Speaker 10s - 14.66s

It's the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team every day. You are Locked on Dodgers Postcast ORG.

Speaker 015.5s - 22.36s

Part of Locked on Sports Los Angeles on the Locked on podcast network, your team every day.

Speaker 332.2s - 69.96s

All right, let's see if this works we have put way more way more effort into this normally do uh i i i think it's fair to say jim that this will be the first locked on crossover uh that has been done on the network so i'm i'm happy to be i'm the first postcast host i feel very privileged that this is done on the network. So I'm happy to be, I'm the first postcast host. I feel very privileged to be that. This is the first crossover that we will be doing. I am Pete Fox PERSON.This is the Lockdown Dodgers postcast on the Lockdown Sports LA ORG YouTube channel. He is Jim Greasehober, also known as Greece GPE. Very simple. And it is locked on sports Miami and the locked on Miami Marlins ORG podcast feed right

Speaker 269.96s - 74.18s

and wherever you get your podcast wherever you listen why does my microphone want to keep spinning

Speaker 374.18s - 78.92s

that way of course but yes of course Pete PERSON this is we're pioneers is what you're telling me

Speaker 278.92s - 99.78s

I mean you see the gray hairs we're old radio guys here well we don't see your gray hairs we see mine but I'll tell you this, man, being pioneers right here, locked on your team every day, your sport every day. And it's a lot of fun to be a part of some history. I really enjoy this right after the game's over. We can go coast to coast, baby, from the MIA to L.A.

Speaker 3100.58s - 137.3s

Yes, this episode brought you by Price Picks, the easiest, the most exciting way to play daily fantasy sports. Go to Pricepix.com slash locked on MLB and use code all lowercase locked on MLB for your first deposit match up to $100. Well, Max Muncie showed Dave Roberts a thing or two today, Greece GPE. He said, all right, I hit three home runs and then you put me on the pine. Well, guess what?Tonight, I'm going to come out and hit a grand slam. So I don't know. Can we assume that Dave Roberts is going to sit Max Muncie down tomorrow for the finale at noon? Is that probably a safe assumption to make?

Speaker 2137.94s - 209.7s

I mean, for a catcher, right? You almost have to. It's a day game after a night game. And after the night that he's had, though, the problem is when you're bat's that hot, you don't want to sit that guy on the bench. Maybe he DHSs, you know, with a hot bat like that. Who knows? But I do know this, man. You told me this when we were doingprep work to get ready for this show. And, you know, I mean, everybody loves to be in the orbit of the Dodgers. It's a superstar team. You have stars from the Far East LOC. You have stars from every continent, it seems, in the world, even though you don't. But it seems like you do. So the press hoard is huge. You know what I mean? So the Dodgers are just that team right now in Major League ORG.It used to be the Yankees ORG. Now it's the Dodgers ORG, right? And so whenever the rest of us get to kind of orbit around the mothership that is the Los Angeles Dodgers, it's a treat. And the Marlins ORG are not a good team. You know, Pete, it's been a bad year.Spire sales kind of underway here. A rise has gone to San Diego GPE. I was joking with you earlier that, you know, you might see a couple of Marlins ORG guys who don't make the trip out of L.A. with the Marlins ORG by the time this series is over. But you told me as we were getting ready to come full circle that the Dodgers ORG only score on home runs. And that's almost completely true. Again, tonight, Moncie, a big part of that with the Grand Slam EVENT.

Speaker 3210.44s - 294.72s

Yeah, I mean, it's been remarkable. 16 of 17 runs, 16 of their last 17 runs, they got one tonight on a sack fly, have come via the home run. Now, that's one of those things. You know, you live and die by the home run. It's not a good place to be in. It's kind of like live by the sword, die by the sword. If you'regoing to live and die by the home run, if the bats go quiet for a little bit, it's going to be a problem. I don't know that that will be a problem for them. I look at this team right now and I say they're not doing much wrong of anything, which is also fun to watch now, but I don't know that it means much now. It's good. It's fun. It's easy. It's, you know, makes my job easy. It's not like it's complicated to break down one of these games because all they do is mash and strike people out tonight, another fantastic pitching performance. And I do love the fact that the Dodgers ORG let their starters go deeper into games whenthey've got it working. Now, it still remains to be seen whether or not if somebody had a no hitter at like 102 pitches, whether they would leave him in. But today, Yamamoto worked into the eighth inning. You know, he pitched eight innings and took care of business, you know, had the fastball working. They threw out some stat in the game where, like, he had 16 consecutive first ball, fastball strikes. That's how dialed in he was tonight.

Speaker 2295.22s - 321.62s

And he gave up the home run in the first, right? And he settled down. But you're right. It was the control for him tonight. First pitch strikes. And that's a key, right?Pete, I just wanted to jump in where you said that because first pitch strikes all night long, low pitch count, no worries about the pitch count. And then he gave up the, you know, the run later in the game. But really, he had an easy night. And that comes when you throw first pitch strikes. Yeah, I have this thing that I always look at and

Speaker 3321.62s - 336.12s

focus in on what the Dodger ORG starter does to the first three batters of the opposition, right? And I feel like that gets them off on the right foot if they can set the side down in order to start the game. Well, when Jackson PERSON, it's a home run

Speaker 2336.12s - 342.26s

to lead things off. Right. A tad bit uneasy, but it happened last night too, right?

Speaker 3342.64s - 344.66s

He's not getting on the plane back to Miami GPE.

Speaker 2346.64s - 349.14s

That's the last thing that Dodgers ORG need is more outfielder.

Speaker 3349.42s - 351.86s

So I think that's the thing.

Speaker 2352.02s - 356.2s

Maybe not, I'm not saying he's going to stay in L.A. GPE, but that doesn't mean he's going back to Miami GPE either.

Speaker 3356.52s - 358.88s

If he can pitch, maybe they might be interested.

Speaker 2359.18s - 365.72s

But, you know, last night, two runs, a home run. You have to go to the MASH unit to find the Marlins ORG pitchers, though. Yeah.

Speaker 3366.62s - 435.36s

So Yamamoto gave up the home run to Jazz Chisholm PERSON to start the game. And then from there, really settled down. Freddie Freeman PERSON continues his on-base streak. So he had a hit tonight. He's now been on base 16 consecutive games. And then, of course, you know, he walked. No, he did not walk. Sorry. How did he get on base? I can't remember. But, of course, you know, he walked. No, he did not walk. Sorry. How did he get on base? I can't remember. But they loaded the bases up for Max Muncie in the bottom of the first. And he took care of business going opposite field. And for me, I love it when batters hit home runs opposite field because it's just so much more technically sound. And it's just flat out easier to do, right? You don't have to worry about pulling your to do right you don't have to worry about pulling your hands in you don't have to worry about getting through the ball as much going opposite field with power to me is perfection and that's exactly what max monty did with that home run it was a380 foot home run came on a four seam fast ball it was his ninth home run of the season so yeah he had three last time out and then got sat down, Doc Rivers PERSON, or I mean, Dave Roberts, Doc PERSON, I was calling Doc Rivers, but Doc put him on the bench after three home runs. I don't believe he'll be on the bench.

Speaker 2435.36s - 436.66s

Dr. Rivers PERSON on vacation already.

Speaker 3437.5s - 439.54s

Did they fire him? Is he fired in Philadelphia GPE?

Speaker 2440.38s - 447.5s

No, he got hired by Milwaukee halfway through the season, and they lost in the first round again after they lost in the first round last year.

Speaker 3447.72s - 454.82s

They've had three coaches in a little over a year. And, yeah, that's the number one seed two years in a row. He's a fantastic coach.

Speaker 2454.82s - 456.16s

Great job, Doc PERSON. Lobb City GPE.

Speaker 3456.76s - 667.34s

Clips cutting the nets down, Lob City GPE. Wouldn't you be surprised if they fired him already, not even giving him a full season? I think he'll make it through next year to just kind of make it his team. But anyway, we're not here to talk basketball. We're here to talk baseball.Dodgers with an eight to win. They're now 25 and 13, 14 and 8 at home, riding a six game winning streak. My question for you, Greece GPE, and we're going to talk about it after the break, has to do with this Marlins team as we see it today right now this season compared to last year. So I have I have some very tough questions for you. So get ready for that. We'll hit the first break. And then we'll talk more about this Dodger win, the 8 to the final. They're sixth in a row. This is the Locked on Dodgers postcast, the Locked on Marlins postcast. We're doing a crossover. So you can see it both on the Lockdown Sports ORG LA YouTube channel and the LockdownSports Miami YouTube channel, if everything goes as planned. All right, Dodgers ORG take care of business, winning another series, 8 to the final. It was pretty much over by the bottom of the first, I think. We said we were both going to come up with a turning point for the game. For me, it's pretty easy.

Speaker 2668s - 669.3s

It was pregame warmups.

Speaker 3670.62s - 684.94s

The Max Muncie Grand Slam was the turning point of the game. I was thinking about you because what was Muncie batting tonight? Fourth. No, one, two, three, four, five. He was batting fifth.

Speaker 2685.2s - 685.62s

Five whole. And I think you were probably thinking, well, two, three, four, five. He was batting fifth. Five whole.

Speaker 3685.98s - 692.96s

And I think you were probably thinking, well, we're doing fine. Shohei Otani PERSON did not hit a home run in the bottom.

Speaker 2692.96s - 693s

Right.

Speaker 3693.8s - 696.08s

He has not hit a home run in the game tonight.

Speaker 2696.18s - 697.44s

He did not hit a home run in the game tonight.

Speaker 3697.64s - 703.66s

Yeah, an off night for him, sort of, got on base twice via the walk and then flyed out to left field.

Speaker 2703.94s - 729.4s

And he crushed that one to right field, though, Pete PERSON. That was a bullet. I mean, they had him played at the track pretty much. I mean, it just is what it is when you're showing. And you talked about it earlier when we were prepping for the show together. His swing is not a thing of beauty when you look at it.It's just not a thing of beauty, but it is at the same time because of what he does with it. And some people are just that great where they can do almost everything wrong and get everything

Speaker 3729.4s - 775.96s

right. Well, he's just, I mean, he's so strong. That is something that cannot be overstated, how strong this dude is that he's able to, uh, you know, fly out the way that he does. But I will say of late through this streak that he's been on over the past four or five games, he has been keeping that front side in a whole lot more. And he's dropping that foot down there. The timing on his home run balls has been so perfect. It's like he's just, you know, it's a, I think there, yeah, he's been hitting both fast balls and off speed. But, you know, these balls are coming. Even the sinkers and the off speed pitches arecoming 85 miles an hour. And he's waiting. He's like, all right, let's go. And it's, it's not even close to him getting beat, right? Because he's, his timing right now is so locked in.

Speaker 2775.96s - 802.94s

So he's definitely got it rolling. And the conversation about him being the MVP this early in the season, I think is maybe a little premature, but how can you avoid that conversation? He's batting 365, which leads the league. He has the most home runs in the league. He has the most base hits in the league. And I believe a slugging percentage just tops in the league as well at 696. And the guy who hits in front of him is hitting 340 with 27 RBI. So there's this competition right there.

Speaker 3803.3s - 806.82s

Yeah, and he's having a little bit of a cold streak right now. He's slumping at

Speaker 2806.82s - 812.98s

349. Mookie Beds, of course, we're talking about. Oh, for three tonight. So here's my question for you. I was like,

Speaker 3813.3s - 837.42s

you know, you're right, this Marlin ORG team seems to be struggling, but they have what appears to be a lot of young talent. You can obviously see that. You mentioned the pitchers. These guys have good stuff. They have, you know, sharp cut action on their on their breaking balls. They throw the ball hard. These guys have good stuff. They have, you know, sharp cut action on their, on their breaking balls. They throw the ball hard. These guys have a lot of potential. But correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't this team in the playoffs last year?Weren't they good last year? They were.

Speaker 2838.06s - 838.3s

They were.

Speaker 3838.44s - 839.58s

What happened?

Speaker 2840.14s - 840.54s

Okay.

Speaker 3840.54s - 844.78s

So, well, your best hitter leaves and goes and signs with the Giants three years, 42 million.

Speaker 2869.5s - 977.38s

Obviously, So that was a big loss in the middle of the lineup. And you just replace a guy who obviously had a big year last year for them. And so you just can't replace that. You can't replace that team who had 20 home runs or more. And you lost a guy who hit in the 30s. So you just don't replace that guy in the middle of the lineup on that team. Also, and I talk about this every night, Pete PERSON, this is one of the things that really has to happen when you're talking about a sport like baseball where everything's dictated by payroll, everything is dictated by payroll, right? So when you're a team like the Marlins ORG that doesn't have a lot of money to spend on payroll, that doesn't want to pay the luxury tax, that doesn't want to, you know, you have to keep it close to the best. They don't draw. You know what I mean?So when that happens, you can't spend the money. So you have to be great at, you know, Billy Bean, right, Moneyball WORK_OF_ART. You have to be great and you have to do really great job projecting what players are going to do. And you have to say, okay, this is this stage of so-and-so's development. He should take this leap this year and maybe hit 280 with 21 homers as opposed to 260 with 14 lastyear. And that player has to make that jump. You have to be right. You can't afford to be wrong when you don't have the luxury of those greenbacks behind you, right? Dodgers, Yankees ORG can lose two-star. If Kershaw doesn't pitch all year, Dodgers don't even miss them. I mean, let's be real. But when you're a team like the Marlins ORG, you can't miss. You can't have any injuries. You can't have anybody underperform. You can't not sign anybody to replace the guy in the middle of your lineup who hit 30 plus home run. I mean, there's a lot of factors here. And we haven't even talked about the injuries because at one point last week, we were at a place with the Marlins where 47% of the innings pitched by this staff from a year ago was on the injured list a week ago.And that hasn't really changed. So that's a lot of arms in the mash unit. That's not replacing your best hitter in the middle of the lineup. Berger was injured for part of the year. He led the team in RBIs for 10 straight days while he was out with 15 and no one passed him.And then Lewis Arise PERSON becomes your hottest hitter in your lineup. And of course he's going to. As soon as he starts spraying the ball all over the field, he's doing it in San Diego GPE.

Speaker 3978.54s - 988.64s

Well, my other question is how much of this is on the shoulders of Derek Jeter PERSON? How far out of that whole Derek Jeter thing are the Miami Marlins ORG at this point?

Speaker 2989.06s - 990.58s

It just hate Derek Jeter PERSON.

Speaker 3990.58s - 992.84s

Is it still part of it?

Speaker 2992.84s - 993.76s

No, no.

Speaker 3994.14s - 1000.78s

No, no. I mean, it's more like I just think that it's really just been,

Speaker 21001.24s - 1069.4s

they're trying to move forward and this new ownership group is doing the best they can. But when the team goes out and there's a lot of guys who have, they had a lot of faith in this team, they go out and they play the way they've played. And I do want to add one more thing, Pete, because they've been really bad this year. You know what I mean? I mean, they've scored six runs in the first inning only to lose a game. When they get great pitching, they don't get any hitting. When they get great hitting, they don't get any pitching. It's just been that year.Last year, early in the season, and I forget the number. I wonder if I could find this somewhere because I, you know what? You can find anything these days in Google. But early in the season last year, they won a ton of one-run games. And you know what I mean? They, so many close games early in the year last year. And that's something that that's luck. That's something that, you know luck. That's something that, you know, everything seems to be going your way when you're winning those one-run games. And the Diamondbacks last year were a team like that. They took it all the way to the World Series. So the Marlins ORG, yeah, so here it is. I found it. On May 10th,the Marlins set an MLB record 12th consecutive one-run game one to start a season, jumping the 19 1972 New York GPE, that's World Series team that started 11 and 0. There you have it.

Speaker 31069.64s - 1071.36s

This is why you need to be locked on every day.

Speaker 21071.74s - 1073.04s

This is it.

Speaker 31073.12s - 1104.62s

Yeah. So, you know, I can understand they're going through a rebuilding process right now. And, you know, like it's part of, it's part of the game. I feel like in the NBA ORG, there is a lot of teams that have this kind of to draw a parallel between the two. I feel like there's a lot of teams in the NBA ORG that are kind of going through what the Marlins are going through right now, like the Oklahoma City Thunder ORG,like the Minnesota Timberwolves, who are very, very good and are going to have a real decent shot, a legitimate shot of winning the title this year. So, you know, it could just be

Speaker 21104.62s - 1105.86s

right. I haven't lost a playoff game yet.

Speaker 31106.32s - 1107.54s

It could be right around the corner.

Speaker 21107.62s - 1111.32s

Shout out to Sam Eckling, our postcast manager, big Wolfs ORG fan.

Speaker 31111.66s - 1136.4s

The thing is, you know, a lot of teams look at you Marlin ORG fans and say, hey, it could be worse. You've made it to the playoffs four times in your existence, and you have two World Series EVENT trophies. So, you know, don't cry in my beer, says the Seattle Mariner ORG fan. So I don't want to, I don't want to, you know, rub it in too much that they're strugglingthis year. But, you know, you've got some.

Speaker 21136.44s - 1138.38s

What about the Oakland A's ORG fan? Oh, yeah.

Speaker 31139s - 1140.94s

I mean, they're losing everything.

Speaker 21141.06s - 1145.28s

They've lost the Warriors ORG. They've lost the Raiders ORG twice. Now the A's are going to Vegas GPE. But at least they're over 500. They're 19 and 17 this year lost the Warriors. They've lost the Raiders twice. Now the A's are going to Vegas.

Speaker 31145.58s - 1148.64s

But at least they're over 500. They're 19 and 17 this year.

Speaker 21149.24s - 1151.56s

And they've got the third most home runs in baseball.

Speaker 31151.68s - 1191.42s

They're a fun team to watch. We just played them. And it was fun. Yeah. Nice win there. You know, another big part of this game for the Dodgers, Gavin Lux PERSON,his first home run of the season. Where are all the comments about how Gavin Lux PERSON sucks and how he can't swing the bat anymore? I know it was two years, basically, since he did not hit a home run. What do the ones to say? Jeff and Vince PERSON,who do the Lockdown Dodgers ORG postcast, going live over our channel pretty soon after Pete PERSON is done here. If any, all of you guys want to jump on over there after this. Cool. So more content about Dodgers ORG. Those guys are all of you guys want to jump on over there after this. Cool. So more content about Dodgers ORG. Those guys are fantastic. So be sure to check them out on the Locked on Dodgers WORK_OF_ART podcast feed.

Speaker 21191.46s - 1191.88s

We'll do.

Speaker 31192.24s - 1217.86s

Locked on Sports LA YouTube channel. So that's cool. Vince PERSON is at the game quite frequently. I don't know if he was there tonight, but he's there quite frequently. Real up close and personal inside perspective to what's happening there at Chavez Ravine.Andy Pius, basis-loaded sack flat tonight. That broke the streak of not scoring via the home run, but he's been on fire and you can't

Speaker 01217.86s - 1222.62s

argue or feel the least bit let down by what he's doing, even when he strikes out three

Speaker 31222.62s - 1228.04s

or four times a night, that one night a couple nights ago, which broke his 10-game hitting streak.

Speaker 21228.12s - 1265.26s

He's just been on fire for a rookie. Their offense is so good, man. Look at this. I mean, Mookiee bets and Otani combined to go O'Fer 5, and they still score eight runs. No sweat. Easy night when those two guys are. Most teams, this is what I'm talking about, Pete PERSON. Most teams can't afford to miss. The Dodgers can have those two guys go 0 for five on a lot of nights and still win and still win big. And they're just loaded. And for this team, you're going to hear it all year long. It doesn't matter what they do now.It makes no difference whatsoever. Fast forward the clock a few months into the playoffs and the postseason. That's all that matters for this team, period. World Series EVENT win or bust.

Speaker 31265.94s - 1271.64s

Yeah, the bottom of the lineup is something that gets a lot of focus. The fans are worried about that.

Speaker 21271.98s - 1272.82s

They should be.

Speaker 31273.12s - 1325.52s

It's an embarrassment of riches, but you have to find something to focus on that needs improvement. Dodger ORG fans have very high expectations. And even when you've got these top four guys in the lineup and Will Smith is still you know batting well over 300 at 330 and you've got max Muncie hitting home runs and Teoska Hernandez PERSON hitting home runs they're like yeah but what about Chris Taylor or what about James outman he's still struggling so youknow I think uh I think they as you pointed out, the depth is overwhelming. The lineup is almost fully complete. But, yeah, there's still some holes. And I think in order to win a World Series EVENT, you're going to have to fill those holes at the bottom line. You're not going to be able to have guys like Gavin Lux and James Outman and Chris Taylor PERSON,you know, batting below the Mendoza PERSON line in the playoffs.

Speaker 21325.7s - 1330s

You got some Marlins ORG. You can take your pick. Red tag right now. All right.

Speaker 31330.32s - 1331.38s

70% off.

Speaker 21331.82s - 1332.94s

Time for our final break.

Speaker 31333s - 1360.72s

So this one's on you, Jim PERSON. I'll jump out. And you can handle this final break. And then we'll come back and get into Yamamoto PERSON's performance a little bit more because it was also superb and quite spectacular. So this is our first attempt at the locked on postcast crossover, Jim Grease PERSON, Greece, Greece, hober in Miami GPE.No, actually you're in Phoenix, but you're doing covering the Miami Marlins ORG on the Locked on Miami WORK_OF_ART sports YouTube channel. Speaker 31457.1s - 1471.86s

There's terms for everything. So well done. Yes, I, I'm a fan of the, all of those things that bring things to the house, whether it's DoorDash or Amazon ORG Prime, you know, that's just, how did we ever live without DoorDash and Amazon Prime ORG? I mean,

Speaker 21473.74s - 1478.08s

I'm about to order some DoorDash ORG right now, man. I think it'll be here right by the end of the show. Perfect, maybe about 15 minutes later.

Speaker 31481.88s - 1482.56s

It's remarkable how we ever survived without cell phones and DoorDash ORG.

Speaker 21485.44s - 1489.36s

Dodgers was an AIMO could have ordered DoorDash on the mound tonight. Wouldn't have stopped. He was in a groove. That guy's unbelievable, man.

Speaker 31489.4s - 1520.3s

He's fun to watch. Can you see him in the dugout, eating some wings or something? The sauce all over his face. Oh, I better get out there. But he went eight, which was remarkable. He gave up two runs on five hits, struck out five, 97 pitches.I have been a critic of Yamamoto PERSON's, not because he has underperformed, just because I can't overlook, as much as I know it's unfair to him, I can't overlook what they've spent to acquire him without saying,I don't know that he's worth that.

Speaker 21520.74s - 1522s

Well, can I just read you something?

Speaker 31522.12s - 1523.42s

He had two bad starts, right?

Speaker 21523.42s - 1539.42s

But in his wins, no runs, no runs, no runs. You know what I mean? He's not. He's the thing about him, though, he walks a lot of people. That's one thing you got to worry about heading into the playoffs down the line. He walks a lot of guys.I'll say that.

Speaker 31539.74s - 1570.76s

Yeah, none tonight, though. So 5Ks, the fact that he went into the 8th, it's nice, but you got got that run cushion they're not too terribly worried about it but i i feel like he's definitely improving from where he started to where he has now i think he's he's he's gained a lot of ground he's becoming more comfortable with the ball he's becoming more comfortable with the strike zone he you know his breaking stuff is is is definitely his hammer but I don't think it's that consistent. I feel like the fastball, though, is solid. You know, it's mid to high.

Speaker 21570.76s - 1573.76s

Yeah, it's on a regular basis. And it's moving like crazy.

Speaker 31574.22s - 1578.52s

Yeah, for a very slight guy, he's not a big guy. You know, what is he? Nine something.

Speaker 21579.4s - 1582.72s

So I, you know, between he and Bueller PERSON, they're not big guys, but they get it done.

Speaker 31583.94s - 1585.5s

Bueller PERSON's like six,2, isn't he?

Speaker 21585.88s - 1586.98s

He's real thin, though.

Speaker 31587.28s - 1596.14s

Oh, yeah. Well, he put on some weight, though, after this injury. They were talking about that last night because he just felt like he was too skinny, and he was like,

Speaker 21596.18s - 1606.94s

I need to gain some weight and just be stronger all around. Yeah, he's 6-2, so not quite. By the way, Max Muncie's the Dodgers' third basement. He looks like he should be a catcher. You're right, but he's the Dodgers' third basement. looks like he should be a catcher. You're right. But he's the Dodgers third basement.

Speaker 31607.68s - 1626s

Did I say call him a catcher? When did I do that? Yeah, at the beginning when I said he, you know, was the reason the Dodgers won this game, basically. But speaking of catchers, it's like, what up? What happened to your catcher guy? You could tell he was frustrated and trying to pick somebody off at third. I mean, we haven't seen that since Little League ORG.

Speaker 21626s - 1634s

He fired Betancourt fired it down into left field and gave the Dodgers another run. And he just had this just look of disgust. Is it Bettencourt or Bethancourt PERSON?

Speaker 31634.68s - 1645.16s

Yeah, Bethancourt. That's a tough one, man. I mean, it happens, right? Full speed. The game's coming at you. I've caught. You've probably caught over the years. I know you're a coach, but it's a, but I never.

Speaker 21645.56s - 1650.48s

They always make it look so easy, man. Catchers make it look so easy. But Beth, he's having, he's really

Speaker 31650.48s - 1655.24s

struggling at the dish. He's hitting under 100. He's at like 0.087 or something like that.

Speaker 21655.24s - 1659.54s

And it just is not a good year for him right now. And that's another one of those guys.

Speaker 11659.84s - 1664.62s

I mean, if you look at the batting averages up and down the Marlins ORG lineup, they have a couple of guys in

Speaker 21664.62s - 1678.74s

the middle hitting 200, Bell and Burger. You got under 100 for Bethincourt. I mean, if you look at the batting averages up and down the Marlins lineup, they have a couple of guys in the middle hitting 200, Bell and Burger. You got under 100 for Bethincourt PERSON. I mean, 205 and 203 for Gordon and Anderson, Sanchez 245. I mean, that's just miserable. You're not going to win anything with guys performing like that.

Speaker 31679.14s - 1683.56s

Yeah, it's tough. You can see the frustration on Bethincourt PERSON's face when he threw that ball down there.

Speaker 21683.64s - 1693.16s

They even talked about it in the broadcast. They were kind of like, he's just trying to get an out. You know, whatever I got to do. It's, you know, it's nearly impossible to pick somebody off at third base.

Speaker 31693.16s - 1712.66s

It's tough, and it's tough to keep fighting through and playing through what they're doing and what they're dealing with every day. You and I were talking about this earlier. It's tough to keep yourselves motivated. Dave Roberts PERSON, you mentioned him. He's going to be doing a lot of tinkering all year long just to try to keep this team motivated as they smash everyone. It's the opposite for the Marlins ORG,

Speaker 11712.66s - 1725.1s

but both are extremely difficult to keep yourself motivated to keep playing that way. And in the case of a losing team, to get better. But in the case of a Dodgers ORG, to keep that intensity level and that performance level where it is.

Speaker 31725.4s - 1759.08s

Yeah, I think that's where he's going to really earn respect from Dodger fans if you can get them deep into the playoffs and hopefully to a World Series EVENT because you're right. In July and August, when they're probably going to be up, you know, if everything continues like this, I don't think anybody would be surprised that Dodgers are 15 games up in the West LOC. So that's going to be hard to stay motivated. Of course, you know, the headline in the clubhouse is, you know, World Series EVENT or bust or something to that effect. But Craig PERSON brings up a pretty good point here. Give me your thoughts on this. Freddie Freeman PERSON hasn't had a day off in a long time. Right.

Speaker 01759.08s - 1764.34s

No, Hey, Otani PERSON. So, you know, they're in the middle of a six-game winning streak right now.

Speaker 31764.68s - 1777.42s

Early start tomorrow at 1210. There's a probably fair likelihood that one or both of those guys do not play tomorrow. I don't know that Freddie Freeman has not played first base all season, you know.

Speaker 21777.52s - 1784s

So what do you need a day off for? I'm old school. Play. You're a, you're a player. You get paid a ton of money. Play.

Speaker 31784.34s - 1785.12s

You don't need a day off.

Speaker 21786.12s - 1793.94s

It's a long season. It's a long season. Go dig ditches and put up electrical power lines. Tell me it's a long season. Get in the lineup and play.

Speaker 31795.24s - 1809.92s

You've got to get a day of rest every now. And then like Freddie Freeman PERSON, we talked about this before the show, that he's a guy batting nearly, it's $2.93 right now and continues to just have this look of sorrow and grumpiness on his face that he's not

Speaker 21810.32s - 1816s

living up to his own expectation he's struggling hard on himself to a certain extent sweet swing though

Speaker 31816s - 1821.6s

pete he's got a sweet swing especially when he's going the other way yeah as i've said i love it

Speaker 21821.6s - 1825.32s

when people go opo when he's hitting the ball over the shortstop's head, he looks fantastic.

Speaker 31825.48s - 1829.24s

He homers last night, you know, and you can't, look, he's in a murderer's row.

Speaker 21829.34s - 1832.26s

You got Mookie and you got O'Tonnie in the one and two holes.

Speaker 31832.36s - 1836.56s

And then you got, I mean, Freddie PERSON right there, he's going to feel that pressure when the guy in front of him.

Speaker 21836.62s - 1854.18s

And look, when Otani PERSON's hitting home runs like he has, what he has, what he have four and three games before tonight, when those bases are empty. Every time you come up, up you know you're missing those rbi opportunities as well so he's got to take them when he gets them you're in a lineup full of killers and you've got to just take your opportunities when they present themselves but you know

Speaker 31854.18s - 1868.26s

he's going to do it over the course of the season it's just it's greece what about this suggestion bc says 156 games it's actually 162 games it It's not 1924 anymore, BC ORG, but I understand. You were close.

Speaker 21868.7s - 1874.8s

I think that's what he's saying. I think he's saying there should be 156 games in one day off a month. Okay.

Speaker 31875.08s - 1881s

But one day off a month, I'd be fine with that. That's not too much to ask. Because really, when you think about it, these guys are playing.

Speaker 21881s - 1890.48s

Well, then don't, then they'll go take the unpaid. One day off a month, unpaid. You know what these guys make per game? You can't make that much to sit on

Speaker 31890.48s - 1894.96s

the bench. You're a ballbuster. Well, then what about the pitchers? I mean, they, you know,

Speaker 21894.96s - 1903.46s

they only pitch once every four or five days. They're from their own planets anyway, but, you know, they're worth the money. You have to. And I'm just teasing the players. You know, I'm old school.

Speaker 31903.66s - 1909.36s

Getting there and play. I'm glad you're not my boss. know you don't get a day off ask the lot asked the locked on

Speaker 21909.36s - 1916.08s

lakers guys if coby was taking days off i don't think so uh well yeah that's true he's a you know

Speaker 31916.08s - 1925.08s

but coby's rare i mean coby's a different breed he came from a different uh planet as well i mean that guy i don't think anybody worked harder than that guy in the

Speaker 21925.08s - 1935.16s

history of the game. Maybe you didn't see Steve Garby taking days off or Davy Lopes PERSON or Kirk Gibson out there on one leg. I mean, this is the Dodgers ORG we're talking about. Yeah, those guys,

Speaker 31935.28s - 1950.34s

that's, you're right. It's a different time, though. It's a different time. And I, you know, I just want to keep these guys healthy. My goal is long term, right? I don't care if we lose this game. We're all we've got to won the series. Those guys have a day off and it benefits them down the road. Then we're all good. It's a win, win, right?

Speaker 21950.46s - 1953.44s

Maybe Piazza PERSON should have taken more days off early in his career.

Speaker 31954s - 1956.58s

And now that I think back, yeah, maybe a few, a few more.

Speaker 21957.82s - 1961.54s

He was, remember when he was just, oh, those were fun days. Wow.

Speaker 31961.9s - 1968.1s

Look at this. Jeff PERSON is throwing shots. How did Pete PERSON find a, he's a more grumpy old man than him?

Speaker 21968.32s - 1971.04s

I'm not a grumpy old man. I just want them to pay for their money.

Speaker 31971.28s - 1973.94s

How much does it cost to go to a game? Jeff PERSON,

Speaker 21973.96s - 1975.68s

get me a mortgage so I can take my kids.

Speaker 31975.92s - 1981.58s

Just to be clear, Jeff PERSON, you're as grumpy if not grumpier than I am. And Pete PERSON,

Speaker 21981.64s - 1982.98s

I stand corrected on Yamamoto PERSON.

Speaker 31983.14s - 1998.22s

I fell victim. I looked at the wrong column. He doesn't walk anybody. Never mind. I was looked at the wrong column. He doesn't walk anybody. Never mind. I was looking in the wrong spot. So there's two mistakes we can correct right here because we're accountable.I think we're all a little grumpy when it comes to breaking down sports. You know, we can't just all be here back patting the whole time.

Speaker 21998.32s - 2003.7s

Well, when your team's this good, I mean, I was talking to you before we went on where they are and I'm not going to repeat it because it's boring.

Speaker 32003.7s - 2083.22s

Too many stats anyway in baseball, but where the Dodgers sit offensively in every category except triples, number one. Yeah, well, everything's going good right now. All the Dodger ORG fans are hoping for is that they can keep it rolling, you know? That's the thing. I'm sure there will be weeks during the dog days of summer where it starts to get bleakand they're going to go on a losing streak and it's going to be bad for a, you know, sure there will be weeks during the dog days of summer where it starts to get bleak and they're going to go on a losing streak and it's going to be bad for a you know five to seven maybe 10 game stretch it's bound to happen it happens to every team every year no matter how good they are so right now we're just enjoying it and basking in it and when it rolls around i mean look that first homestan they lost seven of nine and to the Padres ORG, which none of us like to see that. So they've already done it once. They'll probably do it one or two more times. But right now it's good. And so we sit here and we look to the future. We look to our crystal ball and say, hopefully this will continue, right? And they'll be more winning than losing. And they'll be at the right level of, you know, being in sync at the right time of the season when the playoffs start. And they just have to figure out a way to deal with that week off between the wild card and the start of the NLDS. And then there's the Marlins who are 10 and 28.

Speaker 22083.82s - 2087.08s

And they're already making plans for summer vacations.

Speaker 32087.32s - 2093.98s

Well, they're making plans on shipping some more players to other places to get rid of payroll and try to get whatever they can back for it.

Speaker 22093.98s - 2122.1s

But Arias is gone. Chisholm PERSON's going to be gone. These two pitchers who you saw the last two days, you'd never know it by these last two games. But Cabrera and Rotary, Munoz PERSON, they're electric and they have a lot of potential. You saw tonight, Cabrera PERSON, the action on that fastball, and he throws some gas, man. So the future can be bright for these guys, but again, the business plan and the modus operandi this year is dump, dump, dump.

Speaker 32123.28s - 2136.24s

Rebuild, rebuild. Well, you know, let's hope the Dodgers ORG can tinker and fine tune a little bit at the trade deadline. I don't think they need much, but they'll probably try to make something happen to keep things rolling and keep them moving in the right direction.

Speaker 22136.42s - 2176.56s

All right. Thank God for the Rockies ORG. Exactly. All right. That's going to do it. Jeff, we have made it through five minutes longer than we should have. And I think I told you that it flies by. But I think all in all, you know, A minus B plus for our first crossover, having never done this thing before, I think we did okay. So congratulations. We'll do it again. You want to try again tomorrow and see how it goes? Give it a shot, man.I'll do it tomorrow. You did it today. We'll just, we'll do one each. And the Dodgers will complete the three game sweep over the Marlins tomorrow i mean you have to assume they will but you'll also see a couple of dodgers probably taking the day off gen z PERSON right yeah they need a mental break

Speaker 32176.56s - 2182.18s

a physical break it's a mental break jim it's a day of mental rest and the gen zers will be okay

Speaker 22182.18s - 2185.98s

it's a work life balance come on come on. Come on. Get with the times,

Speaker 32186.06s - 2187.98s

old man. All right. He's just

Speaker 22187.98s - 2190.04s

grease. You're raising your voice.

Speaker 32190.36s - 2190.68s

Stop.

Speaker 22191.14s - 2192.2s
