Speaker 50s - 130.5s

I'm going to be. Oh, oh, oh. I'm a lot of I'm doing it. I'm doing it. Timberwolves ORG will dribble it out in the front court. There were five ties in this game, but the Suns ORG never led in the game they had to win. The Timberwolves ORG dominate. 126-109. First time in franchise history. They've been up three games to none in the series. First time in franchise history, they've ever won three straight post-season games. They've done that with a victory here tonight. 126-109 is the final. 8-02 on a Saturday morning, and you are in the final. 8.02 on a Saturday morning and you are in the zone,

Speaker 1130.78s - 170.84s

just like your Timberwolves ORG on the fan. Good morning. What at all? I am Dave Seneca PERSON. Pleased as punch to be here for three. Count them three hours this morningand joined by my partner, the professor of hoopology, gopher legend, NBA ORG champion. Double T. Trent Tucker PERSON, the wolves. Lead the Sons ORG. Three nil.Again, the Sons had to have last night, and your wolves led wire to wire. Good morning. Good morning. Davey PERSON, how are you? You're pretty giddy today. I'm not necessarily looking forward to nine hours in the car, driving to Indiana following the show, but that's for later. I'll enjoy these three hours right now.

Speaker 7170.84s - 180.92s

It should be. Your team is playing well. Three-O lead in the Valley of the Sun LOC. We took their soul last night. The Wolves took the Sun's soul last night.

Speaker 1181.02s - 183.22s

Well, if they continue to play the right way,

Speaker 7183.68s - 230.22s

and I think you and I kind of talked about this a week ago, is that forced the Phoenix Suns ORG to have to play a brand of basketball that they don't want to play. And that is defending the wolves at the rim. And the wolves last night, you know, they took some very good three-point shots. You know, Alexander Walker PERSON had hit four threes, but they were good three-point shots. You know, they Walker had hit four threes, but they were good three-point shots. You know, they came off a penetration, they came off to extra pass. It wasn't one pass and aquick shot. And when you play against an offensive team that does not want to play defense, you know, make them work. Move the ball four, five or six times. You have enough time on a shot clock, you're going to find a good shot. and all of a sudden now you find the lane wide open for your drivers and slashes to get to the basket.

Speaker 1230.8s - 373.8s

I keep thinking to myself how the wolves seem to just be maturing in front of our eyes, you know, how far they've come from even a couple weeks ago. I kept hearkening back to two weeks ago today when you and I were day before the final game of the season, and we're speculating, you knowulating who would you most or least want the wolves to play and we had the sons and the Lakers ORG and the Pelicansand looking at all those teams and we said we both agreed we'd like to play the sons because they just don't match up well and then the next day the sons blow the wolves out drop them to the three seedand I feel like an idiot like well what am I thinking that the wolves haven't been able to the three seed. And I feel like an idiot. Like, well, what am I thinking? The wolves haven't been able to match up with this team. Why do we think we're going to beat them four out of seven? And they get the sons. And we last week sat here on the precipice of the series starting, and we both believed, not only would the wolves win game one, that we thought they'd win the series. Now, I thought it would be a hard-fought seven game series. It still could happen. But nothing that I've seen the last three games leads and to believe that this series is going to extend beyond five at the most. You talked about it, playing inside, playing smart basketball. I just, I can't get over the maturation of Anthony Edwards that we're just seeing before our eyes.Because how many games have we seen this season where he's forced things? When his shot's not falling, he's turning the ball over and just fighting himself. And he was a star in game one. We know in game two, the shots weren't fallen. The offense wasn't there. And it was the Jaden McDaniels PERSON game. But if you watch what Aunt did in that game, knowing that, okay, I don't have it, but look what I'm going to do to impact the game, making the right pass, playing incredible defense, setting screens, whatever it might be. His game has just evolved wherehe understands that he doesn't need to score 40 a night. And last night, you know, he had 36. He made all his free throws down the stretch. When they double him, he finds the open guy. And last night, you know, he had 36. He made all his free throws down the stretch. When they double him, he finds the open guy. When they don't double him, he makes himpay. I just, for me, these three games, what I take away most, is the development, the maturation of Anthony Edwards as a burgeoning superstar. And we've seen him prove it in the postseason against Memphis ORG. He was great. Last year against Denver ORG, he was great. He's doing everything well right now. When he gets to that level, the sky's the limit for this team.

Speaker 7374.76s - 382.46s

And just to harp on what you said, I still believe that he still doesn't know how to play basketball yet. He says that too.

Speaker 1382.46s - 389.8s

He agrees with you. He has a ceiling now that is still very, very high. He says that too. He agrees with you. He has a ceiling now that is still very, very high. He has an opportunity,

Speaker 7389.98s - 451.58s

I think, over the next two or three years to make the game easier for him to play. And last night, he still had too many turnovers. Once he realized all the things thatcomes to making himself a complete basketball player, the game is going to open up so much for him. It's going to be a whole lot easier to play. Like last night when I'm talking, what I'm talking about, Carl Anthony Townes PERSON has Devin Booker on him.Carl Endon Town PERSON goes in parks in the corner. The maturation, the next maturation for Anthony Evans PERSON is to recognize that and said, no, Rudy PERSON, get out of the way. Carl PERSON come to the poster. That's the next maturation for him because all of a sudden now, he's seeing the game from a whole different standpoint. And it's going to make his game even so much easier. Talking to the coaches about, okay, how can I get easier looks at the basket? Don't wear me down and don't wear me out. Yeah, at 24, 25, whatever he may be, or 22.

Speaker 1451.7s - 452.54s

22, yeah.

Speaker 2453.5s - 458.54s

His body doesn't need to take all the punishment right now to score 36 points.

Speaker 7458.82s - 468.76s

How can we make the game easier where he can play off for one bounce with his athleticism, where he can score 35 or 36 points that's going to prolong his career for many more years to come.

Speaker 1468.82s - 473.98s

Especially in the middle of a long playoff grind where you need to be 100% sharp night after night.

Speaker 7474.02s - 534.06s

Well, because at some point in time, their body can only take so many hits. And when you're young, you believe that you can absorb those hits on a nightly basis. But they began to worry on you as years begin to pile up. So if he learns how now not to take so many hits and still be very productive on the offense event and defensive end, when he gets to be 34 and 35, his body would still be fresh. Let's take a page out of Michael Jordan's PERSON book. When he realized that he no longer had to play one-on-one basketball against three guys from 28 feet, the Chicago Bulls became a six-time NBA ORG champion, and then when the games were coming down the stretch and we needed him to be at his best, he was able to preserve his bodybecause now he was playing basketball from a different standpoint. And I think that the sooner and the quicker the world's realized how can we put Anthony Edwards in better positions where he can be even more dominant, not just for the day but for the future, boy, he's really, really going to be good.

Speaker 1534.2s - 539.2s

And let's not forget. This is Ann's fourth season. MJ won his first title in his, I think, seventh season.

Speaker 7539.38s - 565.12s

So it does take time more often than not. And I just want to make sure that we all understand that at some point in time, you know, the body can only take so much. He's young, he's strong, he's very gifted, he's very talented, so his body is able to respond at the age of 22. But three or four or five years from now, if he continues to take this type of

Speaker 2565.12s - 572.28s

pounding, it may not respond the right way. So how do you create a system where now he doesn't

Speaker 7572.28s - 596.78s

have to try to beat everybody off the drill but every single time down? Set up some easy shots, run some screens for him. Let him get some open 15, 17 foot shots where now he can pump fake and get to the rim off of one bounce. Sometimes you can put your best players in a situation where they have to work so hard to make things happen and the longevity of their career becomes shortened just because of the wear and tear their head at the younger age.

Speaker 1596.9s - 602.76s

Speaking of which, I don't think he took a rest in the second half last night, did he? I think he played both the third and fourth quarter.

Speaker 7602.76s - 615.98s

And that's what's required of your best player at this time of the year. You know, but also even he has to play those types of minutes, you still have to make the game a little bit easier for him to play as well. It was

Speaker 1615.98s - 692.74s

a concerning start. Kat PERSON got off on fire, scored 10 points, but within the first eight minutes, Kat, Gobert PERSON, and Conley all had two fouls. And then a couple minutes later, Nas did. So you, and Conley all had two fouls. And then a couple minutes later, Nas PERSON did.So you had four key rotation players with two fouls in the first quarter. And you had a little lead, but you're thinking, how they pick up their third. Now, you know, everything gets out of whack as far as the rotation goes. And throughout the second quarter, even, you know, looked like the wolves had chances to pull away, but the sun stayed right there. I think it was a six-point game at the half. But a recurring theme of this amazing season has been the third quarter. The wolves have been outstanding all season long in the third quarter, and they have been in this series too. They've outscored the sons by 34 points in three games in the third quarter. And last night, as I said, they took their soul in the third quarter. 36 to 20, as you said, Nikiel Alexander Walker with the four threes and making everything in sight in the third quarter to just break their spirit. And that is a sign, I think, of good coaching and a team that listens, to listen to the adjustments and think about what you have to do coming out of the locker room and take the game away. And that's not just been this series. As we said, we've seen it night in and night out this season. That's just a great trait for a team that has championship aspirations.

Speaker 7692.94s - 745.48s

Well, that's the good trademark of most of the good teams that I had a chance to play for or play against. And that thing was that let's come out and start the second half the right way. Let's get off to a good start, the first five minutes of the third quarter to dictate how this third quarter is going to go. And then that's going to put us in a good position to close this thing out coming down and stretch. And the wolves have developed that mindset. But if you play basketball the right way, and I think for years we've always talked about, you know, basketball is a simple game when you play it the right way. And I think for years we've always talked about, you know, basketball is a simple gamewhen you play it the right way. And right now, the wolves are playing a simple game. They're not coming down trying to force the issue. They're allowing the issue in front of them to happen. And when your best players are comfortable and they understand what the coaching staff is asking them to do, good things happen for you. Yeah, that's been apparent for sure. We have so much to dive into about what the coaching staff is asking them to do, good things happen for you.

Speaker 1746.98s - 911.98s

Yeah, that's been apparent for sure. We have so much to dive into about what the wolves have done this week. The rest of the NBA playoffs will certainly spend a lot of time on the NFL draft, which resumes about three hours from now. We're, by the way, with you for three hours today. We get the extra hour taking you right into KFA and NFL ORG draft coverage. So what a perfect day to hang out for a fewhours. That gives us time to answer calls, to answer your text, and just chat as a text or sent in just a moment ago. Yes, yes, yes. Best week in Wolves history. Can't think of a better one.Yeah, there isn't a better one. There's never been a time when the wolves have gone up 3-0 in a playoff series on the precipice of a date with the Denver Nuggets in round two. We'll dive into it over these next three hours. 800-320-3-26. It can almost be like a Wolves Before Dark Morning Show if you want to chat with us.We'd love to hear from you. Also the Bradshaw and Brian KF PERSON. And text line 64686. Talk Back button and play on the IHeart Radio app. It's a great day to be a Wolves ORG fan. It's a great day to be in the zone. And we're back right after these. 818 on a Saturday morning. You're in the zone. Yeah. 818 on a Saturday morning here in the zone. Trent Tucker, Dave Sineken, Brett Blakemore PERSON, running things from across the glass. Three-hour tour for us today. Perfect day forward as we revel in the wolves' dominance, wire-to-wire over the suns last night, 126 to 101, to take a three games to none lead in this best of seven.First time the wolves have ever led a series three games to none. First time they've ever won three straight playoff games. And on the precipice of their first series win in the NBA playoffs in 20 years. And team effort, we've talked about Ant, we've talked about NAA ORG, we'll talk about everybody. One of the guys we haven't talked about is the freshly minted NBA sixth man of the year. Nas Reid, who I'm sure will be toasted at the next Wolves ORG' home playoff game with that award to the adulation of the fans. But as we were going to break and you were heading out for your little walk around the studio to get your steps in, you were praising the performance of the newest NBA's sixth man of the year. Explain why you've really loved what Nas PERSON has done in this series.

Speaker 7912.28s - 982.02s

Well, he has really grown as a basketball player, I think, over the last few weeks and understanding how he can help his team on both ends of the floor. And Nas PERSON really has been one of those guys who throughout the season has come in off the bench and been a guy who provide instant offense. You know, with his ability to drive the ball to the basket. He has good handles for a guy his size. And he shoots a three-point shot. But in this matchup against the Phoenix Suns, he has recognized that a quick three-point shot out the first pass is not the right thing for our offense to be doing. And he's taking the ball strong to the basket. He's recognizing that he has a huge size advantage when he goes to the rim. And the Phoenix Suns ORG has no one that can disrupt his move toward the basket. And they're just good smart basketball. And the reason the wolves are up three games to zero is because, for one, they haven't made the adjustments physically because they have the talent to do that. But they're playing some sound good basketball. And when you see that, you have to credit the coaching staff for getting that message across before this series started.

Speaker 1982.68s - 986.24s

I have such an appreciation for great defense, no matter this sport.

Speaker 7986.42s - 988.3s

I love a team that plays great defense.

Speaker 1988.54s - 1058.18s

And I think the wolves are showing the world what sets them apart from a lot of the teams that are still alive in these playoffs. The suffocating defense to play, the interchangeable parts they have, the way this team has been constructed with, okay, we can use some shooting, and we talked about that. There's nights when the offense isn't there, it'd be nice to have a Grayson Allen type to knock down threes. But given the choice, knowing you can break a team's heart with suffocating defense and make things difficult for three potential Hall of Famers the Sons have in their starting lineup and frustrate them for 48 minutes night after night. To me is a joy to watch. And what Jaden McDaniels has done to Kevin Durant, or if it's Devin Booker PERSON, you know, we just don't talk about that as much because it's not as noticeable, obviously, as the offensive end. But he is making – When he's guarding Kevin Durant PERSON, Kevin Durant is an afterthought. And that just seems preposterous to say. But I just, again, there's so much to love about this team. But when they lock a team down and play hard, you hear people say, nobody plays defense in the NBA ORG. They do?

Speaker 71058.38s - 1059.08s

Yeah, they do.

Speaker 11059.22s - 1066.44s

And when they do it well, it can be just about anybody, right? Well, yeah. I mean, you can take away jump shooters.

Speaker 71067.18s - 1113.96s

Get up in their space. And the problem the Phoenix Sunnis ORG is happening right now is that their top three offensive players have to work so hard to find space to get off good looks. And throughout a long season, they have played that way all season long, and now you get into a very tough matchup against a team that is willing to take away your space. You know, they can take your world away. They can take your soul away from competing. And when things become so hard and there are no easy outlets, mentally that begins to wear on you. And right now, the wolves not only physically have taken the sons out of this game sofar, they have mentally taken the suns out. And right now the Phoenix Suns ORG really don't know if they can beat this basketball team.

Speaker 11113.96s - 1173.54s

There was a moment last night in the fourth quarter. I felt it. I'm sure a lot of wolves felt it. Wolf's fans felt it. You're up 22 going into the fourth quarter and Frank Vogel PERSON makes a change, takesNerkich out, goes small, KD's the big man, bunch of small guy, old Kogi PERSON's in there, and suddenly they're knocking down threes. And so the wolves have to counter, you know, and they kind of go small too. Kat and Oz were on the bench for the last five or six minutes of the game last night, but the wolves countered. And when they, when they get it down to like 11? 12. Yeah. You know, I was, I had already tweeted, you know, can't wait to Reveld. But the wolves countered. And when they get it down to like 11? 12. Yeah. You know, I was, I had already tweeted, you know, can't wait to revel in the swim with double T tomorrow morning in the zone at eight. And I'm thinking, should I have done that at the end of the third quarter? Because, yeah, a 20 point lead is pretty hard to lose. But I was starting to get nervous because the threes were starting to fall for the Phoenix Suns ORG. but the wolves countered, locked down, made their free throws, and gets to the line time and time again, and they took care of business. But there was a moment there where I got a little bit nervous.

Speaker 71173.84s - 1246.98s

Well, because you knew at some point in time it's just human nature. You think the game is over. All of a sudden you have a lapse in detail, and you lose sight of a few people here and they're knocked down a few three-point shots and they make it a game. But, you know, we've talked about the maturity and the maturation of this team. You know, they didn'ttry to match them three-point shot for three-point shot when the sons hit two or three or four in a row. And they went back to playing their game, taking the ball back to the basket, making sure you're paying full of attention on detail, closing out, not giving up good looks from the outside. And once they got themselves back together after what I thought, you know, Chris Finch called the timeout at the right time to refocus his basketball team. Hey, we've come too far, all the good things we've done to get to this point in the basketball game.Let's don't give it away now. And when you find a team that's having this type of success and are able to make these adjustments at this time of the year, it's a collective effort from coaching staff all the way down to the players.

Speaker 11247.32s - 1330.98s

Tex are flying into the Bratown, Brian KF&T PERSON, and Texline, this one from Jake and Fan Cato PERSON. Good morning, gentlemen. Great show, as always. Fun to listen to you all season. Thank you for that. Got to go to the game Tuesday. It was one of the best atmospheres I've ever been a part of Kat PERSON's maturity and acceptance of his rolein this series is Clutch PERSON. So happy for him. Thanks for all you guys do. Kat PERSON's gotten in foul trouble the last couple games, which has taken him off the court for large bunches. But I do agree with what Jake PERSON put into that text. Cat PERSON has come a long way.And not a lot of guys who were the number one pick in the draft who've been the face of the franchise, their first, what, five years, got paid all the money, three-point champion, all that stuff, are willing to take a secondary role when they realize that an ascending superstar has joined his midst. Kat PERSON, you see him on the bench, you see all the body language. He's a good teammate. He has accepted his role, and he's grown this year. He's played defense when he's had to. He's changed his game and changed his role and he's he's grown this year he's played defense when he's had to uh he's changed his game and and changed his role not only the season but sometimes depending on the opponent um so you know you've said you said when the season started this team's going to go as far as cat goes not that he's the best player on the team but he's that x factor so what have you seenfrom him this season what have you seen from him these last three games that maybe has impressed you or some growth that you've seen from him?

Speaker 71331.14s - 1385.88s

Well, you know, you got your money. You've been an All-Star. You've been in the limelight for a number of few things here during an All-Star weekend. Now, all the players have to ask themselves the important question. Does winning matter? And if winning matters, that means that I'm willing to do whatever it takes to win. Being a good teammate is what it's all about. Because basketball is a group activity. We have to share in the same thought process and the same common thing about what we're trying to accomplish. And when all your players look at winning as being the most important thing, this is the type of production you get, this is the type of chemistry and camaraderie you build within your organization, and it's a wonderful thing to see. That said, we're also getting

Speaker 11385.88s - 1398.1s

texts on the other side. Great to see him maturing but the fouls. Some of the silly fouls continue to happen. Like he was setting a screen and just kind of, you know. Well, that means

Speaker 71398.1s - 1401.64s

that when you see your big man out in the open floor

Speaker 11401.64s - 1404s

setting screens and picking up offensive files,

Speaker 71404.84s - 1458.68s

the guard has to wait for him to get set. If the guard is moving when the big player is moving as well, sure, one or two things are going to happen. Either he's not going to set the screen or he's going to pick up a file. So patience with the guy with the basketball has to make sure that the big guy is in position where you don't put him in harm's way.The pick and roll is not effective if the guy doesn't set the screen for you because that means now the defender can stay with you and nothing's accomplished on this plate that you just called. And I think a little bit more patience, you know, from your guards with the basketball will keep the big guys out of harm's way. But I would like to see the wolves come out, and I know that I'm going old school here. That's what you do. Come out and run the first three plays for Carl Anthony Townsand put him on the block. Well, they kind of did that last night, didn't they? I mean, he got the ball early in often.

Speaker 11458.68s - 1460.78s

But he's catching the ball at the top of the key.

Speaker 21461.48s - 1463.5s

I want him catching the ball on the block.

Speaker 11464.24s - 1465.86s

First three plays, catch a ball on the block. First three plays catch a ball

Speaker 71465.86s - 1562.26s

on the block run across screen for him because if you put Anthony Evers on one side, let's say if you come down the court, you have Mike Conley Jr. PERSON on left side of the floor. Put Anthony Evers on the left block. Put Carl Anthony Towns PERSON across the lane on the opposite block. Have Anthony Evans go across instead of screen. What are the Finney PERSON's Son's going to do? They're going to switch from two to four.Mike Conjun PERSON, take your time. Let Carlinsettiles come across the lane. Give him time to get post-lip. Who's going to be got him? Either Bradley Bill or Devin Booker PERSON. I like that. Get him into the game right at where he turns. He doesn'thave to try to dribble and drive by somebody and run somebody. Catch the basketball, take a nice little jump stop, a little jump step, I mean jump step, and throw a little jump hook. Nobody's going to block it. All of a sudden, now you got him in the game on the first two or three or four possessions. It's going to force the Phoenix Suns ORG now have to switch what they're doing the defensive end.And that's going to create open jump shots, more driving lanes, and now the Suns ORG will have no idea on how to defend this team. Now you take Carl Asney Towns PERSON out of a situation where he's going to pick up some of these sunny files. I like it. I mean, so let's simplify the game for him because in today's game, they switch every pick and roll. They switch every cross. And if you have a talented player like Carl PERSON, that's any talents, knowing that you're going to have, you know, a Devin Booker or Bradley Bill or Gordon PERSON trying to defend him on the low block,

Speaker 01562.26s - 1566.32s

just feed him every single time and say,

Speaker 71566.86s - 1581.78s

punish these guys from four to six feet. And then when they make the adjustments, you're smart enough, you make the next play. All of a sudden now your teammates become more involved. And it puts us in a better situation to win the basketball game.

Speaker 11582.22s - 1583.22s

We're just getting started.

Speaker 71583.32s - 1584.2s

There's so much more to die.

Speaker 11584.28s - 1585.96s

We haven't even mentioned Rudy Gobert's PERSON name

Speaker 71585.96s - 1588.06s

and how important he has been and how well he's played.

Speaker 11588.56s - 1590.04s

Lots of text to react to.

Speaker 71590.46s - 1591.64s

We'll continue to do that.

Speaker 11592.88s - 1660.48s

Wolves are up, 3-0 on the Phoenix Suns ORG. They have evened the season series with the Phoenix Suns at three games apiece, winning the three most important ones. We'll continue to dive into it. Lots more NBA playoff conversation, NFL ORG draft conversation. We're with you till 11 today. Glad to have you along for the ride most important ones. We'll continue to dive into it. Lots more NBA playoff conversation, NFL draft conversation. We're with you till 11 today. Glad to have you along for the ride in the zone. On the fan. All right. On a Saturday morning, you're in the zone. Trent Tucker, Dave Seneca PERSON. We've got an extra hour for you today. We're with you till 11. We'll take you right up to KFAN NFL ORG draft coverage. From 11 till 3 today, I believe. Brett Blakemore PERSON. Is it meat sauce, Norto, the usual Viking ORG rubs? You're in the dark as much as I am.Draft coverage after you guys.

Speaker 41660.72s - 1662.64s

I'm assuming. 100% draft coverage.

Speaker 11664s - 1781.94s

Vikings ORG have five picks today after a quiet night as they watched I don't know, 60, 70 guys get drafted last night. We'll get your thoughts onyour purple here before we are done. But excited to be with you until 11 today. We'll dive into all the NBA ORG playoff series as well. But the lead story, the A topic, of course, your wolves are one game away from a date with likely the Denver Nuggets. And double T, we are probably a few days away of an NBA playoffs that does not include LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant. I don't know the last time we were in the conference semifinals where none of those three players were available but I'm guessinga lot of people listening right now we're not born at that time it's been it's been a while and it you know it's the changing of the guard a little bit right I mean in the NBA this is what happens guys to get into their mid late 30s and a newera of player comes in and now we're seeing the young wolves the young thunder obviously the mavericks are looking very good era of player comes in and now we're seeing the young wolves, the young thunder. Obviously the Mavericks ORG are looking very good. It's kind of a turningof the page, if you will. That's true. And the wolves are kind of leading that charge. And I want to read this text to you we got from Mike from New Richmond GPE who asked if I saw Ant PERSON's interview with Scott Van Peltlast night on ESPN ORG, which I did. He'd love to hear your take. Anne PERSON said basically he's never done anything. He doesn't know how winning the series feels yet. He's hungry. Trenton, he says you've been around a lot of NBA ORG players, obviously. How much does the humility that Ann PERSON projects speak about who he is as a player? Because Scott Van Pelt PERSON was trying to get him going, like, you're your game away from you know sweeping this team like you're on a role this teamhas some serious high aspirations how you feel I mean what have you you got to be excited about where he's like we haven't done anything yet and we haven't and that's what you want to hear from your young superstar right? I mean

Speaker 71781.94s - 1818.68s

he's recognizing that we haven't done anything yet yeah we won three games but we all know it takes four, and no one has come back from an 03 deficit, you know, but crazier things can't happen. And so stay in focus and making sure that, hey, let's keep our eyes on what we're trying to accomplish here. And that's winning four games against the Phoenix Suns ORG before we begin to think about where our next opponent will be.And when your best player has that mindset, that's good for your basketball club.

Speaker 11819s - 1869.62s

I think a lot of Wolves ORG fans, a lot of any sports fans, you know, when you've got potentially the guy on your team and everybody's telling him that you're going to be the guy. And that's all that ads heard, whether it's Stephen A. Smith or Perkins or all the national talking heads who watch Ad play and just love what they're seeing from him on the court. Now you're hearing them loving what they're hearing from aunt PERSON talking about his game because they understandthat he gets his place in the stratosphere. He understands where he is and what he wants to be. Not every player has that. And the factthat Aunt, you know, goes on with Malika Andrews PERSON in an interview last week and says, she says, you know, one to ten, where are you in your journey? Like how close are you to be the player you want to be? Five, now I'm a five.

Speaker 71869.62s - 1870.24s

A long way to go.

Speaker 11870.36s - 1887.52s

I don't think he's a five. I think he's probably a seven, which still is a long way to go. But, you know, you hope that all fans hope that their superstar player never gets to a point where, okay, I've made it. Yep, everybody knows I'm the best, so I'm the best. That's what I am.And that's nowhere near that.

Speaker 71887.66s - 1908.92s

That's not in his DNA. Well, you only become the best when your teammates are good enough to help you get there. And all of a sudden, they are unselfish enough to allow you to have that space. And when your teammates become unselfish to give you that road to travel, you have to pay it back to them by being unselfish as well and trust in them.

Speaker 11908.96s - 1924.62s

Yeah, I mean, he says Kat PERSON's the best player on this team. You know, coming off the court in game two, you saw him walking through the tunnel, screaming Jaden McDaniel's PERSON name, how he's the man. It's a group activity. But there's something about this team. I mean, not all teams do really root for each other.

Speaker 71924.68s - 1992.26s

I don't believe that. That's very, very true. But the good teams that get to a point where they have a chance to call themselves champions, they understand what it takes to get it done as a group. We may not all hang out together once the game is over. We may not become the closest of friends outside of the game. But when we come together collectively and put on that uniform and at this time of the year,we understand that we have to be connected. And we have to do whatever it takes to put our teammate in a situation to win. Jealousy has to go out the door. Envious PERSON has to go out the door. One-on-one and me being the best guy has to go out the door. It's about us as a team now.The name on the back of the jersey is not the most important name. It's the name on the front of the jersey. And right now he says wolves, and we have 12 or 15 guys that will put on their jersey and if we are going to win an NBA ORG championship someday, it's going to take 12 with 15 guys coming together to get it done

Speaker 11992.26s - 2042.12s

20 years ago you and I went to virtually every game at Target Center FAC in the postseason as the wolves were on their remarkable journey to the Western Conference ORG finals we did not attend games one or game twoI don't believe you were there were you? No, I haven't been to a game all year yeah you haven't been to aals. We did not attend Games 1 or Game 2 EVENT. I don't believe you were there, were you? No, I haven't been to a game all. Yeah, you haven't been to a game. So we did not experience the vibe at Target Center FAC, Games 1, game 2. You certainly saw it through your screen and felt it through your screen.Part of the reason that that place is as electric as it is, is they got an outstanding on-court host, John Barry PERSON, who does an amazing job getting that place riled up. And he's been kind enough to call into the program. I put out the bat signal because he had to tweet it out how excited he was to listen this morning, and he has now called into the Connecticutco Water Systems ORG hotline.MC, John, man, you must be having the time of your life these days.

Speaker 02044.18s - 2056s

The time of my life is right now being on with Dave and Trent and this is like a full circle moment. I've been listening to you all forever. So I'm excited to be on with you guys this morning. This is amazing.

Speaker 12056.46s - 2057.54s

So I'm having the time.

Speaker 02057.64s - 2058.26s

I appreciate that.

Speaker 12058.3s - 2059.26s

We're excited to have you.

Speaker 02059.68s - 2062.22s

Let's start here because, you know, lifelong Wolf ORG's fan.

Speaker 12062.28s - 2063.46s

How did you get the gig?

Speaker 02064.1s - 2103.96s

You've been doing it forever because when I had, you know, season tickets, you'd from time to time stop up and dab me up and say, hey, which I always appreciated. How did you get the gig and I'm guessing you'd like to never let it go? I got lucky, Dave. I just went for an open audition. I was a season ticket. I'm still a season ticket holder like you, Dave. I just went for an open audition. I was a season ticket.I'm still a season ticket holder like you, Dave. And I was like, hey, I could do that. You know, I would watch the people who did that. And my wife texted me one day. She said, put your money where your mouth is for the open audition. So I went to audition.Three auditions later, 10 seasons later, I'm talking to you guys on a Saturday morning.

Speaker 12103.96s - 2128.52s

It was very fortunate. Well, Wals ORG fans are happy to have you, too, because you get that place rocking. You know how to do it. It's either in your DNA or it's not. It's definitely in yours. Take us back to, you know, earlier this week, games one, game two. What's it been like being a part of that and what was your experience? I mean, the noise, the excitement came through on the TV, but what was it like being there?

Speaker 02131.14s - 2137.78s

Like you guys, I was at Game 1 versus Denver 20 years ago as a fan to be in the upper deck.

Speaker 32137.86s - 2141s

So that moment's not lost on me that I get to lead the fans.

Speaker 02141.66s - 2147.92s

And it was, maybe it was electric in that building last Saturday. I don't think I've ever heard it louder

Speaker 42147.92s - 2149.18s

in that building.

Speaker 02149.3s - 2164.7s

I mean, you had some, it was crazy. Trent PERSON, I was, I had a decibel readeron Tuesday. It got to 111 at one point. And it was, it was, I probably will lose hearing when I'm 45.That's how loud it was.

Speaker 72164.86s - 2214.6s

But that's the beauty of it. I mean, that's why, you know, when you talk about playoff basketball and the city is excited, the community is excited, the state is happy. And everyone who is a part of the organization in some fashion form here at this time of the year, everybody, you can feel the energy, you can feel the excitement. And I don't know,I was there in Game 7 EVENT in 2004 when they played the Sacramento Kings ORG. You know, I haven't been to either one of these first two games here or there, but that was a loud night when they were able to close all Chris Weberand Sacramento Kings ORG and move on to play against, you know, at that time, the late Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neill PERSON for the Western Conference championship. But it has to be fun for you to be a part of that atmosphere.Absolutely.

Speaker 02215.1s - 2231.32s

As a lifelong rules fan, you're just excited to get to this point. We've never had a 3-0 lead. We've never won three in a row. So I think Max PERSON said it best. We've never been here before. We don't know how to act, butwe're just going to be crazy and fun and just have a good time.

Speaker 12231.96s - 2289.52s

We're talking with Wolves ORG, on-cored John Barry PERSON, kind enough to check in with us on a Saturday morning in the zone. I imagine when you're doing your thing and you know, you don't see specific faces necessarily. You see a lot of the familiar faces that are there night in night out but obviously you realize that every game there are hundreds if not thousands of people that have never been to a game at target center and the experience not just you know the 48 minutes of action which is obviously what they came for but the experience that you and your team provide before the game during timeouts between quarters adds to that experience that they're going to take with them. It might be the only game they ever go to.And I imagine that that is not lost on you and the folks you work with, especially when we get to this point in the season when these games in the playoffs are, you know, the place is packed, the electricity is there. You know that you're on the court doing your thing for some folks that may never see a game again. Absolutely.

Speaker 02289.9s - 2326.12s

That is not lost on me. And that's why I bring it every night. People are like, well, what happens with those games in January and February? I was like, that is another game, another opportunity to show how much fun Tim Roles Basketball Target Center is on a night in and night out basis. Can I ask you guys a question real quick as a fan? Of course.I know that we all want to see them clinch a series at home. We'd love that. But I'm in the mindset of give no hope and this in four. You don't want to give Phoenix ORG any sort of hope, right? Am I on the right track for this? No doubt

Speaker 72326.12s - 2347.64s

about it. I mean, close out this thing as quickly as you can is because, like I said, they have three guys over there that can get hot at any given time. And if you give them just a glimmer of hope, you know, this thing could change very quickly. I mean, the wolves have them in the situation right now mentally what the Phoenix ORG sons don't believe that they can beat this basketball team.

Speaker 12348.14s - 2379.76s

Yeah, not only that, Denver appears to be on the precipice of sweeping the Lakers ORG. You'd like to have about the same amount of rest time as Denver ORG has and not give them a big advantage of waiting in the wings for the wolves to do their job. Let's ask you a basketball question, John PERSON, as a lifelong fan. You've been at every game, obviously, and you're working, but you're obviously watching the game as well. What has, have you been most excited about seeing this team develop as the year has gone on to become the team they have? What has impressed you the most, what has excited you the most as you've watched this team grow this season?

Speaker 02381.36s - 2411.84s

I think we've all seen the camaraderie of this team. They all root for each other. They all want to see each other succeed. You saw everybody at Nas Reid's Sixth Man of the Year award announcement, giving nod the love that he deserved. Everybody wants to see everybody do well. You saw it from the beginning of the year in Abu Dhabi GPE. I saw they all came together to right now with that moment. It really helps this playoff basketball team get further and further along in the Western Conference. Well, I just

Speaker 12411.84s - 2436.04s

wish that the Wolves ORG had home court advantage in the presumed next series, so the Wolves ORG fans had a chance to see you four times against the Denver Nuggets and not three. But we'll make do. We're excited forseeing you on the court to get the fans riled up. We're excited to watch you do your thing. You're the best in the biz. Glad to have you on the program, John PERSON. Thank you for calling in. Keep doing what you do, my man. Thanks, guys.

Speaker 02436.12s - 2437.34s

Appreciate you having me this morning.

Speaker 12437.5s - 2442.8s

Of course, John Barry, the MC at Target Center FAC. That's such a cool story, you know?

Speaker 72443.26s - 2444.98s

He has to be having a time of his life.

Speaker 02444.98s - 2450.72s

Oh, I mean, you're a lifelong fan sitting up in the boonies 20 years ago, and now you're on the court getting that place.

Speaker 12450.82s - 2468.12s

I mean, the power you wields, right, with that microphone, and 20,000 people just ready to go crazy. And he's so good. I've enjoyed his work, and it's just a great story. So I'm glad he checked in with us there. I wanted to touch base on Rudy Gober PERSON, because we've talked about some of the heroes.

Speaker 72468.96s - 2473.96s

He, there are, there are, there are, I remember before, well, the trade happened, you know,

Speaker 12474s - 2505.96s

the defense is great under the basket, but don't get him out in space trying to stop people and close out because he can't do it. Nothing could be further from the truth. I mean, we've seen him go and challenge Devin Booker PERSON, Devin Booker PERSON out in the corner and, you know, closing out last night on Kevin Durant shooting from 25 feet.We talk about, that's the MVP of this team. We understand that. But what Rudy Gober PERSON is brought to this team on the defensive end, and then you get the humorous moments like the Eurostep with the travel that didn't get

Speaker 72505.96s - 2507.6s

called last night. He did.

Speaker 12507.94s - 2530.04s

But we'll allow it. I can't believe they didn't call it. When he's in the open court, it's entertainment like nothing you've ever seen. But that's fortunately a few and far between what he brings to this team. And we talk about the defense and that's what he's all about. But as several people have texted and remindedus this morning, he's making all his free throws. And I don't want to

Speaker 72530.04s - 2551.94s

I don't want to jinx him because we got a long way to go. But the team made 87% of their free throws last night. At made them all down the stretch. But Rudy PERSON is a project. He's what a 60% free throw shooter. He's making themall right now. And that's just a bonus. That's what you hope for. You don't want to hack a Rudy PERSON. What I've seen in his technique,

Speaker 12553.6s - 2555.1s

his elbow is up a little higher.

Speaker 72555.48s - 2599.16s

For the free throws? Yeah, because now he's getting a little bit more loft on his shot to get the ball over the front of the rim. And when you see a flat shot, whether it's a jump shot or at the free throw line, that means that the elbow now is either at the shoulder or below the shoulder. You don't have to shoot the ball with more arc, but once you raise the elbow above the shoulder, it's going to give you the arc that you need to get the ball of the front of the rim. And he's doing a very good job with that. And you need your inside players who are going to be on the floor for a large portion of the game, and especially at the end of the game, have the confidence that they can step to that charity stripe and knock down those free throws. And so far, so good for the wolves.

Speaker 12599.36s - 2603.74s

Yeah, it's just one of those things in the playoffs where if it's not happening, it may cost you a series.

Speaker 72604s - 2605.32s

Oh, no doubt about it.

Speaker 12605.68s - 2610.24s

Because when they got it to 12 or 14 last night and all of a sudden he gets filed,

Speaker 72611.24s - 2646.82s

you're thinking that, okay, if he doesn't make these two in a 12-point game, they go down and hit another three. It's a 9-point game. They may file him again. And if it's in his head that he can't make free throws, all of a sudden now the head coach has to make a decision.I'm taking off my best inside defender off the floor is because he can't make free throws. And now the Phoenix Suns ORG are starting to creep back into this game offensively. But when Rudy Gober PERSON can make free throws, that's a major plus for the wolves.

Speaker 12647.06s - 2659.28s

100%. Size matters. The fan has learned. It certainly does in this series. 50 to 28 edge on the glass last night for the wolves. Points in the paint, 56 to 36.That's what should happen, right?

Speaker 72659.28s - 2690.52s

When you're playing the team like Phoenix ORG. How do those small guys into submission? Don't allow them to run around and be free and you play their style of basketball. Like we talked about before this thing started. Everyone was concerned abouthow will the wolves be able to guard this team? No. How will the Phoenix Suns ORG be able to deal with the size and the strength of the Minnesota Timberwolves if they play the game the right way. And right now we're seeing total domination at the rim and in the

Speaker 12690.52s - 2724.1s

paint. Wolves one game away from a date in the Western Conference ORG semifinals likely against the Denver Nuggets who are also one game away from ending LeBron James and the Lakers season. Much more on the wolves over the next two hours. Yes, one hour down, two hours to go. When we come back, we'll take a look at the other playoff series in the NBA ORG. Plenty of NFL ORG draft conversationwill react to an amazing night for the Vikings on Thursday night. And I've had a pretty good night for the Packers last night. Plenty of NFL conversation, but we'll return to the other series in the NBA ORG when we come back

Speaker 42724.1s - 2758.76s

in the zone. We are back 9 o'clock on a Saturday morning.

Speaker 12758.76s - 2785.64s

You're in the zone. We've spent the first hour chatting about the Minnesota Timberwolves Up 3-0 on the Suns ORG. Game 4 chance to pull out the brooms. Tomorrow night, you'll hear the game right here on your home. For Timberwolves basketball, I believe, tip off slightly after 8.30.Tomorrow night, try to take care of business, rest their bodies, and get set for the champs. And we'll chat about a potential matchup of the nuggets.

Speaker 72785.64s - 2787.24s

Just the entire game last night.

Speaker 12787.82s - 2792.7s

Of course. And not only that, like many Will's fans, I could not go to sleep right away.

Speaker 72792.8s - 2794.12s

Like, I was wired at that point.

Speaker 12794.98s - 2810.62s

It was not easy to just turn my brain off to think that this team that was embarrassed by Phoenix two weeks ago in a game that meant everything, a game that gave you a chance at the one seed. And to avoid this team at playoff time in the first round?

Speaker 72810.72s - 2818.72s

Yeah, exactly. Put them in a play-in type situation, hopefully that they get beat, and you don't have to face them at playoff time.

Speaker 12818.72s - 2833.5s

Right, and not only that, I mean, it was not even a contest. I mean, you're blown off the court in the first 12 minutes. I mean, it was not even a contest. I mean, you're blown off the court in the first 12 minutes. So, yeah, it was hard for me to shut things down and go to sleep. I'm sure a lot of Wolves fans were up pretty late last night.

Speaker 72838.66s - 2876.34s

Well, I mean, you know, when you get to this time of the year, every possession matters. And the wolves have done a very good job of taking care of the basketball. The only guy that has been kind of loose with the ball has been Anthony Edwards. And he has to be a little bit careful with the ball, especially in close situation or in tight situation when the defense is closing out on him. Get your head up. You see two or three guys running at you. Make the quick next pass.Allow your teammates now to make a play from there. But when you value those possessions, especially on the road at playoff time, it gives you a chance now to control the tempo of the game.

Speaker 12877.14s - 2882.34s

And they have thrown everything at Anthony Edwards this series. And so, yeah, there have been some turnovers. You want to see that cleaned up.

Speaker 72882.42s - 2887.5s

Sometimes they're enforced because he's, you know, Carlton Towns PERSON try to throw behind the back pass. No, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 12887.54s - 2890.92s

Yeah, against the season finale, yeah. Rudy PERSON tried to throw behind the back pass.

Speaker 02891.14s - 2892.26s

Hey, hey, hey, hey, uh-uh.

Speaker 12892.42s - 2894.38s

It's not November anymore. No, no, not now.

Speaker 72894.76s - 2916.04s

You know, this is not, it's not playgrounds time. Make sure that keep the game simple. Don't get ahead of yourself. You know, we have a prize that we are chasing. And to get to the prize that we will all like to get to at some point in time, we have to take care of the first step. And right now we have to make sure that we finish off the Phoenix Suns ORG to right way.

Speaker 12916.48s - 3092.82s

It was for us hoops junkies, a long day of basketball because it began extra early. ESPNA ORG triple header. So the first game was at 430, and the Wolves game ended eight hours later. So it was eight hours of basketball with the NFL ORG draft in between. It was a, you know, for me, it's almost Christmas. It's beyond Christmas Day because you get Wolves ORG playoff basketball.I got Bucks playoff basketball, and I had four major buffet for you right now, right? It has even a better way to put it. Buffet, exactly, because you know what, you know, my heart lies with my stomach. So it's like going to like the Super Moon buffet down the street with a million choices. And the Packers had four picks. It was an active night for the draft for Packer ORG fans.It was just a great night if you love football in the NBA ORG. As I said, it began with Bucks Pacers, a 4-30 tip-off, and I went into that game as a lifelong Bucks ORG fan with very low expectations, knowing that Yannis was out again for game three, knowing that that place in Indy GPE was going to be nuts, knowing that Chris Middleton PERSON was playing with a bad ankle, and Dame is not 100%. I expected Indiana ORG to just kind of run off the court. And they were up 19 early. It went just the way I thought it would. Miles Turner had 29.He's making threes. Tyrese Halliburton PERSON had a triple double. He was not making threes, but he was making all the right moves. And I was probably more, when it got to be about an 18, 19 point lead. I'm watching the draft at that point. I had lost my enthusiasm.I put the game on my phone and suddenly they creeped back into it. And Chris Middleton PERSON went crazy. Ended up with 42 points. Bucks took the lead in the fourth quarter. And I had to say, I was really impressed with the Bucks ORG team playing without their leader in a hostile environment. I guess the team that had beaten them five out of six times this season.Yeah, the Bucks were the higher seed, but the Pacers were favored because of Janus PERSON's absence. And I don't know if you watched the end of the game and the end of going to overtime. It was, the other two games were not too exciting from a regular fan standpoint. They weren't close. Last night's game between Indiana and Milwaukee GPE was spectacular. Unfortunately from Milwaukee, Dame Lillard PERSON aggravated his Achillesinjury late in the fourth quarter and couldn't, like he couldn't shoot. He couldn't get any lift. So he became a decoy. It was all Chris Middleton PERSON. And the end of regulation, Indiana ORG hits a, I think it was knee-smith, hits a corner three to put the Pacers up three with seven seconds left.Bucks ORG get the ball. Chris Middleton with a bank shot three from the top of the key to tie the game with one, I guess it was about seven seconds left when he made that basket. And Indiana calls timeout, Halliburton ORG in the huddle. We win it right here. We win it right here. He takes the ball, goes ISO. Patrick Beverly files him and one. Pacer's go up three with a

Speaker 23092.82s - 3098.3s

second left. Bucks game's last chance shot does not go in. And Indiana wins by three to take a

Speaker 13098.3s - 3136.46s

two one series lead. But it was a really entertaining game. And as a Bucks ORG fan, I didn't have high hopes. I was pleased that they made the comeback. And as a Bucks ORG fan, I didn't have high hopes. I was pleased that they made the comeback. And Middleton PERSON was amazing. He's not 100%. He hurt his ankle in game two, but he had 42. But clearly the Bucks, without Yannis, are a diminished team. And I don't know with the calf strain. I don't think they'll have him for the next game. But maybe their hope is if they're down 3-1, then he comes back for game 5 and they try to rescue the series. But yeah, just a disappointing playoff experience for the Bucks ORG because the injuries just have cost them.

Speaker 73136.76s - 3178.56s

Well, I mean, at this stage when you plan against a team that wants to get up and down the floor, they're young, the full of energy. High-scoring team in the league. Right. So why are we trying to play that way against them? When you know that you have certain pieces to your puzzle that can offset their speed and quickness, and you're going to force them now have to play a different way. Now, I haven't seen any of the three games between the bucks and the pace. So I'm going to rely on you to give me, you know, the answers to my questions. Where's Brooke Lopez PERSON at? He was down on the court at the end of the game last night, which was a bit surprised.

Speaker 23178.94s - 3185.46s

So if he starts the game, where is he at on the floor, on the offense event? Is it the three point line,

Speaker 73186.02s - 3187.14s

or is they posting him up?

Speaker 13188s - 3197.92s

I would say he is playing down low a bit more than usual with Janus PERSON not in there. They're just undersized. Bobby Portis is playing for Janus PERSON. But yes, he does take a lot of threes. And that's the

Speaker 73197.92s - 3297.86s

problem right there. Because they are playing right into the hands of a younger team that likes to play this way. And when you don't have your best player, you have to make some adjusting with the personnel that you're going to put on the floor. Brooke Lopez PERSON has played with his back to the basket before.I know that in the latter part of his career now, we're playing with Janus PERSON. He's become more of a three-point shooter. The wolves made an adjustment against the team that beat them three times during the regular season. They had the personnel to make the changes. The Milwaukee Bucks have the personnel to change the way they play.If they continue to play this way, yeah, they're going to go home without Yonis PERSON. But if they are willing to change and force the Indiana Pacers ORG to do something different at this time of the year, they might be able to survive and get to the second round and give Yon's a chance to come back. Comes down to coaching. You have to understand every series that you play is going to be different. I know that we play this way throughout the regular season with thesecastor characters, but we don't have these castor characters in four. So now for me as a head coach, along with my staff, how do I take these players right here, knowing that I have the personnel to make changes, to give them the best chance to be successful? The Milwaukee Bucks should be able to beat the Indiana Pacers ORG without the Janus is because they have the personnel to do something different to get the job done. And if the head coach or the coaching staff is not willing to see that, shame on them.

Speaker 13298.38s - 3302.24s

Well, to your point, when the Bucks ORG are shooting threes and missing them, yes,

Speaker 73302.32s - 3306.38s

you are playing into the Pacer ORG's hands because they're spectacular in transition.

Speaker 13306.62s - 3310.08s

They get up and down the court. They've got guys that can finish.

Speaker 73310.28s - 3361.64s

And they don't play defense. Correct. They do not play defense. So make them play defense. Slow the game down. I know Dame ORG likes to come down and shootthree-point shots. By the way, no, we have to make adjustments now on how we will have a chance to win this playoff series. It has to be about, not about what you have done during the regular season, not what you have done throughout your career. This series is totally different. How are we going to beat this basketball team?We have to make those adjustments. And if you are not willing to make those adjustments or you can't see the adjustments that you need to make, same on you, man. Because the Milwaukee Bucks ORG can win this series. Just because Yonis PERSON is not here, doesn't mean that the Milwaukee Bucks ORG can't win.

Speaker 13361.68s - 3363.9s

Well, they came within a whisker of taking a two-one lead.

Speaker 73364.06s - 3367.06s

There you go. Last night. Can I just go back to game one for a whisker of taking a two-one lead. There you go. Last night. Can I just go back to game one for a second?

Speaker 43367.24s - 3375.84s

Yeah. I know you didn't watch it, but. Dame had 35 in the first half. It was unbelievable. It's just, it was so fun to watch a guy

Speaker 13375.84s - 3395.04s

ply his trade that just... But he didn't score a basket in the second half. He did not score in the second half. No, they had a big lead and they never got, you know, particularly close. But how does that happen? How do you put 35 up in the second half. Now, they had a big lead, and they never got, you know, particularly close. But how does that happen? How do you put 35 up in the first half of a game one? Now, he didn't shoot much. Like, it's almost like he said, okay, I'm worn out.

Speaker 73395.18s - 3396.54s

I'm pretty tired. He had it going.

Speaker 13396.86s - 3397.5s

He had it going.

Speaker 73397.64s - 3397.82s

Yeah.

Speaker 23398.06s - 3403.4s

But, you know, when you talk about how do you win at this time of the year?

Speaker 73404.52s - 3407.44s

And the mindset has to change.

Speaker 13408.76s - 3414.12s

You know, when I sit down in that fair room with the staff

Speaker 73414.12s - 3456.1s

and we talk about how did we design a game plan here or there, the first question I ask, do we have the personnel to change? Do we have the personnel to play a different way? And if you tell me as a head coach, the answer is yes, okay, then I need for you guys, along with myself collectively, you know, to come up with the game plan that's going to give us the best chance to win. Because playing this way here against that team, without that player,we don't have a great chance to get this done. So let's survive for another day. So what coaching is all about. That's why you get paid the big bucks to pour the right strings at the right time.

Speaker 13456.78s - 3468.32s

The biggest shocker of the playoffs happened in Boston GPE the other night as the heat stunned the Celtics ORG, knocking down threes from all over the court. We'll chat about that. When we come back, continue to break down the Eastern Conference ORG playoffs,

Speaker 53468.38s - 3503.46s

and we return in the zone. We're back 918 on a Saturday morning, Tucker and Seneca with you until 11 o'clock this morning.

Speaker 43503.96s - 3509.04s

Get the extra hour, taking you right up to NFL ORG draft coverage on the fan.

Speaker 13509.28s - 3568.8s

The Vikings will pick at least as it stands right now five times today. Packers have eight picks today. We'll chat NFL top of the hour. As I said, we're with you until 11. We'll get back to the wolves before we are done as well. We're talking the other NBA playoff series. We just talked Bucks Pacers ORG.The Celtics and Heat will head down to South Beach for game three, five o'clock today. I pretty much everybody assumed without Jimmy Butler, despite the Heat ORG's pedigree and Eric Spolstra's pedigree in the postseason, What we've seen them do, reaching the finals last year. Without Jimmy Butler, nobody gave Miami GPE outside of Miami a chance to beat the Celtics ORG, the very least even win a game.I mean, I think prevailing wisdom was the Celtics ORG are going to sweep the heat and move on to the next round. Not so fast, my friend. What a game two for the Miami Heat ORG, double T. They were in the zone, I guess, is the best way to put it.

Speaker 73569.4s - 3581.86s

They were knocking down threes from all over the court. It was an amazing performance by the heat. 23-3s made in 43 attempts. I can't do the math in my head, but I know it's over 50%.

Speaker 13581.86s - 3600.02s

I know that they trailed by 34 points in game one. It was not a game. And now they're the first playoff team in 30 years to win a game by doubledigits when they're an underdog of 14 points or more.

Speaker 23600.18s - 3602.42s

They were 15 point underdogs in game two.

Speaker 13603.14s - 3610.78s

And Tyler Hero was the hero for the Miami Heat ORG in that game. I'm surprised for you to see them go into underdogs in game two. And Tyler Hero was the hero for the Miami Heat in that game. I'm surprised for you to see them go into Boston and take game two. We're very surprised.

Speaker 73610.94s - 3634.66s

But we've seen this from the Boston Celtics over the last few years where it seems like that at some point in time throughout the playoffs, they'll fall asleep and lose a game like this. And they would find a way to rebound. I don't think the Miami Heat without Jimmy Butler PERSON would have enough to win four games against the Boston Celtics ORG. So I predicted that the Celtics ORG will get themselves togetherand move on to round number two.

Speaker 13634.76s - 3638.66s

No, I do too. I'd love to see Miami GPE scare him a little bit, though.

Speaker 73638.96s - 3642.36s

Like maybe win this game three and take an actual two-one lead.

Speaker 13643.1s - 3671.52s

And now you wonder, where is that leadership in Boston GPE? Like is Jason Tatum ready to seize that moment and become playoff Jason, which we haven't necessarily seen consistently from him? That might be the one knock on him. And there's certainly the overwhelming favorites to get to the finals to play the Denver Nuggets. They've been the best team in basketball all season. But yeah, you see a game like this and you just say, all right, they tripped up, but it's at home, you know. Let me say this has happened before.

Speaker 73671.6s - 3700.62s

I mean, Jalen Brown, you know, they rely on the one-on-one or the three-point shot too much. And what has hurt the boss and Celsius PRODUCT, I believe, over the last few years, with all that perimeter power that they possess, they don't have an inside game. They don't have an inside game to balance off what they do well on the outside. And when they slip up and those outside shots are not going in,they fall very quickly.

Speaker 13701.32s - 3713.9s

Yeah, it'll be interesting if they do end up playing Denver in the finals, which we're not going to predict because who thinks Denver ORG's getting to the finals? I don't.They get the wolves in their way. But how they do match up with Yokic PERSON. You know, they traded away Robert Williams PERSON.

Speaker 73713.9s - 3715.14s

Nobody matches that well with him.

Speaker 13715.26s - 3728.62s

Understood. But by trading away Robert Williams before the season, that was their one, you know, defensive post guy that at least could get four or five fouls on him, make him work for things. Porzingis PERSON is not.

Speaker 73728.76s - 3756.52s

Nobody, I mean, he's just, you know, nobody can guard Yolkich PERSON. You can't. He's unguarable. But you can't attack him when he's on the defensive end because he's, you know, he's not a great defender. But offensively, skill-wise, knowledgeable-wise,understanding what needs to be done in certain moments, he might be the best in the game of doing that right now.

Speaker 13756.68s - 3822.08s

Well, I think he is. You think he's about to win another MVP WORK_OF_ART. And, you know, that series open. We'll switch to that series since you brought Yolka-chup PERSON. You know, much was made of the fact that they swept the Lakers last year. They've beaten them eight straight times. But I don't think anybody really believed that would happen. At least I didn't believe it would happen this year. The way the Lakers ORG were starting to come together, how much better they played in the second half of the year, how the team was built this year with some actual depth. You know, you got Austin Reeves and Rui Hachamura and, you know, Gabe Vincent PERSON comes in.And you think, you know, they've at least tried to build around their two superstars without much salary. And it was working. They were really coming into their own and playing really solid basketball. We were saying, I don't really want the wolves to play the Lakers ORG. I mean, that's not an ideal matchup playing LeBron PERSON and AD. So what is it about that matchup with Denver that the Lakers ORG just cannot find their footing?I mean, they really haven't been that competitive. I mean, there have been a couple closer games for a lot of the game.

Speaker 73822.28s - 3824.78s

They've led every game by a couple digits.

Speaker 13824.98s - 3829.28s

They can't finish. They can't play for 48 minutes. What is it about that match?

Speaker 73829.28s - 3905.98s

Well, you know, Yolkes for one is that when he decides that he's going to get his team back in the game, he takes the ball. It takes the ball into the paint. And secondly, LeBron James PERSON at this stage of his career doesn't have the energy to close out basketball games. It just doesn't have it anymore. He's going to get his 20 points and he's going to look good on the stat sheet. But he just doesn't have the energy to take over and control the game and play 45 plus minutesand get you 35 to 40 points in that. Anthony Davis does it well for three quarters. It seems like he gets in Fowlerot because Yolke PERSON's just a lot to deal with. Denver's most important player is Aaron Gordon. And he went for 29 and 15 in game three.Yeah, and what I mean by the most important player is that he's the guy that's going to get offensive rebounds, he's going to give his team second chances. Now he's a reliable three-point shooter. He's a good defender. He works the glass down low.He can, you know, he can defend two or three positions. So to me, if Denver somehow or some way finds a way to make another run, the consistent player, Aaron Gordon, would get them there.

Speaker 13906.12s - 3919.36s

Yeah, you know the pick and roll with Yolkidjan PERSON, Jamal Murray PERSON is flawless, and that's what every team would love to have. But when those other guys, like Michael Porter and Aaron Gordon... Michael Porter Jr. PERSON is making his jump shot? Yeah, they're almost unstoppable.

Speaker 73919.48s - 3926.34s

See, and... I have a plan for the wolves if they face the Denver Nuggets ORG, if they get to the second Ryan PERSON. We can save that for one.

Speaker 13926.34s - 3927.74s

We'll get to that a bit later.

Speaker 73927.86s - 3931.72s

I'm anxious to hear that. Quickly on just a few.

Speaker 13932.02s - 3965.6s

Delo O for 7 in game three. Delo very familiarly uninterested. Didn't join the team in the huddle at one point during a timeout. It looked like he was looking at his phone. I don't know if it was his phone or what it was, but he was disinterested and off by his own. And I'm sure Wolf ORG's fans who were watching smiled,if not shuffled, and said, yep, that's D.O. in the playoffs. He's just an absolute enigma. You know, one night, he'll score 28 and knock down threes from all over the court. But then the next three nights, he's a no-show, especially in the postseason.

Speaker 73965.6s - 3966.64s

He was in college. Yeah.

Speaker 13967.34s - 3967.94s

We were in college.

Speaker 73968.1s - 3976.58s

I saw him play two years in college basketball, and I saw he have one really good game, and unfortunately, that good game was against the gophers. Yeah.

Speaker 13977.22s - 3979.22s

Like 30 in the first half or something, didn't you?

Speaker 73979.82s - 3987.02s

But, you know, he's just, like the other night, they tried to make a comeback.

Speaker 13988.06s - 3989.24s

They're making some ground.

Speaker 73990.8s - 3993.16s

You got a little push, got the crowd back into the game.

Speaker 13993.72s - 3995.32s

He's not shooting the ball well.

Speaker 73996.36s - 3999.4s

He comes down and takes a quick three-point shot out of nowhere.

Speaker 14000.04s - 4001.74s

That's just bad basketball.

Speaker 74003.26s - 4007.22s

That's just the guy either he doesn't understand or he doesn't care.

Speaker 14007.82s - 4010.88s

And one guy said there are two kinds of people in this world.

Speaker 74012.08s - 4016.6s

The one to care and others who care less. And right now it seems like he could care less.

Speaker 14017.06s - 4043.52s

Yeah, the Lakers ORG are in a tough spot. You know, they know the window's closing. LeBron's got a player option for next year. Most believe he's going to rip that up, sign the last two-year deal with the Lakers ORG. And maybe they'll sign his son or draft his son in the second round to make him happy. But, I mean, is the window closed for this Lakers ORG team? I mean, do you see them with these young ascending teams like the wolves and the thunder and obviously the Nuggets ORG? Do the Lakers ORG have a chance?

Speaker 74043.52s - 4113.1s

They can't beat the Nuggets if one because the inside game is so strong with Yokic PERSON. But what LeBron James PERSON used to be able to do. He can no longer do that for a playoff series if he doesn't have help from his teammates. And with DeAnda Russell PERSON going, Oaf PERSON or whatever he's going for,you know, that's a bad sign for the Lakers ORG. But the Denver Nuggets ORG are just a bad matchup for them. Just a bad matchup for them. And unfortunately for the Lakers ORG, you know, they fell into spot number, what, in seven? Yep.And the world's loss of the Phoenix Suns ORG. And here comes to Denver Nuggets but up by 20 you knew at some point in time with Jamal Murray PERSON not scoring well not playing well in game number twobut they have that reliable guy night in the night out that can get the job done down by 20 he can find a way to get his team into the game to allow his other players now to be in a position where one or two plays by them can make a difference. And that's what having a superstar is all about.

Speaker 14113.96s - 4183s

Lakers season may end tonight, game four in L.A. tonight, the Nuggets have a chance to sweep them away at 7.30, the final game of today's slate in the NBA ORG playoffs. We'll pause here. We'll come back. We've got a few more series to check out. We'll return to the Wolves ORG' conversation as well, and plenty of NFL talk before we are done at 11 in the zone on the fair. We're back 934 on a Saturday morning.Tucker and Sineken in the zone the morning after. The Wolves took a three-love lead on the Phoenix Suns ORG. One went away from a date likely with the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference ORG semifinals. About an hour from now, our final segment, we will dive into what that series might look like and get Trent's thoughts on the potential matchup for the second straight year with the Denver Nuggets ORG.

Speaker 74183.12s - 4189.26s

I like what you said. We said the morning afternoon, that's a song by Frankie Beverly Amaze PERSON. Is it? Yeah. It's morning after.

Speaker 14189.62s - 4211s

There's another song called The Morning After WORK_OF_ART that's not one of my favorites, but yeah, that's a popular title. We're talking about the other NBA ORG playoff series. I would like to head to the phone lines, though, because we have a caller wants to chat some wolves, and Keith from Elk River GPE has been holding for a bit.Keith, good morning. You're in the zone. What's on your mind?

Speaker 64212.74s - 4215.62s

Isn't this fun going into Maine GPE? We're still talking about the wolves on a positive run.

Speaker 14216.34s - 4216.4s

It sure is.

Speaker 64217.22s - 4217.76s

I can get used to that.

Speaker 14218.46s - 4218.84s

Yeah, it's great.

Speaker 64223.2s - 4223.54s

But you guys need to give the people what they want and bring back wolves after dark.

Speaker 14230.88s - 4253.9s

When are we going to get to hear you guys after the games again uh well um max fuller and rosy have been uh given the assignment they did a program following i think games one and game two uh from the cage at target center so look we're we're more than willing but there are a lot of uh talented uh and excited guys here that work at the station, and so they've given the keys to Max PERSON, and he's done a great job. So we're there if needed, but I appreciate it.

Speaker 64255.52s - 4291.26s

Yeah, Mark Rosen, Trent Tucker PERSON. Let's weigh that, huh? I think we take Trent PERSON. Uh-oh. I'm calling the talk about what no one just talked about yet, and that's the play of what the scrubs meeting of this team, you know, the bench players. They're not getting enough credit for what they do. You know, they mop up the games and stuff, but these are the guys that are going against the starters during practice and giving them their all and letting them do what they do. And, you know, the enthusiasm on the bench after big shots, and they're all in this game, and it's fun to watch them. But just the play that they're doing to keep these guys at their top level, what do you think about that?

Speaker 14291.66s - 4330.66s

Interesting angle. I appreciate the call, Keith PERSON. I don't know that they'd love to be called Scrubs necessarily, but I'm assuming he's talking about, like, the youngsters, the Deshaun Nix, Wendell Moore, Leonard Miller, Luca Garza PERSON, the guys that are waving the towels and jumping up, but are certainly not going to see rotational playoff action. Look, it's a 15-man roster. Everybody counts, and he's right. We don't watch practice. They don't practice a ton, but they do this time a year when you've got some time between games, and all kind of elements go into a playoff run even the 10th to 15th men have their place even if they're not going to see a lot

Speaker 74330.66s - 4404.8s

of court time right yeah and sometimes when you have guys who may not play a lot you know they can see certain things on the floor and may be able to point out some things put on some things here or there that you can that you can change or do differently you know there are times when you know I play behind either Michael Jordan PERSON or playing behindGerald Wilkins PERSON or whomever may be you know you might say hey you know you're you're leaning a little bit on your jump shot you're not coming and going straight up and so there are certain things that they might beable to point out here or there. You know, but at practice, that's, it's a 12 or 15 guy unit. And it's a team. And whatever your role is on the team, we ask you to do that and try to do it very, very well. And that's the, you know, that's the beauty of a group of guys coming together to support one another. And like you mentioned at the start of the broadcast, that is unusual, especially at the highest level, to have other people rooting for other guys' success. And that's what the wolves have gone for themselves right now. And it's fun to watch.

Speaker 14404.8s - 4407.84s

I was a little surprised that Finchie didn't empty the bench last night.

Speaker 74408.22s - 4413.78s

No. I never got overly comfortable, but in the final minute or so. No, no. I mean,

Speaker 14413.82s - 4415.64s

Ann hadn't sat down the entire second half.

Speaker 74415.9s - 4419.58s

There's another game to be played in 48 hours. He can rest today. I suppose.

Speaker 14419.78s - 4421.48s

Okay. We know. I'm going to practice hard.

Speaker 74421.86s - 4422.64s

Can't take no chances.

Speaker 14423.82s - 4426.26s

I saw the Knicks win a basketball game in eight seconds.

Speaker 74427.16s - 4427.78s

Yes, you did.

Speaker 14427.94s - 4429.34s

It can happen quickly, can't it?

Speaker 74429.34s - 4431.8s

I saw Reggie Miller win a basketball game in eight seconds.

Speaker 24432.58s - 4434.86s

All of a sudden, you put some bottom on the floor of a minute of 50.

Speaker 74434.96s - 4456s

They down to a turn and ballroom four times in four threes. It's a tie ball game. And you can never get back in the game. So at this time of year, I know that you may want to take some of your best players, what we may presume is in harm's way.But if we let a game slip away that we had total control of, we may never recover

Speaker 14456s - 4465.04s

from that. It's a good point. And even if they hadn't lost the game, but if Phoenix ORG goes on a flurry at the end and makes some threes against the bottom five.

Speaker 74466.58s - 4491.8s

I've got to rush you back in the game. Or you've just given them a little momentum heading into game, even though they're down 3-0. You give them a little hope, a little momentum, and allowing that whole mindset to change instead of just, as I said, taking their soul. That's why you want to finish off the games the right way. Yeah. And a guy like Eric Gordon, in game two, he was able to see some shots go in, even though his team was blown out. And they helped him for game number three because he made some shots last night.

Speaker 24492.04s - 4496.12s

So he's looking for any sense of hope.

Speaker 74496.32s - 4499.16s

He had 10 on the first quarter. He can find to help his team out.

Speaker 04499.34s - 4505.42s

I mean, I can bark back on my career when I played for the Bulls in game five.

Speaker 74505.52s - 4567.26s

We lost in game five of the NBA Finals to the Phoenix Suns ORG. And that night, Phil PERSON didn't play the bench much because he was trying to close it out. And he felt like that playing his starters longer would get the job done and they would win and we would win after a championship in a row. But we lost. So he emptied the bench. So he put us in the game at the end with no chance to come back. But being a veteran, I said, this is not garbage time. This is the time now for me to get myself prepared for game number six. I need to make these last couple shots if I get a few more shots to end the game so I can have that as more shots to end the game. So I can have that as a confidence builder going into game number six if I'm asked to go into the game and knock down some open shots. And it worked out mentally well for me because I saw the ball go in the basket. And then in game number six, I get four shots. I go four for four. But the confidence came from game five even though we lost.

Speaker 14567.34s - 4570.78s

Yeah, selfishly, I was in the crowd that night. I would like to have seen the celebration.

Speaker 74571.42s - 4573.1s

You're in my family as well.

Speaker 14573.16s - 4596.04s

Yeah. I was also fortunate enough to be in the crowd the year before. When the Bulls won at home, the only time in their first three were they won the championship in Chicago. The first and the third were one on the road. So that was the only time in their first three where they won the championship in Chicago. The first and the third were one on the road. So that was the only time in my three years in Chicago and lucky enough to go to all those gameswhere you saw the championship happen, you know, in that arena, which was just bonkers.

Speaker 74596.22s - 4597.66s

Yeah, we didn't want to go back to Phoenix ORG.

Speaker 14597.66s - 4597.94s

No.

Speaker 74597.94s - 4613.88s

And all of a sudden now they, the home court has shifted back to them. And they were the best team record-wise in the entire league with some very talented players, but somehow some way, you know, we were able to score the last five points in the last 41 seconds.

Speaker 14613.96s - 4615.12s

Could it let Charles PERSON get his right.

Speaker 74615.46s - 4615.74s

No.

Speaker 14615.74s - 4615.76s

No.

Speaker 74615.98s - 4619.78s

I mean, you know, and for some of us, it was going to be our last go-around.

Speaker 14621.04s - 4668.7s

For sure. All right, let's get back to the other series we haven't touched on. The game that preceded the wolves last night was Clippers Mavs ORG. The Clippers had stolen, or had, sorry, the Mavs ORG had stolen home court advantage by taking one of the two games. They're back home, one, one. And, you know, unfortunately for the Clippers, and we've talked about it all season. They were hyped up as NBA ORG contenders. A lot of the big talking heads nationally believed in the clippers all season long. And I was of the camp. Let's just see if they're whole. I just don't trust George and Kauai to be 100% because they never are.And unfortunately for Kauai PERSON, his knee is just not allowing him to play. The inflammation has flared up. He was a shell of himself last night. Wasn't running down court on defense. I mean, just not what you expect from Kauai PERSON.

Speaker 24669.3s - 4670.96s

And they should have.

Speaker 14671.12s - 4672.76s

He took seven shots all night.

Speaker 24672.82s - 4676.84s

He had nine points. But, I mean, I watched highlights afterwards again after the Wolves ORG game.

Speaker 14676.84s - 4683.1s

And once again, just to see Kauai PERSON trailing while the team's running down the court, he just can't get up and down the court.

Speaker 74683.24s - 4735.04s

Just take him out. Just sit him out. If he can't play, he's done. Because game one, Paul George PERSON, was his start. You bring back Kowah Lennan, who's not 100% in game number two. So now you are forcing your team to go through him offensivelywhen he's not 100% physically to get it done. So that takes away from the aggression of a guy like a Paul George PERSON. And Tyler just made the decision. If Coahuah Leonard PERSON is not able to play physically, just sit him down and say, you know what? Hopefully that if we get to the second round and he's going to be healthy enough to help us at this stage. But right now, we can't play basketballand expect to beat the Dallas Mavericks with Kawhi Leonard PERSON being on the floor and not able to perform physically at the level that we need him to play at. It's not going to happen.

Speaker 14735.24s - 4738.16s

Yeah, and they cannot beat Dallas without a healthy Kawhi Leiter PERSON.

Speaker 74738.26s - 4760.82s

They can beat Dallas ORG without... You think so? Without Kawhi Laughan PERSON. Yeah, we saw it in game one. Because now Paul George PERSON becomes the focal point offensively. The Dallas Mavericks have to defend them with the team that is hold. With Kaua Lillner PERSON laboring up the floor and you're trying to get their ball to him, the L.A. Clippers can't function that way.

Speaker 14760.88s - 4764.52s

Well, my point is you can win once. I don't think you're going to beat Dallas four times without Kauai PERSON.

Speaker 74764.56s - 4774.12s

I really don't. Look at Dallas's team. They, my point is you can win once. I don't think you're going to beat Dallas four times without Kauai PERSON. I really don't. Look at Dallas ORG's team. They got Luca PERSON who's struggling. Struggling. He's got 37 points. He's 7 for 21.

Speaker 14774.32s - 4775.88s

Yeah, he's not shooting the ball. Right. He's not shooting well.

Speaker 74775.9s - 4778.06s

He's struggling. And Karee PERSON didn't do much

Speaker 14778.06s - 4780.5s

last night either. Right. But it shows

Speaker 74780.5s - 4781.98s

though that they've built a really nice

Speaker 14781.98s - 4783.74s

complimentary team around those guys.

Speaker 74783.74s - 4787.34s

But the clippers are standing around hoping that Coisle Leonard PERSON can play.

Speaker 14787.86s - 4788.82s

So it's a dip.

Speaker 74789.54s - 4808.1s

From game one to games two and three, their minds are on how their play is different. Paul George PERSON is just standing around them. He's just watching. He's not engaged. They can beat the Dallas Mavericks ORG, but they can't beat the Dallas Mavericks if they have a hurt koala on the floor because the clippers can't function.

Speaker 14808.6s - 4836.2s

The top seat is the thunder. They've looked every bit apart so far, taking out the Pelicans with ease, the first two games. They'll resume their series at 2.30 this afternoon, they beat the Pelicans by, what, 32 points in game 2. Chet Holgren had an amazing game in game 2, 26 points, including 15 in the first quarter. Dort is their stopper defensively. He has really bothered Brandon Ingram and without Zion.

Speaker 74836.5s - 4836.94s

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 14837.14s - 4841.44s

You know, we know that the pelicans are limited. They don't have, you know, their best player.

Speaker 74841.44s - 4842.12s

They almost go game one.

Speaker 14842.3s - 4842.96s

They really did.

Speaker 74843.06s - 4844.68s

They had their chance in game one.

Speaker 14844.86s - 4851.8s

You figured that was their best chance against a young team that's, you know, their best player. They almost go game one. They really did. They had their chance in game one. You figured that was their best chance against a young team that's, you know, an unexpected number one seed.

Speaker 74851.88s - 4854.12s

What do you see how to go to New Orleans GPE and perform?

Speaker 14854.28s - 4855.32s

Yeah, it'll be interesting today.

Speaker 74855.32s - 4855.4s

Yeah.

Speaker 14855.6s - 4868.64s

It'll be interesting today. But number one seeds that go up 20 are 54 and 1 in the NBA ORG. The only team that lost was the Denver Nuggets ORG. What year was that? The 90s, I think.

Speaker 74868.84s - 4869.36s

It's been a while.

Speaker 14869.56s - 4886.38s

But you're up 2-0 as a 1-seed. You're likely to get things done. Two more series to get too quickly. In the East, the Cavaliers lead the Magic 2-1. The home team has won every game in this series. Cavs won the first two games easily.Magic come home and they destroy the Cavaliers ORG.

Speaker 24886.56s - 4899.24s

Wow. I believe that. Big, big performance at home. Jalen Suggs PERSON got hurt. I think he came back in, but it looked bad when he went out. I felt really bad for him. But he did come back in. He's had a terrific season.

Speaker 14901.78s - 4932.72s

You know, Cleveland GPE, you look at their parts, they've got a lot of talent on that team. And should they advance to play Boston GPE, you know, obviously Boston will be heavily favored. But they've got enough players. You've harped on Donovan Mitchell for years about his lack of a playoff acumen. And he has to prove that. But, man, you look at Garland and Jared Allen and Mowgli PERSON.They've got some talent there. But, you know what? This series, it might be one of those series where the home team wins every game because Orlando looked dominant in game three.

Speaker 74932.72s - 4959.88s

Well, yeah, and Donald McIntyre PERSON is, you know, he is the key. I mean, when Utah was so good when they had Mike Connolly Jr. PERSON and Rudy Gobert and throughout the regular season, you know, Donaldovan Mitchell PERSON was the guy that carried them offensively, but come playoff time, you know, he was not the player that we saw during the regular season. And, you know, J.B. Bickerstaff PERSON and the Cleveland Cavaliers are hoping that that guy in Utah GPE playoff time

Speaker 14959.88s - 4969.64s

doesn't show up here in Cleveland GPE come playoff time. Exactly right. Exactly right. All right. The other series in the East LOC is the one that I was probably most excited to watch. Nick Sixers PERSON.

Speaker 44971.54s - 4974.04s

A lot of storylines going on in this series.

Speaker 14974.16s - 5024.86s

It's 2-1. The Knicks have the 2-1 lead. Mbid scored 50 in the most recent game. Again, the home team winning these games so far. I thought of you, though, watching this game because M.B. PERSON did most of his damage from outside the paint. He was 10 for 13 shooting from outside the paint. He was knocking down threes. I know that drives you crazy. We've talked about, you know, he's banged up. He's nowhere near 100% and still managed to put up 50 points. I didn't like the kind of ankle pull he pulled on Mitchell Robinson PERSON. I thought that was almost ejection worthy. I don't know if you saw it. I saw it, yeah. I don't get your thoughts on that. The chippiest. Yeah, there's no room in the game for that. I hate it. He's too great a player to do stuff like that. But give me your thoughts on what you've seen so far from this series.

Speaker 75026.32s - 5033.28s

Well, the 76th should be up three games to zero. Wow. Because they clearly have the best player on the floor.

Speaker 15033.46s - 5035.96s

Yes. And against the Knicks ORG in the first

Speaker 75035.96s - 5124.94s

two games, where was he at? Missing outside shots. He just made him in game three. And if he decides to go inside, who's going to guard him?Nobody. We saw him do this a year ago, against the Boston Celtics ORG. With a chance to close out, game number six on his home floor, where was he at?Yeah, for a couple of games, he shot the ball well from the outside, but for a play-all series, when your best player, your best big man is outside shooting shots, when those shots don't fall, your team is going to lose. He should be the most dominating player in basketball. Skill. Well, he was the first half of this season. And he could avoid someof these injuries if he stays closer to the basketball because a lot of the moves that he's trying to make sometime when he gets hurt, he's making moves from 20 feet. And lower guys around his ankles and his feet and all those types of things, he trips over people, he falls down, he gets banged up. You know, just, he's a wonderful talent. And it's for me, you know, as an old school basketball guy who played with a lot of great inside players, you know, MBs should clearly dominate the league and be the leading vote getter every year for the MVP in the league. It's because I don't see anyone in the league should be able to stop him if he decided to play inside with the basketball.

Speaker 15124.94s - 5132.02s

Right. And he was on track to win the MVP in January until the injury came and cost him 30 games or so. He was the leader.

Speaker 75132.22s - 5134.12s

Think about how he's getting hurt.

Speaker 15134.92s - 5137.78s

He's falling down 28 feet from the basket.

Speaker 75138.34s - 5181.86s

He's not getting hurt in the paint. He's trying to twist and turn with that big body in small spaces. And all of a sudden he gets tripped by someone that's four or five or six inches shorter than him then he falls down Baines PERSON's an ankle Baines's knee and they fall in the back of his Achilles. He's following his ankles and he's out of the game. You know, when you look at all the big guys in the past How many times did you see those big guys on the sideline with injuries? Not a lot. No. It's because they were playing basketball where they should be playing basketball in their space. I'm not saying that he can't step outside and make outside shots, but a lot of his injuries are comingis because he's playing a way too far from the basket.

Speaker 15182.5s - 5188.8s

And as you say, he's so dominant down low. And like Kat PERSON, you know, you put him on the line, he's going to make all his free throws too. It's easy. Yeah, the basket. And as you say, he's so dominant down low. And like Kat PERSON, you know, you put him on the line, he's going to make all his free throws too. It's easy.

Speaker 75189.1s - 5190.7s

Yeah, it does. And played 20 years.

Speaker 15191.2s - 5248s

One sneaky move that Nick Nurse made in the series in game three was to give campaign some minutes, the backup point guard, who had 11 points and I think three rebounds and two assists and just was active and gave them a different feel, some steadiness. And it got me thinking, you know, where it was campaign early in the season. He was on the Phoenix Sons before, I think Milwaukee GPE grabbed him for a while. And I remember when Phoenix ORG decided to let him go.We talked about that. Like, well, he was like the one point guard on Phoenix ORG's roster. Now, maybe he wasn't a starter, but he was a guy that could at least control the tempo and run your offense. And, you know, as you've talked about all season with Phoenix ORG, they don't have that. And I just wondered again, watching campaign do his thing for Philly ORG,how different would Philly ORG look if they could throw him on the court just to run the offense from time to time? Give him 50 to 20 minutes. Give them a look that they don't present, a floor general, because he made a big difference for Philly in game three. Well, he can speed

Speaker 75248s - 5264.04s

the game up, for one. And as you mentioned, he can knock down the open shot when he's there. He can make plays in transition, but also now he frees up you know, Maxie PERSON fromcontrolling the basketball and trying to run the offense every single time now. He allows

Speaker 25264.04s - 5265.48s

Maxie PERSON now to have the luxury to go down the floor and trying to run the offense every single time now. He allows max it now to have

Speaker 75265.48s - 5357.42s

the luxury to go down the floor and find his spots within the offense where he can catch and shoot or catch and drive. He doesn't have to bring the basketball up the floor of 94 feet under pressure. When campaign was in Phoenix ORG when he made the run toward the NBA the NBA finals against the Milwaukee Bucks ORG. When Chris Paul struggled to get the ball up the floor and Phoenix ORG needed to speed the game up, they went to him. He's a guy that can get the ball up the floor and four or five or six seconds. It allows you now to have more time on the shot clock to run your offense. It's hard for Devin PERSON your offense. It's hard for Devin Booker PERSON. It's hard for Bradley Bill PERSON. It's hard for Kevin Durant PERSON because they have to run the offense, dribble the basketball of 94 feet, Trottie Guard PERSON, Anthony Edwards, or Carl Anthony Towns and every shot they are taken. It's a one-on-one with multiple dribblestrying to find space to create a shot that wears you down. That's why it's so important to have a point guard. And you've been around basketball a long time, just like I have. And you look at all of the NBA ORG champions. They have had someone that could control their point guard position. We had it in Chicago with Scotty Pippen. The Lakers had it with Magic Johnson PERSON.The Bistler had with Isaiah Thomas PERSON. The San Antonio Spurs had it with Tony Parker PERSON. The 76th head with Marri PERSON's cheeks.

Speaker 25357.98s - 5364.58s

Pistons in Isaiah. Right. So if you look at all of the champions, they have a point guard.

Speaker 75364.72s - 5381.42s

LeBron James with the point guard in Miami or Cleveland GPE. They had Kyrie Irving, Steph Curry PERSON. When you build a team like the Phoenix Suns ORG have built their team, you're going to struggle at this time of year because you don't have a point guard that can take the pressure off your shooters. No doubt.

Speaker 15381.72s - 5384.38s

Well, so it's 10 o'clock. Normally we're saying goodbye at this point.

Speaker 75384.38s - 5456.86s

That's true. We got another hour. Not today. We have another hour. We'll step away from the NBA next segment and dive into the NFL ORG draft. What we've seen over the last two nights, your Vikings have moved in a bold new direction. What an exciting night for Purple Nation Thursday night. We'll talk NFL draft. The first two nights, day three. We'll start about an hour from now. NFL draft coverage on the fan follows us at 11 o'clock. We'll talk about what the Vikes did, the PAC ORG did, some of the big storylines of the first two nights of the draft. Before we come back and talk Wolf's Sons ORG and a potential Wolves Nugget series before we are done at 11 o'clock. We're back right after these. Man. 10-01 on a Saturday morning, and you are still in the zone on the fan,

Speaker 15456.98s - 5590.66s

Trent Tucker, Dave Seneca, Brett Blakemore, bonus coverage today with one hour before the NFL draft resumes for rounds four through seven. And you'll hear all the coverage here on the fan beginning at 11 o'clock. So we'll take you up until that point where 157 players will have their names called today. Lots of opportunities to make your team better. You know, you go further than a dude a few days ago who became the highest paid wide receiver in NFL history, Amun Rass Saint-Brown, who was a fourth round pick.He was picked on Saturday of the draft. And us Packer fans will, of course, remember that Green Bay traded up in the third round to get their wide receiver, Amari Rogers PERSON, who now plays, I think, in the U.S.L, never made it as an NFL ORG player. They could have stayed right where they were, taking Amon-Rass St. Brown PERSON, whose brother was already on the Packers, Equanimia, St. Brown PERSON, and who knows how things might be different. So Saturdays are huge to build your team, and for a Vikings ORG team that had no picks last night and watched a lot of great players get added to other teams, they'll have a chance to add to what they did on Thursday night. Let's start there, double T. It was an epic night, historic night for the Vikes ORG. US Bank Stadium FAC was insane. Rocking. I can't imagine the fun. And just the whole trepidation, just the whole way, I mean, imagine, I know all you Vikings ORG fans have been so nervous about what's going to happen. We've got to get a quarterback. Is there a chance they trade all this stuff to get up to number three and get Drake May? Well, they have to do the same thing to get J.J. McCarthy. Will the Giants ORG takehim at six? Will the Broncos ORG leapfrog us? I mean, what's going to happen? And it was the, you know, we talk about worst case scenario, which was on last night on the fan. It was the best case scenario for the purple that they could sit right where they were while they moved up to 10, you know, moved up one spot and gave up limited stuff just to make sure that they got the guy they wanted, which was J.J. McCarthy PERSON,and then we'll talk about the move up for Dallas Turner. But just as a, well, you're not a lifelong Vikings fan. I mean, which was J.J. McCarthy, and then we'll talk about the move up for Dallas Turner, but just as a well, you're not a lifelong Vikings ORG fan. I mean, I text you. But you, yeah, you did.

Speaker 75591.1s - 5593.56s

Hey, I understand you texted me, but he didn't tell the world.

Speaker 15593.68s - 5594.72s

Well, yeah, you know.

Speaker 75594.84s - 5596.64s

Tell the world. How are you feeling on Thursday night?

Speaker 15596.64s - 5597.58s

I like what the Vikes ORG did.

Speaker 75597.82s - 5599.84s

Because you were very adamant

Speaker 15599.84s - 5711.66s

that you wanted nothing to do with giving up next year's number one pick to secure the quarterback. You want to just, you know what? That's too important. And I'm thinking, if you get your guy and for the next 10 years he's your guy, you're going to long forget what you had to give up to get them, right? I mean, if you get it right. And we don't know if the Vikes ORG got it right. No one will know for a few years if McCarthy PERSON is going to be a guy that can lead this team into the postseason. But they believe it. And now Vikings ORG fans believe it. And as virtually every NFL analyst in the Western Hemisphere LOC has said, the sixquarterbacks who all got drafted in the first 12 picks, which is unbelievable, they probably all would have said, if I could go anywhere right now, it's probably Minnesota. And I know J.J. McCarthy PERSON said something to that effect. Like, well, they all talk together. You know, they've been in workouts together, the combat and stuff. You know, hey, where do you want to go?Where do you want to go? Well, I want to go to the team that's got J.J. and Addison and Hockinson and Aaron Jones PERSON and good tackles. Every team in place. And a coach that knows how to develop quarterback. So for J.J. McCarthy PERSON, who was a hockey, a former hockey player and a hockey nut. I like that for sure.A Midwest guy to come to Minneapolis GPE and play with these guys around him. To the state of hockey, right? That's what you call it. I understand that. He's got to be over the moon, right? I mean, to come to this organization, to be a top 10 pick. We all know the question marks. He wasn't asked to lead his team with his arm because they didn't need to. So nobody really knows. He doesn't have the production that all the other guys had. He's only 21. I don't know how you can't be excited because you've got a guy now that you really believe could be your guy for 10 years. And unless you remember, Fran Tarkinson PERSON, it's been a long time since you can say that.I know Christian Ponder PERSON and there have been guys drafted, but there hasn't been the kind of excitement and belief that you might have gotten it right like there is right now for the purpose.

Speaker 75711.78s - 5742.9s

Yeah, that's true. I mean, you guys are a national champion. He's a winner. But when you are a high draft pick, more times than not, you're going to go to a bad situation. Right. And he's very fortunate, you know, that he's a high draft pick that's going to a good situationwhere a team is intact, coaching staff understands how to develop young quarterbacks, and they have talent that can win. And that is, as you said, the best case scenario for any young quarterback coming into the league.

Speaker 15742.9s - 5811.16s

I heard Kevin O'Connell with a bump on Friday speaking sort of to that saying, you know, a lot of times we, meaning coaches and organizations, fail young quarterbacks, you know, because we don't set them up for success. And we could go on for the next hour and talk about first round quarterbacks who did not succeed. And maybe part of it was they just weren't good enough. But a lot of it is you go to a bad team. You go to a bad team that doesn't have the right coaching. It doesn't have the right players around you to set you up. It makes you start week one when you're not ready yet, maybe. You look at Drake May PERSON is going to maybe face that situation right now. He's on a team that has very little offensive talent around him. Pretty good defense, but very little talent.A young coach in Gerard Mayo PERSON making his debut as a coach on any level. I mean, he was an assistant at New England, but at this high level. So he is not set up for success. They don't have a great running game. They don't have great targets. You know, you look at it right now, which of the top six quarterbacks have the chance to flop? You know, Drake may end it right now, which are the top six quarterbacks have the chance to flop. You know, Drake PERSON may end up being the best of them, but right now he's in the worst situation.

Speaker 75811.32s - 5811.52s

Yeah.

Speaker 15811.7s - 5820.08s

I mean, if you're, if you don't have a good team around you, it's hard for any guy at a skill position to be successful.

Speaker 75820.92s - 5863.64s

And especially at the quarterback position, Why receiver position? Running back position. You need other guys around you who are all-star caliber or at that level or close to that level to give you a chance to be successful. And when you look at all of the great quarterbacks throughout the history of the national football league, they have those other guys around them. Joe Montana got Jerry Rice and John Taylor PERSON, but they got Roger Craig PERSON's a running back. They had great offense alignment. They had great tight-in. They had great defense. And so when you were talking about guys being successful, they have successful teammates around and to give them a chance to perform greatly at the highest level.

Speaker 15863.64s - 6053.6s

Yeah, and obviously, the Vikes are not the only team of the North that found their quarterback. The Bears, drafting Caleb Williams, number one, have also set him up for success as well. They brought in DeAndre Swift PERSON to be their running back. They traded for Kenan Allen PERSON, one of the best veteran receivers in football. They already have DJ Moore PERSON. And then at nine, they get my favorite player in this draft, Roma Dunzee, who I'm just sick as a Chicago bear.Because I love the kid. I've listened to him a lot. I think he's a really bright kid that understands the history of the game, his place in it. He has a chance to be a stud. But my point being, look what Caleb Williams has around him. I mean, that's as good as you could get as a rookie.I mean, JJ PERSON's in a great spot too. Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears ORG have surrounded him and they've built up the offensive line to give him a chance to walk in. And he's going to be asked obviously week one to start. I'm not sure that's the case with JJ PERSON. That'll depend on how the summer goes. There's no hurry with J.J. McCarthy starting week one. Caleb Williams will start week one. The NFC North got a whole lot more interesting on Thursday night in light of those two quarterbacks. And then, you know, I was pounding the table of hoping that, you know, Green Bay is picking 25. They've got two seconds, two thirds. I love the idea that if the defensive player that they like is starting to falla little bit, that maybe they'll go up and trade a two or trade a three, move up four or five spots and grab one of the top two cornerbacks in the draft. That was my dream scenario. And what happens? It's the vikes that do it. It's the vikes that see maybe the top pass rusher in the draft, stumbling down a bit,and they decide, yeah, we'll give up a three next year, a four next year, a couple picks. It doesn't matter. We'll move up six spots and give Brian Flores his new Deniel Hunter, a position of huge need, a guy that was not the first edge rusher drafted, though he was expected to go number eight to Atlanta ORG. We all know what Atlanta ORG did. We'll get to that. And there he is sitting there. And Quasi PERSON says, we're going to go up and get him. And I don't know if you saw the video. It's amazing. We're in the war room where Quacy is sort of strutting over to Kevin O'Connell and said, we got Turner PERSON. And KOC goes, really? Like he got what he wanted for Christmas. Like his face just lit up. You know, yes, you've mortgaged some picks next year. You've only have three picks right now.You might get a cop pick for cousins. Next year's draft is thin. Just means you don't have to go to Green Bay ORG and watch it. To add Dallas Turner to the J.J. McCarthy in your stocking on Thursday night, I mean, that night could not have gone better for Roobes at U.S. Bank Stadium FAC. For Vikings ORG fans everywhere. We don't know how these guys are going to be. They could both flop. But they are both in situations. We talk about McCarthy PERSON being set up for success. So is Dallas Turner with Brian Flores PERSON as his coach, an opportunity to step right in alongside all the defensive talent. They added in the offseason and free agency. It was a night for the purple now last night was boring they did nothing they had nothing but i think you could still kind of coast and revel in what happened Thursday night that

Speaker 76053.6s - 6088.5s

was a big night for your purple they got two of the players they were they were they were looking to grab and and that's that's very important to build your future around and as you mentioned a lot of young players who don't succeed, and it's not because they're not good enough, because they are in bad situations. And you see it all the time in whatever it's basketball, football, baseball, or hockey. And there are a lot of bad teams at a professional level, and a lot of good young players get pushed to the side is because their team is not good enough to give them a chance and the time they need to develop to become successful.

Speaker 16088.74s - 6091.96s

Yeah, and that's what it's all about, really, what it comes down to more often than not.

Speaker 76091.96s - 6114.68s

There's very few guys that come into any league where you can see that, okay, he's the best on a bad team, but he's not just the best on the bad team. He's the best player in the league on the bad team, but he's not just the best on the bad team. He's the best player in the league on the bad team. Michael Jordan PERSON was the, as a rookie, was the best players in the league on a bad team.

Speaker 26115.14s - 6117.9s

So you knew that he was going to be successful.

Speaker 76118.1s - 6124.22s

Now it was about, because of Chicago Bulls ORG, from a management standpoint, find the right

Speaker 26124.22s - 6126.94s

pieces to play with him to build for the future.

Speaker 76128.2s - 6135.8s

But, you know, McCarthy PERSON comes to a very good situation. Sam Donald was in a good situation, maybe for the first time of his career as well.

Speaker 16136.36s - 6152.7s

I know you're not going to give that up. You might be. No, in a perfect, I don't care what JJ looks like this summer. I think the perfect scenario with Sam Donald starts the season. I think letting JJ PERSON watch, don't be so impatient, excited. Let him watch. He's going to learn so much.

Speaker 76152.84s - 6154.7s

Sam Darnock was a number three or raw pick.

Speaker 16155.22s - 6155.9s

And we've said that.

Speaker 76155.98s - 6157.38s

Six years ago or five years ago.

Speaker 16157.44s - 6168.86s

But he's been in bad situations. All of a sudden, now he gets to a good situation. You never know. You don't. You don't know. And now you might have two quarterbacks that could be good for your team for the future, right?

Speaker 76169.4s - 6172.76s

There's nothing wrong with that. The Atlanta Falcons certainly believe in that. We'll chat about

Speaker 16172.76s - 6328.1s

the crazy decision they made to draft a quarterback at eight. And I'll give you my thoughts on what the Packers did in round one and what Green Bay did, adding four more players last night. One more segment on the NFL ORG draft before we finish things up with the wolves. It's in the zone. On the fan of the zone today, taking you up to the fans' coverage of the NFL ORG draft.Browns 4 through 7 at the top of the hour. I see Norto ORG across the glass getting ready. I'm sure meat sauce and others will be with him as they are with you over the next four hours. And see what players the Vikings add today. Five players.A fourth rounder, 2-6 and 2-7s Vikings add today. Five players. A fourth rounder two six and two sevens are on tap for the Vikings today. My quick thoughts on what the Packers ORG have done so they're on the clock at 25. I had mocked an offensivelinemen to the Packers ORG. They lost three linemen in this offseason. They have to get that room filled up again. And then Cooper DeGine PERSON sitting there, and that was a very popular pick-em on Packer Nation because he's versatile. They need secondary help. I thought they might go that route. But in the end, I've heard somebody say, for the Packers ORG, it was kind of like getting socks for Christmas for their first round pick. It's an offensive lineman in Jordan Morgan out of Arizona ORG.Not exciting. He was a first round, projected a first round pick. But, you know, nobody ever wants a lineman at the bottom of the round. And there's a lot of defensive talent out there. And this was a draft for the first 14 players. Drafted were offensive players. There was still a lot of talent available. But Green Bay ORG does what they do. And that's add Jordan Morgan, who will compete for the left tackle spot may end up starting at right guard. That's an open position. He's got shorter arms, which some believe he's more suited to guard. Others, Bill Belichick PERSON, I heard him talk about Morgan PERSON and say he's a tackle all day. And his arms are a half inch shorter than Brian Bulagas PERSON. SoBalaga PERSON carved out a pretty good career at tackle. The Packers go that route in the first round.

Speaker 76328.1s - 6330.4s

Is there an advantage of having short arms or a disadvantage of the way now?

Speaker 16330.6s - 6332.34s

If you're a tackle, you want longer arms.

Speaker 76332.54s - 6336.92s

Okay. You're dealing with pass rushers who also have long arms and you want the leverage.

Speaker 16337.08s - 6343.22s

Help educate us here. Yeah. Shorter arms, generally you have to be a guard because you don't have to deal with the past rushers coming off the edge.

Speaker 76343.94s - 6349.16s

So last night, Green Bay had four picks. and again, that gives you the opportunity to move up

Speaker 16349.16s - 6631.6s

and down around the clock at 41, and DeGene goes one pick before Green Bay to Philly ORG. And instantly, there's a trade, and Green Bay trades back four spots. And I think a lot of us Packer fans thought, well, they wanted DeGine PERSON, he's gone, so they traded back. Brian Gutakun PERSON said, no, the deal was made a couple picks earlier. We were set to move back. They moved down four spots. A couple more cornerbacks go. And I'm like, what are you doing trading back with all these good first-round talent cornerbacks sitting there? Well, it's because they wanted a linebacker. And they took the top off-ball linebacker in the draft. Edger and Cooper out of Texas A&M.Giving Green Bay ORG something I've wanted a long time. What the Niners ORG have. Two ultra-fast athletic linebackers that can go sideline to sideline that can handle tight ends and running backs in space. Quay Walker now gets Edgson Cooper PERSON. And when I heard Lewis Riddick say,the Packers just got the NFL ORG's next great linebacker, and I do value Lewis Riddick's PERSON opinion. You perked up, huh? I perked up. Jeff Hathley PERSON, the new defensive coordinator, has a fun toy in the middle of his defense. And then they come back in the bottom of the second round and add the second safety drafted.Javon Bullard out of Georgia ORG. You might remember him as the MVP of the national championship game in 2022. When he was a slot corner, last year they moved him to safety, and he was, according to many, the top safety on the board in this draft. Now, Minnesota's Tyler Newman was the first safety drafted last night. Congratulations to him.He goes to the New York Giants in the middle of the second round. I saw the phone call between the GM and the coach and Newman PERSON. It was great. Great spot for him. Green Bay likes the flexibility that Bullard PERSON gives. He can be a slot corner. He can play both safety spots. It allows you to disguise what's out there. But just bottom line for me as a Packer ORG fan, last year Green Bay rolled into the season with Darnell Savage and Jonathan Owens PERSON at safety. Weakport PERSON of their defense. This year, Xavier McKinney and Javon Bullard PERSON, that's just you've moved up several levels on the back end of the defense. So I was really excited about what Green Bay did in the second round. And in the third round, they drafted the third running back off the board. Marchion Lloyd out of USC ORG, who patterns his game after new Packer, Josh Jacobs PERSON. He can catch the ball. He'sI watched his YouTube highlights after the pick. He didn't watch a ton of USC football last year. He used to play in South Carolina, transferred to Southern Cal. Yeah, he's electric. He's got some DeAndre Swift PERSON to him. And sothat's a fun pick for Green Bay ORG. And then kind of head scratch the last one. Another linebacker, like Edger and Cooper, a guy named Tyron Hopper, who started at Florida ORG, finished at Missouri, projected as a fifth round pick. So it felt like a bit of a stretch to grab him at the end of the third round. But they wanted more bodies in that room. They think they can coach him up. Another speed guy. They wanted to add speed to the defense. That's what Green Bay did. So the Packers had four guys last. end of the third round, but they wanted more bodies in that room. They think they can coach him up, another speed guy. They wanted to add speed to the defense. That's what Green Bay ORG did.So the Packers had four guys last night. I'm very happy with what the defense looks like. They have eight more picks today because they moved down last night, four spots, added another fifth and a sixth. So, you know, they're going to have, what, 13 drafted rookies if they don't make some moves today. And Green Bay ORG will draft a quarterback, that I know. And they'll continue to add, I think, to the offensive line and other spots. Let's go back to the biggest shocker on Thursday night. The Atlanta Falcons select Michael Pennix Jr. at number eight. I mean, that was the moment. That was the what? are you, are you kidding me right now? What do you think Kirk Cousins PERSON did when he, he got the call apparentlyfrom the Falcons ORG while they were on the clock to let him know, by the way, we're taking Michael Pennix Jr. I've heard both sides of the argument of why it's a great decision, why it's a ridiculous decision. Do you feel strongly, strongly one way or the other? You just gave cousins $180 million and a four-year deal where he's pretty much going to be your guy for three years. You can punt after two years, but you're going to have about $40 million in dead capif you're going to turn the reins over to Michael Pennix. Where were you? What are your thoughts? Because we both like Pennix PERSON. I was excited to hear where he's going to go. I feel terrible for him. I know, like for Jordan Love PERSON, it was a great situation tosit for a few years, but he was 21 when he was drafted. Penix PERSON is 24. He's been in college for six years, and now he's got to wait a couple of years barring injury. I mean, we don't know. Maybe Kirk Sekelly doesn't heal right, and he's got to play week one, but it's just a head-scr scratching decision as far as I'm concerned.Kirk Cousins

Speaker 76631.6s - 6661.94s

should have nothing to worry about. I'm going to say this and people might think I'm crazy. I was more surprised that the Lamb of Falcons gave Kurt Cousin PERSON money they gave him. Most of them drafted Michael Pennish PERSON. The Falcons ORG said they need a quarterback to get them over the hump and give them a chance to win a championship. How many playoff games have Kurt Cousin PERSON won throughout his career? Has he won any? Did he win any? I don't remember.

Speaker 16662.34s - 6664.16s

Help me understand. It's no more than one.

Speaker 76664.32s - 6680.6s

Okay. So, why would you give a guy who's coming off a major injury, who haven't had great success throughout his career at playoff time, that kind of money? And that type of contract. That was a hair scratcher to me.

Speaker 16680.74s - 6719.7s

Well, it's... Yeah, I hear you. You know, it's a team that feels like they were a quarterback away. You know, they had a team that feels like they were a quarterback away. You know, they had terrible quarterback play, and they have invested in the skill positions like no other team. Drake London, Kyle Pitts PERSON,Vizhan Robinson, they bring in Darnel Mooney and Rondale Moore PERSON. Like, they have all the pieces. They didn't have anybody that could get people the ball. And they figured, well, maybe we're the team that can get Kirk PERSON over the hump in a really bad division where you bring Kirk Cousins PERSON and we're instantly the favoritesthe problem is what they didn't do for Kirk Cousins is bring on Dallas Turner that's what they needed was a pass rusher their defense they can score all the points they want their defense can't stop anybody

Speaker 76719.7s - 6725.08s

Kurt Cousin PERSON had all the pieces here in Minnesota yeah he did there's no question about that so my if you would Kurt Cousin had all the pieces here in Minnesota GPE.

Speaker 16725.94s - 6726.14s

Yeah, he did.

Speaker 76727.3s - 6756.32s

There's no question about that. So if you were looking at the body of work, and you're saying that I think there was a lot of people who were sitting in, and they may not have said publicly, to me to give Kurt Cousin PERSON that kind of money, especially coming off a major injury, I'm asking the Lama F Falcons ORG the same question before they drafted Michael Pinnock, Jr.What are you guys thinking here? Who else was going to give Curry Cousin four years, $180 million? Nobody else.

Speaker 16756.32s - 6778s

It was a short list, yeah, for sure. And you had the draft coming up. Why not wait? Yeah, I mean, if you, maybe they didn't have the opinion of Pennix PERSON and that sort of grew over the last 30, 60 days, but if you love Pennix PERSON, there's no way you wouldn'tget him at 8th. Like, nobody projected Michael Pennix to go in the top 10. Right. So why not just roll the dice with him and say, let's go, it's your team?

Speaker 76778s - 6812.58s

I'm trying to figure out, I mean, Kirk PERSON did a really good job for the Minnesota Vikings. But you're not just trying to get to the playoffs. You believe that we have put a team together that can go deep into the playoffs. And the one key position that is holding us back is the quarterback position. But the guy that IGS gave $180 million to has not shown me or proven to me or anybody else in the league is that he can play at that level come playoff time

Speaker 16812.58s - 6818.12s

but in his defense it wasn't Kirk Cousins that allowed Daniel Jones PERSON to look like Joe Montana

Speaker 76818.12s - 6820.46s

I'm not mad at Kirk Cousins PERSON it was the defense that

Speaker 16820.46s - 6825.44s

Kirk PERSON Cousins is a I I'm not mad at Kirk.

Speaker 76826.58s - 6827.54s

I'm happy for Kirk PERSON.

Speaker 16829.6s - 6831.82s

But when you look at what the Atlanta Falcons ORG believe they got in terms of winning

Speaker 76831.82s - 6834.28s

a Super Bowl EVENT or getting close to a Super Bowl,

Speaker 16835.66s - 6837.88s

that guy's resume does not meet that

Speaker 76837.88s - 6839.8s

criteria. Right. So some quarterbacks

Speaker 16839.8s - 6841.66s

will go down in history. It could

Speaker 76841.66s - 6843.86s

change. Now he could, you know, but Kirk Cousins

Speaker 16843.86s - 6846.12s

has no reason. What am I worried

Speaker 76846.12s - 6848.54s

about? I got 4'1.80.

Speaker 16848.72s - 6849.74s

That's what I'm going to say. Like, some

Speaker 76849.74s - 6851.74s

quarterbacks go down in history as the greatest quarterbacks,

Speaker 16851.74s - 6853.82s

like a Peyton Manning or a Tom Brady,

Speaker 76853.98s - 6855.84s

and some are going to go down in history as the greatest

Speaker 16855.84s - 6857.88s

businessman quarterbacks, and that's where Kirk Cousins

Speaker 76857.88s - 6880.66s

will reside as the goat until further. Other players weren't willing to do. I don't want the franchise tag. Curse did they give me 28 million I don't want the franchise tag. Currie said they give me $28 million? To be on the franchise tag? I'm going to walk away from that. The one thing you can never, ever say about Kurt Cousins is that he wasn't a good business guy, like you said.

Speaker 36880.78s - 6885.78s

He understood. Hey, I'm fortunate to be here because

Speaker 76885.78s - 6935.4s

I play behind Robert Griffin the 3rd. And if he doesn't get hurt in Washington ORG, we're not talking about Kurt Cousins. Kurt Cousin PERSON took advantage of every situation that was in front of him.He played the game the right way. His ego was not involved. He saw his value. Someone was willing to pay him, overpay him, for what he had a copse at that time on the field. And they're going to franchise tag me at $28million a year. And I'm not going to take that. If I don't take this deal, I had to be the craziest guy playing football. Kurt Cousins became the smartest guy playing football. I'm happy for him. But when you talk about everybody says it's a head scratch, why would they take Michael Pennix Jr. PERSON, but why would you pay a guy $180 for four years that hasn't shown you yet that he can perform a playoff?

Speaker 16935.48s - 6971.72s

Yeah, that's a fair question. So you just give up money to think maybe he's the guy and we're the right place. I just, I don't think he's worried about the heir apparent. He's worried that this team had a chance to really add a big- top 10 piece to a team that thinks that could contend in the South LOC. And they didn't do that.Just like Green Bay didn't do in 2020 when maybe a linebacker or a wide receiver might have put Aaron Rogers in the pack over the top. They take Jordan Love PERSON and, you know, piss off the quarterback. Don't get better for the next year. And that's irritating. But you fast forward a few years and you go, thank God they took Jordan Love. We fast forward three years. Falcons ORG fans mightbe saying, thank God we took Michael Pennix.

Speaker 76972.08s - 6974.48s

That three years, we're about three or four months.

Speaker 16974.58s - 6977.72s

Well, it could be. There's a non-zero chance he starts week one.

Speaker 76977.72s - 6983.82s

Because if Kurt Cousin PERSON is not fully ready to go on the other killings, you can't put him out

Speaker 16983.82s - 6985.16s

to get hurt now. Exactly.

Speaker 76985.24s - 6988.44s

If he's not ready to go, then you got your security blanket.

Speaker 16989.44s - 7195.88s

So again, the draft resumes in about a half hour. The Vikings have five picks today. Coverage on the fan, beginning at 11 o'clock until three. Norto meat sauce, cast a thousands. Please stay tuned on the fan. We'll come back for our final segment and return the conversation to your Minnesota Timberwolves ORG,who are one win away from sweeping the suns and moving on to the Western Conference. Semi-finals. We'll take a look at what that series with the Nuggets ORG might look up. Trent PERSON's got some thoughts. We know the wolves match up pretty well against the champs. We'll chat about that and how they've done it against the suns when we come back in the zone. This three hours bits a piece of cake, man. We can make this work. Bonus in the zone today, Trent Tucker, Dave Sineken, Brett Blakemore PERSON. Final segment before we hand things off to NFL ORG draft coverage on the fan.Browns 4 through 7, kickoff top of the hour. But the A topic, of course, your Minnesota Timberwolves, one game away from sweeping away the Phoenix Suns following a wire-to-wire 26 to 109 win in the Valley of the Sun last night. I think Michael Grady PERSON had the line of the night when the wolves and gnaw was hitting threes. It's raining in the desert. It was a beautiful line by the Vox of the Wolves ORG.Aunt was MVP of game one. Jaden was MVP of game two. The texter guy is nominating Nikiel Alexander Walker as the unsung MVP. We know Cat or we know Ant had 36 and really kind of closed things out down the stretch last night. He's been brilliant all three games, even when a shot wasn't falling in game too. But it's hard to argue with what Nikiel Alexander Walker PERSON brings to this team off the bench on both ends of the floor. And last night, in the third quarter, when the wolves were, as I said, taking away the sun's soul, outscoring them 3620, it was not the beneficiary of some great looks from Ant and others knocking down four threes, offensively, doing the trick defensively. You know, we talk about the stars on this team, and we talk doing the trick, defensively. You know, we talk about the stars on this team, and we talk about the depth on this team. And Nas won the sixth man of the year this week. Congrats to him. Amazing from where he started to where he is now. Is not the best seventh man in the league. He's, where he has come from, from where he was, you know, since the trade to where he is now. He's indispensable for this team. I just love when players emerge. You know,he's played in his cousin's shadow forever's Shay Gilgis Alexander and MVP WORK_OF_ART candidate. And now he's showing, you know what? I finally found a organization that believes in me that's found a role for me. That's what's all about. He's a starter. I mean, he's a start. know what, I finally found a organization that believes in me, that's found a role for me. That's what's all about. He's a starter. I mean, he's a start. He is good enough to be a starter on a playoff team. He is that good. And man, of the wolf's lucky to have him. He's in a good situation.

Speaker 77195.88s - 7205.02s

And as a player, that's all you're asking for is to find an opportunity that fits your game.

Speaker 17205.14s - 7211.04s

And last night, the four three-point shots he hit in the third quarter were provided

Speaker 77211.04s - 7308.24s

by the offense. He didn't go searching for the shots. They won a quick three-point shot off for one pass. It was player movement, ball movement that allowed him, you know, to get to those open spots, sort of a great deal of confidence. They were big baskets at that time. And you need, you know, to get to those open spots, sort of a great deal of confidence. They were big baskets at that time. And you need, you know, your teammates to step up and do the things they're supposed to do and play the roles well that they're asked to play. And defensively, he is, he's as good as the defender as anybody in the league. And the wolves have guys who can get out to you. And they're recognized. And one great thing I saw last night that I really liked.Carl Anthony Towns was guarding, I think, Devin Booker or maybe Bradley Bill PERSON. And normally when one of those small guys are rubbing him off a screen or something and they'll go vacate and move over to another spot on the floor, the big guy would just stop in the lane. But Carolina ORG's time, that was my man. And he kept chasing him. And, yeah, he's not going to have a ton of success, you know, multiple times.Darling PERSON got out to dribble. But he got there and challenged the shot. He chased the shot. He went and challenged the jump shooter. Normally, big guys don't do that. And that just shows me how in tunewhat they're supposed to be doing on the defensive end, and these guys are glued in. And they are, and it's just fun to watch, but, you know, when you get good teamplay, there's nothing better to watch because that means that everybody now feels like they are a huge part to the success of the team.

Speaker 17308.86s - 7332.26s

We had Target Center host, MC, John Barry PERSON on earlier, kind enough to call in. Great to talk to him. And he mentioned going back all the way to the preseason, this team went to Abu Dhabi to play a couple games against the Mavericks ORG. You know, it's a lot of travel. You're going to cross the world. But, you know it. When a team is cocooned together like that for a week, it forms bonds off

Speaker 77332.26s - 7337.28s

the court. And you find out who you are. Right. And it doesn't always make the team close and friendly.

Speaker 27337.28s - 7353.06s

But in this case, it did. You know, there's a lot of young guys on this team and some newcomers that came in like Conley and Nah midseason last year. You know, this was their chance to really get to know these guys. And that kind of started the ball rolling, that they all believed at each other.

Speaker 17353.88s - 7392.98s

Even that first game in Abu Dhabi against Dallas, remember, they went up like 20 in the first half. Like, well, this is going to be fun this year. And it didn't work out that way the whole game necessarily. But it's such a long season. And you go from what we saw back in September to where we are now and how these guys from one through eight or nine are contributing. You mentioned earlier, you love the game Nas played last night. He hasn't really had his shot this series like we're used to it. It hasn't been as reliable. But for those that weren't listening in the 9 o'clock hour, it'll be podcastable. Our whole 9 o'clock hour was Wolves ORG. Remind everybody, what was it about Naz's game last night that caught your attention? He's playing basketball.

Speaker 77393.2s - 7456.56s

I mean, he's making good, smart decisions. You know, he's not just coming in and just jacking up with three-point shots. He's reading the game. He's understanding what he's supposed to be doing. And he, like all of the other big guys on the Wolves ORG team, they have recognized that Phoenix ORG has no one to resist me at the basket.Nasrid PERSON is a very good basketball player. He handles the ball well for a guy who decides a good athlete. And he knows that now I can help this team, not myself, but I can help this team with my production when I take that ball to the basket and put some points on the board for them. And for me, being a guy who's been around great teammatesand had the great fortunes of being on some really good and great teams, it's just nice to see when your teammates are very unselfish, and they recognize that the small things that they do on a daily basis at this time of the year are going to pay huge dividends down the road.

Speaker 17456.82s - 7492s

And that's crucial if you want to make a deep playoff run. You've got to have the chemistry, the belief in each other, the depth, and the unselfishness. And the unselfishness, And the unselfishness. But you also have to have that guy. And the wolves have that guy in number five. And, you know, in game one, he was remarkable and having fun with Kevin Durant PERSON. And he was the talk of the game. In game two, he could not get his offense going. But he played a great game. He had rebounds. He found his teammates. He did all a great game. He had rebounds. He found histeammates. He did all the other things. And the growth. Yeah, he's still turning the ball over a bit too much. We get that.

Speaker 77492.06s - 7493.88s

He's got to work on that. He says a long way to go.

Speaker 17494.02s - 7520.94s

No doubt. And that's the great part of it. But he has come a long way from November. You know, on nights when he doesn't have it. He's not fouling indiscriminately. He's not throwing the ball away with trying to do too much.He has grown so much. And, you know, last night, you know, where he took over in the fourth quarter and, I mean, he led this team from start to finish. But when they started fouling him, he knocked on all his free throws. We don't know what his ceiling is.

Speaker 27521.42s - 7525.72s

But we know his ceiling might be as high as, well,

Speaker 17526.14s - 7537.44s

Victor Wenbanyama's PERSON name is coming through my head as I'm saying this. I think Ant PERSON and Victor Webanyama in three years are going to be the face of this league. I forget about a guy in Oklahoma City GPE now. She's right there too.

Speaker 27537.68s - 7542.04s

And you caught him the best two guard in the game. Well, I think today he is. How old is he?

Speaker 17542.94s - 7544.26s

I don't, 23, 24.

Speaker 47544.6s - 7546.1s

He's not as much older.

Speaker 77546.18s - 7554.06s

But I don't know that his ceiling, it doesn't have the charisma. Not that you need charisma to be the best player, but, you know,

Speaker 17554.18s - 7561.18s

and to me, aunt's ceiling is higher than shades. And I could be wrong, but I just think that there is more growth to come. I think they both are growing up.

Speaker 77561.18s - 7577.46s

I like Anthony PERSON. I was, you know, I've said he, I think he's the best two guard in the game, where a lot of room still left. But the beauty of his game, he has a veteran point guard in Mike County, Jr. You know, that can get in between the ears

Speaker 17577.46s - 7579.32s

and have a conversation with him

Speaker 77579.32s - 7649.52s

about how to continue to grow as the basketball player. But as good as Anthony Edwards has been, he's very fortunate that his team is just as good as well. And that will allow him for a long time to be at the top of the ladder in terms of being one of the best players in the league. And I think the wolves understand nowfrom an organizational standpoint of how to put a team together and how to have a winning team hopefully for many more years to come. The Golden State Warriors, they were just a unique project,a unique project. And I think a lot of people have fell into that category, believing that this is the way that you build a championship project. And I think a lot of people have fell into that category, believing that this is the way that you build a championship team. No, they were just a unique project. We haven't seen another team that try to play like them, have great playoff success. You have to have a balance to what you do on the offensive end. You have to have an inside game and the outside game. And the wolves right now, they have an inside and the outside game.

Speaker 17650.16s - 7717.54s

They appear to be on a collision course with the world champion Denver Nuggets. Both teams have three O leads. Denver can sweep away LeBron and the Lakers tonight. The Wolves could do the same to KD and company tomorrow. That would set up a rematch this time in the Western Conference semifinals between the wolves and the Nuggets. We know the wolves match up well with Denver ORG. They had their number really this year, played them very well. We know last year in the playoffs, some players after the series, after the season said, to be honest, the wolves were the toughest out for us. And we all know that McDaniels and Nas PERSON did not play in that series. know that McDaniels and Nas PERSON did not play in that series. You said earlier in this program, you've got some ideas about how you think this series can go. You know, once that season starts and it's game one in Denver ORG, we're all going to say, oh, man, why did we not get the two seed and get home court advantage? So if there's a game seven, we get them here. Because if it's a game seven in Denver ORG, I'm not sure this team's ready for that just yet. But let's talk about the potential matchup. We could do this more next weekend. I don't know that the series would start before next weekend, but your initial thoughts on a potential matchup.

Speaker 77721.82s - 7880.3s

Well, Denver presents, you know, a different matchup problem just because of Nicola Yolkich PERSON. And right now, I think he, in a one-on-one situation in terms of trying to defend a post player, he's the one guy that other than M.B. is the most unguarable guiding game. But if I had to face up against the Denver Nuggets ORG, and I know they love to run that pick and row with he and Jamal Murray PERSON, I would trap that pick and roll right away every single time. And when they throw the ball back to Yokic PERSON, okay, I got to decide who's in this corner. If it's Caldwell, Pope, whatever name is, have that guy rotate to Yolkish NORP and make them make the pass. I'm going to live with Pope beat me from the corner on three-point shots because he's not one of the main offensive guys. Michael Porter, Jr. PERSON, I am going to make him drive the ball with his left hand to the basket every chance I get. I am not going to let him stand out there and spot up and shoot three-point shots.I haven't seen Michael Porter, Jr. PERSON beat anybody with catching the ball and swinging through and taking the ball to his left hand going to the basket. I got to force him to do things right now that he does not like to do. That's how you plan for every series differently. The Phoenix Suns make them different at the rim. The Denver Nuggets make somebody who is not a major offensive weapontake multiple shots and beat us offensively. And how I want to take Michael Porter Jr. PERSON out of the game, I got to make him a driver. Because he would give you a jab step and go to the basket and step back and shoot a three more so than driving their ball to the hoop. I got to make him a driver with his left hand and see if he can beat me go to the basket and step back and shoot a three, more so than driving their ball to the hoop.I got to make him a driver with his left hand and see if he can beat me going to the way. But I got to trap that pick and rope. I got to make Jamal Murray PERSON pass the ball under the rest. And if I don't rotate out of the corner, Yolkas PERSON is not going to catch the ball and shoot it very quickly. So I can trap, have a hard hedge, and get back.Because Yolkes PERSON's not just going to catch him in a fire where he wants to be deliberate. He's going to take his time. So when you play against the Denver Nuggets ORG, you're going to have to try to get them off what they like to do. But some of the keyoffensive players, especially Michael Porter, Jr. PERSON, I got to make him do things that he's not used to doing, and that's driving that ball to the basket. He's not a great driver. He's a great jump shooter.Right. He wants to shoot the three-point shot. He watched him play against the Lakers the other night. He was knocking down tough jump shots. Get up into his space and force him to drive that ball to his left hand and see if he can beat me off the balance.

Speaker 17880.8s - 7922.86s

We know the wolves match up well with Denver ORG. We said that. We saw game two. It took a miracle shot by Jamal Murray PERSON at the buzzer to win that game. So they haven't been lights out unstoppable against a Lakers ORG team, which is not, as you say, not really built a match up well with Denver ORG.And not as talented as the wolves, clearly. Not close. So obviously the recipe is you've got to steal one of the first two in Denver ORG. You've got to take home court back and come back to Target Center game three. If you were to tell me a week ago, the day of the series with the Suns ORG is about to start, yeah, next Saturday we're going to already be previewing Wolves Nuggets ORG before the Wolf's Sun series is even over.I think I told you that. Yeah, you were extremely confident.

Speaker 27923.06s - 7923.84s

No question.

Speaker 07923.96s - 7932.78s

Now, we both picked them. I thought I was going to be a seven game. Now, it still could be. You know, yeah. You know, if it is, you know, then... That would be a disaster.

Speaker 77932.78s - 7933.92s

That would be a disaster.

Speaker 17934.36s - 7963.1s

We do know that teams that fall in an 03 hole are zero and 151. Yeah, that's making 152. Right. I mean, Wolves Nation ORG, of course, in their head is saying it would be the wolfiest thing ever to be the first team to blow a 3-0 lead. But nothing about what we've watched the last three games leads us to believe that this team is going to go to epic collapse mode.I mean, I did not expect them to win last night. I didn't. I just figured. I did. I know, I mean, you, again, you played, I'm just the worried fans sitting on the coach.

Speaker 77963.1s - 8028.56s

You said, I don't know. I mean, because the Phoenix ORG Suns right now and just, they don't believe they can beat this team. They don't believe it. You know, they're looking for something to give them a glimpse of hope that, hey, we can beat this team. Maybe the world slip up and allow us to win a game that we shouldn't win. And now of a sudden now, we build some confidence, put them back on the hills, and they fall apart because they're young, they knew they haven't had a lot of guys who have been in this position before. But right now, the wolves have the Phoenix Suns ORG and the mindset where the Phoenix Suns ORG does not believe they can beat this basketball team. And if they come out tomorrow and hit them hard right from the start, go for the juggler, don't play around, get this thing over with it, hit them inside right away, bam, bam, bam, bam.And if you punch them early, they may go away because we've seen what the Phoenix ORG signs can do when things are not going well in the close-out game.

Speaker 18028.76s - 8050.84s

It'll be interesting game for the close-out game tomorrow night 830. You'll hear it right here on the fan and we'll preview the next series, which will start next weekend. Hopefully Wolves Nuggets in the Western Conference ORG semis. Enjoy your boys on the hockey ice today, my friend. I will. We will talk to you nextSaturday morning previewing the next round of your Timberwolves ORG NBA playoffs. Okay.

Speaker 78051.34s - 8055.88s
