Speaker 290.7s - 96.12s

Tough night tonight, tough one, but we regroup. We figure out what we need to do as a collective and then we bounce back the best we possibly can. Speaking of which we're meeting

Speaker 196.12s - 100.58s

at the collective tomorrow on Wednesday in OKC GPE if you're here. If you need to support.

Speaker 2100.58s - 104.62s

That's a sign. Wow. The synergy is just out of this world.

Speaker 1105.2s - 105.84s

You want to know, something, Nick PERSON? I Wow. The synergy is just out of this world. You want to know something?

Speaker 2105.84s - 106.08s

Nick PERSON?

Speaker 1107.5s - 109.32s

I was going to come up if the Mabbs ORG won.

Speaker 2111.82s - 112.32s

Damn it.

Speaker 1112.38s - 114.48s

The Mabbs ORG is just taking all these things from us.

Speaker 2116.06s - 117.78s

Took our bro time away from us.

Speaker 1119.52s - 119.84s

Unbelievable.

Speaker 2120.04s - 121.08s

Literally ruining friendships.

Speaker 1121.66s - 206s

Oh, they really are. So we'll talk about the Mavs ORG. We'll talk about some of the good things we saw in this game one. Mab's lose game oneazz. We'll talk about some of the good things we saw in this game one. Mavs lose game one. But we'll talk about some of the good things we saw. Gafford PERSON is absolutely a playable player in this series. So we'll talk about him. We'll talk about stuff we saw from Josh Green PERSON. We'll talk about the more they could get out of Kyrie Irving PERSON pretty easily. We'll talk about that. We'll get into all the other things that happened in this game. I want to talk about the refs and Tony Brothers PERSON for sure. We'll get into that. There was a moment in this game that is something I've never seen in the NBA ORG before. And I don't know that anyone has because I don't know that this happened before. So we'll talk about that. But we've got to start here slightly. The Mavericks will absolutely lose this series if they get that version of Luca PERSON.I would calculate based on my calculations. We got a 50% Luca PERSON game. That's Luca at 50%, maybe less than that. 19 points, 6 of 19 from the field, 1 of 8 from 3. So that means he still went like, what, 5 of 11 on 2s, which is actually not that bad.6 of 10 on free throws, 9 assists, 5 turnovers for Luca PERSON. He played just about 41 minutes, and none of his shots really looked that great in this. And the three days rest, maybe that is worse. If you're dealing with this injury, he's been dealing with this right knee sprain. He was probable coming into this game, so he's still listed on the injury report. He played. Obviously, he's going to play if he can. But if they getthis version of Luca PERSON, they are not winning this series, and they could get swept easily. Yeah, that's why

Speaker 2206s - 218.26s

we were saying before we started recording. I'm like weirdly at peace. The sky's like not really falling for me at all yet after game one because it is game one of a series. Guess what? In the Jason kid era, we've seen them lose every single

Speaker 1218.26s - 219.98s

one of these. So this shouldn't come as much

Speaker 2219.98s - 227.28s

of... How many of them have been close? I remember the jazz one was close. I feel like every other one has been like a blowout almost. Where you're like,

Speaker 1227.36s - 233s

what the hell did I just watch? Yeah, the Suns ORG ones, all of them were blowouts. The Warriors one was a blowout because I was there.

Speaker 2233.64s - 237.1s

And then the Clippers one was not a very fun experience either.

Speaker 1237.1s - 238.4s

No. But,

Speaker 2238.44s - 242.16s

I think I'm one and four now in O-A ORG playoff games.

Speaker 0242.76s - 243.02s

Oh,

Speaker 2243.08s - 243.78s

that's a toughie.

Speaker 1244.4s - 249.08s

That is a toughie. Should I come home? Should I not be here for game two? Get out there. They split in O'A ORG playoff games. Oh, that's a toughie. That is a toughie. Should I come home? Should I not be here for game two? Get out there.

Speaker 2249.08s - 250.38s

They split in L.A. GPE when I was there.

Speaker 0250.46s - 252.04s

They split in L.A. So. All right.

Speaker 2252.46s - 256.66s

But, yeah, I mean, you're 100% right. If this is the Luca PERSON you're getting, because this was the worst game he's had in the playoffs.

Speaker 1256.92s - 270.04s

And weirdly enough, this was like, this was like the worst he's looked physically, which is a little bit surprising because I thought the end of game five and game six of the Clipper EVENT series, like, was the best he looked in that series physically. So I was like, all right, maybe he's, you know, I talked to people.

Speaker 2270.16s - 307.36s

I had a physical therapist on my show and they're like, yeah, he's just not going to get better until he doesn't do anything and just rest for a while. Like, it's just not an injury that'll go away. But I thought maybe he learned how to play with it or something like that or like how to properly manage the pain and get to the stuff he wants to do while dealing with the injury tonight was really really rough and he's clearly laboring like we're not coming on here saying luca ORG is trash like this is terrible like blah blah blahhe is clearly in a compromised state and yeah you're 100% right if this is how the look you're going to get and it's funny because you you want to say well you're not going to get this luka again well i don't know you really might like the way that's been this postseason, like, it's very possible you get this Luca PERSON again.

Speaker 1307.98s - 311.86s

There was a moment at 634 in the first quarter, like halfway through the first quarter.

Speaker 2312.52s - 313.68s

Ludoort took a three.

Speaker 1313.78s - 314.3s

He missed it.

Speaker 2314.42s - 318.44s

Luca flew by on the closeout, and Ludoort PERSON kind of kicked his leg out a little bit,

Speaker 1318.5s - 372.2s

and Luca PERSON tripped, and he landed sort of awkwardly on his knee. And he was slow to get up, and I was just watching him as he was kind of laboring going back to the bench after like a timeout a couple seconds later. And he took his shoe off during the timeout. I don't know that I've seen him take his shoe off in the middle of a quarter in a timeout. And to me, I just wonder how much he was dealing with it. And maybe that moment right there, he heard it a little bit more or something like that because he just did not look right at all. I mean, none of his shots looked great. And I think the time off is bad for him, right? Like it feels like with some of that stuff, you want to have the rhythm and you want to just like the momentum of just keep pushing through it. It's almost like, you know, if you ever like, if you tweak your ankle like playing basketball or something, you can like keep going for a littlebit. And then when you go home, you're like, oh, my God, my ankle is so bad. And it's so bad. And that's from like a, you know, a little ankle tweak. This is a knee sprain that he's dealing with from a professional athlete.

Speaker 2372.2s - 382.72s

So, I don't know. We'll see. I'm fascinated to see how Luca looks in game two, right? This Mavericks ORG team has responded. But other than that, the big difference in this game was OKC's just got hot from three.

Speaker 0383.18s - 391.52s

I mean, that was kind of the thing. The Mavericks ORG were still sort of in this game. They cut it under 10 in the fourth quarter at a certain point.

Speaker 1391.52s - 395.7s

And, like, they were in it in the second half at a certain point,

Speaker 2395.78s - 398.72s

even without the rest of the game. In the third quarter?

Speaker 1399.22s - 404.54s

Yeah, there was a one-point game at a certain point. And then OKC just started bombing from three. What did they go 11 of?

Speaker 0404.98s - 428.24s

They went 11 of 19 from three in the second half.'s 58% the maps went 7 of 17 but from you know from three and then that half but still like the thunder just got hot from three they have better shooters they had a whole week off you know you can talk about rest versus rust i don't know what i believe with that but it it all just comes back to, if this is the version of Luca PERSON you get, you are not going to win this series because he was not great in this.

Speaker 2429.2s - 437.66s

Yeah, and you got to tip your cap. I thought, it wasn't like the Mavericks were just getting killed, and there was just wide open shooter after wide-upon shooter. The Thunder ORG hit some tough shots in this game,

Speaker 0437.7s - 441.74s

and that's what they can do. This isn't some, like, anomaly, like,

Speaker 2441.76s - 486.8s

oh my God, who are these guys hitting threes? Like, this is who the Thunder ORG can be. Like, they can get hot from three. We've seen it it all season long we saw it in the pelican series so you just got to tip your cap and yeah it's it's going to be really difficult when the thunder are you know getting hot from three and even then i actually thought the maverick's defense was pretty good in the second half of the game when the when the refs sort of let them play alittle bit more physically i thought they did a good job closing off driving lanes like They were forcing the Thunder ORG to take some pretty difficult threes. And again, the Thunder ORG were just knocking them down. Like you just kind of have to tip your cap. But yeah, man, it really does. If they're going to hit threes like that, knock down threes, you need your superstar or MVP to be able to match that level offensively. And yeah, if it's just, if this is just a look you're going to get it, that's going to be very, very difficult.

Speaker 1487.34s - 504.3s

One of my big keys going into this was that the two stars, the Mavericks two stars, had to thoroughly outplay, the Thunder's two stars, like thoroughly. Like they had to be maybe both better, but at least Luke had to be better than SGA ORG, and then Kyrie had to be better than Jaila Williams PERSON.SGA finished with 29 points, 11 of 13 from the free throw line,

Speaker 0504.36s - 529.12s

most of those in the first half. He had nine rebounds, nine assists too, and this one only two turnover, so he had an amazing game. Luca PERSON, we went over his stat line. Kyrie only gave you 20, which is just not enough for him, 14 shots. It's efficient. Like, he had an efficient night, but he just didn't have enough volume for what the Mavericks needed to pick up what Luca PERSON wasn't giving you,and then to actually go and win this game. So that didn't work. And then Jalen Williams, he gave you 18 points on the other end?

Speaker 1529.22s - 531.46s

He had some tough shots, six of 15 from the field.

Speaker 2532.16s - 533.08s

Fourth quarter, he was great.

Speaker 1533.9s - 536.92s

SGA ORG was the best, but then it was kind of a wash with the rest of them.

Speaker 2537.64s - 539.7s

I think J-Dub was the second best player comfortably.

Speaker 1540.92s - 544.18s

I mean, 10 points on 4-4 shooting in the fourth quarter to, like, ice it.

Speaker 2544.68s - 544.9s

Yeah.

Speaker 1545.88s - 558.84s

Yeah. Yeah. So you're just not going to win. That's that simple. Rises and falls on these stars, and these stars have to be better. And Luca PERSON is dealing with the injury. Kyrie PERSON.What do you think was up with Kyrie PERSON? Let's just do that. Well, yeah. What do you think goes up with Kyrie PERSON? It just wasn't aggressive?

Speaker 2559.52s - 568.42s

Yeah, I mean, it was just the classic Kyrie PERSON thing. Like, I'm just going to take four shots in the first half. Four turnovers in the first quarter. That was really weird. So sloppy start.

Speaker 0569.04s - 573.42s

Sloppy. That's the best way to describe it. Just kind of out of character stuff there in the first

Speaker 1573.42s - 595.8s

quarter from Kyrie PERSON. But yeah, I think that, you know, it's clearly something that they like doing and something Kyrie PERSON likes doing, which is starting the game, kind of letting his teammates get the feel of it. But with Luke PERSON had compromised, he just might have to, there just might have to be an adjustment where it has to be a more aggressive. Maybe Kyrie finishes the first quarter, first half with 14 shots or something like that. And it's just he sets the tone offensively.

Speaker 2595.86s - 603.12s

Like that just might have to be the adjustment. And I don't want to like blame Kyrie because it's clearly like what they've done all season long, but there just might have to be

Speaker 1603.12s - 610.16s

an adjustment to it. Well, they did that, what, and it was a game five or game six? Kyrie came out swinging a little earlier of the Clipper EVENT series.

Speaker 2610.76s - 625.16s

It can be done, but yeah, if Luca PERSON's going to be like that, it has to be something that you recognize immediately as Kyrie PERSON and start going and clock in a little earlier than he did in this one. 14 points in the second half for Kyrie, but you need a little more if Luca PERSON's going to be like this,

Speaker 1625.22s - 788.76s

and that's kind of the whole takeaway of this. But coming up, there are some other things that the Mavericks ORG definitely had it going against them. There's decisions that were made. There were fouls that were called. There was a Tony Brothers PERSON moment. We'll talk about all that, explain what we mean with the Mavericks ORG coming up. Thanks everybody for hang out with us on Lockdown Maps ORG. Being part of the show, part of the Raccoon Squad, listening every day. We appreciate each and every one of you for stepping up and listening to the show even after a game one lost. The Mavericks ORG lose. Lukadans PERSON just doesn't look like himself. Kyrie Irving PERSON not aggressive enough. A couple of issues with the Mavericks ORG, and those were the biggest ones. But there are some other reasons why the Mabbs ORG didn't win this game slightly. And I want to start with this one.The Mavericks ORG felt like they had a chance at the end of this game. It felt like they had some kind of a chance. Really? At the end, they cut it to like 9. There's like 8.30 left in the game. You're like, all right, if you go in a little bit of a run here, boom, like you can feel the momentum maybe shifting and the Mavs ORG can get some back. Dallas ORG decides to go small. They're kind of last ditch effort to do anything in this game to like adjust at all. The Mabs ORG go small. Luca, Karee, Derek Joan, Jr., PJ, WASHEN, Tim Hardaway, Jr. a last-ditch effort to do anything in this game to adjust at all. The Mabs ORG go small. Luca, Kyrie, Derek Jones, Jr., PJ PERSON, PJ, Tim Hardaway, Jr.I cannot believe that Kid PERSON went with Tim Hardaway, Jr. In that small ball lineup late. Makes absolutely no sense to me. I cannot make heads or tails. Can you make any sense of that decision late? That's the decision you go. All right, we got one last chance to really get this going. I just can't believe Tim PERSON was in that lineup to end the game.

Speaker 2789.32s - 795.56s

I have no real explanation for it either. Outside of, outside of one, the, the thunder were going

Speaker 1795.56s - 800s

uber small when that lineup was put out there too. Chat was out there. Super small. No, no, no, no.

Speaker 0800.06s - 814.3s

Whenever they first went to the lineup, chat was not out there. He subbed in later, but it was literally like, I don't even know who you would classify as the five. Like, it could have been J-Dub. I had to go back and rewatch, but they were like super small. And, um, yeah, I don't know, man, I don't know.

Speaker 2814.44s - 832.18s

We talked about it. Like, they think Tim PERSON is a much better defender. It's funny on the pregame show, Kenny PERSON was like, and trust me, these guys know basketball. Kenny, Kenny was like, yeah, Tim Hardaway Jr. PERSON, he's going to pick up Shea PERSON in this series. And I was like, you know what's hilarious? He's probably right at some point. At some point, that's going to be an adjustment that they go to or something.

Speaker 1832.5s - 833.82s

He'll get switched on to him.

Speaker 2834s - 844.48s

And, Kenny PERSON, be like, see? See? I told you guys. Okay, well. Yeah. But I just don't understand that decision at the end.I know it was like the last thing. And maybe Tim PERSON gets hot and that's maybe your last chance to come back from.

Speaker 0844.78s - 845.78s

That's what it was. A deficit. Like, that's the decision that was made. But the way Tim PERSON maybe Tim gets hot, and that's maybe your last chance to come back from. That's what a deficit.

Speaker 2845.94s - 847.32s

Like, that's the decision that was made.

Speaker 0847.4s - 858.76s

But the way Tim PERSON played in this game, I just don't understand that decision. He got beat a couple times. OK, so you've got on a 9-2 run. And the game is done. And kid calls the game with like 5-14 left. And that was what really put the nail in the coffin.

Speaker 2858.88s - 860.18s

But it's not the rest of the maps lost.

Speaker 1860.8s - 870.82s

But that was the end of the game, and that was the last decision and last like attempt to try something different that kid and the Mavericks ORG tried. And I just, I do not understand it. It makes no sense to me.

Speaker 2871.54s - 875.54s

Look, I'll, I'll throw some, I'll throw some bail for our newly extended head coach.

Speaker 1875.72s - 883.54s

Like, I do, he does feel out game ones. He might have just been experimenting with a small, like they're going to have to invent small ball lineups. Zero and five.

Speaker 2883.74s - 903.62s

They're going to have to invent small ball lineups on the fly here. They're going to have to invent small ball lineups on the fly here. They're going to have to go into uncharted territory for what they've done this season. And I just think in that moment, the thunder just red hot from three, you know you're going to have to match with shooting. I don't agree with it. I don't think it was the right decision, even with the power of hindsight. Like Tim, in the small ball lineups, we talked about all year how terrible they are.

Speaker 1903.9s - 905.92s

If we see that in game two,

Speaker 0906.06s - 910.9s

that's what I'm cool to be like, what in the hell is kid thinking? But as of right now,

Speaker 1910.96s - 913.88s

I'll just kind of toss it away. They do it in the second quarter.

Speaker 2914.52s - 922s

And I don't think you need to go small. I know why they did it for shooting, but your big's played well enough that that shouldn't be like a something that you rely on.

Speaker 1922.64s - 924.18s

Gafford at 16 and 11 in this game.

Speaker 2924.3s - 926.46s

I mean, we'll talk about his success,

Speaker 1926.72s - 928.5s

but I think the other thing that needs to be talking about,

Speaker 2928.58s - 943.84s

O'KC got hot, that was one of the, that's the biggest reason why they won. But that second quarter, when they started to really go on a run and took that nine, you know, that nine point league going into halftime, they had 14 of 17, they went 14 of 17 for free throws in the second half, or in the second quarter.

Speaker 1944s - 967.78s

The second quarter, 14 of 17. That is, that is a lot lot of free throws the mavericks just weren't allowed to play physically i said this several times during the game if the defense that the minnesota timbrewold was played against the nuggets in their game too if they played that game here if they played like that they would have all fouled out every single one of them because of the calls that were being made in that second quarter now they let it go a little bit in the third quarter yeah and let them play a little

Speaker 0967.78s - 972.32s

more but man that second quarter it just threw off all the rhythm of anything that you could get going

Speaker 2972.32s - 990.1s

at all and it was so frustrating it was like the comparison to the timbrel's nugget series EVENT it's like if you saw that compared to this thunder mavs gate the second quarter it's like and this is the this is how the Mayans played it whenever they first invented a basketball like sport where they would literally kill each other on the floor

Speaker 1990.1s - 991.82s

and then they would flash to the Thunder ORG game.

Speaker 2991.82s - 1011.88s

And it's like this is what all NBA ORG haters think that the NBA looks like every single night. It was terrible. I mean, and we, I feel like we, especially me, I'm a pat myself on the back, never come on here and talk about the refs, ever.Like, I just think it's usually just so low on the list. And I think ultimately, by the end of this game, it was kind of like further down on the,

Speaker 01011.88s - 1019.86s

on the list of reasons for the maps. But that second quarter was abysmal. I mean, they can't, you can't, ultimately the reps are going to set the tone for what's allowed

Speaker 21019.86s - 1020.36s

in a series.

Speaker 01020.72s - 1042.66s

And if you're giving Shay PERSON some of these horrible, disgusting calls where he's creating all of the contact, I'm not even asking for an offensive foul. Like, that's fine. Just let it be no calls. But to give him like some of those foul calls and Aaron Wiggins got a call on a drive where he just threw his body at Gafford PERSON with no real intent of finishing a layup at all just trying to draw contact. Like, you can't call those. You just cannot call those in the playoffs. And yes,

Speaker 11042.8s - 1048.06s

Luca PERSON got some of those calls too where like they showed a replay. The one where he like pump fixed twice in the air and like they threw it up. You're like, those in the playoffs. And yes, Luca got some of those calls, too, where, like, they showed a replay. The one where he, like, pump-fix twice in the air, and, like,

Speaker 21048.1s - 1078.4s

they threw it up. You're like, I don't know that he really got hit on that play. It was just, it felt just so many inconsistent calls in this game. And I think that it set a tone in a way. SGA had a, uh, a hundred and10% free throw rate at halftime, which free throw rate is the amount of free throws taken per field goal attempt. He had 11 field goal attempts and 11 free throw attempts and 10 field goal attempts, which is just insane. He normally has like a 39% free throw rate. That was wild. And there was

Speaker 11078.4s - 1124.46s

a moment in this game that I'd never seen before. They show the play where Kyrie strips Chet PERSON and Chet flings his head back and he may have gotten hit on the nose but he flings his head back and you know and all that and they're showing that replay over and over on the video board during this time out. And this OKC GPE crowd, they show up. It's very loud. If everybody wearing shirts was an OKC GPE fan and everybody not wearing the shirt was a Mavs fan, they outnumbered the Mavs fans 98% to 1 to 2%. Like there was a lot in here. They geo-blocked the tickets. They did all that kind of stuff to try and make sure there was Thunder ORG fans. This building is also, if you've never been here, this building is small. It is honestly probably like two-thirds of the size of American Airlines Center FAC. I can probably reach up and touch the ceiling right now.Like the roof of the arena, it's so low.

Speaker 21124.46s - 1125.44s

You're a tall guy though.

Speaker 11126.66s - 1162.32s

And it's not as tall as you that you're 6'5. So the, but the roof of here is so low. And so it's so much louder in here. There's times you couldn't even hear the whistle being called on the, on the floor. And so they're showing this replay of Kyrie stripping Chet PERSON over and over again. And everyone's booing. There's refs you suck chance starting. And I'm going, what are you guys looking at? Like, why are you all freaking out? And then on the video board, in the middle of this timeout, I don't know if you guys got to see this on TV at all. They put Tony Brothers PERSON on the video board by himself full screen. Nothing else.

Speaker 01162.66s - 1208.48s

No Kairon, no lower third. Like Tony Brothers PERSON, his 78,000th playoff game that he's ever officiated. Nothing like that. They just put him on the video board by himself and the whole crowd starts booing. It's maybe the loudest it got the whole time. And Tony Brothers PERSON looks over and he looks up at the video board to see what they're booing at. He realizes it's him and he just like throws a little smile at the camera. And it just goes on with his business. And then the second quarter happened and then they got all those foul calls and then all that happened it made absolutely no sense to me and it was one of the weirdest things i've seen in an NBA ORG game where the in arena ops crew put the referee on the video board like by himself just like serving him up on a platter for these fans just boo him like they're definitely getting a note from the league office, right? Like, there's no way you can just do that.

Speaker 11209.1s - 1215.22s

You think so? Probably not. They've probably done it before. Have you ever seen that? I've never seen that an NBA ORG game. I asked Peter McCowski PERSON.

Speaker 01215.32s - 1221.16s

I was on Locked on Sports today. Go listen to Lockdown Sports today, by the way. I was on there today with Peter Rakowski PERSON.

Speaker 11221.28s - 1226.88s

And I asked him, I was like, have you ever seen that in the NFL ORG? He's like, I think that they're not allowed to in the NFL ORG. Like, they're literally not allowed to put the right.

Speaker 21226.88s - 1229.74s

NFL ORG would probably literally kill you if you did something like that.

Speaker 11230.38s - 1265s

But I could not believe that they just put him up there and served him up on a platter to these fans who are ready to, who booed him when he got introduced before the game. They said, these are the referees. And they put like the graphic up there on the video board. Like it's, you know, this guy, this guy, this guy, Tony Brothers PERSON. They booed him then. It was, that was wild. But you can't tell the story of this gamewithout the officiating and without the calls we made and it set the tone and this mavericks team wants to play physical they want to play hard-nosed defense they want to get in these mucky games and you can't do that if you're not being allowed to muck yep muck if you buck and the mabs couldn't muck and they couldn. Nope, they didn't muck nor buck.

Speaker 21266.16s - 1269.26s

I will say they, I think they did muck it up in the second half.

Speaker 11270.26s - 1270.9s

They tried.

Speaker 21271.1s - 1272.56s

They did their best, they did their best, too.

Speaker 11272.62s - 1275.76s

They had some moments, and then, but coming up, let's talk about Gafford PERSON.

Speaker 21275.84s - 1277.78s

Because I thought Gafford was the one bright spot in this game.

Speaker 11277.78s - 1280.12s

We'll talk about how good Gafford PERSON was in this.

Speaker 21280.5s - 1284.28s

What's repeatable from all these other things that happened in the game.

Speaker 11284.34s - 1331s

We'll talk about that coming up. Today's episode is brought to you by Monopoly Go PRODUCT. You know, we've been talking about Monopoly Go PRODUCT. It's a fun game. Speaker 01332.14s - 1399.22s

This is Jake from Lock Dawn ORG. Locked on has teamed up with State Farm to spotlight some of the greatest supporting players in NBA ORG history. You know Michael Jordan won six NBA titles and Kobe won five titles with Phil Jackson PERSON running the triangle offense, but did you know that Phil Phil didn't invent that offense? There's one man behind the scenes that helped Michael Kobe and Phil win 11 championships in a supporting role. His name was Tex Winter PERSON. As a Navy veteran serving in the Second World War, Tex returned to college at USC ORG,where his coach Sam Barry PERSON taught him the triangle offense. As a coach, he worked his way through the ranks in college starting at Kansas State and as assistant to Hall of Famer Jack Gardner PERSON. Tex would later become the head coach at Kansas State ORG and wrote a book about the triangle offense. In 1985, Tex joined the Chicago Bulls as an assistant and helped teach second year guard Michael Jordan PERSON how to run his triangle offense. Three years later, Phil Jackson PERSON became the head coach and the rest is history. Even legendary coach Phil Jackson needed someone like Tex Winter PERSON to support his team success.Sometimes, you and I need that kind of support too. Think of State Farm ORG like a pivotal team player. When you need help protecting the things that matter most, remember the jingle and just say, like a good neighbor, State Farm ORG is there. All right, Sightly PERSON, let's talk about the rest of this game.

Speaker 11399.36s - 1421s

Let's talk about Daniel Gafford PERSON because I thought he was the bright spot in this one, even though normally Daniel Gaffert shoots 100% from the floor. And this one, he shot 5 of 12. He attempted a couple of shots from outside of the restricted area, which is he's usually not used to. But 16 points, 11 rebounds, five offensive rebounds, went to the free throw line eight times, hit six of them, had five blocks in this game. What did you see from Gafford PERSON?

Speaker 21421.88s - 1433.86s

Yeah, I thought Gafford PERSON was absolutely awesome in the series. Everything that we kind of wanted him to be, I think he was, and I think lively, lively kind of looked like a rookie out there tonight where I feel like, I feel pretty confident

Speaker 01433.86s - 1438.1s

that he'll settle in a little bit in the series. But Gafford was awesome. The one thing that I

Speaker 21438.1s - 1443.02s

think that you could have from Gafford PERSON is, hey, like, you could take a dribble, you know?

Speaker 11443.12s - 1445.72s

Like, I feel like he was starting. They tried it in the second half.

Speaker 21446.28s - 1465.46s

It felt like he was starting his gather and like his attack at the rim, like way too far away. It led to him like, like you said, taking some shots outside the restricted area that are just not really his game. But no, I thought he was really good. Five blocks as well, five offensive rebounds. Like he was exactly what you wanted Daniel Gafford PERSON to be. And that is a positive side.Like there's not, I know the score was terrible.

Speaker 11466.02s - 1471.16s

There's not, I just don't feel like the sky's falling that much right now.

Speaker 21471.16s - 1474.84s

When the game was like still in play, it was a 10 point game basically the whole time.

Speaker 11474.96s - 1476.32s

And then the Thunder got hot from three.

Speaker 21476.5s - 1477.4s

Luca PERSON couldn't hit shots.

Speaker 11477.5s - 1480.9s

The Mabs ORG couldn't hit shots. And then boom. Then it opened up.

Speaker 21481.4s - 1502.52s

And the MAPS called this game with five minutes left. So the final score doesn't tell you what the game was. But, yeah, and, man, this OKC GPE group was ready. They were, like, hungry and ready for that moment where it just all kind of opened up for them. And they have more stuff that they can show, too. I mean, Jalen Williams PERSON didn't have that great of a game in this shooting the ball.

Speaker 11503.3s - 1521.96s

And they took their foot off the gas in the fourth quarter it felt like a little bit so they have more to show but the Mavericks ORG absolutely have more and I think Gafford's the first one where you can say okayat least we have a center with Maxie PERSON out that takes away a lot of versatility the Mavericks ORG really desperately wanted to go to a lineup like that for some spacing that they just couldn't go to

Speaker 01521.96s - 1538.76s

but it's got to be Gafford and it's got to be him finishing plays being physical he. He almost outplayed Chet by himself. One of my keys was if Chet outplays both Lively and Gafford combined, then that's bad news for the Mavericks ORG. Like, they just can't have that. They have to have the production of Gafford and Lively PERSON be better

Speaker 21538.76s - 1544.68s

than what Chet PERSON gives them. Yeah, and Chet was still pretty good in this game. But I definitely feel

Speaker 11544.68s - 1561.54s

like Lively PERSON held his own. I'm sorry, Gafford PERSON held his own. I think we feel really good about that for Mavs ORG fans. The thing that the Mavs ORG needed to win the series, which is the dominant size, I do think they got. And I think Gafford will even be better than 5 of 12 in the next game.

Speaker 21562.78s - 1564.94s

Yeah, they know that he knows the type of shots he's going to get now.

Speaker 11565.02s - 1568.44s

So, like, he's just got to be ready to, he's got to be ready to take some of those

Speaker 21568.44s - 1587.36s

because at a certain point he goes, should I take this? And you're like, yeah, man, you're deep in the post. You've got to turn around and take one more step, get to the rim, especially when a giddy is switched on to you or, you know, a Kason Wallace PERSON, you know, or somebody like that is switched on to you. They're going to be small.Like the thunders help the low guys. The thunder. They're going to be small. Like the thunders help the low guys. The Thunder ORG low men are going to be small.

Speaker 11587.78s - 1591.5s

Like this isn't like even the clippers could have like Paul George PERSON down there who's a big

Speaker 01591.5s - 1602.52s

body, right? He's a bigger forward. But like the clippers or the thunder will have like a guard straight up under the basket. And it's got to be Gafford PERSON going up and finishing those. And he was good at it tonight. Yeah.

Speaker 11603.08s - 1615.42s

So Gafford PERSON was good. He brought some stuff defensively too. He blocked five shots. I thought that he was powerful down there. The so gafford ORG was good he brought some stuff defensively too he blocked five shots thought that he was was powerful down there the mavericks still had some a bunch of plays where they couldn't finish where the like how many offensive rebounds 16 offensive

Speaker 01615.42s - 1626.6s

rebounds for the thunder uh yeah some of those were just like from long threes they yeah they were just unlucky shots and things like that uh that bounced the rim. But yeah, any other positives?

Speaker 11626.78s - 1636.44s

I think PJ Washington had an okay game, 10 points, six boards. He had foul trouble and that really kept him out. He had those three fouls pretty early in the game. He only played, what, nine minutes in the first half?

Speaker 21636.54s - 1664.02s

So that's something that could change too in the next game. Yeah, I thought PJ Washington played well. I mean, he had some nice floaters like over chat. So that was nice to see. That's a very comfortable shot for him. I thought Derek Jones Jr. PERSON did Derek Jones Jr. things. I thought he was really good defensively. Shea played well, but I think that his defense was pretty solid tonight. And I thoughtJosh Green PERSON gave you some great minutes as well. So your role guys really played pretty well. This is what I'm saying, like, this is where I'm kind of at peace where it's like, okay, well,

Speaker 11664.02s - 1671.7s

if this is just how Luca PERSON is and it's 50% Luca, then you're never winning the series. Yeah, right. Then you just got to live with it. Yeah. And that's just,

Speaker 21671.82s - 1681.44s

it sucks, but I mean, it's just the reality. I mean, there's not a lot to say outside of that. Nobody watching Luca PERSON from a few months ago, Luca now thinks that this is the same player.

Speaker 11682.04s - 1685.88s

You can't. I mean, there's just no way. And it's a documented injury.

Speaker 21686s - 1692.8s

It's not like we're making something up. It's like, oh, it's a back. It's a back injury that has been unreported. You know, it's like, it's been right now spring. I've got a back injury.

Speaker 11694.28s - 1727.38s

You've just been carrying this podcast for every post game for all time. Josh Green at 11 points, four rebounds, three assists, and hit three-three-threes was two of four from three to start the game, which was massive. He had a corner three on both sides, which those corner threes are open. They're going to give them that corner three. They really, really need to hit those. And Josh Green PERSON getting a little confidence, that's a positive, especially when apparently XM is just unplayable, which I don't really understand that. He played, what, three minutes? He played garbage time, but he played three minutes basically before that.

Speaker 21728.14s - 1739.18s

I am a little surprised as to how quickly they are, you know, cutting him off. I just, I feel like they kind of need them. They definitely do.

Speaker 11739.26s - 1771.1s

They need somebody to switch, especially with Derek Jones Jr., four fouls, PJ Washington, four foul. They need one more perimeter defender to go at J.L. Williams, SGA. They need one more ball handler to take the pressure off of Luca and Kyrie PERSON. When Luke and Kyrie have these guys right up into their grill, you know, playing, playing them, doubling them, things like that. You need one more release guy. And Exum had been that guy and had been so good for the Mavericks ORG. And all of a sudden, if you take the Mavericks team from the last couple months of the season, and you remove Maxi and Dante X-M PERSON from them, like they just look so different. They look so much more.

Speaker 01771.14s - 1784.04s

And you take Luca down to 50%. That's what we're talking about right here. It's like that version of the Mavericks ORG team just does not exist right now because of the two role players that are out because of injuryand aren't playing because of a coach's decision, I guess.

Speaker 11784.04s - 1790.86s

And then, well, he's not playing because he didn't look good in the Clipper series EVENT, I guess. Let's give some credit there. But, yeah, that's rough.

Speaker 21790.86s - 1792.12s

Are we, like, are we missing something?

Speaker 11792.32s - 1799.14s

I feel like he's not, like, blowing defensive assignments. Like, I. Well, he only played three minutes here, so there's not really anything to take him.

Speaker 21799.24s - 1806s

Like, from this game. But from the Clipper EVENT series, he was not that great. I mean, offensively, he looked timid. Defensively, I didn't think he was that bad.

Speaker 11806.2s - 1813.24s

But what gets me, though, is that he'll go with Tim PERSON for as long as he did and close with Tim.

Speaker 01814.12s - 1823.9s

The way Tim PERSON was playing. And, like, you look at what Tim brought to this game and what Exum brought to the Clipper EVENT series. You're like, I just don't get, there's a disconnect there that I just do not understand.

Speaker 21824.74s - 1828.4s

It's this logic that it's like we know that Tim can get hot from three and we need to

Speaker 11828.4s - 1829.1s

get them hot from three.

Speaker 21829.7s - 1831.84s

And it's just, it hasn't been there for like three months.

Speaker 11832.52s - 1846.66s

Exum shot 50% from three in the regular season. So it's like, if you're going to put like precedent on something, it's like, okay, well, what if Exum gets hot? Because he can. He's won them, he won them several games this season, hit in threes. I just, we must be missing something where it's like,

Speaker 21846.78s - 1850.46s

has Exxham PERSON been that disastrous? Where it's like, we are not even, like,

Speaker 11850.46s - 1852.16s

one minute you miss a shot, you're done,

Speaker 01852.16s - 1858.38s

like you're done for the rest of the game. I don't, we must clearly, because, you know, we're not the, you know,

Speaker 21859.3s - 1878.16s

there's people who are smarter of basketball than us. You know, I do think kids smarter when it comes to basketball than me, believe it or not. He is in the Hall of Fame ORG. I'm just here nursing a back injury that I suffered playing pickup basketball yesterday. Butyeah, I don't know.

Speaker 11878.3s - 1879.3s

My brain scrambled.

Speaker 21880.94s - 1882.52s

I just don't understand that decision.

Speaker 11882.82s - 1885.1s

And it wasn't the reason why the Mavericks ORG lost, the Luca PERSON thing, you know, the three-point shooting't the reason why the Mavericks lost The Luca thing

Speaker 21885.1s - 1905.1s

You know the three-point shooting of the thunder The free throws all that But like if you're trying to If you're looking for stuff I just don't understand why XM doesn't get a shot When he was so good for you the regular seasonAnd brought so much Dynamicism Especially with Maxi out I thought XM was going to be I have to be the guy to step up I thought he was going to be the guy who got the minutesYour team just becomes so much more static And not dynamic If Exam can't play was going to be, I have to be the guy that step up. I thought he was going to be the guy who got the minutes.

Speaker 11908.22s - 1920.76s

Your team just becomes so much more static and not dynamic if Exum can't play and Maxi is not available. It's like, whoa. All of a sudden they look like. Yes. So much more on Luca and Kyrie PERSON then. We'll see.

Speaker 21920.82s - 1938.9s

We'll see what game two holds. I really don't think the sky is falling because, you know, we were here a couple weeks ago after the Clippers game one where it's like, what just happens? Oh, they suck again. Yeah, it's like, what is this going to be a sweep?Like, that's where your mind always goes. But then if you win game two on the road, then you're right back up and you're on top the world. So.

Speaker 11938.94s - 1944.92s

Yeah. If Luca was 15% better in this game, they could have won, you know? It's like. Yeah.

Speaker 21946.46s - 1948.64s

And look, this is, you said it, and you brainwashed me

Speaker 11948.64s - 1951.68s

because you said it after game six

Speaker 21951.68s - 1954.02s

where you're like, I feel like this could be a short series either way,

Speaker 11954.06s - 1955.3s

and I've been thinking about it, and I was like,

Speaker 21955.56s - 1959.3s

I kind of actually agree with you just because of the play styles here

Speaker 11959.3s - 1961.82s

are so different that it feels like whichever one wins out,

Speaker 21962.1s - 1963.58s

like it will be almost convincingly.

Speaker 11963.58s - 1968.66s

So if that's the wrap this is going, then tonight's obviously definitely not a great sign,

Speaker 21968.78s - 1973.38s

but we could also be very wrong, and this could end up being a seven game, you know, drag him out series.

Speaker 11974.14s - 1977.3s

Yeah, the Mabs ORG will win games by mucking it up, like we said before,

Speaker 21977.48s - 1980.12s

and just the Thunder ORG won't be able to score in those games.

Speaker 11980.2s - 1991.16s

And you'll all of a sudden look at it be like, oh my gosh, this Thunder ORG team who looked unstoppable and whose offense was amazing has been held to like 100 points per hundred possessions or something like that. You know, it will look like that kind of game.

Speaker 01991.7s - 1993.96s

And they just didn't get one like that. And so there you go.

Speaker 11994.18s - 2015.72s

That's what we had in this game. We'll be back tomorrow with more breaking this down. Check us out and come hang out with us at the collective in OKC 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May the 8th. It actually is May 8th right now as we're recording this as we have hit the midnight hour. But there you go. Guys, thanks for just listening to Lockdown Mavs ORG.Peace out. We'll be back.
