Speaker 40s - 13.98s

It's the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team every day. Howie Roseman PERSON actually did it.

Speaker 614.08s - 31.9s

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Quinnion Mitchell PERSON, the cornerback from Toledo, with a 22nd overall pick. You are Locked on Eagles, your daily Philadelphia Eagles ORG podcast, part of the Locked

Speaker 031.9s - 38.64s

on Podcast Network, your team every day. What's going on Eagles ORG fans?

Speaker 638.74s - 141.08s

I'm Louis DiBiase, co-hosts of the Lockdown Eagles ORG podcast. Eagles analysts also over at Bleach Report ORG. Same with my co-host, Gino Camilleri PERSON, our scouting director extraordinaire. Today's edition of Lockdown Eagles, we recap the Byrd's first pick in the 2024 NFL draft. They didn't even have to trade up. They got cornerback Quinnian Mitchell from Toledo ORG. What are they going to do with that 50th pick in 53 on day two? We'll get into that.Plus the AJ Brown contract extension, a jam-packed day one of the 2024 NFL draft. Thanks so much for making Lockdown Eagles. Your first listen. Each and every day, today's episode is brought to you by Monopoly Go PRODUCT. I admit it, I have a competitive side, and it's a big fan of Monopoly PRODUCT Go, the mobile hit twist on the classic Monopoly game. So join your friends and download Monopoly Go now free on the App Store or Google Play ORG. We just did a five-hour live show, Gino PERSON.So we're coming off a pretty high high that had a lot of ups and downs in this NFL ORG draft. Unpredictability, offense galore. But the board could not have fallen better for the Philadelphia Eagles who did not need to move up to the 12th overall pick like we did in mock draft Monday. They didn't have to move up to Seattle's pick at 16. They got their pick of whichever corner they wanted at 22nd overall, keeping both of those second roundpicks, keeping any future assets. And they said no to Terry and Arnold PERSON. We want the ultimate Lou DiBiase, Gino Camilleri, Lockdown Eagles, my guy, Quinn Jan Mitchell PERSON. This is for me what it was for you when the Eagles took Devante Smith PERSON. Like this was one of my favorite players in a draft in a very long time. I can't believe they actually took a corner for the first time on day one in Howie PERSON's career. I'm just elated.

Speaker 7143.18s - 148.94s

Trying to process the fact that the Eagles finally took a cornerback for the first time in 20 years.

Speaker 6149.1s - 150.96s

I was five years old the last time they did it.

Speaker 7151.5s - 173.5s

It'll make you step back and say, wow. I'm still kind of processing it. Like, they actually did what we thought they should do and what we were going through in every best case scenario. Like, can they get one of these top two cornerbacks? And like you said, they didn't have to trade the 50th, the 53rd, the 12nd.

Speaker 5173.5s - 177.84s

They traded no picks, no future picks. And both were available.

Speaker 7178.38s - 241.26s

And they got arguably the top defensive player on their board, arguably the best consensus cornerback in the class, somebody who you look at right now, comes into a situation like Holly Roseman PERSON said, where he can sit behind a Hall of Fame type of player in Darius Lay PERSON, in James Bradbury PERSON.You look at that cornerback room now, Lou PERSON, on top of the reint statement of Isaiah Rogers, and adding Quiny Quignon Mitchell and bringing back Avantay PERSON and still having all of these guys there. This secondary went from downright, piss poor last year to a unit that is going to be ferocious next year, man. Like, you have dogs, you got sleigh. You got Quinyon. You bring back CGBJ PERSON. You already have Sidney Brown PERSON,who is a heat-seeking missile on the back end and read blanket chin. This off-season has gone swimmingly. Like, how are we here? How is this the play?

Speaker 6241.26s - 248.1s

How are they paying running backs and drafting corners? Like, if Howie Roseman PERSON can change, anybody can change.

Speaker 0248.32s - 252.06s

Because he has never paid a running back like Saquan Barkley PERSON.

Speaker 7252.14s - 299.48s

He has never taken a corner in the first round. He's only taken one second rounder. And that was almost seven years ago now, Sidney Jones back in 2017. But that's what I love about Howie Roseman PERSON. His philosophy is always ever changing as the league changes. And this isn't though like taking a linebacker on day one or taking a running back or taking a safety. Howie PERSON has prioritized corner. He values it. But he has always taken different routes, trading for Adairius Slay, giving a big contract to Namdi Asima, trading a two for DRC or a three for Ronald Darby PERSON, going with a day two pick back to back like Sidney Jones and Resul Douglas PERSON. So he definitely prioritizes corner more than like a linebacker or safety or running back. But he has never taken this route. And it's always frustrated me because these other alternative routes,

Speaker 6300.02s - 338.8s

it's been good for two to three years, but there's just always this constant turnover at a very important position. Look at the NFL ORG now. Look at the Eagles paying A.J. Brown today. Look at the Bears taking Roma Dunzee when they already had Keenan Allen and DJ Moore or San Francisco with Ayuk and Debo and Kittle PERSON. You need corners in an arrow where there are so many weapons on every offense. And to get a guy that has four three speed, ball skills like Quinnion Mitchell PERSON, it was a necessity. But it was also the BPA, in my opinion. Like the fact that he was available at 22 is not a steal like Jalen Carter last year, but it feels in a similar realm.

Speaker 7340.1s - 354.82s

Let's take a step back real quick to a couple of years ago when Howie Roseman wrote down on a piece of paper three things when it came to drafting Eagles ORG prospects. Can they run? Do they love football? And are they healthy?

Speaker 6355.28s - 356.62s

Yes, yes, and yes for Quinyan PERSON.

Speaker 7358.08s - 388.48s

Sean Syed, who's one of the great follows on Twitter, just tweeted out a video where he asked Quinyon Mitchell PERSON, you're going to Vic Fangio's PERSON scheme. You're going to be asked to do a lot of different things, picking up routes in different fashions. Are you okay with that? And Quinyan PERSON replied, whatever they asked me to do, I'm going to go and do it.That's the type of player you want. And Lou PERSON, he didn't just talk to talk. He walked to walk. He's a true of player you want. And Lou PERSON, he didn't just talk to talk. He walked the walk. He's a true zone corner playing at Toledo ORG.

Speaker 3388.88s - 402.92s

It goes down to the senior bowl, which is the most precarious position for a defensive back where they put you in all of these man-on-man situations because they want to see that being NFL ORG scouts if you can hang.

Speaker 7403.4s - 432.38s

And boy, did he not just hang, Lou PERSON? He showed out. This guy was arguably the best cornerback there, arguably one of the better cornerbacks in all of college football, strip away what the logo on the helmet is, turn on the tape, turn on the game where he gets four interceptions. When's the last time the Eagles ORG had a guy like that? Asante Samuel PERSON, like a true go get it around the ball. It's going to pick it off and a huge moment for you when you need. That's Quignan Mitchell PERSON, dude.

Speaker 6432.9s - 465.76s

Well, that's the thing is I love that you mentioned the Senior Bowl EVENT, because when I was down there, Mitchell PERSON talked about the need to show the league that he can play press man. And there is nothing about his abilities that would have made you question that, a four three speed corner that has some of the best ball skills.I think the best ball skills in this class, as you mentioned, a four-pick game. He had a game where he had two pick sixes as well. Just the click and close, the smooth opening release of his hips, like his vision is great. There was nothing that said he couldn't play press man, but Toledo ORG was dominantly a zone coverage defense.

Speaker 3466s - 472.56s

So he wanted to show at the senior bowl against the best of the best receivers and one-on-ones that he can strap one-on-one presses the line.

Speaker 6472.7s - 518.8s

And he did that and was one of the best players, regardless of position, that entire week. And that's amazing. But I love that you mentioned the playmaking because that's the number one thing I take away from the Mitchell PERSON pick. Look at what happened in 2022 when you made the Super Bowl EVENT. You had a Chauncey Gardner Johnson who was at top the league in interceptions. You had a James Bradbury PERSON who was getting picks all year. Same with Darius Slay PERSON. That was something that went out the door thispast year. You didn't have the playmaking on defense. And bringing back Chauncey, bringing in Quinyon Mitchell, that's going to give you that 2022 style back where you're going to get the ball back to Jalen Hertz in good field advantage situations. Like that's such a huge part of this equation outside of just the press and zone and the versatility in that way. Like the playmaking is so crucial.

Speaker 7520.06s - 527.18s

I'm so glad you mentioned that point that you are going to now set up your loaded offense with more possessions.

Speaker 3527.6s - 529.96s

That's exactly what this team lacked last year.

Speaker 7530.62s - 542.8s

Yeah. We mentioned it on the live show, Lou PERSON. The San Fran game was the first cut. The Arizona ORG game was the death of that team. And what was the death of that team not being able to stop the pass in a pass happy league?

Speaker 6542.9s - 545.16s

In all those games, man, it was the Niners ORG game.

Speaker 7545.44s - 561s

Every game. They were always winning in spite of the secondary. Yeah. And it's not a coincidence you made the Super Bowl the year before when you had all pro secondary play. It's not a coincidence. And talk about how we wanting to write the wrongs, like not bringing back Chauncy PERSON, Garner Johnson, not having an heir apparent there behind James Bradbury PERSON.

Speaker 0561.18s - 562.76s

What do you have right now, Lou PERSON?

Speaker 6563.12s - 564.3s

You bring back Chauncy PERSON.

Speaker 0564.76s - 571.3s

You invested in Sydney Brown last year. You had Reed Blankens, Lou? You bring back Chauncey. You invested in Sydney Brown last year. You had Reed Blankenship PERSON, who is a gem for you back there. You have a loaded

Speaker 7571.3s - 581.58s

cornerback room. I can't wait for the competition in the preseason, Lou PERSON. That's going to be some legitimate tape that those guys are putting out. Like the Eli Ricks's and the Josh Jokes PERSON,

Speaker 6581.78s - 585.52s

those guys are going to have to step up now, man. There's a new dog in that room. I don't even know if they can, man.

Speaker 7585.62s - 587.6s

I think Mitchell PERSON's going to be one of your boundaries.

Speaker 6587.6s - 591.94s

But that's the best case scenario though. But like you want those guys to compete because you want the communities to push

Speaker 2591.94s - 596.28s

to the next level, right? You want Zach PERSON to come back from injury and be that next step.

Speaker 6596.28s - 598.32s

I agree. It's going to be Mitchell and Slay PERSON though.

Speaker 7598.46s - 604.64s

And it's very Cam Juergens, Jason Kelsey PERSON asked where he's going to bring more good players into that room.

Speaker 6604.84s - 670.84s

No way. I love the idea of Quinnian Mitchell learning by playing next to the players. and Kelsey PERSON ask where he's going to bring more good players into that room. I love the idea of Quignan Mitchell learning by playing next to the player he emulates his game after the most, very similar to Cam Juergens and Jason Kelsey PERSON last year. Howie Roseman said in his press conference a few weeks ago that that's something that's important to him to have these guys learn from legends, especially if they can on the field. And we're like, oh no, that means tackle with Wayne Johnson PERSON.Could be a Tyler Guyton type from Oklahoma ORG. It applies to corner here as well. And having Quignon, as you mentioned, Darius Slay, Isaiah Rogers PERSON, Keely, Ringo, Eli, Ricks, Avante Maddox PERSON, you can draft another corner on day two or day three. Suddenly this position looks a whole lot better. And I just can't believe how he actually did it. But this didn't just make sense from a need perspective. Gino PERSON, again, I think this was also the BPA. The board went crazy offense. There was not a defensive player inside the top 10. When was the first pick?It was Leitu Latu PERSON, right? Leetu Lattu at 15. I mean, and there was only two more guys after that, Byron Murphy and then Dallas Turner. And then I'm sorry, Jared Verst PERSON as well. Like this was the perfect year to need defense and that's what the Eagles ORG needed.

Speaker 7672.14s - 706.38s

Take a step back to the Jeffrey Simmons PERSON class when that defensive line was so good. And the Cleland Farrell and like the Andre Gillard PERSON's of the world where you're saying, best case scenario, a lot of offense goes and you can land at Jeffrey Simmons PERSON. That didn't happen. It was worst case scenario. Kind of probably maybe a little bit of panic at that Andre Dillard PERSON selection at the time. Now, Lou, the same exact thing happened, but your need lined up with BPA, which also lined up with BPA. It was just a perfect story. Also lined up with the NFL ORG.

Speaker 2707.1s - 707.26s

Right.

Speaker 7707.26s - 712.4s

In those other teams reacting to not having offensive tackles, reacting to not

Speaker 0712.4s - 716.56s

having, Michael Pennix going at 8 was the most surreal thing that I've ever heard.

Speaker 6716.56s - 719.24s

I couldn't believe it. I really couldn't believe it.

Speaker 7719.24s - 720.78s

Was that not the best case scenario?

Speaker 6721.04s - 730.86s

Oh, it was. Bo Nicks going at 12. That was not going to happen and it did bow nicks PERSON going at 12 blew my mind the fact that pennix and nicks were both top 12

Speaker 7730.86s - 737.76s

picks was just surreal and perfectly look i would have loved terry and arnold i think he's

Speaker 6737.76s - 779.3s

probably a better tackle than mitchell a little more physical but mitchell is the faster corner with better ball skills i just think he fits more what I'm looking for in a corner at this level. And the other cool thing, Gino, is Howie Roseman PERSON. I think he's become a better drafter because he simplified things and he started taking the best players from the best schools like Bama and Georgia ORG. But you can't always scout the helmet, as you always say.And I like that he went back to kind of his roots of going with a smaller school player in Mitchell PERSON because you can't scout the helmet this is a player that translates very well to the next level and I was a little bit nervous that how he suddenly was going to be stubborn and say I'm only taking SEC players or big 10 players but no he again just

Speaker 7779.3s - 791.18s

the most open-minded general manager in football Zegwin everybody else Lou. The league went offense, nearly 17 of the picks before him were offense essentially.

Speaker 6791.58s - 792.92s

And what happened?

Speaker 7793.16s - 806.02s

You got the best cornerback because you were able to wait there. You were able to wait and sit while everybody else got their offensive linemen. Probably some of the chatter about offensive linemen was how he's sending out smoke screens.

Speaker 6806.5s - 807.34s

Guess what happened?

Speaker 7808.24s - 810.28s

He got his guy. Quignan Mitchell PERSON.

Speaker 6811.12s - 812.08s

He's a real to stay.

Speaker 7812.4s - 819.6s

He's an eagle, I can't. This is the first time ever on the podcast or just maybe ever that I've gotten my true my guy.

Speaker 0819.6s - 844.98s

Like there's been some my guys that taken like Kwez Watkins, Moro, Zomo PERSON, like later picks, but never like the number one player for me. So this was a really special night. We had over 500 people watching our live show. If any of you were watching or listening right now, shout it to you guys. Quinion Mitchell is a Philadelphia Eagle ORG. The board fell perfectly.

Speaker 0981.74s - 994.66s

They didn't have to trade any draft picks. They got the best corner, which was the biggest need, I think, both short term and long term, a position of value that you need in the NFL ORG right now, a fast ball hawk that can play zone and man.

Speaker 6995.26s - 1035.24s

Just a perfect night, Gino PERSON. And I was a little nervous for a bit because of the run on receivers and quarterbacks. There were still some offensive tackles I thought the Eagles ORG could like, but it was almost like they were going to dangle like the Howie PERSON's biggest vices in front of them, you know, edge rushers and defensive tackles like Byron Murphy was falling down the board, Dallas Turner, Jared Verse PERSON.I was very nervous that the opportunity was going to present itself for him to go with those positions, but the run went right in front of him. And I don't think it forced him to go corner. I think Mitchell PERSON probably would have been the pick no matter what, but it just could not have been a more perfect way for this draft to go for what the Eagles wanted at 22.

Speaker 71037.28s - 1043.1s

So the real moment we started to get a little bit nervous is when we got towards like Indianapolis GPE territory,

Speaker 61043.1s - 1046.72s

where we were believing that these teams could start to make a run on cornerback.

Speaker 01046.72s - 1053.32s

And then all of a sudden, after 14 picks us on offense, Indy shocks us and goes lay to

Speaker 71053.32s - 1059.98s

Latu PERSON. I was talking that I can't believe Seattle would go Byron Murphy when they get Leonard Williams

Speaker 01059.98s - 1063.02s

and then they bring in Dream on Jones and they pick Byron Murphy.

Speaker 31063.88s - 1065.46s

Then Minnesota ORG trades up and they send a whole package and we're saying there's no way, and they pick Byron Murphy. Then Minnesota trades up

Speaker 01065.46s - 1066.5s

and they send a whole package

Speaker 31066.5s - 1067.9s

and we're saying there's no way

Speaker 01067.9s - 1070.1s

they're sending this much for anything other

Speaker 71070.1s - 1073.08s

than a defensive end. Guess who it is? Dallas Turner.

Speaker 61074.34s - 1077.46s

Cincinnati GPE, we were shaking on our boots a little bit.

Speaker 71077.64s - 1082.18s

They shock us with Amerius Mims PERSON. Then L.A., Jared Verse PERSON.

Speaker 61082.48s - 1083.76s

It just kept falling our way.

Speaker 71083.76s - 1090.86s

Troy Fittano to Pittsburgh ORG. The last moment where we both had that breath of fresh air was Fetano PERSON, I think, for me.

Speaker 61091.58s - 1092.74s

Chop Robinson PERSON for me.

Speaker 71092.86s - 1093.38s

Well, true.

Speaker 61093.38s - 1100.34s

When he went to Miami GPE, it was maybe the best edge left on the board versus the best corner. What would how he do?

Speaker 71100.82s - 1102.72s

It's a fastball, too, that he likes.

Speaker 61103.32s - 1104s

Easy decision.

Speaker 71104.22s - 1110.88s

I think the Fetano PERSON pick for me was when I took a breath of fresh air because I just didn't think anybody else from a value perspective made more sense than a corner,

Speaker 61111.38s - 1116.84s

position of need. Fetano just felt like a Philadelphia Eagle ORG. We were saying that all offseason.

Speaker 01116.84s - 1143.42s

The guard tackle versatility, the athleticism. Sounded like Jeff Soutland really liked him during the Combine EVENT in the Pro Day process. Once he went to Pittsburgh, I'm like, it's got to be Mitchell or Arnold PERSON at this point. I was very curious who it was going to be, though, between Mitchell and Arnold PERSON. Because we heard Nick's reports, and of course there's the Bama, Georgia ORG angle too. I'm so glad.I would have been really happy, Gino, with Arnold, but Mitchell PERSON was the preference.

Speaker 61143.8s - 1145.4s

I mean, this is a guy that I just think

Speaker 71145.4s - 1151.92s

is such a complete prospect. I think you hit it right on the head. Like, this is your version of

Speaker 61151.92s - 1154.9s

Devante Smith and the best way of where. Like, you got Jaylon Wattle that year, you would have

Speaker 71154.9s - 1173.18s

been happy, but not elated like when they got Devontet PERSON. But for good reason to where like, how he even said it. He even said it just happened to align with need and the best player available. I don't think he's BSing us with that. Like I legitimately think they drafted for need.

Speaker 61173.18s - 1181.8s

Daniel Jeremiah's PERSON best player available board, when the Eagles ORG were on the clock, it was Mitchell 1 and Arnold 1 Mitchell 2. And it aligned with exactly what they needed.

Speaker 71181.92s - 1188.78s

They didn't force it by trading potentially 50 or 53 and then some like we had done in multiple exercises.

Speaker 61189.12s - 1194.16s

And they didn't even have to trade, let's say, a fourth row and pick to go up a spot like they did for Jalen Carter last year.

Speaker 31194.16s - 1202.42s

Folks, they didn't have to move it all in the best way since the last time they picked at their actual pick.

Speaker 41202.68s - 1204.78s

It was Jalen Rager PERSON back then.

Speaker 71205.96s - 1212.66s

We were kind of saying, what the hell is going on? And then all of a sudden, they make a great selection. And it's Quinyon Mitchell PERSON, man. It's a home run pick.

Speaker 61212.86s - 1245.44s

So, you mentioned earlier the Howie football points, the three things he's looking for after 2019. Well, some of these Quinnian Mitchell PERSON stats back up those traits. So can he run? Well, he once clocked in a 23.58 miles per hour practice run. He also clocked a 433 40 yard dash. Can he stay healthy? He started 40 straight gamesat Toledo ORG. Does he love football? I think so. So much so that he's committed to not committing any penalties. He didn't commit a single penalty in 2023. Do you know hard? Get out of here for a cornerback.

Speaker 01245.54s - 1250.34s

And he committed. I might be the craziest stat I've ever heard. One flag in 2022. In two years,

Speaker 71250.34s - 1256.08s

the man got penalized one time at the probably hardest position to not get flags thrown at you.

Speaker 01256.2s - 1269.9s

By the way, he can also squat 555 pounds. So he's knocked this tiny corner that can't be physical. Is he Terry and Arnold like a 90 grad-graded run-stopping corner? No, but he's not Nate Wiggins PERSON either.

Speaker 71270.62s - 1278.86s

So I figured out how they draft guys now are like a corner. They just bring them to the weight room. You start squatting with Jalen Hurst PERSON. I think that's the move.

Speaker 61278.86s - 1285.26s

Whoever hangs the longest, like you're going to kick it with us. And it happened to be Quinnian Mitchell PERSON. And this is a freak athlete, man, with crazy upside.

Speaker 71285.46s - 1290.34s

We know, and clearly how crazy hard it is to not come up with a huge holding call

Speaker 31290.34s - 1295.46s

and the biggest stage of the entire sport being the Super Bowl with James Bradbury PERSON.

Speaker 71295.92s - 1319.94s

And to not commit half of a penalty average over a course of two years, Lou PERSON, that's crazy. That might be the best statistic, but he's around the football, four interceptions in the single game, started 40 consecutive games at a position where when we're talking about Nate Wiggins PERSON, these guys that are like these true fastball like Ferraris, those soft tissue injuries,

Speaker 61320.48s - 1321.44s

they're in the shop a lot.

Speaker 71321.68s - 1324.18s

Yeah, I mean, Wiggins PERSON got banged up at the combine, actually.

Speaker 61324.3s - 1326.22s

And I love Nate Wiggins. He was on the road, all seasons. And I love the road, so I'm not going to bash him now.

Speaker 71326.22s - 1328.42s

He's got the all season tires out. Yeah.

Speaker 61328.46s - 1330.16s

He's got the fresh wax on the hood.

Speaker 71330.3s - 1336.3s

He's ready to go, man. Like, this kid is going to come out there. Probably be the number two right away.

Speaker 61336.72s - 1341.9s

I think so. He said verbatim he wanted to learn and meet. And then let Ringo PERSON and Rogers

Speaker 71341.9s - 1349.32s

battle it out for the long-term other boundaries spot. Like, is Ke like is king ringo like battling for like the third cornerback for the next four

Speaker 61349.32s - 1353.86s

years i'd cut bradbury at this point too gino i don't want a slow old backup that doesn't play

Speaker 71353.86s - 1358.94s

special teams he retired a couple years ago we don't need him anymore quid ditchell was pf's number

Speaker 61358.94s - 1384.18s

one graded corner over the last two years i just i'm so over the moon with this pick and gino as you mentioned, they did not have to give up 50 or 53. I will say myself, I'd love linebacker, and it'd be the perfect finishto the Zig over Zag off season for Howie PERSON, right? But I do think they're going to want to take an offensive lineman. Like, they're not leaving tomorrow's draft board without getting a tackle.

Speaker 71386.68s - 1418.98s

I think, one, not moving one of those picks, you're already playing with house money. Because we had gone into this saying, yeah, if you move 50 or 53, it's probably going to be any combination of corner offensive line in some fashion. Well, you get the cornerback. Now you can get offensive line. We can be talking about adding a Ben Sinit PERSON at tight end if he potentially falls. And I know the wide receiver run started to go right towards the end of this first round here. I mean, San Fran picking Ricky Purcells PERSON like that's a pretty.

Speaker 61418.98s - 1423.6s

The bills letting Xavier Worthy go to Kansas City by trading with them is insane.

Speaker 71423.6s - 1425.7s

And then Xavier Legatet go to Carolina ORG.

Speaker 61425.7s - 1430.62s

And then the bills trade down again and give the Panthers leg it for a fifth instead

Speaker 71430.62s - 1436.92s

of a six. So they give up the fucking option. He's just sticking and taking his guy and not getting cute. Like that might be the biggest win, man.

Speaker 61436.94s - 1439.72s

He's done good with that the last two years because he did that with Nolan Smith last year.

Speaker 31439.82s - 1443.3s

Normally that's not, Howie PERSON sometimes gets very antsy and has to trade.

Speaker 71443.5s - 1445.32s

It almost feels like he has to. It's in his nature. Two years in a row, he's been how he sometimes gets very antsy and has to trade. It almost feels like he has to. It's in his nature.

Speaker 31445.74s - 1448.56s

Two years in a row, he's been smart and has stayed put.

Speaker 01449.2s - 1454.72s

I think he's come a long way as somebody who never drafted a corner and has tried

Speaker 71454.72s - 1462.02s

to outsmart himself and has tried to go the pure production, pure trades, pure SEC ORG.

Speaker 61463.04s - 1464.7s

Well, this guy, we talked about the outlier.

Speaker 71465.5s - 1466.76s

Yeah, he wears a Mac helmet.

Speaker 61467.42s - 1468.92s

But he also runs a 4-33.

Speaker 71469.64s - 1470.64s

And he had four-ers.

Speaker 61470.64s - 1471.6s

He played in Illinois ORG, man.

Speaker 71472.16s - 1473.26s

Sauce played at Sinci ORG.

Speaker 61473.38s - 1478.82s

I don't care. Scout the plate, you turn it on the tape. Like, he was a top 15. Daniel Jeremiah PERSON, man, like,

Speaker 71479.56s - 1503.58s

he might be one of the most well-respected guys evaluating talent. If he has him as a top 15 pick, DJ PERSON was a former Eagle Scout. I think you and I will say it. A lot of people said it. A lot of people were saying they were going to trade up to get Quinyon Mitchell PERSON,a testament to who the player is. And they sat there at 22. 22 didn't move a single thing. Nobody even made how he beg to go get him. Like, that even played a bluff on him.

Speaker 61503.96s - 1539.06s

And he's such a mature. He's such a mature kid, too. I had the chance to talk to him at the senior bowl and just like, going to be a great locker room player. Kind of a similar energy and vibe almost to Devante Smith and Jalen Hertz. Kind of like a little more reserved, but I think he's going to be a good lead by example kind of player. I think he fits this locker room for sure. So over the moon with that, Gino, I'll say before we get into this AJ Brown PERSON extension, my number one thing on the wish list tomorrow, I'll say Eddrian Cooper PERSON,but I think that's my heart, my head will tell me probably offensive line. I can see them trying to trade down two with one of those picks, trying to get back in the third round.

Speaker 71540.86s - 1545.74s

I don't see them taking a pick at 53 and then waiting until 120.

Speaker 61546.16s - 1547.4s

No, I don't think so either.

Speaker 71547.52s - 1556.74s

They're going to want another pick later on tomorrow night. I could see a little bit of a trade up from maybe like 53 to like the mid 40s if one of those offense lines.

Speaker 61556.74s - 1559.52s

Maybe like you move up from 50 and then you trade down from 53.

Speaker 71559.78s - 1561.78s

I think howie tomorrow is when he gets traded.

Speaker 61562.62s - 1564.34s

Probably offensive line.

Speaker 71565.18s - 1573.42s

Yeah. Maybe a pass catcher of sorts. If one of the tight ends falls, I would love to see if Ben Sinner PERSON is there what you would do.

Speaker 61574.92s - 1577.6s

Wide receiver is a wild card in that equation.

Speaker 71578.14s - 1578.78s

Who are the best available?

Speaker 61578.88s - 1580.28s

Still Ladd McConkey PERSON's there.

Speaker 71580.46s - 1585.18s

Yep. Ladd is there. 80 Mitchells PERSON on the board. 80 Mitchel PERSONl is still available. Not a lot of guys I love for the Eagles. Malachi Corley, somebody I like. 80 Mitchells on the board. 80 Mitchel is still available.

Speaker 61585.56s - 1587.88s

Not a lot of guys I love for the Eagles ORG. Malachi Corley, somebody I like.

Speaker 71587.88s - 1593.44s

If we're talking like maybe you get like safety at some point tomorrow.

Speaker 61593.74s - 1603.4s

Like I don't think it would be if you traded down a little bit. It's wide open at this point. Like outside a cornerback. I don't care, man. I got my corner. If they want to take two off the environment tomorrow, whatever, it's fine.

Speaker 71603.64s - 1607.12s

Yeah, like if the draft stopped right now, like I would be okay. I'm cool.

Speaker 61607.54s - 1686.88s

Yeah, but I can't believe they got a lot more players on this team. Oh, yeah. They've got plenty of picks still to go. But the Eagles ORG were also busy at work taking care of their own on the roster. AJ Brown got an extension about 10 minutes before the draft started. So we're going to get into that coming up next right here on Lockdown Eagles ORG.Today's episode of the Lockdown Eagles podcast were brought to you by LinkedIn Jobs ORG. This episode of your favorite Lockdown podcast is brought to you by your friends at Front Door ORG. Now that the NFL season is over, I spend a lot of my Sundays doing chores, things around the house. Speaker 61745.36s - 1819.42s

for just $25 a year. All right. So obviously the story of the night is the Eagles ORG steal Quinyan Mitchell. They don't even need to trade up. They get their CB1 of the future and maybe even of the present. I wouldn't be surprised you know if he's automatically better than Dariuslay PERSON and everybody else on this secondary. But either way, long term, that's your guy. But before the draft started, we were alive starting at 7 o'clock. We were alive for five hours today. At 7.50, 10 minutes before the Bears went on the clock, the Eagles gave AJ Brown PERSON a three-year extension worth $96 million. That includes $84 million guaranteed. The $32 million a year average is the highest for any wide receiver. I love this. I've been saying it over and over again. The biggest key to sustaining success in Philadelphia long term is keeping the trio of J.1 Hertz, A.J. Brown and Devante Smith PERSON together. Well,Hertz got his deal last year. Devante got his deal two weeks ago. Now A.J. PERSON gets his contract to lower those massive cap hits coming up. What a huge night in that way as well, making sure Brown PERSON isn't going anywhere. Regardless of you radio stations and media trying to drum up drama. The Eagles ORG never wavered, always supported this guy. He's not going anywhere. So teams quit calling about him.

Speaker 71820.64s - 1828.72s

Yeah, it's a shame that a certain three-lettered radio station in Philadelphia isn't going to have, is A.J. Brown PERSON going to be traded.

Speaker 61828.72s - 1832.48s

Or a podcast platform that has a first name with Biggins with Jay.

Speaker 71832.48s - 1841.64s

It rhymes with Shemakab Media ORG. Yeah, that one. But yeah, no, we're the positivity pod and we're the one that supported this guy from the get-go. Go look at our reaction a couple.

Speaker 61841.82s - 1849.58s

Or if we criticize, we actually, it's justified. There was no reason to ever, this diva narrative around a j brown PERSON never made it like to treat him like he was

Speaker 71849.58s - 1860.34s

torel owens PERSON never made any sense he's one of the guys that truly is embracing the culture truly is embracing the leadership element truly has been one of the right-hand guys every time he talks

Speaker 61860.34s - 1868.58s

he says the right things i don't get it man, and like the whole thing with when it was the impromptu interception

Speaker 71868.58s - 1870.06s

toward what game was that?

Speaker 61870.34s - 1871.96s

Seattle ORG. The Seattle ORG game.

Speaker 71872.08s - 1880.34s

And Nick Sariani PERSON took some flack. And AJ is like, yeah, Nick PERSON took that flag. Like that was on us. Like that's accountability, man. You talk about that's such a diva, man.

Speaker 61880.34s - 1886.3s

That's such a diva, man. He's in his driveway doing sit-ups without his shirt. I know that's, it's nonsense.

Speaker 71886.48s - 1899.36s

Not only did they lock up Devonthe Smith, you have his cohort in A.J. Brown PERSON. You did it ahead of guys like Jamar Chase PERSON. Michael Pittman PERSON was the only guy in between them that got a bag.

Speaker 61899.36s - 1902s

Amon Ra PERSON, too. Amon Ra, St. Brown PERSON.

Speaker 71902.12s - 1913.28s

Yes, I forgot those jerseys look alike in the picture and I messed it up. But at the same time, next year at this point, what's the wide receiver market going to be?$40 million a year.

Speaker 61913.28s - 1915.5s

I was going to say this deal is, it looks expensive now.

Speaker 71915.5s - 1916.74s

Like you push Dallas ORG's

Speaker 61916.74s - 1923.1s

foot to the fire on the CD Lamb deal after it. I can't imagine C.D. sitting there saying, hey, Philly ORG can pay

Speaker 71923.1s - 1925.04s

both these guys and they pay their quarterback. You have to, you know, and that's the thing. Teams, everybody's investing now CD's sitting there saying, hey, Philly ORG can pay both these guys and they pay their

Speaker 61925.04s - 1930.22s

quarterback. You have to, you know, and that's the thing. Teams, everybody's investing now in

Speaker 71930.22s - 1936.52s

multiple star pass catchers. Like, it's not a luxury anymore. It's almost a necessity in the

Speaker 61936.52s - 1968.66s

NFL. But so many teams only do that for a short span, right? Like the Cowboys ORG with CD Lamb and Amari Cooper that was so short-lived. Brandon Ayuk is on the trade block now, despite having Devo Samuel there. And, you know, the Cincinnati Bengals are probably not going to keep Jamar Chase and T. Higgins PERSON together. I love that the Eagles ORG recognize that we shouldn't let this duo ever go anywhere. Even if we have to pay them a combined total of $57 million a year annually, guess what? It's worth it.We don't want to go back to 2020 when it's Travis Fulgum and Jalen Rager PERSON.

Speaker 71969.08s - 1983.5s

No, Howie PERSON's not going to allow that to happen again. And the Eagles ORG aren't the only team investing this heavily in offense. I mean, look at, you mentioned it with Chicago ORG. I mean, they bring in Keenan Allen and they have DJ Moore PERSON. And what do they do?

Speaker 61983.58s - 1987.44s

They drafted a top three wide receiver in the class.

Speaker 71987.74s - 1990.92s

And look at teams like Seattle ORG that you're competing against.

Speaker 31991.02s - 1992.5s

They did that with JSN last year.

Speaker 71992.76s - 1996.34s

It's the cold war on offense. It is a arm.

Speaker 61996.34s - 1996.54s

Literally.

Speaker 71997.16s - 2000.94s

And the Eagles ORG have the biggest nuclear warhead in the arsenal right now.

Speaker 62000.94s - 2007.36s

It's nice to not be jealous of teams like Chicago because I'm like, they that's nice, but Philly ORG's got a better one. And

Speaker 72007.36s - 2010.08s

it kind of just kills like the narrative

Speaker 62010.08s - 2012.14s

that you can't keep a team

Speaker 72012.14s - 2015.88s

together post quarterback. Like Holly Roseman PERSON is disproving that

Speaker 62015.88s - 2030.5s

in the best. Well, when you invest in prime players, the kicking the can down the road strategy helps even more, Gino PERSON, like this isn't the Alshan contract. AJ Brown's PERSON cap hits were about to be huge. This year it was stomach. You could stomach it.After that, it was going to be like over $20 million, and then over $40 million.

Speaker 32031.58s - 2034.46s

He's only 25 turning 26 soon.

Speaker 62034.82s - 2038.18s

You can still backload that contract. He's one of the best receivers in football.

Speaker 72038.52s - 2047.04s

So it made so much sense to extend that deal. And it makes so much chance that Howie Rosemann would do that 10 minutes before the

Speaker 52047.04s - 2047.64s

freaking draft.

Speaker 62048.14s - 2053.58s

Like it's such a how he's like, hey, slip this out to the media, Adam Schaefter and Ian Rappaport.

Speaker 72053.7s - 2065.32s

But no, heads off to Howie PERSON to staying ahead of the curve and heads off to him identifying that this offense is truly what is making this thing click. But at the same time, Lou PERSON, as much as he invested in offense,

Speaker 02065.88s - 2069.54s

he's turned right around with the defense and made some high quality investments,

Speaker 72069.64s - 2123.32s

man, like Bryce Huff PERSON, you go out there and do that. Yeah, you trade away Hassan Reddick PERSON, but he brought in somebody else that could do the job, too. And what else do you do on the back end? You bring in CGJ. Devin White hopefully can bring you a little bit something better than what you had last year. And what do you do doing the first round? You draft Quignan Mitchell PERSON. And there's plenty of other guys you can add in the next 48 hours that can even improve this room to be even better. So they're on the ball, man. Like they're ahead of the curve. This is a good spot to be. It doesn't feel like 2020 with Jalen Rager PERSON where you're like you're trying to find your footing. This team knows where they are. they know they're going to compete and they know that there's multiple ways to skin a cat like we can invest nine contracts in our offense and then find a way on defense to go figure it out like that's how he Roseman PERSON's thing he's never just going to sit there and

Speaker 62123.32s - 2156.72s

just hope it gets better he's going to find a way. It's the perfect balance of the way he has this roster set. I shouldn't say a balance, but it makes sense when you look at how much he's invested in top tier contracts on offense. Like he has three of the top 10 highest paid offensive linemen. He has two of the top five highest paid receivers now,one of the highest paid tight ends and quarterbacks and running backs, so much money invested in an offense that on defense, you got to invest those top picks right now, because that's how you're going to get production out of that unit. Because you really just can't afford to spend a ton of money on that side

Speaker 02156.72s - 2162.7s

with the offense being the way it's structured right now. So you need guys like Quinyan Mitchell PERSON on this defense. Bingo.

Speaker 62162.98s - 2164.28s

And they got them, man.

Speaker 72164.28s - 2167.76s

And you didn't shell out more than you had to.

Speaker 62167.88s - 2171.06s

And even with the contracts, like, yeah, you're showing out a lot now.

Speaker 72171.18s - 2173.54s

But we know how quickly this thing changes.

Speaker 62173.74s - 2177s

Like how quickly was Landon Dickerson's PERSON extension a bargain?

Speaker 72177.2s - 2191.62s

And Jalen Hertz, you're looking at that contract extension and saying, how quickly is that going to be a $10 million bargain? And once again, they're ahead of the curve, man. They're ahead of the curve. Tonight kind of solidified that within the last three hours. And with everything.

Speaker 62191.62s - 2191.82s

Yeah.

Speaker 72192s - 2200.84s

Are you being a little bit reactive at cornerback? To be honest, I would say no, because some teams could sit there and say, yeah, we got Slay and we got Bradbury PERSON and we invest.

Speaker 62200.94s - 2207.96s

Rogers PERSON is reinstated. Yeah. We could just sit there. But no, they want to push the pace. They're never going to sit on their laurels.

Speaker 72208.46s - 2214.96s

If there's an ability to upgrade anywhere, tonight is so evident, dude, so evident.

Speaker 62215.78s - 2256.26s
