But now let's get into the podcast and let's talk about that game two victory for the D-backs because they took down the Reds four to three. They're now 17 and 20 on the season and the D-backs are on a three-game winning streak right now. And the question is, are the D-backs ORG starting to turn the corner a little bit? Because we know about the D-BACs issues all year from the lineup to the bullpen. The D-backs have not been the best version of themselves this year, especially coming off the magical season that we had last year,especially the off-season that we had. Expectations were high for the debacks entering this season, and so far, they have not been living up to those expectations that we set for the Diamondbacks ORG. But after watching the last three games, is it fair to say that the debats are starting to turn the corner?I would still say that's a little bit premature. I think we're still too early to say that the debacks ORG have turned the corner. This was still say that's a little bit premature. I think I need to see a larger sample size from the Diamondbacks before I'm ready to say, yeah, this team is on the up and up. Yeah, this team is starting to turn the corner, look more like the playoff team that we expect them to be.It's just too early for that. This team is still too injured. The lineup is still too inconsistent. Like we saw in this game, the bullpen still isn't trustworthy. So on May 8th, I don't think it's time yet to say that the debacks ORG have turned the corner. I still think there's a lot of problems that the debacks ORG are facing right now with their team.And we'll talk about some of those problems in segment number two. But one of the problems that we saw in this game was the bullpen again putting the game on the ropes. Kevin Ginkle comes in the ninth inning, two run lead. Paul Seawald PERSON, the closer, had just returned to the debacks. But after debuting in yesterday's game, there's no way that the debacks ORG used him in back-to-back games after just getting activated off their injured list. So they go with a new approach, a new approach, and they go with Kevin Ginkle in the ninth, who has been their closer all season with Palsy Wald out, and Kevin Ginkle PERSON, who was electriclast year for the debacks ORG, and was pretty good this year entering this game. I think he had a 257 ERA entering this game. He was not the best version of himself. He gives up two hits. He gives up a walk.He loads the bases. And thankfully, Joe Mantiply, who at times has been Joe Multiply for the debacks ORG this season because there's been so many instances the last couple years where you just did not trust Joe Multiply PERSON at all, right? You would come in this game and then the lead for the opposing team would balloon or in a situation like this where the debacks ORG were trying to preserve their lead.You would not have been surprised at all if Joe Mantiply PERSON came in and gave up some earned runs. But in this one, he was able to do his job. He was able to get some big outs, including a big strikeout in the ninth inning. And Joe Mantipli, not Multiply, came in, clutch in the ninth inning and was able to get the save for the Arizona Diamondbacks ORG. The bullpen still super shaky, even when we go with our best guys like a Kevin Ginkle PERSON.But hopefully in the future, it evens out a little bit more. And we see Kevin Ginkle PERSON in the eighth as opposed to the ninth inning because he just way better as a setup man than he is a closer. I love Kevin Ginkle,

but I don't have that trust in a Kevin Ginkle when he's closing games for the D-backs ORG, as I do, when he's being the setup man for the Arizona Diamondback. So Ginkle PERSON, not his best outing, but I think he will be better moving forward once we get the bullpen in their normal order with the setup guy, Ginkle PERSON, and then the closer, Paul Seawald PERSON. But before Kevin Ginkle, Ryan Thompson came in the seventh inning, or excuse me, in the eighthinning. He was fantastic. Ryan Thompson, Revelation once again the season after being picked up at the end of last year and being a Revelation 2023, had just continued his elite dominance. One, two, three, your array on the year. He had a one inning pitch in this game with one strikeout.Absolutely phenomenal job by Ryan Thompson PERSON. And the reason you were able to just go three relievers

and potentially just two because in theory, you should have went Thompson, 8th, and then Ginkle closes it out in the 9th. The reason you didn't have to use that many relievers in this ballgame is because of how good Jordan Montgomery was. Monty getting paid big bucks this season by the debacks to be a front line to mid-rotation starter. He might be the number three, number fourstarter for the debacks depending on how they match him up with Erod PERSON. But regardless, with the money that the debacks are giving him, he's expected to pitch at least like a number two starter in a rotation. And in three of the four starts this season, he has. His lone star against the Dodgers was really bad. But this start against the Cincinnati Reds renewed faith in Jordan Montgomery PERSON, seven innings, two earn runs, exactly what you expect for Monty. He gives up seven hits. He's not afraid to pitch the contact, but induce double plays, was able to get those lazyflyouts. Jordan Montgomery PERSON, really clean game by him and really impressive to go deep in this ballgame. We love to see extended innings by our starting pitchers, so we don't have to see as much of the bullpen. And then offensively, when you look at this game, the offense did just enough. They were able to get their four runs, but we need still more from this offense. Two for 12 where runners in scoring position just isn't good enough.Now, I do love the fact that we got a big Eugenio Suarez PERSON home run. Of course, he had 49 home runs back in 2019 for the Cincinnati Red ORG. So maybe he just loves playing in that ballpark. He had himself a really good day. Got to see a couple hits from Gabbyo Moreno PERSON, who needs to get it going. I do love the fact, too, that Toilevello PERSON listened to the Lockdown Diamondbacks podcast and said, you know what? Jog Peterson should be the number three hitter and Lord Jorell should be the number five hitter. And look at that, Lord Joreal PERSON gets a hit. He getsa run scored. Now, he did ground into a double play at one point in the game, but, you know, that happens to the best of them. So did like the fact that Toy Lavello listened to the podcast and switch those two guys. And then Pavin Smith, we know Tori Lavello PERSON is obsessed with him. He started in right field today. Don't know how that makes any sense when you have a Jake McCarthy and a Randall Gritchick PERSON on your bench. But Pave and Smith PERSON offensively, I mean, the numbers, the slash line doesn't look good,but he came through today. He had a nice little hit. He had a run scored. He had an RBI. And as a right fielder, he threw somebody out trying to go to second base. I would have never expected Pave and Smith PERSON to throw anybody out with his arm strength and thelack of accuracy. But he threw this thing on a rope and was able to get someone caught in no man's land as, you know, there was like a ball hit to him and the run on first didn't know whether to go or not. Paving Smith PERSON made him pay by gunning him out at second base, and that's not something I would have ever expected from Paving Smith PERSON before. So the D-backs, big game two victory. They take down the Reds4-3. Offense did just enough, but still shaky. Pitching, very, very strong from Jordan Montgomery PERSON, Ryan Thompson and Joe Manciply. Kevin Ginkle PERSON, a little bit shaky, didn't like how close he made the game, but the D-backs were able to fight through it, and now they look to go for the sweep Thursday morning against the Cincinnati Reds. Let's get back into the lockdown Dianbacks podcast. Let's discuss some of the biggest surprises from this debaq season DATE. And I will say these are negative surprises. On tomorrow's podcast, I want to talk about the biggest positive surprises from the debacks ORG this season. I want to get a little negative right now because the debacks still are not that good of a team. There's still three games below 500. So if they win tomorrow and they're on a four game winning streak and they come off a sweep, I think then it would be fair to do a positive segment. But right now, I think we should still live in the misery and despair of the Dback ORG season. So let's talk about the biggest surprises. And these are some of the surprises that have led to the Dback's poor record so far. And I did a power ranking as well. So this is what I believe are the biggest reasons as to why the debacks ORG have been struggling with theirrecord right now. Their first one is, of course, the Corby and Carroll PERSON slow start. There's so many different theories and reasons as to why people think Corby and Carroll's slow start. There's so many different theories and reasons as to why people think Corbyn Carroll PERSON has been struggling. Whatever the reason is, the bottom line, Corbyn Carroll just has not been good this season. And quite frankly, for the most part, he's been one of the worst offensive players in Major League Baseball.And this DeBack's team, their ceiling will never be realized if Corman Carroll PERSON never becomes the player that we saw last season. We don't even need the best player in baseball, Corman Carroll. We don't need MVP winner Corman Carroll. We just need last year, Corbyn Carroll PERSON, which is still top five MVP candid. Even if we get first, first season, Corby Carroll, when he had his 30 game little stint with the debacks ORG, even if we get that guy, that guy is a positive contributor to the lineup.But the guy that we're getting right now, this version of Corby Carroll PERSON, does absolutely nothing for the team outside of stealing a few bases, which he still does at a pretty high clip. But even if you look at Stadass ORG and the sprint speed, Corbyn Corby Carroll, not even a top 20 guy right now in terms of sprint speed. Guys like Fernando Tatis are ahead of a Corbyn Carroll PERSON when you look at sprint speed. You would be surprised by some of the names that are ahead of Corby Carroll PERSON.You're like, that guy is considered faster right now than Carol PERSON. The quality contact has not been there for him this season. Absolutely no power. Yes, he can still steal bases, but not even the speed is the same as it was last year. Don't know what the issues have been for him, but Corby and Carroll PERSON needs to figure it out because this team is going nowhere offensively if he never turns it around.The second biggest reason as to why I think the debacks are three games below 500 is because Lord's Guerrille ORG has fallen off a freaking cliff after his hot start. And just FYI, I will not be mentioning injuries during this little surprise segment. I think that's just too obvious. Obviously, injuries are surprised and no one expected that, but that's a part of the game.I want to talk about more players not playing well as compared to what the standard or their expectation level was. That's why Corby Carroll's number one. That's why I think Lord Gouriel PERSON is number two because he started off this season so hot for the debacks even as recently as April 23rd, not that long ago. because he started off this season so hot for the debacks ORG,even as recently as April 23rd. Not that long ago. Lord Gouriel on April 23rd still had a 300 average in a 852 OPS. But since then, Gouriel had just three hits in his last 10 games. And if you look at his production, like from a run driving in perspective gurell was absolutely fantastic his first 19 games like kind of historic by debaq ORG's franchise standards like it was one the best first 20 games in terms of producing rbis that we've ever seenin dback's franchise history like it was one of the best starts ever, 21 RBIs in its first 19 games. But in his last 13 games or so, he had just one RBI. Gueriel PERSON has not been driving any runs. And as a man who's batting number three for the debacks ORG for majority of the season, you just can't have that happen.This debacks ORG team was rolling offensively when Gurriel PERSON was rolling offensively. And then as soon as he went a slump, this whole D-backs ORG team went a slump and their offense went in a slump. So for this offense, yes, they need Corby Carroll, number one, to get going. But they also need Lord's Gorell ORG to get going because it was pretty clear from the beginning of the season. When Gareel's hot, he can carry a lineup for a couple weeks when he's at his very best.

Number three, I think is the bullpen being just as bad as it's ever been. Yes, the Ryan Thompson's have been very good this season. Yes, I still like Kevin Ginkle, but even he's been shaky this year. Majority of that bullpen has been shaky to downright. Bad. Frias.Bad. McGuff. Bad. Castro. Bad. Kyle Nelson PERSON.Bad. Mantiply. Up and down. Ginkle PERSON, for the most part, good. But has definitely had some shaky moments like we saw in game number two. Outside of Ryan Thompson, it's been a really, really shaky pen. Justin Martinez PERSON has come up.He's been really good recently. Same with Logan Allen. But for a majority of this season, you just have not been able to trust his bullpen. And I get it. Mike Heisen PERSON did not address the bullpen at all this offseason, made no signings for the pen. But even though he didn't do that, I still thought there's DeBack PERSON's pen coming off the postseason would at least be league average. I didn't think we're all of a sudden going to have a top three bullpen in the national league, but I thought, you know, maybe like the seventh best bullpen in the national league, just be average. And it has just beenway worse than that, way below average. And so with Paul Seawald finally back, he's been dealing with injuries all year. Hopefully the bullpen makes a little bit more sense. But I think the pen has deeper issues than Paul Seawald PERSON. And I hope the debacks make some tough decisions like they just made with the Scott McGuff to send him down to AAA ORG. Hopefully the debacks make some more tough decisions with the relievers who are just not performing this year.

Number four for me on my list, Gabrielle Moreno PERSON, not taking a step forward offensively. We still all love Moreno PERSON. He's still a stud defensively, but right now, his offense just hasn't been good enough this season. They get a couple hits today. He has had some timely hits in the last couple weeks, but for the most part, he still has zero home runs on the year.Moreno PERSON has provided nothing from a power standpoint. And when your OBP is higher than your slugging percentage, there is a problem. He has just five doubles and one triple on the season. He's provided essentially no extra base hits, no power. And Moreno PERSON is something that we know can be a high contact guy at least. Can it at least be a 280, 290 guy. We know the power has always been the issue with him and might be the thing that holds him back. But the fact that he, the contact ability just isn't there right now. And it's both against Ritees and lefties.It's not even like, okay, maybe he struggles against Ritey's, but he crushes lefties. No, the numbers he puts up is basically the same against both of those pitchers. So Moreno PERSON is someone that we know can make a huge impact in this lineup. That's part of the reason he was moved up to number three in the lineup in the postseason. Moreno has more in the tank than what he showed this season. And he's another guy like a Cor McCarroll that needs to take that year to leap,or I guess it's year three now for Moreno PERSON. So like to see that year three breakout from Moreno this year. But don't know if it's happening. Don't know if it's ever going to happen. But I don't believe it's going to be as bad as it's currently looking like for Moreno PERSON. I do think you at least pick it up as the season starts to progress. And then the last thing, that's been a negative surprise for the debacks this year, is the Eugenio Suarez PERSON lack of power? I know we saw a home run in game number two,but that was only his third home run all year. Suarez PERSON, yes, maybe it's not a huge surprise because he's been a guy that's been in the decline a little bit the last couple years, maybe more than a little bit, maybe he's more over the hill than we realize.The slash line is not good. The extra base hits have not been there. Love the defense from a Eugenio Swares this year. I think he's been absolutely fantastic in that department. But offense just hasn't been good enough. And that's been the problem with a lot of the players in this debacks ORG lineup. The caros, the guerrilles, the Swarzes PERSON, some of the pillars that the debacks lineup. The caros, the Gurreels, the Swarzes, some of the pillars that the debacks really relied on entering this year have just not been consistent enoughdifference makers. And for this lineup to take it to the next level and go to the places that

Let's talk about the debacks going for their first sweep of the season. I don't know if this is a big moment for the debacks ORG. I don't think sweeps, you know, particularly just saying, oh, look at my team, they got a sweep. I don't think that's important for your team, but I do think just the idea of stacking wins is important for your ball club.Of course, D-back still below 500, still in the wildcard race. If you want to climb in that wild card race and actually own a wild card spot, you need to take care of teams like the Cincinnati Reds who have a lot of talent. I want to give full respect to the Reds ORG. I like their lineup. I like their rotation. But they are in a little bit of a tailspin right now, right?What is it? Seven game losing streak for the Cincinnati Reds. If the D-backs are as good as we think that they could be, especially with the expectations that we put on them entering their regular season, the D-backs do want to be that team, do you have to handle business against teams like the Reds ORG who, yes, have talent,but they are also injured. They are down a few bodies and they are in a tailspin. Take advantage of the situation you're in if you're the Arizona Dimebacks. The Reds ORG are not playing their best baseball right now. It could be a perfect opportunity for the debats to continue stacking wins, get their first sweep of their season, and continue their win streak, and increase it to four. Last year, the debacks got their last sweep of the season around mid-September against the Chicago Cubs ORG, and it would be very nice for the debats to get their first sweep of the season Thursday morning.We got Slade Cicconi on the mound going against Hunter Green PERSON, and I think it could be a pretty good pitching matchup. Maybe the name value, star value isn't there. Of course, a lot of people will know Hunter Green PERSON, but not enough people will know Slate Cicone. And just like a Jordan Montgomery, Slade PERSON is looking to bounce back after his worst start ofthe season as well because last week against the San Diego Padres, Slade PERSON admittedly did not have his best stuff in that game like a Jordan Montgomery entering his star against the Cincinnati Reds. Slade PERSON has been good in two of his three starts this year. First start, six innings, two earn runs. Second start, six innings, one earner run, eight K's. But then his most recent start against the Padres ORG, four point one innings pitch, six earned runs. So which Slade PERSON will we see? And I believe we willget good Slade PERSON on Thursday, because the numbers have, the numbers tell you, Slade has been very good this season. When we look at the average against his fastball last year, 265. We look at the average against his curveball last year, 375. The average against his change-up last year, I don't even think they have an average against it because he only threw it six times.But this season, the average against his fastball, 185. Again, 265 last season. The average against his slider this season, 143. Last season, it was 200. This season, his change-up, 176 average allowed. Last season, he only threw it six times.This year, he's already thrown it 35 times. He's thrown his change-up a lot more than he threw it last year. It's been a super effective pitch. Same with his curveball. He's only thrown it eight times, and he is yet to give up a hit on his curveball this year. The numbers tell you every pitch that Slate has thrown this year has been super effective, and it seems like he's throwing way more change-ups than he did last year and throwing just a tad less curveballs. It seems like he's switched up his usage. He's throwing more changeups as opposed to curveballs this year. And whatever he's done with his repertoire,it has worked out because he has looked very good in two of his three starts this year. And that's why I believe Slade PERSON will once again look good against the Reds on Thursday. Plus, when you look at last year's game log, Slade PERSON did start a big game against the Reds last year. Well, last year, this offense put in work against Hunter Green PERSON. In one of those starts in late August last year, Hunter Green PERSON started. I think it was like August 25th. 3.2 innings, five earned runs for Hunter Green PERSON. D-backs in that game, 10 hits, 10 walks.That's the offense that I want to see in the series finale. This team has not shown consistent life like that, especially when we talk from a plate discipline standpoint. We know the debacks ORG don't strike out, but how many games have we seen with the debacks ORG get double-digit hits and double-digit walks? Not very often, not too many double-digit walk games for the debacks at season. Yes, they have a bunch of high-scoring games, but how many games do they have where they are drawing a ton of walks?Last year's debacks ORG team was so patient, and I think one of the reasons was because of a Geraldo Pardomo PERSON, and I think this D-Bax ORG lineup is desperately missing a Pardomo at the bottom of the lineup, getting those quality at bats, and, you know, when he's getting on base and he's driving in runs,he feels so important as that number nine hitter for the Arizona Diamondback. So I think they're missing him right now. And I do wonder if when Perdomo PERSON comes back, if Johano Suarez PERSON does not turn it around,if we see some interesting left side combinations where it's maybe a perdomo at third, maybe a blazed Alexander at shortstop some days. I don't know. Just throwing it out there for when Perdomo gets healthy if Eugeniosaurus PRODUCT continues to struggle. But regardless, the Reds ORG, they're in a bit of a tailspin right now.They're on their own little losing streak and the debacks need to take advantage of it. The debacks are trying to get back in the wild card race as bad as the season has been. The D-backs are still not trying to get back in it. They're in the wild card right now, but if they want to own a wild card, they need to take advantage of situations like this. As bad as the season has been, as low as our morale has been at times,the D-BACs are still within two games of a lot of card spot.
