Speaker 10s - 37.5s
The Dark Tower by Stephen King. The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed. Go then. There are other worlds than these. Death, but not for you, gunslinger. It's time we had our own palaver, I think, and it's going to take a while.
Speaker 041.28s - 58.12s
And yet, dauntless, the slug horn to my lips I set and blue child rolling to the dark tower came we are cotets one from many
Speaker 158.12s - 70.86s
let the palaver begin hello and welcome to Dark Tower Palabra WORK_OF_ART.
Speaker 370.86s - 78.56s
This is our podcast covering Stephen King PERSON's Magnum Opus the Dark Tower series, as well as the extended King universe, which, because all things serve the tower.
Speaker 478.96s - 79.72s
And the beam, indeed.
Speaker 280.24s - 81.24s
And my name is Tad PERSON.
Speaker 481.32s - 81.72s
I'm Peter PERSON.
Speaker 281.88s - 86.8s
And we're here for episode 12 of the book club series going through Wizard and Glass WORK_OF_ART.
Speaker 487.34s - 91.98s
God knows what the actual count would be if we had a numerical count of all the book clubs.
Speaker 392.62s - 93.8s
That'd be interesting to find out.
Speaker 294.24s - 98.3s
I think we'd easily be at least approaching 100, if not over 100.
Speaker 398.3s - 98.5s
Yeah.
Speaker 298.8s - 103.6s
Because I know we had a few of the longer books were in the 20, in the mid-20s.
Speaker 5103.72s - 107.46s
So I think it would be a safe assumption that we were probably hovering around 100.
Speaker 2107.46s - 155.44s
By the way, number 12 for Wizard and Glass WORK_OF_ART, I think there was some shenanigans on the last episode where I, last book club, where I had the wrong number on the slides. So I do apologize for that. But this one should be matching across the board as number 12. Let's go ahead and dive in real quick to the introduction stuff real quick announcement stuff. First, spoiler warning. There is no spoiler warning until the very, very end of the episode. You will hear a very clear thing before we move into that as well as the screen. I'll change if you hear on YouTube side. These are the safe episodes to listen to if you've not finished the seven primary books, the Dark Tower WORK_OF_ART series. We stay where we're at or before we don't jump ahead except for a spoiler section. And I guess we could probably say that I don't think there is a spoiler section for this episode.Neither of us had any notes for spoiler stuff.
Speaker 4155.56s - 183.42s
Not this time. It seems like a lot of this, especially as we dove into this flashback for Wizard and Glass WORK_OF_ART, it seems like a lot of it's very self-contained. I mean, i can't say that that is going to prove through all the way i'm sure at some point we're going to have some more spoilery stuff but a lot of times the spoiler section we would like to kind of see howwhat we're talking about connects to you know later things or whatever um but that hasn't been as necessary since we've gotten into this uh backstory of young roland here next up if you want to find
Speaker 3183.42s - 246.42s
us you can uh find us on anywhere. You find podcasting, including Apple Podcasts, stream us on Spotify, Amazon Music, Audible PRODUCT, any podcasting service of your choice. On any of those, if you could subscribe, rate and review the show. We would appreciate that. That keeps Mr. Blaine the motto happy and keeps him from torching Peter PERSON and I with blue lightning, giving us lightning teeth like Luke Skywalker PERSON. And then if you want to join the show live, you can do that over here at YouTube.com slash Dark Tower Palaver PRODUCT. Not only that, but all of our live streams do stay in the archive there. We've been doing those for a number of years now so you can find old episodes on here as well. But yeah, if you want to come on over here to the YouTube ORG side, like, subscribe, bring the bell for notifications. That way, if schedules move around, like we're in the middle of right now, as a matter of fact, this episode should have been a week ago. That's kind of how you'll find it as well as I usually post one of the little text posts on YouTube ORG as well, to let you all know when something's changing. But the notifications are a good way to know kind of when we're going live. If you want to be it here and part of the conversation in the live chat, which of course, emojis are always welcome.
Speaker 2246.58s - 246.96s
No.
Speaker 4247.88s - 249.34s
And then the hub
Speaker 3249.34s - 250.96s
at the center of the wheel
Speaker 4250.96s - 252.26s
of the Dark Tower Palliver PRODUCT universe
Speaker 2252.26s - 253.94s
Speaker 4253.94s - 255.42s
It has links to all things,
Speaker 2255.48s - 256.34s
Speaker 4257.34s - 281.28s
So go over there. You know, we just wrapped March insanity not too long ago. We have questions for new listeners. We have the show notes. There isn't necessarily show notes for book club episodes, but if you were listening to the roundtables, those show notes are over there at darktowerpelever.com. If you want to support the show, you can do that over at patreon.com slash dark tower plover. I know in the Discord server you get access to there, there was some Stephen King quiz action going around.
Speaker 2281.36s - 296.52s
I haven't had a chance to do it yet myself, but seems like everyone was getting 100%. Every single time I feel like I look at it, I don't have like the minutes at that moment. And then I forget when I do have time. So I do need to circle back and do that
Speaker 0296.52s - 301.76s
myself. Although, of course, I would bring shame to myself if I were to get less than 100%
Speaker 2301.76s - 305.42s
since everyone else in there is definitely getting 100% on that.
Speaker 0305.58s - 307.76s
There's no shame in that. I don't know.
Speaker 3307.94s - 312.36s
Depends. What is the name with a boy in Coojo PERSON? I don't know.
Speaker 2313s - 313.34s
Speaker 3313.6s - 314.36s
Yeah, Peter PERSON.
Speaker 2314.56s - 318.68s
I don't know. All right. And if you want to contact us, Peter PERSON can let you know the best ways to do that.
Speaker 4318.88s - 327.2s
Best way to reach us is through email. It's show at darktower.com. And then we still got our Twitter ORG. We're refusing to call it X. It's still Twitter ORG.
Speaker 2327.54s - 348.38s
It's at Dark Tower Pod FAC. That's at Dark Tower P-O-D. And then we got our Blue Sky ORG account. It's at DarkTower FAC. Palliver ORG. Dot B-S-K-Y dot social. And then our Facebook ORG is Facebook.com slash darktower palaver. And our Instagram is Dark Tower Palliver, all one word with no spaces in there. And then check out our merchandise is tapublic.com ORG slash users slash dark tower palaver.
Speaker 0348.58s - 354.14s
Pick yourself up a hashtag Tad PERSON is terrible sticker, pillow, hoodie, t-shirt.
Speaker 3354.52s - 355.74s
Or the regular logo.
Speaker 4355.74s - 357.12s
If you're not into slander.
Speaker 3357.26s - 358.26s
It's not slander, sir.
Speaker 4358.38s - 360.18s
It is 100% confirmed.
Speaker 3360.76s - 380.84s
Oh, I don't know about that. But yeah, that is the social media stuff And then I will mention the schedule I already kind of alluded to it So like I said last week We should have been this episodeSo it got delayed a week But just to add even more confusion Next week I will be Actually it does actually seem like I won't actually be in the theaters I will just be sleeping
Speaker 0380.84s - 394.06s
Because it looks like the marathon for Star Wars Starts late the night of the third. And then so most, and I'm also, I'm only watching the original six because I'm not 20 whatever anymore. Like the last time I did a crazy-ass marathon. Yeah.
Speaker 5394.06s - 397.22s
And I just don't know if I can handle that long in the theaters.
Speaker 0397.5s - 465.42s
Plus, I've also seen the sequel trilogy in theaters not all that long ago. Whereas the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy I haven't seen since 1997, 1999, 2002, and 2005. That's all been a long time. So I'm really looking forward to seeing those again. But I'm doing that. They're doing it for the May the 4th, which means I will be punchy-ass tired and probably sleeping about the time we'd normally be doing the show. So that one is actually being delayed until the 11th. So even though usually after moving an episode, we end up having two the butt up against each other. That will be happening, but just not next week on the fourth. So it'll actually feel normal where we have two weeks after this episode until the next episode. But then it'll be the 11th and the 18th will be our two that butt together that get us back on schedule. So that is the uh the schedule as it's coming up also i wanted to uh point out um you know a funny thing that happened uh there was somebody uh posted on one of the uh dark tower i think it was dark tower or stephen king's subredits about um shimi showing up in uh uh gunslinger WORK_OF_ART and i went in and i'm like no i'm like uh he gets remembered twice in gunslinger. Oh, yeah? And I went in and I'm like, no.
Speaker 2465.54s - 469.64s
I'm like, uh, he gets remembered twice in gunslinger WORK_OF_ART, but he doesn't show up.
Speaker 0469.64s - 473.8s
I'm like, you're, you're thinking of Shab PERSON, um, uh, which obviously is here,
Speaker 3473.86s - 474.46s
wizard and glass.
Speaker 0474.84s - 487.4s
Uh, and then, um, the person was like, whatever, but then somebody else came in, uh, and was trying to be like, uh, whatever and saying that, uh, Shep, uh, was Shimi PERSON's dad. And could be be No, Stanley
Speaker 4487.4s - 493.78s
Oh the bartender, right, that's one of this. And it was just, it just made me laugh because literally we were just on the heels of doing
Speaker 2493.78s - 495.72s
this episode where we covered
Speaker 4495.72s - 497.08s
because all the proof is in the episode
Speaker 2497.08s - 502.48s
or the chunk we just covered because Stanley PERSON steps up and in his internal monologue it says
Speaker 4502.48s - 505.74s
I got to step up and try he might be my son he may
Speaker 3505.74s - 522.94s
very well be my son and then also down the road stanley ruiz we end up seeing uh shimi in fact if you look him up on uh any of the stuff and it says shemi ruiz PERSON so i think that all indications are it's his father uh and then also um uh sheb's last name is McCurdy PERSON which is also
Speaker 4522.94s - 534.46s
in the section that we covered last episode so it was just really funny because it was all so fresh in my mind. Uh, and I'm like, I don't want to like come off like I'm like this know it all. It's literally that it's just so damn fresh in my head because we literally just covered.
Speaker 3534.46s - 547.56s
We just covered this. So, um, I just made me laugh because there was a one person that kind of had that whole like, I'm not wrong. No matter what mentality was the second guy, not the original guy. The original guy's like, oh, okay, cool, yeah.
Speaker 4547.62s - 569.96s
And then I told him, like, where to go to read the proof of what I was saying. 25 for Wizard and Glass, not Wizarding Glass, wastelands, 22 for drawing of the three, and only five for Gunslinger PRODUCT. Oh, yeah. So, short book. Short book. So that comes to a total of 52. Really? five for gunslinger WORK_OF_ART. Oh, yeah. So short book. Short book. So that comes to a total of 52.Really? Wow. 52 book clubs.
Speaker 3570.26s - 573.72s
Man. And then we're on number 12 here.
Speaker 0574.4s - 576.72s
So which our document says 11.
Speaker 3578.56s - 581.46s
Yeah, something's wrong on which, which.
Speaker 4582.48s - 590.14s
Where we have our notes says book club number 11. God god i think we're on now are we on 12 or are we on
Speaker 3590.14s - 595.2s
11 no i think i pull up the the actual podcast uh website because the other thing that annoys me is
Speaker 4595.2s - 600.2s
i just found out also uh dark tower plebvre ORG dot com something they updated something on the website
Speaker 3600.2s - 608.76s
side and it broke the link to our podcast hosting site so probably the the last couple months worth of episodes, the episode post where it shows like
Speaker 4608.76s - 610.92s
the audio has not been coming to our website.
Speaker 3611.42s - 612.6s
I've got it reconnected.
Speaker 4612.64s - 633.4s
So this one will show up there. But I don't know in terms of trying to figure out how to get the old ones to repost that didn't post. I don't know. So I haven't even been able to go to dark tarrypliver.com and get like truth in terms of the episodes. But I went to the place we post our episodes and the last one was 11. So this will be 64th book club for us. Good old Nintendo 64.
Speaker 3633.62s - 667.28s
I love that number. All right. So we are currently in part two of this book. This one is cut up into four parts. Each of the parts have obviously chapters in them. The first one and the last one are really short. The middle two have 10 chapters. We are currently in chapter six of part two. Part two is subtitled Susan PERSON. Chapter six is subtitled Shemi PERSON. And we are actually going to be jumping over into chapter seven during the course of this episode. We are starting out in subchapter eight. We pretty much left off right after the showdown at the Travelers Rest FAC.
Speaker 5667.42s - 672.44s
The fan voted Dark Tower Palaver March Insanity winner for Best Dark Tower WORK_OF_ART Moment.
Speaker 3672.88s - 683.42s
We just finished that last time. So here we are. Time to deal with the repercussions. What happened? What happens after now? We know when Shemi ran out that Avery PERSON was coming.
Speaker 4683.58s - 687.6s
Sheriff Avery PERSON. Yes. Let's not, you know, besmirch the good sheriff.
Speaker 3688.88s - 696.44s
Uh, might want to. He seems like kind of a shady fella. We've seen a couple conversations with him that make us think that he's not on the
Speaker 4696.44s - 699.38s
up and up. He is definitely up to no good. That's for sure.
Speaker 3699.54s - 700.18s
Yeah, indeed.
Speaker 4700.46s - 702.42s
As well as a lot of the people in this town.
Speaker 3702.5s - 702.92s
Uh-huh.
Speaker 4703.04s - 706.74s
I just feel like if this were a cartoon, you'd see a lot of shifty eyes.
Speaker 3706.98s - 708.34s
A lot of twirling and mustaches.
Speaker 4711.14s - 712.48s
Yes. Indeed.
Speaker 3713.04s - 714.86s
So let's dive on into subchapter 8.
Speaker 5715.86s - 734.96s
And starting off here, I have a line directly from the book here. And it is, quote, this is a nice mess, isn't it? Avery PERSON speaking. No one answering. He hadn't expected they would, not if they knew it was good for them. So that's a fun little, yeah, fun little set up there. Kind of the castigating parent is what he's seeming like right off the matter here.
Speaker 2735.52s - 761.64s
And then getting into just kind of like recapping here, the jail would have been, would not have been big enough for the six participants in the night's events as well as the rotund to sheriff. So he heard of them to the town gathering hall. The hall, the empty hall echoed with the fluttering of pigeons and the rafters and the ticking of the grandfather clock behind the podium. Have you had a lot of experience of grandfather clocks? Just to pause, I don't have a note for this, but any like family have a lot of, so my one,
Speaker 3761.64s - 779.22s
my one grandma has like a lot of like grandfather She has a couple grandfather clocks And a lot of wall clocks that tick Yeah And I just I remember going over there And like you know We got used to it at a certain pointBut I remember every time somebody strange would come over You'd be like what the hell man There's like clicking everywhere in this place So this is I know what this is like
Speaker 4779.22s - 790.58s
I had a clock up in my apartment for a little bit And someone came and spent the night And we're like we know get up in the morning We're like like, oh, did you do everything go okay? They're like, yeah, but your damn clock was so loud. Took it down. We've never put up another one.
Speaker 3790.64s - 795.44s
Really? Digital only. Oh, and see, my grandma's, is it just like, because some of like the normal wall
Speaker 4795.44s - 805.58s
clocks have like a slight tick to them and at night you'd hear it. My, that's what we had. It's just like a normal wall clock. I think it was like a nightmare before Christmas one or something, because my wife loves that movie. Yeah. And so it just like, it was like the second hand. And see, my grandmas, it was like a nightmare before Christmas one or something because my wife loves that movie. Yeah.
Speaker 3805.58s - 811.96s
And so it was like, it was like the second hand. And see my grandmas, it was like the ones that have like the pendulum. The big.
Speaker 4812.16s - 818.76s
They'll ding on the half hour once and then they'll ding for the hour. What you see in Frannie PERSON's mom's sitting room.
Speaker 3818.84s - 820.04s
That's the kind of stuff my grandma had.
Speaker 4820.14s - 829.56s
She had a big grandfather clock, which are the ones that stand up on the ground. She had two of those, one upstairs, one downstairs. But then she probably had wall clocks at least one or two on every other floor as well.
Speaker 2829.56s - 829.84s
Any cuckoo?
Speaker 5830.46s - 833.2s
No, my other grandma had a cuckoo clock, though, as a kid.
Speaker 3833.56s - 834.64s
Did you enjoy it or?
Speaker 4835.56s - 837.26s
I mean, when I was really young, yeah.
Speaker 3837.26s - 838.54s
You're like, hey, cuckoo.
Speaker 4839.04s - 839.74s
Yeah, indeed.
Speaker 2840.14s - 877.7s
So, yeah, I definitely know what they're talking about, the clicking of a clock in a room. So the room is plain, but it was an inspired choice because for generations, this is where town folks and landowners had come to make decisions and pass laws and occasionally to send troublemakers west. The room had a serious feel in its moon glimmered darkness, and Roland thought that even Jonas PERSON felt it a bit. If nothing else, it invested Avery PERSON with the authority that he would not have otherwise been able to convey. The room was filled with what they called bareback benches, oak pews with no padding or cushion for back or butt. I just don't like the sound of that.
Speaker 3878.26s - 881.26s
It's church. But it's still, for God's sake.
Speaker 4881.86s - 887.04s
It's church. Get some padding for God's sake. That's a lot of church pews. Well, this is a town hall. I mean, liven it sake. It's church. Get some padding for God's sake. That's a lot of church pews.
Speaker 3887.04s - 888.4s
Well, this is a town hall.
Speaker 4888.54s - 889.64s
I mean, liven it up.
Speaker 3889.7s - 890.98s
Get some padding for God's sake.
Speaker 4891.06s - 896.58s
No, the idea is that you make it uncomfortable so you get out of there faster. Don't make it comfortable because then you get long-winded people.
Speaker 3896.78s - 900.34s
Yeah, that's true. I have to imagine some long-winded people. It wouldn't matter, though.
Speaker 5902.64s - 908.48s
So they were, they were, there were 60 in total, 30 on each side of the wide center aisle.
Speaker 3908.64s - 912.16s
The coffin hunters are sitting on the left side of the aisle and our boys are sitting on the
Speaker 5912.16s - 912.64s
right side.
Speaker 3913.06s - 916.94s
Reynolds and the Pape looked sullen and embarrassed while Jonas PERSON looked remote and composed.
Speaker 5917.4s - 921.22s
The boys were quiet, rolling at giving Cuthbert a look, which he hoped Bert PERSON would read
Speaker 3921.22s - 923.74s
as one smart remark and I'll rip the tongue out of your head.
Speaker 5924.22s - 925.84s
And he thought that the message was received.
Speaker 3926.28s - 930.56s
Bert PERSON had stowed his idiotic lookout out of sight and that was probably a good sign.
Speaker 5933.24s - 935.4s
Yeah, good old Bert PERSON, look out.
Speaker 3935.56s - 939.04s
I feel like generally speaking like that, that death look, it's apparent thing, right?
Speaker 4939.04s - 939.34s
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 5939.5s - 949.42s
But, you know, like I have to imagine, like, you know, these are, what, 14-year-old boys? I have to imagine that Roland has refined this look over the years, which is crazy these are, what, 14-year-old boys? I have to imagine that Roland has refined this look over the years, which is crazy to think about for a 14-year-old.
Speaker 4949.58s - 954.78s
Well, especially when you think about what he's grown up with. I mean, you got court, you know, impression on him.
Speaker 3954.92s - 959.46s
And I can tell you right now, court probably has the worst stink eye of any parent ever,
Speaker 0959.62s - 963.4s
just like, like that whips sound crack when he looks at you.
Speaker 2963.8s - 966.04s
And the boys go, boys go and fall over dead
Speaker 0966.04s - 967.96s
you know kind of thing yeah yeah
Speaker 3967.96s - 970.1s
it just makes me laugh
Speaker 4970.1s - 990.4s
because it just seems like this should be something for like a parent or an older person not for a 14 year old kid to his contemporary like that just that just tells you everything you need to know about their relationship it goes to show like whereRoland PERSON is at as a leader already that too yeah I mean this is his first mission and everything. We don't even know like really truly like what the mission is and everything yet, right?
Speaker 3990.46s - 998.6s
I know I missed a few book clubs there. Yeah, well, his dad told him ultimately we're getting you out of, right. We're taking you off the board essentially to be safe.
Speaker 4998.72s - 1001.48s
So ultimately it's a Heidi PERSON mission. Yeah, hide away.
Speaker 31001.66s - 1002.94s
But Roland PERSON is in charge.
Speaker 41003.06s - 1003.66s
Yes, absolutely.
Speaker 31003.66s - 1004.7s
Because I mean, he's ultimately.
Speaker 41005.52s - 1033.38s
He is an apprentice. Yeah, he's an apprentice gunslinger which is very very unusual uh what did court say to him you're a couple years too young even you know your father is the youngest and you're a few years younger he's younger than you're younger he's young and he'm like and he asked him to like don't do it basically yeah he gave him like one last chance he said this is your last chance to withdraw and he's like by the way this you were younger than your dad by a couple years i'm giving you one last chance. He said, this is your last chance to withdraw. And he's like, by the way, you were younger than your dad by a couple of years. I'm giving you one last chance. It's like, how many last chance are we going to give him?And it's like, oh, he's that young. Okay.
Speaker 31033.66s - 1035.86s
And what I loved about, I know that's, this is backtracking.
Speaker 41035.94s - 1046.04s
What I loved about that is it felt like there was like a formal thing there. Yeah. You know, like, you know, question and response. Like, it felt like that was like a thing that had been built for generations. And has to be done that way every time.
Speaker 31046.04s - 1050.24s
And court was breaking it. Yep. Because he knew that like this isn't the right move.
Speaker 41050.42s - 1052.7s
Like you're, I don't know. So it shows.
Speaker 31052.7s - 1057.8s
But he still went through with it in the end because that's the right. That's what's required of him. Bondsman PERSON.
Speaker 41058.04s - 1082.18s
Yeah. Indeed. So the sharp cut from the traveler's rest to this just feels perfect to me. I know the places had quieted down due to the showdown, but before that it was a very loud and rowdy place. On this place seems as quiet as a crypt.Like the rest, even in the tense or silence, it feels like it may have been a full and warm place. This feels like a very cold, empty place,
Speaker 01082.58s - 1086.2s
and it fits the mood of this moment quite well, I think.
Speaker 21086.44s - 1088.36s
But that's kind of, I just, I don't know.
Speaker 01088.7s - 1090.36s
King's not really saying a ton.
Speaker 21090.44s - 1091.84s
I feel like it's kind of between the lines.
Speaker 01092.2s - 1093.48s
But I just feel like there's a difference.
Speaker 41093.72s - 1101.5s
Like, you know, even the traveler's rest, like you probably imagine there was fires for the light and stuff. But it also had war. There was a piano playing and then it got cut off and everything.
Speaker 31101.78s - 1105.52s
Yeah. Everyone's drinking and eating. This just feels like almost like.
Speaker 41105.52s - 1111.38s
You got whores going on in the background over here. I'm a horn going on. So, you know, it's, yeah, it's a, it's a bar.
Speaker 31111.54s - 1139.44s
And this feels like like courtrooms, you know, you have a courtroom and there's a cold, like impersonal feeling to every courtroom. And that's kind of what this is feeling like to me. So it's just a kind of a cool juxtaposition because, yes, we technically saw Shimi PERSON walk out to run into Avery PERSON. But outside of that, we've just spent the last how many subchapters in that room.Yeah. You know, that was, and then suddenly it was just like sharp cut. Like we don't see them walking. We don't see. And it's just suddenly here we are.
Speaker 41139.56s - 1144.84s
There's not even like the decision to go to the town hall because it's more open than the jail and everything.
Speaker 31144.84s - 1150.3s
It's just, we're immediately there. And I just feel like it's, it's perfect. I could see it on screen almost type thing.
Speaker 41150.3s - 1156.5s
It's kind of, it'd be the transition between an episode, right? Like, she me running out, running into the sheriff credits.
Speaker 31156.82s - 1188.32s
Yeah. Start of the next episode, we're in the town hall, right? Yeah, probably. Yeah. That sounds about right. Oh, we got two comments in the live chat here onyoutube i'm going to kind of paraphrase a little bit because we do have a spoiler warning in effect uh it seems like uh he roland often expects cuthbert to embarrass him or publicly make a uh full of himself so yeah like it's just like expected from roland yeah it's like built in with with and it's the perfect like uh shows the juxtaposition of the two types of people they are to right.
Speaker 41188.48s - 1209.5s
Roland PERSON's a certain kind of person that we're pretty familiar with by now. And Cuthbert, I think we've we saw a bit of him in the first book. We've seen a little bit of him in this one. And I think we just understand kind of who he is as a character. We did get one really good example of Bert PERSON embarrassing himself is that he made the, he made the face or he made a hand gesture behind courts back.
Speaker 01209.58s - 1215.78s
And he's like, he's like, how'd you see me? He's like, I saw it in this maggot side. He saw the reflection in Roland PERSON's eye like.
Speaker 31215.86s - 1216.48s
And hit him, yeah.
Speaker 01216.48s - 1218.92s
Yeah, then turned around and hit Bert PERSON with it.
Speaker 31219.54s - 1223s
And then Baraki says, we don't always see Bert PERSON doing it too much.
Speaker 01224.18s - 1225.5s
Embarrassing Roland PERSON, he means.
Speaker 41225.94s - 1232.74s
But we're not privy to all the other times. That's true. We don't see a ton of Cuthbert PERSON. It's in this book and book one, right?
Speaker 31232.82s - 1235.62s
Yeah. So I think these moments are great because I think they're really showing.
Speaker 41235.62s - 1239.48s
Like, it ultimately is showing you what does that relationship look like? Yeah.
Speaker 31239.68s - 1243.1s
You know, they're both around 14. Chances are they probably known each other their entire lives.
Speaker 41243.1s - 1246.06s
They have known each other their entire lives. They have known each other their entire lives. They say that in book one.
Speaker 31246.12s - 1252.12s
So it's ultimately like, okay, what does the 14 years look like? Well, some of these little hints here are kind of showing us what that probably looked like.
Speaker 41252.4s - 1269.1s
I love the idea of the big coffin hunters sitting here in the pews. Like we just talked about the pews being hard and uncomfortable and everything like that. I love the idea of big coffin hunters who were just talking that they were going to murder sheamy PERSON for spilling alcohol on his boots, you know, like, I need entertainment, I'm going to kill this
Speaker 01269.1s - 1269.34s
guy.
Speaker 21269.5s - 1269.74s
Yeah.
Speaker 41270.12s - 1278.7s
They're sitting in these pews like schoolboys getting yelled at by the headmaster or principal, you know, like, I've been picturing them in like the shorts and the high socks and it's
Speaker 31278.7s - 1282.56s
like, yes, sir. Looking like a guitarist from ACDC.
Speaker 41283.12s - 1284.58s
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 31286.28s - 1290.72s
So my next note, the fluttering pigeons and the rafters reminds me the stand with the first gathering in Boulder GPE.
Speaker 41290.94s - 1292.82s
Yeah, where they scare them off when they cheer.
Speaker 31293.02s - 1296.02s
Multiple times and then they finally skedaddle out of there.
Speaker 41296.32s - 1310.1s
It just, I don't know. I don't think that's something that we see in our society very often. I have been to some larger stores like Walmarts ORG and stuff like, you'll see a bird here and there. Yeah. That gets in, usually through, like, the garden air. I've also seen in Costco ORG. Home Depot and Lowe's ORG.
Speaker 31310.1s - 1313.66s
Yeah. They have, like, the big garden centers that are open.
Speaker 41313.86s - 1314.14s
Yeah.
Speaker 31314.3s - 1316.82s
Yeah. So you'll, you'll, every once in a while you'll see a bird fluttering through the inside.
Speaker 41316.96s - 1323.74s
Yeah. But it's nothing like this. This definitely feels like a different time. And it's also interesting that they let them, like, they let them roost in there.
Speaker 31323.88s - 1331.72s
Yeah. You know, like, now, you know, in our culture, in our society, it's like, no, no, no, birds are dirty, da-da, you know, and everything. But here it's just like, yeah, fine, whatever.
Speaker 41331.94s - 1332.2s
Yeah.
Speaker 31332.4s - 1339.28s
Well, it does weird me out when I see them in Walmart ORG, because it's like there's food there. Yeah. Like, are they pecking at the fruit and stuff?
Speaker 41339.4s - 1339.52s
Yeah.
Speaker 21339.52s - 1343.4s
It's just, I don't know. Home Depot ORG, fine. Like, what are they really going to hurt?
Speaker 41343.6s - 1346.74s
But, I mean, you might have... Now something that you're going to be eating.
Speaker 31347.24s - 1348.2s
Yeah. Exactly.
Speaker 41348.58s - 1349s
Oh, no.
Speaker 31349.08s - 1350.96s
They picked it a plant that I'm going to plant in my garden.
Speaker 41351.2s - 1351.32s
Yeah.
Speaker 31352.48s - 1360.08s
Next up, recapping what they do in this room and ending in on sending Troublemakers West is a good way to make us a little bit more nervous about all this.
Speaker 41360.16s - 1360.32s
Yeah.
Speaker 31360.4s - 1361.56s
It's like, oh, this is serious.
Speaker 41361.78s - 1362.06s
Yeah.
Speaker 31362.24s - 1374.6s
Yeah, exactly. And like you kind of, again, it's like a courtroom. It's like when you're in a courtroom, there's seriousness to it. You're not going into a courtroom like a bar or, you know, a fun place. Like, no, when you're in a courtroom, it's for not good reasons.
Speaker 41374.6s - 1377.54s
You can end up in prison if you act like that in a courtroom, kind of thing.
Speaker 31377.9s - 1382.02s
Also, I like the calling out kind of like what you're talking about, like setting the mood.
Speaker 41382.4s - 1390.84s
The very first line is he hadn't expected that they would, not if they knew what was good for them, absolutely establishing Avery PERSON's authority over the situation.
Speaker 31391.18s - 1402.16s
Yeah, yeah, indeed. And then next up, also Clay and Roy being sullen and embarrassed while Jonas PERSON being distant, Buck and Pose PERSON makes you think they know what they're in for from him when he gets him alone.
Speaker 41402.28s - 1421.4s
Yeah, and I added a note onto yours here. It's like kids getting yelled at by a teacher or a principal in front of their parents. Yeah. Which we both have had happened to us. You know that the real butt will...Who me? Shut up. Shut up. I don't know about that. I've heard stories about you lying to police officers as a junior high kid, so don't even...
Speaker 31421.4s - 1422.24s
I don't know what you're talking about.
Speaker 41422.36s - 1422.84s
Trouble maker.
Speaker 31424.3s - 1425.98s
But they know that the real but woman's
Speaker 41425.98s - 1428.16s
Coming later when mom and dad get them alone Right?
Speaker 31428.26s - 1431.14s
Yeah. Like that's what I'm picturing here is the
Speaker 41431.14s - 1437.02s
Please don't please don't stop yalling at us Because then you're going to leave me alone with Daddy Jonas And Jonas PERSON is going to spake me
Speaker 31437.02s - 1444.28s
Yeah, the one that was always And I know it sounds different in this era But for me it was like restaurants
Speaker 41444.28s - 1465.5s
We were taught to always behave in restaurants. And if not, you were either getting brought to the bathroom or being brought out to the car. Yeah, come on. We're going outside. And it's like, uh-oh. Good things don't happen out there.Nope. For ill-behaved little children. All right. You know, you got that. You're not there. And in my last note, I love how Roland PERSON feels. He has to communicate to Kuthbert PERSON to keep his mouth shut.
Speaker 01465.74s - 1480.62s
Again, it just speaks to their relationship. And, like, the thing is, is, like, there's a familiarity there. Like, right? Like, you meet someone for the first time. Like, you're not, they're not going to be able to discern what looks mean. But, like, you and I, like, we can trade looks and kind of communicate.
Speaker 41480.82s - 1496.44s
Anyone who's had any kind of a relationship for a certain amount of time, me and my wife, even me and my daughter have past looks. Like, judgy looks like, we're out in public and someone does something and I look at her and she looks back at me,it's just like the, the fuck, really? Did she just say that? You know, kind of thing.
Speaker 51496.66s - 1499.96s
Everyone has that. And these guys have known each other since birth.
Speaker 31500.1s - 1504.38s
Yeah. You know, like they talk about it in book one. They've been running around since they were babies,
Speaker 41504.52s - 1505.88s
you know, learning how to walk and stuff.
Speaker 31505.98s - 1512.06s
But also doesn't it speak something to Cuthbert that Roland PERSON feels he has to warn him via the look?
Speaker 41512.28s - 1513.74s
He doesn't trust him to do it himself.
Speaker 21513.74s - 1516.76s
He doesn't trust him to know, like, hey, this is a serious fucking situation.
Speaker 41516.88s - 1524.96s
Shut the hell up. Like, you would hope that maybe he would give him the benefit of the doubt to know, like, let's be quiet. Giving you a little Richie Tozier PERSON vibe there maybe?
Speaker 31526.54s - 1534.86s
That's, uh, yeah, you know, that's... Beep, beep, keep, keep, cuthbert. That's probably not too far off. And also, both are very beloved characters in their respective stories.
Speaker 41534.86s - 1537.26s
Because people like Loud Mouse, Tad PERSON. Wow.
Speaker 31538.34s - 1548.52s
Unless they have to be around them too much. All right, next up, Avery PERSON repeats a nice mess again and sighed with a liquor-scented breath.
Speaker 41548.76s - 1555.46s
Yeah, we got to remember they all just came from like that ball, that gala where everyone got drunk and was dancing and having a good time and everything.
Speaker 31555.46s - 1558.74s
It was the after party where the stuff went sour.
Speaker 41559s - 1567.12s
Yeah, he was sitting on the edge of the stage with his short legs hanging down and looking at all all six of them with disgusted wonder.
Speaker 31567.66s - 1571.24s
Deputy Dave opened the door comes in, disheveled looking, holding a mug in one hand,
Speaker 41571.32s - 1574s
and what Roland PERSON thinks is a birch bark in the other hand.
Speaker 31575.12s - 1582s
They both discussed if it was twice boiled, and Deputy Dave says it was per instructions.
Speaker 41582.56s - 1585.5s
Avery takes the mug and Dave pours the birch bark into the mug.
Speaker 31585.94s - 1604.44s
Avery calls it foul and nasty and Jonas PERSON asks what it is. And Avery PERSON said hangover powder from the old witch who lives up on the coups and asks if he knows where he means. And gives Jonas a knowing look that Jonas ignores, but Roland PERSON thinks he saw it and wonders what it might mean. And kind of notes to himself another mystery.
Speaker 51605.68s - 1642.96s
DePape PERSON looks up at the word coos but went back down to sucking his wounded finger, which, Ow. But isn't like coos, and his head pops up, huh, huh? And then he goes back to it. So that just, that fits what we've seen of him so far. And then beyond him, Reynolds PERSON sat grimly with the cloak drawn about him.Roland asks if the powder worked and Avery PERSON said that it did, but you always pay a price with which is medicine. This helps hangovers, but grips the bowels something fierce and gives you the farts. He went back to his former gravity, but the mood in the room had lightened a smidge, which does go to the old axiom, that farts are always funny.Yes.
Speaker 31643.6s - 1686.82s
He asked what they were to do about this business. He said that they had the mayor's men on one side and the affiliations men on the other. But he pauses as he calls the affiliation side men. He then calls it two powder kegs with one fat sheriff between them. He tells them to speak up, no need to be shy. They weren't in Coral's Horton FAC, uh, just alittle bit ago. They said nothing. And then finally, uh, he finally said something that didn't surprise Roland much. And it's exactly what you'd expect from a man like Avery PERSON. He said, we were just going to forget it. Uh, he expected an uproar and intended to handle it, but none came. So got to love those. You always have, see life, too, where someone expects like a reaction.
Speaker 41687.46s - 1690.24s
And then when they don't get it, it's like, oh, all right, cool. Everyone's listening.
Speaker 51690.46s - 1704.62s
Yeah. So my notes here, not very good of Avery PERSON to call out the coups being known by the coffin hunters. Maybe he doesn't give the boys credit enough to see through his bullshit. But Roland PERSON did, even if he doesn't know what it means exactly.
Speaker 41704.88s - 1710.36s
I wonder if it's something where, because we've seen that the coffin hunters went up to the coups.
Speaker 31710.46s - 1720.52s
Yeah. And they gave her something, and we're like, well, this is a powerful something. It's the pink ball, right? Yeah. And I wonder if Avery PERSON was a part of the plan to give her that.
Speaker 41721.18s - 1729.92s
Because we may not know, he may not know, but what if he does know, and this is his way of letting the coffin hunters know that, yeah, I'm, I feel like, I know what's going on.
Speaker 31729.92s - 1738.68s
I feel like we may have, maybe it was one of you weren't here, but I feel like we covered it in that, where they had that meeting amongst the town top dogs and the coffin hunters.
Speaker 41738.94s - 1749.14s
So I think we've been given the impression that, yeah, like, he knows and that's where it's just like he should know well enough. It's more of like, oh, okay, so he shouldn't be mentioning it. So it's more of like, yeah, like, he knows, and that's where it's just like he should know well enough not to mention it. Oh, okay, so he shouldn't be mentioning it. So it's more of like, yeah, I got it from the coups.
Speaker 31749.72s - 1752.16s
Yeah, you know what that is, don't you?
Speaker 41752.16s - 1753.54s
Week. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 31753.84s - 1754.04s
Yeah.
Speaker 41754.2s - 1755.1s
So again, come on, dude.
Speaker 31755.16s - 1756.18s
Don't be more obvious.
Speaker 41756.48s - 1759.54s
But then again, do you think they're dealing with a bunch of children here?
Speaker 31759.72s - 1762.3s
So, to his credit, I guess there's at least that.
Speaker 41762.94s - 1792.12s
My next note, I like that it is Jonas and asks what the powder is. It just feels like he's the last one you'd expect to who would even care at all, let alone to actually ask. So maybe it's him trying to be diplomaticand trying to like, you know, because we've seen enough of him so far and it just doesn't feel like he would, in a million fucking years, give a shit what the hell it was, let alone to ask, right?Because even if he did, we've seen a couple times with him where he's been curious about something, he's not said anything, he just kind of looked curiously. Notated away, maybe I'll look
Speaker 31792.12s - 1795.32s
into that later. Yeah, so it's just very against character for him.
Speaker 41795.76s - 1807.92s
So I do think maybe it's him trying to build some kind of a bridge here and mend things a little bit, even with himself in the sheriff. Also, maybe he's speaking up because DePayvon Reynolds PERSON are probably too scared to say anything after the mess they've made.
Speaker 31808.08s - 1810.82s
Yeah. Or he doesn't want them to speak up. Yeah.
Speaker 01810.88s - 1815.42s
You know, once you get in front of authority, maybe only Jonas PERSON speaks for the big coffin hunters.
Speaker 31815.52s - 1817.58s
We know, one of those things where it's like, you know, like you two shut.
Speaker 01817.74s - 1819.58s
Same thing that Roland's going through with Cuthbert PERSON.
Speaker 31819.78s - 1820s
Yeah.
Speaker 01820.16s - 1826.56s
Maybe he's got Reynolds and DePap PERSON to train to, hey, we get in front of the sheriff or we get front of the mayor or anything like that.
Speaker 51826.6s - 1827.94s
You two shut the hell up.
Speaker 01828.04s - 1828.28s
Yeah.
Speaker 51828.92s - 1829.16s
Yeah.
Speaker 31829.32s - 1830.48s
That's probably about right.
Speaker 51830.58s - 1830.8s
Yeah.
Speaker 41832.54s - 1832.92s
So,
Speaker 31833.08s - 1834.9s
seems a pricey,
Speaker 41835.24s - 1838.76s
or it seems that a price to pay for witches cure seems a true axiom in any world.
Speaker 31839s - 1839.28s
Yeah.
Speaker 41839.46s - 1840.38s
Any world with witches.
Speaker 31840.68s - 1845.04s
It seems like kind of the monkey paw effect is kind of always the thing with witches.
Speaker 51845.04s - 1848.78s
I mean, it's not just witches. If you take this pill, you may have side effects, including
Speaker 41848.78s - 1850.5s
d-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-a-a-a-a-a-a-l leakage.
Speaker 31851.26s - 1851.84s
It's like, wait, what?
Speaker 41852.34s - 1854.08s
I mean, yeah. Right?
Speaker 31854.2s - 1855.6s
It's just modern-day witches, right?
Speaker 41855.76s - 1856.78s
That's what they are, right?
Speaker 31857.06s - 1857.92s
Pharmaceuticals.
Speaker 41859.8s - 1861.2s
I probably should have put this notes.
Speaker 31861.32s - 1865.2s
That reminds me of Roland when he's in our world in book two, isn't it?
Speaker 41865.48s - 1874.92s
When he's going to the pharmacy and he's just expecting like this like enchanted, like almost like a mystic. And he's like, this is it? What is this? Yeah.
Speaker 31875.42s - 1876.56s
Which I love the fish out of water.
Speaker 41876.66s - 1880.72s
It's when he gets the, uh, uh, it's during the third.
Speaker 31880.84s - 1881.58s
The poison door.
Speaker 41881.86s - 1883.26s
Yeah, the third door with Jack Mort PERSON.
Speaker 31883.32s - 1885.88s
Yeah. Yeah. But what were you going to say you didn't have a note?
Speaker 41886.12s - 1895.86s
No, I do have a note here. I probably should have moved this note sooner. I like the pause. King inserts when Avery PERSON says affiliations dot, dot, dot, dot, men, dot, dot, goes on.
Speaker 31896.02s - 1901.16s
Yeah. We got the mares men on one side and then the affiliations.
Speaker 41902.2s - 1905.38s
And you can just see how that would be shot on screen to you.
Speaker 31905.46s - 1910.68s
Because you look over and it, if they don't age them up in the Flanagan PERSON series, you know,
Speaker 41910.74s - 1919.02s
they'll be 14-year-old boys like that. Yeah. That's going to be a funny picture to... You're going to be looking at kids just a little bit younger, a little bit older than the losers are.
Speaker 31919.18s - 1919.38s
Yeah.
Speaker 51919.62s - 1921.3s
And someone calling them men.
Speaker 31921.48s - 1925.46s
Yeah. I get why he's acting that way, but it's still kind of funny to me that like,
Speaker 51925.7s - 1925.82s
ooh,
Speaker 31929.06s - 1929.14s
kind of a slap in the face to the affiliation guys, right?
Speaker 41930.48s - 1930.54s
Kind of like Captain America Civil War WORK_OF_ART.
Speaker 31931.52s - 1931.78s
He's like, what are you, a spider boy?
Speaker 41932.12s - 1933.62s
Yeah.
Speaker 31934.8s - 1935.16s
Because he's a high school kid.
Speaker 21935.42s - 1935.58s
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 41937.9s - 1937.98s
You know, like how did you get Spider-Man PERSON out of that?
Speaker 51939.34s - 1939.84s
You're a child, for God's sake.
Speaker 41941.54s - 1946.16s
And then again, my last note, I love the debate perking up at the word coups. He just couldn't help himself, could he?
Speaker 31946.62s - 1949.88s
It's, like, he has a very one-track mind.
Speaker 21950.24s - 1952.72s
And that falls right in there.
Speaker 41952.94s - 1954.58s
So it just, it cracks me up.
Speaker 01954.68s - 1955.64s
Yeah, we saw that at the bar.
Speaker 41957.08s - 1962.02s
It's like, you know, when you, like, you see those, like, videos or people are, like,
Speaker 31962.28s - 1968.74s
talking and they say something that could be kind of, that's what she like and you always see like the husband get that look on their face you know
Speaker 41968.74s - 1973.24s
you got the wife that kicks him under the table or like elbows them just like shut the
Speaker 31973.24s - 1979.32s
that's exactly what what it is um the way i see it there uh so avery said uh he will not spend the
Speaker 41979.32s - 1984.32s
next three or four months waiting to see who uh normally take the heat for a stupid fight over
Speaker 31984.32s - 1986s
a half which uhitch like Shimi PERSON.
Speaker 41986.52s - 1992.12s
He then says that he is appealing to their practical natures, as he points out that he can be
Speaker 31992.12s - 2074.8s
their friends or their enemies. He then tells Jonas PERSON he does not believe that he would want to cause trouble with the young men from the affiliation, which has been like mother's milk in a father's hands since 50 generations back. Jonas shook his head and smiled thinly. Avery PERSON asked the boys if he wanted to get in the way of doing their jobs, uh, and they all shook their heads. Uh, he, he then said that, um, in this, uh, or in thatcase, he wants them all to stand up, face each other, shake hands and cry each other's pardons. And if they don't, they can all ride out of town before sunrise, of all he cares. Uh, he took the mug and drank more. And Roland PERSON, uh Roland sees that his hand is trembling slightly, which is no surprise because it's all ultimately a bluff. The coffin hunters were obviously above his authority, and after tonight he probably figured the boys were as well.Roland and Jonas stood, and Avery PERSON recoiled expecting more trouble, but none came. Jonas PERSON said he was right and offered to shake hands and start over. Roland PERSON agreed, but they both apologized and shook hands. The younger members of both groups followed likewise. Roland was nervous when Cuthbert PERSON's turn arose because the paper was not one open to humor at the moment, but Burt PERSON made no jokes and had no laugh in his voice.Avery PERSON was happy and said he'd shake hands with them and send them on their way as it was late and he needed his beauty sleep. No one laughed at his joke. Yeah.
Speaker 52075.52s - 2076.96s
And that's the end of the subchapter.
Speaker 32077.88s - 2088.06s
So my notes here, I love Avery PERSON trying to play the play tough here. Quote, I can be your friend or your enemy. It's just so clear this dude is a soft coward and he's all talk.
Speaker 42088.5s - 2091.26s
And he knows that he doesn't have as much authority as the coffin hunters.
Speaker 32091.48s - 2099.18s
Yeah, exactly. Like very clearly, King PERSON even calls it out to point it out to us. Like, we know that he's down on the totem pole.
Speaker 42099.34s - 2102.52s
And it says that even after tonight he doesn't know if he has authority over the boys.
Speaker 32102.52s - 2107.62s
So it's really not even necessarily like the confident hunters know higher up people in the town.
Speaker 42107.7s - 2112.18s
And that's what puts him out of his authority. What puts them out of his authority is their ability.
Speaker 22112.5s - 2120.72s
And now with the boys showing their ability, ultimately it comes down to he really has no. All he has sway over is the weak and whatever.
Speaker 32120.9s - 2136.6s
Like he doesn't have any sway over any of these six. No, no. He's no Wyatt Earp PERSON. No. Let's say. Uh, him appealing to the confin hunters about the affiliation is funny because we asreaders have already seen that they are aligned with Farson PERSON, um, as is Avery Thorin and Reimer PERSON. Okay.
Speaker 42136.84s - 2139.3s
So we do know that Avery PERSON is aligned with them.
Speaker 32139.38s - 2139.64s
Yeah.
Speaker 42139.74s - 2139.98s
Okay.
Speaker 32140.1s - 2147.66s
Yeah. Sorry. It has been a minute since I've read the Dark Tower WORK_OF_ART series. Yeah. Especially this book. And it was one of those couple, uh couple episodes that you were not with us.
Speaker 42147.78s - 2163.82s
So, yeah, that was covered. There was a clandestine meeting after one of the events. I don't remember which one it was where they talked about what maybe it was after the party. It was in between the party and the Travelers Rest, I think. Okay. They meet together. They talked about it. Literally the episode right before I came back.
Speaker 32163.92s - 2168.26s
Yeah. So, yeah, that has been covered. Got it.
Speaker 42168.26s - 2173.54s
Got it. So it is funny that, you know, he's like, oh, you don't want to mess the affiliation, do you?
Speaker 32173.64s - 2182.3s
Yeah, which is why my note here, I think it's the empty threat that he, if they don't drop it and shake hands to ride out of town by sunrise, is so fascinating. Yeah.
Speaker 22182.4s - 2188.46s
Which was like, why would you make that if you were Avery PERSON? Like, imagine if Roland PERSON stood up and said, no, we can't let this go. They'd be surged our honor.
Speaker 32188.74s - 2190.56s
What would Avery PERSON do at that point?
Speaker 42190.64s - 2195.84s
You know, like, dude, that was, that was risky for Avery PERSON to take that on. Yeah.
Speaker 32196.02s - 2206.92s
I think that probably his badge does, you know, give him some leeway. Because ultimately, he has to say that, think of nothing else for appearances yeah um because
Speaker 52206.92s - 2217.02s
i don't know it's yeah i think that's ultimately when it comes down to his appearances you like he may be weak in some aspects but he can't appear weak or right or i don't mean he might even be self-deluding
Speaker 42217.02s - 2230.18s
himself ultimately where he thinks that i'm still the sheriff here or whatever so maybe one of the things that he's doing here is hoping to make a name for himself a little bit more. Yeah. Hey, I settled down the trouble between the coffin hunters and the affiliation boys. I mean, men.
Speaker 32230.82s - 2231.08s
Yeah.
Speaker 42231.7s - 2231.98s
Yeah.
Speaker 32232.38s - 2240.54s
It'd be interesting to see what their thought processes were at this moment. Do they understand we saw with some of the way that King PERSON wrote that this is going to be a legendary thing.
Speaker 02240.66s - 2259.66s
Yeah. That, you know, eventually there's going to be, you know, 50 times the amount of people in the bar allegedly. Yeah. And we're actually there and stuff. Everyone's going to claim to have kicked the gun away and like there's all this stuff. But it's like, I wonder in his perception right now, mere minutes after it happened, I wonder does he understand like that this is like a legend thing that's going to go on forever.
Speaker 42259.78s - 2264.9s
Do you think he does or do you think he's just? I think he's looking out for his own skin and that's all he cares about.
Speaker 32264.94s - 2270.62s
He's too drunk to think about that. Yeah. Yeah. Not to mention he's just i think he's looking out for his own skin and that's all he cares why he's too drunk to think about that yeah yeah not to mention he's not the brightest yeah overall
Speaker 42270.62s - 2287.38s
he's not the sharpest cue ball in the wrap exactly uh i also love that after um after all that uh after all that when they stand up he still thinks they're going to kill each other a dude can't read people very well as it is clear to us readers i believe that everyone going to agree with, to go along with what he's saying here.
Speaker 02287.78s - 2295.74s
I don't know that any of us necessarily believe that it's a truthful thing, but I think in this moment, they're all just going to shake hands. I don't know. There's enough,
Speaker 52295.86s - 2306.22s
I just reading the room myself, that's the way I read it. So for him to like recoil when they stand up, I'm like, dude, this guy is fucking clueless, man. It kind of goes with that I just said. He's not the smartest. Yep.
Speaker 42306.32s - 2309.24s
I love, and I also love Roland's constant tension over Bert PERSON's humor.
Speaker 52309.4s - 2311.3s
You imagine this is a lifelong burden for him.
Speaker 42311.3s - 2328.14s
And it really speaks to why he acts the way he does with Eddie PERSON. Yeah. He's dealt with one before. Yeah. And in those formative years. Like, you know, like that's just where a big impression is made on young Roland PERSON.It's going to stay, like you said, the impressionistic years and everything. It's going to stick with him for the rest of his life.
Speaker 32328.3s - 2329.68s
Yeah. Yeah, indeed.
Speaker 42330.48s - 2332.32s
So yeah, that's subchapter 8.
Speaker 32332.66s - 2334.44s
So let me start off with subchapter 9.
Speaker 42334.52s - 2335.54s
I'm just going to read the whole thing.
Speaker 32335.64s - 2337.16s
It's kind of long, so stick with me.
Speaker 42337.88s - 2344.74s
When they stepped outside, the moon was down, and the first lightning in the sky had begun to show at the far edge of the clean sea.
Speaker 32345.64s - 2347.7s
Mayhap will meet again, sigh, Jonas PERSON said. Mayhap we will, Roland said, and swung lightning in the sky had begun to show at the far edge of the clean sea. Mayhap will meet again, sigh, Jonas said.
Speaker 42347.96s - 2352.42s
Mayhap we will, Roland PERSON said, and swung up into the saddle. And that's the subchapter.
Speaker 32352.98s - 2354.88s
So, cue the showdown music.
Speaker 42355.4s - 2358.6s
Famous Stephen King, you know, 100-word subchapter.
Speaker 32359.32s - 2360.5s
He's really good at that.
Speaker 42361.58s - 2369.46s
The one I'll always remember is book two. There's one subchapter that all it says is something like, and it was no misfire.
Speaker 22369.9s - 2372.1s
I think that's it. That's the entire subchapter.
Speaker 52374.06s - 2375.7s
Oh, I love it. I love it.
Speaker 02376.64s - 2377.86s
Yeah. And then my note,
Speaker 52378.1s - 2380.06s
yeah, I feel like King PERSON doesn't even have to clue us in
Speaker 02380.06s - 2383.74s
of the subtext between these, of the words spoken here.
Speaker 42383.86s - 2388.26s
They're speaking the words, but like I just don't even think King PERSON has to point out to us that this is all bullshit.
Speaker 32388.96s - 2401.26s
Mayhap we'll meet again. Mayhap we will. Oh, that's not, that's not ominous in any way to say to someone who you just threaten to kill. Yeah, it's like the cop that tells the criminal, I'll catch you later. Yeah.
Speaker 42401.56s - 2402.24s
Type thing.
Speaker 32402.62s - 2409.2s
It's like, yeah, I know that's a normal turn of phrase, but when it's a cop saying that to a criminal, there's a little bit more to there.
Speaker 42409.2s - 2409.22s
Yeah.
Speaker 32409.58s - 2409.84s
There.
Speaker 42410.48s - 2410.88s
Yeah.
Speaker 32411s - 2415.4s
David says there's, I think there's another one in the second book where he's trying to convince Eddie PERSON that he's real.
Speaker 42415.74s - 2417.9s
It just says, he believes. That's it.
Speaker 32418.06s - 2419.28s
That's the whole subchapter.
Speaker 02419.54s - 2420.08s
That's true.
Speaker 32420.54s - 2430.78s
Yeah, King PERSON's good at it, man. I love it. You know what's funny, too, is like, I can't say that I read a shitload of fiction outside of King PERSON. But when I do, you don't see subchapters very often.
Speaker 02431.14s - 2432.26s
Like, you see chapters.
Speaker 22432.42s - 2432.68s
Yes.
Speaker 02433.36s - 2436.46s
And it's just interesting that King PERSON uses that multiple layers.
Speaker 52437.12s - 2442.42s
Because not only does he have subchapters and chapters, but then he also has the parts or the books or whatever it might be.
Speaker 02442.46s - 2460.52s
We've seen it throughout the series so far. And it's like that in a lot of King PERSON books. So it's just interesting to me because, I mean, I've read even before getting into King PERSON heavily when I was younger. I read, you know, novels. Like I do enjoy them. I enjoy fiction. But yeah, King PERSON's, I don't want to say it's entirely unique. There's by other people to use subchapters. But I feel like King PERSON always uses subchapters.
Speaker 42460.62s - 2475.2s
I feel like if he didn't use subchapters in something, that would be so notable because it'd be like, holy shit, he doesn't use subchapters. I think one of the ones that he doesn't use subchapters in. I could be wrong. It's been a minute since I've read the physical copy of it. I think Kerry doesn't, because it just bounces between the two timelines.
Speaker 32475.44s - 2480.58s
Yeah. So I think that he just kind of, I don't think he, dude, does he even have chapters in that book?
Speaker 42480.66s - 2488.16s
Plus also the novellas probably don't either. Those are probably just chapters as well. I don't know. It's been a while else I've read Carrie PERSON. I've actually been thinking about
Speaker 32488.16s - 2491.24s
that when we just touched on it in the last episode
Speaker 42491.24s - 2495.94s
which was a roundtable. The 50 year anniversary of Carrie PERSON just hit. Like that kind of
Speaker 52495.94s - 2500s
has it. That was a really cool looking hardcover. Yeah, it has me kind of like Jones PERSON into
Speaker 02500s - 2504.36s
go and read it again. It's been it's such a good book. It's been a number of years
Speaker 42504.36s - 2505.62s
since I have read it. So yeah, I might have to dive it because that's a fun one too. It's such a good book. It's been a number of years since I have read it.
Speaker 32505.78s - 2508.02s
So, yeah, I might have to dive in because that's a fun one too.
Speaker 42508.06s - 2510.46s
It is. Good old Carrie PERSON's mom.
Speaker 32513.76s - 2516.52s
I also was thinking about watching the new version again.
Speaker 42516.64s - 2519.36s
I think we discussed in that episode where people are asking about it and stuff.
Speaker 52520.12s - 2523.24s
Also, there was a subreddit where people are talking about something.
Speaker 42523.56s - 2525.08s
The Carrie PERSON adaptations came up. Somebody said, you know, or which one's the one to watch? And everyone, of course, is sayingdit where people were talking about something. The Carrie adaptations came up.
Speaker 52525.16s - 2527.76s
Somebody said, you know, or which one's the one to watch?
Speaker 02527.84s - 2542.8s
And everyone, of course, is saying, you know, the DiPama PRODUCT. But I'm like, you know, the DePama ORG one, of course, it is the better of them. I'm like, but Julianne Moore playing Carrie's mom in the second is worth the price of admission. And I had a couple different people comment going, wait, she's in it? Like, Kay PERSON, sold. I'm going to go watch that version now.
Speaker 42543.34s - 2556.66s
It was not, when it came out that was not the big advertising thing because the actress who played uh carry was a newer name and so they were pushing her really hard in the marketing and stuff i think she was kind of like a little bit
Speaker 32556.66s - 2560.66s
hot i think she'd just come off with some bigger something something yeah exactly that's what
Speaker 42560.66s - 2566.68s
that's what i was meaning it's like she just hit it and then she was going to do a horror film. So it's like a horror film, you know, Carrie PERSON.
Speaker 32567.1s - 2578.36s
And it's like, yeah, we're going to use her. We're going to push this. They weren't using Julianne Moore PERSON. Not much. And so, yeah, there's a couple different people that commented on. We're like, all right, I'll watch that version now, just if nothing else for her. And I'm like, you won't be sorry.
Speaker 42578.48s - 2583.32s
If that's what you're going in looking for is a good performance for Julianne Moore PERSON, guess what? Done.
Speaker 32583.46s - 2584.58s
Yeah, you're always going to get that.
Speaker 42584.74s - 2586.02s
All right. So subchapter 10.
Speaker 32586.32s - 2588s
Let's go jump on over here.
Speaker 42588.08s - 2589.34s
Hopefully it's not as long as nine.
Speaker 32591.94s - 2652.58s
Yeah, so subchap of 10 starts off. The coffin hunters were staying at the watchman's house about five miles out of town. Halfway there, Jonas PERSON stopped at a turnout or turnout beside the road. The land sharply dropped off to a rocky descent to the sea. He tells DePape PERSON to get down off his horse. DePate tries to argue, but Jonas PERSON told him again and he got down.Jonas then tells him to take off his glasses, and DePep PERSON again tries to ask what this is about. Jonas PERSON cuts him off and says if he leaves them on, or he can leave them on if he wants them broken. It's up to him. DePate PERSON bit his lip hard, but took off his glasses and they were barely off his, or barely in his his hand before Jonas punched him. De Pape PERSON cried and stumbled backwards towards the drop off and Jonas PERSON drove towards him and grabbed him just before he went over the edge. Jonas, and he's holding himby the shirt over the edge, Jonas PERSON tells him he should have, he should throw him over the edge, um, and asks if he knew how much harm he had done. DePate PERSON tries to answer babbling between he never meant to. It was all just a bit of fun. How are they supposed to know? Kind of just jumbling between all those things.
Speaker 52653.16s - 2655.48s
Jonas PERSON relaxed a bit because it is true.
Speaker 32655.64s - 2682.3s
How were they supposed to know? If not for tonight, how would they have known at all? And if you looked at it that way, DePate PERSON may have done them a favor. People would laugh, but that would not even be that bad because laughter would stop and do time. at all. And if you looked at it that way, DePate PERSON may have done them a favor. People would laugh, but that would not even be that bad because the laughter would stop in due time. DePate apologized to Jonas PERSON and tells him to shut up.And he was not going to toss him over because if he did, then he'd have to throw clay over and then himself over because the boys had gotten the drop on all of them.
Speaker 42682.46s - 2682.62s
Yeah.
Speaker 32683.02s - 2696.78s
So, yeah, this, I mean, even the first time I read this, this did not shock me in the least bit. No. You know, yeah, this, I knew this was coming. It's kind of that, you know, stricken dog that those two had that mentality of in that room.
Speaker 42696.78s - 2701.68s
Or it was just like, yeah. And then. Well, it's like I said, they knew they were going to get it later.
Speaker 32701.82s - 2702.08s
Yeah.
Speaker 42702.34s - 2706.98s
They knew. That's why they didn't speak up or say shit because they didn't want to make it worse for themselves.
Speaker 32707.08s - 2707.34s
Yeah.
Speaker 42707.46s - 2718.28s
Because Jonas PERSON is the kind of guy. Instead of punching him, he'd pull out his gun and put two in your head. Yeah. And then kick you over the cliff and be like, oh, he wrote out of town. He left.
Speaker 32718.48s - 2718.72s
Yeah.
Speaker 42718.88s - 2733.98s
He was too embarrassed. He wrote out. Yeah. And it's like, all right. Yeah. Jonas PERSON is telling the truth. They know this. They know who they're writing with. And I just, my first note here, I put this before any of your notes. Jonas PERSON starts off by not calling to pay by his name. Just says, get down mister.
Speaker 32734.32s - 2739.92s
Yeah. And that's where you know you're really, really in trouble. It's when they don't call you by your normal name.
Speaker 02740.04s - 2744.14s
He doesn't, you know, it's not when they call you, you know, by your first name.
Speaker 22744.14s - 2750.6s
It's the first and middle. It's what you, or you get the first, middle, and last name. That not when they call you, you know, by your first name. It's the first and middle. Or you get the first, middle and last name. That's when you're like, ah, shit, I'm dead.
Speaker 42752.08s - 2757.2s
Or son, boy, you know, something like that.
Speaker 32757.32s - 2759.26s
And this here, Jonas PERSON uses Mr.
Speaker 02759.34s - 2761.38s
It's like, dude, you know you fucked up.
Speaker 32761.44s - 2764.36s
Or you know it would be like even worse. And neither of us dealt with this.
Speaker 42764.42s - 2767.82s
But if you had a shortened version of your name, if you're Robert and you were Bobby PERSON. And then you fucked up. Or you know it would be like even worse, and neither of us dealt with this. But if you had a shortened version of your name, if your name was Robert and you were Bobby PERSON,
Speaker 32768.52s - 2769.46s
and then you heard Robert PERSON,
Speaker 42769.78s - 2782.18s
that would be like the middle name with just one word. I had a friend who had that, you know, a shortened name. And he always went by the short name. He went by Nate PERSON. But his full name was Nathaniel PERSON.Yeah.
Speaker 02782.3s - 2783.88s
So when you heard Nathaniel PERSON, it's like,
Speaker 32784s - 2810.64s
okay, I'm going home. Bye, dude. God be with you Nathaniel PERSON, it's like, okay, I'm going home, bye, dude. God PERSON be with you. And then David PERSON in the chat says, if you watch the first one, you hear John Travolta PERSON say get her done.Yeah. Yeah, John Travolta PERSON, that. I mean, and again, I would never argue that the new version is better than the De Palma PERSON classic. But I will say that it's at least worth a watch,I think, to everyone. And then David also said, Jonas PERSON is pretty fascinating dude. I kind of wish I knew a little bit more about his backstory.
Speaker 22810.98s - 2814.12s
Yeah, he's a very interesting character, for sure.
Speaker 42815.18s - 2819.56s
David also says a little bit above Kujo and Dolores Claybourne PERSON don't have chapters at all.
Speaker 32819.86s - 2820.38s
Oh, okay.
Speaker 42821s - 2821.88s
Yeah, I missed that one.
Speaker 32821.98s - 2822.12s
Thanks.
Speaker 42822.24s - 2822.86s
Glad you caught that.
Speaker 32824.02s - 2827.2s
Sometimes when there's multiple chats, it's easy to overlook one. But yeah, that. Interesting. Yeah, I missed that one. Thanks. Glad you caught that. Sometimes when there's like multiple chats, it's easy to overlook one.
Speaker 42827.26s - 2828.26s
But yeah, that's awesome.
Speaker 32829.4s - 2842.38s
Kujo ORG's on my list. That's been on my, and honestly, I might have to get that one quick because Rattlesnake is going to be here coming out in about a month. Yeah. So a little less than a month now because we're now on the 27th of April.
Speaker 22842.68s - 2845.72s
So it comes out in May, right? It's like May 24th or something like that.
Speaker 42845.8s - 2852.28s
So yeah, it's less than a month away now. So maybe I won't have time to reread Coojo PERSON before that. But either way.
Speaker 32852.42s - 2853.2s
It's not that long.
Speaker 42853.66s - 2854.84s
No, it's not.
Speaker 32854.92s - 2856.1s
I know it'll traumatize you.
Speaker 42856.1s - 2858.4s
Dolores Claiborne is also one I've never read.
Speaker 32859.04s - 2861.72s
But I know that Kathy Bates PERSON is an adaptation.
Speaker 42862.52s - 2865.16s
Dolores Claybourne and Gerald's game need to be read together.
Speaker 32865.48s - 2865.82s
Oh, yeah?
Speaker 42866.06s - 2866.22s
Yeah.
Speaker 32866.66s - 2867.44s
That's good to know.
Speaker 42867.58s - 2867.7s
Yeah.
Speaker 32868.04s - 2871.68s
So my notes here, Jonas PERSON had to have picked this spot in particular, right?
Speaker 42872s - 2875.96s
Like, it's far enough away that no one's going to, no one's, they're not going to have anyone watching.
Speaker 32876.36s - 2880.78s
But it's also this spot that has this threat, this cliff for him to threaten with.
Speaker 42881.08s - 2882.68s
It feels this is all very thought out.
Speaker 32882.76s - 2885.08s
This isn't just like a random like, okay, we're just far enough away.
Speaker 42885.42s - 2886.92s
Oh, look, this turnout happens to have a clip.
Speaker 02887.04s - 2888.48s
No, he fucking needs this spot.
Speaker 42888.48s - 2891.44s
He's like, okay, I know where we're stopping just so I can spank the children.
Speaker 32891.56s - 2897.98s
Yeah, like when they're in that goddamn town hall center, like he in his head, he was picking that spot, right?
Speaker 42898.42s - 2899.16s
You know what?
Speaker 32899.36s - 2902.34s
It would not surprise me if they've stopped here before. Yeah.
Speaker 42903.2s - 2906.78s
It's just halfway between where they, you know, they're staying and everything like that.
Speaker 32907.02s - 2911s
If one of them fucked up or something, I could totally see Jonas PERSON just stopping here and just,
Speaker 42911.22s - 2912.78s
what are you doing?
Speaker 32913s - 2913.22s
Yeah.
Speaker 42913.66s - 2913.94s
Yeah.
Speaker 32914.58s - 2919.76s
And then my next note, the classic telling a sport to take off their glasses.
Speaker 42920.12s - 2920.28s
Yeah.
Speaker 32920.46s - 2921.94s
That's never going to, that never goes well.
Speaker 42922.4s - 2922.78s
Oh, no.
Speaker 32923.08s - 2923.66s
No, no, no.
Speaker 42923.66s - 2933.96s
And then my next note, uh-oh, Jonas PERSON, seeing this is a good thing because now they know what the boys are capable of suddenly throws cold water on me as a reader.
Speaker 32934.44s - 2954.52s
I remember being happy that, you know, they got the better of them. They had saved sheamy, all this kind of stuff. But this was the cold water moment. I remember the first time reading it where it's like, oh, fuck, they just exposed themselves. Like, you know, now these coffin hunters know, uh, at least in part what these kids are capable of. So I remember that being kind of a bummer for me, um, the first time
Speaker 22954.52s - 2958.32s
reading. Uh, I was all, I was all happy about it, but ultimately now they're going to be,
Speaker 32958.48s - 2963.14s
they're never going to underestimate the boys again. That's not good. Yeah. No, it's not.
Speaker 42963.18s - 2966.28s
Especially because we've already seen there's a larger conspiracy afoot.
Speaker 32966.28s - 2971.9s
So you've now just, you've now given away the one bit of like upper hand you actually
Speaker 42971.9s - 2976.06s
had was the fact that you were, could have been anonymous as long as you needed to.
Speaker 32976.14s - 2977.42s
We've just given that all away now.
Speaker 42977.78s - 2978.76s
And for nothing, really.
Speaker 02978.92s - 2981.12s
I mean, ultimately it is in the law.
Speaker 42981.16s - 2988.82s
I mean, again, not that they know, but we kind of understand there's something bigger going on here um so it's just like fuck you just expose yourself at the wrong time right
Speaker 02988.82s - 2991.76s
it's like in sports you have like a really killer play well you don't want to fucking use it in
Speaker 42991.76s - 2996.2s
the first quarter of the first yeah on the third play of the game of the first game of the year
Speaker 32996.2s - 3005.58s
like no uh that's just not that's not how it works you want to save sometimes you have the ace of spade in your sleeve yep um and then good to see jonas taking some blame for getting bested as well that That's my last note.
Speaker 43005.68s - 3019.28s
Yeah. I was trying to decide where to put my note because it kind of goes with your last two notes. It is also building concern that Jonas PERSON isn't one of those high and mighty bad guys that are so dumb that they're just easily going to be bested.
Speaker 33019.48s - 3019.72s
Yeah.
Speaker 03019.82s - 3022.88s
They're going to take, oh, their boys, I'm going to take them for granted.
Speaker 33023.1s - 3026.84s
I don't have to worry about them. No, he recognizes them as a threat.
Speaker 53026.84s - 3028.88s
He says it, he says it right here.
Speaker 33029.6s - 3037.68s
But, you know, he did us a favor by helping us realize what these men really are.
Speaker 43038.08s - 3038.34s
Yeah.
Speaker 53038.44s - 3042.96s
You know, like, and that's where you're like, oh, shit, he's a crafty motherfucker.
Speaker 43043.36s - 3043.66s
Yeah.
Speaker 53043.82s - 3044.3s
Oh.
Speaker 43044.9s - 3045.14s
Yeah. And. Yeah.
Speaker 33045.3s - 3049.78s
And we have three 14-year-olds that have to go against him.
Speaker 43049.84s - 3050.16s
Yeah.
Speaker 33050.68s - 3051.78s
Like, oh, that's not good.
Speaker 43051.88s - 3053.28s
No, that's definitely not good.
Speaker 33053.36s - 3053.56s
Yeah.
Speaker 43055.2s - 3060.58s
And then Dave in the chat said, I recommend listening to the audio version because the whole book is written in a strong dialect.
Speaker 33061.68s - 3064.18s
And then you asked which one.
Speaker 43064.18s - 3065.62s
Yeah, I'm trying to clarify which book.
Speaker 33065.82s - 3069.84s
Because Dolores Claiborne or Kujo ORG, I don't remember
Speaker 43069.84s - 3071.64s
Dolores Claybourne PERSON with a strong dialect.
Speaker 33072.1s - 3073.38s
So that's why I'm, might be Kujo ORG.
Speaker 43073.52s - 3076.42s
Yeah. Because I've only read Kujo ORG. I've never listened to Kudjo PERSON.
Speaker 23076.66s - 3077.34s
I don't think I have either.
Speaker 43077.34s - 3082.48s
I read Kudu ORG when I was like I was, I don't know, 17, 16, something like that.
Speaker 23082.54s - 3116.24s
It's been a long time. Very, very long time. So then jumping into the next section of year, Jonas tells Clay PERSON to come down off his horse. And he does, and they all hunker down. Jonas PERSON recaps what they were made to believe about the boys and asked if either of them still believe that. And neither of them did.And that's just ultimately I kind of skipped over recapping it. But it's the whole premise of what we talked about early on, right? Their cover story is they're coming here to do a chore or whatever. Everyone's going to infer from that that, oh, they did some bad shit. Now this is their makeup for whatever.
Speaker 43116.56s - 3124.16s
That's ultimately their grand cover story. And he kind of recaps that, but then says either you still believe it. They both say no.
Speaker 33124.6s - 3157.64s
DePay said that they may be rich boys, but that's not all they were tonight. They acted like, and they trailed off, not wanting to finish the thought. Jonas PERSON finished his thought, though, and he says they acted like gunslingers. After a pause, Clay PERSON responded that they are too young, too young by years. Jonas says not too young to be apprentices, and then turned to DePape PERSON and said that he had writing to do. And he tried to argue, but Jonah said none of them covered themselves in glory that night, but he was the one that started it all. He then tells him that he was, then tells him he's going to ride their back trail and ask questions
Speaker 03157.64s - 3203.28s
until they get the answers that he thinks will satisfy Jonas PERSON's curiosity. He then says that he and Clay PERSON will wait and watch play castles. And when he thinks they can snoop without triggering something, they will. He asks if they knew why he shook hands with Dearborn PERSON because they can't rock the boat, not with the edging towards the harbor. Latigo PERSON and his men have been waiting, or Latigo and the men they had been waitingfor will be moving towards them soon. And when they get to this area, they need to keep, or they need to keep their peace base until they get to this area. But then he does say that no one puts a knife to Elder Jonas PERSON's back and lives. And he tells Roy PERSON to listen, but we are not privy to then the next bit that he lays out to him, which I don't like that.
Speaker 43204.68s - 3216.28s
David clarifies he was talking about Dolores Claiborne. Written is written and dialects. So I would recommend the audio version, which is, yeah. So I listen to the audio version. So that's why I didn't have any issues.
Speaker 33216.42s - 3227.4s
Oh, okay. Okay. Yeah, you know, I will say that kind of stuff annoys me. And I get it, but like stuttering Bill PERSON and it drives me fucking insane.
Speaker 43227.9s - 3229.86s
When you're trying to read the physical?
Speaker 33230.16s - 3240.36s
No, no, the audio is worse for me. Because when I'm reading, I just skip and say, okay, that's what he's saying and I move on. But in the book, it just, or the audio book, and she keeps going and going. And I'm like, my God, man, get on with this.
Speaker 03241.86s - 3242.92s
But I get it, though.
Speaker 53242.98s - 3246.42s
Sometimes something is written in a way that it's kind of hard to discern when it's
Speaker 03246.42s - 3260.98s
on paper. But then if you listen to it, it's like, oh, okay, I kind of catch what's the flow of it or whatever. So the age of the boys is enough to wave off a lot of suspicion in regards to being gunslingers. But there is a suspicion now at least.
Speaker 23261.72s - 3267.16s
And it is, yeah. And he says they may not be old not be gunslingers, but maybe old not be gunslinger apprentices, which we know that Roland PERSON is.
Speaker 53267.52s - 3270.66s
You're like, oh, shit, he figured it out. Yeah, so it's like, oh, man, well,
Speaker 33270.7s - 3273.48s
they don't even have that fully unknown anymore.
Speaker 03273.7s - 3275.14s
I mean, there's at least suspicion on it now.
Speaker 23275.84s - 3279.38s
So Roy PERSON is going to be riding the boy's trail and finding out as much as he can.
Speaker 03279.38s - 3283.14s
That makes me nervous because we did not see their trip coming here.
Speaker 33283.22s - 3290.72s
So we don't know what they may or may not have said to the people along the trail. And if Roy PERSON, you know, and what Roy might find, if anything.
Speaker 03290.92s - 3292.48s
So that makes me really nervous as a reader.
Speaker 53292.56s - 3293.76s
I remember being like, like, wait, what?
Speaker 03294.46s - 3295.54s
No, I don't like that.
Speaker 23296.46s - 3299.48s
I'd feel better if we had actually read that journey, right?
Speaker 03299.6s - 3302.7s
Like, because then I'd be like, oh, well, I kind of know what they didn't, didn't say.
Speaker 23302.7s - 3310.82s
Like, well, if they did say something to the wrong person, like, well, as long as they don't talk to this guy, we're okay. Like, you know, but to not have any of that, it makes me just kind of like, ew.
Speaker 43311.1s - 3313.22s
Yeah, you don't see that scene, so you don't know what's going to happen.
Speaker 33313.4s - 3315.32s
Yeah, it's like, I don't know what he might find.
Speaker 43315.54s - 3316.26s
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 33316.68s - 3321.74s
And that's where my note comes in is, King's doing a great job of making these confoundters, especially Jonas PERSON, very menacing.
Speaker 43321.98s - 3322.28s
Yeah.
Speaker 33322.88s - 3336.88s
Yeah, indeed. Yeah, they're, I mean, honestly, I can't necessarily say that they even, they're necessarily stand out from. Yeah, indeed. Yeah, they're... I mean, honestly, I can't necessarily say that they even... They're necessarily stand out from the series because this series has done a really good job up to this point of... I don't think any of the villains that we've really ran into have been like,ah, they're not a big deal.
Speaker 03337.18s - 3337.32s
Yeah.
Speaker 43337.32s - 3341.16s
I tell you every time that we've kind of run into someone that was an adversary, it's been like...
Speaker 03341.16s - 3341.68s
Oh, shit.
Speaker 33341.74s - 3363.3s
Yeah, there's been some stress involved. So... You get to the TikTok man or Blaine PERSON and you're just like, uh-oh. Yeah, it's just there, yeah, there's enough behind them where it's like, there's never a time where it just feels like, oh, this is just like kind of a minor villain. They'll be able to just get right past real easy.Like, no, it's always been. I mean, even like gashers, one that you may have wanted to underestimate, but then he gets them by the balls.
Speaker 43363.46s - 3370s
It's like, there's like, he kind of wins that whole exchange initially. So it's like, and Roland PERSON had to bow and just like, yep, he got us.
Speaker 33370.28s - 3379.84s
Yeah, and it's like, oh, God damn it. So King PERSON's done a good job with this series so far. There isn't a lot of piss poor villains, but here's another set of very, very good adversaries
Speaker 03379.84s - 3381.22s
that were kind of worried about.
Speaker 53382.38s - 3383.74s
Then my next note, and at some point,
Speaker 03383.82s - 3385.8s
Farson PERSON's men will be moving in this direction.
Speaker 33386.06s - 3389.7s
And when they get here, the boys are going to be in for a real pile of shit, it seems like.
Speaker 53390s - 3405.98s
He's basically saying we've got to hold Pat until Latigo PERSON has been, because they're going to be coming this direction soon. So it's like that also tells us that whatever plan is afoot is sooner than later. And, you know, it doesn't sound like it's going to be after the boys are planned to leave. So this is all going to come to a head, which as a, from a stepping outside of it, it's like it's going to be after the boys are planned to leave. So this is all going to come to a head.
Speaker 03406.34s - 3440.06s
Which as a, from a stepping outside of it, it's like it very well better. This is a book. I want good shit to happen. But at the same time, as one that cares to these characters, I'm like, we've talked about it. I'm thinking on the last episode, we don't know where, like, Atlantic Cuthbert PRODUCT end up. Like, they could very well die in this story.Yeah. Like, we know that every, this is the furthest along the line that we've seen these characters. We haven't, it's not like a spoiler where we've seen like, oh, no, we saw like this in book one, it flashed back to 10 years beyond this and Cupert PERSON's still there. So he's safe. No, like he's, he's in danger. Roland PERSON's the only one that's really not.
Speaker 43440.24s - 3446.68s
So, um, I don't know. It's getting me nervous here. I don't know. We've had other characters introduced to us that we care about.
Speaker 33447.14s - 3448.72s
It's not just Bert and a Land PERSON either.
Speaker 43448.98s - 3452.94s
It's, well, what's going to happen with Susan PERSON and everything going forward?
Speaker 33453.18s - 3457.48s
Yeah. Because we got introduced to Herb with the ride with Roland PERSON and everything back from the coups.
Speaker 43457.48s - 3460.6s
And it's like, well, what's going to happen here with them?
Speaker 33460.84s - 3462.88s
And not to mention Rio PRODUCT, which we all love so much.
Speaker 43462.88s - 3464.4s
No. No. No.
Speaker 33466.02s - 3469.88s
I love it when, like, the reaction on your face, it's almost like I punched you.
Speaker 43470.26s - 3470.7s
It is.
Speaker 53471.24s - 3472.24s
I love, just punch me.
Speaker 43472.46s - 3474.42s
I love what I get those reactions out of you.
Speaker 33474.48s - 3475.1s
You're the worst.
Speaker 53475.8s - 3476.66s
Hashtag Ted is terrible.
Speaker 43476.66s - 3480.4s
Oh, my last note here, it always makes me nervous when the enemies conspire,
Speaker 53480.56s - 3483.22s
whether it be in a book or a movie or a TV show, whatever.
Speaker 43483.56s - 3485.22s
And we as the viewers are
Speaker 33485.22s - 3486.42s
left out of what they're saying.
Speaker 43486.48s - 3486.68s
Yeah.
Speaker 33486.86s - 3487.44s
Because there's two.
Speaker 43487.6s - 3489.06s
All right, listen, men, this is the plan.
Speaker 33489.16s - 3502.6s
Sometimes you hear that when it's heroes and sometimes you hear it's villains. A lot of times when it's heroes, it's kind of good because it's like whatever they're planning you're going to see unfold. And it's better to not know. It's better to watch this beautiful plan unfold. Yep.But when it's the bad guys, it's like, uh-oh.
Speaker 23502.96s - 3503.98s
This isn't good.
Speaker 43504.1s - 3505.14s
Like, please tell me.
Speaker 23505.68s - 3508.34s
Like, I don't want to be in the dark right now.
Speaker 43508.46s - 3510.2s
No. Let me know what's going on.
Speaker 13510.2s - 3518.82s
So that makes me nervous that there, he's like, all right, listen up. And then we kind of, the way King PERSON writes, it's almost like you're fading out, you don't hear them anymore. It's like, God damn it.
Speaker 33519.2s - 3524.5s
Or this would be one of those instances where the camera starts to pan back and it's the waves crashing.
Speaker 13525.52s - 3525.76s
Yeah. Drowns out's the waves crashing. Yeah.
Speaker 43526s - 3527.2s
Drowns out their voices.
Speaker 33527.48s - 3527.84s
Yeah.
Speaker 53527.98s - 3528.36s
Yeah.
Speaker 33529.08s - 3556.7s
So that puts us in subchapter 11, which we get to see the Roland and Alan and Kuthbert get back to the bar Kews FAC where they're staying. And it isn't until they're almost back. The Qthbert breaks the silence saying that he is, it was an amusing and instructive evening, was it not? When neither Roland nor Alain PERSON replies, he leans over and talks to the rook skull on his saddle and asks if he enjoyed its evening. Dinner, a circle dance, and almost getting killed on top of it all.
Speaker 43557.56s - 3616.54s
Lookout, of course, doesn't respond. Cuthbert PERSON says that the rook is too tired to talk, and as a matter of fact, he is too. Then he turns to Roland PERSON and says, he got a good look at Jonas's eyes after he shook hands with him and he meant to kill roland roland nods still doesn't say anything a land says they uh mean to kill them all roland says they will make it hard for jonas but they know more about them now than when they they did at dinner he stops just as j had, not three miles away, but instead of looking out over the cleansea, they were looking over the drop. Roland is looking over at a herd moving on the drop when Alan PERSON asks what he sees. And then I quote from the book, Trouble, Roland PERSON said, and in our road. Then he gigged his horse and rode on. Before they got back to the Bar Cape Bunk FAC, before they got back to the bar cape bunk uh before they got back to the barque bunk house he was thinking about susan again five minutes after he dropped his head on the flatburlap pillow he was dreaming of her and that's the end of the subchapter just that quick little bit
Speaker 23616.54s - 3631.5s
with them no chastising from roland for to cuthbert for getting them into the mess or anything like that yeah just he knows it's interesting to see Roll PERSON. I actually didn't take note of this, but it's interesting to see that Roland PERSON knows that they know more about them now.
Speaker 33631.68s - 3640.5s
Yeah. So kind of like, oh, okay, Roland PERSON's smart enough that he figured that out. But my first note here, after all that, he starts thinking and dreaming about her instantly.Yeah.
Speaker 43640.82s - 3642.68s
Like even after the fight that they had,
Speaker 33642.68s - 3645.74s
like the harsh words that he said to her at the dance.
Speaker 43646.5s - 3651.74s
Yeah, let's not lose side of that after all this brouhaha at the Traveler's Rest FAC.
Speaker 33651.74s - 3652.86s
Roland PERSON was thinking about it.
Speaker 43652.9s - 3659.62s
That's why he wasn't at the Traveler's Rest with Burton Alan PERSON. He had to go off by himself to think about how he had treated her.
Speaker 33660.04s - 3672.7s
Yeah, yeah, indeed. So my note, Cuthbert PERSON and the lookout never ceases to crack me up. Also, it's interesting to see this side of the scuttle, but they also found it informative as well.
Speaker 23673.36s - 3677.68s
So it's just you're seeing both sides of it after it all went down.
Speaker 03677.88s - 3686.16s
So pretty great there. Also, interesting that despite his humor, he notices, he noticed the look of Jonas PERSON's eyes and knows his intentions. Yep.
Speaker 53686.32s - 3690.34s
So Cuthbert PERSON is not a, he's not an observant.
Speaker 03690.64s - 3697.7s
He's able to, he's able to observe as well as Roland PERSON maybe that he saw it there. Because Roland PERSON would have seen it direct, right?
Speaker 53697.74s - 3698.6s
It would have been looking at him.
Speaker 03698.84s - 3708.78s
When you got Cuthbert PERSON standing off to the side or, you know, wherever it might be and still to see that and kind of see the intention, I think it shows that like, he's a sharp kid.
Speaker 33708.78s - 3713.88s
It is pretty fascinating when people just write off a character because they're a loud mouth.
Speaker 43714.44s - 3715.9s
Loud mouths can be observant too.
Speaker 03716.18s - 3716.38s
Yeah.
Speaker 33716.52s - 3718.12s
You know, and he sees things.
Speaker 03718.26s - 3723.6s
We've seen that with him calling Roland on his shit in book three, I think it is.
Speaker 33723.9s - 3725.4s
You know, stop holding our hands, you know.
Speaker 03725.62s - 3729.84s
Yeah. We're going with you. Stop leading us around by the nose. It's kind of that little speech that he gives him.
Speaker 33730.04s - 3737.68s
Oh, yeah, it's right before they get to toll and everything. Blood. I mean, Ludd GPE. Yeah, thank you. Wouldn't want Eddie PERSON there.
Speaker 43737.8s - 3742.48s
No. I don't think he'd be very happy about how that went. Probably not.
Speaker 33743.22s - 3749.22s
So far, we've yet to see Eddie PERSON once be involved with killing that doesn't affect him in some way emotionally.
Speaker 43749.64s - 3752.82s
So massacring a whole town, that would have not been great.
Speaker 23752.82s - 3753.22s
Nope.
Speaker 43754.68s - 3759.06s
I do like the fact that Bert PERSON is too tired to talk, but yet he's the only one yammering on.
Speaker 33759.26s - 3761.72s
Yeah. That's Bert PERSON for you. Sounds about right.
Speaker 43761.82s - 3774.42s
Yeah. I almost wonder if he's kind of one of those kinds that, when he's tired, he just talks more. Yo. It's concerning when I get quiet. And then my last one,
Speaker 33774.46s - 3785.06s
love the connection to the young and older Roland with the trouble and in our road. Honestly, with something like that, I just don't expect, like that feels like an,like an idiom, like some sort of saying. And I just don't know that a 14 year old would come up with that. So I'm assuming he's probably Like that feels like an like an like an like an idiom like some sort of saying.
Speaker 03785.58s - 3787.9s
And I just don't know that a 14 year old would come up with that.
Speaker 23787.96s - 3789.76s
So I'm assuming he's probably heard that from someone else.
Speaker 03790.12s - 3799.34s
And the fact that it sticks with him all the way until you know, we heard it earlier in this book. Looking ahead on the interstate. The big glass glass palace.
Speaker 43799.48s - 3799.66s
Yeah.
Speaker 33799.76s - 3805.56s
So for him to still say it so far in the future just makes me wonder, is this like something that dad or court said that...
Speaker 43805.56s - 3807.94s
He picked it up from someone. Yeah, he picked it up from someone.
Speaker 03808.2s - 3811.04s
Probably someone that he respected and thought highly of.
Speaker 43811.44s - 3819.98s
And here he is still saying it all those years later that here he is saying it was a 14-year-old. It's kind of a fun little thing to see it at both ages.
Speaker 23822.44s - 3823.22s
Let's see.
Speaker 33824.36s - 3857.38s
Oh, yeah, that's true. Brockie says Roland specifically asked Bert PERSON to observe at the party. So maybe he's even more observant than Roland PERSON is. Oh, yeah. Forgot about that. Good call. And then let's see. David mentions, yeah, we do know that there's been a couple mentions of Jericho Hill LOC so far in previous books. And it says so maybe we don't have, maybe not as much as unknown about this book as we thought. Oh, okay. Which, yeah, that's, I, it's funny, though, because there's also mentions that we've had of Susan throughout the last three books.
Speaker 03857.94s - 3860.52s
But it's still, it's like, I don't know. It's interesting.
Speaker 33862.16s - 3866.78s
And then David PERSON said, I know they call John Farson the Goodman, but all I hear is John Goodman PERSON.
Speaker 03867.3s - 3870.86s
So there we go. If we get John Farson, it should be John Goodman PERSON. Should.
Speaker 33872.22s - 3879.22s
I mean, of course, I am of the belief that Farson and Flag PERSON are the same person, but I do know the flag also can change shapes. It's true.
Speaker 43879.3s - 3909.06s
Appears different people. And then talking about, Dolores Claiborne's written in a dialect, so I would recommend the audio version. I powered through it, but I had a friend in college who stuttered, and you kind of have to power through it in real life too.And that's true. That is certainly true. And again, and that's probably more to me bitched about, you know, listening to the audio book of it, where I'm just like, oh my God.Yeah, I totally get it. I know it's a real thing. Does that really rub you the wrong way? It just, like bother, not rub you the wrong way, but it does it really bother you? Yeah, it gets on me. Really?
Speaker 33909.18s - 3918.04s
I enjoy it because it's such a good performance by Stephen Weber PERSON. No, it certainly is. But it's just like, I don't know, it's like the Monty Python WORK_OF_ART. Get on with it.
Speaker 43919.92s - 3922.1s
You would not have been Suttering Bill's PERSON friend, would you?
Speaker 33923.36s - 3924.6s
I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 43924.78s - 3925.92s
That's tough to say. I don't think you would have? I mean, I don't know. That's tough to say.
Speaker 33926.14s - 3926.9s
I don't think you would have.
Speaker 43927.24s - 3930.52s
I was, I got around quite a bit in elementary school.
Speaker 33930.64s - 3931.9s
I was friends with a lot of different groups.
Speaker 43931.96s - 3933.64s
I mean, I was that way in high school, too.
Speaker 33933.72s - 3938.68s
I was friends with like, I felt like I was kind of a chameleon that was able to float amongst all different groups.
Speaker 43938.68s - 3940.36s
Except for the religious ones for some reason.
Speaker 33940.5s - 3943.76s
It's like they stayed away from the demon that you are.
Speaker 43945.82s - 3950.8s
Oh, man. That's true. That's true. Especially growing up in Utah GPE. There's a lot of them.
Speaker 33952.72s - 3956.1s
Indeed. And then Alan popped in. Hile Allen PERSON. Welcome.
Speaker 03957.76s - 3963.3s
So yeah, now we are jumping over to chapter seven. So chapter six is in the books. Chapter
Speaker 33963.3s - 3965.26s
seven is titled on the drop.
Speaker 43966.68s - 3971.26s
And let's see, jumping on into subchapter 1 of chapter 7.
Speaker 33971.26s - 3974.44s
We got three subchapters to cover for this section.
Speaker 43975.06s - 3977.5s
So let's go ahead and dive on in.
Speaker 33977.9s - 3982.24s
So three weeks had passed since the welcome dinner and the showdown afterwards.
Speaker 43982.4s - 3984.86s
There had been no trouble between the boys and the coffin hunters.
Speaker 33985.38s - 4010.04s
The kissing moon had become the peddlers moon. Susan PERSON rode pylon across the drop and drove him faster and faster. She barely saw the scenery around her as she was just focused on the thunder of pylon's hooves. She wanted to outrun her own thoughts, all because she had come downstairs this morning, dressed to ride in one of her father's old shirts. So we got a little bit of a Stephen King aspect there that we're getting a tease a little bit here.Because we're basically starting at the later point.
Speaker 44010.14s - 4015.52s
And then it seems like most likely we're going to rewind to what happened. Classic king. Classic king. Indeed.
Speaker 34016.24s - 4022.8s
So my note time is progressing. But nothing has transpired amongst the two groups after three weeks.
Speaker 24022.86s - 4028.66s
So that's probably good. That means that there wasn't any, you know, sometimes after like a big blowup like that,
Speaker 04028.74s - 4040.8s
both sides might have so much steam that all it takes is a smallest little thing to set them both off again. So the fact that you're three weeks in, I think that gives them all time to like catch their breath and, I don't know, be strategic about it.
Speaker 44040.9s - 4049.22s
Yeah. My note here is I love the names that they give them the moons. Pedlar's Moon LOC, Kissing Moon, Demon Moon, all those different ones.
Speaker 04049.48s - 4054.28s
I don't know if that's what they actually were called back like in the olden days in our world and everything.
Speaker 34054.52s - 4056.22s
I don't know the phases of the moon.
Speaker 04056.58s - 4067.78s
Aside from like full half new. Yeah. That's what I know them as. So if that's what the real names are, you know, from olden times, cool. If not, I love the King PERSON came up with them.
Speaker 34067.94s - 4073.62s
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it would be interesting. I wonder what other cultures, if they had, like, names for the different phase of them.
Speaker 44073.72s - 4074.82s
That's an interesting question.
Speaker 34076.56s - 4088.2s
So Susan is writing with some emotion here, and King is putting the after part first here. And it seems like we always love it when he does that. Yeah. And that's it. This is a very short, short subchapter.
Speaker 44088.2s - 4091.98s
I got one. You got one. It's perfectly balanced as all things should be.
Speaker 34092.04s - 4092.7s
Yeah. Indeed.
Speaker 44092.84s - 4098.6s
It was a short one. So jump on over to subchapter two. This is going to be a little bit of a longer subchapter.
Speaker 34098.9s - 4106.04s
And then in the chat, Davidson PERSON, it's definitely difficult to listen through. But I figured if it happens in real life, I might as well listen through it. And it's true.
Speaker 44106.14s - 4109.22s
And honestly, it hasn't stopped me from listening through it.
Speaker 24109.72s - 4113.16s
Apparently it did because you didn't listen to it for like 15 years.
Speaker 44113.4s - 4114.32s
Oh, none of that now.
Speaker 34114.44s - 4115.32s
Not that long.
Speaker 44116.02s - 4116.84s
How long was it?
Speaker 34116.9s - 4117.86s
Close to 10, maybe.
Speaker 44118.44s - 4118.76s
Maybe.
Speaker 34119.06s - 4119.72s
Oh, I'm sorry.
Speaker 44119.88s - 4121.06s
I exaggerated so far.
Speaker 34122.28s - 4124.34s
Yeah, it's kind of like freaking under the dome.
Speaker 44124.78s - 4126.26s
I've actually never listened to that
Speaker 34126.26s - 4127.08s
that one.
Speaker 44127.16s - 4128.54s
I noticed that not too long ago.
Speaker 34129.02s - 4130.56s
I remember buying it on hardcover and shit
Speaker 44130.56s - 4133.38s
and I breeze through that book pretty quick. I was like, I couldn't put it down.
Speaker 54133.44s - 4139.76s
Yeah. But I was looking through my stuff and I'm like, I don't have under the dome. I'm like, honestly, I'm like, I started to think about it.I'm like, yeah, I have never listened to that story.
Speaker 44139.8s - 4144.44s
I've only ever read it. So that one has been out for a long time. Long time. What is that?
Speaker 34144.52s - 4149.58s
Like 2010. Let me pull it up. I have the list up anyway. Um, under the dome. 2009.
Speaker 44151.7s - 4156.92s
So that has been a hot minute. Dude, we're getting close to some of these books being out for 20 years.
Speaker 34157.12s - 4162.26s
That's, that's crazy, dude. Yeah, I was, that reminds me of another Reddit discussion. There was someone
Speaker 44162.26s - 4166.4s
that's title was, uh, King recommendations It was the Steaming King ORG subreddit.
Speaker 34166.9s - 4170.82s
And his first thing is he's like, oh, yeah, I read King PERSON when I was a kid a bit,
Speaker 44170.9s - 4172.36s
but I've really fallen off over the years.
Speaker 34172.44s - 4179.38s
I'm kind of just feeling like jumping back in. He's like, you know, what are some good ones to read? I'm like, oh, 1122, 63. Like that's like the perfect thing to recommend to someone.
Speaker 44179.78s - 4184.8s
And I go and look at the ones because he lists what he actually has read. And he mentioned that. You're like, wait, you were a kid.
Speaker 34188.86s - 4195.46s
Oh. It was just like a stab in the heart i was like oh like the yoda pretty much but then uh you know that was 2011 so yeah that's been that could easily be someone
Speaker 44195.46s - 4210.76s
that's uh you know 18 21 year old person that was you know however young in 2000 or however young they would have been when they picked up 11 20 so it just it hurt me though because i was like oh yeah and i clicked out of the i'm not even comment i'm done i can't i can't do this
Speaker 34210.76s - 4215.18s
uh barraqi says i don't get all the hate for under the dome i loved it from front to back don't get us
Speaker 44215.18s - 4227.38s
wrong we loved the book yes the miniseries however oh it's horrible it left a bad taste in our mouth and it's very unfair that the book is getting crap for it.
Speaker 34227.38s - 4231.46s
There's a lot of people, I think, that have let the mini series, or the series, it wasn't
Speaker 44231.46s - 4244.26s
even a mini series, because there's multiple seasons. Oh, that's right. It was like three seasons. But they've let that affect the book. And I have not done that. Like, for me, it's just a matter of like, there, I mean, I've honestly, like, sincethat's come out, like we've started this show. Yeah.
Speaker 04244.34s - 4257.06s
I've done this whole idea of going through all the books who created this list and stuff. Like, when I started, I mean, I've honestly, like, since that's come out, like we've started this show. I've done this whole idea of going through all the books who created this list and stuff. Like, when I started, I mean, I'm at 72% of King PERSON's bibliography right now. I guarantee I would have been closer to like 25 to 30% when we started all this.
Speaker 34257.06s - 4263.88s
So I've read a lot of fucking King PERSON in that time. And I've really tried to minimize rereads as much as I can.
Speaker 04263.96s - 4289.66s
And it doesn't hurt that or it doesn't help that I've, you know, got things like Dark Tower WORK_OF_ART and the stand that I'm rereading so regularly and that are girthy. That, you know, like there's a lot of books. I have it. I mean, when I reread Mr. Mercedes trilogy back when they dropped them on Peacock ORG. And it was the first time they were like readily accessible.I watched through them all that I went through and read them. And that was the first time since they had published. So it's just I would say it's hard to get around to rereads for me, except for a couple special ones I reread pretty often.
Speaker 44289.74s - 4294.78s
Yeah. Dead Zone, one of my favorite books that I've read of his. I still ever reread that. So, yeah.
Speaker 34295.14s - 4303.62s
Yes, I don't hate Under the Dome FAC. I'm with you. It was a page turner. I think I went through that one faster than most of the close to a thousand page of books because I couldn't fucking put it down.
Speaker 24303.74s - 4312.6s
Yeah. It was back when we were younger. I mean, I think I remember like, you know, literally losing sleep because of that book. It's like,oh, well, I can go on four hours of sleep. I'll read for a couple more hours.
Speaker 54313.14s - 4321.38s
So, yeah, I do love the book. Even people that shit on the ending, I love it. Yeah. It's great stuff for me.I liked it too.
Speaker 44321.58s - 4338.78s
I remember you being like, dude, you got to read this. And you gave me your copy. And dude, you got to read this. And you gave me your copy. And then someone else wanted to read it as well. And you're like, dude, as soon as you're done, like get it back to me. I read like maybe like six or seven chapters. And I'm like, yeah, I'm just going to go buy my own. I just went and bought my own and gave yours back.
Speaker 34338.94s - 4342.44s
Plus there's also just something great about having a hardcover you can kill someone with.
Speaker 44342.58s - 4345.04s
Yeah. It's just some comfort to that.
Speaker 34345.34s - 4351.7s
You could drop it out of a window under a little kid's head. As much as I love, like, later, you couldn't hurt anybody with that book if you had to,
Speaker 44351.74s - 4353.68s
if it came down to like a self-defense situation.
Speaker 34354.1s - 4357.74s
But under the dome, like, yeah, put that in a pillowcase and start swinging it.
Speaker 44357.74s - 4359.74s
On the dome would be good to hit someone in the dome with.
Speaker 34361.66s - 4363.2s
I just see this a Pruder film.
Speaker 44365.04s - 4366.16s
With Under the Dome FAC.
Speaker 54366.7s - 4371.36s
I'm surprised you didn't give me a comment about my joke about dropping it on a kid.
Speaker 34372.38s - 4375.3s
Yeah, Susanna PERSON would not approve.
Speaker 44376.02s - 4376.82s
They'd not approve.
Speaker 34377.06s - 4380.5s
I mean, I think maybe a brick might do less damage than Under the Dome FAC.
Speaker 44381.86s - 4382.76s
Terminal velocity.
Speaker 34383.88s - 4385.78s
All right, so going on to subchapter two,
Speaker 44385.86s - 4387.86s
and this is a pretty lengthy subchapter.
Speaker 34388s - 4389.14s
And before we start this chapter,
Speaker 44389.64s - 4392.78s
I wanted to ask a question because I did miss a few.
Speaker 34392.84s - 4393.62s
We already mentioned it.
Speaker 44393.88s - 4399.3s
I did miss a few book clubs. How much have we seen of the Ant Court and Susan PERSON's relationship?
Speaker 34399.82s - 4404s
We've certainly seen hints. This is going to be the biggest blow up we've seen.
Speaker 44404s - 4413.5s
But there was the confrontation after Ria PERSON. Okay. Where, you know, she's like, you know, expected you an hour ago. Like, and then there was just kind of a back and forth.
Speaker 04413.66s - 4428.9s
There was kind of, you definitely got the sense of their reputation also at the party. It's like, why is he looking at you like that? Like, and it was just immediately jumping on her, accusing her of shit. Okay. We've, I think, I don't think there's going to be any surprises, although this does go further than anything we've seen before.
Speaker 54428.96s - 4431.78s
But I think we've got plenty of, um, little hints.
Speaker 04432.04s - 4436.98s
We've gotten plenty. Yeah, there's plenty of signs that we've seen so far that this is not a great relationship. Got it. Okay.
Speaker 44437.58s - 4531.18s
So it's breakfast. Aunt Cord PERSON was at the stove getting a bowl of oatmeal. Susan PERSON saw things were not good the moment that her aunt looked at her. There was a twitch to her lip as disapproving glance at the orange that Susan PERSON was peeling. Her aunt was wrinkled by the lack of silver and gold she had expected by now and couldn't get since Ria had to decree that Susan would remain aversion until autumn. But money wasn't the only thing. They were sick of each other. Cord PERSON had expected to have the house to herself by nowwith an occasional visit from Jonas PERSON, who she was taken with. And then I got a quote here from the books. I thought this was just really compelling how King PERSON described this relationship between the two women. Instead, they were still here they still were. One woman growing toward the end of her courses, thin disapproving lips in a thin, disapproving face, tiny apple breasts under her high-necked dresses with her choker collars. The neck she frequently told Susan PERSON is the first thing to go. Her hair losing its former chestnut shine and showing wire threads of gray. The other, young, intelligent, agile, and rounding toward the peak of her physical beauty. They grated against each other, each word seeming to produce a spark, and that was notsurprising. The man who had loved them both enough to make them love each other was gone. And my first note here, as a father and everything, this is never going to end well when an adult doesn't love the child that they're raising. Yeah.
Speaker 34531.28s - 4551.42s
Even if Susan's not exactly like a young child, the fact of that line there at the end from King PERSON, the man who would love them both enough to make them love each other. So there is no love between the two of them without Pat PERSON. Not inherent. Yeah. Yeah. That's not, that's, that's a terrible situation to be in yeah and that's just the I had to stop there very
Speaker 44551.42s - 4556.68s
early on in the subchapter because that is dark yeah to have that pronouncement from king right here
Speaker 34556.68s - 4562.82s
at the start yeah um so my notes here I think this uh this gives a sense of their relationship
Speaker 44562.82s - 4565.44s
even if we hadn't uh even if we hadn't seen,
Speaker 34565.64s - 4567.56s
or even though we have seen taste of it already,
Speaker 44567.98s - 4569.24s
the fact that Susan PERSON immediately knew
Speaker 34569.24s - 4572.02s
it was not going to go well because of Cord PERSON's disposition.
Speaker 44572.52s - 4574.24s
It honestly reminds me of how abused kids
Speaker 34574.24s - 4578.8s
tend to be able to read the smallest things with an abusive parent and their mood.
Speaker 04579.18s - 4594.22s
Not to say court is necessarily physically abusive, but still it doesn't speak well of her either. You know, you always hear about that with kids that, like, have super abusive parents where it's just liketheir privy of the smallest change in their parents' attitudes and stuff.
Speaker 44594.44s - 4600.18s
Like, you know, you see that all the time, unfortunately, like throughout, you know, whatever. It reminds me of Beverly PERSON.
Speaker 34600.56s - 4610.88s
Yeah, exactly. With her dad and everything like that. Like, she knew instantly, like, if it was his tone or the way he looked at her or anything.
Speaker 44611.1s - 4626.64s
Yeah, exactly. And my next note, again, with the money, with this hag, this is bad enough that she's essentially disappointed to not have more money. But what's worse is she's also wanting the house to herself. That goes to what you said, she doesn't care for Susan PERSON beyond the pay that she is going to bring her.
Speaker 34627.52s - 4628.12s
So, yeah.
Speaker 04628.3s - 4630.12s
Just not very likable.
Speaker 34630.32s - 4654.28s
No. Then all this aside, King shows the difference between the two and how it's going to spark trouble on occasions. You know, because it's just, because sometimes you do have that. You have those oil and water people where they're just, they're not. I mean, throughout life, you see it with couples. You see it with parents and kids. Sometimes they're just, there's, the two attitudes and different, like, personalities are too different that they're just, they're, they're always
Speaker 44654.28s - 4658.9s
going to have a pop off every so often. Spouses with in-laws is a big one. That happens a ton.
Speaker 24659.2s - 4662.58s
Yeah. It's like, oh, you're not good enough for my son slash daughter, you know, kind of thing.
Speaker 44663.12s - 4669.5s
And here, court is basically saying, like, you know, I'm mad at you for, you know, not
Speaker 34669.5s - 4672.76s
completing the deal, even though it's out of Susan PERSON's hand.
Speaker 04672.88s - 4676.5s
It's like, not even her fault at all, but she's still holding it against her.
Speaker 44676.64s - 4676.9s
Yeah.
Speaker 34678.22s - 4698.42s
Resenting her for it. Exactly. And so going on, Aunt Cord asks if she's going, if Susan PERSON's going out on that horse, she was sitting in a shaft of, Aunt Cord PERSON was sitting in a shaft of sun. She never would have sat in if Jonas PERSON was visiting. The strong light made her face look like a carved mask. She had a cold sort growing in one corner of her mouth from not sleeping and stressing.
Speaker 44699.6s - 4731.18s
She tells Susan PERSON to eat more than the orange. Susan PERSON says it'll hold her over just fine. She starts to eat the orange faster because she could see dislike and disapproval in her aunt's eyes and wanted to get away from the table before it, you know, exploded and began. Her aunt asks why not have a bowl of oatmeal like hers and it will hold her until lunch?Susan PERSON thinks it looks like a bowl of mud or shit that a horse hoof had stamped down in. Then her aunt says, and I quote this from the book, I suppose a fine young lady such as yourself can't be bothered with chores. That's the quote.
Speaker 54732.24s - 4752.18s
To which Susan PERSON replied she had already done them. And then to herself, she thinks, you know this aunt. I did them while you were poking at the sore on your face. For a moment, it seems breakfast would end on a reasonably civil note. But then the shirt business started. And I put my note here, her aunt is already such a pleasant person.
Speaker 04752.4s - 4763.3s
Yeah. Like, you know, I have this conversation with my daughter. Hey, you're going to eat something more than just that? No, I'm not hungry. Are you sure? I don't want you to be hungry later.
Speaker 34763.42s - 4768.92s
You know, that's how I have that conversation. Yeah. Because I love and respect my daughter. I want her to be fed and
Speaker 44768.92s - 4774.76s
have energy and, you know, and everything like that. She's over here just like, eat more. You know,
Speaker 34774.76s - 4781.34s
like, gurg. And just like, oh, hostile. Yeah. Towards her, you know. Yeah. There might be a reason
Speaker 44781.34s - 4787.28s
that she ended up on the second in the votes for the most hated character, yeah.
Speaker 34787.62s - 4789.6s
2019 back when we did our first March insanity.
Speaker 44790.36s - 4792.24s
It was her in the finals.
Speaker 34792.62s - 4794.92s
So there's versus Rhea PERSON, both from this book.
Speaker 44795.14s - 4796.38s
Yeah, there's a reason for that.
Speaker 04796.98s - 4805.52s
My notes here, as if she actually cares about Susan PERSON's diet, more like she's trying to assert authority over her and picking whatever topic she can to flex that authority on her.
Speaker 34806.66s - 4810.28s
Every little thing has to be nitpicked at.
Speaker 44810.4s - 4811.18s
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 34811.78s - 4823.14s
And then my next note, Susan PERSON is wrong, though. Oatmeal is delicious. I hated it as a kid, but somewhere around her age, I grew to love it. Throw a little bit of milk and sugar in there and then get some toast for dipping, and that's a great-a-break breakfast.
Speaker 44824.56s - 4826.08s
I haven't had oatmeal
Speaker 34826.08s - 4832.68s
in probably 20 years i just i i i can't i mean i'm with susan it looks like crap dude i rarely eat
Speaker 44832.68s - 4852.22s
it but it's one of those things where it's like and i i don't do any of that um flavor bullshit just give me plain oatmeal not not maple brown sugar or cinnamon apple like i said i'll sprinkle a little bit of sugar a little bit of milk to like coagulate it out a little bit. And then, yeah, you get some toast. It's delicious. I love it.The more I learn about you, Ted PERSON, the more you surprise me.
Speaker 34855.18s - 4861.08s
Then my last note, the chores thing proves my earlier point, she is either trying to flex authority or is straight up looking for a fight.
Speaker 44861.86s - 4862.16s
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 34862.28s - 4862.92s
Or both?
Speaker 44862.92s - 4864.44s
Yeah, to bring up the chores.
Speaker 34864.64s - 4865.06s
Like, it's just,
Speaker 04865.32s - 4866.08s
it's like she's just,
Speaker 54866.6s - 4868.8s
she's got a couple knobs that she's seeing.
Speaker 44869.2s - 4869.3s
Right.
Speaker 54869.46s - 4872.72s
She's tweaking those knobs trying to find the one that's going to cause.
Speaker 04872.98s - 4874.56s
It's like she wants a fight ultimately.
Speaker 44874.56s - 4888.44s
Yeah. Well, it's also the way she says it. That's the thing that I've, I've had conversations with people who, who I've like tried to mediate fights for them. And I'm like, okay, it's not that you brought this subject up. It's how you brought it up.
Speaker 24888.52s - 4890s
It's how you say it. Tone.
Speaker 44890.12s - 4892.5s
You know, Aunt Cord PERSON didn't say, hey, did you get your chores done?
Speaker 24892.74s - 4897.8s
Which is, again, we're using an example here, how I talk to my daughter. Okay.
Speaker 44898.68s - 4899.78s
Hey, did you clean your room?
Speaker 54900.22s - 4900.92s
Oh, no, I forgot.
Speaker 44901.06s - 4920.04s
Okay, you got to do that before you go outside and play with your friends, you know, kind of thing. Yeah. Cord PERSON says, and this is why I quoted it, I suppose a fine young lady such as yourself can't be bothered with chores. Like, assuming that she didn't do it, assuming that she's a bad kid and everything like that. Susan PERSON, just throat punch her.
Speaker 34920.12s - 4921.86s
Just throat punch her.
Speaker 54922.1s - 4923.58s
Be a good one.
Speaker 44923.68s - 4923.92s
Right there.
Speaker 54923.92s - 4925.4s
That flappy neck that she's got.
Speaker 44925.52s - 4925.68s
Yep.
Speaker 54926.58s - 4927.82s
It's the first thing to go, right?
Speaker 44927.86s - 4929.96s
Brokey PERSON says it's a texture thing, blah.
Speaker 54931s - 4931.4s
See?
Speaker 44934.2s - 4935.76s
That's why I don't like mashed potatoes.
Speaker 34936.06s - 4936.96s
Oh, dude, mash.
Speaker 44937.14s - 4938.84s
I love the taste of mashed potatoes.
Speaker 34939s - 4940.7s
I gag at the texture of it.
Speaker 44940.78s - 4942.24s
That's the only reason I don't eat them.
Speaker 34942.24s - 4947.04s
I'm coming to the conclusion that I'm just not as big a potato eater as I was when I was
Speaker 44947.04s - 4950.86s
younger. A lot of different kinds of potatoes I'm just kind of grown tired of. And mashed potatoes
Speaker 34950.86s - 4954.76s
is one of the few that I still really fucking enjoy. Good old Thanksgiving.
Speaker 44955.1s - 4955.7s
Oh, dude.
Speaker 34955.8s - 4962.7s
Yeah, make a bowl out of it and then fill it with gravy. Yeah. I love it. But, uh, yeah,
Speaker 44962.82s - 4967.18s
texture, I get it. Texture could be. It's sad because I do like the taste of potatoes.
Speaker 34967.34s - 4968.62s
It's purely texture.
Speaker 44970.14s - 4970.88s
Oh, man.
Speaker 34971s - 4971.42s
All right, yeah.
Speaker 44971.42s - 4973.24s
I'm going to get some crap from that.
Speaker 34973.38s - 4976.86s
I know people, every time they find out that I don't like mashed potatoes, I always get crap.
Speaker 44976.88s - 4978.68s
Hey, it's nothing like my brother when I was a kid.
Speaker 34979.64s - 4983.34s
This kid did not like hamburgers of any kind.
Speaker 44983.44s - 4984.4s
He wouldn't eat McDonald's ORG.
Speaker 34984.9s - 4990.84s
He hated pizza. Hated mac and cheese. All the like the quintessential food for kids.
Speaker 44991.36s - 4994.36s
He hated them all. What do you eat like steak or? No.
Speaker 34995.24s - 4995.86s
I mean,
Speaker 44995.9s - 5023.88s
I don't know. I don't even remember exactly. But like I do remember like when we were like, oh, we're going to go out to eat and we go to like McDonald's ORG. They'd like stop and get drive-through fucking Taco Bell ORG for him.All right. And we just bring it into McDonald's and he'd eat Taco Bell ORG. Well, we all ate real food. I mean, real. Real food. And McDonald ORG's.Back in the 90s, it was more like real food. It was pretty good. Taco Bell ORG, nah. Nah. So going on, Aunt Cortell Susan PERSON, but before she goes out to take off that rag she's wearing, again, a way of saying it.
Speaker 05024s - 5025.64s
Like, calling it a rag. Yeah. Like right off the bat. Like, we're talking about. It, a way of saying it. Yeah. Calling it a rag.
Speaker 35025.82s - 5027.72s
Like right off the bat, like we're talking about.
Speaker 05027.88s - 5028.94s
It's the way you say things.
Speaker 35029.02s - 5029.24s
Yeah.
Speaker 05029.42s - 5033.46s
It's not necessarily the context of what you're saying.
Speaker 45033.52s - 5034.58s
It's how you're saying it.
Speaker 35034.58s - 5041.94s
Yeah. As someone who's one of my mutant powers is being able to know exactly how to say something to get someone, I know what you're talking about. Yes, you do.
Speaker 45042s - 5043.5s
I use it to my own ends.
Speaker 35043.5s - 5043.74s
You do.
Speaker 45043.94s - 5045.78s
And you're horrible at it. We all hate you all. We all hate you for. Like earlier when I you do. I use it to my own ends. You do, and you're horrible at it. We hate you all for.
Speaker 35045.9s - 5049.36s
Like earlier, when I slid that, we love Ria PERSON in there.
Speaker 45049.36s - 5051.22s
Exactly. It's great. No, it's not.
Speaker 35051.38s - 5056.52s
And see, she's doing the same thing. I'm going to start calling you Ann Cord PERSON then. She's just doing it maliciously,
Speaker 45056.6s - 5063.08s
whereas I do it, you know, in a fun and jovial way. I don't like you.
Speaker 35064.34s - 5065.72s
Why am I doing this again?
Speaker 45066.52s - 5067.46s
Because you love it.
Speaker 35067.66s - 5068.12s
I do.
Speaker 55069.14s - 5074.42s
So she tells Susan PERSON to take off that rag she's wearing and put on one of the new riding blouses that the mayor sent over for her.
Speaker 45075.12s - 5080.48s
Susan PERSON erupts saying that the rag had belonged to her father. Ooh. Yeah.
Speaker 35080.48s - 5088.82s
That's not a good luck. No. Aunt Cord says it is too big for Susan PERSON. It is improper for her to wear a man's shirt while riding now that she has a woman's bus line.
Speaker 45089.44s - 5109.8s
The riding blouses the mayor had sent over were in the corner of the front room because Susan PERSON didn't even want them in her room. They were silk and worth a small fortune each. She loved them for their frilly and full sleeve designed to flutter in the wind and had great floppy foolish collars. I love that that's how King PERSON actually worded it. Floppy foolish collars.
Speaker 55110.04s - 5110.32s
Yeah.
Speaker 35111.12s - 5114.98s
But of course the low scoot front is all she thought the mayor cared about.
Speaker 55115.14s - 5116.28s
And there it is.
Speaker 35116.38s - 5116.7s
Yeah.
Speaker 55116.96s - 5123.02s
Susan PERSON says her woman's bus line is of no one's interest to her, no interest to her or anyone else while she's out riding.
Speaker 45123.68s - 5127.88s
Her aunt says perhaps or perhaps not. But if someone was to mention to the mayor that they
Speaker 35127.88s - 5131.58s
saw her writing in one of the new blouses, it would be a good look for them.
Speaker 45132.74s - 5174.8s
Susan says, oh, sorry, Aunt Corte PERSON says, the why is she have to be so unwilling and so unfair? Susan PERSON asks, what's it matter to her? She'll have her money one way or the other after he fucks her. That's direct quote. Aunt Cord PERSON's face was white and shocked with fury. She leans across the table and slaps Susan PERSON. She says, how dare she use that word in her house and calls her a Spanish NORP word for a foul-mouthed person? I pause there and say, this is not going well. No, it just keeps getting worse. I just have to comment real fast. I didn't take a note of this, but reading through this, I should have. She's saying it's not proper for a woman to wear a button-up men's shirt. Yeah.
Speaker 35175.04s - 5179.12s
Last I checked, button-up men's shirts don't show a single iota of cleavage.
Speaker 45179.92s - 5187.02s
Having worn one myself, I don't think that happens. Like, unless maybe the shirt's too small.
Speaker 35187.22s - 5189.82s
Yeah, that's what I'd be is. It's not cut for a woman.
Speaker 45189.82s - 5192.24s
So the buttons, like, have the gaps in them and everything like that.
Speaker 35192.64s - 5195.4s
But it's her dad's shirt.
Speaker 45195.5s - 5207.5s
He was a bigger guy, wasn't he? Like, I don't see how that. And then she's telling her to put on one of these blouses from the mayor, which has, like, a low line to show off her cleavage. It's like, wait, what's more inappropriate for her?
Speaker 35207.66s - 5214.28s
Like, come on. But this does strike is pretty true, though, because you think of like, back in like the,
Speaker 45214.34s - 5220s
you know, the more like frontier days in our world, you know, like what women could and couldn't
Speaker 05220s - 5231.28s
wear while being proper, right? It's like a woman couldn't wear pants. No. You know, like even if they were going to ride. You know, things like bustles and, you know, like, oh, what are the things to sit?
Speaker 45231.28s - 5240.38s
Gertle PERSON. Yeah, like all that bullshit. Like, yeah. So this isn't completely out of the realm of like this might actually be a real concern for that.
Speaker 35240.42s - 5240.8s
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 45241.32s - 5265.18s
You know, because it isn't like, oh, this. I mean, not saying her tone or anything is right, but I'm just saying that maybe there is true, like, decorum that she Yeah, exactly. You know, because it isn't like, oh, this, I mean, not saying her tone or anything is right, but I'm just saying that maybe there is true, like, decorum that she's actually referring to. And it could be. I just don't see that a dad shirt on a young adult woman would be too tight that we would have that separation issue. Well, it could
Speaker 35265.18s - 5267.52s
it's just low cut it could be like not leaving much
Speaker 45267.52s - 5271.5s
the imagination because again it's not cut for a woman true it could be that I don't know
Speaker 35271.5s - 5286.74s
but then my note here God forbid one sides with Aunt Cord but I can kind of see where she's coming from if she's going to go out ride and be seen and word makes his way back to the mayor he could be offendedwe have not really seen enough from the mayor to know what that might mean.
Speaker 05287.7s - 5291.02s
But I don't think that court's concerners are entirely unwarranted.
Speaker 55292.08s - 5294.5s
Because, again, do we really know enough about the mayor?
Speaker 05294.62s - 5296.3s
Like, is he one that would be vindictive?
Speaker 25296.6s - 5304.78s
Would he, like, come back on them in some way? Like, I don't know. Again, I'm not, God PERSON forbid, I have to freaking side with her.
Speaker 45307.14s - 5315.96s
But it is just one of those things. Yeah, it's one of those things where it is yeah I mean he's the mayor like he's got some authority like maybe there is some concern about what he may or may not like
Speaker 55315.96s - 5320.42s
um of course I can totally see why Susan PERSON hates them and the idea of them as well
Speaker 05320.42s - 5339.08s
not to mention why she might value a shirt of her dead father so So that's all to say that I'm not fully signing with her. I'm just saying that we don't know enough about this mayor yet to know, like, could this fuck them over? You know, could he like renege on part of the deal and short them on some money? Like, God knows.
Speaker 45339.54s - 5348.1s
See, that's what, that's where Susan PERSON's kind of making the point with what she says that it doesn't matter. He's going to have me one way or the other. The papers are signed and everything like that.
Speaker 35348.22s - 5354.44s
Yeah. It's agreed upon. But we don't know if he's like, is he going to be one that's going to freaking abuse her, you know, like slap her around and stuff?
Speaker 45354.44s - 5359.66s
Because like you disres like, I don't know. And I know that's like leaving that stuff we don't really know.
Speaker 05359.76s - 5364.16s
But I'm just saying devil's advocate for cord, which devil, cord, what's the difference?
Speaker 45364.88s - 5369.48s
You know, we don't know enough about the mayor to know what exactly she's concerned about.
Speaker 05369.56s - 5371.18s
Or maybe she is just being fucking.
Speaker 45371.72s - 5378.68s
I will say that in the actual text, Cordelia PERSON is more worried about like their image towards the mayor.
Speaker 35378.8s - 5379.1s
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 45379.14s - 5384.4s
Not necessarily how the mayor's going to react if she's seen riding in her dad's shirt.
Speaker 35384.48s - 5391.76s
Yeah. It's more of like, hey, get on his good side. Maybe he'll give us a little something extra. Exactly. It could be that for sure as well.
Speaker 45392.14s - 5399.08s
The other thing, too, is we see from a previous chapter that she ends up going riding on the drop, which I think is a little bit more like out in a way.
Speaker 55399.48s - 5410.22s
But like is cord assuming she might ride through town and stuff. Right. There's that part of it where we kind of know the future to know that she's going to eventually end up on the drop, which is kind of, there's not a lot of people there, I would imagine.
Speaker 45410.42s - 5413.4s
Horse drovers is basically, and that's even like Susan PERSON's point.
Speaker 35413.82s - 5415.34s
She's like, who's going to see me? Yeah.
Speaker 25416.52s - 5424.38s
I didn't write it down because it wasn't important, but Cordelia does say like, well, maybe one of the drovers will see it and mention it to one of the mayor's men and it'll get back to the mayor.
Speaker 35424.38s - 5429.9s
And it's like, yeah. This isn't something that Cordelia PERSON is like, you have to do this. The mayor's going to see you, you know maybe one of the drovers will see it and mention it to one of the mayor's men and it'll get back to the mayor. And it's like, yeah, this isn't something that Cordelia is like, like, you have to do this. The mayor's going to see you, you know, kind of thing.
Speaker 45430.26s - 5433.8s
It literally is her trying to pick a fight over the smallest little thing.
Speaker 35433.8s - 5443.92s
Yeah, which seems about right. Yeah, right. And then my last note, Susan slaps Cordelia PERSON verbally and then gets physically slapped in return. Yeah. Because that was a verbal slap.
Speaker 45444.04s - 5446.02s
Oh, absolutely. Swearing at her like that.
Speaker 35446.18s - 5458.82s
Yeah, and dropping, like, the harsher end of words, too. You know, as one that grew up in Utah GPE, you know, I know there's, like, levels to how you can use swear words. And she went to the deep end of the well there.
Speaker 45459.1s - 5461.74s
Yep, one of the worst swear words that a lot of people hate.
Speaker 35461.74s - 5463.58s
And used it most graphically, too.
Speaker 45463.96s - 5468s
Like, it's not like, oh, fuck off, but oh, so when he fucks me, like it's just, that's
Speaker 35468s - 5475.96s
it's almost a little bit worse than the other fuck that you use. Exactly. And then, because ultimately that's the thing with like movie ratings.
Speaker 45476.36s - 5479.94s
You know, PG-13, they can use fuck one time, but it can never be referring
Speaker 55479.94s - 5481.94s
to sex. Yeah. It can't be used in that
Speaker 05481.94s - 5483.98s
manner because that is so much worse
Speaker 55483.98s - 5489.12s
that that'll immediately make it rate at R. So it's like she knew, and I think she knew. She didn't, she didn't do that
Speaker 05489.12s - 5493.28s
accidentally or out of passion. I think she was fully intending to slap Cordelia PERSON with that
Speaker 55493.28s - 5499.38s
and got slapped back. And this is what she was talking about when she came downstairs, when she
Speaker 05499.38s - 5503.9s
was thinking to herself, is that she knew that this was going to go off. Yeah. She could feel it
Speaker 45503.9s - 5505.32s
like between the two of them.
Speaker 35505.38s - 5505.98s
Feel the tension.
Speaker 45506.24s - 5509.46s
She can't control herself when Aunt Cord PERSON pushes the buttons and flicks the switches
Speaker 35509.46s - 5510.36s
that gets her going.
Speaker 45510.46s - 5511.3s
It's like Avery PERSON said.
Speaker 35511.46s - 5513.74s
There's two powder kegs and one fat share of between them.
Speaker 45513.86s - 5516.98s
Well, we just moved to another subchapter a whole different time three weeks later,
Speaker 35517.04s - 5518.98s
and there's still two powder kegs that we're dealing with here.
Speaker 45519.48s - 5521.06s
And there's no fat sheriff in between.
Speaker 35521.26s - 5521.66s
Exactly.
Speaker 45521.94s - 5522.9s
It's just the two of them.
Speaker 35522.92s - 5535.18s
Yep, exactly. So this is where Susan PERSON has had enough. She throws the rest of her orange in her aunt's face and pushes back from the table so hard she falls over backwards. I love throwing the orange. That's glorious.
Speaker 45535.86s - 5567.3s
Her aunt's shadow looms over her. Susan PERSON scrambles back and gets to her feet. Court calls her an ungrateful girl and says, after all, she and the mayor have done for her, that the nag she is about to go ride is a gift from the mayor. Susan PERSON screams at her aunt that the horse was theirs before. All of them were, and so was the land. Her aunt tells her to lower her voice. And that always, this always pisses me off. As someone who does have a temper, you don't get to push my buttons and piss me off. And then when I get mad, tell me to lower my voice.
Speaker 35567.46s - 5575.8s
Yeah. Like I just, on a note here, I fucking hate people who do this. It's like the one me, my saw where it's just like kind of bad advice.
Speaker 05575.94s - 5578.06s
It's like, yeah, you know, if your wife's mad about something,
Speaker 45578.14s - 5593.14s
just tell her to calm down. She'll realize the error of her waist. Right. Come on. It just, it just pisses me off. They get to push my buttons and piss me off.And then when I get mad, I'm the, I'm the asshole. Like, no.
Speaker 05593.86s - 5595.58s
It takes me off with that.
Speaker 55596.3s - 5600.14s
So Susan PERSON takes a deep breath that she's trying to get control of herself.
Speaker 05600.9s - 5608.64s
She's already better than me. She sweeps back her hair revealing the handprint on her cheek, which her aunt flinches at the side of it, which is interesting to think about.
Speaker 45609s - 5611.24s
Like, oh, I left a mark.
Speaker 35611.66s - 5611.88s
Yeah.
Speaker 45611.98s - 5635.92s
Susan PERSON says that her father never would have allowed this. Her aunt rolls her eyes and says that Susan PERSON agreed to this all herself. And then she calls her, Miss, oh, so young and pretty. Again, that condescending little shit. Miss she grate your teeth, doesn't it?It does. It's like chewing on tinfoil. It's like Miss Carmine PERSON. Susan PERSON cuts her
Speaker 05635.92s - 5643.94s
often says that she did agree after her aunt done her day and night. I'm assuming that means bugged her day and night, harped on her. Yeah. You know,
Speaker 35644.24s - 5665.66s
then came to her in tears, which her aunt vehemently denies. Susan S says, how quickly you forget, and that by tonight she will have forgotten slapping me at breakfast. The whole time Susan PERSON has been using her V to refer to her aunt, these and thows and kind of things. Yeah. And Cordelia PERSON hates that because that's her way of talking. Yeah. Again, Susan PERSON, like you said because that's her way of talking. Yeah.
Speaker 45669.82s - 5670.12s
Again, Susan PERSON, like you said, slapping her aunt every time she says it and everything.
Speaker 05670.46s - 5670.86s
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 35673.84s - 5674.22s
One thing I did leave out of my notes here, but I'm just remembering now.
Speaker 05681.88s - 5682.52s
The thing that sets Susan off is that if we go back up, Cordelia PERSON says, how dare she use that word in her house?
Speaker 35682.76s - 5682.82s
Yeah.
Speaker 45684.18s - 5692.16s
This is Cordelia PERSON's house. Whereas really, this is Susan PERSON and her dad's house. Yeah. This is Cordelia's house, whereas really this is Susan and her dad's house. Yeah. She had nowhere to go.
Speaker 35695.44s - 5702s
They brought her in from the cold and everything like that. Yeah. And now it's all of a sudden her house. Yeah. Even though Susan PERSON's the one making the deal to keep the house and everything like that. Yeah.
Speaker 45702.32s - 5702.6s
Yeah.
Speaker 35702.9s - 5717.72s
That's not a manipulative, narcissistic kind of person, you know? Yeah. Brockie says, I think Susan PERSON let herself be convinced her, her father would have wanted her to do this with the mayor. But deep down, she knows her father would have been ashamed of her.
Speaker 45718.56s - 5721.4s
There's actually a line about that coming up. Yeah.
Speaker 35721.44s - 5730.46s
Then he says, her use of the F word here revealed how she really felt about the arrangement deep down. And it was meant to hurt Cordelia PERSON. Yeah, then he says, her use of the F word here revealed how she really felt about the arrangement deep down, and it was meant to hurt Cordelia PERSON. Yeah, indeed, indeed. Because again,
Speaker 45730.76s - 5742.9s
it's, it's using that word in the most graphic way possible and about this situation. It's not just this, like, obscure, like, no, it's like when he fucks me, like that's, that's a whole, like,
Speaker 15742.9s - 5748.22s
that's putting a fucking point on it, like a, you know, like, what do they say? Putting too fine a point on it.
Speaker 45748.22s - 5752.06s
Well, that's a fucking knife point that she just put on that and stabbed Cordelia PERSON with it.
Speaker 15752.24s - 5752.6s
Exactly.
Speaker 45753.44s - 5758.52s
And my note here is just nothing like turning something back on someone like Cordelia PERSON to get under their skin when you're fighting.
Speaker 15758.68s - 5759.06s
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 45759.3s - 5761.74s
Just like Cordelia PERSON did to her telling her to calm down.
Speaker 35762.22s - 5776.36s
Susan comes right back in his, these and vows back at Cordelia PERSON. Yeah. So the idea of a gift being taken from the family and then given, or the idea of these gifts are things that belong to the family and then were taken and given back his gift. That's pretty shitty. It's not,
Speaker 45776.5s - 5783.56s
the worst part is some of these things like the horse. It's not even gifts. This is payment for him making her his gilly.
Speaker 35783.74s - 5784.02s
Yeah.
Speaker 45784.14s - 5794.68s
Like, oh, you can't pay the taxes here. Let's take your horse. Oh, what's that? You're going to be my whore. Sorry, Gilly PERSON, they're not whores. Yeah.Gilly PERSON, great, here's your horse back. It's a gift for me to you.
Speaker 05794.82s - 5796.02s
No, it's a payment.
Speaker 45796.62s - 5802.3s
No, that was mine to begin with. That's what, that's what Susan PERSON is very upset about.
Speaker 35802.54s - 5816.08s
Yeah. And that's what she says, the land, the horses, all of this was ours before. Yeah. They took it from us. Yeah. And then my last note for this section. And the orange hornet cord's face, not nearly enough. A brick would have been more well what she deserved. We should have used under the dome.
Speaker 45816.58s - 5825.9s
Yeah. We have virtually nothing like about this woman. And the three or four times we've seen her so far in this story. In fact, the opposite, she is just, she's just fucking terrible. She's the worst.
Speaker 05825.9s - 5834.24s
And I feel like every single scene we're getting with her, she gets worse. Mm-hmm. You know, it's like, she's bad to start. And then it just keeps getting worse and worse and worse. And it's just like, oh, my God, man.
Speaker 45834.62s - 5840s
Like, this woman is driving to drinking. Oh, yeah. Like, you just want to ring something. Yeah.
Speaker 35841s - 5842.22s
Yeah, like a billy bumbler.
Speaker 45842.42s - 5843.62s
No, you stop that.
Speaker 35845.1s - 5846.26s
You stop that. You stop that.
Speaker 45846.26s - 5850s
You can't throw a softball over the plate like that and expect me not to.
Speaker 35850.36s - 5851.88s
Hashtag Peter is terrible.
Speaker 45854.44s - 5856.6s
Susan PERSON goes on with the these and thous,
Speaker 35856.7s - 5858.14s
and then I got a quote here from the book,
Speaker 45858.58s - 5862.14s
her rage was at the flood and would not be turned aside.
Speaker 35862.64s - 5865.12s
So that just shows you how mad Susan PERSON is here.
Speaker 45865.34s - 5865.66s
Yeah.
Speaker 35866.08s - 5870.66s
Susan says that Cord PERSON wept and said they would be turned out and sent west and never
Speaker 45870.66s - 5872.36s
see their homestead or Hambry GPE again.
Speaker 35872.74s - 5914.28s
The land would be given back along with the horses and that Susan PERSON would be a mother. This is what Cordelia is begging Susan PERSON to agree to this. This is what she was saying to her. Yeah. All of these would be Susan PERSON's and for what cost to sleep with him while his wife of 40 years is just down the hall. Her aunt says if it's money she wants, then sheshall have it. Aunt court turns to her purse and starts to fumble with it. But her emotions quickly lose speed and conviction. There's a mirror hung where Susan PERSON can see her aunt's face and what she saw was a mixture of hatred, dismay, and greed. All of that made Susan PERSON's heart sink. She tells her aunt that she doesn't want the money, since it pains her cordially so much to let it go.
Speaker 25914.82s - 5916.46s
She doesn't want whores money.
Speaker 45917.46s - 5981.82s
Her aunt whips around and says, isn't whore money? That some of the greatest women in history were Gillies PERSON, and some of the greatest men were born of Gillies. Susan PERSON rips one of the silk blouses off the hangar and holds it up and says, then why does he send me these horror clothes? She throws it at her aunt and just like the orange, she throws it out of her just like the orange, and says to put it on herself and spread her legs for him if she fancies. Susan PERSON then turned and hurled herself out the door. Her aunt yells after her not to go thinking foolish thoughts. Fulish thoughts lead to foolish deeds. And it's too late for that. Susan PERSON knew it wastoo late no matter how fast she rode her horse pylon along the job. She couldn't outrace her knowing. Knowing that she agreed and then no matter how, this is the line that I was talking about responding to David PERSON's thing in the chat about how her dad would feel.Knowing that she agreed and then no matter how horrified her dad would have been at her situation, he would see one thing. She had made a promise and promises must be kept. Hell away to those who would not do so. Yeah.
Speaker 35982.02s - 5985.94s
So we know that that's what I was talking about, David PERSON, is that there's a line there where
Speaker 45985.94s - 6003.98s
it's like perfectly clear where her dad would stand. He would be horrified that his daughter's in this situation of becoming the mayor's gilly. But she promised she has to keep her word because to them, you go to hell if you break those promises. Yeah. That's like the lowest form for them.
Speaker 36004.56s - 6008.26s
Yeah. And go ahead. No, no. It's, yeah lowest form for them. Yeah. And go ahead. No, no.
Speaker 46008.42s - 6010.54s
It's, yeah, I think it was Baraki PERSON that what you were.
Speaker 36010.54s - 6011.18s
Oh, it was Baraki PERSON.
Speaker 46011.24s - 6011.54s
I'm sorry.
Speaker 36011.7s - 6019.32s
Yeah. I was saying David, but it was Baraki PERSON. Gotcha. Yeah. Yeah. It's a lot.Yeah.
Speaker 46019.46s - 6029.6s
I just remember being blown away the first time I was reading this. I was so young, high school. I hadn't done much stunning of our own history. This all seems so foreign to me to have a
Speaker 06029.6s - 6045.9s
girl sell herself. Yeah. Like, I've heard of royal marriages. You know, the king of Spain has his daughter, Mary, the king of France GPE's son, and they form a union. Their country's become stronger together, you know, that kind of thing. Yeah. But the idea of just like...
Speaker 46045.9s - 6046.88s
What is the word dowry?
Speaker 36047.14s - 6055.24s
Yeah, I expect a dowry. There's a story growing up religious. There was a famous story where it's a dad selling his daughter.
Speaker 46055.96s - 6082.86s
But the dad's doing the selling. I want 10 cows is what he says to the suitor. Souter's like, okay, 10 cows it is. And then the dad comes back later seeing the daughter transform under the husband's loving care because the dad was abusive and a piece of shit. That the son, he comes back to the son in law now and he's like, I should have got50 cows from you. But, you know, it's just like, I've never really like heard of a culture where a woman's like, yeah, buy me. Yeah.
Speaker 36083.3s - 6091.86s
You know, how much? Property, unfortunately. Yeah, it's just terrible. I just remember, yeah, buy me. Yeah. You know, how much? Property, unfortunately. Yeah, it's just terrible. I just remember, like, that's maybe 16 or 17 the first time I read this.
Speaker 46092.72s - 6111.8s
Naive little Peter PERSON growing up in a religious home and everything, reading this and everything, just being like blown away that a girl, you know, my older sister was about Susan's age at this time. Yeah. And just being like, oh my gosh, this is terrible. Yeah. This was worse than Ludd GPE for me at the time.
Speaker 36111.94s - 6112.26s
Yeah.
Speaker 46112.54s - 6138.52s
Like everything that happened in Ludd GPE was terrible. This was somehow worse for me. Yeah. Just with how old I was and not having much world experience and everything. It was such an eye opener for me to see, like, how this world is. Yeah. And it's just like, yeah, it's natural. It's done. Gillies are a natural thing that happen all the time. Yeah, Roland is from the line, a gilly line of Arthur Lelt PERSON.
Speaker 36138.72s - 6139.08s
Exactly.
Speaker 46140.56s - 6145.76s
So, unfortunately, once again, we have to say cord is not wrong in that element of, you know.
Speaker 36145.76s - 6149.1s
No, but again, Gillies PERSON don't mean dishonor necessarily.
Speaker 56149.56s - 6155.24s
Like, again, like right now, the only thing in this world that connects to Arthur Eld is Roland PERSON's lineage.
Speaker 46155.56s - 6156.9s
And Rollins lineage is from Achilles PERSON.
Speaker 56157.4s - 6162.68s
And from like the highest in the land, Arthur Eld PERSON himself, you know?
Speaker 46162.82s - 6168.02s
Yeah, there is no like trueborn, like legitimate like line of Arthur Lel PERSON that still exists.
Speaker 56168.14s - 6170.82s
No, this is all that's left is one that is from a gillies.
Speaker 36170.86s - 6171.68s
From gillies, yeah.
Speaker 46172.34s - 6176.42s
So the idea of them losing everything because Pat PERSON died speaks about the society a bit.
Speaker 36176.74s - 6200.02s
I'm sure there may have been some tax, some of it may have been taxes, but with this mention of them losing everything and being allowed to continue mostly on as two unwed women. So the mayor probably robbed them beyond taxes because the man of the house was dead. Also makes you wonder how much of that holding them up, you know, basically holding them up like highway robbery was about putting them in a situation where marrying Susan PERSON to him was their only option. Yeah.
Speaker 46200.22s - 6210.84s
Was that all part, was it all manipulation to get his hands on her? Oh, absolutely. And there's a scene that's already happened where Susan PERSON remembers the mayor looking at her when she was too young. Yeah.
Speaker 36211.1s - 6215.98s
Well, I mean, she still is. She still is. She's like 16, I think, is what it is?
Speaker 46216.18s - 6218.22s
In our culture, she's too young.
Speaker 36218.3s - 6225.08s
Yeah. So, you know. So, yeah, it's, I don't know, it just, it adds a layer of disgustingness to this that's already a disgusting situation. And then the creep factor also, because I didn't, I don't know, it just, it adds a layer of disgustingness to this.
Speaker 46226.96s - 6240s
It's already a disgusting situation. And then the creep factor also, because I didn't, I wasn't here for it, but the creep factor were you like after the party, I still remember that, even though I haven't read it for a while, where you like, what is he, like, pounce on her in the hallway or something like that?
Speaker 36241.28s - 6245.84s
I think, no, I think he, I think he approaches her, but yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 46245.92s - 6248.46s
I think, yeah. She gets saved by someone, I think.
Speaker 36248.64s - 6254.4s
Yeah. But he pounces on her and, like, is like groping her and stuff like that. I think you're thinking of something else. Am I? Yeah. Oh.
Speaker 46254.62s - 6254.88s
Yeah.
Speaker 36256.34s - 6257.86s
Um, what else do you got here?
Speaker 46258.32s - 6271.32s
Oh, I love the, uh, I get caught digging for money and slowing down because Susan PERSON's seeing the greet on her face. Just so cinematic. She's like, fine, you want money? I can't give it up. I can't. It's mine.
Speaker 06271.62s - 6274.14s
You know, that internal struggle for Kord PERSON. Yeah.
Speaker 46274.22s - 6278.72s
Just goes to show you just like how fucking disgusting she is as a human being.
Speaker 06278.72s - 6283.6s
You said it earlier a couple notes ago about just like it's all about the money with her.
Speaker 46283.82s - 6287.66s
Yeah. Like she can't even like throw one gold coin in her niece here to make a point.
Speaker 36287.78s - 6288.08s
Yeah.
Speaker 46288.32s - 6289.3s
She couldn't even do that.
Speaker 36289.42s - 6302.48s
Yeah. Yeah. And then my last note for this, the usage of her father to manipulate her is so fucking gross. I think it happened once before, but it's just nasty to think about.Yeah. It's just, you know, like, oh, yeah.
Speaker 26302.58s - 6305.86s
Just throwing like, you know, oh, your father would disapprove of you like going back. It's just, that's like, I mean, yeah. Just throwing like, you know, oh, your father would would disapprove of you, like going back.
Speaker 06305.98s - 6316.68s
It's just that's like, I mean, manipulation. There's a lot of manipulation involved here. But that, like, again, you've already mentioned it too. Like, this should be a family member. That should be someone that, like, loves and protects them.
Speaker 46316.8s - 6325.88s
Yeah, exactly. And it's, we did not rehearse that. And she's ultimately not. She's ultimately manipulating her. Yeah. Towards this. And it's for her gain. Yeah.
Speaker 36325.88s - 6327.84s
It's not like Susan PERSON's getting all of the money.
Speaker 46328.04s - 6328.32s
No.
Speaker 36328.52s - 6329.5s
And court is.
Speaker 46329.68s - 6329.92s
Yeah.
Speaker 36330.28s - 6335.2s
I mean, Susan PERSON will end up being in the mayor. There's probably plenty of wealth of circumstance.
Speaker 46335.4s - 6344.18s
It goes with that. But ultimately, the payout money is all going to be Cordelia PERSON. Yeah. And Cordelia PERSON is saying that it's her house and the land will be hers and everything like that.
Speaker 36344.24s - 6347.56s
Yeah. It just kind of shows you Susan PERSON's just a means to an end.
Speaker 46347.88s - 6349.26s
Yeah, which is terrible.
Speaker 36349.44s - 6349.66s
Oh.
Speaker 46350.08s - 6351.08s
So we got one more subchapter.
Speaker 36351.28s - 6353.78s
We're running lower on time than I thought we might.
Speaker 46354.02s - 6356.52s
But let's go ahead and jump into subchapter three.
Speaker 36356.72s - 6362.68s
So Susanna or Susan, Susanna, Susan looked back and saw that she had rid nearly a mile and slowed down.
Speaker 26363.06s - 6436.6s
She let out of her breath for the first time and noticed the day's beauty. Goals circling the hazy air off the west, high grass all around, flowers in every shade and every shaded cranny. Her emotions subsided a bit and she spoke the name Will Dearborn PERSON and shivered at the speaking of his name, even though there was no one to hear her but pylon. She then kisses her wrist where the blood beat the closest to the surface. It was a surprise to her because she didn't expect to do it. She then spat. Will had been responsible for all too much upset in her life these last three weeks. Him and his unsettling blue eyes and his judgmental attitude. She had thought back to his words at the welcome dinner and her blood sang with anger and shame. How dare he presume to judge her? One who grew up in luxury with servants to attend to his every whim. So much gold that he likely didn't even need it because they would be given things, all the things he needed. How would a boy like that know about the hard choices she had to make? Or how could he understand that she didn't make those decisions at all, but had been carried to them like a kitten by the scruff of the neck? But still he would not leave her mind.In fact, she had been, he had been the unseen third in the fight with Cordelia PERSON this morning. And she knew another thing that would upset at Cordono and Will Dareborn PERSON had not forgotten her either.
Speaker 36437.6s - 6439.44s
So, that is actually it for the subchapter.
Speaker 56439.58s - 6440.72s
Do you have some notes to talk about.
Speaker 36440.9s - 6449.26s
But yeah, that's, I don't know. So it does at least show uh not only is she still thinking to him but i do i'm actually glad there's still some anger there you know because
Speaker 46449.26s - 6463.5s
ultimately again she there's nothing that she just outlined there that she's not right about he has no fucking clue about any of this no like you know especially where he's come from it's the same thing for like us we don't know anything about like third world countries to go there and
Speaker 56463.5s - 6505.86s
judge them for what they're how they're surviving and stuff like that it would be the same thing here yeah he doesn't know what she's going through what what her life would be if she didn't make this decision he has no idea yeah he's just got that high society look down his nose at her kind of thing yeah mentality yeah um and then david said uh this is why i can't stand her a lot much more than i can't stand the witch. At least Ria owns it. Yeah. So yeah, that's, and that's true. Like, there is an element to that where I've kind of wondered if we were actually to go through and debate Cordelia PERSON versus Ria. I know that was 20, I know that was 2019 that we had that vote. But I do kind of wonder if Cordelia, if you really thought about it, I think Cordelia could win that vote.
Speaker 06506.16s - 6506.68s
I really do.
Speaker 36506.68s - 6518.58s
If you sat down and we had like a kind of like a closing argument kind of thing like we have on the other show where you take Cordelia and I take Ria PERSON, I'd be confident that I'd put up a good fight, but I don't know if I'd win.
Speaker 46518.78s - 6519.04s
Yeah.
Speaker 36519.18s - 6519.78s
I don't know.
Speaker 06520.12s - 6523.76s
Like a lot of people hate Ria PERSON because of, you know, what she does later.
Speaker 46524.28s - 6526.26s
I know we're not talking spoilers and stuff like that.
Speaker 36526.26s - 6527.72s
Even the inspections, pretty bad.
Speaker 06527.72s - 6528.86s
Even the inspection's pretty bad.
Speaker 36529.34s - 6535.26s
But Cordelia right here in just a few, like you said, I wasn't here for those other ones.
Speaker 06535.34s - 6538.74s
But even just a few times that we've seen her, none of them have been good.
Speaker 36538.82s - 6539.08s
No.
Speaker 06539.28s - 6540.06s
Nothing good.
Speaker 36540.14s - 6542.76s
It seems like she gets worse every time she shows up.
Speaker 46543.5s - 6548.68s
And then David said Frank reads this part and some of Susan's part so well for a dude who's not a 16-year-old girl.
Speaker 36548.86s - 6549.18s
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 46549.34s - 6567.46s
All hail Frank Mueller PERSON. Oh, yeah. He's God PERSON. He's, yeah. He was, you know, the best. He was the best. But absolute wonderful narrator. And he does so great at voicing. So good. Like these different characters of different worlds, different accents, and they all just seem so distinct.
Speaker 06567.58s - 6583.68s
There's never a time where you're like, well, I don't know. Sometimes you get, I mean, I haven't even think you get it that much nowadays, but back in the old days and audiobooks were far more niche, like niche things, like you would just get people that are very dry and monotile, like whatever, but nowadays, like, they do a really good job with them.
Speaker 46583.88s - 6598.52s
And there's never a time where you're like, well, I don't know what's going on here. I'm kind of getting confused. Like, no, they got world-class people doing this stuff. They've gotten to the point where it's not just someone who can read for 13 hours at a time. They got performers. Yeah.
Speaker 36598.68s - 6606.54s
Like, you look at it, Will Patton PERSON's an actor. Yeah. You know, Stephen Weber PERSON's an actor. What's funny is a lot of these. Those are two of my favorites. Yeah, a few. There's a lot of these. Outside of Dark Tower, of course actor. What's funny is a lot of these... Those are two of my favorites. Yeah, a few...There's a lot of these.
Speaker 46606.64s - 6608.08s
Outside of Dark Tower WORK_OF_ART, of course.
Speaker 36608.2s - 6609.86s
As I've looked into a lot of these narrators,
Speaker 46610.06s - 6627.64s
as I've... Because I'll read, listen to a book, and I'll just go look them up just for the fuck of it. It's crazy how many of them actually are or were actors previous to being there. Yeah.So it's true. You put on these performances, and they're phenomenal because they're not only doing it as one character, which is a typical actor's job, is to play one character.
Speaker 36627.92s - 6635.66s
They're playing the entire book. Yeah. It's like those things you see with, like, the Simpsons cast where they're like on like a Conan O'Brien PERSON show or something.
Speaker 46636.38s - 6641.96s
And he just flips through like multiple voices. And it's just watching it. It's like, alien. It's like, that shouldn't be real.
Speaker 36641.96s - 6646.14s
You see like their mouth changed just a little bit about but that it's a completely different voice coming out.
Speaker 46646.22s - 6646.94s
It's unreal.
Speaker 36647.22s - 6659.8s
Yeah. Let's see. And then David PERSON said he's narrating the clearing at the end of the path now, indeed. I honestly, I forgot. I'm sorry. No, it's, I mean, it's, yeah, he's still with us through these, through these performances.
Speaker 46660.2s - 6661.02s
He will live up forever.
Speaker 36661.46s - 6674.16s
And in my note here's, my notes here, so her anger over Roland's words have not really died down in the three weeks. Yeah. Which good. I'm actually, again, as a reader, I'm glad because those were pretty nasty things for him to say.
Speaker 46674.32s - 6700.14s
So if she had just gotten over it, like that would have been a little bit like, ah. Oh, come on. I don't know, man. That doesn't seem like she should have gotten over that. But also at the same time, hearing the sound of his name on her lips, makes her shiver and then kiss her lips and everything like that. But then right after that, we see it swing back to anger. She swears and spitzing, remembering what he said to her at the dance, like cursing his name. She's like, Will it airport? Fuck you! Yeah. She swings
Speaker 26700.14s - 6704.28s
so fast. There's a duality. Which is a teenage girl.
Speaker 46704.52s - 6711.18s
I mean, let's be honest. I mean, that's not just, let's be honest. That's every teenager, not just girls. Men do the same thing.
Speaker 36711.3s - 6735.1s
That's what you're in for here pretty soon, sir. Dude, don't say that. Oh, don't you say that. And then David said, Will Patton PERSON is great. But only if you're wearing headphones, that dude does not raise his voice. And that's true. Can he raise his voice? I wonder if that's even a thing. If it's possible.Yeah. Even as I'm like flashing through some of the movies I've seen him in, I don't think I've ever heard him with like an elevated voice.
Speaker 46735.1s - 6736.82s
He's a calm dude. All right.
Speaker 36736.96s - 6752.34s
He plays a chill guy. Yeah. You got two more notes. Yeah. My notes here. So it's so easy to see Rollins PERSON perspective. It's so easy to see Rollins PERSON perspective for me.'s so easy to see Rollins' perspective for me. But then you get to this part, and it makes you really feel for Susan PERSON a lot more and the predicament that she's been put in.
Speaker 46752.48s - 6753.9s
At least for me, like, right?
Speaker 06754.02s - 6757.08s
When I'm reading this, I'm not far from Roland PERSON's age. I'm a boy.
Speaker 46757.28s - 6768.62s
So it would have been easier for me to put myself in his place. But King PERSON does a great job here to where it kind of like, you know, grabs the hook and pulls you in the other direction where it's like, hey, pulls the, the blinders you have on
Speaker 36768.62s - 6785.72s
and makes you open up to see Susan PERSON's full scenario here, the situation that she's in with her Aunt Cord PERSON. Yeah. Basically, like, your next note, read your next note. Yeah, also Aunt Cord PERSON is fucking terrible, as you can infer that she is the adult cat that is taking Kitten Susan PERSON by the scruff.
Speaker 46785.94s - 6789.88s
Like that's just terrible that an adult and we've seen this in real life.
Speaker 36790.02s - 6806.54s
Yeah. Where an adult influences a child into being horrible. Yeah. Like it's horrible. I mean, we've seen this all throughout history where people take children and brainwash them effectively. Yeah. And everything. And there's monsters like that. Aunt Cord's one of them. Yeah. You can. And there's monsters like that. Aunt Cord's one of them.
Speaker 46806.72s - 6806.76s
Yeah.
Speaker 36809.82s - 6826.64s
You can see her manipulating a child for her personal gain. Yeah. And this is her niece. This is someone, this is family. This is blood. Yeah.I could never imagine this doing this. And I have three nieces just on my side of the family, not counting the entire huge family that's my wife's side of the family. I couldn't imagine that doing that to any of them. Yeah.
Speaker 46829.54s - 6831.24s
Convincing them at 16 to become someone's gilly? Like, oh my God.
Speaker 36831.56s - 6833.62s
Yeah. Yeah, it's, that's wild.
Speaker 46834.86s - 6835.12s
Mind boggling, right?
Speaker 36835.46s - 6836.06s
Yeah.
Speaker 46839.96s - 6840.04s
But that is it for this episode that wraps us on the discussion.
Speaker 36841.7s - 6857.6s
There is no spoiler section, like I mentioned. This stuff's all very self-contained. There's not a whole lot to talk about, you know, and I'm not going to say that's going to continue through all the flashbacks. There will be times I'm thinking we're going to get spoilers discussions. But there hasn't been anything here recent. It kind of reminds me like the Blaine the Mono WORK_OF_ART section.
Speaker 06862.34s - 6869.3s
I don't think we had any spoiler sections there either because it's like what we're reading is so fucking self-contained and good. There's really not a whole lot else to connect to the rest of the series in the same way that some other stuff is. So let's go ahead and hit the outro stuff real quick.
Speaker 36870.06s - 6887.8s
