My name's Tony East PERSON. I cover the team for Forbes and SI ORG. And today, holy smokes, what a game. What a game for game three. One of the best games of this postseason. An amazing first round that this isn't the best game of the postseason so far, but one of the best games I've seen in personin the NBA. Unbelievable. Overtime game three in Cambridge Fieldhouse and the Pacers ORG. I say survive. That's the verb I keep using. I don't know what the perfect verb is. A lot happened. A lot changed. A lot allowed this to happen. The Pacers ORG, I would say, survived because they gave up their lead.

Speaker 191.46s - 849.02s

What an unbelievable basketball game this was. The final score was 128 or already off the rails. 121-118, the Pacers get it done. Tyrese Halliburton, the hero, with the shot in the final seconds. But to set the scene for what this really was for the Pacers ORG, their first home playoff game in more than five years. The last thing they had a home playoff game, they lost by four to the Celtics ORG.In early April 20s, I believe April 23rd, 2019, Miles Turner PERSON, the only player is still around. Caitlin Clark PERSON is there. One of the Pacers players said before the game, they only player is still around. Caitlin Clark is there. One of the Pacers ORG players said before the game they wanted to go demon mode. The crowd was loud. There was a huge roar when T.J. McConnell PERSON checked in.Huge booze for the bucks. Every foul. Crazy booze. Mid-range 2s become massive hype shots. It just hadn't sounded like that in Gainbridge GPE for a long time. Derek McKee PERSON's there.Tony Dungey PERSON's there. Bobby sucks chance for Bobby Portis. That atmosphere hasn't been there. That's obviously significant for the Pacers, and they dominate the first quarter. They're up 19 points before the first quarter even ends. They're up 17 at the actual end of the first quarter.A brilliant start. And yet this game, so much of what we're about to talk about, all comes down to the last 10 minutes of the game plus overtime because with about that much time to go, right? Pacers start the fourth quarter up by seven. It was 90 to 83.The Bucks then have a great start to the fourth and it takes them less than two minutes to go on a seven to two run and it was 92 to 90 with 1023 to go in the fourth quarter. I call out that moment specifically because the lead was changed a lot for the rest of the game. Obviously, the Pacers won and they were losing right after that, right? 95, 92 bucks were ahead with 840 to go. But from that moment where it was 92 to 90 until the end of the game, the score was always within three, either direction. Even when the Pacers had the lead or the Bucks ORG had to lead,no one got above three, right? Bucks got up three, then the Pacers came back and Se the Bucks had to lead, no one got above three, right? Bucks got up three, then the Pacers came back and Seacom got them to lead, and then the Bucs ORG got it back, and then the Bacers got it back, and then the Pacers ORG got it back, and then the Pacers got it back, and the Pacers got it was unbelievable. It was always one possession apart for 15 minutes of clock time of a game. That is as epic and dynamic and exciting as the game can get, where every basket, every stop, every turnover, every moment just feels huge. And so that sets up a game where, like, I could talk about any shot as a pivotal moment, right? I just brought this one up. Pacers ORG finally give up their lead. They've been up for the whole game. They go down three with 840 to go. And then Pascal Seacum has two massive possessions where he draws a foul and then hits a jumper, and they get the lead back a minute later. Like that is a huge swing given how the end of this game went. I could do that over and over and over again. But the Pacer ORG's responses were super impressive. So let's start for the last five minutes. I'll go through a few possessions that really mattered and got the crowd hype and we'reexciting. Bobby Porras hits a three with 432 to go to break a deadlock at 101. Pacers ORG instantly answer. Miles Turner gets a corner three himself. Huge shot. Turner PERSON was unbelievable. We'll talk about him specifically later. That made it 104-104-104. Chris Middleton PERSON immediately answers. Then Turner PERSON answers again with the dunk, right? Like every play was massive, and then no one scored for three minutes. It was a defensive battle. Guys were stepping up, generating open shots and not making them. Finally, the Pacers get the lead for the first time in a while with 56 seconds to go. It's 107-106. That was the Pacer's first lead since there were five minutes and 41 seconds to go in the game. So it felt like a huge moment at the time. And then they got to stop. Dame ORG tried to bait a foul like he had succeeded in for a lot of the game.41 seconds ago. He missed. Pacer's halve the ball up one and set up an epic last 30 seconds in the setting I just described. They miss. Tyres Halbert misses a pull-up three, 18 seconds into the shot clock, whatever, it was fine. Seacom ORG bails them out.Epic rebound, hits a layup on the shot, and gets fouled by Dame ORG. Bucks ORG called to him out to challenge. It was an obvious foul. Lillard PERSON was too late sliding over. So the Pacers have a chance to put it away with 20 seconds left and what could have been a very highly discussed play at the Payser ORG's last.Seyakam PERSON misses the free throw. Bucks ORG have a chance. They come down. They score. Chris Middleton PERSON. Oh, boy, are you about to hear Chris Middleton's PERSON name a lot?Chris Middleton PERSON scores because this game can never be normal and never be outside of a three-point deficit for the last 15 minutes. Chris Middleton PERSON scores. Bucks ORG instantly foul. It's Aaron Eastman PERSON at the line. And you're about to hear Aaron Neesmith's PERSON name in the clutch a lot as well.Seven seconds to go, 6.9 to be exact. Aaron Neesmith PERSON, his team's up won. Massive free throws in the final seven seconds. Drills them both. Epic. He did not shoot the ball while in this game, but when it mattered, was he great? And here comes Chris Middleton PERSON. For the first of many, 101, 108, 111 with seven seconds to go. Middleton PERSON gets it, and here comes the discussion, as it should. Pacer ORG should absolutely have fouled in this spot.Brooke Lopez PERSON caught it at the top of the key. They should have fouled Brooke Lopez right then with about five seconds to go. Here's what Rick Carlell PERSON said after the game. They said they should foul in the moment. If you're the Pacers and you've been touching Dame ORG and he throws it up and draws a shooting foul all game, I get why you're scared. So they didn't foul. Middleton, unbelievable 30 foot fading to his right three tie game. Siaka PERSON misses at the buzzer overtime. So that was 10 minutes of the Bucks ORG winning for a lot of it. Finally, the Pacers ORG get the lead. They blow one free throw. That was all that mattered in the last minute. One free throw was enough for the bucks to mosey back into the game. Overtime. I actually thought after that Middleton three, the Pacers ORG were going to lose. And I said it to somebody Sanisbane Media Row ORG because the whole game, they went up 19 in the first quarter and they were winning this whole time until the earlyfourth. But it was just a slow drip, drip, drip, drip, drip, drip, drip of their lead going away. You know, they couldn't stop the faucet. And so I thought, okay, the buck's caught up and now they have five extra minutes to keep doing that, right? Keep that drip going. And Chris Middleton, of course, scores less than minute overtime in their head. And I thought, okay, here we go. And guess who answered? As he did when Middleton scored a bunch in the fourth quarter, Miles Turner PERSON, terrific driving floater. Very tough shot. A defender rotated down to Miles Turner, and Brooke Lopez PERSON was still on him, and he still hit the floater over both of them. Then the Pacers ORG get a stop and set up a possession that if you didn't see it, you're going to think I'm making this up. 3.23 to go. Brooke Lopez misses an awkward floater over both of them. Then the Pacers get a stop and set up a possession that if you didn't see it, you're going to think I'm making this up.3.23 to go, Brooke Lopez PERSON misses an awkward floater in the lane. It was really good defense from Tyrese Halliburton PERSON to slide over and get the stop. And then Halberton PERSON gets the rebound. There's three minutes and 20 seconds to go in overtime when Tyrese Halliburton PERSON gets the rebound. Let me redo just the log of the game of what happens. Here are the next, oh, I'm not even going to count. Here are the next dozen events that happened to the game. Aaron Neesmith misses a three-point or 257 to go. Pacers ORG' offensive rebound. Team rebound. Andrew Nemhardt PERSON had his hands on it. They get another chance.12 seconds later, they use a lot of the shot clock. Tyrese Hallibert takes 25 foot three. Missed it. Andrew Nammard PERSON, the hero. Offensive rebound. Great.13 seconds later, use the whole shot clock. Pascal Seacom misses a 20-foot stepback. But hey, Pacers have Andrew and Emhart PERSON, no problem. He gets another offensive rebound. They take 15 seconds off the clock. Guess what? They have to shoot another one at the end of the shot clock. Tyrese Hallibu missed a foot foot foot away and Andrew Nemhardt PERSON skies in for an offensive rebound and draws a foul and Chris Middleton. So that alone was four offensive rebounds for the Pacers, three specificallygiven to Andrew Nemhart, one logged as a team rebound, but they couldn't score. But they got a foul, it was great, and they were using a lot of shot clock, so that was already a minute and 20 seconds of play. Then Halliburton ORG misses a stepback three again with 150 to go, so they used16 seconds since the last rebound. And Aaroniesmith PERSON got an offensive rebound, and then Halberd missed again with 142 to go. Dame ORG finally has the ball bounce to him. And Chris Middleton PERSON's wide open for a leakout. So from 323 to go till 135 in overtime, the Pacers had six shot attempts to take a lead and finally make me look dumb for saying, I don't think they're going to win, and they missed all of them. And so once Middleton PERSON hit both of these free throws on the leakout, credit to Turner PERSON for getting back and fouling him, I thought it was over again. What a demoralizing play. You have that many chances. A lot of them are good. A lot of them from your stars. Andrew Nemhardt PERSON, a hero. The knight in shining armor, and it wasn't enough. Oh, but oh, was it about to be? The Pacers ORG come down. Pascal Siaka misses a three, and who's there once again, the Pacers ORG to get an offensive rebound, lose ball, Andrew Demhardt gets it after a foul, and drill. Pascal Siaka misses a three and who's there once again the Pacers ORG to get an offensive rebound loose ballAndrew Demhard PERSON gets it after a foul and drills that little fadeaway elbow jumper that he's become so reliable at this season for his 16th points of the game huge shot as big as it getsfor Nemhard to tie the game Pacers get a stop Chris Milton PERSON actually missed and finally after missing every single three he took for 52 minutes and 45 seconds of a basketball game, Aaron Neesmith PERSON, who is previously 0 for 6 is forced to, by nature of the shot clock, take a three at the shot clock buzzer, drills it. That's his second huge shot of the game after his free throws. Paces are up three. Running through the box scores is the only way to describe why this game was so massive for the Pacer ORG's. But guess what? Is Aaron Nesmus three? Not the clutch of the shot of the game because Chris Middleton PERSON once again. Look, you can give the Pacers a little more credit for not failing on this one because it's 15 seconds to go.They rush Dame, Dame passes it to Chris Middleton PERSON. He banked it in. Total accident from straight on. Just brutal. Bucks go on all defense. They take out Lillard PERSON. They bring in Patrick Gravely. They bring in Andre Jackson. And here it is. The moment for Tyrese Hallburn PERSON, who had so many clutch buckets early in the season, several last year, but none since the injury. He gets it in the back court. He gets across the timeline. He takes a screen. Herejects it. He gets Patrick Beverly PERSON. He gets into the lane, hits a floater over Patrick Beverly and Beverly fouls him and fouls out of the game. Wow. Unbelievable with two seconds to go. Free throw drops for Halberton. In comes McConnell PERSON to defend him on the inbounds. And finally, the Bucks ORG don't score. They get it to Middleton. He misses. It was clearly offline right when he let it go. Pacer ORG's when they needed to in this game and in the clutch and in the final minutes. This is the team that they've talked aboutall the time. They want to have resiliency. They want to respond to big moments from the other team. They almost always, not always, but almost always bounced back from their most pathetic performances during the regular season. In this game, they were not very good for the second and third quarters. They were not good for the middle of the fourth quarter. They were losing late in this game, right? With under two minutes to go, it was a tie game. They were losing by three in the final five minutes. So many things were going wrong for them. They had blew a free throw that would have won them the game with 20 seconds to go. They had blew a free throw that would have won themthe game with 20 seconds to go. They choked six chances at a massive momentum swing in the middle of OT. And they still were up three late. And Middleton PERSON took their hearts out. So many things went wrong. And yet they kept responding. They kept getting the big shots. Neesmiths, Seacom ORG's bucket late in regulation. Neesmiths 3 in overtime. Halliburne PERSON's perfect, beautiful floater. It was awesome. It was just an epic finish for the Pacers ORG to win a game like that. To never quit, to never give up in a game where they had several chances to go, dang. Chris Middleton has 42 points. We don't have a chance. Chris Melton has a 42 point double double. Bobby Portis has a 17-18 game.Dame has 28, and he wasn't even good in the first half this time. And he's gotten 12 free throw attempts. We have no chance. Dame can get more free throws than the Pacers ORG. It felt like he didn't end up that way. And yet they found a way to get it done. And everybody, Seacum, Nieusmith, Nemhart on the glass, Turner PERSON, responding every time Chris Middleton scored. Halberton, of course, the shot. Everybody got it done and everybody Siacom, Nismith, Nemhart on the glass, Turner PERSON responding every time Chris Middleton scored, Halliburton ORG of course the shot. Everybody got it done. What a win for the Pacers ORG. So many individual performers have talked aboutlittle adjustments, other big things as the Pacers are up two to one in their series with the Bucks ORG. That's a butterfly back for real. And we're back here on Lockdown Pacers. Thanks for making us your first listen on this nice weekend if you are living it up vicariously through me after an unbelievable Pacer ORG's win. Make Lockdown Bucks your second listen if they are doing an episode after a heartbreaker for the Milwaukee Bucks. Lockdown NBA is going every night through the playoffs. I'll be on their Saturday night.Just an awesome, awesome basketball game. Chris Middleton PERSON would have been an awesome story for the Bucks ORG people to write about. He was ridiculous. He has a very close relationship with Aaron Neesmith PERSON. And yet, it didn't matter. So, where to begin with Pacers ORG, players, little adjustments? I think the thing to start with and what I'm going to write about and what I want to talk about first right here is Miles Turner PERSON. If you listened with Adam and I, if you listened to me alone after game two, if you listen to the players talk about it,if you've been watching the media sessions. You knew this was an adjustment that didn't feel obvious, but felt like a natural progression of the series. Pascal Seacum was through two games of every series in the league, probably the best player in the playoffs. That's no longer the case.He beats past and whatever. It doesn't matter. He was still pretty good in this game. They won his minute he had 17 points. But the very natural thing that was coming was the Bucks ORG were going to, A, flip their matchups in the front court, no more cross-matching.Bobby Portis is going to guard Pascal all the time. They're not going to scramps with as much. You're not going to put smalls on him so he can't post it up on them anymore. They're going to clog the paint. They're going to send him the attention that Tari's Halberton PERSON had been previously getting all the time in a way so he can't go crazy. Be the amazing player he was. In turn, that met Brooke Lopez would be on Turner PERSON more and Turner PERSON would have the space that Seacca previously had. Now Turner is not the ball handleror finisher or pirouetting spinning beast that Seacom ORG is but he's a great offensive player. Miles Turner PERSON's a great offensive player and so if you listen to Adam PERSON I talk about this or a lot of people, if that's what's happened, my theory was going to bethat they would just use Turner similar to Seacum PERSON. He'd set more screens, he'd be more involved in the offense and he was. Miles Turner was second on the Pacers ORG and shots. He was tied for first until Halberd hit the game winner. He took 21 shots. He set the tone right away. Huge three to start the game, got the crowd, really into it. Right, his cuts were great. His pop timing was great. He could just create space away from Brooke Lopez PERSON all the time, even though Lopez had a good game.Brooke Lopez PERSON pick and roll was really dangerous in this game. But Turner PERSON absolutely killed it. He punished that switch of strategy from Milwaukee ORG perfectly. He had 29 points. Miles Turner only cracked 30 in a game, I believe, twice this entire season. He had 29 in this game.I don't know his playoff career high off top of my head. I can try to look it up while I'm talking. Actually, I do know his playoff career high. I can try to look it up while I'm talking. Actually, I do know his playoff career high. It's 29. It was previously 22. Earlier this series, I end once in the bubble. It is now 29. Unbelievable scoring game for Turner PERSON. And again, the thing that made him stood out and feel so important is they were often matching a key bucks bucket. Or like Bobby Portis, Big Three, Miles Turner PERSON, Big Three. Chris Melton, he would shot Miles Turner cuts for a dunk.He made four threes. That led the Pacers ORG. The Pacers stunk it up, shooting threes tonight. He had six free throw attempts. That was second on the Pacers ORG. Nine rebounds, that was second on the Pacers ORG. No turnovers. Awesome, Miles Turner PERSON game.He was ready for that adjustment. He talked after the game about how he was watching, his film watching has been really crucial for him. He watched a lot of film of how the Bucks ORG defended him during the regular season and that let him know where he thought his advantages were going to come from in this game. Well, he was right and he was ready. Awesome Miles Turner PERSON game.Probably, I mean, this is a little bit based on scoring, but when you score seven more points and do a lot of other key stuff, probably his best playoff game ever. And the Pacers ORG needed him to have his best playoff game ever, and he did. I'll just run through everybody. Everybody did something that mattered in this game. Tyrese Halliburton PERSON did not shoot well at all.He was one for 12 on threes. He'll be the first to tell you he sucked it up on the threes. He was 7 for 10 on twos, including the game-winning shot. He had five offensive rebounds, which is career high in any game, regular season or playoffs. This is third playoff game, I guess. 16 assists, 18 points. And they needed him to be on the floor the whole game. When the Pacers were up 92-90, early in the fourth, before the Bucs took their first lead, Pacers were plus 15 with Halliburton ORG on the floor and minus 13 with him off. And they finished the game, plus 16 with Halliburton on the floor and a three-point win, meaning they were minus 19 with him off. He was so vital in this game. The buck switched it up, as I already discussed with Seacum PERSON, right? They needed to slow him down and maybe concede a little more Tyrese Halliburton PERSON, and Halberton PERSON wiggled free for a lot of shots.I knew Halliburton ORG was going to shoot a lot or more in this game and have the space to do so, and he dunked it twice in the first quarter. Second one was a tip slam, which was ridiculous. Playoff triple double in a win. The last game in Cambridge that that happened was Vic in game six of the Pacer's Cavs ORG series. Really great coming out game for Halberton PERSON to find space to shoot. He's got to make him, right? He cannot go one for 12. But his passing was awesome. If you listen to me and Adam, we talked about the potential assists and passing numbers yesterday. That's why. He's still setting guys up, even when the shot's not falling.Really great game from Tyrese Hallibur ORG. And Drew Nemhardt PERSON, I wrote about him right before the game. Once again, was spectacular. 40 minutes, 16 points, five rebounds, four assists, only one turnover. Awesome defense. Three-threes.A billion offensive rebounds. I can't believe he only has five rebounds. I watched the game. Everybody said this in the medium room. We're all like, oh, yeah, he had what, eight, seven, eight, nine billion offensive rebounds. I can't believe you only has five rebounds. I watched the game. Everybody said this in the medium room. We're all like, oh yeah, he had what, eight, seven, eight nine? Five, crazy.Every team rebound, I think, had to be injured. Emhardt PERSON got credited incorrectly. He was amazing. Seacom ORG, drawing all the attention still in a nice game. Aaron Nees-Smith PERSON, statistically not a great game. But if you listened to the last show, one, once again, you'll know that his passing was good.Three assists, three steals, one block, eight boards, four of them were offensive, and seven free throw attempts. So yes, he was very inaccurate shooting the ball, three for 13. Still had 13, 8, 3, and 1. So that makes up for it quite a bit. And look, he struggled with Chris Millington PERSON.I think everybody would have in the NBA ORG in this game. But overall, the clutch shots made up for it from Neesmith PERSON. Drilled both free throws when it mattered, hit the three that basically put the game away. Kind of. What an ending. What a game.Obie Toppins' first half was a difference maker as the Bucks ORG were starting to kind of get their footing. Topin was in the game just making everything, making threes dunking, grabbing huge rebounds. He had 15 points. I think all of them were in the first half. The Bucks would have caught up a lot faster if it weren't for Obie Toppin.Ben Shepard Rock Solid once again with six points. He was plus three. They put him in for Aaron Neesmith when Neesmith had some foul trouble in the first half. T.J. McConnell made half his shots in this game. He made a three. Better for him from an efficiency perspective. Just foul trouble in the first half. T.J. McConnell made half his shots in this game. He made a three. Better for him from an efficiency perspective. Just reeling in the shots a little bit, I thoughtwas smart from him. It just went in the cards for him to shoot as much. He wasn't in regular season. Jalen Smith played for three minutes. They did not go well. He did not play again after that. That was a mistake, I think. There was some foul trouble for Miles Turner PERSON. He finished with four that I think contributed to that. Obie Topin had three as well. They did not go well. But they had to do something there. I said that I thought he could reappear on an earlier show. I don't think now I don't think it'll happen again, unless foul trouble is the reason. Anyway, everybody who played did something meaningful, whether that was defense, whether that was slightly changing the way they play, whether that was weathering a storm, whether that was playing really well, in the case of the Pacers' three stars. But the key adjustment, right, the one that the bucks had to do to slow down Pascal Seacom PERSON in a more meaningful way than the way they were playing. They had to do it. And that was going to free up Miles Turner PERSON.And it did. And he took advantage of it. He was so good. He was so good with timely plays. It was a ridiculous game for Miles Turner PERSON. And it did. And he took advantage of it. He was so good. He was so good with timely plays. It was a ridiculous game for Miles Turner PERSON. It was his best playoff game. He was their only 20 points. He was their only 20 points. He was their only 20 points score. Six and double figures for the Pacers all at 13 or more. And Turner PERSON led the way. Terrific game on both ends. He deservesall the flowers. I'm going to write about him because, again, when you have your past playoff game, you get ridden about. Awesome game from him. And lots more to come in the series. What are the next adjustments? What does it mean that Tyrese Halliburton PERSON finally found room to shoot?I'll run through some of my notes of stuff that I thought was really important that I want to talk about because there's so much more to get to on today's locked on Pacers ORG before we get to any of it, though. thanks for making us your first listen today and every single day for your second list. Check out Locked on Wolves or Locked on Suns. That was the game that I just finished watchingbefore recording this because I have to watch every game before recording. I don't know why. I'm like that, but I am. The Suns ORG, Yikes. Frank Vogel, ex Pacers ORG coach, his team needs a miracle. They are not playing very well. Look, this was the momentI talked about the dunk. There was another moment I knew Halliburton ORG was going to shoot more in this game and potentially for the rest of the series. I don't know how early in the game it was, but it's like my fifth note of the game. Seaccombe was, Pascal Seaccom PERSONbe was posting up with a small on him. He got doubled. Bucks did a good job. They wanted to get it out of his game. Seaccombe was, Pascal Seaccom was posting up with a small on him. He got doubled. Bucks ORG did a good job. They wanted to get it out of his hands. He kicks it out to Andrew Nemhardt PERSON.Andrew Nemhardt PERSON. Boom. Top of the key. Aaron E. Smith PERSON. Boom. One more swing to Halliburton ORG. Defense is like, uh-oh, it's Halliburton ORG. They close out really hard. Halberton PERSON, shot fakes, drives in. Easy layup.Seacom's attention that he is now drawing because he was so good in the first two games, let Terry's Halberton PERSON have less attention and thus score on that basket. That might be a thing that happens the rest of the series. Like, not only was Seacob starting the series really good because the Pacers ORG won a game because of it, like he was unreal in that game to win and was vital in like setting the tone, it forced the bucks to adjust in a way that might help the Pacers ORG for the rest of the series. That's why the playoffs are so fascinating, right? All this stuff that just matters and forces teams to adjust are absolutely fascinating. And then when Tyrese got free for a dunk later, the one that I actually tweeted like, okay, he's going to shoot more than 10 times tonight, is was because Brooke Lopez was on Miles Turner instead of Siakum PERSON. And so those screening rolls, man, Lopez was too slow and it just left Tyrese Hallib PERSON and fly down the line.So all that front court dynamic was really changed. And Seacom ORG starts the series allowed those adjustments to happen. That was massive. Pacers were better on Dame ORG early in this game. Some of that was that Dame ORG was getting more attention. Some of that's that he fell and heard his Achilles again in this game. That really limited what he could do throughout the night. He got going. Of course, I'm talking about a guy who had 28 points and 8 assists in the game, but he was 6 for 20 on his way to doing it. And Doc Rivers PERSON even said after the game, I hope I still have a bookmarked.I might have taken it off my bookmarks. I still do from Eric Name of the Athletic ORG. I think it's his Achilles again. So we'll see. Doc Rivers says of Damien Lillen. Honestly, Dan PERSON was really struggling. In the overtime, he literally said, I'll be the decoy. I just can't go as far as explosion. So I thought Dame just being out there was huge for us. Well, one, crazy that Doc PERSON would admit that theywere using Dame ORG as a decoy. To me, at least it's very surprising to say. The fact that he needed to be a decoy says a lot about his health status. But anyway, his game changed from that. That really mattered. That's why, yes, his stat line was good, but not nearly as impactful as either of the other two Dame performances, despite him being within seven points of that. And him and Portis both struggled early, and that's what let the Pacers ORG get so far ahead in the game. Andre Jackson PERSON was so far ahead in the game. Andre Jackson PERSON was a big adjustment in this game. He's on the Bucks ORG, so if you don't know who that is, I understand. He's a second round pick that, if you remember, by the way, I really liked heading into this draft for the Pacers ORG.I think I picked him in the locked on mock draft. He came in and he was young legs and he's fast and on this older Bucks ORG team that, again, a little creaky. Jake Crowder PERSON not giving him much. Jay Crowder played two minutes. Ty Windish predicted he'd play less on this show.I did Thursday with him. Malik Beasley played less than seven minutes. Again, same thing from Ty. He's all over at front of the buck side. That's because he covers the bucks. Andre Jackson plays instead, plays 17 minutes and 15 seconds, just gives him some speed and energy and defense. And he came in and changed the game. He was plus seven in those 17 minutes. I think he's going to play in every game the rest of the way and play a lot if he can play like that. He did have a lot of fouls that really hurt the bucks, but he was good. That's a big adjustment to keep an eye on going forward is, one, what does he do?He can guard a lot of positions? He was on Halberton PERSON, even at times in this game. So can he be someone who actually shifts things and makes life hard for Pacers ORG' guards and forces the Pacers to think, uh-oh, they have a speedy guy out there. We've got to put someone like that in actions, right? Make them think, make them react, make them have to communicate because NBA ORG defenses are complicated and hard. That's why it's hard to trust those guys in the defense fan. That's why what Ben Shepard PERSON's done in this serieshas been so impressive. Another adjustment the Bucks went to is when the Pacers would swarm Dame ORG on pink and rolls, Brooke Lopez PERSON would just awkwardly barrel into the lane, and it looks awkward, but it worked a lot. He made a bajillion threes in the first quarter of their last game. He made six-threes. He only took two in this game because it's what he needed to do was getting the paint score. He made seven-twos. He was awesome at that. And the way the Pacers are defending Damians PERSON, that might be there a lot. So I think the Pacers ORG, another adjustment for them besides figuring out how to handle Andre Jackson PERSON is their low-man rotations have to be much faster, right? They were not getting over quick enough to slow those down.Early they did as the game went along got better at it, right? Tyrese Halliburton's big stop and overtime on Lopez PERSON was him doing that coming from the opposite corner, making a play there. That's going to be something I think matters going forward. Halberton had double-digit assist by halftime. I just had that note. That's absolutely, that is absolutely crazy. And the Bucs ORG made this game slower. That's how they were able to come back. Pacers ORG cannot let that happen in this game. And they had some other ugly moments when the pace was slow that it was $93-92. Pacers get a stop. Miles Turner boxes out, Brooklyn, excuse me, Bobby Portis. Pascal Seaccom PERSON is just standing there. They both watch the ball hit the ground on a rebound. And BobbyPortis just runs around and gets it, right? That's not Pacers ORG basketball when they're playing their best. They're fast. They go get that ball. They run. They have to be able to do that. I know it's hard to do for 48 minutes, but that's one of their big advantages against the Bucks ORG in this. So the big adjustments to keep an eye on and to figure out how teams react, both teams react to this is the front court switch up from the Bucks ORG, right? This is how they defended the Pacers during the regular season when Yannis was playing, of course? So it's a littledifferent. But is Turner PERSON still able to do this? I think he can, right? I predicted he would if they switch this up, but he's going to be critical if they keep defending like this, or can Seacom ORG find a way to bust up what is now his new reality in this series? Can the Pacers ORG keep playing fast? They got slowed down on this game. And what's their answer for Andre Jackson and his energy? Because he actually makes life a little hard on some Pacer ORG's guard, which is something the Bucks ORG desperately need, right?Patrick Beverly PERSON is their only answer so often as a guard defender in this series, and that's fine, but, you know, for all the good stuff Patrick Bavilley PERSON does on defense with energy and tenacity and all that, like he is a good defense player. He's short, right? You are limited in what you can do at that height, right? And I actually forget the other thing I was talking about for all these adjustments.Man, I was, oh yeah, the Brooke Lopez picking rolls with Dame ORG. You know, if that's going to be the way the Bucks ORG handle, Dame ORG pressure, especially if he's a decoy pacer, have to be ready for that. So those are the next steps in the series, solving all that for the pacer's. And if Halliburton can get open for 22 shots, like 12 threes. He only made one. That's not good. That's bad. I'm not saying that's to say this is good. The fact that he took all those threes, I think one or two of them were late shot clock. You don't love those, obviously. But I don't think any of them he took it. And I was like, what is that? That's a terrible shot, blah, blah, blah. That bodes well, I think. If that can happen again, he's a triple double. Like, I'm not trying to kill the guy, even though he was very inaccurate from the field. Great game from him. And if he can continue to get that open, I think that bodes well for the Pacers ORG and him getting rolling in the postseason. Look, I mentioned this. I tweeted this after the game. The Pacers ORG stunk it up in game one. And a lot of what I attributedthat to and a lot of people talked about beyond like general playoff yips and they just weren't playing very well. They shot awful. They missed 13 threes in a row to start the game. Eight for 38 from three was their final tally in game one. Good for a whopping 21%. In this game, they were at 26.5%.They weren't that much better. But they got to the foul line more and made 18 free throws. They finished well inside the arc in this game much better than in that game. And of course, I went to overtime. But that's how they got to the foul line more and made 18 free throws. They finished well inside the arc in this game much better than in that game. And, of course, I went to overtime. But that's how they got to 121 instead of 94, like in game one. Even at the end of regulation, they got to 111.Their offense has just been much better than it was in game one, and some of that was the shooting. The fact that they won this game, though, shooting 26.5% from 3. To me, even if Janus returns, if you're a Pacers ORG fan, that would give me at least confidence in their ability to close out, even a series that Yonis PERSON plays it.The fact they can win a game shooting that poorly from 3. The bucks were 10 for 31. That's not good either. But that's 32.3%. The Pacers ORG won. The Pacers ORG won this game. They won it in a unique way. They destroyed the offensive glass. Eight extra offensive rebounds than the Bucks ORG. They won it in a unique way. They destroyed the offensive glass. Eight extra offensive rebounds than the Bucks ORG. They won the turnover battle again. Adam and I talked about that, 8 to 11. Between the eight extra offensive rebounds and three extra turnovers, that's a bunch of extra shots, right? And of course, the shot total is a little skewed because the Bucks took three more free throws. The Pacers took 17 more shots from the field in this game. That's how you survive, not field in this game. That's how you survive, not shooting well from three. That's how you survive a generally inefficient night. And that's how the Pacers ORG, among many things, were unreal in the clutch when it mattered. They made the shots with the game on the line. They were a little better at a lot of stuff defensively throughout the game. They adjusted well to what the bucks threw with them in the front court. And they're winning a series. What a turnaround for the Pacers after a crummy game one. They're up to one. Game three, excuse me, game four at home, a chance to go up three one. I don't mean to be a wet blanket. I just have to say this. They were up to one when they lost the Cavs in 2018. The series is not over,is what I mean to say by that. They can't get too high. It's actually hard to respond to wins in the playoffs. It's hard to mentally keep refocusing and keep going, especially in the first round. It's still a lot of work to do. Game four LAW is extremely important. Yannis's health status, of course, extremely important. Obviously, this was the game.Game three is the one that I thought he could return for. My operating theory being two to four week injury, this is about two and a half weeks, one day off from that. If he could return as early as possible, there were two days off between game two and three, this could be the time. Now my operating theory is game five, which would be three weeks from the injury at home. It could be game four. And obviously I'm guessing, everybody's guessing. Nobody knows for sure. If it's game five, if it's not game four, and obviously I'm guessing, everybody's guessing. Nobody knows for sure.If it's game five, if it's not game four, Pacers need to win game four. That gives them three chances to win once. The way they play, the three volume they get up, yeah, Janus PERSON could just beat them, but they can win. They can win at that stage, especially if they win game four. And they gave him a chance to do all this because they won game three. They survived an unbelievable clutch game from Chris Mill milton had 42 10 and 5 he was unrealthey chris milton played 41 minutes and 20 seconds and they won those minutes in a loss ridiculous basketball game if you missed it and you're hearing it for the first time through me find a way to watch it if you watched it and you're living vicariously through me it was awesome it was really fun to watch. It was a delight to be there and see it all in person. Here's how I could tell it was a game with a lot of clutch moments.I was telling somebody this after the game. I don't film the game ever from my media seat unless it's in the last like 30 seconds and a possession is a massive possession. I had to delete like 15 videos from my phone after the game because there were a million possessions like that. Where it's like, oh, this could be the one that wins it. Oh, this could be the tie. Oh, this could be the game because there were a million possessions like that. Where it's like, oh, this could be the one that wins it.Oh, this could be the tie. Oh, this could be the winner. Oh, this could be the tie. Oh, ridiculous. I tweeted like three of them. Awesome game.Really impressive win by a young Pacers ORG team. They're up in the series. They have a chance to get it done. They've got to keep their foot on the gas, winning two in a row. Very impressive. Very impressive. And we will see if they can continue to react to the Bucks ORG' adjustments and make their own against the New Look Bucks ORG rotation or a new look buck's front court. And we'll cover it all here on the lockdown Pacers podcast. Previewing Game 4 tomorrow, it'll probably just be me. And then Dave Searle, Miller Time Pod, I believe he was with the other Millertime Pod, Jod Falae at Game 3 EVENT. I hope I'm right about that. He's going to come on after Game 4 Sunday night.Hopefully we're talking about a 3-1 series just because it's more fun to talk like that with guests. And then we'll roll right into a week. We're going to have Camille from Lockdown Bucksback after Game 4 at some point to get their perspective on the series after it goes through Indy GPE. So lots of fun stuff coming here on the lockdown pastryers podcast. Hope you guys enjoyed today's episode where I basically just bounced off the walls and talked about the craziness that was game three.Back tomorrow, talking Game 4 EVENT previews, adjustments, what to watch for as the series progresses what we learn at practice on Saturday. Until then, everybody, have a wonderful day. This show is sponsored by BetterHelp ORG.
