning of the show,
Speaker 310886.58s - 10888.62s
I think it's important to people tell the truth.
Speaker 210888.82s - 10892.46s
I think we've always tried to tell the truth in this show.
Speaker 310892.98s - 10897.82s
What I have a problem with is people that chase nothing but negative.
Speaker 210898.18s - 10905.24s
Like, I mean, if the only way you can get traffic is by breaking somebody else down, then I hope you enjoy the traffic
Speaker 010905.24s - 10910.76s
because it's never going to be. But I think what you're doing is great. I think it's something
Speaker 210910.76s - 10917.92s
that is, it's funny because I think when you were on your hiatus from Bass PERSON for a little while
Speaker 010917.92s - 10924.92s
when you were trying to re-qualified to get back here, fishing FLW ORG, I started something similar,
Speaker 210924.92s - 10926.02s
but it had no money
Speaker 310926.02s - 10939.26s
to it, so it wasn't near as good. But I said, I bought a belt, a championship belt, and that's when we had meetings. And I would be like every week, I'm going to pick somebody new that gets this belt, andwe're going to turn into a media thing.
Speaker 210939.82s - 10946.68s
And I think Derek had no one the first one because he got de-kewed from a tournament or something because he pre-fished.
Speaker 010947.32s - 10948.94s
He got his days mixed up, but he pre-fished.
Speaker 210949.68s - 10954.04s
But he stayed around the tournament and ran a media boat and did stuff. So he got it.
Speaker 010954.22s - 10957.06s
And then Cruz PERSON, who's one of the best people on Earth LOC,
Speaker 310957.34s - 10958.38s
won the next one.
Speaker 010958.58s - 10960.76s
But he didn't return the belt for like five weeks.
Speaker 310960.94s - 10962.92s
So that's what happened to that.
Speaker 210963.36s - 10964.32s
He kept it.
Speaker 310964.36s - 10964.78s
He said,
Speaker 210965.44s - 10972.24s
no one else made. He just said he forgot it. I'm sure it was on purpose, but that was the way it died. But hey,
Speaker 310972.36s - 10977.4s
cash, they did not have to return. So it will work. It's a great thing. And I'll do everything
Speaker 210977.4s - 10987.38s
I can to promote that stuff. Because I don't think that that stuff doesn't get promoted. I just think it doesn't get. I mean, Bill Owens PERSON things, a prime example.
Speaker 310988.04s - 10988.22s
Yeah.
Speaker 010988.64s - 10991.64s
He takes extra time in the stage and everything.
Speaker 310992.06s - 10995.98s
But the majority of people, you know, if he were to go up there and say,
Speaker 010996.06s - 11000.16s
let me give you five minutes of why I think forward facing sonar is the devil.
Speaker 311000.46s - 11003.42s
Everybody, people be texting their friends, tune in, tune in.
Speaker 011003.64s - 11003.92s
Yeah.
Speaker 211004.04s - 11010.34s
But when he says, I'm going to highlight a kid and he's going to become a member, just the world we live in.
Speaker 011010.44s - 11013.54s
So I guess here's the last rule change we need to have.
Speaker 211014.42s - 11016.66s
Start liking the good stuff in the world.
Speaker 311016.66s - 11016.98s
Yeah.
Speaker 211017.58s - 11019.2s
Start watching the right stuff.
Speaker 311019.52s - 11019.66s
Yeah.
Speaker 211020.7s - 11023.92s
And dude, on this show, I've made a big push for that.
Speaker 011024.3s - 11025.38s
I think from the start, but I really made a big push for that, I think, from the start,
Speaker 211025.44s - 11031.56s
but I really made a push in the last month or so. And I feel like it's hurt, maybe two months.
Speaker 311031.64s - 11037.32s
It's hurt the viewership of this show in times because there's a lot of people who just, give me that TMZ ORG.
Speaker 211037.46s - 11045.42s
I'm not interested in, but they wouldn't be listening to this show anymore. So it doesn't matter. They're checked out.
Speaker 011045.8s - 11047.46s
It's just you and me right now.
Speaker 311047.66s - 11048.44s
Really, it is.
Speaker 011048.54s - 11048.94s
It is.
Speaker 311048.94s - 11049.78s
I hope Roo PERSON,
Speaker 011049.78s - 11110.74s
the Bastog PRODUCT, tunes in because that's all we got. No, I think there's, I think everything gets crazy before it gets better. And we're at sort of like a bit of a point aware, you know, I just think those, those words, integrity, you know, humility, helping people, positivity, just sportsmanship. They're going to come back. They have gone away for a little while and it's not what you get.But it's going to be, it's going to be back to where they stand out when someone does something and it already it already is it already is doing that and so i'm i'm excited about the future we've got to be positive someone's got to do it someone's got to dude i look up to people that's how i am who i am is because i see people and be like, that's who I want to be like. So someone's got to be like how you want this next generation to come up.
Speaker 111110.98s - 11122s
And I hope that the guys keep doing what they're doing with like the older generation that like want the sustainability and the future of the sport and looking after our lakes and the bass.
Speaker 011122.12s - 11128.16s
And I'm trying to do cleanups because I just see it as a huge problem like they just people are looking at it
Speaker 111128.16s - 11137.08s
like it's nothing. I'm like are you seeing what we're doing to our lakes? This is unbelievable and it's taught. It's not. It's learned.
Speaker 011137.58s - 11139.06s
Seeing that and
Speaker 111139.06s - 11141.44s
seeing that it's not a problem.
Speaker 011142.12s - 11164.34s
And yeah, I just think we'll can't change the world but like we can just keep doing positive things and hope that uh that we can make an effect whether it's one person or a million you know i think if you can affect one person i get messages all the time i'm saying dude i read fear my heart read the story and i i want to post more about the peep messages that we
Speaker 311164.34s - 11170.9s
get like that like it resonated with them and it got them out of bed and it got them fighting. And it just
Speaker 111170.9s - 11174.9s
I go through the same things, dude. And the one thing that I just keep doing is like,
Speaker 011175.1s - 11205.08s
get up when I just don't feel like getting up. It's, it sucks. You're down and out and it's like feels like the world's ending. And that's the very time that you need to get up it's easy to get up when life's good so easy everything's rosy but when it sucks and you're down and out that's the very time that you need to go now's my time to stand up and actually fight because that's the thing that's going to make the difference. Great words. Great words.
Speaker 211205.74s - 11216.9s
Totally agree. One of those guys who we all looked up to that made this message possible is Bob Cobb PERSON. And we've reached the time of the show where you need to look at that camera and say, Bob Cobb PERSON, take it away.
Speaker 011218.6s - 11220.08s
Bob Cobb PERSON, take it away, mate.
Speaker 211220.72s - 11222.8s
We out.
Speaker 011223.88s - 11224.58s
Thanks for watching.
Speaker 211227.42s - 11228.12s
Please like, comment, and subscribe.
Speaker 011232.06s - 11232.26s
Because Bob Cobb of the Bassmasters ORG told you to.
Speaker 211232.9s - s
You hear?
