We'll talk about Cleveland ORG's surprising win in Boston and whether or not the Celtics ORG need more from their star player, plus the Sun ORG's making a coaching change. But let's start Tony in Oklahoma City GPE, where the Mavericks shot 49% from 3. They win the game 119 to 110. Tie the series as it goes to Dallas ORG. Was this as simple as Dallas ORG just making their threes? Or what did you see in this one?

Speaker 5152.24s - 162.1s

That is a big part of it. Specifically, Mr. Tim Hardaway Jr. PERSON, who say, like, I think that a factor here is the

Speaker 4162.1s - 166.5s

timeliness of what happened in this game, too. The Thunder took a lead in the third quarter.

Speaker 5166.62s - 211.52s

It looked like they had all the momentum again. It was their only lead of the game. And then Tim Hardaway Jr. comes in and was the best player on the court for either team for pick the amount of time, four, five, six, seven minutes, whatever. He made everything. He went on a solo 10-0 run or 11-0. I think he made the free throw.Like, it was unbelievable. And the Mavs ORG never gave the lead back. And that's kind of a microcosm of what they did. But the thing about the Mavs ORG and why I think they're going to be so tough to beat for any team in the playoffs is like when you have Kyrie and Luca PERSON, you're going to generate a bunch of good threes. Right. Tim Hardaway Jr. PERSON specifically were not the easiest, but like PJ Washington made seven and they were almost all so open and in the corner, right?Like this can happen any time for them. So on one head, yeah, it's like, yes, they made their threes, but they're going to get good threes every single game. This can happen any time against Dallas ORG.

Speaker 4212s - 216.5s

Quick aside on the Tim Hardaway Jr., little 10-0, 11-0 spurt, whatever it was.

Speaker 5216.5s - 220.54s

My favorite part of that was how he was on the court for different parts of it with Luca

Speaker 4220.54s - 277.62s

or Kyrie PERSON. And every time the ball would be brought up, he was like, hey, I'm on a run. And he would do that thing where he gets just parallel to the basket with both hands out, palms forward, like, give me the ball. And I'm like, yo, Kyrie Irving PERSON's got the ball. Luca Dodger PERSON just got the ball. Like, I know you're hot, but it's their team still. So just, like, my little favorite thing about that. Just love the confidence. You're right about thestreaky shooting. This is how the Dallas Mavericks ORG are built, right? At the same time that PJ Washington goes seven for 11 from three or Hardaway goes two for four and goes on that scoring run. On that same night, Derek Jones Jr., one for five from three point range. Kyrie Irving missed both of his three-pointers, right? You've got guys who are not hot from three-point range, but they've sort of decorated this roster with enough guys who are streaky where I guess the bet is one or two of them hiton a night-to-night basis, and boom, you're racing. You know what I mean? So you had all that. Luke PERSON on a little bit of a bum ankle, just spoon-feeding

Speaker 5277.62s - 281.54s

everybody. Exactly the whole team on a bum something.

Speaker 4281.72s - 352.18s

What is going on? They're all limping. They all can't move their arm. What is happening to the maps? Playoffs, baby. The Thunder ORG are weirdly healthy. And I say that knocking on wood. Hopefully people can hear me in the audio. I say that knocking on wood. I wish no injury to any player. But they are weirdly healthy at this stage of the season. So I do think like the three point shooting was certainly part of it. They go 18 for 37 this stage of the season. So I do think, like, the three-point shooting was certainly part of it. They go 18 for 37 overall, 49% shooting. Oklahoma City 10 for 30, so they make about a third of their threes. And you look at the final score, and you're like, yep, that's about right. That sounds about, like, what the difference is. I will say this. I do think beyond just the three-point shooting and just sort of the inherent variance and all of that, the thunder do need to clean some things up. They need to clean up the turnovers.Too many lazy passes. Too many easy things for Luca PERSON and these other guys to just jump passing lanes, steal and get back in transition, get easy buckets in transition. They had 10 turnovers in this game. 18 points off of those turnovers for Dallas ORG. Of those 10 turnovers, eight were steals. So basically the easiest kind to turn into points, right? You're already on the run. You're on the break. Nobody can catch up with you. So they need to clean that part of it up. Was there anything else you saw from the Thunder ORG that they need to clean up? The

Speaker 5352.18s - 359.06s

thunder need to clean up. They're starting lineup. I think that tonight is the last time

Speaker 4359.06s - 366.7s

Josh Gady PERSON starts in the playoffs. Maybe a different opponent can make it possible, but in the lack of spacing,

Speaker 5367.34s - 434.94s

you know, in a game-to-game, regular season environment, you can get away with it, and he's a talented passer, and he was really good to close the season, but he played 10 minutes and 46 seconds, and they lost those minutes by 20 points tonight. The next worst plus minus for any player on the thunderwas Isaiah Joe up minus nine, right? Like that says a lot about how bad those minutes went. So, Kason Wallace was good in this game. Isaiah Joe PERSON's been good for them for forever, right? Like, they were going to do it eventually. Like, just do it. You know, you'd rather do it early than do it late. So I think that that is a thing for the Thunder. And credit the Mavs ORG, they're doing well with like the defensive game plan with Giddy PERSON involved. And Chet PERSON was not, you know, Chet was like his plus minus looks good. I didn't think Chet PERSON was particularly good in this game. He wasn't making a shot. He didn't feel him as much on defense as when we do four turnovers. I don't know if that's a one-off thing, but I thought Gafford PERSON played very well. So getting Chet PERSON a little more chetty in some way, whether that's him getting going fromthe perimeter again, being more impactful on the defensive end because he's not just getting run over by a Mavs big. That'll be important for the Thunder as well. Yeah, not the Chet PERSON factor that

Speaker 4434.94s - 440.48s

he was in game one, right? Not so much in game two. But is it you who started this in my head?

Speaker 5440.64s - 445.56s

I'm doing it. Yep. I think I started it. I'm taking credit for it. I don't see anybody

Speaker 4445.56s - 448.9s

else doing it, so I got it. I want to go back to the starting line up, because it is where I

Speaker 0448.9s - 452.3s

wanted to sort of steer this conversation. You're absolutely right. Chet PERSON, or not Chet,

Speaker 5452.3s - 458.04s

Josh Giddy. I wasn't so much on the, this has to happen eventually, although if you would

Speaker 0458.04s - 461.34s

have made me place a bet on it, I would have wagered, yeah, it's going to happen eventually,

Speaker 5461.38s - 465.68s

and it probably does. But the passing is really important. His height is really the size.

Speaker 4466.36s - 582.62s

The rebounding is an underrated part of him. He's kind of quietly one of their best, like one of the best rebounders on the Thunder ORG. I know they're not a great rebounding team. So I wasn't fully like Whole Hogg PERSON. They got to do it. What are they doing? But we, everybody kind of knew there was going to be a point where they had to do it. And I think we reached that point today. This was the night. We reached it. He got played off the court within six minutes of this game starting. They went up going to little Jalen Williams PERSON, who's actually big Jalen Williams, but we called Little Jalen Williams, big Jailen Williams PERSON now because he's the better one. And so now the big one is little one. So the other Jailen Williams comes in halfway through the first quarter, and they kind of do this double big thing. And that worked, and it was interesting because they had Chet Holmgren PERSON hang out by the basket and Luca and Kyrie PERSON were getting to the basket all the time and so I thought that was an interesting wrinkle but then Dagnall comes out and has Aaron Wiggins starting in Giddy PERSON's place to start the second half and at that point I'm like oh we're done we've seen basically Giddy PERSON I wasn't even sure he was going to play in the second half he did play a couple more minutes in the second half came in halfway through the third quarter. But it was interesting to see Dallas's process of playing Giddy PERSON off the floor because in game one, they actually didn't put Gap – they didn't start with Gafford on Giddy PERSON the way that they had in the regular season where they had their centers on Giddy PERSON. They actually started with Luca on Giddy PERSON. And then the Thunder ORG were like, all right, cool, that's fine.We know exactly what to do in this situation. They just involved Giddy in every on-ball action, ended up getting Luca switched on to Shea PERSON and a bunch of other players, and it worked. And they're like, and then the Mavericks ORG were like, nope, that didn't work. Put the center back on Giddy PERSON. And then Giddy PERSON ends up getting played off the floor in that game, too. Didn't play like 16 or 17 minutes.Back to the plus minus point that you made, Tony PERSON. Josh Giddy is a minus 27 in this series. Wow. The Thunder have been outscored by 27 points with Giddy PERSON on the court in this series. The starting lineup change has to happen.I would bet. I would be actually surprised at this point if it wasn't the case in game three. The only question is who. I'd probably be just bet on Aaron Wiggins

Speaker 0582.62s - 586.92s

because they started him in the second half in his place, but maybe they go Isaiah Joe PERSON.

Speaker 4587.26s - 594.16s

Maybe they go, okay, San Wallace PERSON. But I think for the integrity of the rotation, it's almost easier to just sort of slot Wiggins PERSON in there. But it could be either one. It doesn't really matter.

Speaker 5594.56s - 637.7s

Mavs ORG are bigger outside the guards. I think Wiggins PERSON is a good shout. And we've already seen Dagnot be reflexive with his rotations. Like the J. Will ORG. Front court was like not that much of a thing in the regular season, but the match play big. They can get away with it. They're going to it.And Shea started the fourth quarter. They never do that. He usually rests then. They were like, yeah, we need them. And Giddy didn't play it all in the fourth quarter. Like all the signs are when they chips are down, they know what they need to do. Also, likebig picture. They were 5 and 0 before this game, giving up 95 or less every game. 119 for the Mavs. That's not just shooting. Thunder ORG got to defend better. And credit to the Mavs and Luca and his one usable foot for just tearing him up. He was hopping around and that dude, the second he caught the ball was ready to rip that three in, baby. That was quite the play.

Speaker 4638.74s - 641.48s

Shout out to the Mavericks ORG. You steal home court. This is a fun series.

Speaker 5641.68s - 657.08s

It is definitely a series. Really excited to see where this thing goes. But was not the only series that got evened up tonight. Another Torrid shooting night as the Cavs ORG Steel Home Court Advantage in Boston. We'll talk about it next here on Lockdown NBA ORG.

Back here on Lockdown NBA, thanks for making Lockdown NBA, your first listen every day. Turned into Ron Burgundy PERSON there for a little bit on that ad copy. But that's what you get in the playoffs, Tony PERSON. It's been late nights, a lot of basketball. A little crazy, crazy night in the NBA. The Cavs going to Boston, beat the Celtics 118 to

Speaker 0831.64s - 836.28s

94. We even had garbage time at the end of this and not the way that you would think.

Speaker 4836.58s - 852.42s

A lot. A lot. Yeah. A lot. Yeah. Saw some guys I've never seen before playing for Boston GPE. The Cavs, they were led by Donovan Mitchell PERSON. He scored 23 of his 29 points in the second half. Another quiet Jason Tatum game. Do you want to start with the Cavs or the Celtics ORG?

Speaker 5852.74s - 854.64s

Oh, the Cavs ORG. Oh, my God. Start with the ones.

Speaker 4854.72s - 864.92s

Very good. You got to start with the winning team. This is a beef I have with other podcasts when it's like the Timberwolf ORG sweep the suns. It's like, let's talk about the suns. I'm like, no, no, no, let's talk about the team that swept the other team. Okay.

Speaker 6870.7s - 876.48s

As one of the few remaining teams, name them. As one of the suns. It's like, let's talk about the suns. I'm like, no, no, no, let's talk about the team that swept the other team. Um, okay, as one of the, as one of the few remaining people, it's not few, there's a lot. Like, the waning group of the Evan Moby, Mobley fan club had a great night.

Speaker 5876.56s - 930.68s

We were very excited about what we saw from Evan Mowley PERSON, who his defensive impact, amazing. He also made threes and had five assists. He was awesome on both ends of the floor. Massive for the Cavs ORG and he could play that way. We'll ignore that he was the only center available and just say that he played really well. And that was significant. He was not this good in game one. That was obviously huge for the Cavs. And him and Mitchell PERSON were both over plus 30 in this game. They are both fantastic. Mitchell PERSON has been a ridiculous heater since game sixto that Magic series, honestly, the whole playoffs. When those two can link up and actually have two-man action and then they also get good shooting from the rest of the players who start around them, the Cavs ORG offense is pretty good. And that hasn't been the case very much in this postseason. Struce PERSON has not shot it well. He didn't again. But Okoro made his only three and Garland was four for five. They are really hard to beat when they're humming in that way.And they have a threatening two-man game. And that is what guided them in a big way. And the Celtics ORG did not chew well.

Speaker 4930.94s - 1006.96s

Help their defense a little bit. We'll stay with Cleveland for a second. You're right. I don't want to say that they're better without Jared Allen PERSON. I don't know. But are they better without Jared Allen PERSON?You know, like it's, there's something to be said about, they're better with the one big because it just makes it cleaner, right? You don't, it's not as complicated. The spacing's a little bit better. And when it's Donovan Mitchell just getting that screen from Mobley and then jumping into his action and sprang out to shooters, which is basically what he did the whole first, the first half, Daven Mitchell PERSON was the facilitator. Second half, Boston GPE changed up their schemes a little bit instead of dropping and kind of baiting them into it. They pressed up on him, and he was able to turn the corner against that defense and kind of able to get to his spots a little bit more. It'll be interesting to see how the Celtics kind of adjust their defenses going forward on Donovan Mitchell PERSON. But it just cleans it up. And then Darius Garland PERSON, very happy to just not do anything. You know what I mean? Like Garland's very cool just taking eight shots. And I don't even mean that is like a diss. Like he's super unselfish and he sees that DonovanMitchell has it going. He's like, cool, I'll stay here. If you need somebody to make a shot, I'll be here. And he shot 62, 63% in this game. Got seven rebounds, four assists. Like did the things he had to do. But mostly stayed out of the way while Donovan Mitchell PERSON cooked, right? He's a sous chef. He's like, if you need me, I'm here, I'm here cutting mushrooms if you need me.

Speaker 01008.6s - 1013.74s

So it was just a nice, clean game, but it was all powered by Donovan Mitchell PERSON.

Speaker 61013.86s - 1015.58s

And I know he only had 29 points.

Speaker 01015.7s - 1017.92s

It felt like 49 points.

Speaker 61018.14s - 1019.82s

It felt like so many more points.

Speaker 01019.82s - 1022.42s

And then you compare what he did to Tatum.

Speaker 61023.34s - 1024.86s

Tatum had 25 points.

Speaker 01025.28s - 1026.66s

Tatum only had four fewer points.

Speaker 61027.16s - 1029.02s

But if Mitchell's 29 felt like 49,

Speaker 01029.18s - 1031.7s

Jason Tamum's 25 felt like five, right?

Speaker 61032s - 1033.22s

It just, like, I don't,

Speaker 41033.32s - 1035.44s

I think all points are created equal in the aggregate,

Speaker 61035.6s - 1040s

but it doesn't really feel like that sometimes. You know what I mean? It was just another quiet Tatum night.

Speaker 51040.82s - 1054.86s

It was, I was going to get there. Let me give you one crazy stat at first. Every Cavs player who played like in the rotation shot 50% or better that's only one celtics player shot 50% or better in this

Speaker 61054.86s - 1065.3s

game that's crazy like the whole cabs ORG team was doing their thing shout out to peyton pritchard for showing up tonight al horford led the starters at four for nine, though.

Speaker 51069.92s - 1075.06s

Yeah, Tatum is an obvious place to go. Look, Tatum's really good. Even when he's not scoring, he doesn't have to because they're loaded, right? But like, at some point, this is going to,

Speaker 01079.5s - 1079.58s

I mean, it's already becoming a thing, right? It's a thing, 10 boards in the playoffs. That's nice.

Speaker 61084.36s - 1091.94s

5.4 assists, good. Like, turnovers aren't that high. They're crushing in his minutes. It's really hard to nitpick a guy that good shooting 40.7% and 27% from three like that has to be better and like

Speaker 01091.94s - 1097.08s

duh he has to make shots he's their best player they've been able to get around it but you know

Speaker 51097.08s - 1103.06s

it's hard when he's seven for 17 in a game like it's hard when Derek white isn't shooting 50%

Speaker 41103.06s - 1106.66s

on nine three pointers a game gosh what he was doing coming into this game.

Speaker 51106.86s - 1109.28s

Like 20 for his last 39 or something insane.

Speaker 41109.42s - 1147.12s

Jalen Brown wasn't hitting like, yeah, it all came together. Yeah, Jalen Brown went 0 for 6. So, you know, Tatum was able to, and I hate using this word, but kind of able to hide behind the success of Brown and White PERSON, which was awesome for Boston GPE. Like, it's like, cool. These guys are ascending and doing stuff. But now, like, with those guys not, it's sort of up to you as the star player to be like, okay, they don't have it. Let me pull them up. And this has been a storyline for a couple weeks now in Boston GPE, right? The Celtics report, like Boston GPE-based media is asking, you know, does it matter thathe's not scoring a lot and that the shooting percentages aren't where it is? And they'll tell you, like, well, his screening is really impactful and his rebounding and his playmaking.

Speaker 61147.24s - 1148.4s

And you're like, all right, sick to agree.

Speaker 41148.82s - 1184.34s

Like, you're, you were, you wanted to be an MVP WORK_OF_ART candidate, man. Like screening, like, come on, like, miss me with that. At some point, you got to, you got to score the points. And I agree. And he does have a history of not in big moments. And I think that's maybe why these questions are coming, because it is a little unfair, but he does have a history of maybe not stepping up in the biggest moments when the Celtics ORG need him. You think about the 22 finals when he wasn't able to match Steph PERSON, and maybe that was too much to ask. But look, man, it happened. And so now he's getting some of the criticism. Can I read you some quotes from the post game?

Speaker 51184.94s - 1185.9s

You can. Can I, okay, quotes from the post game? You can.

Speaker 41186.24s - 1201.6s

Can I, okay, hang on. I have to say he had 50 in a close-out game to get to that finals, even though I get that, yes, your thesis is mostly correct. Yeah, he's got to do more. And it just seems weird because he's been lapped now by Shea Gilgis Alexander

Speaker 51201.6s - 1203.52s

and Anthony Edwards, who are not a book.

Speaker 01203.52s - 1208.5s

Those are, I think people would perceive them as better players

Speaker 51208.5s - 1209.64s

than Jason Tatum right now,

Speaker 41209.66s - 1247.6s

and they're having way better post seasons. Those guys went ahead and grabbed the moment, and Tatum really hasn't for a team that's supposed to be this dominant number one seed. I'm not saying they're not, but it just sort of feels like Tatum is not doing as muchas you might have thought. All right, the quotes. This is from Jason Tatum. That's the narrative that you might see on TV. We didn't have the coach of the year. We didn't have the MVP.We only had two all-stars. We know we got a good team. We're not perfect. The world thinks we're never supposed to lose. We're supposed to win every game by 25. It's not going to be like that all the time.We don't expect it to be easy. It's going to be a fun rest of the series and especially come Saturday. What do you make of those quotes?

Speaker 51248s - 1252.8s

Ooh. Just a little scrappy underdog Celtics ORG, huh? You know?

Speaker 41254.08s - 1257.92s

Oh, boo-hoo. We didn't get the coach of the year. We don't have an MVP. How can you be a super

Speaker 51257.92s - 1262.96s

team? Is it even having them a super team? They're pretty dang good. They're good. They're a really

Speaker 41262.96s - 1270.02s

good team, but I wouldn't like put them in the super team cat like i don't either right but they i should like their net rating and their win total's

Speaker 51270.02s - 1275.66s

like yeah this is one of the best teams ever i guess um i guess i just consider a super team more like

Speaker 41275.66s - 1278.96s

the super friends where it's like you know all the names and you put them together it doesn't

Speaker 51278.96s - 1282.76s

necessarily mean they're gonna like i would consider phoenix more of a super team than boston

Speaker 41282.76s - 1285.52s

just because of the names that are associated with Phoenix GPE.

Speaker 51285.72s - 1286.28s

And they failed.

Speaker 41286.62s - 1288.22s

They're not as good as the Celtics ORG.

Speaker 51289.36s - 1290.26s

Now we're just doing.

Speaker 41290.38s - 1291.4s

I hope they get aggregated.

Speaker 51292.48s - 1293.44s

I had a one.

Speaker 41293.64s - 1298.56s

Oh, yeah. Wes PERSON, I have to ask, as. Please do.

Speaker 51298.56s - 1309.5s

Since you cover the Miami Heat, what happened the last time the Celtics maybe flubbed a game two at home in this postseason? They went ahead and won the next three. And if I had to bet the next three,

Speaker 41309.78s - 1311.26s

I would bet that that's what happens.

Speaker 51311.34s - 1317.9s

I agree. And I'm not worried about the Celtics ORG at all. But I do think the Jason Tatum thing is just something worth bookmarking.

Speaker 41318.22s - 1327.22s

It's going to get, they're not going to get like, no disrespect to the calves, but they're not going to get tested in a real way in this series. They're still going to win this series. In the next round, who knows what happened?

Speaker 61327.22s - 1328.34s

He might make it test him again.

Speaker 41329.46s - 1428.72s

But if they make it to the finals, they will be tested by whoever comes out of the West LOC. And you're going to need a big Jason Tatum game. And it's not going to be cool if he's just screening and rebounding and passing to other teammates. You're going to have, he's going to have to go out and score and take over a game at least a few times if the Celtics ORG are going to really win a championship. And so I'm not sounding alarms. I'm just a thing that I'm monitoring.Just a thing. That's it. That's all we're doing here. Just things. Coming up, does the sun's coaching change really matter? We'll talk about that next.Today's episode of Lockdown NBA is brought to you by Monopoly Go PRODUCT. All right, game off. We've got to pause here to talk more by Monopoly Go PRODUCT. Speaker 31429.06s - 1494.7s

Lockdown has teamed up with State Farm to spotlight some of the greatest supporting players in NBA ORG history. You know Michael Jordan won six NBA titles and Kobe won five titles with Phil Jackson PERSON running the triangle offense, but did you know that Phil Jackson PERSON didn't invent that offense? There's one man behind the scenes that helped Michael Kobe and Phil win 11 championships in a supporting role. His name was Tex Winter. As a Navy veteran serving in the Second World War, Tex returned to college at USC, where his coach Sam Barry PERSON taught him the triangle offense. As a coach, he worked his way through the ranks in college starting at KansasState and as assistant to Hall of Famer Jack Gardner. Tex PERSON would later become the head coach at Kansas State and wrote a book about the triangle offense. In 1985, Tex joined the Chicago Bulls ORG as an assistant and helped teach second-year guard Michael Jordan how to run his triangle offense. Three years later, Phil Jackson PERSON became the head coach and the rest is history. Even legendary coach Phil Jackson PERSON needed someone like Tex Winter to support his team success. Sometimes you and I need that kind of support too. Think of State Farm like a pivotal team player. When you need help protecting the things that matter most, remember the jingle and just say, like a good neighbor, State Farm ORG is there. Thanks again for making Lockdown, NBA ORG,

Speaker 41494.88s - 1515.92s

your first listen every day before we get to our weekly countdown. The Sons ORG are making a coaching change. They fired Frank Vogel PERSON on Thursday and reportedly are closing in on former Bucks ORG coach Mike Boodenholzer to take over as their new head coach. My question to you, Tony PERSON, is how much do you think a coaching change even really matters? How much can it help the sons?

Speaker 51517.42s - 1529.76s

You know how Jalen Williams Jada PERSON barks in games? We need to make like goat sounds for scapegoat coaches. If we had prepped better, that would have been really funny.

Speaker 61530.46s - 1534.38s

Yeah, here, so I'll give you two answers. One is no, not very much, right?

Speaker 51534.42s - 1612.06s

Like, that team, the real problem is, like, they can't make material changes to their roster no matter who the coaches. So, like, yeah, they can change our identity, but it's the same team next year, right? It's basically the same team.Maybe they can, like, somehow steal a minimum point guard that makes sense for them and be a little, a little better, I guess. But Kevin Durant PERSON's older and Brad Beale's older and Devin Booker PERSON's older. Devin Booker's still young. But like that, that's the reality for the Sons ORG. So they can get better. And this is the only way I get why they think they can get better because of those roster the only way I get why they think they can get better because of those roster constraints I just discussed. Here's what I think about Mike Budenhielder PERSON.Mike Budenhielder PERSON keeps stuff simple, man. Like his defensive schemes are simple. His offensive stuff gets to the point, and I don't know that that is the like ooh awesome trendy coach but like it's it works man like the the bucks just ran through people for years and they struggled the postseason outside of the year they won the championship and he was very often criticized for his lack of adjustments but the sons need the first part they need to be good in the regular season right and now and soI actually think it could matter a little bit, but without being able to change their team at all, it's hard to see what it's going to look like.

Speaker 41612.06s - 1635.2s

That's kind of where I'm at, too. I understand why the Sons did it because they had to make some kind of change after this season. And the only real material change that they could make was to the head coach because of the cap constraints that they have with this roster because Bradley B.L. ORG has a no trade clause because you're not trading Kevin Durant PERSON. You're not. If you move any of these guys, you might as well just shut the whole thing down, blow it up and start over. And they're not doing that. Right. And they shouldn't

Speaker 51635.2s - 1641.02s

do that, by the way. So this is the super team as we just determined. This is the only, this is the only

Speaker 41641.02s - 1665.12s

move on the board. If you're going to fire Frank Vogel, which I'm not sure you needed to do in the first place, but if you had to do it, then hiring Mike Boonholzer PERSON was as good as a coach as you can get, right? And so we'll see what happens. You're right about the simplification and the structure. This is the guy who, when he was coaching the Milwaukee Bucks ORG,used to tape off parts of the court and say to his players, stand here, and you shoot threes from these spots.

Speaker 51665.58s - 1673.52s

But that's what I think is interesting is he loves, spread it out, take the threes, and they have a lot of natural not. You know who doesn't like to be right?

Speaker 41674.16s - 1675.88s

Our players don't like to do that.

Speaker 51676s - 1695.7s

Kevin Durant PERSON wants to hoop in the midrange. Devin Booker, Bradley Beal PERSON. They always want to do the midrange stuff. And I think to me the most important thing for Phoenix GPE. And maybe if Mike Booneholzer can do this great, but it's going to come down to the star players. It's going to come down to KD, Devin Booker, and Bradley Biel PERSON. They need to be more engaged in doing the little stuff. And they cannot look at their teammates the way that they looked at their teammates all season

Speaker 41695.7s - 1748.44s

and said, you're responsible for spacing the floor, for me from three. You're responsible for defending. You're responsible for rebounding. You're responsible for diving on loose balls. They got to do that stuff because I don't know how many, like they could sign like a hundred Josh Akogies PERSON.It's not going to help. They got to do it, you know? And we could talk about, oh, you know, kind of get a new backup center. Drew Eubanks PERSON wasn't super good. And maybe you'll get like a little point guard minimum guy and whatever. Like, who cares?Like that stuff's not going to matter when you're playing the Minnesota Tim playing the minnesota timbrewoles or the Denver Nuggets of the Oklahoma City Thunder it's going to matter whether or not your three star players can do stuff together and not just do stuff separate and so it's going to take some sort of powwow between that trio and figuring out okay what's the pecking order what are what are our responsibilities that we could divide up and how are we going to really attack this season and try to be better than we were last season?

Speaker 51748.44s - 1750.34s

Wait, you don't think the key to the sons

Speaker 41750.34s - 1766.02s

as Ish Smith and Cody Zeller PERSON? Maybe Ish Smith PERSON. I hadn't thought about that. All right, it is Friday, which means it's time to count down to the weekend with our weekly power rankings. Assistant player. I am a system player. I am a system player. I'm a system player.

Speaker 61767.68s - 1783.12s

It's just killing.

Speaker 41786.12s - 1787.3s

Just killing it on this show with no technical difficulties.

Speaker 61789.84s - 1790.84s

We're doing the top five retread coaches.

Speaker 41792.12s - 1833.1s

What is a retread coach? It's a coach that's had multiple jobs and keeps getting hired even though that he gets fired from other jobs. I'm defining this to kind of put some parameters around this. This coach has to have a job currently sort of or recently and has had three different head coaching jobs in the last 10 years okay wow so that it's a longer list than you would think I was going to say are there five of these there Number five, Monty Williams PERSON. Wow.Number four. I don't know. Go ahead. Keep going. Keep going. I know. You got an opinion?

Speaker 51833.64s - 1848.74s

Yeah, I just don't know how I feel about Monty Williams PERSON because I get that he did a lot of stuff that was really confusing to me, but I think he's a really good coach of good teams and maybe not a very good coach of developing teams. Like some coaches are the opposite. And so it's not his fault. He got hired by a by a crummy team he took the money i don't know

Speaker 41848.74s - 1853.22s

take the money man i have no problem with it i don't i actually i'm with i don't hate all the coaches

Speaker 51853.22s - 1857.84s

on this list people like these re-heed the pistons coach so he's got to be five he got

Speaker 41857.84s - 1862.22s

exactly sorry buddy them's the brakes but hey enjoy your 160 million or whatever it was

Speaker 51862.22s - 1865.72s

number four doc rivers okay, I'm good then.

Speaker 41868.6s - 1869.96s

Number three, Frank Vogel PERSON.

Speaker 51870.98s - 1873.32s

Oh, that's why you threw the recent line in.

Speaker 41873.36s - 1874.1s

That threw me off.

Speaker 51874.26s - 1874.68s

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 41876.06s - 1877.5s

Number two, Mike Booneholzer.

Speaker 51878.5s - 1879.4s

Man, you're on fire.

Speaker 41879.68s - 1882.66s

Does anyone get a shorter shaft than Frank Vogel PERSON?

Speaker 51883.54s - 1883.9s

No.

Speaker 41884.56s - 1889.54s

Well, he should never have gotten fired by the Pacers ORG, honestly. And

Speaker 51889.54s - 1891.24s

the Paces, the four stops. Right.

Speaker 41891.64s - 1893.88s

The Pacers, the Magic, the Lakers ORG,

Speaker 51894.42s - 1906.04s

and then the Sons ORG. The Magic didn't go up. The Lakers ORG really screwed up. The magic was a bad. The magic was his Monty Williams PERSON era. Exactly. I was going to say, the magic is my Monty Williams PERSON point. Frank Vogel with good teams is good, but he's not a developer. I already said Mike Boonewall's right number two. Exactly. I was going to say the magic is my Monty Williams point. Frank Vogel PERSON with good teams is good, but he's not a developer.

Speaker 41907.24s - 1913.64s

I already said Mike Boonewall's are number two. Yes. All right, we'll do that again. Number one, do you know who it is?

Speaker 51915.8s - 1921.1s

Oh, I don't, but I'm going to try to guess before you say it.

Speaker 41921.1s - 1924s

Five, four, three, two.

Speaker 51924.6s - 1925.42s

Tom Thibodeau PERSON.

Speaker 41925.86s - 1926.44s

Oh, doy.

Speaker 51928.5s - 1930.44s

Chicago, Minnesota, New York GPE.

Speaker 41930.52s - 1932.02s

I forgot about his Minnesota GPE stint.

Speaker 51932.08s - 1933s

I scrolled right past him.

Speaker 41933.2s - 1933.74s

How could you?

Speaker 51935.14s - 1937.42s

Your top five retread coaches, agree or disagree.

Speaker 41937.58s - 1938.62s

Would you reorder any of those?

Speaker 51939.42s - 1941.5s

I like that order, I think.

Speaker 41944.16s - 1945.04s

It's hard to say.

Speaker 51945.22s - 1948.36s

If Monty and Doc Rivers PERSON had the same,

Speaker 41948.54s - 1950.06s

the same team,

Speaker 51950.86s - 1952.18s

I might have Monty PERSON about there.

Speaker 41952.48s - 1952.94s

I don't know.

Speaker 51953.08s - 1953.46s

That's fair.

Speaker 41953.62s - 1956.98s

That could happen. Buddy coaches the Pistons ORG. Who what other,

Speaker 51957.12s - 1959.76s

well, you said there's more than three. That's surprising. What other options are there?

Speaker 41960.02s - 1961.88s

I already forgot. Hmm.

Speaker 51963.26s - 1964.24s

There wasn't a lot.

Speaker 41964.56s - 1965.88s

Quinn Snyder has two. Yeah, that's why I had to get it to three a lot. Quinn Snyder has two.

Speaker 51966.28s - 1967.88s

Yeah, that's why I had to get it to three.

Speaker 41968.88s - 1971.94s

Like, Quinn Snyder is one more job away from being a retread coach.

Speaker 51972.28s - 1975.34s

Who's this guy? The Lakers ORG coach, his name is vacant. I've never heard of him before.

Speaker 41975.92s - 1978.14s

He's been, he's had a couple different positions.

Speaker 51979.14s - 1996.12s

He's been busy. Yeah, usually short-lived. Thanks for making Locked on NBA your first listen every day. Every day is make sure you subscribe on YouTube, Odyssey PRODUCT, and wherever you get your podcast. Locked-on has launched the first ever national sports 24-7 streaming channel on YouTube ORG.
