You are Locked on Reds. Hi, I'm Jeff PERSON. Thanks for joining me. I have been a lifelong, since birth, a lifelong Cincinnati Reds ORG fan. I got the pictures as a baby in Reds gear to prove it, and they've probably been driving me crazy since then. And, oh my, this is my sixth season doing this podcast daily for the Locked-on Podcast Network ORG. We are your team every single day, and you'd think I'd be used to doing these kinds of podcasts where the reds are just you know but no no they still get to me they still oh boy yeah this kind of thing stillfrustrates me because listen uh we love talking about the Reds here on Lockdown Reds ORG. And you know what? I hope you do too. I hope you're joining in because you love talking about the Reds ORG. And I would love to hear from you down in the comments section if you're watching here on YouTube ORG. If you're listening on your favorite podcasting app, tweet at me at Jeff Carr PERSON with 3Fs.Because listen, every day we're going to discuss the big thing on every Reds ORG fan's mind. How you lose a game like you lost on Monday night. That's definitely going to be a big one today. We're also going to dive into some geeky numbers and overreact to the everyday movements of the marathon that is the MLB season. Yeah, a lot of emotion in today's podcast. I'm glad you're with me here today, though, because quite frankly, wow, Monday night's game was an absolute roller coaster. There were some great moments. There was some moments, and I had them written down, some moments where I was just like, boy, that's where the season turns around. And then you end the way that you did.you end the way that you did. There are so many, so many ways that we can begin today's show. Thankfully, I will first begin by saying that this episode is brought to you by prize picks. The easiest and most exciting way to play daily fantasy sports. Go to prisepics.com slash locked on MLB and use code all lowercase locked on MLB for a first deposit match of up to $100 and I listen I know that there's 162 games I know that the reds play a lot more games than they've played so far this season. But they're driving me up a wall.

You're here and every dayers will know. I give the most positive outlook on this team that you can

Speaker 1306.46s - 773.28s

possibly get I um I look at the glass half full with the Cincinnati Reds more often than not and games like Monday night try to break you of it man like Reds ORG reds do everything they they can to win that ball game and somehow do everything they can to lose it. I think if they were the home team, they probably win that game. They probably do something crazy in the bottom of the ninth and they win the ball game. But because they're on the road, and because Arizona ORG did as much as they possibly could to lose the ball game, as well as as as much as they possibly could to win the ball game, that's what you get. Six, five, Cincinnati Reds lose to the Arizona Diamondbacks ORG, and if I could have the composure to have given you, to have come on the screen and said, this is what I would say to sum up this game. When Mike Ford PERSON triples, you better win. Mike Ford PERSON hit a triple in this game. Mike Ford's triple was the reason that the Reds were winning in the ninth any. And I said it, going into the top of the ninth, I said, yeah, better get some insurance runs. And they couldn't do that. Because there is, this bullpen right now um i said yesterday i said probably the two guys you trust the most out of the reds bullpen and fernando cruz and alexis dyes were the reason that the reds lost this game and there were some base running gaffs there in the seventh inning, and it's easy to lump those on. There's, this team is never going to be boring, man. Like the Cincinnati Reds this season, as frustrating and as annoying as this streak as this streak has been, they are now 3 and 14 in their last 17 games. And yeah, I'm losing hair. I'm losing brain cells. I'm losing sanity watching this team. But I'm not bored because they're never out of it. And somehow, neither is the opposing team. I, because there's plays where you can see, you can see this team is starting to break out of its, it's funk. The big one for me was there whenever, you know, Graham Ashcraft PERSON is just dying on the mound. He's struggling. He had no command. His cut fastball was going anywhere plate word. He had no clue. That was a tough outing for him. But he was able to buckle down multiple times and limit the damage. And there was a case in the fourth inning. This was the perfect example. And Cowboy, who was on the television broadcast last night, said it best. He had a pitch where he struck out Catelle Marte and Tyler Stevenson PERSON then throughoutCorbin Carroll trying to steal second. Strike him out, throw him out. Had he walked because the pitch was actually up out of the zone, but Catelle Marte swung at it, had he walked Cotel Marte PERSON, he would have been pulled. Wouldn't even finish the fourth inning? Ends up finishing the fourth inning after that crazy strike him out, throw him out.And to be honest with you, I wrote down that play. I said, mark that play. That could be the point where this team turns around. But then they found a way in the seventh inning to turn it back around. Because in the top of the seventh, they had Jonathan India on first with one out. He gets thrown out trying to steal second base on a three O pitch. And then El Elie de la Cruz PERSON on the very next pitch hits a single into left center field, but is too aggressive rounding first and is thrown out. And that's the inning. You could have done something. Feels like you really could have built something in that inning. And then they didn't. And then in the bottom of the seventh inning, Fernando Cruz comes on,gets two quick strikeouts, looking like a dude that's going to mow down this lineup, and then walk, walk, single, Diamondbacks ORG take the lead. There's something about this bullpen that they just can't hold momentum at all.And I don't know what it is, and I don't know what it is. And I don't know if this is some sort of weird baseball karma that the way that the year went for the Reds in 2023 and how surprising and how fun it was. And now this year, they've just got to go through a bunch of crap but that's what this feels like man like Alexis Diaz PERSON had no command none whatsoever and they should have won but the guys that you count on out of the bullpen where they should have won. Should have won. But the guys that you count on out of the bullpen were the guys that gave the game up.And, you know, after Fernando Cruz gave the lead to the Diamondbacks ORG, the Reds fought back, Mike Ford PERSON with the triple to get the go-ahead run, but man, I just this team right now is so frustrating because there is so much about it where you can see the talent and you cansee the light at the end of the tunnel and there's so much about it that continues to hold it back. We need to look at a couple of examples of both those things coming up next. As baseball season rolls along, you don't want to miss your chance to add your favoriteplayers into prize picks and turn their performances into cash. And I'm talking about L.A. Dela Cruz ORG, of course. Because if you go over to prize picks, you check it out, they've got all the different stats and turn their performances into cash. Appreciate you hanging on through all of this crazy streak with the Cincinnati Reds Ball Club coming up on tomorrow's episode. Steve PERSON will be back. I got a little bit of a wonky schedule this week. Steve PERSON will be back. He's going to have a rotation of some guests. I'm actually going to be out the rest of the week. But Steve will be back discussing this Reds ORG team. And hopefully it'll be discussing a win because the Reds ORG had a win. The Reds ORG had a win. And they grabbed defeat out of the jaws of victory. This ball club right now is trying to get back to 500 every time they step to the plate. And that's not going to happen. It feels like right now they need that veteran leadership. They don't have it. It feels like right now they need somebody to just kind of reset them a little bit. Up and down the lineup, I mean, you see, you see,Ellie PERSON's kind of in a little bit of a miniature slump. He's kind of, kind of falling down a little bit. You see Will Benson PERSON is just struggling mightily. That strikeout rate is through the roof. And his, his at-bats don't look competitive right now. You can kind of pointto a few things about his game that maybe, you know, he's barreling up some pitches pretty well. He just doesn't make enough contact. And it feels like clutch moments for this team just elude them, whether it's hitting, whether it's pitching, whether it's fielding. It feels like they try to do too much. And that is where all the frustration comes from. Because I feel it watching it at home. I mean, they're out on the West Coast LOC. Right now they're in Phoenix GPE. It's not the West Coast mean, they're out on the West Coast. Right now they're in Phoenix. It's not the West LOC Coast, but they're out in the West. But I can just, you can sense it watching them at the plate, in the field, pitching everything that they do. It just feels like they stand on the edge of a knife right now. They understand the feelings of Red ORG's country. They understand how much the wind has been just completely grabbed from the sails of Red's Country ORG. I mean, Red's Country ORG right now is not behind this team because of the way that it is played. It's warranted. Like, as much as I want to sit here and say that, you know, there are signs that they're coming out of this slump and that things are happening for them and they continue to find ways to step on that, to squash that, to make sure that that is not the case at all.And I think that's what's the most frustrating watching them is that they play themselves into such a corner. You know, it feels like every single game that they have played for the last two weeks plus has been a one-run ball game. Like they've only lost a couple of games in a blowout type fashion. Like, they've only lost a couple of blowouts. And even then, they're not getting, like, smashed as if they're a horrible team. But they, being young, continue to run themselves into situations where they're trying to do too much. And my perfect example of this was they had the momentum and they hadn't quite gotten the lead yet, but it felt like they were taking over the game. And I mentioned that seventh inning. I kind of want to dive into a little bit more what Ellie did because Ellie is the reason that this team has had pretty much any success this year.Ellie PERSON is the MVP of this ball club, but in this moment, he stopped everything. He switched the momentum. He gave it back to Arizona ORG because he hits a single into short left center field. And with his speed and the way that it was kind of fielded, it was picked up by the left fielder from Arizona ORG, Lordez Gorial Jr. PERSON And the way that he picked it up, he kind of did that like, you know, spin around backwards and then throw it into the infield. But that spinaround backwards, I think, for a half second, made Ellie PERSON think that he misplayed it and he could go to second base. And that's a pretty normal move.I've seen plenty of outfielders do that, the way that they're able to, you know, do that little spin and their momentum throws it into the infield very nicely. But because of that, and Ellie getting caught in between first and second, that was the end of the inning. When he should have understood a two-out single, you're on first, Spencer Steer PERSON is up, Spencer Steer PERSON's been the RBI guy, he's been getting rib-eyes for the last couple of games now again, back to being that force driving and runs in the middle of the order. So Ellie's on first, putting pressure on the pitcher, who at that point didn't really show that he had his stuff.I mean, he just walked into it, give up a single to Ellie Delacruz PERSON. It's just base running blunders got him out of the inning. So that's a point where maybe next year, Ellie PERSON doesn't do that. And in his career, he understands, you don't do that. But he's still so young and he's still so inexperienced. And I feel like that's kind of a point with this ball club that as fun as it is, it's going to be their downfall. And I know that you come here to get, you know that Jeff PERSON's going to bring positive energy with this team. And maybe I should have filtered my emotions a little bit after this game, but man, I was so mad.The way that the Reds ORG blew this game, they had it. You get this win. You ensure that, you know, the, the Diamondbacks ORG don't win the season series. Now they do. And then you ensure that this West Coast LOC trip isn't going to be just a huge bomb. Now you take that into tomorrow's game. And there's going to be some guys that are like, yeah, I can take it a pitch at a time. But there's going to be some guys that don't. We're seeing that every single day. And I feel like as much as you see a bit of a vision, like Jonathan India last night gets on base three times, you see a vision from him.Spencer's deer, RBI, Mike Ford PERSON, a couple of good at bats in there. He hasn't been here long enough for the slump to really, like, you know, weigh on him. But it just feels like guys are trying to do too much. They got another shot today. Another shot for the Reds ORG to get a win. They got to start now, man. This hole, they're digging a hole. We'll look at how they can do that. Coming up next. And make sure you check out Cincinnati Reds ORG Talk.com for written content about your Cincinnati Reds. In between episodes, I'm writing there and Steve's writing there, James Rapine, Austin Elmore, Caleb Sisk PERSON writing there.A lot of great folks writing about the Reds over at Cincinnati Reds Talk.com ORG. And the Reds have a shot today to get a win. It's annoying because I think that one of the biggest problems with us as Reds ORG fans right now is that we take this losing skid very personally. Reds are three and 14 in their last 17 games. And so coming into this ballgame, it feels like if they don't win, it feels like they just lost 10 more games. But if they win, then it's a drop in the bucket. And what did they really do? But this team seems to be carrying that feeling with them. So Hunter Green PERSON's got to stop that. If Hunter Green PERSON wants to be an ace, this is where he does it. This is where ACEs step up.Because this matchup here, I mean, the Reds have Slade Shikoni PERSON on the mound, and Shikoni actually pitched pretty decent against them in their game in Cincinnati GPE. But with Hunter Green, seeing how Graham Ashcraft pitched yesterday, the Reds ORG absolutely empty the bullpen. I mean, Emilio Pagan looked pretty solid, but everybody else pitched. I mean, Lucas Sims only threw one pitch. He's probably available today. But Brent Suter PERSON pitched a bunch. Nick Martinez PERSON didn't pitch, but, I mean, you've got Nick Martinez PERSON and Buck Farmer who were basically the only guys that didn't get used. So this is going to be Hunter Green's PERSON game. And he's got to come out and pitch efficiently and pitch well. And it was something that I noted whenever I was watching that Ashcraft start yesterday, and he didn't have command of his cutter, didn't really know where it was going in the zone, threw a ton of pitches. He threw 27 pitches in the first inning, 30 pitches in the third inning. So it was clear he wasn't going to go very deep into the ballgame. But I thought about this. I was just like, you know, there wasn't a whole lot of folks being like, man, this is a tough star from Graham Ashcraft PERSON. But if Hunter Green PERSON had did that, there'd be a ton of people on Twitter going crazy. Oh my gosh, Hunter Green PERSON is just killing this ball club right now.So go out there and do the opposite. Hunter Green's got to go out there and he's got to pitch like an ace today. The Reds ORG really need this because it feels like right now anything the lineup is doing, they scored five runs yesterday. That should be a game that you win. But the lineup doesn't feel like it's being supported now.And this is exactly what we worried about, right? We worried about games where the lineup is finally back, the lineup's finally doing what it's doing, and the pitching disappears. Because for that eight-game losing streak that the Reds ORG just got out of, all they did was pitch and they didn't hit. Now, all they're doing is hitting and not pitching. And sure, I can sit here and tell you that they've got all the talent in the world and I've tried to as much as I possibly can because I believe it. I believe that the Reds ORG are a very talented ball club, but because of their inexperience, some things, I mean, their margin for error is a little bit thinner than other teams. But when the talent finally shows up, when this team finally puts it all together, how deep is the whole going to be? Because it's pretty deep right now. And really, if it gets much deeper, it's going to be hard to be thinking about October with this ball club. You know, we heard about this all in spring train. Oh, everybody's thinking October. The players are talking about October. They're talking about how they get into the playoffs and, you know, how this team can do some things in the playoffs. But maybe they were thinking too far ahead. You know, I just going to go ahead and put that out there. Maybe they, maybe they were thinking too far ahead. You know, I'm just going to go ahead and put that out there. Maybe they were thinking too far ahead. Just need to take it day by day because right now this team is not doing that. And Hunter Green PERSON needs to help reset the ship here. I said last Thursday because that's what this was. The pitching matchup of Green versus Chicikoni, Reds, Diamondbacks ORG, last Thursday, the getaway game. I'm like, win that game so you get on the plane with good vibes. They didn't do that. But then they end the streak in Game 1 in San Francisco GPE, you're like, okay, maybe something's changing here. Then a couple of one-run losses later, and you're just like, here we are again. Headache City GPE. What can HunterGreen bring to the table? Because he has looked good in recent games. He really has. He's looking like the pitcher that we all think he can be. And the fastball command has been the biggest part of that. So does he bring that with him to Arizona? Because if he is big and if the lineup continues what it's been doing the last couple of days, the Reds ORG should win this ballgame. Because the lineups look better. It's just they're getting no help.Every time they either tie the game up or take the lead, the next half inning, whoever's pitching gives it up. There's some kind of weird mojo with this team right now, that that is what it's, that's what's happening. And man, I think if I've conveyed anything to you in today's episode, it's that I am frustrated. And I'm sure that the players are even more frustrated than this. Like, I don't pretend to know that I feel anything different than what the players do and that the players are just out there like, oh, yeah, you know, I'm sure, and we didn't have clips in today's episode, but I'm sure David Bell PERSON got on the mic after the game.

Speaker 01755.8s - 1765.02s

It's just like, well, you know, we're close. We're out there. We're competing. And, you know, this team's close. They're just not getting the results. You can't focus on the results. You've got to focus on the process. You know, it on the results. Got to focus on the process. You know,

Speaker 11765.44s - 1841.58s

it's normal stuff. So Hunter Green needs to bring the results today. And that's where we're going to in today's podcast. Thanks so much for checking out the Lockdown Reds ORG podcast here. And, uh, man, it's,um, it's been a struggle. The, the Monday night game really was just like, woo. That's a lot.Hopefully they get this thing turned around, man, because there's still so much ball. There's so much ball game. There's so much baseball left this year. But they're going to about make a superfluous if they keep losing. Let's win tonight. And that's going to do it for today's Lockdown Reds ORG podcast. Thanks so much for checking it out tomorrow. Steve PERSON will be back and it'll have a guest with them. I'm not exactly sure who, but I am going to be out the rest of the week doing some traveling. So I'll be back with you coming up next week. Could be an emergency situation where I might jump in.But thank you so much for checking out today's episode. Make sure you're subscribed. Make sure you follow on your favorite podcasting apps. I'm going to go get my sanity back. I'll see. I'll talk to you guys here soon because we will be locked on Reds every single day.
