I've been covering sports in L.A. for ESPN, L.A. and NBC Sports Sports Radio dating back to 2007. The Clippers get the win today. Staying alive. Keeping hope alive. 1.0 was the final according to ESPN ORG. My computer froze at 1-0.116, 111, 111, the final. That was a thriller. Shots being made all over the place. Hall of Famers being Hall of Famers, stepping up when they needed to. That game just had all of the elements of a fantastic, thrilling playoff game. Didn't it all feel like it was a first round game? It felt like much later in the playoffs. But edge of your seat kind of stuff. And I'm not using that as a cliche. I literally was sitting on the edge of my seat many, many times.Like, what's going to happen now? Who is going to take over now? Oh, I don't even know where to start. I guess we have to start where it all changed and went back in favor of the clippers. And that would be in the fourth quarter thanks to James Hardin PERSON, just absolutely going off with that left-handed floater being brilliant. He had six of them in the fourth quarter, three in a row, when the clippers desperately needed buckets. So huge. His play was unbelievable. And I love being right. I love it almost more than winning, right? Winning is cool, but I love being right and winning. And I told you two nights ago that they cannot put Kawhi Leonard PERSON in this game if they have any chance of trying to win this series. Kauai Leonard's knee is not any worse today than it was two days ago. So kudos to Tai Lu PERSON. Thank you, Tylo, for having the Wayvos Rancheros to put Kauai Leonard PERSON on the bench. Amen. He was nothing but a liability. And I love Doris Burke PERSON. I got nothing against Doris Burke. And sometimes this is why watching a national ESPN feed or ABC ORG sports feed, they dumb it down for the people that don't pay attention.feed. They dumb it down for the people that don't pay attention. And they say, do you think that not having Kauai on the court could provide some clarity for the Clippers ORG? Do I think it's like with all of the gumption and clarity that I have? Yes. There was no way in hell that they were going to win this gamewith Kauai Leonard playing. So amen. Congratulations. Give Tyloo a pat on the back, a round of applause, a high five, knuckle bump, whatever it is you want to do because he was instrumental in that decision. I don't believe that his knee is any worse today than it was two days ago, but his game was not going to be any better. In the comments, after the last game, I saw a lot of Cooper fans feeling positive. They were trying to be uplifting and stay on the positive side of things that, hey, we're going to come back, we're going to rebound, Kauai PERSON's going to turn it on, et cetera, et cetera. I don't think that would have happened. Not only would he have not turned it on, but he probably would have drugged Paul George PERSON down with him.And thankfully, that did not happen. Paul George was absolutely on fire in the first half. What happened in the third? I don't know. They talked to somebody, was it, PJ Washington. I don't know who they talked to in between the third and the fourth, but they basically asked him, what did you guys do on Paul George who I think two pointsin the third quarter? And he said, oh, yeah, we were guarding him and blah, blah, blah, we were up on him, you know, tight defense. That's not what happened at all. Paul George PERSON just got tentative. I don't know why.Maybe he was out of gas after that first half. All right. Six threes. He was absolutely lights out. He did not miss. Thankfully, he got it back in the fourth quarter with that just disgusting shot from the corner.I mean, that was reminiscent of Kauai Leonard's Toronto shot that bounced off the back of the rim like three or four times. It was just, it seemed like the second it left his hand, I was like, no chance. And nothing but Nets ORG, that shot was just unbelievable. JJ Reddick PERSON, all of them. Doris Burke PERSON thought it was behind the backboard. He was on such a poor angle. But it was good footwork to drive the defender away and then take the step back to the corner and bury the three. And ultimately, it was the dagger. It was the game winning shot for the clippers. So congratulations, Paul George PERSON. Thank you. Welcome back to this series.I read some comments that he said he was tentative or afraid after getting into foul trouble two nights ago. And he only scored seven points. Let's not forget seven points. I think he had seven in the first few minutes of this game. I know he hit his first three. He was playing aggressive. It was just fantastic to see the way they came out. They were leading 39, 16 after the first quarter. That's just exactly what you wanted to see, aside from the fact that, let's be honest, Clipper ORG fans, we kind of knew that this was going to be close. There was not a moment in time that I thought, oh, wow, we're up 31. Hey, we're just going to cruise to victory. We're going to skip right across the finish line. Not even going to be an issue. No, I knew that they would get back in this game or Dallas ORG would get back. The Clippers ORG would let them back. Now, let me be clear, the Dallas Mavericks got back in this game because they were playing lights out in the third quarter. That third quarter was just insane. It was crazy. And I don't even know how to break it down. I'm going to try to just spend one segment after we do the bucket list on the third quarter because it was just all over the place. I mean, it was so electric in that building, the American Airlines Arena FAC or center or whatever they call it. And the crowd was definitely a factor.Again, Captain Obvious PERSON there. I think it might have been Doris Burke PERSON. Maybe it was JJ Reddick PERSON. Do you think the crowd is playing a factor for the Dallas Mavericks ORG? You think? They were just out of control.A play-by-play guy guy who I'm forgetting his name, he said, this is the first time in a long time where I can't even hear myself make the call in my headphones. It's so loud here. And that was when the Dallas Mavericks were down by 20. The Clippers were up 20, 25, and the crowd was going crazy. So if you're on your way to see the Clippers and Mavs game five, what is it? It's probably today's Sunday, Monday, it's Tuesday or Wednesday, I believe. You know, take note. Take note.Do not go in there with this ho-hum attitude, like you're too cool because you're from L.A. Look at what the Maverick ORG fans did. They got their team back in that game. They willed them back into that game. And obviously it helped the player. It helped out the players were making shots. But they clearly got energy from their fans. Tyree Irving banging down those threes from five foot beyond the arc was largely because he's a stud, of course. And he knows how to play basketball, and he's a very good player, one of the greatest of all times, whether it's in the paint, under the net, or from beyond the Ark, he can do it all. But he was thriving. He was feeling it when that crowd was going crazy the way they were. He finished the day with 40, six of 12 from Beyond the Ark. All right, let's hit the first break, come back, do the bucket list, spend a little time digging into that crazy third quarter and just, you know, continue to bask in the glory of a fantastic win for the Clippers ORG. 116.11 CARDINAL. I'm Pete Fox PERSON. Thanks for joining me here on the Lockdown Clippers ORG postcaston the Lockdown Sports LA ORG YouTube channel, and you can listen to us on the Lockdown Clippers ORG podcast feed. Speaker 4718.02s - 728.86s

That's the butterfly back for real. All right, Clubbers, even the series at 2, 116, 111.

Speaker 2728.94s - 815.86s

Let's get right into the bucket list. Almost, almost was going to just use that first half with Paul George and James Harden PERSON going off. It was more PG in the first half. Paul George had a, I'm sorry, James Hardin had impact in the first half for sure, but it was definitely all about Paul George PERSON. It got started for the deep threat beyond the arc for them at the 419 mark of the first quarter, a step back three from Hardin PERSON. That was niceto see. When his first one falls, you kind of have this sigh of relief, like, all right, he's okay. you kind of have this sigh of relief like, all right, he's okay. Because he can, he gets hot. He's a streaky shooter. And when it doesn't fall right away, you're like instantly worried. So I love seeing the fact that he hit his first one. It made it 1910.Clippers starting to pull away at that point on their way to a 31 point lead in the first half. It forced a Dallas ORG timeout as well. And you know, that's a meaningful basket. For the fourth bucket on the bucket list, a Paul George three came from Terrence Mann PERSON. It made it 30 to 14.He had three consecutive threes and 16 in the first half. It was at the 128 mark of the first quarter. And again, forced a Dallas timeout for Jason Kidd PERSON. Number three on the bucket list, Norm Powell had a three right at the buzzer as they were just pulling away, pouring it on, 39, 16, and as exciting as it was,

Speaker 0815.88s - 843.6s

that's when I started to get a little worried. Oh, no, here we go. We're going to have a huge lead and now we have to hold that lead and that's never easy. For number two on the bucket list, James Harden, another step back three was at five, the 543 mark of the third. It made it55, 24 and the clippers were just rolling at that point. And for number one, not surprisingly,

Speaker 2843.6s - 1500.32s

in the fourth quarter, the final few minutes, Paul George, that corner three, 152 to go. It made it 107, 105, and it was an unbelievable basket, but it was so desperately needed by the clippers at that point, because you felt like if they didn't continue to stay within one bucket, right? They went down by one.And I think that was their largest deficit of the second half. I think they were down four early and then down one in the fourth quarter. And I just didn't have a good feeling if they went down, if they went down by more than four, right? It just didn't feel like they were going to get back into it. So when Paul George hit that three to give them a two point advantage,oh, just a huge sigh of relief. And, you know, under two minutes, you felt like, all right, they can hold on. This got to make a few buckets. But again, it came down to James Hardin PERSON, just penetrating, dribble driving with that floater. How amazing was he in the fourth quarter? I mean, you just saw the brilliance of what James Hardin PERSON is capable of. The footwork, the handle, everything he does is amazing when he's on, right? His turnovers, I think pretty clean today. They didn't do a bad job with turnovers at all. So another thing that went in the column of,hey, don't turn the ball over. You're going to have a good shot at winning the game. They only had 12 turnovers when the Mavs had 16. So a thumbs up, a plus there for them in the turnover department. But let's dig into this third quarter. Kenny's still mad that they blew a 31 pointlead. I know. I was going to come in here, Kenny, and be like, how do you blow a 31 point lead? You should win by 20. But it's the playoffs. And they got Kyrie Irving and Luca PERSON. So I get it. I mean, Kyrie PERSON was just dive. He didn't even need to have an opening. Like, just give him the boss. And boom, three. He missed some, but finished with 40. And what was he from beyond the arc?Six of 12. So 50%. Luca PERSON was off from beyond the arc. He just seemed tired, right? Could that guy beg anymore? I know he's kind of a notorious flopper. But how about the begging for calls, ining concessantly whining and i like i don't know it's just annoying stop whining on then the he when the beginning of the game when he was whining at the raffing oh i'm sorry i'm so sorry i apologize shut up if you're going to whine own it like that's one of the things we can at least hang our hat on with russell westbrook when he starts weaving his hands at the referee ah it's ridiculous you're going to whine own it like that's one of the things we can at least hang our head on with russell westbrook when he starts weaving his hands at the referee ah that's ridiculous you're all stupid right he doesn't go oh i'm sorry i sorry i'm sorry he just owns it yeahi'm mad that was a dumb call and you're an idiot right luke is over there cowtowing did get a technical uh and uh it was just uh it was too much for me. And the hair, like, I don't know what, Luke PERSON is not a guy that normally bothers me. But today, he was just on my nerves. Like the hair all messed up, like he just got out of bed or got out of the pool. It's just, you know, fortunately, you know, he's 29 points, 10 of 24 from the field. But he wasn't burying those threes like he normally does, which makes you hate him even more when you're playing against him. But he had a triple double. 10 assists and 10 rebounds. Let me see what Edwin PERSON is saying here. I love how Kyrie PERSON tells the ref it's playoff basketball when they call the foul on him. But what's up with all the missed calls on the clips?Oh, dude. Amen, thank you for bringing that up. Fantastic point. That's a big part of what went on in the third quarter, right? I don't know if it was because that crowd was going off. But they're like Zubots got hammered multiple times through that one block shot where therewas three. They showed the replay. Three guys were contesting. Two of those guys fouled him. How was that not a foul? Like over and over again, that really felt like Tony brothers. And it's weird when you know a referee's name. Like that means something thatobviously that guy's been around 30 years. Generally speaking, he's a fair ref. Like, and knows how to deal with the superstars. But today I just felt like he got wrapped up in the fact that that crowd was going crazy and wasn't, you know, able to make the call sometimes. I don't know. He definitely had a home crowd lean there in the third quarter. Another thing I liked about that third quarter early on, right? Coming out of the break, Clippers up 66.49 at the break. That's after a 31 point advantage. So they went into the break up 17. So now you're starting to get a little worried that that lead is shrunk down to 17. But they came out and they were moving the ball, penetrated, kicking, passing the ball around the perimeter. And I was like, amen. I'm glad they didn't just come out and start doing ISO with Paul George PERSON because Paul George had a bigfirst quarter or first half brother. Paul George again got tentative. Westbrook PERSON started shooting too much, trying to do everything. And at some point, Westbrook PERSON just needs to understand. And he did make his first three. So that was nice to see. I don't think it was egregious today for him too many shots. But in the third quarter, there were times where he was, you know, trying to dribble drive and, you know, do the fancy footwork. And it just,it wasn't working. He made a couple of layups, but then missed more than he made. And of course, those always turned into transition buckets or open threes for the Mavs ORG. And fortunately, his defense was still there, still being a disruptor, knocking balls away, getting steals. Those things that Russell Westbrook PERSON continues to do are so meaningful. It's just I wish that he would stop shooting the ball so much. I don't thinkwe'd have a problem at all if Russell Westbrook, again, two of eight, that's not bad. I have to admit, that's not bad. I thought it was worse. So to to a certain extent I think he did curtail his shooting dial it down give the ball to James Harden try to get it to Zubots PERSON let Zubots score the the short chippy layups like he did a pretty decent job of today was better two nights ago but uh Russell Westbrook PERSON could have very well uh let this one slip through their fingertips. But his defense, his activity, his energy, those things that we've seen from him of late were still all there. He finished with five points and the one three, two steals. I thought it was more and two turnovers. So that kind of washes it out. One assist and three rebounds. But I don't know, again, I don't know if they give him credit for a steal when he knocks the ball away and somebody else ends up with the ball as part of a steal. So that to me is very, very important and meaningful and it makes life different or challenging for the opponent. And I think a lot of times he gets too much credit for that. But it's definitely meaningful. It's important to this team for sure. I thought Mason Plumley today, where are you Plumley haters in the comments? I don't see anybody hating on Plumley today. You know why?Because you can't. You can't hate on Plumley today. And we'll tell you why after the break. I thought he had a fantastic game. This is the Lockdown Clippers ORG postcast. They even the series at two games apiece with a 116-11 win in Dallas at the American Airlines Center Arena, one of those two.So nice win for them, 111, again, the final. I'm Pete Fox PERSON. So that is Wednesday. So off Monday, Tuesday and back at it in L.A. On Wednesday at 7. Of course, that is on TNT. Very good series. Very exciting game today. I don't know how I would have felt if the Clippers lost this one. As some of you have said in the comments, if they blow a 31 point lead,

Speaker 01500.32s - 1505.1s

we're going to come in here and not be happy. I don't know that I would have been as

Speaker 21505.1s - 1952.8s

infuriated as I was two nights ago because Kyrie Irving PERSON was just going off. P.J. Washington was hitting key buckets. Lukadanschich PERSON, not as hot as normal, but nonetheless still a fantastic performance with a triple double, doing what needed to be done, whining all along the way. He did a little bit of flopping today. Not too bad. He got, was it at least, there was, Paul George had two offensive fouls in the fourthquarter, which was really frustrating. Luca drew one of them. And to his credit, it didn't feel like a flop. They kind of just got tangled up and Paul George PERSON put that left arm up. The first one, I don't know if it was against him. I think it was somebody else. But nonetheless, drawing two personal fouls, offensive fouls, when you've got the ball, kind of unforgivable. But fortunately, Mason Plumlee PERSON had a fantastic game. The alley-oops that he scored were all meaningful, important buckets when the clippers really need a bucket. And not to mention, they were sweet, you know, it wasn't like he was cleaning up a mess. They were plays. One of them came from Russ PERSON, just nice pass. I thinkhardened through one to him, 14 minutes, three of three for six points. He had three assists and four rebounds, two blocks. So he was just doing it all. Meaningful minutes in a short period of time on the floor for Mason Plumley. So hats off and congratulations to him. The one issue I had in the fourth quarter was I didn't feel like they were guarding the perimeter all that well. How many times? I know they were gassed. After that crazy third quarter, clips got lucky. Come on, Johnny PERSON. You got me all distracted here. Clips got lucky. Come on, Johnny PERSON, you got me all distracted here. Clips got lucky. How'd they get lucky? Elaborate, please.I don't think they got lucky. James Hardin PERSON was not lucky making all of those baskets down the stretch. That was not luck. That was skill, my friend. Yes, Kauai Leonard PERSON needs to remain in street clothes on the, in the locker room for the remainder of this series, probably for the remainder of the postseason. Because there are, they, they don't need him, right? It's, this team is found away, found an identity without Kauai Leonard PERSON and throwing him back in there is, is like a turd in the punch bowl, you know. It reminds me of that famous scene in stepbrothers when Derek PERSON, the, you know, the jerk brother is talking to the parents. And they make reference to the fact that Brennan and Will Ferrell's character are still living at home at 40 years old or whatever. And he says something, it is 100% their fault. It was 100% Kauai Leonard's fault that this team was all discombobulated two days ago. And the fact that he's not playing, as much as I hate to say it, is good. It is what they need. It gives James Harden PERSON room to score. It gives Paul George PERSON the desire and the impetus to lead this team. Those two guys have room to go out there and be great. And then guys like Norman Powell and Amir Coffee and Terrence Mann PERSON can all fill in the gaps, right? They really do know who they are with those three or four other guys. Those guys don't get a ton of minutes. Terrence Mann had 35 tonight, did score 11, had three, three clutch threes out of six. But Norm Powell, four of eight, three clutch threes as well. Both of those guys, Terrence, man, two big threes in that third quarter that were very very needed when the clipperswhen the lead got down to two or four uh Terrence PERSON man made some key buckets so when you've got I've called for this all season why can't we just get a night where one of these guys goes off right and that's what we got today but it was from both of them they kind of picked up when the other guy took a respite if you you will. Paul George, the huge first half, James Hardin finishing with 33, they both had 33, Harden four of five from beyond the arc and Paul George PERSON, seven of ten from beyond the arc. They both picked up the slack when the other guy was nothitting buckets. But again, back to the point that they really weren't guarding the perimeter all that well. And they were leaving guys wide open to take open shots when it was Kyrie PERSON. Seemingly, it went in. Sometimes PJ Washington had some big ones, but there were some other ones that were obvious. We left that guy open for a reason, right? The double team was working somewhere else on Kyrie or Luca PERSON. It definitely worked on Luca. Terrence Mann deserves a round of applause and a high five for his performance today, just being up in the jersey of Luca Donchage PERSON. He was fantastic. I was just saying, is there any way that we can get him to guard Kyrie PERSON too? When Kyrie was going up, I'm all. All right, switch Terrence man off ofLuca onto Karee PERSON because he was doing such a fantastic job. But then I started wondering, all right, if they do that, then maybe Luca PERSON goes off. You know, you got to pick your poison. So fortunately, they did a pretty goodjob dealing with Kairi. Ultimately, they slowed down Luca PERSON enough to win the game. And that's awesome. So all at all, really the only main issue that I would come away from this game having is that the defense around the perimeter was not great. But it didn't matter all that much, right? As long as they can keep scoring and James Hardin and Paul George PERSON can find their way and just have that mantle of being able to go score. Tailu's commented, told James Hardin PERSON before the game, go be a scorer. Clearly he's capable of that. And today he showed it. So that was awesome.Again, Zubot, 6 of 11 for 13 points. Amir coffee started in Kau Leonard's place scoring four points, but had a couple of key baskets when they needed them. And yeah, they had a short rotation. Just three guys off the bench. Plumley with six, Westbrook with five, but played that huge defense role. And Norm Powell, three of five from Beyond the Art for 11 points. So all in all, a plus win, exciting game. I'm worn out. Let's call it a day. I will be back with you Wednesday at 7 to see what happens in game three backat L.A. Now that the Clippers have the home court advantage one more time. We have Kings tonight. Don't forget about that. What's going? Lakers winning game five are getting blown out is the question. That is a good one. I don't know. I think they'll probably get blown out. I mean, it's hard to keep, what's his name down? The guy, you know, the big guy, the pony guy. What's the thing? I don't know. I'm not thinking about Lakers and Nuggets ORG right now. I will be watching the Kings tonight and back on Dodgers postcast starting tomorrow. Again, thanks for joining me here. Clippers win at 116, 111, tying the series at two games apiece, heading back to L.A. for a Wednesday night game five. Thanks for watching us here on the Lockdown Sports LA ORG YouTube channel, the place to hang out when every game is done. And for listening on the Lockdown Clippers podcast feed, enjoy the rest of your done. And for listening on the Locked on Clippers podcast feed, enjoy the rest of your weekend.
